❤️ Christine Daaé
Honestly I would have added more but I had to stop at some point lmao
Rebecca Caine: She has a voice that can actually rival Carlotta's, and her Christine was every inch the romanesque, passionate heroine and you could totally see why the Phantom and Raoul were both in love with her. And she is PISSED in the Final Lair, and it's glorious.
Patti Cohenour: AN ACTUAL ANGEL. Graceful, kind, compassionate, airy, without ever coming off as a deer in the headlights, and with a golden voice to boot and a Think of Me cadenza of her own.
Julie Hanson: Look, I don't like Susan Kay's take on Christine for a variety of reasons. Julie Hanson took one look, removed everything about Kay!Christine that was annoying, gave her a nice little spine of her own while keeping the childlike quality which all culminates in a haunting finale where you can tell she'll be traumatized for life, and it takes the tragedy to another level.
Rachel Barrell: She felt very Victorian to me? Could be the looks since she has a very "Victorian" face, if that makes any sense. And if anything, I know people will disagree with me but I remember my first impression of Christine reading the Leroux novel was pretty much like how she portrayed her in the musical - yeah, Leroux!Christine was scared shitless, both at the situation and what she could end up doing or being forced to do, but she also had a backbone of steel, she had anger about the whole situation and wasn't afraid to show it, and she didn't take any shit from anyone. Rachel embodied that perfectly.
Kristi Holden: A dreamy but nervous Christine, who's still able to overcome her fear of the Phantom to give him the scrap of love he needed so badly in order for the good to overcome the bad, and who was somehow even better in the World Tour than in Las Vegas (and she was already quite good there).
Anna O'Byrne: Her voice can be a little all over the place, but she basically took the tormented side of Christine and upped it to eleven. And she's absolutely gorgeous to boot.
Samantha Hill: Not the strongest vocal-wise, but she basically thought every single gesture up to the last without ever over-acting, all the while being an adorable little ball of charm.
Elizabeth Welch: If I had to sum up her Christine, all the odds are against her, and she decides to be even kinder as a result. I wouldn't say her Christine is in love with the Phantom (granted, I haven't seen her with Jeremy Stolle yet and Hugh Panaro doesn't really lend to a more romantic take on the story), but it makes her kindness for Panaro's little asshole of a Phantom (affectionate) all the more poignant.
Valerie Link: Her Christine is an adorable puppy person who likes everyone and can be genuinely shocked and hurt when people are, say, mean to her (which makes Nicky Wuchinger pushing around people who are rude to her all the more satisfying, because, really, HOW DARE YOU)
Lauri Brons: Imagine if Anne Shirley was in Phantom of the Opera. That's it, that's Lauri Brons's Christine.
Lisa-Anne Wood: Another nervous Christine, who gets frightened pretty easily, is the shy side, but push her around, and she will let you know how much she DOES NOT LIKE IT, which gives for a nice little character arc.
Mary Michael Patterson: Subdued but with lovely facial expressions, she plays a Christine that seems humble, calm and shy at first but who has a backbone of steel if you poke her too much.
Tamara Kotova: Gorgeous voice, lovely facial expressions - she's basically the Russian Rebecca Caine in some regards, because you could totally see why the Phantom and Raoul would be as besotted as they are with her.
Emmi Christensson: She improved SO MUCH from the West End to Stockholm, intelligent and mature but with a nice arc of her own.
Meghan Picerno: I personally liked her better on Broadway than in the World Tour, where I was kind of meh about her, but her take-no-shit Christine worked pretty well with Ben Crawford's crazy ball Phantom (who I'll admit can be a bit of an acquired taste) and John Riddle's serious but loving Raoul. Plus, opera voice!
Sybille Glosted: I made no secret of how great the Copenhagen revival cast was, and she was no exception. Beautiful voice, detailed, thought-out performance that just tells a narrative with gestures, responded to her fellow actors instead of just going through the motions.
Holly-Anne Hull: So many interesting details I've never seen with Christine before, plus, she's adorable.
Kanisha Marie Feliciano: Beautiful, beautiful voice, and such lovely facial expressions that give her a bit of a cinematic quality - I could easily see her transfer well from stage to screen.
Send me ❤️ and a role in a musical and I’ll give you my favorite performers in the role.

A goodbye
After almost 12 (!) years, it’s time for me to say goodbye to this blog. It will not be deleted though.
Here’s a (pretty rough and I’m sure not full) list of skaters featured here. They’re listed in alphabetical order by the first name (so “Ashley Wagner” is under “A” and not “W”). I know it’s not the correct way to do this thing but it was easier for me. Also, if you can’t find someone, try searching within the blog or just general Tumblr search.
Thank you for the company and bye!

