Au where the turtles are separated but in the funniest way possible. They're ALL just adopted yokai but as they're adopted their new parents get told that they did have brothers and after a DNA test Mama, Splinter, and Draxum are mortified (not Todd bc he's todd) to find out that the turtles are not only adopted by their neighbors, but their neighbors with BEEF (other than todd) but they angrily have to tolerate each other now for the turtles

Theoretically could be the most insane parental polycule but also not. Old people deserve love too or whatever.

And Mama has Leo

1. Probably not, he's only five. He is only just starting to learn the inevitable irregularities of the world.

2. I don't personally headcanon Leo as being fully fluent in Spanish. I think he knows basic conversational terminology and that's it.

3. There are definitely human parents who have big feelings about a school where humans and mutants/yokai attend together. I think mutants/yokai being accepted in society is a new thing in this au, maybe only five years old, so the concept of yokai teachers and students in public definitely has a certain amount of acrimony.

4. No F!Leo in this au! There's no Krang (except for Karen at the PTA bakesale, maybe), no time travel, no apocalypse setting. This is a domestic happy au!

5. I wouldn't go that far with it, but Donnie definitely plays favorites amongst his students. (Especially those in the robotics club.)

6. Probably Raph. It's hard not to love him, he's a giant teddy bear.

The Problem With Animated Shows Today

I shouldn't have to make a post like this because I know there's so much more animated content now than there was when I was a kid. Yet for the better part of a year, I've sat through one abysmal failure of a cartoon after the other, and I just can't stand it anymore. I'm aware the title might come off as pretentious, but rest assured I'm not a pretentious person nor to I view this post as objective fact. I'm just here expressing the common problems I have with cartoons recently and what I feel are the best steps to avoid them.

A common problem I have with cartoons recently is the awful writing on display. Shows like Samurai Rabbit, Hamster & Gretel, Ollie's Pack, and Mech Cadets all have writing that at best very underwhelming and at worst inexcusably amateurish. Scenes would go on for minutes at a time delivering boring exposition, unfunny gags, and very unnatural dialogue. It very much feels like the creators don't understand the value of basic writing principles such as "show, don't tell" "less is more" or "do much, speak little." Rather, they often go through the motions of a typical show so they can meet the given runtine and stay underbudget. For example, an episode of Centaurworld is around 26 minutes, which should be more than enough time to develop the characters, explore the world, have a good amount of funny moments and intense action scenes. What they choose to spend that runtime on instead is one note characters standing around arguing with one another, exposition dump upon exposition dump, unfunny gags, and underwhelming at best action scenes. This in turn makes the premise of the show feel wasted, like the creators only gave a successful pitch just to make something digestible to put bread on the table.

It really does feel like characters in cartoons these days are one of 2 archetypes: the annoying chatterbox and the moronic dirtbag. Let's compare 2 characters that have the same idea but vastly different executions: Eddy from Ed, Edd, n Eddy, and Ollie from Ollie's Pack. Both are outcasts who aren't good role models, but we're supposed to find them entertaining and funny. Despite those similarities, Eddy is clearly the superior character in this scenario because he often gets his comeuppance for almost immediately, and he actually does care for his friends. Ollie, in contrast, is just a selfish brat who sees his friends as expendable and doesn't get his comeuppance as quickly. Not only are the main characters detestable and annoying, but the supporting cast isn't much better as often they're either underdeveloped and unfunny or they're just parrots that always share the same thoughts as the main character. And don't even get me started on how incompetent, pathetic, and annoying the show's villains can get. Seriously, I defy anyone to make a good case for characters like Lloyd Garmadon, Jamack, the Yokai from Samurai Rabbit, or any of the villains from Hamster & Gretel.

An important aspect of animation that not many people bring up in conversation is voice acting. Voice actors are essential in giving life to characters in animation as they're able to make them sound believable and authentic. Or at least, that's what good voice acting should be. So many of the animated shows I've watched have such underwhelming or otherwise terrible voice acting that make the characters sound fake and kill my suspension of disbelief. Some of the worst vocal performances I've heard in recent memory come from Chris Houghton as Cricket Green, Meli Povenmire as Gretel Gomez, Allyn Rachel as Bee, and Danny Pudi as Tiny. They all have very terrible range, no sense of urgency in their tones, and don't sound the least bit believable as their characters. It's also frustrating to hear veteran actors give lackluster performances such as Aulil'i Carvalho as Hailey Banks, Chris Diantamopoulos as Thunder, and Karen Fukahara as Kipo. It's not entirely the fault of the actors for giving lackluster performances, as often they're at the mercy of bad voice direction who doesn't do a good job bringing out the best in their actors.

