Happy HallOOOween 2023, ladyfreaks and gentlemutants, boils and ghouls, chill-dren of all aeons!
This spookiest, ookiest, creepiest, crawliest, scary of nights, Frogboy Finn Mertens and Froggirl Princess Bubblegum suit and gear up and dive into the deep, dark, inky, glow-in-the-dark waters of the underwater world in Halloween night in their new replica full longsleeve wetsuits and dive fins, hardshell backpack air tank, dive jacket and double hose regulator facemask rig scuba gear of the two Heroes of Ooo's Junior Diver Halloween Cosplay with Finn as Jonny Quest and Princess Bubblegum as Jessie Bannon from 1996's The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest in the episode Besieged In Paradise.
And if you think our heroes' cosplay are mere Halloween costumes, fellow fiends, better think again: Finny Quest's and Princess Jessiegum's wetsuits and scuba gear are fully-functional and faithful-to-the-last-atomauthentic replicas of the real deal as featured in that episode, directly ready for underwater and trick-or-treatin' action!
And considering Jonny Quest and Finn Mertens are both handsome blond blue-eyed devils of Boys of Adventure of Cartoon Network, the cosplay wetsuit and scuba gear is a perfect fit for the Mertens boy.

( camila mendes  ,  cis woman,  she/her  ,  twenty-five )   a  little  birdy  told  me  CLÁUDIA "DIA" RIBEIRO  just  moved  to  sunset  hills  .  have  you  met  them  yet  ?  i  heard  them  driving  down  the  street  playing  PEOPLE COME PEOPLE GO  by  DEEP SEA DIVER  ,  they  sounded  a  little  pitchy  but  they  had  the  spirit !  must  be  their  favorite  or  something  .  hey  …  it  looks  like  they  just  moved  into  DUSK DRIVE  .  have  you  heard  about  what  they  do  for  a  living  ?  someone  told  me  they’re  a  SURF INSTRUCTOR  ,  but  who  knows  if  that’s  even  true  .  guess  we’re  just  gonna  have  to  wait  and  see  .  nervous  ?  don’t  be  ,  i  think  you’re  gonna  get  along  just  fine  !  i  can’t  wait  to  see  what  they  get  up  to  .
hi honeybees ! i’m phoebe ( aka pb to avoid confusion with character phoebe ) and i haven’t rped in a group in SEVERAL long months because of graduating c*llege. and dia’s a brand new character so bear with me while i get my rp sea legs back... anyways, here’s my baby:
dia’s a relative newcomer not just to sunset hills, but to the united states — a 25 year old brasileira from rio de janeiro who graduated university three years ago with a bachelor’s in leisure and tourism ( at her university in são paulo, it’s an interdisciplinary degree blending natural sciences, sociology, arts and culture, education, etc, all up dia’s alleyway without pigeon-holding her to one subject ), her first taste of california was through the study abroad year she did at sunset hills university as a junior
there’s basically nothing else to say about her backstory because im in my flop era and didn’t think of anything worthwhile ❤️ the main points to note are that her family’s upper middle class, her father has american citizenship, and i think she has a younger brother
what followed her university graduation was a sense of aimlessness while still wanting to do something big — getting a job at a bureau of tourism wasn’t quite what she was itching for, so dia took a leap of faith and decided to return to sunset hills, having loved the californian beach culture and overall vibe of the city. wanting to be outdoors, she quickly found a job as a surf instructor and has been in the position ever since.
i’m thinking the position is with a surf school ( also affiliated with summer camps for kids, perhaps...??? ) but she also does some private lessons for friends or anyone else referred to her on the side because who’s gonna stop her
moving out of her home country and away from her family was... not necessarily an impulsive decision, considering dia’s always had a travel bug — it’s why she did the study abroad year in the first place — but it was a little fiscally irresponsible of her. she’s generally someone who values experiences over material goods and has never been able to build up proper savings because what’s money when something can bring you happiness? that being said, she’s fortunate to have parents who are financially comfortable enough to occasionally help her out in a tight spot ( though she tries to prevent that as much as possible, also valuing taking ownership for her own decisions and any complications that might come with them; she may have been a little starry-eyed at 22, but at 25, she knows better ). in the present day, dia’s trying to be a little more frugal, considering she’s building a life for herself in sunset hills and has moved into dusk drive, a step above midnight park.
