Hamato kids’ dnd characters
Tumblr media
PCs (DM (not pictures) and then the characters are in order from left to right) oh, and everyone is starting at lvl 3
Mikey: the DM and the one who listened to DnD podcasts and live plays (mostly NADDPOD and Dimension 20 cuz those are my faves) and became obsessed. He got Leo (and eventually everyone else) hooked too while Leo was on bed rest. It was a huge help for everyone’s mental health and trauma processing and shit. A dm on the level of Brennan Lee Mulligan and Matt Mercer
April:
Name: Chrutun Redleaf AKA: Crouton
Pronouns: They/them Gender: Non-binary
Heritage (aka race): Hobgoblin of the Autumn Court
Class: Wild Magic Barbarian
Background: An emissary from the Autumn Court who gets thrown in jail for “impersonating” a visiting royal official. They eventually had to break out in hopes they can get to the Feywild Portal before it closes until next spring. (It’s an equinox based ley line where they’re at)
-Raph-
Name: Catynth “Caty” La Venta
Pronouns: she/der (der/dey) Gender: Transwoman
Heritage: Kobold (black dragon lineage)
Class: Drakewarden Ranger (Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons is where you can find this subclass)
Companion: Wumpus- a couatl wyrmling (one of the few surviving. A sacred animal and a huge honor to be chosen to protect them)
Background: A Relic Collector. She’s a temple guardian from the Eastern Rains. Dey and her traveling party are traveling in search of lost relics stolen from other islands and villages near them by colonizers, raiders, and “archeologists” (*cough cough* Indiana Jones *cough*) She’s also responsible for a recent religious artifact that surprised everyone by hatching. Turns out it wasn’t an old amber carving
-Leon-
Name: Carrion “Cari” Southaven
Pronouns: He/They (?) Gender: Genderqueer
Heritage: Orc Tiefling
Class: Circle of Wildfire Druid
Familiar: Ten (a Marten fire spirit)
Background: an orphan who grew up on the streets with his twin Creed. He currently works as a firefighter who spends summers in Easterly (the farming District) Gave their family chapter the nickname “the Leftovers gang”
-Donnie-
Name: Creed
Pronouns: He/They (?) Gender: non-binary
Heritage: Orc Tiefling
Class: Battlesmith Artificer
Steel Defender: Shelldon: a dragon turtle with various modes (flying, swimming, land transports and an anthropomorphic version for more battle prowess) once actually shelldon finds out, he demands to get to play himself. Which everyone was quick to let happen (they missed his sassy ass)
Background: Cari’s twin. Grew up on the streets and they were taken in by a mob family. They eventually became the lead arms and gadgets maker, and are now a high ranking family member. They do a lot with the financial director while Cari works with the Head of Rescue Operations (named Maeve and Nalla respectively). The family/syndicate has become an anarcho-socialist rebellion working to tear down the oppressive militant rule of their oppressors
They twins pronouns are a little up in the air at the moment, so I’ll give an update if it changes
I might eventually give Cass and CJ (and maybe the dads) characters too. And I may end up with a completely fleshed out map and world for the characters to play in. Depends on how deep the hyperfixation takes me lmao

Cinematography by: Seamus McGarvey, ASC, BSC The Greatest Showman (2017) Directed by Michael Gracey Aspect Ratio: 2.39 : 1
“Michael [Gracey] already had a very strong visual notion of the film, as he had been working on it for such a long time. He had created a range of digital storyboards and previzualised scenes to sell the idea to the studio. These were quite elaborate and took the visual look away from a photorealistic approach and more into the realms of theatricality, artifice and the magical imagination. They had a sort of handmade quality – the live action was to be blended with old-school, painterly backdrops, and other elements such as miniatures of the Manhattan cityscape.
