rodimags/rodimims (specifically idw is what i'm talking abt here) is such a good pairing because one the dynamic they have but also two their narratives are like. the same. they’re foils both individually and character arc wise.

like, minimus living in his brother’s shadow and rodimus in optimus’s. mims getting a new body/identity and rodimus first putting on a facade and then later changing his paint job. minimus and rodimus having trouble forming meaningful relationships because they both have to be someone they aren’t (ultra magnus and optimus, respectively).

roddy saying he didn’t want to be a prime, he wanted to be optimus prime. mims always trying to live up to first his brother’s accomplishments and then ultra magnus’s.

they also have their differences (obviously), but like any good foil their differences are anti parallels.

mims needing orders and rules to ground himself. rodimus feeling restricted by them. mims going from a nobody to a legend because of the armor, and rodimus being ignored and judged after getting the matrix. mims (as magnus primarily, but also just in general) always being second but still respected, vs rodimus being first (primehood) but disgraced.

both of them leaving cybertron together for the same reason: they can’t handle the burden their predecessors have given them. ultra magnus and optimus prime being revered figures, but minimus ambus and rodimus (no longer a prime) being nobodies, if not worse.

the personality differences and their general dynamic are already great and made me ship them, but the foils and parallels are what make them a compelling duo in all senses.

(also this post is abt idw but they're really good in everything else imo. like g1 is a chiller show but they still have such a good relationship/dynamic and they still read like foils, it's just a little more surface level bc y'know kids cartoon. )

First off, love your blog. Always well thought out backed with canon evidence.

You look at things from the big picture, and take context into consideration, something I noticed many El/riels do not.

Aside from trying to force the Koschei plot line on Az (a plot that ties to Lucien) you ever notice that the only theories they provide are centered around ways Az and Elain will end up together? They legit dismiss multiple plots and arcs in favor of Elriel. I never see them provide actual storylines that moves the series forward. Plots that account for the rest of the characters in ways that it does not diminish them (Making Lucien, Mor and Gwyn villains ) yet dismissing the actual villains, uniting the courts, and progressing the story in a positive way that keeps the IC in tact and drama free.

What I'm taking from their theories is an elriel book is going to revolve around conflict among the IC when the purpose of the series, especially given the crossover is to UNITE and push characters to be the best versions of themselves with the person they are meant to be with. Elain and Az would break bonds, political alliances and it would get messy. It already is messy and they have not even kissed. Sorry, but that is not how SJM writes. Her plot twists and conflicts are centered around actual villians, which we know are neither Lucien or Gwyn. Sure, in other books by other authors it would work, but that is not the case here. If as a reader you enjoy that type of drama and a book centered around how a couple overcome their family and friends rejection and takes up most of the conflict in the book, there are plenty of books with that trope.

With all that is going on, Beron, Koschei the queens, uniting the continent, the crossover, I can't imagine SJM would have time to write one book that doesn't make Elriel look selfish when there is an actual real problems to deal with (The meme of Kourtney Kardashian telling Kim " people are dying" comes to mind here lol)

Imagine Rhys and the IC having to deal with Az and Elain sneaking around and breaking alliances, please lol. That is not the direction SJM takes in her series. This trope for characters like Az and Elain does not move the overall arc forward, it sets the story back and makes them look like assholes TBH. IMO Elriel sunk in that bonus and for good reason.

Lucien and Elain arc are intertwined to move the series forward.

And then you have Az and Gwyn, their union would be welcomed and if Gwyn is Az's mate, his found family would be nothing but happy for him, we'd see Azriel heal in a positive way, the way we did with Chaol. AN Az and gwyn union cements the bonds with the IC and Valkyrie, and allies, it does not break any bonds unlike Elriel.

Sorry, but the way I see it they can’t fit elriel into the entire arc, and their theories never tie into the actual storyline and that is why Elriel was never meant as endgame when you look at the series and crossover holistically, it's pretty obvious.

To start with Gwynriel, it is set up to be such a natural pairing when you consider their friends.

Cassian and Az are best friends / brothers because of found family.

Nesta and Gwyn are best friends / sisters because of found family.

While Elain is Nesta's blood sister, they aren't sisters in the way that sisters can sometimes be best friends. They care for one another, they protect one another, but I wouldn't say they have the healthiest dynamic. Nesta has always struggled to allow Elain to be independent especially when it involves things Nesta considers too dangerous and I don't think Elain feels truly comfortable letting her hair down around Nesta. I think their relationship will improve by the end of the series but I still don't think they'll be close in the way Nesta / Gwyn / Emerie are close.

So this natural relationship between Nesta and Gwyn, where Nesta is able to be the new version of her makes perfect sense if Gwyn were to end up with Az. Mates spending time together while also spending time with their found family / best friends. Actually, I have friends like this. The two girls have been best friends since they were younger and they married two guys that have also been best friends since when they were younger and to this day they take vacations together, sleep over at one another's house after parties, etc.

