i’m back with another “gentle reminders” ask. it goes in line with one of my personal goals this year of trying to work on my kindness and how i show that kindness to others.

the beginning of a new year is always a bit tough for many people, for many reasons but at the scale of the fandom, i have noticed some negativity starting to spread. maybe it’s bound to happen on any social media but i always considered tumblr to be different, to be over the kind of discourse you could find on other apps. this place has been a true haven for many of us and i would like to keep it that way, so i thought, as a way to counterbalance this negativity, i could compensate with a nice message for one of the driving forces in the fandom: our dear writers.

i would like to begin by saying thank you.  thank you for dedicating your time, your energy, your love and sharing pieces of yourself with us. the fandom wouldn’t be what it is without you: just like a body needs a brain or a heart to function properly, fandoms need writers like they need others contributing. thank you for offering diversity, engaging with different tropes and characters to reach as many readers as possible. i will admit, some things proposed are not my cup of tea but i know they can be enjoyed by others, the same way some of my favorite fics wouldn’t necessarily attract others. so thank you for giving a chance to everyone to find what they enjoy, to discover, to learn, to cry, to laugh, to love and to be able to do so in an open, safe space. thank you for interacting with us as well. thank you for responding to our questions, sharing snippets when we get impatient, teasing us with your new ideas and making life a little more fun and exciting every day. and of course, thank you for doing all of this for free. for expecting so little in return when you give us so much.

now a few things i want you to remember: 

although we’re all thankful for having access to your art, your first fan should be yourself. write what you enjoy, write that self-indulgent fic, write your favorite trope, an improbable duo or crossover because you’ve always wanted to. do it for yourself. in the same way, have fun with it. writing is a hobby, it’s not your job, it’s not supposed to be a chore. so do what makes you happy. don’t worry about updating fics, about being slow, about posting too much or too little. some things might take time, some might need an hour to be posted but in the end, they all matter just the same. they’re worth being read and cherished and we will appreciate them. whether you have thousands of notes or barely a few hundreds, you have your place here. you’re still an amazing writer, you’re still an artist regardless of the stats. 

whether i've had time to binge-read your stories or just discovered you. thank you. i love you. i’m grateful for you. i see and appreciate your work. your efforts. you.  i’m sorry if you’ve ever been received with negativity but i hope this can make up for some of it.  you deserve nothing but kindness and appreciation and i hope you know how much you matter here.

Life update

I’m still waiting on my appeal to ssi for my disability. This process has now been over a year long of trying to get on disability ssi. Every time we call we basically get no answer and on the rare time someone does answer we get told they are super backed up and my appeal for a new hearing on eligibility is still pending. My family is in a bit of a tight spot financial wise at the moment(some life things have happened that need dealt with urgently).

I recently ran out of food for Kricket. Mom helps me buy his food until I can get my ssi sorted. However with the current things going on at the moment she can’t help me atm. He is my world and has saved my life more than once and I hate that I am currently broke and can’t do this one thing for him. His food is 28 dollars and since he is a 3 pound Chihuahua it lasts him three months. I’d appreciate any help in getting it for him.

We will be back on our feet by the time a new bag runs out. But for now I need help. Thank you so much to anyone willing to help me. I appreciate it so so much. Thanks to  kind people I am 18 dollars off from affording his food.

Destiny Mills was only 20 years-old when she was murdered on March 24th, 2015. She lived in an apartment in Trotwood, Ohio at the time of her death. The circumstances surrounding Destiny's death have left her loved ones with more questions than answers, and her murder remains unsolved today. A few months before her death, Destiny began dating a new boyfriend named Michael D. Scott. According to Destiny's mother, Destiny had mentioned Michael a few times but had not introduced him to her family yet. In fact, Destiny's mother's first interaction with Michael occurred on the night Destiny was killed. That evening, Michael sent her mother a Facebook message to tell her that Destiny had been shot. She died while being transported to the hospital. By Michael’s account, Destiny was inside her apartment, lying on her couch, when "a hail of 8-10 bullets came through the wall and door." One of the bullets struck Destiny in the chest. There were reportedly other people inside the apartment as well, but Destiny was the only one to get hit by a bullet. The shooter(s) fled the scene before police arrived. Destiny's family members are suspicious of Michael's version of events, but Trotwood police are not considering him a suspect in her murder at this time. Still, in September 2015, Michael was arrested for the murder of Joshua Hamilton. Michael reportedly shot and killed Joshua while inside Kricket's Tavern in Huber Heights. In 2016, he was found guilty of those charges and sentenced to 22 years in prison. Despite all of this, police do not believe Michael was the one who shot and killed Destiny. However, they do believe that Michael might have been the intended target on the night Destiny was shot. There were reportedly up to 15 people in the apartment at the time the gunfire erupted--and there were multiple other people in and out of the apartment at various times that day as well. How Big Do Ball Pythons Get?

Actually, ball pythons do not get too big. While the hatchlings are around 10 inches in length, a full grown ball python can become 5-foot long. They can even become longer, but a 5-foot ball python is already pretty big. So it is likely that your ball python might stay a little bit smaller.

How big your ball python gets and how fast it grows highly depends on how you are feeding and how good your ball python eats. Ball pythons are known for being picky eaters. The size difference between a good eating ball python and a picky eater at the same age can be huge.

However that does not mean that you should "create" your own ball python size by feeding more or less, of course. While the ball python´s head stays rather small, their bodies can get thick, but definitely not as thick as your arm. So, it really is a rather small snake.

What Kind Of Enclosure Do You Need?

You might think now, that ball pythons need a huge enclosure. In my opinion, they need a tank that´s rather small. If you have a very small baby ball python, you can start with a long 10-Gallon tank. Although I would definitely recommend to start with a long 20-Gallon tank as the snake should have some space to stretch. Adult ball pythons need a wide 40-Gallon tank, but I recommend to go with a bigger tank, since most 40-Gallon tanks are only 36 inches in length. 48 inches in length is an okay size in my opinion.

Further you don´t have to get a glass tank. Most ball python owners keep their snake in a plastic box. It doesn´t look as beautiful as a glass tank, but it is cheaper and some think that it is easier to maintain the right humidity in it. What Does Such A Snake Eat?

If you want to know how big ball pythons get, you might also be worried about the size of their food. It is a little bit weird for beginners to feed mice and rats to a snake. I understand that and I felt the same. You definitely get used to it though.

Baby ball pythons should eat adult mice. Adult ball pythons will eat full grown rats. If this gives you a weird feeling, I recommend to get your ball python as a baby. This way, you will grow with your snake and it won´t be that hard for you to feed a full grown rat to you ball python.

You can still feed your ball python frozen rats, if you don´t want to feed them alive, however it is more natural if you feed them alive.

What You Can Do If You Want A Smaller Ball Python

If you want a ball python that stays rather small, you should definitely take a male python. Female ball pythons get 3 to 5 feet long while males only get around 3 feet long.

There are no guarantees though. There are males that get as big as females. There are females that stay as small as males. You could also get a full grown ball python with a size that you like. As I said, growth depends on how well the python eats.