We didn’t look at any other films about Barnum and his life. Rather we talked about developing a Technicolor-based look to support the artifice. We considered the effect of the two- and three-strip Technicolor process on colour in movies such as An American In Paris (1951, dir. Vincente Minnelli, DP Alfred Gilks), Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954, dir. Stanley Donen, DP George J. Folsey) and The Robe (1953, dir. Henry Koster, DP Leon Shamroy). The idea was to take the real and transform it into this vivid, imaginative, magical Technicolor realm.” — Seamus McGarvey, British Cinematographer

A man crosses the desert that separates his ranch from the town of Bitter Creek on horseback. He is going to visit Sheriff Jake, a friend from his youth, when both worked as hired gunmen. The action takes place in 1910, and the two men are in their fifties. Silva (Pedro Pascal) is of Mexican origin, a solid guy, emotional, elusive, a cheat, if necessary, warm. It's been twenty-five years since he last saw Sheriff Jake (Ethan Hawke), blond, strict, cold, inscrutable, almost the opposite to Silva. That night, at the Sheriff's house, they eat a meat stew Jake has cooked, they drink, and they make love, all of it in abundance. The next morning, Silva wants the party to continue, but he finds a stony Jake, who is nothing like the man from the night before. (This was the first thing I wrote, the sequences that follow that orgiastic night in which both characters confront their past and their present in totally different ways.)
spoilers ahead!
Tumblr media
This is the heart of the story: the argument while they get dressed the following morning. In this argument, the ulterior motives are revealed(as well as the passion that they lived when they were younger, and that is still beating within them, even though Jake doesn't want to admit it once they are sober). Jake has to go after a murderer who, according to an eyewitness, was Silva's son. And Silva has to intercede for him, trying to convince Jake that his son is innocent and that he should stop searching for him. All this, the sheriff’s duty as opposed to a father’s grief, mixed with reproaches and declarations of love from two lovers who haven’t seen each other in twenty-five years and who live their lives at opposite ends of the desert. These are the ten central minutes of the film, the first I wrote. I still didn’t know what the story would be, or if there would even be a story, but my first intention was to give voice to these two middle-aged, queer men who traditionally have remained silent in a genre like the western. I was attracted by the idea of breaking that silence. Brokeback Mountain by Ang Lee is the closest Hollywood has come to telling a story about two men who love each other and talk about it, but the lovers in Ang Lee’s film are shepherds, so I don’t include the film in the western genre.
There are westerns with gay characters, like Warlock by Edward Dmytryk. The script abounds in data about the passionate relationship between its two protagonists, Anthony Quinn and Henry Fonda, but no one talks about it even though their relationship is one of the axes of the film. This turns Dmytryk’s film into a strange western or one with a badly written script. The film is only understood if both of them are lovers, but that word is never mentioned.
Although I’m a great admirer of the genre, I never thought that I’d end up making a western. I greatly enjoyed this shoot, despite the unbearable temperatures of the hottest summer in our history. We filmed in a town built in Almeria for Sergio Leone as a set for his legendary dollar trilogy, with Clint Eastwood. (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly; For a Few Dollars More and A Fistful of Dollars). The passing of time, fifty years of it, has given authenticity to the place, today being dusty and old. The typical artifice of what had been a film set fifty years ago, built back then only weeks before shooting, had now disappeared.
It was also a thrilling experience to work with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, both extraordinary in their respective roles.
Tumblr media
As for the décor, I have respected the rules of the genre without falling into any anachronistic temptation, except for the song at the beginning, with the voice of Caetano Veloso and the angelical face of Manu Ríos, which gives the film its title.
For the choice of paintings on the walls of the two most important sets, the interior of the sheriff’s house and the ranch where Silva lives, I have turned to artists of the time. In Sheriff Jake’s house there are several paintings by Maynard Dixon, one of the first artists, if not the first, to paint landscapes from the American West, with native Indians and cowboys. For me it has all been a discovery, his work possesses a coloring untypical of the time that brings it close to pop and at times to impressionism. There is also a portrait of the artist Lily Langtry, very famous at the start of the century, who actually made a silent film and whom Ava Gardner plays in The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean along with Paul Newman. The other great artist who appears on the walls of the ranch is Georgia O’Keefe, the Mexican landscape that hangs over Silva’s bed.
Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello was in charge of the entire wardrobe. We took our inspiration not so much from the reality of the time but from cinema, how actors were dressed in westerns between 1900 and 1915. If anyone wonders about Pedro Pascal wearing a green jacket, I recommend watching Bend of the River by Anthony Mann, where James Stewart wears an identical green jacket. And I have a lot of respect for Anthony Mann and James Stewart.
We are also inspired by Veracruz (Robert Aldrich), specifically for the outfit worn by Silva's murderous son Joe. It is inspired by Burt Lancaster, all black.
