But your first step to internet safety is to say nothing.

Make it harder for bad actors to find you, manipulate you, or steal all your shit.

I love the moment in 2x08 when TK, in the midst of being held at gunpoint and kidnapped, reached into his pocket and pulled out his sobriety chip and dropped it on the ground.

It was so smart to do, but it also shows how much trust and faith he has in Carlos (and his dad, the 126, etc.) because a random person stumbling across that chip wouldn't think twice about it. The coin isn't custom made with his name on it - anybody could have accidentally dropped one in a parking garage. But Carlos knows as soon as he sees it that it's TK's and what it means.

and TK dropped it because he knew Carlos and his family would be looking for him. TK knew that once he was late enough and didn't check in, it would be Carlos who would go searching for him.

Hi folks! It seems like people are discovering that there are people online who write some WEIRD! 👎 stuff for Nevermoor. Some tips and tricks for dealing with that:

Don't engage. Don't read the fics. Don't even comment to say how much you hate it.

Don't spread it around. It's gross as hell, I know! But being like "ew, guys, I found this gross fic" just means you're causing more people to seek out said gross fic, and that's just not great. If you don't want to see it, no one else wants to either.

If you can: block, mute, or filter. I don't really use any fanfic sites to know if these functionalities exist, but I'm sure people online have found ways. Edit: here's a way to do it on Ao3.

TL;DR: Ignore, Ignore, Ignore. 👍

(PS: Same thing goes for when people send weird inappropriate anon messages. Just delete them from your inbox and don't subject others to them.)

This is unfortunately something that's been present for years in the fandom, on both Ao3 and Wattpad. This is also why I essentially don't read Nevermoor fics unless they're for Mogtober, and even then I'm cautious. I have seen some weird stuff written about my favorite characters that I wish I could pluck from my brain and set on fire, or worse! But when I stumble across that stuff, I just quickly close the tab and pivot to something else to get my mind off of it.

We should not entertain these types of people in a fandom full of minors about a middle grade series, so: just don't engage with them, ignore them, filter them out, and maybe even drown them out with some fics of your own.

AI with ethically sourced data and low environmental impact designed to help streamline or add to your artistic process without replacing it? yippee!!!!!

(examples: AI vocal synths that rely on paid voice work from a voice provider who was hired specifically for the project, specialized digital brushes that dynamically replicate real-life mediums like watercolor or gouache, etc...)

AI that depends on continuous rampant theft to function? made with the intent of replacing artists or eliminating the need for any amount of technical skill?? AND has widespread environmental impact??? i am legitimately beating you to death with hammers.

gonna rant real quick but as someone with ocd…I have to say being on the internet is so bad for you. you open the comments and the first one is shitting on the original poster for something that literally doesn’t matter. the second one is asking why you aren’t paying attention to this completely unrelated thing happening in the world. the third one is a 187-reply-long argument started over one relatively innocuous take. literally at every single turn there’s someone telling you to boycott this or asking why no one is talking about this or proclaiming that you’re a bigot if you don’t do this this and this.

it’s just so much toxicity. everywhere. you can’t go more than five minutes without it. and the more time I spend doomscrolling because I’m too anxious and unmotivated to do anything else the more I am utterly sick of this constant, constant guilt tripping and arguing and hostility. I feel guilty for not being interested in things. I feel guilty for not watching the whole video because my attention span must be decreasing. I’ve been conditioned to feel obligated to form an opinion on every take, justify literally everything I do, talk about every single issue that finds its way onto my page. and I just can’t do that. we weren’t made for that. I’m not sure if it’s just me and my ocd, if other people are just wired to be able to filter it out better than others, but this “internet mentality” is poisoning my life and I hate it.

you know, i want to stay positive and believe that it'll be fine because there's definitely more people in the world that know that pr0sh!pp3r nonsense is used to groom children and is reprehensible. and I know a lotta kids these days know better too, or have people who reach out to them if they don't.

but how many of the kids online that aren't "trendy" or don't post content or lack social skills get completely ignored, or have no one in their online spaces around to help keep them safe? There is so much propaganda and manipulated language being used by these people to groom children and make even adults think it's fine to do, and I just don't know how we can be there to protect every kid who needs it online. it is so repulsive to me how abundant this kinda thing is in every fanbase. all i can think to say is if you see a minor online interacting with it, always try to reach out to keep them safe. maybe take time to talk about it every once in a while.

the way i was publicly preyed upon on this website when i was 14-17 and no one said anything has still left its scars and I don't want any other child to go through that too.
