Galarian Ponyta/Rapidash Fun Facts
Though lone Galarian rapidashes will often flee when confronted by humans, they become extremely aggressive when their foals are involved, and are prone to lashing out in a very dangerous way. This behavior likely developed in response to the ancient practice of hunting Galarian ponytas for their horns, which were said to have magical healing properties. Though this practice has been outlawed for centuries and is no longer commonplace, Galarian rapidashes are still fiercely protective of ponytas; for this reason, visitors to the Glimwood Tangle that hope to catch a member of the line are encouraged to seek out solitary specimens rather than scouting for herds.
Galarian ponytas are both capable of sensing the intentions of humans, and very wary of approaching anyone that is actively seeking them out-- another result, most likely, of Galar’s ancient horn-hunting practice. Because of this, it’s often said that they, paradoxically, can only be found by those that aren’t looking for them.
Galarian ponytas or rapidashes with Kantonian ancestry display unique coloration, with coarse manes that take on hues ranging from sparkling orange to magenta. This “sunset mane” is considered highly desirable by some due to its unique beauty, and has resulted in several breeding operations with a focus on breeding between the two subspecies. However, these crossbred equines often seem to lack STAB for one or even both of their types (or any type, for that matter), a common issue faced when crossbreeding different varieties of the same species-- making them inferior battlers when compared to their standard Galarian or Kantonian counterparts.
Though Kantonian rapidashes are capable of reaching higher galloping speeds, Galarian rapidashes are much more prolific jumpers, and at times seem to “glide” short distances when jumping-- a feat no doubt aided by the Psychic energy stored in their hair and feathered fetlocks!
The hair of the Galarian ponyta line can glow for weeks or even months after falling out, depending on the psychic power of the specimen in question. It’s not uncommon for trainers to turn any discarded locks of hair into temporary keychains due to their colorful, sparkling qualities.
Due to their relatively small size, emotional intelligence, and their ability to easily understand the needs of their trainer, Galarian ponytas make for absolutely stellar service animals-- as would Galarian rapidashes, if not for their significantly larger stature.
Like many Fairy-types, the Galarian ponyta line possesses a powerful sweet tooth! Though feeding them exclusively sweet foods is certainly not recommended, an occasional snack of fruits, berries, or even sugar cubes will easily pacify most foals. They’re also very partial to mint.
Galarian ponytas and rapidashes are known to greatly enjoy soft music of the classical variety. One recent viral video features a small herd of them approaching a harp player in the woods, the latter of whom remained totally unaware of their equine audience for the entire duration of the herd’s stay-- the performer in question apparently only noticed their presence when editing the footage the next day.

what if i put a kantonian rapidash in your gym
I suppose that would depend upon exactly where you put it. It could run all it liked on the battle court, but it might cause more problems in the stands.

I was debating about sharing these, but might as well. These are the first fakemons that I made, around summer 2017 (No, the first one isn’t Shiny Kantonian Ponyta, even though it really looks like it though 😂). Their names are Gallofreeze, Frostomp, and Snowkey respectively. I made these Pokémon to debut in my first Pokémon fanfiction that I was making at the same time, and was raised by one of the main characters of that story. This was during a time period where my love for Ponyta and Rapidash REALLY started to take off, and I wanted to reflect that with a new, made-up Pokémon for my story.
Now, it’s been quite a long time since I’ve done anything for that story, so I don’t exactly remember all the details for them, but I do remember writing them to be incredibly powerful, so I decided to just consider them a pseudo-legend line. And I think they were Ice/Fairy type, too, with a made-up ability that was basically the freeze equivalent of Flame Body. I think I even made a signature move for them, too.
But now I should probably explain why all three of them look pretty much like glorified Shiny Kantonian Ponyta. Despite their manes being made of fire, the fire itself was actually meant to be cold. I first got this idea from Ultimate Big Chill from Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, where one of his attacks was spewing cold fire to freeze his target. At the time, I thought that it would be a neat idea to integrate that into a Pokémon, and while I still like the concept that I came up with 5 years ago, their designs, uh, kinda suck, which is why at some point I would love to redesign them. Oh, and in the story they could speak fluent human language just like Meowth from Team Rocket. And no, it was never explained in the story.