And Sheriff Jake, he's in a suit, with a vest and bola tie, like almost all the sheriffs in the Westerns I have watched. Kirk Douglas is one of the models, whether playing a sheriff or a card player, Gun Fight at the OK Corral or in Last Train from Gun Hill, both by John Sturges. I have re-watched many westerns so as not to fall into anachronisms and the truth is that the male wardrobe has changed very little, the sheriff is always the most elegant, usually with a suit, waistcoat (the fabric of the waistcoat was the only thing that allowed you some fantasy, with shiny damasks), shirt and around the neck a bola tie.
The rest of the male characters always wear a scarf around their necks, in different colours and patterns, a checked shirt and a waistcoat. The dresses of the Mexican prostitutes are inspired by El Dorado (Howard Hawks). I have done my research with a multitude of westerns, especially Hawks, John Ford, John Sturges, Raoul Walsh, Anthony Mann, Peckinpah, Robert Aldrich, etc.
As for the narrative in general and the music, I have followed the classical canon. Despite the fact that in Spain we have a great tradition of spaghetti westerns, more than a hundred were filmed in the 60s and 70s. I have not been inspired by any of them and the composer Alberto Iglesias has avoided Ennio Morricone, who would have been the easiest reference.

IT IS TIME...
for the The Adventure Zone: Balance sexyperson poll
I've done the bracket a lil different than other polls
Tumblr media
Rather than randomizing all the characters available against eachother, I have hand selected the 8 characters I felt have the best chances and placed them so that the first round will be going against them to make everything a little more fair so that smaller NPCs without as much love won't go down round one against a player character or something!
I have also separated the brackets by gender, not for weird reasons, also just for fairness so if, say, Taako is up against Lucretia, the poll isn't thrown off by the majority of votes coming from people who are only attracted to women or vice versa.
ROUND ONE:
Johann VS Edward (Winner VS Taako)
Barry Bluejeans VS Avi (Winner VS Magnus)
Davenport VS Leon the Artificer (Winner VS Merle)
Magic Brian VS John (Winner VS Kravitz)
Lydia VS Istus (Winner VS Killian)
Julia Burnsides VS Sloane (Winner VS Lucretia)
Carey Fangbattle VS Hurley (Winner VS Lup)
Klarg VS No-3113 (Noelle) (Winner VS Garfield)

A large portion of Vonnegut’s oeuvre has been concerned with metafictional issues that arise from the creator role of the author. Vonnegut constantly makes his readers aware of his position as author and the constructor of the tale he tells. Sometimes he does this by making reference to his own writing. At others, he uses gimmicks such as the starring of names of characters who are shortly to die, as he does in Galápagos. Breakfast of Champions features ‘Vonnegut’ sitting in a bar surrounded by and manipulating his own characters, even revealing himself to Kilgore and telling him outright that he is a creation in Vonnegut’s fiction. Vonnegut’s unique mixture of autobiographical details—or rather the acknowledgment of his autobiographical detail—with his fiction, and his insistence on using an ambiguous ‘I’ persona in most of his novels, has meant for both him and his readers that they continually confront the artifice—and reality—of fictional creations.
Throughout Galápagos, Vonnegut deliberately undermines human acts of creation, art among them. When, for instance, Vonnegut writes that science fiction is just another ‘arbitrary game’ that the human brain plays, he impugns both his profession and his novel. Moreover, the symbol of human art in the novel, the handheld computer Mandarax which acts as a repository for all the literary quotations thought worth saving for posterity, can offer only ineptitudes which are of no practical value at all. Vonnegut’s last word on it is emphatic: he has a great white shark eat it. Such undermining isn’t unique to this novel, but he goes one step further in Galápagos when Leon reveals that he has ‘written these words in air—with the tip of the index finger of my left hand, which is also air’. The reader already knows that human beings of the future are unlikely readers; not only do they spend most of their lives in water, but they also no longer have the big brains or the dexterous fingers needed for reading.
So who is Leon writing for? If he is writing on air with air, his story—and Vonnegut’s—will, quite literally, disappear into thin air, a conceit which Bo Pettersson has rightfully described as Vonnegut letting ‘man, in his regained innocence, forego much of what makes him unique.... The end of evil must entail the end of human creativity’.
So there is a suggestion of another kind of apocalypse here: that of the worlds that the written word creates. It may be that Vonnegut means to imply that art, like everything, is ephemeral, or even that it is itself in the process of evolving into a new form. Certainly, Vonnegut’s distinctive style—brief paragraphs, doodles, and catch-phrases such as ‘And so it goes’—could be interpreted as an evolution in novel form. But what seems more likely, given the eschatological and evolutionary timbre of Galápagos, is that he intends to place human art in its proper anthropological and apocalyptic context.
