ah yah basically its very early stages but i have an early medieval fantasy story where children left to die in the woods are revived by fungi (i was specifically thinking about the concept of changelings and of all the ways marginalised children have been left to die for superstitious reasons and the kind of resentment that would create for survivors)

It should be a shock that Claude still got allowed to be invited to parties. For someone who had gotten in trouble wherever she went, she still hadn't gotten banned.

Technically, she would do something drastic to be prevent any offer of invitations. However, she wouldn't do it unless she went to a stranger's party.

She did mostly attended parties where any close friend of hers hosted it. Whether it's Cisco or Jing-Fei, she only went with a purpose to catch up with her friends.

Having long-distance friendships could be a challenge. Travelling to outer space had been more frequent than staying at her home in San Francisco. Yet she relished how the effort paid off in her experience. Knowing her friends had things going on made her proud.

They might be busy, however, she did her best to communicate. Check in on them whenever they might be virtually active. Sending texts in between of some 'jobs' and travels.

So, if she would go to a party, it would be for them. Even though, she didn't do much. Just observing others dance, drink, or party, basically.

Claude didn't dance much unlike in her early twenties prior to the accident. She drank in very specific occasions, preferably avoiding it whenever she could.

However, things could get a bit too much and she began sneaking off when it did. Retreating to a vacant room that didn't have any crowd. Trying to let her mind drift into any random thought.

Having a companion to sneak off with proved to be a bonus. That way, she could have a one-on-one conversation without any noise to disrupt it. Or sharing a silence, basking in each other's company.

To sneak out of a party completely. . . she did it rarely. As long as she dropped some hints before walking out. She did it if there hadn't been much going on to stick around for.

Yeah, she snuck off whenever she knew she could or felt like it.

TGGT chapter 3!

"An Invitation"

Seonghwa and Travis tote me over to a table like a handbag, the surface laden with glasses and bottles and a vase utterly overwhelmed by the bouquet springing from its neck. A drink is thrust into my hands, champagne bubbling up to my nose, and I take a step back to orient myself, looking around the room. 

It’s such a lavish, bohemian space. Velvets and worn brocades slump over the spindly couches, tasseled blankets dripping to the floor. Beads clack against an alcove of mirrors that looks like an abandoned makeup station, currently occupied by a woman perched with crossed legs, curling a hand under the chin of the person across from her. Music whinges out from a turntable on a rickety brass stand, its legs fluting up to support the blooming horn.

HERMIONE: A lot of people forget my mother had a daughter. It’s like that old riddle: My mother has four children, their names are North, South, and East. What is the fourth child’s name? Of course, my mother only has the one child. Or she has two; One sired by Theseus when my mother was a child. But that daughter would be dead by now, and so she has one. Or she has four; Three more sons sired by Menelaus. But they weren’t her children after all, they belonged to concubines. What is a concubine but a wife? Some say Paris sired four children in Ilion. A daughter. Three sons. Almost a mirror of the progeny she left in Sparta. The hypothetical progeny. I am the only one who is real; I am the only one who is speaking. They will all die before my mother comes home. And that is almost like they never existed at all.

Iffy didn’t realize the razor had turned off until a big hand gently petted the top of her now bare head. She flinched. “Is it bad?” she asked in a wobbly voice. Nate moved his hand from her head to her cheek, and with his other hand signed, “You’re beautiful.” She turned to D, who was standing proudly with his hands on his hips, and GerBear, who was grinning brightly. “I know this is gonna sound weird,” D said, “but you have a really nice skull.” Iffy snorted. “What?” “You do!” D flapped his hands around for a few seconds, as if trying to whack the words he was looking for out of the air. “I just mean. When I shaved my head, there were divots and stuff. But you don’t have that. Your skin is so smooth and pretty.” A smirk pulled at Iffy’s mouth, and D threw his hands in the air. “Fine, don’t take my awesome compliment! Your skull is stupid! Is that better?”

DRAGONSONG: worldbuilding intro: cool new knight stuff!

i should make more posts about the knights. a lot of work went into that. but for now: the newest stuff! (all subject to change, but i wanted to share)

in this post i discussed the barrier spell and the fact that the continent’s dragons are currently locked away and being experimented on. the current king is especially interested in that.

(tw below for mentions of needles and injection)

also, relatedly, i watched The Witcher recently...

so what’s the king been up to?

he wants to empower his fighting force. why? i’ll work that out eventually. but in the meantime he’s kind of using his fighting force as a police force, which has Issues.

off the back of his experimentation, the king is essentially mutating his knights. all of the newer knights, and any older knights working in the citadel or the castle, have had this done to them. a number of older resident knights have not.

what does it mean for the knights?

knights with the mutation are faster, and have the capacity to become stronger more easily than they might otherwise (and with a higher ‘maximum’ strength)

they also recover from injuries much faster than civilians, taking days or weeks to recover from an injury that might otherwise take months. further, they scar much less easily. 

in addition, they are more durable than their civilian counterparts; for example, in the first chapter Isi takes a dragon tail blow to the torso. the same blow dealt to Isi and Sierra would probably leave Sierra with broken ribs; Isi is mostly just bruised.

small downside though... the mutation has to be injected, and not just once. after a certain amount of time (to be decided) the body starts to treat it like poison. so it has to be administered regularly. without it ... Isi doesn’t know of anyone who knows for sure, but it gets unpleasant. she’s definitely heard rumours of people who’ve died from withdrawal. either way, at least in the citadel, it’s impossible to skip a dose and go unnoticed by knight supervisors.

that’s the main stuff. but as always, it’s not the full extent of my Thoughts (mostly because this has Implications for several arcs), so... i can probably be convinced to infodump more in the future

i'mma select to give a treat for ya. :3

for some wip/oc trivia: one of the most exciting things i look forward to writing loasti are characters with dual nationalities. since i have that irl, i implemented it in hwan and nijiko, who're both japanese-korean respectively. i'll probably add non-english dialogue into teh mix too.

still, brainstorming those bits, and for the first chapters, hwan's going to compare parts of enverade to tokyo. from the different famous landmarks to restaurants, she'd miss it.