Pretty much ever since I took down my first fics a few weeks ago, I was thinking about these fakemons and want to redesign them as an attempt of bringing back my first fic, redone from scratch. I’m thinking about making a video going over the redesign, and showing the process of creating it, but I have no idea how I would be able to even do such a thing.
Funny enough, I was reminiscing about this last night with @flock-of-feral-plague-doctors, and I remember him making his own version of Gallofreeze and Snowkey. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen those designs, but I do remember liking them A LOT. Just thinking about all of this makes me feel nostalgic, but also cringe at the same time due to how crappy my first fic was. And yet, despite that, I feel like redesigning my first ever fakemons would be a nice way of bringing back something that I was once proud about, if that makes any sense at all.
I’m probably just blabbering nonsense at this point, but this has been something that I’ve wanted to share for so long, and I just didn’t know how to or even wanted to do so. Frankly, I’m surprised I didn’t do this sooner, but better late than never I guess. I’m sure that once I do sit down to do the redesign videos, more and more memories of these fakemons will flow back to me. The good ones especially.

asking out of curiosity, but how common would each of these variants be?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Link was being dumb, sorry…)
Hello!
The Purebred (Kantonian breed in this case) is the most common of this list and is found anywhere Rapidash and Ponyta is found (except for Galar where the Galarian breed is found instead).
The Vog is the least common, only being found in captivity. The only region where Wooloo and Dubwool are native alongside Ponyta and Rapidash is Galar. The Vog breed is born to a Kantonian mother, not a Galarian one.
Ion Storm isn't common, but it's not rare either. Neither of the parent pokemon are commonly found together in the wild but they are seen together occasionally.
Hanabi is a "spring" father exclusive and so the rarity changes depending on what region your in. In some regions, a sawsbuck/deerling's form changes depending on the time of year. In other regions, it depends on where it's found.
The Pahoehoe is common-ish? Mudsdales and Mudbrays are not typically found in the same environment in a region but have been known to mingle.
The Destrier breed is the second most common breed on this list. In some places, the Destrier breed may even be more common than the standard breed!
(///ooc: I found the post this art came from! Here's the post for those curious!)

I just moved from Kanto to Galar and. omg the Ponyta are so much cuter here. but I just wanted to know how their manes turned from fire to multicolored hair that feels like clouds.
it's the other way around, really. ponyta were in galar long before they were brought to kanto, where the presence of active volcanoes and a more mountainous environment made the evolution of fire-resistant genes and harder, more durable hooves advantageous.
there are some who theorize that deliberate crossbreeding with growlithe and arcanine are what eventually led to galarian ponyta mutating the fire type gene, which then suppressed its fairy type secondary typing upon evolution to rapidash! unfortunately, though, ancient records only depict the kantonian variant, so it's hard to say.

Because it's been rolling around in my head for a while thanks to the Indigo Disk DLC release...
Bells Hells Pokémon Teams!
These are all vibe based, limited to the six Pokémon teams, and everyone gets at least one Legendary and Shiny. Some will be evolutionary lines because I could see them coming into the campaign unevolved.