It's a given that animation on television has more limitations than big budget animated films. The best animated TV shows ever made, though, are able to work around those limitations and provide some excellent visuals that make the world feel alive. Recently though, I've notice a common problem when it comes to the animation in shows like Mech Cadets, Super Giant Robot Brothers, Daniel Spellbound, Hailey's On It, Bee and PuppyCat and My Dad The Bounty Hunter. All of them look good from a design standpoint, but in actual animation, they look choppy and stiff. This is because these shows have bad animation direction. Most people don't think about animation direction when watching a cartoon, but we can definitely tell when animation looks good versus when it looks bad. Bad animation is not just what's being shown on screen but also how it's being presented. In Mech Cadets, a character is giving a backstory to another character in a dark control room, and the camera moves around the room, showing the walls while the character talks. This is beyond inexcusable as it showcases the lack of appreciation for visual storytelling and is a complete waste of resources. Other aspects of bad animation include choppy character movements, a lack of mass on the character models, disorienting cinematography, and poor use of lighting and shading.

What can be done to avoid these shortcomings? Well, it starts by having good scripts that value showing over telling. I can't recommend Pixar's 22 Rules of Storytelling enough for aspiring writers who want to make the best scrips they can. I also think having your characters be likable and well-rounded will help a ton, especially if they're in a show about good triumphing evil. Having good actors is one thing, but it's equally important to have a very good voice director with years of experience bringing out the best in voice actors. Finally, collaborating with a skilled animation director or a very well established animation studio would do wonders. And don't be afraid to speak up and communicate with the producers on how to make the show bettee while staying within the budget. Animation is a collaborative medium and animated series today should do a better job reflecting that.

Everyone meet Yuichi Usagi, a rabbit yokai visiting the hidden city (staying with his uncle) who also works at the run of the mills. His optimism, bravery, interest, impulsiveness and curiosity are his best qualities, but are alas also his flaws, for they lead to many many disasters and trouble along with clumsy faults. Luckily his best friend Sylvia always gets him out. You will find him here either trying his hardest flirting with a peculiar blue turtle, hanging out with Sylvia, being a complete mess or putting his nose where it doesn’t belong. Despite his flaws, he has a big heart and that’s what counts.

Ash is the bartender and walking talking mood ring, and yes he can and will be the stereotypical therapist bartender, she's also Hueso's adoptive kid.

Her cafe was also the FIRST business in NYC to welcome mutants and yokai (post-movie).

Humans who dare cause tension for the latter two can go take a hike (and Gloria’s dealt with at least one Karen who “didn’t want to eat next to freaks”).

I ain’t afraid of no ghost

It’s summer in French Tokyo, and that means it’s festival time. But what is a festival without a test of courage? And who better to host a test of courage than the girl who’s afraid of ghosts?

Wait…

NOTE: This is an episode really steeped in Japanese culture and traditions, so it may not translate well if you’re not familiar with the ideas. I could write an entire post about the references and stuff, but I’ll just give a brief rundown during the miscellaneous section with some links for further reading.

The Plot

Rin and Komachi are preparing a test of courage. Rin is nervous because she doesn't like monsters.

Shibiretta mocks Anacondy for the invasion of Eternal and the defeat of Nebatakos. She snarkily suggests Anacondy should write a report.

Karen, Urara, Nuts, and Coco are at the festival. Nozomi, Kurumi, and separately Syrup are running late. The former group pairs off to find the others.

Shibiretta casts a spell. Everyone finds themselves in an Edo setting confronting Yokai. All fairies revert to their fairy forms and cling to whoever they're with as they flee from the monsters.

Rin is extra scared but Komachi cheers her on, pointing out that their meeting point is still in sight.

Komachi has a plan to overcome Rin's fear in the process. They manage to scare off a skeleton with masks. Rin scares a ghost by pretending to be another ghost.

Urara & Coco, Karen & Nuts, and Syrup run into Nozomi & Milk. Kurumi points out they agreed to meet at the Torii gates.

RIn and Komachi make it to the torii but find Shibiretta there. She turns an umbrella into a Hoshiina, a karakasa kozo (jumping umbrella). Rin freaks out but they transform.

Mint says they won't give up, Rouge declares she's not scared. She does a combo on the monster.

The other girls arrive, Lemonade and Mint combo to toss the monster around and Rose finishes it with Blizzard. Rouge launches a Fire Strike at Shibiretta. She tries spinning it on her head but it burns her and she disappears.

The girls dress as monsters and scare the boys. Rin is a convincing ghost, and thanks Komachi for helping her overcome her fear, she's very happy. Komachi remarks that the ghost fits her perfectly. The others show up and demand to know if she thinks they fit their characters well, Komachi admits that they were chosen more for comedy.

They chase Komachi and the episode ends.

