Fareed Gate,Bahawalpur The Name Fareed Gate was Given due to The eminent Sufi poet of the subcontinent Khwaja Ghulam Farid as he spent eighteen years in the desert of Cholistan and composed dozens of poems related to the beauty of Rohi. Khwaja Ghulam Fareed, a well-known spiritual personality of Indo-Pak and a popular Sufi poet, was born on 3 December in 1845 in Chacharan Shareef, Rahim Yar Khan district, a small town located on the Indus bank in Southern Punjab. The town is commonly known as Kot Fareedan (town of Fareed). Khawaja Ghulam Fareed’s poetry speaks of love, humanism, tolerance, peace and spirituality.He wrote two collections of poetry, one of them being in Urdu and the other one in many languages chief among them being Punjabi and Saraiki.He remains the greatest Sufi Saint of the Chishtia lineage of Sufism. Among his disciples were the Nawab rulers of independent Indian states. Chief among them were Nawab of Tonk, Rajasthan and Ahmed Akhtar Ali Gorgani grandson of the King Bahadur Shah Zafar. But he had a special liking for Nawab Sadiq Mohammad Abbasi, the Nawab of Bahawalpur State. There are many stories related to their mutual affiliation. He emphasized the local culture and even his most elated poems are written in the context of local culture. Samiullah Chaudhry MPA called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office to discuss different matters.

Layyah's MPA Lala Muhammad Tahir Randhawa called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office to expound on the development schemes.

The CM pointed out that a comprehensive development package has been framed for every backward district and added that elevation of Chowk Azam as tehsil will be reviewed. Work is in progress to carve out new districts and tehsils while a universal health coverage program has been initiated in Layyah which is a great boon for the impecunious strata. The parliamentarians are my lieutenants and no one will be allowed to hinder the solution of genuine problems, he emphasized. The people of Layyah were beguiled through tall claims but the incumbent government will fulfill the agenda of composite development by spending resources on the development of deprived areas, he continued. Provincial Minister Nauman Langrial, MPAs Abdul Haye Dasti and Kh. Dawood Sulemani met with Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office to discuss their constituency related problems.

Talking on this occasion, the CM stated that his doors are open to all, adding that PTI is fully united under the leadership of PM Imran Khan. Politics of revenge is not a policy of the government and no injustice will ever be done with anybody, he maintained. We all belong to Tehrik-i-Insaf and fully believe in the dispensation of justice, he continued.

The CM regretted that the opposition tried to score points and pointed out that its three-year record is contrary to the national interest. In fact, the opposition parties have wreaked havoc with the national interest on every occasion, the CM concluded.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has sought a report from RPO Sheikhupura about an incident of torturing and unleashing dogs on the polio team by housing scheme staff and a house owner of SA Garden Housing Scheme. The police have arrested house owner Adil Ejaz, employees Kazim Abbas and Tauqeer Abbas after registration of the case against them. The CM has termed the incident highly condemnable, as well as intolerable, and directed to take special measures to protect polio teams. He has also directed strict action against the accused.

CM CHAIRS 7TH WALLED CITY OF LAHORE AUTHORITY MEETING TO REVIEW PROGRESS

LAHORE, September 24:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired the 7th meeting of the Walled City of Lahore Authority at his office to review progress.

The meeting was told that a ceremony will be held in Lahore in November to declare Lahore and Baku city of Azerbaijan as twin cities. The establishment of the heritage institute was approved in principle along with the approval of extension in the contract of DG WCLA Kamran Lashari. The meeting reviewed implementation on the master conservation plan and deliberated upon proposals to shift the rim market outside the city.

Three years performance report was presented before the meeting and DG WCLA Kamran Lashari briefed that six projects have been completed while ten other projects valuing Rs. 50 crore are under completion adding that four projects are in progress including restoration of dilapidated historic buildings of the walled city. The drainage system has been restored with four billion rupees with assistance from France and WCLA will also carry out historic buildings’ restoration projects in Zhob, Mardan and Muzaffarabad, he added.

Chief Secretary, ACS, chairperson heritage conservation board of WCLA Yousaf Salahuddin, commissioner Lahore, secretaries of auqaf and information departments, consultant of Aga Khan Cultural Services Pakistan and others attended the meeting.

