I took the liberty of writing a little about every book under the cut, because it is 22:30 and I am passionate about these books.

Lavinia, Ursula le Guin. It's le Guin, do I have to say it? I really have, because the depths of study on ancient animism in the Italian countryside is extraordinarily well researched, and even aside from the ambitious narrative approach of Lavinia speaking with Aeneas, the study that went into it is one of the most respectful and involving approaches to ancient spirituality I have read.

The Fury is Silvina Ocampo's recently translated short-story compilation! Whole-heartedly recommend any of her short works, which I understand are published with different titles. Reading anything of hers feels like the pervasive grey silence of staying awake till four a.m. as you consider all the familiar people and strangers you have known and reconcile with the strain of incurable isolation and cruelty present in human nature. Life, Silvina tells you, is sharpened and not redeemed by the possibility of understanding. You are not safe from Silvina Ocampo's studies in unsettling mundanity; no one, Silvina warns, is ever safe within themselves. But at least Buenos Aires is very beautiful, and so are all her deliciously malicious women.

The Fée et Tendres Automates (Béatrice Tillier-Téby) graphic book series starts with this book, about Jam, a young man who is not so young, surviving in a dystopic Victorian society while trying to reunite with the sentient mannequin he's in love with...it is moving, it is bold, it has class warfare and magic and a mad scientist, it is gorgeously written and illustrated.

I read The Blue Castle (L. M. Montgomery). Loved the Blue Castle. 'A book about being in your twenties' is a bad summary, but technically not wrong?

I wavered on putting on Claúdia Andrade's short-story collection 'Quarter Finals and Other Stories', because it's not translated, but it was my favourite book of the year, in many ways! An incisive and imaginative writer with a delightfully chilly grasp on human nature. I find myself thinking about the scenes she invokes several times a week. For instance, I think all dying old women should be cursed to speak the truth of every secret they ever knew.

Lords and Ladies was a lot of fun! Also reread Wyrd Sisters. Every years Granny Ogg grows hotter wait who said that.

The Fox (D. H. Lawrence) is about cottage-core lesbians, but like, detestable cottage-core lesbians in post-war England. It's terrific psychological work - I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The last paragraphs haunts me. Will never trust seaweed metaphors again.

The Painter of Birds (Lídia Jorge) is translated. I recommend it. I recommend it a normal amount. I might be lobbying Lídia Jorge for a Nobel, idk. In all seriousness - she is an absolute powerhouse with a career of profound, invasive, masterful works, she's got most Portuguese language and French awards, do get a Nobel while she's still kicking. God!! This book!!!!

What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours (Helen Oyeyemi) is like nothing else. Ruiz Zábron married Angela Carter and then had an affair with Olga Tokarczuk? But it's queer and it's not white and unapologetic about being undefinable speculative fiction. Still chewing on it. Wonderful, wonderful, terrific.

Title: Simmer Pairing: Seth Rollins x Reader Summary: Seth struggles to compose himself during his tag match against Andrade and Zelina. R WC: 1228

"I don't like this," Seth said as Y/n smoothed down the fabric of his jacket. Y/n had to admit that it was odd for Andrade to demand Seth take this mixed tag match before their United States Championship match, but Seth had no choice but to accept it. Y/n was more than capable of fighting Zelina, so it wasn't like Andrade could rely on his manager for the win. There was some other tactic at play here, one that Seth couldn't figure out. All of it had him worrying, especially since Y/n had just barely been cleared following the minor concussion she had gotten during her match against Ronda.

"It'll be fine. Andrade never said you had to win tonight, nobody did. Just accepting his challenge means that he's your opponent next PPV. You'll win the belt off of him, and we'll never have to give him a second thought ever again." Y/n had always been good at calming Seth down, even when Seth didn't want to let her. The two of them stood back and waited for their cue, a mixture of their music that had been a last-minute gift from Triple H.

