I find it so funny when people are like “send me Royai fic recs” and there’s always like three girlies in the comments like “have you heard of this little known totally underground fic called delicate by lantur :)” and then whoever made the post is like “yes of course I freaking know delicate I made this post bc I can’t find anything else that’s that good”

WHO WAS MY FIRST MUTUAL ON THIS GODFORSAKEN HELLSITE WHICH IS WILD???? BECAUSE YOU'RE SOOOOO COOL??? like i lucked out when you followed me back, cause like WHAT?? ME?? EMI THE CLOWN🤡??
anyway i'm going to break the rules because i'm too shy to talk to you so i'm going to take this chance to tell you everything i like about you🙈💖
you inspired me to become more involved with disability activism; we were diagnosed with adhd around the same time so seeing your adhd journey through your #lanturing posts was of great comfort to me; you were kind to me when i clowned in your inbox during a time i was not doing so great (i'm a lot better now, yay!); you give off the kindest, most sweetest energy; i admire your passion and skill for cooking; and i love your cat, westin.
and i am SO extremely excited to read your debut novel!! what a gorgeous cover that no doubt reflects the beauty of the writing itself. congratulations on finishing it; it's such a huge accomplishment and i am cheering for whatever you endeavour next!
okey bye🙈💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
(send in a 💌 for this ask game to hear one thing or more if you're lantur I like about you, besties!)

3, 27, 19 for the soft asks please? :)
3. what's your favorite candle scent?
Oxford Library! It's lovely.
27. which character would you like to be?
Oooh... Tammo from The Long Patrol. I've always loved his character development because it was written so well. Now I have to go back and reread that book.
Now that I've said that, I'd also like to be Virginia au Augustus from the Red Rising series. To be as intelligent as she is would be amazing.
19. most important thing in your life?
Let's be corny on main for a minute: my friends. They've gotten me through a fuck ton of shit and have loved and encouraged me through highs and lows. I'll never not appreciate them for all they've done for me.
15. :) : @lantur -> imaginative

3 and 12 please!! <3
3. What were your top five books of the year?
OBVIOUSLY Nona is number one, I don't have to explain that one, but after that it gets tougher for me to pick/order them!
Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth might be my second place - I pitched it to my friend as "Gideon Nav and Paris Geller team up to run an Easy A-style favor economy at an Irish high school," which I feel like really nails the vibe.
I finally got around to reading Solitaire by Alice Oseman, and it about knocked the wind out of me with how similar Tori is to my high school/college self. Partly it's that it was written in 2012 by a fellow tumblrite, and that vibe is Very Correct, but also just the uhhhhh everything else about her :/ Which was a cool experience to read, but also a bit unnerving, and I definitely had to take a break in the middle of it to head off a Spiral.
I also really liked Mindy McGinnis's The Initial Insult/The Last Laugh duology (which I'm counting as one spot on the list lol) - as with all her books, they're bizarre but I always have fun with her books even if they don't end up being a favorite. These two shake up the collected works of Edgar Allan Poe in a Pringles can and then ask "What if the real horror was being a teen girl living under capitalism all along?"
And then maybe My Eyes Are Up Here by Laura Zimmerman. It's for sure not the most groundbreaking book I've ever read, but it was fun and sweet and a quick read - just the kind of "brain candy" I needed. Me? Projecting? Onto the main character that's a Midwestern honor student who's insecure about her huge boobs and only wears oversized sweatshirts and is navigating the dynamics of team sports and her first blossoming friendship/maybe-something-different-than-friendship with a boy during her sophomore year of high school? I don't know why you'd think that.
12. Any books that disappointed you?
I already answered this but I love complaining so we're going for round two with A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee, which was disappointing because I really, really liked it and then I can't pinpoint why but the ending just didn't satisfy me and I'm so sad about it! It was fun and atmospheric and one of the characters kind of reminded me of a warped AU Harrow and I just don't feel like the ended hit as hard as it should have or something? I read it while I was staying with my friends for fall break and apparently I started making a face as I was reading the last few pages; when I finished it and looked up, my friend was on the other end of the couch smothering her laughter at my expression lol.