Todd F. Davis argues that ‘At no time does Vonnegut become comfortable with the notion that humanity represents the highest achievement of some mythical creator’. In the evolutionary and anthropological sense, art is no more or less permanent than the species which makes it. Leon shrugs off the impermanence of his words, saying, ‘my words will be as enduring as anything my father wrote, or Shakespeare wrote, or Beethoven wrote, or Darwin wrote. It turns out that they all wrote with air on air’. Art merely creates another ‘comforting lie’ that humans can tell to make their world a better place in which to live.
But as a postmodernist, Vonnegut is playfully engaging in a paradox here. While Leon’s work will disappear within the fictional confines of Galápagos, it lives on through Vonnegut’s work in the real world. Moreover, it is our big brains that allow us to read and consider Vonnegut’s point about the uselessness of big brains. Because of this paradox, Peter Freese describes Galápagos as ‘a hoax, a verbal game built upon the premise of its very impossibility’. Great art will endure as long as humans do, Leon says. Its impermanence matters little if the ‘lie’ it creates makes our lives better while we are here.

Trick or Treat? 🦇
A delayed treat for you! The AOM crew as Baldur's Gate 3 classes:
Sid: Cleric of Ilmater, realistically Life Domain but he wishes he was Trickery Domain and could pass without trace forever
Horatio: Circle of Spores druid. Decay is an extant form of life :)
Avis: Arcane trickster rogue. She's just built different
Sorian: should be an artificer but bg3 does not have this so Way of the Open Hand monk, because he's nonthreatening and everything is fine
Leon: Wizard. He cannot be anything but wizard. Conjuration or Evocation School probably. He carries Milward Fonk as a warning but only fights with spells.
Edith: Berserker barbarian. If she doesn't have a battleaxe, she definitely fights with Milward Fonk, who can be a greatsword in-setting, why not.
Emma: Warlock who draws her power from her book club (the fiend).
Donovan: Gloom stalker ranger whose favored "enemy" is Sid.
Allison: Beast master ranger whose favored enemy is broken appliances.
Celia: College of Lore bard. I never envisioned her being particularly musical - in bg3 she'd either have a flute or a violin, but I love the idea that she actually carries a recorder or a kazoo or a boomwhacker and everyone's like "look at this dumbass" and then she absolutely shreds and they regret everything. Or possibly she just sings everything.

TELL ME ABT UR OC BOY PLEASE
OH HI THERE BESTIE
I assume you mean the little ginger gremlin I'm always talking about so here it goes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two different picrews because I don't have any art of his handy
Okay so for starters he was my friend's DnD character that I kidnapped and made my best boyo, my silly rabbit, my poor little meow meow
His full name is Hernet Lysander Winz of the Fire Clan, he's a wizer (a homebrew race from my friend's DnD setting) and he's a menace to society at large. When he was a toddler his mom got arrested and sentenced to death for high treason and his father was either banished or died, he doesn't know and doesn't care. He was raised by his father's family, alongside his twin cousins, Leon and Leona.
His people are basically a xenophobic cult so Hernie grew up hating everything and everyone who isn't a wizer, until he got banished and actually saw how the world works, befriended people and even fell in love with a half elf, the race he hated the most as a kid.
See, he's a nerd, a wizard, an artificer and an inventor, he's basically what would happen if Edward Elric and Natsu Dragneel had a child together. He's scary powerful, touch starved, loyal to a fault, has a hair-trigger temper and has the fashion sense of a colorblind 12yo
Also he's very short for human standards (1,58m) but he's outrageously tall compared to other wizers, that range between 1,30 and 1,50
He's the kind of bisexual who was fully convinced he was gay until he fell in love with a girl. And then he was suffering because he thought he wasn't really bi since he was also having the hots and the feels for another friend of theirs, until he 1) found out that she was also in love with said friend and 2) was introduced to the concept of polyamory
Also wizers are extremely attuned to their native elements and his is fire, so his fire magic is way above the regular standard of power and he has the side effect of always being very warm, so his gf usually uses him as a heat pack
And his bf is the party's doctor so he's the one picking Hernet up by the scruff like a naughty kitten at 3am and putting him in bed whether he wants it or not
He's addicted to coffee, to energy drinks and to shiny new things he can poke and prod
Also he literally invented wifi in his world so there's that
And he's very, very, VERY squishable if you ask his partners