Seth walked out first and bowed as if he was presenting Y/n to the crowd. She couldn't help but smile and laugh as she walked out with Seth. She had never met anybody with such a stage presence before in her entire life. Seth had a way of moving crowds that meant no matter what, they'd be behind him. Y/n was relieved to go out by his side because she didn't have to worry about convincing anybody that she was the good guy here. Her checkered past in the WWE Universe's eyes didn't matter because they were arriving together as the ones who would defeat these particular bad guys.

"After you my lady," Seth said as he held open the ropes for Y/n. She ducked under them and held them open for Seth as he went in. "Why thank you."

"You're very welcome," Y/n said as she pressed a kiss to Seth's cheek. These were the moments that everybody wished for whenever Y/n and Seth interacted. They wanted the cute little moments mostly kept behind closed doors. Everybody knew that they were absolutely mad for each other, neither one could go a single interview without talking about how inspirational or helping having the other in their life was. Even before they had officially gotten together it had been that way.

"Be careful," Seth said as he stepped out of the ring to let Y/n start. He didn't understand why Andrade wouldn't just start the match himself, but he didn't question it. He just let Y/n do her thing in the ring. Seth knew she was more than capable of winning this entire match before he even had a chance to tag in. However, Zelina was smart and knew that Y/n overpowered her by a lot. So, instead of trying to fight Y/n, she made the woman chase her around. They made their way in and out of the ring several times before Zelina tagged Andrade in.

Y/n loved watching Seth wrestle. He was truly an artist in that sense. Even Andrade's wrestling was captivating, and if Andrade wasn't feuding with Seth, Y/n would have loved to learn a little more of his style. She had always seen pro-wrestling as less of a fight and more of an art form. Everybody had to work together in one way or another, taking the things they had learned on their own and melding them together for a final product. Seth and Andrade moved around each other with levels of communication that could only come with years and years in the business. Y/n was nearly so caught up in watching them that she almost missed Seth's tag for her to come back in.

"Go get her," Seth said as rolled out of the ring. Y/n didn't need to be told twice and she charged right for Zelina. This time, Y/n was prepared for Zelina to slip out of the ring and followed her right out. What she wasn't prepared for, however, was Andrade tripping her as she ran around the corner. She tried to catch herself, but ended up running into the ring post and smacking her head on the LED light panel. It was a sickening noise that had Seth rushing over to her side, where Andrade was helping to pick her up. "Get your hands off of her!"

"It was an accident, he's trying to help," Zelina tried reasoning. There was no point, Seth was having none of it, so the moment Seth was close enough to catch Y/n, Andrade dropped her. He mumbled something in Spanish as he moved away, but Y/n couldn't focus long enough to hear it. All she knew was that he was looking at her as he said it.

"It's okay, I'm okay," Y/n told Seth as she tried standing up. She couldn't hold herself up and nearly fell the moment Seth let go of her. He didn't let it happen again and scooped her up into his arms as he looked around for a place to set her. Corey stood up and offered his seat, which Seth placed Y/n in before he ran back into the ring to face Andrade.

"I'm going to fucking kill you," Seth said loudly. He didn't care if the mics picked it up or not. He was livid, angrier than he had ever been in a match with someone else. Refs and officials ran down there as Seth lunged at Andrade. Y/n watched as Seth rained down punches on his opponent. The match was called as a draw and their rematch was announced as a title match at the next PPV. Y/n was taken back to medical, where Seth met her after he had showered and gathered their things.

"You really Hulked out on him back there." Seth was relieved to see Y/n so relaxed and joking. He sat down in one of the chairs by the covered bench she was sitting on and handed Y/n one of his hoodies.

"How are you feeling?" Seth asked. It was hard for him to see Y/n this way, even if there could have been nothing wrong. The goose egg forming on the side of her forehead told him that she wasn't completely home free.

"Doc says that I'm out for a month at the least. I gotta come in for weekly concussion tests and maybe a scan or two, but they aren't too worried other than that. Now, I'd love for you to take me home."

"I'd love to take you home," Seth said as he stood up. Y/n grabbed onto his hand and walked the two of them out of the medical area. They had been the main event, so everybody was starting to clear out by the time Y/n and Seth reached the women's locker room. Seth was a bit apprehensive whenever Y/n walked out with Zelina, but there didn't appear to be any hard feelings between the two women, so he played it nice and friendly until they were all out of there.