I don't think it hits the same when it's sisters marrying best friends when the sisters have a bit of a complicated relationship. I don't think Feyre / Nesta / Rhys / Cassian hanging out would feel quite as fun as Gwyn / Nesta / Az / Cassian hanging out.

As for future plots, I know that shipping E/riel means someone is going to create scenarios for them. E/riel defeating Koschei, E/riel making diplomatic visits together (which doesn't even make sense when we're specifically told Az likes to work from the shadows and he's not social). But until SJM writes the book we can't guarantee that won't happen. What confuses me though is how they create the exact plots that SJM seems to be hinting at for Elucien. How can someone ignore that SJM tells us it's LUCIEN who had been to Koschei's lake? That LUCIEN was setting his sights on his target. That Nesta wonders if ELAIN would not only visit the continent with tulips but the one to the South of that? That LUCIEN is permanently stationed in Spring and is their emissary to the Human Lands, that LUCIEN is the heir to Day, and that Nesta tells us Spring had been Made for someone like ELAIN, that she'd tell ELAIN to go if she could, that ELAIN needs Sunshine, that ELAIN is struggling with her lost humanity. Every single thing associated with Lucien SJM has also tied Elain to. But E/riels ignore every mention of Lucien in these places and insert Az instead. How can you just erase the set up for Lucien's story like that?

And I did say this in a recent post but to your point of forbidden love, first off, how does that even work logistically? Az doesn't have his own place. Elain doesn't have her own place. Are they really meeting in dark alleyways and seedy taverns? There is no where they can go in Velaris where someone isn't going to see something and report it back to the High Lord and High Lady.

Second, does anyone honestly believe the union of Az and Elain is so special that it needs to be forbidden love?

This isn't a mafia romance where they're worried about their families trying to take the other one out.

There are no real stakes to their relationship.

Seriously, no one really cares if Az and Elain want to be together.

If Elain opened her mouth and said a few words to Lucien, "Lucien, I want to be with Az" he would say, "OK". He left her because he knew she was still in love with Graysen, he obviously doesn't feel entitled to her just because he's her mate. Just like Rhys allowed his mate to nearly marry another man, just like Cassian allowed his mate to sleep with many other males, Lucien is not going to stand in the way of Elain's decision to be with someone else.

Rhys laid down his threat but say Az disobeys, what does anyone honestly think Rhys would do? Kick him out of the IC? Torture him?

The ONLY reason Rhys pulled rank is because he knew Az was being an idiot and he didn't have real feelings for Elain. Rhys ONLY pulled rank because he knew Az wasn't over Mor and Az really was planning on hooking up with Elain for "just one taste" and Az did nothing to convince him otherwise. That's Rhys's little sister, it's admirable that he was looking out for her when he knew his brother was being a hothead. And while I'm sure Rhys did consider what consequences could come from Az's idiocy (he's a smart character, of course he looks at all sides), we all know Lucien would have never done anything to jeopardize the peace they were all trying to attain. He was the one warning them to treat Tamlin better because he knew they'd need Tamlin's forces before all was said and done.

So yeah, the whole idea of Az and Elain sneaking around creates this shady love that they can't share with the family and friends who love them and just want them to be happy. It turns them into selfish characters who don't care about doing things the right way, who don't care about having actual conversations like grown ups do.

Forbidden love is a thing because even if the two characters sat down and had a rational and reasonable conversation with their parents / bosses / brother, etc their love would still be forbidden.

If Az and Elain sat down and said to Lucien and Rhys, "we're in love and we're sorry we hurt you", NO ONE would stand in their way and that means their love is not forbidden.

off jumpol going abroad & flirting with all the women?? yup, it happened! this is basically khai from tol if he stayed an asshole lol. this is the first straight role from off I ever watched & I love por so much bc his facial expressions, especially with glasses, are literally the cutest ever! moreover, even though the show wasn't executed the best, the concept is very daring & interesting for the time and it didn't deserve to flop like it did at all. I honestly would recommend it :)

so I'm gonna be honest, the more time passes since 10yt the more I realize it wasn't that incredible of a show, even though it's definitely a good show still. and off in it was amazing even though he was pretty withdrawn, but both of his storylines, one involving the mafia & the other involving his grandma with dementia which is a topic that touched me particularly, were amazing, and off did such a good job.

I legit think 46 days is the funnest romcom ever produced in thailand. it's such a fun, over the top show, with still very great moments. I loved the female friendship in it, I loved that the "perfect" male lead is shown to be more than that, and I absolutely loved the side ship with off & mild (again). pat is probably the most tame & mentally stable off character lol, but he's still very fun & a cutie to watch, especially with mild who's character noina is not too dissimilar from duchess in girl next room. the offmild pairing is just always a pleasure to watch & this whole show is just very fun & lovely :)

I could’ve told you a year ago that the promos for Polin would be anything *but* friends to lovers, and that’s not because the trope is bad but because NC & LN have no chemistry so they’re trying anything and everything to prove it.

