What Maxon actually meant during that scene in The One:
King Clarkson: If she’s dumb enough to want that, then good riddance. She was supposed to give me an answer about those announcements anyway, and if she’s not willing, then she can stay home.
Maxon: She said she would (read: would not). She told (read: didn’t tell me sh*t) me earlier tonight.
King Clarkson: About time. As soon as she returns, we’ll get her in the studio. i want this done by the New Year.
Maxon: I want to go with her.
King Clarkson: Like h*ll you will!
Maxon: We’re down to four (read: THE ONE), Father. That girl might (read: will) be my wife (read: my one and only). Am I supposed to send her alone (read: I will marry her and love her till death do us part. I don’t care what you say.)?
King Clarkson: Yes! If she dies, it’s one thing. If you die, it’s a whole other issue. You’re staying here!
Maxon: I am not a commodity (read: You ass.)! And neither are they (read: is she)! I wish for once you would look at me and see a person (read: your ACTUAL son).

The Selection Oneshot- Dancing in the rain
Lila was on her way to bring tea to the women’s room as she saw King Maxon running there. She tried to keep the tray she was holding balanced as the king ran pass her and she tripped.
The king apologized to Lila, and after two seconds he continued running to the women’s room- where he knew his wife will be.
Maxon stopped by the door, trying to regulate his breathe as fast as possible.
The officer by the door was Aspen, of course, who tried not to laugh at the rushing king.
“Can I get in?” Maxon asked as he breathed regularly again.
“Wait, I need to ask” Aspen said with a smile on his face, trying not to laugh. As Lila came, he grabbed her shoulder. “Can you ask the Queen if the King can come in?” He asked her, and Lila nodded.
Lila came in and served the tea to America and her friends, and just before she left she remembered Aspen’s request. “My Queen, can the King come in?” Lila whispered in her ear.
America giggled at the request. She still found the way men can come in the women’s room funny. “Yes, he can” she told Lila with a smile on her face.
Only a minute later, Maxon broke in to the women’s room and went stright to America, with a smile smeared across his face and shiny eyes. “Would you come with me, my dear? It’s raining”
America’s face suddenly had a similar look to the one on her husband’s face. She grabbed his hand and ran with him along the halls.
They reached the roof, and America leaned backwards and laughed as Maxon wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close. She straightened up as the laugh faded on her lips, putting her hand on Maxon’s shoulder as he took her hand in his.
They started dancing to the sound of the rain around them. They got wet to the bone, of course, and they were probably going to be sick, but they couldn’t care less. It was raining and they were together, dancing on the roof, kissing and laughing.
Maxon turned America around, then pulled her back to him and kissed her. Ugh, the kisses. Since their wedding they were kissing as if every kiss can be their last one. But anyways, back to the story.
America smiled into the kiss and broke it with a giggle. She looked into Maxon’s eyes, the same chocolate-brown eyes she dived into so many times; and he looked into America’s eyes, the same ice-blue eyes he was amazed by so many times, and saw as a cool contrast to her hair.
America’s smile faded slowly, and she leaned her head on his shoulder. Maxon followed her lead and leaned his forhead on her shoulder, taking in her scent and the wormth of her wet skin. They kept moving in circles like that for long minutes, until Marlee, Lucy and Brice came out and took some pictures of them. (Marlee and Lucy took the pictures, Brice just came to call Maxon back to his office)
“I think we should go now” Maxon whispered in America’s ear when he strightened up.
America shook her head on his shoulder. This was one of the moments she wanted to last forever.
“If you let me go now we’ll have more time later” Maxon said quietly.
America took her head up from his shoulder. “I’ll let you go if you carry me back in” she said with a little challenge in her eyes. They were standing there for a few minutes looking into each other’s eyes, trying to see who gives up first.
“Deal” Maxon said eventually. America had a satisfied smile on her face as Maxon lifted her to his arms, just like he did after Anne sewed her gunshot wound back then.
Maxon let her down as he reached the women’s room, smiling. “Thank you for this pleasure, my dear. I’ll see you soon”
America laughed at his formal tone and pulled him down from the collar of his shirt to kiss him. They stayed like this until Aspen cleared his throat, reminding them they had other things to do.