overall, she’s adventurous, generous, and warm, more than happy to invite people into her home and life — but to a point. dia is, bless her heart, incredibly non-committal when it comes to anything beyond friendship. part of it is a fear to be vulnerable but much of it is driven by the thought in the back of her head that she’ll one day return to brazil so developing a real connection feels futile. she’s prone to going on a couple of dates with people and drifting, or one night stands that very seldom repeat. regardless, she’s one of those people that seems to strike up conversations with people wherever she goes so those reservations certainly don’t apply to her friendships whatsoever.
incredibly independent, and sometimes to a fault. like, the type of independent where she’ll be sick and still refusing to be babied, or defensively asserting that yes, she can carry all of the grocery bags from trader joes, thank you for offering, but then everything ends up spilling out of the bag anyways. another thing she’s trying to work on but isn’t quite successful at — in a lot of ways, dia keeps trying to prove she’s capable of being on her own, given the many reservations her family had when she said she wanted to move to the states and do something unrelated to her degree, but she hasn’t fully realized she already proved as much a long time ago and can start to let go of her sometimes fatal determination.
her personality does have a bit of a sarcastic bite to it, but only when warranted; she’s got very little patience for snobs in particular, especially since she loves making the most of her life and can’t fathom having things to whine about or wanting to deny others joy, even if it’s not quite “intellectual” enough. like grow up!!! this type of holier-than-thou attitude also grates her coming from another culture and being on a learning curve when it comes to certain aspects of the united states. not everyone knows everything all the time, or knows what’s “cool”, so give them some grace! it’s this kind of life experience that definitely informs dia’s living by a “be kind but take no shit” mantra.
some other tidbits: she’s a fan of psychedelic rock ( bands like o terno, the brian jonestown massacre, the black keys, pond ), she’s a gemini, she’s openly bisexual, beer is her alcohol of choice, and she’s a mango MONSTER, so beware if you serve it anywhere because she will scarf it all down with no regard for anyone else like a woman possessed. also pretty athletic, if you couldn’t already tell by the surfing, but she also enjoys beach volleyball ( despite being 5′2 ), soccer, swimming, and taking walks.
a good character comparison would be donna sheridan from mamma mia but hopefully without the three baby daddies LMFAOOOOO
finally: dia energy

Sixth drawing in the series of latinx and hispanic DC heroes and antiheroes, and well, the last time we saw with EL GAUCHO how a bad idea can turn good; today, not so much, so here’s the mexican Green Arrow -credited in some parts as “VERDE FLECHA” (sic)-.
So, the story goes like this... we all know that before Denny O’Neil transformed Ollie into the amazing socialist hero that he is (or was, then wasn’t, then once again became, at least depending on the writer), he used to be a Batman rip off with a Robin Hood flavor. And as a copycat, since Batman got the “Batmen of All Nations”, of course Green Arrow got something similar, so DC created the “Green Arrows of the World” group in 1958, as they appeared in Adventure Comics #250, in a story drawn by none other than Jack Kirby and written by Bill Finger.
As you can guess, and just like it happened with Batman, all these international Green Arrows were, basically, different stereotypes applied to the Green Arrow mantle, and among those, was this mexican Green Arrow. I haven’t read the story, but according to what I could find, some websites said he’s unnamed, but others named him “VERDE FLECHA” (which I don’t know if it was true, or was just the websites giving him a bad translated name since in spanish, Green Arrow’s name is “FLECHA VERDE”).
Anyway, this fellow, and all those other Green Arrows, never stuck around past their first appearance (perhaps for the best). But what’s sadder about this whole thing, is that it took 19 years for another latinx or hispanic hero to appear in a comic published by DC (in the meantime, the 2 most prominent latinx characters were Miguel, a south american -no nationality stated- “junior diver” member of the Sea Devils -think the Challengers of the Unknown but with a maritime spin-; and Anthony Rodriguez Jr., the son -and later retconned to be a clone- of Big Words from the Newsboy Legion).