They’ve had how many clips/promos at this point showing them touching and they’re all giving nothing. IMO, a pair of actors either have chemistry or don’t, so I don’t blame them for their utter lack of it since apparently they didn’t do a chemistry test beforehand. However, NC looks like she’s trying too hard to give naive yet seduced vibes and LN has one expression (duckface) so together it’s just a cluster.

Production is doing their best to make all their little touches and ~lewks~ viral with Kanthony copies and Saphne storylines but it’ll never be the same. I’m legit concerned that if these promos that are trying so hard are failing, who knows what the actual episodes will be like. Probably blander than English cooking.

I LOVE the friends to lovers trope when it's done right. (When Harry Met Sally, 13 Going On 30, Love & Basketball, Monica & Chandler on Friends.... To name a few.)

But Polin doesn't have any chemistry. They haven't had any for the first 2 seasons. They're not gonna magically have it now. That's not how the trope works. The 'friends' should ALWAYS have chemistry, but Luke Newton can't fucking act and Nicola isn't that great either if we're being completely honest.

They should have just stuck to book order and we'd be getting Luke Thompson as Benedict's magnetic season with his Sophie instead of the hot mess that is Polin.

Watched the prelude in theaters today.

Loved the Kyoru Greatest Hits montage but if y'all had time for that then why couldn't you just give us more original content? Or better yet animate all the scenes you chopped from s3? Smh.

McKay doesn't give the same standout performance as Sawashiro imo but shes definitely not bad.

J. Michael Tatum...I remember thinking when the character designs came out that Katsuya kinda resembled Kyoya Ohtori with the glasses. And then Katsuya opened his mouth and that did not help with the confusion. He is legit charming though and I hate it.

Kyoko and Katsuya genuinely wouldve been such a good pair if there wasn't such a gross power imbalance. Like that man is her teacher. And also the first adult to ever actually listen to her. Can't blame her at all for falling for him but I sure as fuck can blame him for pursuing it. Musty ass.

The best part was after he died and I don't even mean that in a malicious way. The way that grief is portrayed and how it later manifested as part of Tohrus trauma in the main series is so well-written. Kyoko staked her whole life on this older man who promised to take care of her and was left with basically nothing except an empty house and a child she wasnt emotionally mature enough for.

The way her outfit resembles her middle school outfit too always felt deliberate. She literally regresses back to a scared little girl and its depressing af.

The Kyoru at the end. Jerry and Laura will always be my Kyoru. No disrespect to Manaka and Yuuma because they are wonderful but Jerry and Laura were my Kyoru when I was 12 years old watching low quality 2001 anime in parts on YouTube. And they've grown so much as VA's since then too.

"My stubborn girl" had me swooning. Atleast amidst all the grooming, we atleast got one healthy relationship out of this. 😭

Thoughts on the oscar noms? (…and the current drama surrounding it)

Honestly, I need people to realize that Barbie was a cute movie that was ultimately meant to sell Barbie dolls. It had a great set design, really cool visuals and costumes, some fun jokes, and a very good performance from Ryan Gosling. I think Greta being snubbed is weird because the movie was very CLEARLY. DIRECTED. But then again, Wes Anderson does that a lot to mixed results with the Academy, so. A very clear and strong eye does not always please them. If we're gonna talk about women (because apparently the Oscars allow only one lady director) who directed films very smartly, I would say that Celine Song is a better choice. Past Lives was such a good movie, and I think her direction really helped communicate a story in which a lot was left unsaid, pairing well with the actors.

And I'll be real... I need people to get that the movie was always more about Ken. Ken had the best script. Ken had the best arc. Is that right, for a Barbie movie? I don't know, dude. But I frankly don't blame the Academy for nominating Ryan and not Margot, because Margot had nothing great to do and she didn't elevate the material. She was good, she was charming. Ryan was performing a lot more. I like America btw, but I don't get that nom lol.

Also, stop complaining about I'm Just Ken, it was great, let us have fun song nominees.

Best Picture: I don't know why Barbie is there, the Oppenheimer sweep has been boring and though I liked the movie, as a film it was absolutely nothing without Cillian and to me that does not a Best Picture make, Killers of the Flower Moon or American Fiction should win but won't, Maestro is a joke, Past Lives deserves but also deserves more noms, haven't seen Poor Things, Anatomy of a Fall, or Zone of Interest (though at least filmtwt can stop complaining about it not being well-marketed for the Academy) yet. I liked The Holdovers, but that was before I found out the director is uhhhhh a very very bad man.

Best Actor: Leo was snubbed and I do think him campaigning for Lily so hard had something to do with it but that was legit one of his most interesting, un-Leo performances; Bradley is a joke; happy for Colman but haven't seen Rustin yet; Cillian should win and I think he will but Paul G could dark horse it--I don't think his performance was Oscar-worthy but he was good and he's been picking up his fair share of awards; Jeffrey Wright was amazing in American Fiction and if anyone should dark horse it it's him. I'd still give it to Cillian. If this was up to me, I'd toss out Bradley and throw in Teo Yoo, who was so so good in Past Lives. But the Academy is sending a HARD backlash message to Asian creatives after the EEAAO sweep, imo.