America smiled as she came back to the women’s room, and Maxon smiled as he headed back to his office.
Rainey days were special for them, and they won’t stop the tradition of going up to the roof and dance there when it’s raining.

I’ve just finished re-reading The Selection for the I-don’t-know-th time and I’m in tears.
HOW IS ANYONE SUPPOSE TO LIVE-LAUGH-LOVE WHEN MAXON SCHREAVE, THE KING MAXON SCHREAVE SAYS, “Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyways.”
Like I’m not okay, I shall only ever be okay when I get someone like Maxon and they say this to me.

Open Starter- based on the selection series
Tumblr media
[the book series is basically a dystopian world were to keep the people at bay from their numbered classes and corresponding jobs. The male heir have a pool of woman with which he will choose a bride. They live and learn. Some prince’s may take advantage, but maxon is worried. For this starter, you are one of his favorites even as his father berates him when they are alone for the lover classes]
Tumblr media
Maxon found the woman positively delightful in a way he had been surprised to enjoy. She had the face of an angel and the tongue of a dragon. Airbrushed features, bright understanding eyes, and the tiny glint of mischief dancing across her face. This girl treated him like a person instead of the heir to a throne. He had never been able to stay out of his studies and shadowing his father. The Schreave heir struggled not to zero in on her painted lips as she took in one of the cherry tarts they had discussed. The rules of station had not allowed her trousers in leisure. The deal had been stricken that she would send some of the treats to their family home. If they thought it was better than that of her mother and smiled the way she described, he would ensure they relented. this beautiful, kind woman was another quotation marks. Her by station and place in the society and him by duty and the scars down his back from his father to make him a better king. They through in some fives to help keep peace though in the few times an heir was given centuries upon centuries past before one was even considered. The people found her endearing though as people went home- there was bated breath on why he chose her and to stay close to her. “I can see you like my gift. i won’t call you ‘my dear’ after the last time you stepped on my toes for it. I missed your company most of today. “

Diplomatic Duties
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I do not own the canon characters. They belong solely to Kiera Cass in her wonderful word she has created for us as readers. No monetary gain is being made from this drabble.
 -------------------------------
The meetings are starting to last nearly twice as long as they used to, and America Schreave is at her wit’s end. She almost feels like slamming her head against the oak table they are sitting at with many of the kingdom’s advisors. Almost. The late Queen Amberly would surely sadly look down on America for that transgression.
“Whatever is the matter, my love?” Maxon whispers as he uses one of his truly massive hands to squeeze America’s thigh under the table and underneath her expansive dress.
“It seems like all we’ve done this month is attend these meetings with our advisors,” America gently sighs, settling one of her hands atop Maxon’s before giving it a squeeze. “I thought there’d be a lot more varied diplomatic duties to do as Queen,” she admits softly, thinking back to all the training she did with Sylvia during the Selection.
“There will be in time, America,” Maxon assures, keeping his own voice a whisper where the advisors think they are still entirely paying attention and not having a side discussion. “There will be parties, foreign dignitary meetings, holding court with the citizens, working on producing an heir…”
 ---------------------
When Maxon pauses at the last suggestion, both America and Maxon begin grinning wildly at that particular duty.
“I rather like that last part,” America smirks, her cheeks flushing scarlet as she stares upwards at her devastatingly handsome husband. “Since that is equally important to the kingdom, might we be excused from the rest of the meeting?” she suggests.
“That is the best idea I have heard all day,” Maxon admits, his eyes practically glowing with desire for his wife. “I’m sorry, gentlemen, but Her Majesty America must go to attend another diplomatic duty. We most likely will be tied up in this activity for a few hours!”
Maxon pulls America by her hand, leading her urgently towards their room. America’s hand is in his hair and the two are passionately kissing before the bedroom door completely closes.
 -----------------------
Author’s Note: These two are just so tender with each other that every time they had a scene together in the first three books I nearly squealed with delight! (I still have to read The Heir, The Crown, and Happily Ever After, so no spoilers please!) I was thinking of how overwhelming becoming the new King and Queen must be for Maxon and America and then this drabble was born. We all know that the particular duty alluded to would definitely be their favorite and that they will spend plenty of time and effort trying to fulfill that need for the kingdom. 😉 I hope you all enjoyed this little drabble. Reviews, likes, or kudos are always appreciated. Until next time, dear readers! Have an amazing day, afternoon, or evening!