The Analysis

What I Liked

It’s a Rin-centric episode, so that’s an automatic win in my book. Furthermore, it follows up on a plot from last season about Rin’s fear of ghosts and monsters, which I enjoyed.

The various situations the girls found themselves in with the different yokai were great. Even if you could see the gag coming after 2 or 3 attempts, it’s still a worthwhile payoff.

Reverse scaring the yokai is a great spin on the formula and gives some more good gags.

Komachi and Rin are not a common pairing so it’s nice to see them get some focus together.

Rouge overcoming her fear and laying into the Hoshiina is a great sequence.

What I didn’t like

I would have liked to see the actual test of courage course, but all we saw were the costumes.

On that note, I wish Rin had been given a full costume as a ghost, rather than just a wig. It’s possible that was a change of plans, given that Komachi had other masks with her.

I wish the girls other than Rin and Komachi had run into more Yokai. Everyone else got one encounter, ran away, and then met up with each other.

The fight with the Hoshiina was a bit odd. The girls ran, then had their triumphant speech, then everyone showed up, and they got beat up some more before pulling through with the winning strategy? You’d expect the speech to signal the turning tide of the battle.

Komachi says that Rin gives her courage, which I don’t think has ever been portrayed, and isn’t well shown in this episode either.

Miscellaneous

A test of courage is a challenge that can take many forms, but usually a group of people go to a scary or haunted destination at night and either take or leave a token to prove they’ve been there. In more staged tests, the path can be lined with props and people dressed as monsters, like a haunted house but outside.

There’s a lot of yokai on display here! Yokai are monsters from Japanese folklore, somewhat analogous to things like Mothman and Sasquatch in North America.

Rin and Komachi first run into what I believe are noppera-bo, the faceless travelers.

Karen and Nuts encounter karakasa kozo, the jumping umbrellas. The Hoshiina is also a giant one of these.

Urara and Coco meet a kijo, a female oni.

Nozomi and Kurumi are frightened by a rokurokubi, a woman with an extending neck.

Syrup is seen running from a group of chochin obake, or living paper lanterns.

Rin and Komachi later encounter a skeleton, which doesn’t seem to be a specific yokai. (The only skeleton yokai I found was a gashadokuro, which is giant)

Rin and Komachi also encounter a yurei, or a Japanese ghost, and that’s exactly what Rin is impersonating as well.

The costumes that Komachi gives to the girls at the end are as follows

Karen is a vampire

Kurumi is a cat

Urara is a nurikabe (a living wall)

Nozomi is a kappa ( a river spirit).

Komachi praises Rin a few times by calling her a Yamato Nadeshiko, which is a complicated term that basically means an ideal Japanese woman. It doesn’t feel apt to me.

Normally, individual transformations are done in roll order (Dream, Rouge, Lemonade, Mint, Aqua, Rose) barring anyone missing. However when Rin and Komachi transform, Komachi’s is shown first.

Milk transforms into her fairy form for the first time since episode 25. Not that long but still.

Conclusion

It’s a fun summer episode, similar to the ghost episode from last season but with a different take on events. I like how the yokai interact with the girls, and I like how the scattered girls manage to find each other once again. It’s super fun, but there’s not much to say beyond that as it's summer filler. I do appreciate that it coincidentally lines up with the spooky season as I’m writing this. Japan likes to do ghosts and spooks in summer as opposed to fall.

Next time, on Precure Daily, the third monarch makes their debut! Look forward to it!

RITUAL cleanliness is not PHYSICAL cleanliness.

always trust your gut rather than any one of us. YOU are the only authority on your practice and you are the only human you are accountable to for its results.

someone on here I will not name as I am uninterested in shaming anyone, even tangentially, appears to believe that the admonition to ‘get clean’ before doing any magical working pertains to physical cleanliness. It does not, it pertains to RITUAL cleanliness. Sometimes that does mean taking a bath or shower, or cleaning the shrine space and altar, but - Who you work with, if you work with Anyone, and the tradition you are in, and you may not be working within one - determines what ritual cleanliness looks like and whether or not you are strongly advised to do it.

why one might want to get ritually clean before a working.