Best Actress: As I said, I don't care that Margot wasn't nominated and I don't think she should've been, and imo her best performance was easily I, Tonya; I haven't seen Nyad so no comment on Annette, same with Sandra for Anatomy, and I think Carey had moments in Maestro but she overall was not one of those "standouts in a horrible movie" actors; Lily should win and absolutely killed her performance and dominated her movie, but I am worried that Emma could take it. I'd toss out Carey for Greta Lee.

Best Supporting Actor: Everyone needs to stop saying Sterling snuck in because he was deeply moving in American Fiction and is lowkey highkey one of the best actors working right now; RDJ basically just did Leslie Odom Jr. in Hamilton and F. Murray Abraham in Amadeus but with his RDJ cadence of speaking he can't drop to save his life, but he's taking this for a career Oscar; I hate that Charles isn't there, but if it wasn't him I'd give it to Sterling or De Niro, who gave one of my favorite performances in his career and was SO disgusting and menacing in Killers. Haven't seen Ruffalo, so if it was up to me depending on his performance I'd toss out RDJ for Charles Melton and possibly shuffle some other people around.

Best Supporting Actress: Lol Emily was horrible in Oppenheimer and I'll die on that hill, generally liking her as an actress; Da'Vine will win this and she was amazing in The Holdovers but the director really sours it for me; happy for Danielle, haven't seen TCP; America shouldn't be there but whatever; I literally though Nyad was about a mythological creature until I Googled last night and found out it was about a swimmer.

Best Director: This is going to go to Christopher Nolan for one of his better movies but not his best because that is FAR. AND AWAY. THE PRESTIGE. Should go to Scorsese, his direction for Killers is why (to me) that movie still felt like it was moving at a clip despite the length.

norn9: var commons an interesting game, charming and understandably a classic from the vita era, but over-ambitious and kind of unfocused and bloated, with a few rough spots

without spoilers, I legit think my perception of this game got really skewed at the beginning based on the play order I did... I would not recommend kakeru first HAHA

I think best off for overall plot elements would be something like: Senri -> Heishi -> Sakuya or Itsuki -> Masamune -> Kakeru -> Akito -> Ron -> Natsuhiko -> epilogue but the only one that is super super required is natsuhiko last, I think. I definitely think them putting kakeru on “recommended” was a MISTAKEEE it left me so dazed about stuff playing it first

part of the game’s problems is just that right there... too many damn routes! a lot of them had endings that felt really unfinished, and there’s a fandisc being localized later this year for the first time but! ideally a game should stand on it’s own merits rather than needing a sequel to feel properly resolved v_v that said, I am rather excited for the FD regardless because I’m invested now lol

on a positive note, I loved all 3 heroines! they’re all characterized distinctly and thoroughly, helped by them all being voiced which I love love love to see in this genre. it helps their characterization a ton, and makes me so much more attached to them. they interact frequently, and have each other’s backs in the stressful situations they find themselves in, rather than squabble over things which was really good. I struggle to pick a favorite from the 3, they all have different charms points and mild frustrations for me. mikoto got the most tears from me overall, I adored koharu and her well-executed (imo) neurodivergent vibes, and I could relate too well to nanami’s emotional wall she builds around herself and her, well, PTSD? T_T haah

my fav pairings for each were: Koharu and Senri, Nanami and Heishi, then Mikoto and Natsuhiko!

I also really loved this game’s setting/world lore! it was really interesting, but at the same time it almost feels like the premise of all this would’ve been better served with something that’s not a romance game. it feels like the background and over-arching issues should have had more time and development rather than being brushed over in the course of 10mins in most routes... I know it’s heretical to say for otome games but that’s how it had me feeling. by the time you get to the epilogue it makes thematic sense that the love is an important part but it really, really, does not set that up and build on it well before then so I was left kind of wishy-washy on the game in the middle. I dislike comparing games like this; but the scenario director’s later work, Even If Tempest, handled the romance being integral to the overarching plot much better. though that also was a linear single-perspective story rather than 3 POVS with 3 routes each. orz

getting into more critical things now, the age stuff was a little weird and I just. ignored it most of the time but if that’s something that’s uncomfortable for you (16-17 yr old MCs getting with 20+ yr old guys =_=;) then yeah I strongly do not recommend. they don’t mention it too much but when they do it’s just. man was this necessary. man why did you make nanami 16 when she acts more maturely than the other 2 girls... though that might be the PTSD more than anything AGH. speaking of, I disliked that all of nanami’s routes either have the potential to, or just do straight-up mistreat her... not much to be said about it other than it sucks! it’s not unrealistic but well, forgive me for wanting my romance games to be a bit more idealistic unless they’re going for full tragedy/thriller/etc.