America makes a big presentation on 'we should abolish castes' and like. Girl I am WITH you but I hate to say that the king going 'and what's your plan for that' was not an unreasonable question. American literally says "Oh I don't know."
GIRL.
Anyway she goes to read GI's journal aloud and the king stops the filming, has all the cameras pointed at the ground, and says he wants her gone and orders Amberly to return the journal.
“You can’t send her home. That’s my choice, and I say she stays,” Maxon responded calmly.
“Maxon Calix Schreave, I am the king of Illéa, and I say—”
“Could you stop being the king for five minutes and just be my father?” Maxon yelled. “This is my choice. You got to make yours, and I want to make mine. No one else is leaving without my say so!”
Literally bro you are the worst. That's what you've got? "No you can't send her home she's MY TOY"
SHE WANTS TO GO HOME. SHE TOLD YOU SO THREE TIMES.
It's not like the king is ordering her killed or anything jesus

Lesson Number 368: They really do grow up too fast
Tumblr media
-Table of Contents
The palace felt more hectic than it had for his own wedding. People rushed around him as if he wasn’t there, scrambling to put together all of the last minute preparations. Maxon fidgeted nervously with the sleeves of his suit, straightening out his jacket for the thousandth time.
There was a sudden chorus of chatter and footsteps moving in his direction. A flurry of women bustled around him, and at the end of it, stood his beautiful wife and his stunning daughter- her white dress instantly bringing tears to his eyes.
“Eadlyn, you look…” He couldn’t find a word that could even begin to describe how his only daughter looked on her wedding day.
“Don’t you dare cry.” She swallowed hard, the lump in her throat growing as tears filled her eyes. She threw herself into his arms, both trying desperately to keep those pesky tears from spilling out. “Daddy, if you make me ruin this makeup before I even walk down the aisle, I’ll never speak to you again.” She laughed, pulling away and dabbing moisture away with her fingers.
“I will try my best.” Maxon promised, kissing her forehead.
“Come on you two.” America smiled. “We wouldn’t want to be late.”
“What are they going to do, start without her?” Marlee teased. The group chuckled and everyone headed out to the cars. Most of the men, aside from Maxon of course, were already on the road. Aspen led the group- the most trusted guard to assure that the Queen was escorted without a hitch.
Maxon had also teasingly charged him with the duty of making sure Eikko didn’t make a run for it- a request that America didn’t find as amusing. The two former monarchs walked at the back of the huddle, fingers laced together and smiles on their faces.
“Two children married.” Maxon mused, shaking his head in disbelief.
His wife groaned. “Don’t remind me.” He nudged her playfully.
“I guess there’s no avoiding it anymore.” He sighed, glancing over at her with a smirk. “We’re getting old.” America laughed and laid her head on his shoulder.
“Yes. Yes we are.”
-
The church was surrounded by photographers and journalists, the barricades barely able to contain them. Aspen instructed the guards at the doors to watch the crowd as he helped the queen out of the car.
“Your Majesty! Can we get a smile?”
“Your Majesty, who made your dress?”
“Maxon, how is life without the crown?”
They shuffled quickly past the shouting press until finally reaching the large church doors. As soon as the doors were closed the chaotic noise was replaced by a tense silence. Marlee and the rest of the group all gave Eadlyn enthusiastic smiles before going in to take their seats.
“Oh god this is actually happening.” Eadlyn gasped, her eyes widening as she caught a glimpse of the packed church. Unfortunately, she couldn’t see Eikko. If she had, it might have eased her nerves. Instead, her hands started to shake. America put a hand on her arm.
“You’ll be fine. As soon as you get down that aisle, everything will fall into place.” She assured her, kissing her cheek before joining the others inside.
“That’s assuming I’ll make it down the aisle.” She huffed anxiously. Maxon chuckled, holding out his arm for her to take.
“Don’t worry. I’ve got you.”