1. the Gods, Spirits, Ancestors, or Other Beings you work with do not appreciate human stank. they’ll probably want you to bathe and be in clean clothes even if you’re not dirty by human standards. Fairy folx tend to be in this category, and Yokai too. 2. you are aware that spiritual attachments can form without your knowledge and you’d really like the Karen in aisle 3 at Target who was muttering horrible things about you into her phone to not have her hate influence your work today, or you remembered you’d heard Uncle Terrance’s ghost cracking jokes and you’d like your work to focus on the here and now (or where/whenever you’re focusing it) - so you decide you’re going to make a point to cleanse yourself of those attachments you weren’t really paying attention to that were being made through your time between now and your last working of this sort. THIS IS THE BIG REASON FOR GETTING RITUALLY CLEAN BEFORE DOING ANY WORKING I’VE SEEN IN ALL THE TRADITIONS AND CULTURES I’VE STUDIED TO DATE. 3. you’ve worked hard to ensure the space you are doing the working in is properly prepared, and you know you want that space and anything entering it to have the right vibration. so you might bathe or burn something that smokes and apply the smoke to you to ensure that the vibrational frequencies match. reasons i’ve seen NOT to get ritually clean before doing work:

1. you literally don’t have to. no human will be punishing you for not doing it. if your spirit allies don’t require it or don’t ask you to do it - they won’t be irked with you either. the influences will be what they will be anyway, so why not just roll with what is? 2. you don’t have time.

3. you don’t have the tools you feel are correct to do it perfectly. NOTE: perfectly is always a trap, friends, never ever let things not being perfect stop you from doing your work. remember the image of the yin-yang. there is no such thing as perfection, for perfection translates to purity (if not literally, then most often in practice) and the whole of the universe moves internally with that balance of one imperfection in each side of the yin-yang image. without the imperfection, the whole could not flow freely in harmony. so. in conclusion:

cleanse or not, according to your conscience, ability, available time, ritual requirements and the resources to meet those requirements, and the needs of your spirit allies.

no matter what you do, if you do it with sincerity, and are willing to be taught by your spirit allies, most beings will be quite forgiving of imperfections and will gladly instruct you in their preferred methods.

Backstory: In Mobius, back in 1979, Amy Rose is unlike any other Amy Rose in any universes, this Amy Rose is quite different other than the ones from video games and origins. She owns the Stay Puft Marshmallow Factory, she's even the CEO of the company and once a Freedom Fighter just like anyone else who stands up against Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Sonic is the only person who is mature enough to decide to either choose Amy Rose or the bossy queen, Sally Acorn. Of course Sonic would choose Amy Rose because she's sweet, kind, caring, and she can be a fangirl, but she's never obsessive at all. The reason why Sonic didn't choose Sally Acorn is because she's the only reason his money has been missing, and become broke which she clearly just used him just for money. And she's clearly a bossy queen of Mobius. He and Amy are happily married together which caused Sally Acorn to have much jealousy, she would attempt to end Amy's life without Sonic being around her so she will try and attempt to get Sonic back so she can continue her money hungry work by using him once again.

Bio: It was 5 years after Amy and Sonic are married, Dr. Robotnik has attacked Mobotroplis with his robots which caused Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and of course the bossy queen, Sally Acorn to stop his evil plans. This battle between the Freedom Fighters and the Robotnik Empire, not only did the Freedom Fighters smash and destroy the robots from destroying the city, but both Sonic and Amy fought Dr. Robotnik as well. As Sonic was about to defeat Dr. Robotnik, he made a very dirty move by using his SL4SH bot, the only robot with a sword as he is sliced in half brutally, which caused Sally Acorn to falsely accuse Amy and got her kicked off from the Freedom Fighter team (which clearly wasn't Amy's fault, even Tails, Knuckles, and Honey the Cat knows it wasn't her fault at all.) Dr. Robotnik is arrested for first degree murder for using his SL4SH robot against Sonic, and was sentenced to 30 years in the Mobotroplis prison vault. Sonic's funeral is the only thing Amy Rose has ever intended before she ever goes back to work at the Stay Puft Marshmallows Company.

Aftermath: 3 months after Sonic's death, at the Stay Puft Quality Marshmallows Factory. Amy Rose is the only one who tours lucky parents & children with Stay Puft tickets to the world of Quality Marshmallows in this 2nd factory she owns. The children are curious about the big, soft, square shaped marshmallows are made. The ingredients are quite simple, they're made with much love, and very sweet, and rich ingredients from the works. Sally Acorn who is somehow part of the tour, but she's no parent, becomes an entitled Karen to Amy gets into a fight with her in front of the children and families, which basically Amy ended up being pushed down into a vat of Marshmallow goo, and even ended up drowning in the Marshmallow goo. It was all recorded on YouTube, and it was reported on the news that Amy Rose drowned in Marshmallow goo. Sally Acorn covered up the death of Amy Rose after all the controversy she's going through by telling lies and slander. But, all of the Freedom Fighters did not believe her at all after Tails noticed and knew that Sally is the one who become an entitled karen to Amy in the first place, since he's the only one that is smart here. In 1989, Amy Rose rises from death as she became known as Stay Puft Amy, a 100 ft. mascot she became after her tragic, wrongful death. That's when she became a vengeful spirit to this very day.