also I think 2 of the routes could’ve been straight-up dropped and had almost no impact on the overall game. ron’s just had... virtually no insight into him other than how awful he is which is like. a matter of taste I guess but god it was more boring than it was shocking or appalling. mundane in his slimy-ness? just magically fix your horrible mans by erasing all the memories that make him who he is. and when he wakes up, he’s somehow the same dude but without all the sadism? wateverrr -_-

and then masamune, I really really like him as a side/support character, and in a bubble I like his character too, and I LOOOOVE his voice actor but man. his dynamic with koharu was uncomfortable. not outright bad but just not a good vibe even if she was never uncomfortable with him it doesn’t sit right. and despite being one of the more ‘important’ characters to the overarching story his route had very little about that stuff in it.. ended up feeling pretty lacking. extremely ironic considering his whole power is being able to see the past of people (and objects?) he touches with his right hand (WHICH ONLY GETS USED ONCE?????). I ended up liking his bad end MORE than his normal end because it focused more on koharu’s relationship with mikoto in a way I liked, even though it was still a tragic circumstance.

my other least favorite route, which I admit at least has important plot and character and background information, is sakuya’s. I was enjoying it somewhat until he straight up ASSAULTS mikoto in a way that was too visceral and realistic for me, immediately made me want to dumpster him and the lack of real consequence or even anger from the MC in response made him irredeemable to me and I was sick of him by the end. even as a side character he chafed me rather than his overprotective comments being funny or... anything else. common yandere L

on the other hand, I think my fav character overall is heishi. his bad end is a little... huhhh... but I try not to judge too hard on those because most feel like insane non-sequitur anyway.. it felt ooc for him even with his emotional instability. I did enjoy that it was longer than basically every other bad end, though. most are throwaways but his felt like there was some real effort behind it, at least in regards to the decisions nanami brings herself to

but anyway, I could understand people not loving his route or being frustrated with the route it takes with his genki-seeming character. but I find his struggle to control and suppress his negative emotions out of legitimate concern for those around him relatable and compelling! regardless though, when he’s a supporting character he’s MVP for me, no doubt. I didn’t expect him to grow on me so much!

Okay I have an honest question as someone new to the FMA fandom. Why do you ship Kimblee and Riza? The only vibes I got from their interactions were he wanted her to suffer. And he, as a person, os a power hungry sociopath with no regard to anyone but himself. Howdy, friend! Nice question you got here, hopefully you'll get a nice answer in return lmao. First off, manga Kimblee's way different to FMA:B Kimblee (I didn't know that either, I only read the manga like two weeks ago) In the manga, dare I say, he's a lot more human and capable of empathy (let's go Arakawa, queen, you make fictional characters so detailed and three dimensional). In FMA:B you can't unfortunately feel this because some of his scenes were cut for pacing (I hear FMA:B has this problem, also, with Maes' scenes that were cut in order to get the plot going faster)

Kimblee's an incredibly fascinating character to me because he's the most aware character in the series (from the veterans).

Now as for why I ship Kimblee and Riza. I'm primarily focused on Kimblee and who he'd mesh with well. For me that's Riza. It's a good point already that in the canon material we have Kimblee respects Riza Hawkeye. And she, in turn, respects his ability back. Goodness, neither agree with each other's view on the world but they respect one another's ability. That's a start! More people have shipped ships with less potential for shipping than this.

There is a level of inhumanity that's given both Riza and Kimblee. A sort of myth build up around them. She's the Hawk's Eye- the greatest sniper from Ishval, she never misses, she's an Angel of Death, a Death Machine. Kimblee's the Crimson Lotus Alchemist, the Ishval Bomber, etc etc. Not to mention that both characters are extremely intelligent. They'd gravitate towards one another. And Riza grew up with an ingenious alchemist. Her being ignorant of alchemy never sit well with me and I think she could hold her own very well with Kimblee in his debates (Kimblee's love language lmao, he just traps you in a conversation and doesn't stop)

And I don't ship Kimbliza because I'm anti Royai (Roy/Riza) I love my boi Roy and Royai is a very beloved ship for me the first time I saw FMA:B. Roy's just so overdone and the market's oversaturated. Besides, if I had hyperfixated on Riza instead of Kimblee I might have shipped Royai more. However I ship Kimbliza because Riza's the one that goes BEST with Kimblee imo. I'd get the most enrichment seeing them together. (Riza No Emotional Intelligence Hawkeye and Solf Way Too Aware Of His Own Self Kimblee makes for a hilarious pairing imo)

However, NATURALLY, this is all self indulgent fanfiction. I'm not saying they could have been canon, I'm not saying they should have been canon. I'm just toying around with them in my canon-divergence universe because my god wouldn't it be soooo cool if they had interacted more? If these two clearly struggling individuals found some sort of peace after war in each other? If they looked at each other, saw Ishval stare back at them, and know without a shadow of a doubt that they'd survived it and come prosperous out of it.