She held her head high, pushed her shoulders back and nodded. The guards grabbed the handles of the door for the Queen’s entrance but Eadlyn stopped them abruptly.
“I think I’m going to be sick.”
Eadlyn pushed away from her father and ran- as fast as she could in that dress- into the bathroom.
Maxon gulped. “Oh dear.”
The guards stared at him, wide eyed, waiting for instructions. Nobody knew what to do in this situation, least of all the father of the bride. Maxon hurried to the bathroom door and knocked gently.
“Eadlyn, dear, are you alright?” Instead of a response, he could only hear the occasional cough and dreadful groan from the other side. He muttered under his breath. “Of all the days… Alright, sweetheart, I’m coming in.”
Fortunately, photographers were not allowed in the back of the church, so there would be no shots of the former king running into the women’s restroom.
Maxon peaked his head inside and found Eadlyn hunched over the sink wiping her mouth with a towel. She turned to him with terror and embarrassment in her eyes.
“What am I going to do?” She cried, desperately trying to keep the tears from falling. “I don’t know how to do this. I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“Oh, darling, come here.” Maxon sighed, pulling her into his arms. She buried her face in his chest and he tucked her head under his chin, careful not to undo the hours of work put into styling her hair.
As he held her, his mind traveled back. He thought of the first night he held her like this, her head snuggled against him as she slept on his chest. It was the night that America reminded him who he was. And here he stood, the same little girl wrapped in his arms, only now she was grown into more than a beautiful young woman- she’d grown into a queen. She’d grown into a bride and he was tasked with walking her down an aisle to another man that would make her as she always deserved to be.
He wasn’t able to stop the tears now, no matter how hard he wished it. His darling girl had finally found the joy that he always wanted for her and she was too scared to take it.
“Daddy, you promised.” Eadlyn laughed through her own tears, trying to dab them away as they fell.
“I know, I’m sorry.” He grinned, wiping his cheeks with his palm. “I’m just so happy… And sad. I never knew that you could be both at once.” He cupped her face in his hands and looked into the eyes of the same, determined and fiery woman he’d come to admire so much. “You can do this. More than that, you deserve this. Eikko is a good man and he is your match in every way. I wouldn’t have let you settle for anything less than that.”
Her lip quivered and she threw her arms around his neck again. “Thank you.”
The two stayed like that for a while until America popped her head in the door.
“What are you two doing?” She exclaimed. “The ceremony is supposed to start any second.” It only took her a moment to notice her daughter’s pale face and the towels scattered around the sink. Her expression softened and she put a hand to her cheek. “Are you alright? Are you sick?”
“Just a case of the jitters, that’s all.” Maxon smiled, kissing the top of Eadlyn’s head. She gave him a slightly more confident smile and nodded.
“I think I’m ready now.”
She laced her arm through his once more and the two followed America back out to the doors.
“Just remember,” Maxon whispered, choking up again. “You will always be Queen Eadlyn Schreave.”
“And no one is as powerful as me.” She added with a grin.
The two started down the aisle- the former King and the current Queen- as merely a father and daughter. Eadlyn locked eyes with Eikko and finally a calm rushed over her. Maxon looked to America, standing with their three other beautiful children. She gave him a wide, proud smile before slowly reaching up and tugging her ear. He laughed lightly, wiping away a fallen tear before returning the action.
This was his happily ever after.

To begin this post, I’ll quote Maxon here from the Elite, “I had a thought.” Or maybe a few. Yeah, that’s more accurate when it comes to my sort of pondering. So, in terms of King Clarkson, as a fandom, I think we can collectively agree that had he been alive, he would have made life really difficult for America and Maxon as a married couple. Although, I feel like we never fully let ourselves imagine the extent it could go to; sure, some fanfics delve into those realms of possibilities but it’s only surface level. Look, I’m definitely not shaming anyone, I didn’t really think of this topic too often or that much, either, until now given how terrible it is but I just wanted to open up the conversation to see the community’s thoughts.
