Everyone always says what a nice gesture breakfast in bed is. A sweet way to wake up the one you love.

Sneak out of bed while she still sleeps, try to keep quiet in the kitchen so as not to rouse her while her dog whines for his food. Change of plans - feed the dog first. A happy dog is a quiet dog. Now he's in on the plan, and happy to comply with a full belly (the bit of bacon you toss in his bowl helps immensely, and increases the chance of him leaving you alone when you're ravishing her later.) Food cooked, love still asleep, tray acquired, coffee poured with all the things she loves the most. Mission accomplished.

No one ever mentions how dangerous hot coffee is in bed. As in, maybe you should put in on the nightstand. Or, wait until she's finished drinking it before you begin with other morning activities. And thank the Maker you had put on your pajama pants to make everything, because that could have been much, much worse.

Also, we, uh, may need to purchase new sheets. Perhaps a darker color this time.

Anyway, some Modern! One Big Happy Family AU for your birthday!

Lana's birthday had so far been very nice and she hadn't even gotten out of bed yet. She cuddled with Alistair, nuzzling into his bare chest, both of them still panting.

"I'm surprised Bryn didn't interrupt us.” she chuckled, glancing at the door in case the mabari came running.

Alistair gave a cocky grin. “Well, I nipped that in the bud. Set him to watch our son. Didn’t want to emotionally scar anyone, you know?”

Lana smirked, her hand brushing across Alistair’s bare hip. “Well, aren’t I lucky. You’re so thoughtful.”

She burst into squeals of laughter as Alistair dug his fingers into her sides to tickle her, his lips sucking softly at her neck. “Ooh, does this mean the birthday girl wants another present?”

They suddenly froze at the sound of a staccato rapping at the door, followed by a warning bark. “Good morning!” came the little singsong voice.

Alistair hurried into motion, quickly retrieving some clothes. He slipped on a pair of Grey Warden themed briefs Lana had gotten him as a joke, with the griffons right across the bulge, and Lana found herself slipping on an oversized t-shirt and boxers. She giggled quietly at the sight of Alistair biting down on his fist at the sight of her in his clothes. Later, he mouthed.

Finally, Alistair smiled. “Come on in, Pup!”

Tash wore his customary bright grin as he entered the room, carefully balancing a tray of food in his hands, Bryn behind him and pulling a toy wagon with other plates on it. “Sorry about this. I wanted to make it like those hotel breakfast carts you see on TV, but we don’t have a hotel cart.”

Bryn howled as if he had not seen Lana for days and leaped into the bed between the two Wardens, licking Lana’s face and sticking his rear into Alistair, pushing him away.

“Hey, that’s my spot.” Tash whined, although he laughed. “Come on, Bryn!”

As Bryn huffed and got off the bed, Tash smiled. He handed Lana the tray he held, with a precariously full glass of orange juice balanced on the corner. The rest was occupied by a large stack of blueberry pancakes and what appeared to be a breakfast sausage baked into a cheesy croissant and laid on a bed of fluffy eggs scrambled with spinach and feta cheese.

“Did you... make all this?” Lana asked in awe, always surprised by Tash’s cooking ability.

Alistair nodded. “Planned it out and everything. I took him to the store last night for the groceries.”

Tash beamed as he handed Alistair his own plate. “Dad said I could cook and he would wash up. I also made cinnamon rolls and I’ve got a cake baking for later. I’m not going to be able to ice it though, I have school.”

Alistair nodded. “Don’t worry. I can ice the cake for you.” He gave Lana a sidelong glance that told her they would be using the frosting on more than just baked goods.”

Tash sighed in relief as he climbed onto the bed with his own tray. gesturing to the wagon, which had syrup and butter for the pancakes, as well as a couple of extra pigs in their blankets. “Good. Uh, Cullen called, and said he and Morgan would be over to celebrate soon.”

Lana’s eyes widened, and Alistair choked on a large mouthful of pancake. “Tash! That was a surprise.”

“Oops. Sorry.” Tash blushed. Alistair gave in and ruffled his hair. “Also, Auntie Leliana said she could pick me up from school. So you don’t have to worry, and can relax.”

Lana leaned over and kissed Tash on the forehead. “Awww, you’re so sweet.”

Tash beamed at her. “Happy birthday, Mom.”

Alistair drew Tash into his arms and hugged him, glancing at Lana as he carefully avoided Tash’s horns. “Just out of curiosity, how many dishes did you use? If say, someone wanted to cook a romantic lunch or dinner for a certain birthday girl?”