Chetney
Stoutland- received as a Lillipup when Chet was a kid, this majestic old dog is his oldest companion. I think Stoutland speaks nicely to Chetney having a pretty normal life before he became a werewolf. Aslo, Chet can ride his Stoutland around, which is fun
Phantump- met as Chet trained in the Bramblewood, this spirit of a child in a tree stump/wood fell in love with Chetney's toy carving. Chet loves the joy this Pokémon feels with every project
Snover/Abamasnow- this tree Pokémon was caught during the Icelost years that Chet was present for in Tal'Dorei
Banette- Chetney is worried about his toycraft becoming obsolete, and this Pokémon is an abandoned toy. Also Chet talked about letting his grudges stew before werewolfdom
Lycanroc (Midnight Form, Shiny)- it's a Pokémon with something like the classical wolfman-werewolf shape, so werewolf vibes, baby! Caught after Chet got lycanthropy, shiny because it matches Chet's original color scheme
Zacian- look, it's a wolf that's set to shank a bitch. Tell me that doesn't vibe with Chetney
Orym
Sirfetch'd- Flying-type with a sword and shield, obviously meant for Mr Sword and Shield of the Air Ashari
Honedge/Doublade/Aegislash- Orym's memento of his husband that always travels with him is Will's sword, so the ghost sword(and later sword/shield combo) makes sense for Oym
Comfey- friendly cute flowers for Mr Druidcraft gifts
Pidgey/Pidgeotto/Pidgeot- the normal-est bird for the normal-est guy. Yet capable and more striking the further down the line they get
Appletun (Shiny)- got it in Byroden as a reminder to enjoy life and pie. Also, little guy solidarity. Shiny because green apple for Orym who wears green
Shaymin- more friendly flowers for Orym, and the Sky Form is a little fighter like him
Fearne
Darumaka- Fearne needs a fire monkey to mirror Little Mister and this is the round fire monkey shaped like the Little Mister plush
Braixen/Delphox- fire Pokémon with a bit of a witch aesthetic for the fire girl of the Witchy Bitches
Impidimp- a Fairy-type with a mischievous streak for our mischievous fey
Skiddo/Gogoat- for the goat-ness of being a faun and a little druidic Grass-type
Gloom/Vileplume (Shiny)- for Fearne's love of poisonous flowers. And shiny because it's green and orange, which are Fearne's colors
Moltres- a burning phoenix Pokémon that Fearne worries will take on the Galarian Form that her Bad Future Self had
Imogen
Mudsdale- workhorse for the farmgirl who loves horses
Ponyta (Galarian)- cute unicorn pony with Psychic typing (not Galarian Rapidash because I think it's ugly)
Blitzle/Zebstrika (Shiny)- the Electric-type "horse" (zebras are close, okay?) Pokémon for our storming electrical Horse Girl. And shiny because Zebstrika is purple when shiny
Hattrem/Hatterene- Imogen's witch Pokémon. It's Psychic-type and sensitive to emotions, making it sort of like her mindreading
Elgyem/Beheeyem- Psychic-type and kind of alien-ish and said to mess with people's heads, this Pokémon showed up to Imogen after her Exaltant powers awakened
Spectrier- Legendary horse that comes in Imogen's two colors: purple and red
Laudna
Rattata (Alolan)- to mirror Pâté. Potentially shiny as the deep red and black are Laudna's colors
Mimikyu (Shiny)- a broken doll-like Pokémon for a person who feels like a broken doll. And shiny makes it a pale black and white like Laudna
Mismagius- Laudna's witch Pokémon, and ghostly of course (Also collar gems like Delilah?)
Leavanny- a bit of a crafter Pokémon and protective of kids
Meowth (Galarian)- the Alolan Meowth and Kantonian Persian are the kind of Pokémon I could see noble ladies having, so Laudna decided to catch her own Meowth... and ended up with a scrungly Galarian one. But she loves them anyways
Marshadow- it's shadow theme matches Laudna's Shadow Sorcerery. And Laudna does spend time trying to copy the Ladies of Whitestone...