DAY 10: ECHOES OF THE PAST 🗝️📜(2/2) ->

Historical parallels with Medieval bastard Kings.

John I of Portugal

To complete the the previous post of this meta, we're going to dive in the parallels and simmilarities between Jon Snow and John I of Portugal through the following points:

BASTARDY

John I of Portugal also known as John of Avis, was the bastard son of King Peter I of Portugal and Teresa Guille Lourenço, a Galician noblewoman, lady in waiting of Inês de Castro, or according to other sources, the daughter of some Lisbon merchants.

Jon Snow is officially known to be Ned Stark's bastard son, and if we consider R+L=J, he's Prince Rhaegar and Lyanna's son, and as far as we know Jon is still a bastard.

PARENT'S TRAGIC LOVE STORY

John I's father, Peter I of Portugal fell in love with Inês, a lady in waiting and cousin of Constanza Manuel de Villena (Peter's wife).

After Constanza died, they became lovers and they had four children and they wed in secret, but some Portuguese nobles and Peter's father, Afonso IV of Portugal, disliked their relationship because the possible influences of Inês' family. They plotted to kill her, Inés was killed by three of those men and it's said that when Peter became king, he put Inês' corpse in a throne next to him so that the people would swear allegiance to her as queen of Portugal and looked for revenge chasing the ones who killed Inês. John I was born a few years after Inês died when Peter I had an affair with Teresa Lourenço.

Jon's parents, Rhaegar and Lyanna met at the Harrenhal Tourney, in which both participated, Lyanna as the Knight of the Laughing Tree, Aerys sent Rhaegar some men to learn the identity of the mystery knight, so it's likely that Rhaegar figure it out and then crowned her as Queen of Love and Beauty when he won the tourney. They fell in love and run away together, Rhaegar died at the Battle of the Trident during Robert's rebellion and Lyanna died after giving birth to Jon at the Tower of Joy.

BROTHER IS THE KING

After Peter I of Portugal died, he was succeeded by his son with Constanza Manuel de Villena, Ferdinand I, and John held a prominent position during the reign of his brother.

Jon is a brother of the Night's Watch when Robb is proclaimed as King in the North and during his brief reign.

Apart from that it would be argued that Aegon VI fits here too because he's Jon's brother, but Young Griff's identity as Aegon VI is doubtful and he hasn't taken control of Westeros yet.

MILITAR EDUCATION AND CAREER

John was educated by Nuno Freire de Andrade, Master of the Order of Christ, and John became Master of the Order of Avís, one of the most important Orders in Portugal during the Middle Ages, from which he will take his last name.

Jon joined the Night's Watch, which can also be considered a militar order in which chastity is also imposed on its members just like the Order of Avis. Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch has been one of Jon's mentors, so just like John, Jon had the leader of a militar order as a mentor, and then became the head of a militar order.

RELATIONSHIPS/LOVE INTERESTS

While John formed part of the Order of Avis, despite vows of chastity, John had two bastard children with Inês Pires when he was a teenager, Beatrice and Afonso, 1st Duke of Braganza.

Jon broke his vows by falling in love and being with Ygritte, even though Jon didn't had children with Ygritte, and Jon has also expressed that he didn't want to have them because of the stigma of being a bastard and the classist Westerosi society.

POLITICAL MATCH MAKER

John was one of the negotiators of the successive marriage projects of his niece and the heiress Beatrice of Portugal, who would end up marrying John I of Castile (Henry II of Castile's son), as a way to seal peace after the Fernandine Wars, in which Ferdinand I tried to overthrow Henry II from the Castilian throne, who became king after killing his legitimate brother Peter I of Castile (who was Ferdinand I's cousin), and was supported by one of Peter I's legitimised bastard children, Constance of Castile.

In the agreements established that each one would independently reign their kingdoms and the offspring of both would inherit Portugal, although if Beatrice died without children, the heirs of her husband would inherit Portugal, and John I of Castile has children from a previous marriage to Eleanor of Aragon (this is important detail for later).

