These are all images of recent work by artist Faith Ringgold, currently on view in her solo exhibition "American People" on view for a few more days at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
From the exhibition press release:
"Artist, author, educator, and organizer Faith Ringgold is one of the most influential cultural figures of her generation, with a career linking the multidisciplinary practices of the Harlem Renaissance to the political art of young Black artists working today. Faith Ringgold: American People presents the most comprehensive assessment to date of the artist’s impactful vision. For 60 years, Ringgold has drawn from personal autobiography and collective histories to both document her life as an artist and mother and to amplify collective struggles for social justice and equity. From creating some of the most indelible artworks of the civil rights era to challenging accepted hierarchies of art versus craft, Ringgold has produced a body of work that bears witness to the complexity of the American experience.
Featuring Ringgold’s best-known series—such as her experimental story quilts, renowned painting series American People and Black Light, soft sculptures, performance objects, and ephemera related to her activist work—the exhibition examines the artist’s figurative style as it evolved to meet the urgency of political and social change. The exhibition also foregrounds her radical explorations of gender and racial identities, which the artist incorporates into the rich textures of her paintings, soft sculptures, and story quilts. Among the most important artworks of the past half century, Ringgold’s fabric works combine local traditions and global references to compose a polyphonic history of this country. The MCA’s presentation of Faith Ringgold: American People also includes a section with works from the MCA’s collection that contextualizes Ringgold’s wide-ranging practice in art history with works by artists either influenced by or in conversation with Ringgold or themes in her work. Long overdue, this retrospective provides a timely opportunity to experience the art of an American icon."

President Donald J. Trump Invites African American Stars to White House after Heart-to-Heart Conversation
Los Angeles - November 1, 2020 – A prominent group of African American actors and entertainers have accepted President Donald J. Trump’s invitation to visit the White House in December to work together on important issues facing the Black Community.
In a late-night night phone call with the President Saturday night, rappers Eric B. and Money-B, actor Isaiah Washington, who are among the stars in Trump vs. Hollywood, and film director Daphne Barak, all agreed to continue their discussion of economic opportunity, criminal justice reform and the President’s groundbreaking “Platinum Plan” to deliver greater opportunity, security, prosperity and fairness to their communities.
“Thirty years ago I had a conversation with Donald Trump and he told me never to be afraid to hire the best people in business, even if they have more experience than me,” said rap pioneer Eric B., a lifelong Democrat. “And that conversation has shaped my business decisions ever since. I am pleased that President Trump is willing to have this uncomfortable conversation about how we can help the black community close the wealth gap.”
“President Trump took the time to get on the phone with us after a long day with four campaign rallies and I took that to mean he cares about our concerns,” said Money-B. “It’s refreshing, and a good beginning. We want to get to work.”
“I know firsthand what the Fake News media can do to a person, and I see what they keep trying to do to President Trump,” said Isaiah Washington. “I’m now solidly with President Trump and I’m liking what I’m seeing in the results already.”
“We filmed a documentary in real time during the pandemic, and with so much going on from the coronavirus to George Floyd, we wanted to hear from both sides of the political spectrum,” said film executive producer and director Daphne Barak. “We spoke with a variety of celebrities and a common theme among many was “Can we just talk?” We are pleased that President Trump took time from his packed schedule to talk and listen. All people on the call felt that he really wants to have an open conversation with the Black community.”
The artists had just completed a sneak preview of Barak’s documentary, Trump vs. Hollywood, which is an examination of the divisions in America and an attempt to bring opposing ideologies together for a long-overdue civil discussion. Barak interviewed 24 Hollywood stars, musicians, rappers and notable figures from both sides of the political spectrum during the pandemic about their candid feelings regarding President Trump and America.
In addition to Eric B., Money-B, Isaiah Washington, and Glen “Big Baby” Davis, who was unable to join Saturday’s call but will be joining the White House meeting in December, Trump vs. Hollywood includes: musician Kid Rock, vocalist Andrea Bocelli, actor Scott Baio, actor Dean Cain, actor Robert Davi, actress Kristy Swanson, actor Kevin Sorbo, actress and author Sam Sorbo, musician Ted Nugent, actor Eric Roberts, actress and casting director Eliza Roberts, director Brett Ratner, rapper Too Short (who has also been invited to the December meeting), producer Avi Lerner, Hollywood lawyer Mark Geragos, actor and reality star Claudia Jordan, actor and reality star Lorenzo Lamas, radio host Bill Whittle, and comedian DeRay Davis.
Trump vs. Hollywood premieres on December 14 across streaming platforms including Amazon, Apple TV, and Google. For a limited time, ahead of the election, a sneak preview of Trump vs. Hollywood is available for rent on Vimeo.