FCG
Togepi/Togetic/Togekiss- Pokémon that are about bestowing happiness, because that's all FCG wants for their friends. Possibly not enthused by Togekiss being so bird-like, while Togetic is definitely on the edge of comfortable
Happiny/Chansey/Blissey- classic Pokémon Center helper and healers line for the cleric
Porygon/Porygon 2/Porygon-Z- artificial Pokémon for the artificially made person. The bird-ish shape might weird FCG out a bit
Fidough/Dachsbund- obtained after they got their oven installed, this Pokémon helps FCG with his baking endeavors
Iron Thorns- secret Aeorian rage-mode Pokémon since Future Paradox Pokémon look like robots and Tyranitar, which Iron Thorns is based off of, is known for raging around (also reflects Ashton having a Tyranitar a bit)
Magearna- a man-made clockwork Legendary for the Aeormaton
Ashton
Golett/Golurk (Shiny)- a rock person Pokémon for an actual rock person. And they're also powered by mysterious energies. Probably Ashton's original Pokémon. Shiny for green glow lines
Tyranitar- acquired as a Larvitar in Bassuras and a point of pride to have fully evolved given the reputation of such a Pokémon in that city
Tinkaton- also caught in Bassuras as a Tinkatink. It's a Pokémon with a big hammer and the evolutionary line would probably be semi-common in the scrap heaps of Bassuras (Also the Corviknight hunting as a get rid of birds that FCG fears/hates)
Growlithe/Arcanine(Hisuian)- for Ashton's strong loyalties. Possibly acquired after attempting to absorb the Spark of Rau'shan for the Fire/Rock typing, or just had since a kid from Hishari
Cosmog- suddenly appeared after Ashton got galaxy-brained because it's a little galaxy guy from another (higher?) dimension. It's Ashton's innocent baby who doesn't know how to stay in the damn pokéball and not reveal his soft side
Regigigas- this is the big titan Pokémon, hauling continents and shit. Not to mention that the Slow Start ability reflects how Ashton had a titan shard for twenty years before they really got it to do anything spectacular

Could we have mudbray facts? My uncle has a bunch of them and is training them to pull these old-timey buggies and herdics (small ones so they can be used to the feeling of pulling a cart when evolved) and I've been interested in adopting one from my uncle.
Mudbray Facts
Tumblr media
(Art by Naoyo Kimura)
-The scientific name for Mudbray is “Equus lutulatus” which roughly translates to “Mud-bearing horse”
-Mudray are equines and their closest relatives are Zebstrika and Rapidash
-Mudbray are able to regurgitate mud, which they apply to their hooves so they can walk on terrain without slipping. Mudbray will also feed this regurgitated mud to their young
-Mudbray will also apply the mud to the rest of their bodies to cool off and to hide from predators
-They're incredibly social and live in herds. Having a lone Mudbray can be very bad, as they're more prone to anxiety and depression
-The most common Mudbray breed is the Hinny breed, and they have [Kantonian] Ponyta/Rapidash fathers
-Mudbray fur is known to have a very rough feeling and is hard to comb
Tumblr media
-An important thing for Mudbray trainers to know is to never approach these pokemon from behind. This can startle them, and they will reflexively kick, which can launch you quite a distance
-Mudbray are able to walk just a couple hours after hatching
-Mudbray sleep standing up by locking their legs to hold them in place. This is called ‘stay apparatus’
-While Mudbray populations in thr wild are low, their numbers are slowly increasing due to added protection laws
-Uaing the mud they stick on their feet, Mudbray are able to climb straight up a mountain (not many prefer to climb this way, but they can)

Gen I, Complete!
That's right, with Mew's poll finalized we can say we have made it through the entirety of Gen I's Pokemon (plus variants introduced in later generations)!
As such, I'd like to take a moment to recognize this generations...
Sultans of Smash!
(Which is just a fancy way of saying they got more "Smash" than "Pass" votes)
So then, lets go through the list! Our Smashables are (under the Read More because holy fuck we're gonna be here a while):
Venusaur! Voted 53.3% Smashable in Standard Form and 54.9% Smashable in Mega Form! Though sadly, Gigantamax did not make the cut.
Charizard, who really raked in the Smashes! Boasting a 58.2% Smash vote in Standard Form, a whopping 70.4% Smash vote in Mega X Form, an even 66% Smash vote in Mega Y Form, and a similar to standard 57.1% Smash vote in Gigantamax, we cannot deny it: Charizard is smashable however one pleases!
And rounding out the OG Starter Trio, Blastoise! Voted 57.4% Smashable in Standard Form! But, alas, only Standard Blastoise was voted smashable... I guess extra cannons just don't do it these days.
Looks like the Snakes are Sexy trope is in effect (maybe), because Arbok made the cut at 53.7%! Guess more people love snakes than you'd think.
Looks like this group has a queen. Or should I say, a Nidoqueen? At 61.7%, it seems she's managed to charm many trainers throughout the years!
