Winter Summoned Drizzt Do'Urden as her Mentor
"Am I wrong to assume this isn't a normal visit?" Winter asked as she stared through the glass, finding her old mentor standing behind her in their reflection.
"Were you ever wrong?" Drizzt asked. It had been so long since Winter had last seen her oldest mentor. When she last saw him, General Ironwood had announced her as the newest Specialist. Farewell was shared as he blew away in a breeze of powdered snow.
"So many times." She sighed. "And not once had you arrived to guide me."
"Because there was nothing for me to guide. Every action you took was exactly the action I trained you to take."
"Even leaving my family for Atlas?"
"Yes." Drizzt's voice became soft. "Family isn't always the best-"
"Even all of my family? Beyond my father?"
"Yes." Drizzt replied. "Even the good ones."
"And now you're here. Why?"
"Specialist Schnee, report!" Winter looked to her scroll, once more seeing her sister's face as it was engaging Grimm in Mantle. "What are your orders for the intruders, ma'am?"
"Because I know you don't know what to do." Drizzt said. "And I know what you want to do is different from what you need to do."
"So I'm supposed to lock my sister away to await trial?"
"Or... There is a third option. A direction that will serve both sides and ease your concerns."
With a gulp, Winter answered. "Detain the intruders, but do not imprison them. Bring them to me immediately."

Kicking ass, taking names. Excerpt of this AU's Drizzt coming to the surface for the first time. Context is that his family agreed to letting him explore to cool down a bad situation growing with Baenre when they already had one with Hun'ett.
(AKA functional drow families who love each other and commit intrigue on other houses)
On the day that he was all but certain the growing light ahead meant that he was close to his goal, he called Guen to him to aid in his exploration. She might be from a different plane, but his dreams, looking through her eyes, had taught him she knew better than he did what was up there.
The large black panther twined around him, her excitement palpable as she almost knocked him over with the fierce rubbing, making him laugh softly.
"Come, let's go see a new world," he encouraged her, and she ran ahead, paused, looking back at him. As soon as he was giving chase, feeling her need to play, she sprinted again, continuing the cycle all the way to the freedom she could smell ahead.
At the mouth of the cavern they were emerging from, Drizzt stopped. Stretched out ahead of him, lit by a soft silver orb and many speckled, twinkling points in the sky, was an expanse of texture and color like Guen had shown him in the dreams.
A river rippled quietly below him, beyond the soft looking ground with its trees at random points. He had a bit of a climb to get down, but the footing looked vastly more stable than some areas he had already traversed below. There were no settlements he could see, but his lessons indicated that following the river would help him find one.
Guen quivered in anticipation, and Drizzt absently nodded, following her lead to get down, to discover what 'grass' felt like, and touch the trees that were hosting so many sleeping animals. Opening himself to the wilds was going to be very distracting here, until he learned all of those presences, and how they handled life.

Look I know that Drizzt is first and foremost a cat person but I love how much of a horseboy he is. Every time he meets some weird magic horse he spends at least 12 hours waxing poetic about the majesty of nature

The true magic of the Nalfein Lives AU is that since Nalfein, Dinin, and Maya all survive, I get to use all three of them to inflict emotional damage on Artemis and Drizzt.

Wait. WAIT.
Kuo-Toa are native to the Underdark. One of their racial traits is that they make up deities and have such STRONG faith in them that they manifest actual divine powers.
When Drizzt leaves Menzoberranzan, he stumbles onto a tribe of Kuo-Toa. He beats an enemy in front of them. They fall down at his feet and praise their new god. He is confused but sticks around because the fish-people are so nice to him and he's lonely. In return, he protects them and teaches them to fight better (and also reins in their murder instincts). The tribe prospers. Their faith grows.
By the time House Do'urden hunts him down, they're facing a small-god with a fishman army.

ooooh modern au dahlia is so good in my mind, she wears like, only early 2000s grungy-glam (is that a thing? it is in my mind) and sometimes asks artemis to look after effron, who just like, deathglares at him while setting small items on fire

I had a thought:
Tumblr media
(He uses a morningstar. I know in the game, you touch the enemy with your hand even while still holding your weapon when you use a touch attack like Shocking Grasp or Vampiric Touch, but electrifying your weapon to hit an enemy with it that way? C’mon, how cool is that?)
(Also Shocking Grasp and Vampiric Touch are both non-blockable attacks, which makes sense considering the damage type, hence getting around the block that way. Man, if you could heal from using Vampiric Touch on undead and constructs, the necromancer would be totally OP in this game.)
Yeah, writing the fight scenes in this fic is gonna be fun.