These are the 32 books I read this February!
OMG I’m still in shock when I know how much I read since the last couple of months ...
Like always there are some deceptions and some surprises … here we go with my 3 stars:
- “Vertige” by Sophie Jomain: I didn’t hate it.  It was a “nice” story but no more than that - “Within The Mind” by Alice Winters: this one drove me crazy.  I didn’t understood it, it was too crazy for me.  I DNF this book. - “This Time Is Different” by Mae Wood: the main couple was ok but the son of the heroine went too far for me and it went also too fast to be real for me ... - “Real” by Katy Evans: a true deception for me.  I always was attracted to Katy Evans books … until I read this one … and I DNF it!  While the Remington could be ok, Brooke was the worst. I gave a “3″ but it was more a “2″. - “Teamplay” by Rohan Lockhart: just like the previous book I hated one of the main characters and I DNF it.  Minho was hypocrite who wanted to everyone followed his desires …  His tantrum in the middle of the book was the end for me!  The first part of the book was written in a very impersonnal way for me.  I’m not familiar with the gamers world and the writer didn”t make it easy for me …  I gave a “3″ but it was more a “2″. - “Tormented” by Esme Devlin: it was OK but too far fetched! - “When Rivals Fall” by J.L. Beck & C. Hallman: it was the second book I read by these authors.  It was a little better than “The Bet” but it wasn’t a WOAW moment. I put “3″ on Goodreads but it’s in fact a “3.5″. I gave a 4 stars to those books:
- “Les Cendres De L’Oubli” by Carina Rozenfeld - “Blessures Muettes” by F.V. Estyer - “Fired Up” by Riley Hart: it reminded me of her book “Collide” - “Focused” by Karla Sorensen - “Le Marchand De Sable tome 2″ by Gaïa Alexia: a little too much at the end. - “Tyrant” by T.M. Frazier: a very good twists … Loved the book! - “#Fate” by Cambria Hebert: always a pleasure to read the story of Trent and Drew even though it would be better if I read this book after the BearPaw Resort because some characters are there in the book.  Too bad that my boy Lordhaven didn’t say one thing or two when it was needed ... - “For Pain” by Amheliie/Amélie C. Astier - “Stillhouse Lake” by Rachel Caine: I finally read it!  It is full of suspense and if it ends one a note, it also ended with a kind of cliffanger!  Gina/Gwen reminded me of Sarah Connor in Terminator.  They are the same kind of woman: naive and innocent at first who ended up like a mama bear ready to fight and kill to survive and to protect her kids! - “The First Girl Child” by Amy Harmon: a big surprise!  I was attracted by Amy Harmon’s books for awhile and after this one, I will surely read some more!  This book was a beautiful story of love and respect especially towards women! - “Four Ever” by Sloane Kennedy - “Brutal Prince” by Logan Fox - “Drifter” by Kristy Marie: at first, I thought that this book won’t do for me … but it did!  A very beautiful, nice love story about two people who learn to survive!  I really planned to read the rest of the serie! - “Worship” and “Adore” by Ella James: I really LOVED this duology! - “The Darkest Hour” by S.M. Soto: a beautiful story over the grieving process. - “Enemies” by Tijan: I loved the main couple but the other characters … I have some difficulties with them at time. - “Bad Liar” by Lauren Rowe: I had a very interesting moment with Reed and Georgina and I’m impatient to read the second book of this trilogy which will be release next Friday!
Those following books are my stars of the month:
- “Steel Princess” by Rina Kent: did I already say that I LOVE this serie? - “Pruge A Frange” 1 & 2 by C.S. Quill: to understand more the second book and to be in the right mind, I reread the first book before I read the second one … I loved them both! - “What I’ve Done” by Melinda Leigh - “A Merciful Silence” by Kendra Elliot - “The Book Of Ivy” by Amy Engel: I FINALLY read the first book and I fell in love with it!  I’m impatient to read the second book of this duology!

Join me in Portugal for a one-week chautauqua about money and life!
In 2013, I traveled to Ecuador for a sort of experiment. Host Cheryl Reed and mastermind Jim (J.L.) Collins had organized a chautauqua, a gathering of two dozen folks who wanted to discuss financial independence, early retirement, and finding purpose. My pal Pete Adeney (better known as Mr. Money Mustache) and I joined Jim and Cheryl as presenters. We spent a week at a centuries-old hacienda talking about money and life.