Riza Hawkeye is a deeply, deeply traumatized individual. Even from her childhood, what with what her father had done to her with his alchemical notes. Roy Mustang, and I hate to say this, will forever be tainted for her because of their history with Berthold Hawkeye and Flame Alchemy. In canon, she doesn't ruminate much about what had been done to her, because FMA wasn't Riza's story to begin with, but as one of the main characters I write about I want to put a magnifying glass on her trauma and say: Girl, you good?

That's another thing that I utilize while writing Kimbliza. Kimblee has no hero-worship, he has no feelings of nostalgia tied to his time with Berthold Hawkeye (Flame Alchemy creator, Riza's father, Roy's mustang/father-figure) and he's much more invested in Riza. Roy is forever going to be tied to Berthold because he is the Flame Alchemist. His entire identity is tied with Berthold. He loves Riza deeply, irrevocably, but he also can't even begin to understand Riza's complicated feelings towards her father and the betrayal he dealt her. A father is supposed to protect his daughter. Not hurt her like he had. Berthold Hawkeye chose alchemy over Riza. And Roy would never dare say that to Riza. Kimblee would. Kimblee would validate Riza's feelings on the matter. Because he'd listen to her and he'd understand it. He'd be objective and in these situations you really need someone objective who wasn't there to validate your feelings.

Kimblee's a much more perceptive individual than Roy is. It's been shown in canon that Kimblee first and foremost utilizes his skill of cunning, conversation and debate, reasoning, observation before going to blow someone up. So, like, he's a good listener lmao.

Also, Kimblee is an incredibly self-aware individual in canon. I keep mentioning that, but this man literally doesn't understand that he's so self-aware, I think. Because he looked at all of these shell-shocked soldiers in Ishval and was like: But how did you not expect you'd have to kill the minute you put on this uniform? Why are you all surprised? Shouldn't you take pride in your capabilities? (Because he takes such pride in his alchemy, in his creation, he thinks it would be the same with everyone else's skills)

Since he was prepared for this, he doesn't understand why anyone else couldn't be. But to others this was more or less him starting a fight.

Let's talk about his Alchemy and how much effort Kimblee must have put into devising it, carefully designing and researching the arrays on his palms. You see, scientists and researchers want to see their alchemy go to the very, very limit. And imagine Kimblee's reached that limit. Imagine he's shipped off to war and told he gets to test it in a whole new medium with a completely never before seen amplifier (philosopher's stone). In the manga, during the Ishval chapters, it's honestly so much more visible that Kimblee's not elated that he's killing people and that he's taking such enjoyment out of it but that he can't believe how much his alchemy's been elevated.

THE SOUND of his alchemy, the SYMPHONY, the research he's conducted and brought to a whole new level. It's mesmerizing to him. He's never before thought it possible. Killing people is a job. He put on that uniform like all the rest of the soldiers there. But my god, did you see how FAR that blast went? How many buildings did he completely collapse??

The beauty about the veterans in general is that nobody is worse than anyone else. They all served in Ishval, they all committed genocide. You can't claim Mustang's any better than Kimble if we're going to be looking at what they did in Ishval. Catastrophic things, countless deaths.

And that gives this pairing something that you can't find in many pairings in different fandoms: it gives Kimblee and Riza equal footing. Neither party is without blame, neither party is irrevocably evil. They are both war criminals through and through.

My favourite line that keeps replaying in my head which I wrote down a couple of weeks ago was Kimblee's no worse than any of the other veterans, he goes to the grocery store like everyone else.

Also, Kimblee's not an island. He's not a homunculus. He's a human being and all human beings demand social interaction. This man has been shown many times in the manga that he is very polite and friendly when he wants to be. He can be very empathetic, and he is when he talks to Winry about her dead parents because to him he's learned that this is a good opportunity to be empathetic so he is. But aren't you supposed to be able to turn that off when you're a soldier, to compartmentalize? This man's a walking disaster, true, but have you looked at the other veterans?

Ah, but Kimblee's a sociopath, he doesn't feel empathy! My dude, FMA:B Kimblee definitely. I agree. I watched FMA:B and I was like this man's a cunt and I wanna punch him in the face but fuck he's so cool and basically playing some sort of greek choir role in FMA. In the manga he's a lot more visibly neurodivergent than he is meant to be some callous sociopath hellbent on killing everyone for his own amusement.

Most of the time what I'm posting about is tied to my AU where Kimblee returned the stone and never went to prison. He's got PTSD. He's struggling after war without the philosopher's stone. And I think that's one of the main additions that make Kimbliza all the more easy to digest in Metallic Crimson (my fic, my world, my newest blorbo amusement park).