Ten Good Things in 2023
Thanks @lantur !
Book Clubs! I was (am) part of a truly absurd number of book clubs this year—two for work (my department and the larger corporate group), and one with a couple of friends from high school who are VORACIOUS readers and regularly are like “we can read three books this month!” With a couple of exceptions, I read ALL of the books for all of these book clubs, and ended up having consumed significantly more nonfiction than I usually do. I read about social justice, a significant amount about mental health, team building, and self improvement. Oh, and AIDS—I read a 600 page (densely printed) book about the AIDS crisis, and feel like I took an entire class on it—I understand so much more about that era in American (and global) history.
Marriage! Alex and I both really enjoyed the influx of loved ones that the leadup to the wedding produced. I had a SPECTACULAR time at my bachelorette party, and the wedding day was so much fun. It feels like my love for Alex has just grown—it happened once when he first moved in, and then just being “husband” and “wife” didn’t change day to day life, but it feels so much more settled in love—like—secure and kind. I am very happy.
Meds.  I have been on Zoloft for nearly a whole year, and was able to reduce my prescription to a half dose this year, which removed some of the side effects that I didn’t like much. It feels great to be equalizing emotionally, and I keep hitting goalposts that remind me of how far I’ve come like “hey, in January of last year I felt AWFUL when we had no sun for a whole week and this year it only bothered me in passing!”
Mom getting a MN condo.  Right before the wedding, my mom bough a condo in Minnesota which seems like such a ridiculous extravagance, but it’s made it a lot easier to have out-of-town guests (including my mom). People can stay longer and have their own space which makes for such a fun visit!
Making clothes! I got really into making clothes from scratch this year, and while I’m not very good at it yet, I really enjoy the process—from picking fabric and patterns to the small successes while I’m working on new things!
Friends, beloved friends! I was able to spend a lot of really quality time with friends this year and enjoyed every minute of it!
Intentional downtime. I picked up two TV shows that I’m watching independently at my pace and have really been enjoying—it’s nice to feel like I’m taking charge of the feeling that I’m always behind all of the pop culture that everyone else is experiencing!
Getting more comfortable being alone. Before my current household setup, I spent a lot more time with my roommates, and was basically never alone or far from the action which I really liked. Now my husband and roommate spend most of their time upstairs during evening downtime which has been a hard transition for me, and resulted in some bad self talk and feeling lonely. I’m not totally adjusted yet, but I’ve been working really hard on being okay with the alone time, and practicing looking forward to it rather than letting it feel sad!
Less scrolling. I cut out about 50% of the time that I used to spend scrolling on Tumblr, fanfiction sites, and social media sites (thus the month later response to Lantur’s prompt :)). I still get plenty, but it’s nice to realize that I haven’t really been on the computer/phone outside of work in a couple of days now and then.
Taking out all of the tools I need before I start a project. Lol, right? Right. I am 3x as quick and productive if I do all of the walking around and gathering tools before I start something, and having the correct tools makes a project so much easier. This is a small part of a larger personal project where I force myself to plan more than I ever have before—i.e., less winging it. Most of the time. I still get to wing it sometimes, as a treat. :)

THANK YOU FOR THE TAG @lantur OMG I AM SO SORRY I HAVE ALL NOTIFS OFF SO I DIDN'T NOTICE U TAGGED ME UNTIL I CHECKED TODAY *AHGHHHHHHHHHH*
I am SO very flattered. Thank you very much!!
Anyway, here goes!
Currently Reading: I'm actually on a break! Last month, I read like I was possessed, so I'm recovering from that. But some stand out reads from that crazy reading month were:
Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space by Amanda Leduc. I read this for my current WIP, which is a fairy tale retelling focused on disabled + ND characters. I learnt a lot from this. Very valuable insights.
The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang. This was a shock because I didn't enjoy Hoang's previous books, but this one? I sobbed multiple times. It also made me consider whether I might actually be autistic as well...
House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland. The prose is SUBLIME. Finger lickin' good, one might say. Also, this made me understand why people enjoy horror books. It's all about the thrill!
Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. I initially struggled to get through this, but listening to the audiobook on 1.8x speed while reading helped me lots (I know, very ADHD of me lmao). This was a slow, strangely relaxing read. I am excited to read the sequel.
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison. Warning: the naming system is horrid. You will get so mixed up and not know who's who. BUT. Still a highly enjoyable read with a charming MC. Maia is a certified delight.
Last Song: Would that I by Hozier.
Last Series: Last series I finished was 'What We Do in the Shadows'. It is so very pansexual and so very funny. I adore it to bits. So hyped for season 4!
Last Movie: Encanto! To this day We Don't Talk About Bruno is stuck in my head.
Sweet, Savory or Spicy: Savoury!
Currently Working On:
'Once Upon a Time' -- a FE3H Dimitri x Byleth fairy tale au.
I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR MORE THAN A *YEAR*. YEAH. Last year I was so frustrated that I could never finish any wips, then I got diagnosed with ADHD, and I was like "Ohhhhhhh." So ever since, I've been completely focused on this one project, which is on its last draft...OR SO I THOUGHT! FOR A SEQUEL/SPIN OFF GAME IS COMING OUT AND THE DEMO HAS ALREADY CONTRADICTED MY PLOT THREADS!!! So I will have to put this on the backburner until I finish the spin-off lmao.
Still, I am incredibly proud of OUAT. My prose and style really evolved with this project, and I'm so excited to share a fairy tale with disabled characters. Also, terrified. Because I don't share the disabilities my characters have. I'm worried about misrepresenting them. Sure, I've done research, but will that be enough? I don't know. Still, I'm glad I tried. I will be open to feedback from my readers. I will be vulnerable with them. I will bare my heart to them by sharing this WIP that represents my heart and hope it be enough.

What is!!! Your favorite Royai fanfic????
Hello! Excellent question! I have a couple all time favorites, which you may have already read since they’re some iconic pieces of Royai history imo ;)
delicate by @lantur (ao3): A wonderful, long, in depth riza character study, with some lovely royai on the side. My unofficial canon, because of how perfect the characterization and writing is.
We That Are Young by Stoplight Delight (fanfiction.net): a super old fanfic I read when I first joined the fandom that I still love :) it’s a sort of canon divergent sort of canon compliant account of Roy and Riza’s lives, spanning from when they were children to the start of the anime.
Buried Alive by @rizahawkaye (ao3): another one I read when first joining the fandom. Riza fakes her own death to infiltrate a terrorist organization. The storytelling is incredible and there’s lots of great twists and turns (as well as some delicious royai drama ofc)
And lastly Cessation- also by @rizahawkaye (fanfiction.net): a haunting little oneshot that has always stuck with me, about riza and roy reuniting one last time before roy is executed for his crimes in ishval.
Thank you for the ask! (Love your art btw!) :)

Recently I finished reading @lantur ‘s beautiful fanfic, delicate. I was so emotionally invested in the story and riza felt like such a tangible person and her story with Roy just felt so real. In response I’ve created some of these artworks. The middle eyes are what I imagine riza and Roy’s eyes would look like!