But of course, where there's a queen, there's often a king! So it's only fitting that Nidoking joins the Sultans of Smash! Hitting a respectable 66.2%, it seems the Nido- royal family has made monarchists of more than a few.
It's a trend as old as time (or at least as old as the country of Japan). The Kitsune of Japanese folklore has always been seen with an aura of sultriness in even some of its oldest appearances, and it seems Pokemon is no exception. Ninetails has been voted Smashable, with the classic Kantonian Ninetails ranking at 64.5% and the more modern Alolan Ninetails at 66.7%! Though really, considering how common art of these two are, It's surely no surprise they've made it here.
Of course, a trend must be noted: Whenever Ninetails is anthropomorphized, it's almost always as a woman. So one has to wonder, if Ninetails is the lord of the female anthros, who's the lord of the male anthros? Well for that, look no further than Ninetails' counterpart from Red version, Arcanine! With an impressive 73% smashability in Kantonian form (plus the largest number of overall votes) and a fine 63.5% in Hisuian form, Arcanine's appeal is very much apparent to many.
I'd like to congratulate this next one for being the first non-final evolution to make the cut! Kadabra has managed to pull a 59.8% Smashability rating, earning them a spot in the Sultans of Smash!
Of course, Kadabra's not the only member of this family on here. Alakazam has also been voted Smashable, at 66.1% for Standard form and 55.4% for Mega! Seems Max was right, the ladies do love a good spoon-bending (which is impressive, considering he doesn't even like girls).
Perhaps you're not much for brains, maybe you prefer brawn. If that's the case, Machoke has you covered! At a 63.9% Smash rating, seems this Superpower Pokemon also has the super power of getting some.
But of course, much like their Psychic-Type counterpart family, it doesn't end with Machoke. Oh no, Machamp has also made their way to the list, with a 61.1% Smash in Standard Form and a 52.4% Smash in Gigantamax! I guess with four arms, there really is enough of Machamp to go around for everyone!
I suppose the allure of the tentacles is too strong for some to pass up, because Tentacruel has made it at a 51.3% Smash vote! Just, uh, make sure to have some Antidotes on hand for your fun times...
A loyal steed can get one through many things, and few steeds are so loyal as Rapidash! With Kantonian at 59.2% and Galarian at 64.8%, maybe we need to start calling them Nearl Arknights the way people wanna smash these horses.
I'm gonna be honest, this one I didn't see coming! Haunter has managed a 55.4% Smash vote, earning them a spot in the Sultans of Smash! Guess more people must be into ghosts than I thought.
This next one, less of a surprise! They're big, they're fun, and they can probably do all the stuff a Haunter can and more, Gengar has made the cut in all forms, with a 63.7% for Standard Form, a 60.8% for Mega, and a 53.4% for Gigantamax! What can we say, Gengar has it going on according to the statistics.
And next on the list, Hitmonchan! Making the cut at 52.6% and beating out the kick-based Hitmonlee, it would seem you can get some if you skip leg day! (...There's probably a fisting joke in here somewhere as well, but lets not go there. Low hanging fruit and all.)
It's one of the oldest questions: "Hey baby what that tongue do?" And it would seem Pokemon are not immune to this question either, or at least Lickitung isn't! And at a 55.4% Smash vote, the answer seems to be "This tongue does a lot."
We got ourselves a bit of an oddity on this one, as Tauros has made the cut... but only in two of its Paldean forms, with Blaze Breed hitting 60.4% Smash and Aqua Breed getting a 52.1% Smash! That said, the other two come close as well, so I must conclude that the additional elemental types just add that special something!
Many people love to be serenaded, it's just one of those facts of life. So maybe it'll come as no surprise that the musically inclined Lapras has managed to carve itself a nice 63.4% Smashability rating in the votes! That said, sadly Gigantamax has not had the same luck. Guess it's true, sometimes the original is just better.
Shapeshifting! Almost any time a super power with smash-based applications is thought of, shapeshifting is one of the first to be imagined. So it's almost certainly no surprise that the mercurial Ditto has managed to earn itself a hefty 70.1% Smash rating!