Tumblr media
That first chautauqua was awesome not only for the attendee but for us presenters as well. To this day, those of us who attended that first chautauqua go out of our way to see each other as we travel the U.S. When I did my short tour of the Southeast last spring, for instance, I stopped in Kentucky to watch horse races with Amy, whom I met at that first event in Ecuador. Here we are at Keeneland:
Tumblr media
In 2014, I returned to Ecuador to present at my second chautauqua. This time, my co-presenter was David Cain, the deep thinker behind Raptitude. (If you've never read it, Raptitude is perhaps the best blog on the internet. It's all about getting better at being human.) In 2016, David and I returned for yet another Ecuador chautauqua. This time, we were joined by Leo Babauta from Zen Habits. Once again, the experience was incredible. This group bonded as a family warts and all more than any chautauqua before or since. We bonded so much, in fact, that most of us came together for a reunion in Salt Lake City this past November. We have an ongoing group video chat where we're in constant communication, and we hope to get together often in the future.
Tumblr media
Chautauqua 2019 As you might have guessed, all of this is prelude to an announcement: I'm pleased to report that I'll be returning as a speaker for Chautauqua 2019. From September 28th to October 5th, I'll be in Portugal's Douro Valley presenting on leading a purpose-filled life. It's not just me, of course. Other presenters include founder Jim Collins, Kristy and Bryce from Millennial Revolution, and Alan Donegan, founder of PopUp Business School. And it's not just this week. There are three additional European chautauqua to choose form this year. For new readers, this whole idea might seem a little strange. A bunch of people get together in a foreign country to talk about money? Are the speakers selling time shares? Is this some sort of scam? No, it's not a scam. No, we're not selling time shares. No, this isn't some ploy to get blog readers to pay for fancy vacations. These events are just what I've said: A chance for like-minded folks to get together to explore financial independence, early retirement, and living with purpose. Here's how the chautauquas work: After you register and pay for your ticket, you're responsible for booking your transportation to and from the destination city. Everything else is included in the price of the ticket. When the time arrives, you'll gather with 25-30 other attendees at whichever incredible venue you've selected. For an entire week, we attendees and presenters live together as a family. We eat, sleep, think, and party together. We attend off-site adventures together. Most of all, we talk about money together.During the week, each presenter will share a two- to three-hour talk. (Mine will be on finding purpose and happiness, of course.) Attendees also get an hour-long meeting with one of the presenters. To my mind and I suspect past attendees would back me up the real value in the chautauqua isn't the speakers. The speakers are great, don't get me wrong, but the true treasure here is the relationships you build with other attendees. In our day-to-day lives, it can be tough to find people who relate to our dreams of early retirement and financial independence. At the chautauquas, those dreams are the norm. (Here's the story of one reluctant attendee's experience.) If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, you should book your chautauqua ticket now, whether it's to join me in Portugal or to attend any of the other gatherings. I say this because tickets were announced a few days ago and they're already selling out. (In fact, there are only a handful of tickets left for Portugal!) Update: I just got word that both weeks in Portugal have sold out and that the two U.K. chautauquas are selling briskly. [embedded content] Note: If you don't want to hang out with me and/or my week is sold out, consider the U.K. chautauquas in June. Each event features Jim Collins, those Canadian kids from Millennial Revolution, and the debonair Alan Donegan. The first week (June 8th to June 15th) includes my buddy Carl from 1500 Days (and his dinosaur sidekicks). The second week includes Jillian from Montana Money Adventure, who is perhaps the nicest person on Earth. Other Events of Interest I'd be remiss if I didn't point out related events for those who are unable (or unwilling) to attend a European chautauqua. First up, this year's chautauqua in Ecuador which is now a wholly different beast than the European chautauqua events runs from November 2nd to 9th and features Vicki Robin (Your Money or Your Life), Paula Pant (Afford Anything), and Tanja Hester (Our Next Life). Last I heard, there were only a few tickets left.Although it's not official, Mr. Money Mustache and I have been kicking around the idea of hosting a chautauqua in Ecuador in 2020 possibly with David Cain from Raptitude. It's unlikely we'll make a decision for many months yet, but keep it in mind. Finally, don't overlook the weekend-long Camp FI and Camp Mustache events held across the United States and Canada. These retreats are larger than the chautauquas (50-80 people attend) and much more casual. They're also much cheaper. I've been to several in the past two years. This year, I'll be presenting at Camp FI: Southwest from October 11th to October 14th. Come join me in Joshua Tree, California! I'll also be attending Fincon in Washington D.C. in early September. Plus, as always, I'm happy to meet readers for beer or coffee when they're passing through Portland. I do this a couple of times each month and it's always fun. If you're in town and want to chat, let me know!