Tash snickered. “I don’t think you really want the answer to that. There was a lot of cooking involved here.”

Alistair sighed, biting into his croissant and giving a happy sigh. “Worth it. Pizza for dinner it is. Sorry, love.”

Lana pushed her tray forward to scoot close to her family, joining in the hug and receiving a deep kiss from Alistair. “I don’t need anything else but this right here.”

“Awwww...” Tash grinned. “Love you, Mom. Love you, Dad.”

Bryn huffed.

“Love you, Bryn! Please don’t come up here. Syrup will get everywhere.” Tash pleaded hurriedly, and Lana laughed.

Today was going to be wonderful.

Last minute sinful Sunday: Alistair and Leliana both happen to have to go off on their own missions, leaving Lana and Amayian all by themselves at Skyhold while they're gone. The last thing Alistair does before leaving is mention to Amayian how poorly Lana sleeps when she's alone 👀

Oh my God, I’m typing through a silvery blur of tears! I found Lana on Twitter and immediately fell in love with her Art Nouveau pieces. I had the chance to commission an Art Nouveau piece of my Warden Surana, and let me tell you - from start to finish this whole experience has been an absolute delight. The artist was so lovely to talk to, was super methodical and gave me weekly updates and it was all so enjoyable I’m almost sad the piece is finished now. Almost :)

If you like this style, i can’t recommend this artist enough!

2. How many are…not great? Artful Dog’grr is pretty silly, but it made me laugh since it’s about a mabari mischief maker. And Privacy...I just needed to call it something and I couldn’t come up with a better title.

4. How many did you know before you started writing/creating, or near the beginning? Dance in the Shadow of Honor, Acerbic Alchemy, Silence, Patience, Catharsis, Taking Flight, Laughter

5. How many are quotes from songs or poems? None, unless I’m forgetting something. Well, Silence may have a very very tentative connection to “The Sound of Silence.”

6. How many are other quotes?  For the Republic, obviously. Dance in the Shadow of Honor is an internal quote, I guess? Most of my titles are mostly descriptive, though.

7. Which best reflects the plot of the story/content of the fanwork? A lot of them do, actually. Dance in the Shadow of Honor, Playing the Odds, and Splitting the Stone are pretty literally the plot.

8. Which best reflects the theme of the story? Again, a lot of them. Taking Flight, Silence, Patience, A Taste for Danger, and Saying Goodbye in particular, though.

9. Which best reflects the character voice of the story/pov of the fanwork?  Laughter, I think. For the Republic does in a very ironic way.

10. Which is your favourite title?  Dance in the Shadow of Honor. I really worked on that one, and it has layers of meaning. Silence is a close second because it’s another with layers of meaning in the story.

Whaaaaat? Me thinking about Cullen doing some solo-training, curls loose from the sweat and wind, shirt loose, him panting but never ceasing well-practised movements with his sword while Lana and Alistair watch from afar and are definitely wanting a piece of that? I would never 😏

Oh. Oooooh. 👀😏

Yeah, they would.... Definitely watch that. They wouldn't be too obvious about it at first, mostly because they know how shy Cullen is and they wouldn't want to embarrass him too much. They'd probably be watching from ramparts from above as he trained in that small area Bull and Cassandra hang out in. Y'know, probably trying to find a spot without many people watching since training down the hill around the troops usually calls more attention than wanted. Cullen probably goes to this spot when he's trying to work some stuff out, just by himself, and most people know that and know to just leave him be unless needed.

But nope. Wardens leering from above. Shifting their stances when Cullen loosens his shirt because he's getting all hot (in more ways than one). Lana's feet aren't on the ground anymore because she's got both hands on the parapet by now, leaning much further over it than she realizes she is, and all because at one point Cullen's shirt slips a bit to show more of his shoulder. Part of her wants to pop down there and help him tie the string on his shirt in a way that will help him keep it loose but also keep it more steadily on him during training, but another part of her just wants him to get frustrated with it and take it off. A girl can dream, right?

Alistair at some point nudges Lana and teasingly ask if he should go down and challenge Cullen to some duels. Yknow, for training purposes 😏 Which, of course, Lana says, "Yes!" A little too quickly and enthusiastically and loudly. And Cullen pauses at the noise, looking up and finding Lana slinking halfway down the parapet, shyly lifting her hand as a half-wave and half-apology for the outburst as Alistair gleefully waves as well. See, Lana knows that Alistair will remove his shirt first if they're sparring. And once one of them removes it... The other is sure to follow 😏❤️
