Did you know that the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee had a giant rotating Rubik's Cube right outside the Hungarian pavilion?

The Rubik's Cube was invented in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Ernő Rubik. The first Rubik's cubes were sold in 1980, and the toy's popularity skyrocketed in the years following its release.

The 1982 World's Fair, themed "Energy Turns the World," featured pavilions and exhibits from twenty-two countries, including Hungary. Local workers built a six-foot-square rotating Rubik's Cube to be set up in front of the Hungarian pavilion and completed the replica just days before the Fair opened. The cube was marketed as the "World's Largest Rubik's Cube. Ernő Rubik himself visited the Fair, and the University of Tennessee hosted a reception for Rubik. When the Fair ended, the Hungarian government gave the Cube as a gift to the University of Tennessee.

The Rubik's Cube remains the world's bestselling game and bestselling toy. Today, you can see the Rubik's Cube from the '82 World's Fair on display at the Knoxville Convention Center.

So. Today after dropping off Ariel my Honey Bunny actually went to discover a new coffee shop around town. Luckily she found a found a good one on the other side of the river. Grandpa Greg and Kalaa made it to Crow Fair!! They got the Teepee up today and im sure had a great time with Myrna!! After work I mowed the backyard until the batteries ran out. Which took me back pretty far just not all the way. Anyways, Ariel wants to make Baguettes so I'm giving it a shot. I don't have the "Lame" or the "Couche" I'm supposed to have to make it the "right way" but we do what we can. That's all for today. Darius Stewart is a Knoxville native and published three chapbooks previously, and now @eastoverpress has collected them into a single volume. Many of these poems describe life in Knoxville intermingled with questions of father/son relationships, the low drumbeat of alcoholism, the struggles of living as a black gay man in the south, and the double edged beauty of family. The poems show a side on Knoxville rarely discussed and do so with surprising sustained power. Glad to have read it and to add another excellent Knoxville voice to my shelves.