TLDR: I think they're neat. :)

Xiyao and nielan mirror each other in many ways and imo, LXC’s inadvertent role in NMJ’s death was supposed to foreshadow his role in JGY’s death. He tries to save NMJ but ends up supplying the murder weapon in the form of the song of clarity. He tries to save JGY but ends up supplying the murder weapon in the form of Shuoyue. He tries to get them to reconcile but they end up killing each other. He swears brotherhood with both of them but then feels more distant from them before their deaths.

poor Xichen :( I'm sorry for sitting on this ask for a while, I was turning over what I wanted to say. I think this could be a legit read, except I just can't work out the why. Is it saying something about fate? Is there something in Xichen's nature that makes his best intentions go awry? There's a tidiness to the idea that his role in NMJ's death is foreshadowing that doesn't quite sit right with me-- obviously the two events mirror each other, but does it really prepare us to expect it will happen again? And despite the resonances, there are really distinct differences: LXC teaches JGY Song of Clarity, but everything from that point forward is JGY's doing and he never involves LXC in it at all. Whereas NHS directly and deliberately manipulates LXC into stabbing JGY. Does the one really foretell the other? Do they draw upon similar aspects of his personality? I don't quite think so.

LXC teaches JGY Song of Clarity because at that point he has literally no reason not to. He has absolutely nothing to suspect, and depending on the canon, I'm not sure if JGY had even formed his plan yet when he learned it. It is fully a case of good/innocent intentions being used for purposes beyond his knowledge or control. LXC stabs JGY because someone tells him that he's about to be attacked. That is a case of being lied to.

Now, obviously, foreshadowing can be much more abstract than this. But still don't think that's quite what's happening here. I think LXC probably sees the connection between the two events, and maybe feels that in some strange way the one foretold or was justice for the other. But I don't quite think the narrative itself is setting them up as that kind of pair.

Okay, I'm side-eyeing C/B for staying this year SO HARD. Are they seriously going to try to take away a home country world title from a skater that had freaking CANCER??? If Piper and Paul can stay healthy and skate reasonably well this year, the title is theirs, and they can bet their ass Skate Canada will be on a warpath, especially since they don't have much in the other disciplines, like maaaybe a pairs medal but that's it. I don't know what C/B are thinking. They were literally gifted the gold last year, anybody in their right mind would've taken it and ran. After a lot of trial & error over many years, I've tried cheap vs expensive stuff & found that some stuff just isn't worth it...but some stuff is. This list is more to do with QUALITY for the price vs enjoyment so, grain of salt.

Expensive shampoo - yes. I like Moroccan Oil shampoo but I water it down by about half & my hair likes that better + lasts longer

Expensive chapstick - absolutely not. I got a trial of this Summer Friday's (& others) that smells great but it makes my lips peel vs Walgreens lip balm with a little tint is great!

Expensive makeup - mostly no. The 1 expensive makeup product I like is a tinted sunscreen (Ilia), everything else is whatever. Most of the expensive stuff I tried were gifts bc my friend had an ipsy thing.

Expensive lotion - also no. I live in a cold, high-altitude place after years in humid sea-level conditions so my skin does not do well & Neutrogena Hydro Boost Body Moisturizing Gel Cream with Hyaluronic Acid ($10-14) is the best thing ever. I like a good-smelling hand lotion too, so The Naked Bee Orange Blossom is a wonderful, effective, good-smelling alternative at $8 for a bag-sized tube.

Expensive skincare - mostly no. I like IT Cosmetics Glycolic Acid Peel which is normally like $50 but you can find it elsewhere for half the price. I put some of the Neutrogina face lotion ($18, the Walgreens or grocer knock-off's work just as well for around $10) on on top & my skin is super happy in the morning.

Expensive soap - No. I like to buy hand-made bar soaps from local shops or the Farmer's Market & they are cheap & delightful.

Expensive perfume - no. Just no. I was gifted some & splurged on some a few times & the smell fades just as fast as normal perfume imo, my favorite perfume is from Old Navy & under $20. I mean unless you're getting some ambergris shit I guess? I read that is salvaged without hurting the whale but idk man. Never tried, but someone much more bougie than I am said it's legit lmao.

Expensive deodorant - also no. I know this sounds strange but I was looking for a natural deodorant for a while bc I don't want aluminum on my lymph nodes but Old Spice is more effective & aluminum-free

Expensive shoes - most of the time, worth it. I have a really sturdy pair of hiking shoes that I got on sale for $50 but retailed at $140-ish & they are important. I also have a thrifted pair of leather booties ($20 vs $130), a pair of leather work shoes ($80 I think) that still look great after loads of walking & keep my feet warm. My favorite sneakers are expensive ($80?) but I wait until I get a coupon or they are on sale, I just bought a backup pair of Cole Haan's on sale because they have lasted beautifully & comfortably after 60K steps. However, I'd NEVER spend big $ on heels unless you wear them regularly for work, my $20 Target heels with an ankle strap have served me well for weddings & date nights & still look new!

Expensive bags - not typically. I'm not a purse girly so spending more than $30 on plastic seems ridiculous to me. However, I did invest in a nice hiking backpack, & a little leather backpack I found on sale for day trips. The vast majority of the time however I just use a $5 linen tote. I found my luggage at a discount store for $25.