Oh boy queue up the copypasta, because Vaporeon has proven that people agree! Specifically, 52% of voters agree! ...No I'm not putting the copypasta here, someone already did that on Vaporeon's poll.
Of course, that's not to say the rest of the Eeveelutions are unloved! Why, Jolteon has managed to pull a 54.5% Smash rating!
And of course, Flareon isn't forgotten either (at least by the fans, the way the actual games treat it you have to wonder about Game Freak...)! Making it to a 52.4% Smash rating, Flareon (and Jolteon, as stated above) prove that all three OG Eeveelutions have their fair share of the love.
Coming in as the 25th member of the Sultans of Smash, Snorlax has proven to be considered big and beautiful by 56% of the vote! Though it would seem this does not extend to Gigantamax Snorlax, though judging by that tree on their belly they may simply be Too Big To Smash.
And of course, we now get to the OG Legendary Trio, the Elemental Birds! And starting us off is Articuno! Specifically, Galarian Articuno, who has managed to outsmash their Kantonian cousin and gain themselves a 69% Smash rating (nice). Personally, I think it's the Char Aznable vibes they give off, what with the mask and the psychic powers and the redder coloration (being purple to the Kantonian's blue) and the being faster (though not 3x faster).
And much like Articuno, Galarian Moltres has managed to overtake their Kantonian cousin and snatch the Smash rating! And at 60.8% Smash, it's clear that, at least for Moltres, they do go for the jerks.
We saw with Arbok, and now we see it here with Dragonair and their 61.8% Smash rating, serpentine Pokemon have their share of fans down to smash!
And as the first fully evolved Pseudo-Legendary and the first fully evolved Dragon-Type, Dragonite's 57.3% Smash rating has reminded us that sometimes, being big and friendly while also being strong enough to kick ass has its charms!
And finally, rounding out Gen I's Sultans of Smash, we have The Gamebreaker of their day, the original Bragging Rights 'Mon, Mewtwo! With a 68.8% in their Standard Form and a 56.7% in their Mega X Form, Mewtwo proves they still got it in terms of smashing! Though it seems that Mega Mewtwo just doesn't have the raw smashing charisma of their other two forms...
And that wraps up the Gen I Who's Who of Smashing! See you all after Gen II!

Many are already aware of the competitiveness of Kantonian Rapidash. Their penchant for racing is noted frequently in factsheets and pokedex entries alike. However, some may be interested to learn that Galarian Rapidash shares that same desire to win, and often uses impromptu races as a certain fairy test of worthiness- they might refuse to join your adventure or withhold healing from their horn until they've been beaten to some finish line. This becomes more troublesome when one realizes that few people or pokemon have the ability to deftly weave through the Tangle's branches and roots the way they do.

Any interesting facts about Galarian Ponyta? I love them so much!
Hmmmm let's see.
I feel like I've both talked a lot about them and not at all.
I know a thing or two from Kantonian Ponyta because they were a big part of our "Fire Type Restoration" plan a few years ago here in sinnoh.
If you didn't know, sinnoh used to be severely lacking in Fire Types, causing an imbalance in our ecosystem, but when I was brought on, this became one of our first big missions to do.
Ponyta are some of the fastest land pokemon around, naturally outpaced by Rapidash.
Their Galarian counterparts are actually significantly slower but are actually more powerful.
When I say powerful, I mean they have a lot of stored powers, which in a one on one battle of power, the galarian forms would actually be more likely to win.
But in physical strength, Kantonian is much stronger.
It's actually said that Kantonian Ponyta and Rapidash are able to determine worthy trainers and can choose not to burn them when they ride.
Their Galarian versions have a method of this, as they can actually sense the desires, strength, kindness, basically worthiness of a trainer, and pull it out, truly judging someone.
If a Galarian Rapidash chooses a trainer, it means they judged you worthy and will trust you with their lives.
They also expect you to do the same.
These pokemon are incredibly noble, and it's very amazing to see the bonds they forge.