Mack and Aaron Have a Heart to Heart.
Mackron fanfic.
"Are you two back together again?: Belle asked as Aaron and Mackenzie sat in his bar having a coffee.
"Well we're trying to mend what we broke" Mack answered "Thanks for coming Aaron. It means a lot"
"Well we need to talk" said Aaron "I've made so many assumptions about you and its messed my head up"
"I've been in a state of depression since you left Aaron" said Mack "But I agree we need to talk"
"I thought you'd moved on from me and I couldn't handle it" said Aaron. "Kristie, Aasha, Chloe,Frazer and Nicky"
"You make me sound like a serial shagger" said Mack. "You know about Kristy and Aasha they both conned me" said Mack.
"What about Chloe?" Aaron asked "Did you sleep with her?"
"Nope" said Mack "She had her own room when she lived with me and we were good company for each other" said Mack "You can ask her"
"But Frazer is another matter" said Aaron.
"Well I went to school with him and he reckons he had a crush on me" Mack explained "He came down to help his brother find Aasha"
"And he conveniently moved in with you" said Aaron.
"I asked him to move in coz he couldn't afford the B&B" said Mack "But we had separate rooms until I had my accident. He kept telling me he loved me and wanted to take our relationship further"
"So you had sex with him" said Aaron trying to control himself.
"No we never had sex until...." Mack stopped suddenly and held his hands in his head.
"Mack I'm so sorry for bringing it all up again" said Aaron "It broke me when I heard what he'd done to you"
"It was my fault" said Mack "He kept on and on saying he wanted to have sex with me but no way could I cheat on you. He started sleeping with me after my accident to help me get in and out of bed but we never had sex I swear until that night he forced himself on me. I should have given in to him, so it's my fault"
"Mack he is a rapist" said Aaron "It's not your fault and you had the right to say no"
"So you don't hate me then?" Mack asked.
"No Mack I dont" said Aaron "But I hate myself for hurting you"
"Aaron you don't know how much I needed you back then" said Mack.
"That's my biggest regret. Not being there when you needed me" said Aaron.
"I really thought we were going to make up when you asked me to the cinema" said Mack.
"That was the plan but when it all blew up with Frazer it mashed my head" Aaron explained.
"Before you ask, its another no, me and Nicky didn't sleep together" said Mack "The last person I had sex with was you Aaron. So what about you?"
"Same" replied Aaron "You were the last one"
"We're two idiots" said Mack.
"You can say that again" said Aaron "Mack I've got something to tell you"
"Oh no you don't want to get back with me" said Mack.
"No its about Frazer" said Aaron "Cain did some digging when they were questioning you about Frazer. Apparantly he was on two charges of sexual assault in Scotland that's why he came down here"
"So it definitely wasn't my fault?" said Mack.
"Will you stop saying it was you're fault" said Aaron "And by the way I owe you big time for not telling the cops I punched Frazer"
"I knew how much you dreaded going to prison again Aaron" said Mack. "So let's just draw a line under the last couple of months and start to rebuild our relationship"
"I want that more than anything" said Aaron.
"We'll have to take things slow Aaron" said Mack "Coz after what Frazer did I have lost all my confidence in the bedroom"
"Mack you're in control" said Aaron "I will get you through this and we'll take it as sliw as you need" said Aaron giving Mack a kiss. "I know how I felt after my dad did what he did to me so I understand"
"God I'm so selfish" said Mack "Youre battling your own demons"
"I've had longer than you to come to terms with it" said Aaron "I'm here for you one hundred per cent"