The meeting made an in-principle decision to bring Badshahi Mosque under the purview of WCLA. The CM gave in-principle approval to restore the historic grandeur of Bhatti Gate adding that WCLA will revamp Badshahi Mosque, Bibi Pak Daman, Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya, Hazrat Shah Rukan-e-Alam, Hazrat Shah Shams Tabrez and Khawaja Ghulam Fareed. Similarly, historic worship places, including that of minority communities, will also be restored in different cities by the WCLA. It will carry out Dilkash City in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Multan, Muridke and Faisalabad while historic Bradley Hall in Lahore and Barkat Ali Khan Hall will be opened after necessary repair work. The CM directed to take steps for opening Roshnai Gate to the public and further directed to restore the hundred-year-old building of DC office Sargodha. The restoration work on the mausoleum of Mir Chakar Azam Rind in Okara be expedited and the park, museum and shops be established around it, he added.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar met with the bereaved heirs of martyred police constables Muhammad Afzal and Muhammad Imran at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh and extended sympathies to them.

The CM offered Fateha for the departed souls and sympathised with the bereaved families. He announced to provide employment and education to the children of the martyrs and the shaheed package will also be given to the martyrs' families. The CM directed the IG to complete formalities for hiring Ms Hafza Afzal, the MSc Chemistry daughter of martyred constable Muhammad Afzal. He also consoled Naziran Bibi, mother of Muhammad Imran, and said every police official is your son and further assured the heirs that the Punjab government will extend full support to them.

Later, the CM visited Jinnah Hospital to inquire after the injured police officials. He presented flowers to the injured officials and directed to provide the best medical facilities to constable Rizwan Ali who is almost paralysed due to the torture of the protesters. Every effort should be made for the treatment of Rizwan Ali as I want to see him standing on his feet, the CM directed. He also inquired after injured constables Muhammad Amin, Muhammad Farooq and Hakim Ali. Hakim Ali thanked the CM and vowed to return to his job for protecting the life and property of the people. The CM appreciated the sacrifices and passion of police officials adding that the nation salutes them. The police martyrs package will be further honed, he added. The treatment of the injured will be fully monitored and the best healthcare facilities will be provided, he said. Punjab remained peaceful today and the Jumma prayer was offered peacefully due to the sacrifices of the police. The valour and commitment of police are praiseworthy, he further said.

CM CHAIRS MEETING OF CABINET STANDING COMMITTEE FOR FINANCE

LAHORE, April 16:

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired the meeting of the cabinet standing committee for finance to decide about the release of funds to development projects.

The meeting was told that 6 metallic roads projects will be completed at a cost of 19 crore rupees in Lahore. The meeting, in principle, approved to develop four model graveyards in Lahore through Shehr-e-Khamoshan Authority. Approval of water supply schemes was also granted for Chichawatni and Harappa. Both the projects were announced by CM during his Sahiwal visit. It was decided to build a modern bus stand in Mianwali, while the sewerage and drainage project in the bus stand will be completed with a cost of 13 crore rupees. 4 development projects were approved for Mianwali city along with the approval of 5 roads' construction schemes.

The CM approved funds for the up-gradation of THQ hospital Minchinabad with a cost of 37 crore rupees. Expansion in the premises of Khawaja Ghulam Fareed mausoleum at Kot Mithan was approved and a boundary wall and marble floor will be constructed there. Different schemes of provision of water for drinking and irrigation purposes under Koh-e-Suleman Development Authority were also approved. The meeting was told that numerous projects will be completed with an amount of 5.71 billion under the Koh-e-Suleman Improvement Project. Bridge and the metallic road will be constructed at Sanghar Nullah and 3.97 crore rupees will be spent to complete the water supply scheme at Sakhi Sarwar.

The meeting also approved Rs. 500 million each for Baba Farid University Pakpattan, Koh-e-Suleman University Rajanpur and University of Hafizabad. In-principle approval was accorded to give 8000 laptops to rural markaz-e-maal while the CM directed to give 2200 laptops to backward areas' colleges. The meeting further approved giving the status of associate colleges to five colleges.