Expensive sunglasses - no. I really don't get this one, my friend likes nice sunglasses but I never brought myself to try. My favorite pair of hiking sunglasses were $30 & that was the most expensive pair I owned, but they are Humps & are nigh industructable. After a year of heavy use when they started to show ware, I still didn't feel like it was worth it to re-invest.

Expensive clothes - this one is really, really variable. A good, all-purpose coat is worth the $$. I have a Carhartt that is my go-to but I live in a cold climate & I don't tolerate the cold well. Alpaca, wool, canvas, denim, are worth the cash. Leather mittens are a good buy, but I don't have a pair yet (just borrowed). T-shirts--not so much, you can find $5 100% cotton tees at various stores, & some of my favorite shirts were $3-10 at the discount store. I also invest in nice denim pants, because I have such few pairs (4) & I wear them TONS, shorts not so much. I mean, they don't need to be durable. Linen tops are a great buy if you live in a hot climate, I found mine for $23. Expensive workout clothes are a joke tbh, the nicest pair I have I bought second-hand for the cost of a cheap pair & they are only marginally nicer to wear if you have a texture thing, & no more durable. My cheap swimwear looks good & lasts forever, but I have learned that more pricey sweaters are worth it if you live in a good climate--but again, the material really matters. I don't think expensive undies are worth it either, again 100% cotton underthings are easy to come by cheap & since you should replace those every few years I don't get the allure of spending the money, though I do have a mid-range bra for good support & comfort! If you get a good leather belt in black & brown you'll never need another. Socks are socks & you can buy these cheap (my friend likes expensive socks??? why??) even if you are getting wool.

Expensive bedding - yes. Okay but I will caveat this with I am a texture person, & I don't like sleeping in blends, & blends pill, so we split the purchase of a good set of cotton sheets that I've already repaired via hand-sewing; these are perfect during hot summers with no AC. A nice quilt is warm & a work of art. A hide blanket is extra warm in winter. A soft duvet & sturdy insert are nice in winter, too. A good pillow is important. All of these will last forever with care & maintenance. Learn how to sew at least minor repairs!

Expensive cars - I don't get this one, & I've never invested in a nice car but my dad was a car guy & it seems a waste of money to me. My car was second-hand, runs great, looks nice, who cares? GOOD TIRES are a yes though.

Expensive gear - depends on what you do & how much you do it. A good hiking backpack was a life-saver for me, but I do a lot of hiking. Our tents were on the low end & both are functional. My sleeping bag/mats are high-quality & a blend of new & second-hand. A good laptop is something you shouldn't have to buy more than every 8 years imo but that depends on what you do with it, too. Our kayaks, second-hand and self-repaired, float just as well as our friend's $800 kayak. Our 2-for-$20 paddles move water just as well, too. My secondhand snow shoes walk fine.

Expensive journals/sketchbooks/pens/etc. - no. I like my Moleskin & I have a cute quill pen with refillable ink, $20 for a journal seems like a lot but they last through years of carry & use. My pens were $8 & 20 refills are $20 but these also last forever. I don't get the market for other stuff though. My sketchbooks are great & from the discount store, my cheap paints & brushes work just as well as nice ones I was gifted, but I'm not a pro painter or anything. I might change my tune if that were the case?

Expensive cookware - in moderation. We split the purchase of stainless steel pots/pans set, I think it was $60 which isn't bad for something that will also last forever. Cast irons are plentiful, cheap, durable, repairable. I don't get the appliance game though, I think appliances are a silly thing to spend a bunch of money on, then again I'm renting sooooo I might just be ignorant.

Expensive furniture - no. We have a great couch from Ikea, tables/chairs are all second-hand. Bookshelves were on sale, as was our bed frame. I think our house looks nice, & my friends $3,000 couch isn't special at all to me, just anxiety-inducing.

Oof this is so hard. I guess I'm gonna say Manner of Death tho. It kind of broke all my previous favorites because I adored it so much. So unique and interesting. Plus Max & Tul are just next level. I know maybe I'm just obsessed...

But honestly as an adult just seeing adults living their normal lives and having a healthy relationship (for the most part...) is just refreshing to see. And it's so unapologetic too! As much as I feel coming out/coming to terms with sexuality stories are important I appreciated that Tan & Bun were just gay men who found each other.

2. that one bl that scarred you for life

nothing i've watched has really been "scarring" most of that is reserved for western queer movies/shows that pull bury your gays out of nowhere. (looking at u monster pies.)

The most egregious thing about Water Boyy, imo, which was erasing the fact that Pan was a lesbian.

Seconding Th*rnType... gross gross gross. Type's character is just so vile to watch. Tharn is worse! Way too much Sexual Assault that's seen as romantic. Character assassination to the best actor in the series (Kaownah) .

Also Fish Upon the Sky. Aesthetically great pairing but legit Mork was the most insufferable.
