Okay, the Dunkin near me had ‘kolache’ on their menu. My stepdad is 2nd generation Czech so I was fucking ready.

But they are just gloridied pigs in a blanket. Not yeasty pastry with a fruit center! 😭

Did some research and apparently at least in Texas the blanket pigs are what they refer to using ‘kolache’. Got me curious

hey what kind of bug is this? it made a super loud buzzing sound when it flew towards me (THREE TIMES) and ended up chillin on the porch afterwards. it didn't really move after it sat down so i got some (hopefully?) clear pics of it. i don't think it's a roach or palmetto bug bc it doesnt have the same antennae, and it charged me instead of running away as palmettos usually do. im located in florida btw

It's a scarab beetle, likely one of the May or June beetles in the subfamily Melolonthinae but I couldn't say which species from these photos. They are harmless but love to buzz around loudly and smash into things. It didn't charge you, it just had no idea you should be avoided.

Dear Gus & Magnus,

Today was candy-making day on the Compound. I am always an advocate for less candy and more baked goods, especially kolaches, so this year Nana gave Mom and me a lesson in how to make them while everyone else dipped things in chocolate.

As always, you two had a ball with your cousins, which makes me incredibly happy.

After everyone loaded up to leave, Nene wanted to take you to Daniel Park to run under the lights, so we did that for a while and then stopped for Mexican food on our way out of town. It was a good day, but a long one. I was astounded that neither of you fell asleep on the way home.