Jon has also arranged a wedding of a familiar during his time as head of the militar institucional, as the Karstarks originated as a cadet branch of the Starks, and there have been intermarriages between the two houses, so we could assume Alys and Jon are distant cousins, such as Alys and Sigorn's wedding.

PROBLEMS OF SUCESSION AND INDEPENDENCE OF THEIR KINGDOMS & THEIR RISE TO KINGSHIP

After the death of Ferdinand I, a succession crisis took place in Portugal between Beatrice, who had no offspring, and the children of Peter I of Portugal with Inés de Castro (who were considered bastards by the Portuguese nobility), and also John revolted at end of 1384 with the support of the commonfolk and the bourgeoisie, and promoted a war to maintain the independence of Portugal, adopting the title of defender of the kingdom, which he achieved by defeating Beatrice and John I of Castile, for which he was crowned king of Portugal, being the first king and founder of the House of Avis.

Due to what happened to John with the fight for the independence of Portugal against another family member, it is most likely that in TWOW when Jon arrives in Winterfell the inheritance problem between the Starklings will have to be solved, and with Robb's will and his position as the older brother and being the one with political experience, supported by the Free Folk, the Mountain Clans and some Northern Noble Houses like the recently created House of Thenn, formed by Alys and Sigorn, Jon will be named king in the North breaking relations with the Iron Throne that is under the control of the Lannisters and the North will be (for the moment) independent again. In addition, the matter of Beatrice and her husband John I of Castile reminds me a bit of the marriage of Sansa and Tyrion, being Tywin's initial plan to get the North under the rule of the Lannisters, although that did not work and the best method was having the Boltons at Winterfell. Plus both Tyrion and John I of Castile have lions in their sigils, although the Castilian lion is purple (or in some media, red) and the Lannister one is golden.

ALLIANCES, MARRIAGE & OFFSPRING/POSSIBLE MARRIAGE (SPECULATIONS)

Like his brother Ferdinand I, John supported Constance's cause, allying with her against John I of Castile, but they were defeated and Constance did not get the Castilian throne, her daughter Catherine of Lancaster married John I of Castile's son, Henry III, and their son was John II of Castile, thus uniting the two lines of succession of Alfonso XI of Castile.

As well as Peter I of Castile's two eldest surviving daughters married two of Edward III of England's sons (Constance married John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster and Isabella married Edmund of Langley, 1st Duke of York), John I of Portugal married Philippa of Lancaster, John of Gaunt's eldest daughter with Blanche of Lancaster, and they had a loving marriage and eight children: Blanche, Afonso, Edward I of Portugal, Peter, Henry, Isabella, John and Ferdinand.

Edward was a poet and writer, his more important books were, on good governance,'The Loyal Counselor', 'Book of Councils', 'Response, being princes, to the infant D. Ferdinand about some complaints he had of his father'; on sports and horsemanship, with educational connotations, 'Teaching book about riding well in any saddle' and "Regiment to learn to play weapons'.

It's very likely that Jon will need to make more alliances to stablish his position as King in The North and preparing for the War for the Dawn and fight against the Others, and one way to do it it would be marrying someone with a prominent influence and a big army.

And although Dany hasn't landed on Westeros yet, due to her army and her influence as queen claimant to the Iron Throne, could be a good ally, and Dany would like to help due to her care for people who are needed, so probably Jon and Dany would join forces and eventually they could fall in love, marry and rule Westeros together.

Plus, if Jon ans Dany have children, one of them could be a poet like Edward I or a music composer and a bookworm like Rhaegar.

CUNNING/KNOWLEDGE

Contemporary writers state John that his position as a master of a religious military order made him an exceptionally learned king for the Middle Ages. His love for knowledge and culture was passed down to his children, who are collectively referred to by Portuguese historians as the illustrious generation, for example, Edward I the Eloquent and Peter were considered as two of the most learned princes of their time, and Henry the Sailor invested heavily in science and in the development of nautical activities.