BIOGRAPHY
“‘Aye, the ship may be good, but ‘tis the b'ys who make it great.”
Petty Officer 2nd Class MacNamara was born to a fisherman father and a barkeep mother in Mt Pearl Newfoundland. From a young girl to now, she was always active, looking for adventure; whether it be hiking along a trail, playing rugby or devising an elaborate prank on one of her senior coworkers.
A first generation military member, Finley knew she wanted to stay close to the water. Before joining, she went to the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma earning her Aviation Electronics Technology Associate’s degree. When she applied to the RCN, she had quite a few options to choose from, but ended up picking NESOP; Naval Electronic Sensor Operator, being similar to what she had studied before. As a junior operator she located and identified unknown radars, listened to comms of other subs, ships, aircraft and shore bases, conducted intel and evidence gathering, then moved on to be a fire control operator, firing the 57mm cannon, Harpoon missiles and CWIS systems on Halifax Class Frigates. During her time on the frigates, she became a ships diver, went on drone courses, and joined the Naval Boarding Party, which then gave her a small taste of what NTOG would bring her.
Throughout her entire career she had been sent on deployments, from OP Reassurance in the Mediterainian to OP Artemis in the Arabian Sea. During her later deployments, she was the senior drone operator and maintainer, leading her to apply to NTOG by recommendation of her superiors to become a drone specialist there.
During her time in NTOG, MacNamara deployed again with the Halifax Class Frigates, performing her duty and boarding on non-compliant vessels of interest, ship board protection, drone operations for classified intelligence, planning missions and identifying IEDs. When the activity grew stale, she sought out opportunities and joined various army units including CSOR as an intel operator. It was then, when she was deployed out in 2010 that she met Scorch, recognizing the famous last name.
The two got along for the most part, and on an off comment, Scorch commented on how much more useful the drone would be if the infrared could translate to the soldiers on the ground, cutting out the need for constant communication. MacNamara got to work on the schematics for her glasses, building in a HUD within them that would be able to receive feed from the drone itself. She and Scorch put the glasses through extensive trials, and when they were ready to be deployed in active combat, Scorch took them in and approved them. When MacNamara came back from the middle east, she continued to use them herself in NTOG after building a handheld controller to carry with her.
Rainbow picked up her file, noting her drone expertise and if they ever needed her, to expand to the naval environment. She accepted the offer late 2017.
PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT
The first thing I could say about Specialist Finley ‘Aquila’ MacNamara is that she is certainly unique. When she first enters the room it’s like a renewed energy. She is always itching to do something, always ready to go. She almost seems to be friends with everyone, and can never say anything bad about other operators.
I catch myself from laughing when she speaks, the thick Newfoundland accent and speech patterns almost impossible to understand. And the swearing- it’s almost impossible to hear her speak without it. I supposed ‘swear like a sailor’ is a true saying. When I hear her and Sledge going at each other it’s almost like a foreign language. The two have tales of grandeur that when i think one has the leg up, the other has a story that can outdo. And when they’re down at the pub together- lookout. One talks politics and the other starts fights- which had led to me getting her out of jail once.
The roughness, I believe, comes from her two brothers, who she has said showed her ‘tough love’ growing up, and assisting her father as a fisherman. She will go on about her adventures for as long as you let her. Being out in a small fishing vessel that feels every wave, then crossing the Atlantic in a frigate; which the waves can get up to 10 meters high, not to forget the swells. She’s said that at times, there were waves that would put the entire ship underwater. Makes me never want to sail. She assured me it was fun. I said sure.
–Dr, Harishva “Harry” Pandey, Director of Rainbow
Trivia
- ‘Aquila’ is Latin for ‘eagle’
- Her gadget, the drone 'Munnin’, and glasses 'Huginn’, are named after Odin’s watchbirds, eluding to her Nordic ties.