October Wrap-Up
The Graveyard Book - Neli Gaiman
4/5: Lovely writing as usual, and a perfect cozy tale to get into the spooky spirit. I loved the characters especially, and the style of telling individual stories was really well done. Solid read.
The Halloween Tree - Ray Bradbury
3/5: I usually love Ray Bradbury but this one just didn't thrill me. I don't know if it was just me not being in the right frame of mind but I just wasn't vibing. It had some fun moments but it was just ok for me.
Batman: Arkham Asylum- A Serious House on Serious Earth - Grant Morrison
4/5: Beautiful art by Dave McKean once again which bumps up the rating considerably for me. The writing was really nice at times if not a little too pretentious at times. Also, not being super knowledgeable about Batman previously makes it a little bit of a difficult read sometimes. Characters that aren't clearly named, etc. The plot was also a little confusing at times but honestly, I was just excited to see the art so...
If We Were Villains - M. L. Rio
3/5: This was a little meh for me. It's often compared to Secret History and it is extremely similar. I didn't connect with any of these characters as much as Secret History and it felt a little forced. I do like the use of quotes from Shakespeare being used in conversation as if it's their own words so the line between actor and character is blurred. I enjoyed those moments especially. But, otherwise, I found it predictable. Still a solid read.
Death of the Endless #1-2 - Neil Gaiman
4/5: This is a compilation of comics about Death from the Sandman series. She's my favorite character so by default, I'm going to enjoy it a lot. Most of the stories were very engaging but a few didn't hold my interest as much. Overall, had a great time.
House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski
5/5: This is one of the most unique reading experiences I've ever had and I really loved it. Was I scared? Not really. But if you love things like Cain's Jawbone, research, or puzzling, this is an excellent book. The format was totally unique and it made it hard to put down. I do feel like this is another one that really benefits from reading it multiple times (as is evident by the community for it on Reddit) but even on this read through I can see all the possible solutions to the mystery inside. I love how philosophical it got most of the time and it really delves into how we perceive horror. Some of the sections did drag a bit, but arguably, that's part of the point. This was a world I was excited to escape to. I also listened to the album his sister Poe wrote alongside the book and I highly recommend it as well. It became my favorite album to listen to this month. :)
Long Live the Pumpkin Queen - Shea Ernshaw
2/5: I gave this a very generous 2/5 which is honestly too much. I didn't like it. It has some nice writing at times but it felt rushed and forced and ugh. Also (SPOILERS) why does Sally need a backstory? And a predictable one at that? It was totally unnecessary and I just felt bored the whole time. It doesn't feel like my Nightmare Before Christmas. I feel like Disney was really pushing this one and maybe Ernshaw didn't have enough freedom or passion to make it truly good.
The Sandman Book 3 - Nell Gaiman
4/5: Excellent as always. Lots of good stories!
The Hellbound Heart - Clive Barker
3/5: This was a suggestion from my brother who loves the Hellraiser movie. I read it. I enjoyed it. It's not my usual bag and honestly, I liked basically no one in it. Kristy was nice though. I couldn't help feeling that everyone deserved exactly what they got. The mood was pretty good but I guess I was expecting there to be a bit more? It is meant to be more of a pulp horror though, so at face value, it's solid for what it is. That being said, I don't have any huge desire to read more Clive Barker.
The Yellow Wallpaper - Charlotte Perkins Gilman
5/5: Wonderful! I loved the writing, and I loved the way the story slowly progresses. I prefer a psychological horror style so this was an absolute delight. Excellent discussion on mental health, women's roles, etc. It was also a perfect size to read one morning with my coffee. This was an instant favorite and I'll be reading it again.
I read a lot more than I thought I would be able to! I have a lot more I wish I could've fit into the Halloween season so I may continue reading a few into November.

Images above:
These are all images of recent work by artist Faith Ringgold, currently on view in her solo exhibition "American People" on view for a few more days at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
From the exhibition press release:
"Artist, author, educator, and organizer Faith Ringgold is one of the most influential cultural figures of her generation, with a career linking the multidisciplinary practices of the Harlem Renaissance to the political art of young Black artists working today. Faith Ringgold: American People presents the most comprehensive assessment to date of the artist’s impactful vision. For 60 years, Ringgold has drawn from personal autobiography and collective histories to both document her life as an artist and mother and to amplify collective struggles for social justice and equity. From creating some of the most indelible artworks of the civil rights era to challenging accepted hierarchies of art versus craft, Ringgold has produced a body of work that bears witness to the complexity of the American experience.
Featuring Ringgold’s best-known series—such as her experimental story quilts, renowned painting series American People and Black Light, soft sculptures, performance objects, and ephemera related to her activist work—the exhibition examines the artist’s figurative style as it evolved to meet the urgency of political and social change. The exhibition also foregrounds her radical explorations of gender and racial identities, which the artist incorporates into the rich textures of her paintings, soft sculptures, and story quilts. Among the most important artworks of the past half century, Ringgold’s fabric works combine local traditions and global references to compose a polyphonic history of this country. The MCA’s presentation of Faith Ringgold: American People also includes a section with works from the MCA’s collection that contextualizes Ringgold’s wide-ranging practice in art history with works by artists either influenced by or in conversation with Ringgold or themes in her work. Long overdue, this retrospective provides a timely opportunity to experience the art of an American icon."

"Stop it Cain. He's sensitive" Moira replied.
"Who wants the top off my egg?"

"Right you two boys have been so good well pop into uncle Macks bar for ice cream"

"But I love him and I can help him look after baby Isla" Isaac replied.
"What about Aaron?" Moira asked who was amused and proud at the same time that her little boy loved his uncle so much.
"He can do the housework" giggled Isaac.
"We get a present as well mum" said Kyle. "Matty told me and I can't wait"

"There's definitely something on his mind" said Belle. "Let's hope he's not pining for Kristy"
"Don't think so he said he was relieved he'd got rid of her" said Moira.
"Well it could be only one other person" said Belle.
"Meena!" Both women said together.
"It's Lucy" said Kyle.
"How do you know that?" Moira asked.
"He was looking at a picture of her when we came in" said Kyle.
"Mack is there something your not telling me?" said Moira "You seem preoccupied you haven't been getting texts from Meena have you or are you thinking about Kristy?"
"None of those Moira said Mack "To be honest I was going to let it be a surprise but I know you'll start fretting"
"Of course I will" said Moira "I always worry about my little brother. Come on what's the big secret?"
"Me and Lucy have made up and she's going to be included in our blessing" said Mack.
"That's wonderful Mack" said Moira hugging her brother "I'm over the moon for you"
"Oh and by the way it's the Grand Opening and Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday" said Mack.
"Well we're not going to miss that are we boys?" Moira said.
"No" Isaac and Kyle shouted.