First of all, I really think that getting to the wedding itself would have been a challenge especially if Clarkson continuously pushed the matter of those New Year’s announcements on America. There would have been literally no peace after the engagement with that going on. I think that he would’ve also harassed Maxon often about the final choice, making his displeasure known at every impasse and at the slightest mistake that sent him raging, he would cane him more harshly. All to get his anger out at Maxon’s supposed incompetence, his future daughter-in-law, and all her flaws and mistakes, too. I bet that he would also try to keep his son as busy as possible to keep him and America separated and in addition, intimidate her as much as he could every spare moment.
Now, with the case of America’s marriage to Maxon, that would bring about a whole new set of problems. I’m sure that he’d try to put off stepping down for as many years as he could but even with their ascension, he would keep a tight leash on Maxon. It wouldn’t be surprising if he made threats to his son about his wife’s safety and that would make Maxon heel every time just to keep the peace, making his decisions stringent and very much not his own. They’d be spineless. Essentially he’d be a king with no power, a puppet leader being pulled by strings. Oh, and the abuse would continue being bad, if not worse, in regards to where America would be involved with making certain changes. Clarkson would likely be enraged at her being more included in such decision-making because ain’t no way that Maxon wouldn’t do exactly that. He’s done that sort of thing in the books, this wouldn’t be a new thing to see during their marriage.
Then, we get to the next gen. Of course, America and Maxon would still be monitored for their procreating abilities but I feel like this would be some next level spying and maybe even some sort of intervention on Clarkson’s part if the baby was revealed to not be a boy. We know of Amberly’s miscarriages and I’m sure we all believe that there is still something suspicious about them despite the explanation we got about the toxins because of where she lived. There is speculation here and there that Clarkson may have poisoned her to induce miscarriages if the babies were girls and if this was something he did to his own wife, he definitely wouldn’t have been above doing it again to his daughter-in-law. Given that we also know that he abused Maxon after he found out about his affair which resulted in an illegitimate daughter and that he was cheating on Amberly, who knows what he would have done to his son this time around if it was uncovered that he poisoned America? This man is shown to go to great lengths to keep something incriminating against him quiet, whether that be family or not. But let’s move on from that.
Say Clarkson didn’t care whether they had a bunch of children that included daughters and sons, he would still likely prefer that the first born is a son but more so, he would be concerned with the fact that the next heir should be a male child as by tradition. The grandchild he’d want to lead the country after Maxon as hereditary heir to the throne would be any boy and that would possibly translate to favoritism bias based on gender. If the twins were still born in this alternate scenario, the likely version of events to follow would be that Ahren would be favored and Eadlyn would be disowned as heir even though she’s older. Actually, I don’t believe that it would just be the case with Ahren being the favorite, I’m sure that any of America and Maxon’s sons would be liked better by their grandfather, meaning Kaden and Osten would all be better treated by Clarkson than Eadlyn, just Ahren would get more attention because he would be the crown prince. Because Eadlyn is a princess, by this timeline, her fate would be to marry off to foreign royalty as per Illéan tradition and though I have a feeling that America and Maxon would have been able to abolish that law even with Clarkson around, he would oppose this action greatly. It would make him resent his granddaughter severely, neglecting her when it comes to spending time with all his grandchildren and in the case that he got involved with training her as Illéa’s first queen regnant, he would take every opportunity to belittle her, the situation becoming reminiscent to that of Maxon’s days as prince minus the canings. Anyways, in the other scenario where he got his way and Eadlyn wasn’t made heir but rather Ahren, Maxon would have had extensive arguments with his father about it regardless but caved. Although, he would have fought Clarkson in terms of marrying her off and tried to still set up a way for his daughter to have a role in the monarchy when she was older. Otherwise, Eadlyn’s childhood would have still been rough with Clarkson around and similarly he would be displeased with her but on a lesser scale because there was a crown prince and not a crown princess to take over.
In short, Clarkson would have made America and Maxon’s lives a living hell along with that of their daughter’s. I’m just happy we don’t have that as canon in the books. It’s for the best that Clarkson was dead when Maxon married America in the end because I think there would have been twice as many obstacles for them to face and even though Maxon would have been married to the love of his life, he would be unhappy and unnecessarily pressured due to the constant circumstances of his wife and children being under threat by his tyrant of a father. Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading.