Although Jon is often seen as a warrior, he has shown interest on knowledge and books too and he has been showing competences and skills for being a good leader and he's cunning good at politics and a good administrator, as he has been proving during his time as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.

DRAGON IMAGERY

John I of Portugal's sigil has some elements that make me link him with Jon, his emblem has a crest with a dragon, which was usually used in the heraldry of the Portuguese Royal family, in which a dragon appears in the Royal crest or two green dragons as the supports of coat of arms, which makes me think of Rhaegal, a green dragon, who was named after Rhaegar and most likely Jon is its dragonrider.

Basilica of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá (Maracaibo)

The Basilica of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá is the busiest Catholic temple in the state of Zulia in Venezuela, located in the center of the city of Maracaibo. A building dedicated to the Virgin of Chiquinquirá, patron saint of the state of Zulia. The basilica has 3 naves and 2 towers, a high altar, a presbytery and numerous niches dedicated to various saints

In 1686, Captain Juan de las Nieves Andrade built a hermitage of mud and straw in honor of San Juan de Dios, to whom he was devoted.

In 1709 the miracle of the restoration of the tablet took place. A humble lady found the tablet on the shores of Lake Maracaibo and placed it as the lid of a jar, then she heard a knock and some lights coming from her house and when she entered she found on the tablet the resplendent image of the Virgin and Child next to St. Anthony and St. Andrew. The image on the tablet became an object of pilgrimage for the devotees, and the tablet was transferred to the hermitage of San Juan de Dios, (now the Basilica).....

Around November 18 of each year, the basilica is the center of the Chinita Fair, an important socio-cultural event in the region, during which in addition to religious activities such as the procession and the descent of the virgin, events such as the bagpiper sunrise in front of the basilica, bullfights in the bullring of the monumental of Maracaibo, the lighting of the Christmas lights on Bella Vista and La Limpia avenues, the game of the Águilas del Zulia at the Luis Aparicio stadium, the Orchid Festival for Super Sábado Sensacional

Imani’s POV

Tonight is the night Daejah and I make our debut here on the debut of Collision. Fans have been speculating for months wondering where we would end up once our contracts with NJPW ended. After fixing my outfit taking the hood down and my hair, We start to walk into the arena here in Elmont We were going to be snuck into the arena since our debut was a surprise for the fans and the rest of the roster. We were met by security who escorted us to Tony’s office. We shook Tony’s hand once we entered his office. “Good afternoon ladies, I hope your flight was alright.” He said as we sat for our meeting. “It was good, nothing too hectic.” Daejah answered. I nodded. “Great! So here’s the run down of tonight.”

After leaving Tony’s office security took us to one of the empty locker room’s that wasn’t being used. The show had already started by the time we arrived, seeing that CM Punk was back as well as some others. Daejah looked at me as we watched Buddy Murphy go against Andrade. “Does Kaeden know we’re here?” She asked. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and shook my head. “I haven’t told him anything, he still thinks we’re in Japan for the most part.” Speaking of my older brother my phone started ringing showing he was FaceTiming me. I moved to a wall opposite of the room while Daejah turned down the volume on the tv. “There she is!” He said smiling. “What’s up Kae?” I asked. “Just sitting in catering with the lads, I figured you and Daejah would be asleep right now. You guys training or something?” He replied. I nodded, “Yeah and we’re finishing up our departing promo for next week.” We continued to catch up, Daejah joining. “Actually where’s my favorite?” I asked. My brother rolled his eyes smiling and I could tell the phone was being passed. “Hey best friend.” I said as Anthony’s face appeared on the screen. “Hey miss champ, still no decision yet?” He questioned. Everyone seemed to only care where we ended up which is understandable considering how much WWE is going down the drain with all the scandals. “You’ll find out soon enough!” Daejah piped in as she took my phone and talked with Anthony. A knock was heard from the door and security popped in and motioned is that it was close to time. “Hey Anthony we just got called in for a meeting with the bosses, we’ll catch up later? And Darius he still owes me dip n dots!” I said. I could hear laughter from beside him. He nodded and said goodbye before giving the phone back to my brother and we said goodbye. I looked at Daejah as she zipped up her hoodie over her head, “Showtime baby.” Then zipped mine up as well.

The current match between Skye Blue & Willow vs Toni Storm and Ruby Soho was coming to a close as we sat at Guerilla holding out kendo sticks. Then Tony gave us the que. the lights in the arena went out and we took off to the ring. Confusion could be heard all around from the fans to the commentary crew. We kicked Skye and Willow out of the ring and then the lights came back on. Ruby and Toni had their backs facing us. “Who the hell is this?” We could hear Nigel say. I smirked under my hood as the two turned around and looked shocked. I swung at Toni as Daejah went after Ruby. “The Outcast’s are being laid out by these masked assassins!” Willow and Skye had retreated backstage as Toni and Ruby lay in the ring in pain. I raised my hands and then we both unzipped our hoodies taking them down. The crowd went insane. “It’s Gaia Hale and Seraphim! They’ve demolished the AEW Women’s World Champion!” I stomped on Toni’s stomach one last time then picked up the title then went to one of the cameras in the corner. I smiled and kissed the title before grabbing her and giving her one last Widow’s Peak as Daejah threw Ruby over the top rope by commentary. Then we rolled out of the ring as my theme played.

Once backstage we were greeted by the social media team wanting pictures and I seen my brother walking up to Guerilla. After finishing our pictures I was pulled into a hug, “You really know how to make an entrance.” I smiled as he let go and went to Daejah as they kissed and hugged. Then I heard another voice behind us, “Looks like you made the right decision with a great debut as well.” I turned to seen Anthony standing with a guy in a black hoodie carrying a title belt and a bag of chips. “That we did.” I smiled and hugged Anthony as well. My brother chimed in, “Ladies this is Hook or Tyler, Hook this is Daejah and my sister Imani.” “You’re Taz’s son right?” Daejah asked after we shook hands. He nodded, “Yeah that’s me.” “I thought you guys didn’t keep up with AEW?” Anthony questioned. “We‘be been watching recently, and he was giving us advice on things while we were in Japan, we know enough to get by.” I said. They nodded and we all decided to go to catering until Anthony has to go for his promo.

I turned my phone back on and seen so many notifications from Twitter to Instagram. Fans tagging us in many posts about our debut and family members congratulating us. I decided to post the pictures we took before we came to the arena on Instagram. “So are you two going to be a tag team?” Anthony asked. “Sort of, more like a faction. We can do singles and tag team matches. Kinda like how we did in Japan.” Daejah answered. I nodded and continued to listen to the conversation, giving my input when needed. Scrolling through Instagram I decided to follow some of the roster, including Hook. He didn’t have that many posts from what I see, and there’s no denying he’s attractive. Most are professionally taken, if he wasn’t wrestling he could definitely be a model. I decided to mute my notifications until tomorrow, not before liking Daejah’s diss to Darius. “We should go out to celebrate tonight. I’m sure we can get some of the roster to come. Have you guys introduced and all.” My brother suggested. I looked up from my phone and was a little hesitant. Jet lag was starting to hit but I didn’t want to be boring. Daejah could tell, “Yeah we’ll show up just text us the address. We’re going to head back to the hotel to get ready.” We bid our goodbyes to the guys and headed out.

She hummed an agreement, “What do you think about Hook?” I looked up to see her with her arms crossed and smirking at me. “Oh no don’t you start. You’re not playing matchmaker, we just got here not even 5 hours ago. Don’t even.” I argued. She raised her hands in mock surrender, “I didn’t say anything about matchmaking, just asked what you think about him.” She grinned. I rolled my eyes, “Yeah sure. He’s cool from what I’ve gathered so far from the tiny amount we’ve hung out with him. And yes he might be attractive but remember Daejah I’m not in the mood for a relationship after you know who.” I answered after grabbing a new outfit. “Okay okay fine but it won’t hurt to scratch an itch while you’re here. There’s plenty of attractive people on both sides of the roster.” She said. “Yeah yeah whatever let’s just get ready to go before I end up changing my mind and going to sleep.” I replied.