- While NTOG itself is a naval based operations group, because of her trade and drone experience she is utilized by the army when needed
- MacNamara’s official languages are English, Spanish, and Turkish, she also knows Gaelic

Anime Spotlight - Gundam Build Divers
So I watched this series for one reason and that was the character design of Magee and their fantastic butt!
The plot is In the near future, where the Gundam franchise is at its peak and the popularity of Gunpla is soaring to new heights, a new Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online (VRMMO) Game called "Gunpla Battle Nexus Online" (GBN) is made. In Gunpla Battle Nexus Online, players can upload themselves and their Gunpla online through the virtual space and battle with players from across the world. In the game itself, the player assumes the role of a Gunpla Diver, and each year a special tournament called "Gunpla Force Battle Tournament" is held to prove who is the best Gunpla Diver. The story revolves around Riku Mikami, a 14-year old junior high school student and an admirer of famous Gunpla Diver Kyoya Kujo. He and his friends Yukio and Momoka love Gunpla and play GBN together. However, his own life changes as he meets a mysterious Gunpla Diver named Sara as strange events take place in the GBN with the appearance of Mass-Divers. Now guided by his new allies, he forms their first Gunpla Diver group, embarking on epic adventures with his friends and to see who is the best fighter in the GBN world.
It actually turned out to be a rather fun series with some cool gundam battles and fun characters. Yes the main draw was Maggee but then I stayed for the awesome pairing of Tiger Wolf and Shahryar. They are just such a cute ship, they fight and biker but respect each other. Yep there are a few rather attractive characters with close bonds that I enjoyed.
The actual plot is a lot of fun and when it gets to the big battle its all the awesome Gundam fights you want. Def worth checking out!

The Abyss is a large chasm that stretches further than has yet been explored and is full of mysterious creatures and ancient relics. However descending into it comes at a price; the further down you go the more excruciating the consequences of ascending are. When junior diver Riko meets the amnesiac robot boy Reg on one of the uppermost levels she decides they should venture down into the Abyss to find her missing mother and help regain his memories. Starts off cute but gets real dark real quick.

Thai cave rescuers say they faced arrest after giving kids ketamine
Tumblr media
THEY were the hobbyist hero divers who saved a dozen boys trapped in Thai caves flooded by rising monsoon rains. Brits Rick Stanton and John Volanthen earned the George Medal for rescuing the lads, aged 11 to 16, from their refuge in an air pocket more than two miles inside the underground system. The 12 members of a junior soccer team and their coach had been trapped for more than two weeks in the summer of 2018 and all other attempts to reach them had failed. Today the publicity-shy pair have told for the first time how their rescue idea was so risky, the UK government had a “James Bond-esque” plan to extract them if it all went wrong. John also talks of how he chanted “Believe, believe” when they finally reached the boys — to reassure himself that the amazing sight he was seeing was real. The modest Brits’ story will be told in a big-screen documentary, The Rescue, in cinemas this week. And Rick and John will be played by Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell in Thirteen Lives, an upcoming Hollywood retelling of the rescue. And what a drama it will make. Before the rescue began, Rick and John put forward a high-stakes plan to give the boys ketamine — used by vets as a horse tranquilliser — to ease the youngsters’ perilous two-and-a-half-hour journey under water. But the duo were warned that if any of them died from the sedative they could be arrested or face retribution from vengeful locals - hence the British evacuation plan. Many Thais were extremely doubtful about the pair’s audacious scheme to get the trapped boys out of the underground tunnels by putting them to sleep. Even the cave-diving doctor who they had persuaded to administer the drugs believed he might kill the youngsters. But Rick and John believed the situation was so dire that if even half of the boys made it out alive it would be a success. In an exclusive interview, John, 50, says: “The risk to us was we could potentially end up in the Thai judicial system or certainly end up as pariahs and deal with the consequences ourselves. “Those risks were there. Cave diving is an unforgiving business. The largest risk was to the children. If we took the do-nothing option, they were going to die.” Thanks to meticulous planning and teamwork, the 12-strong team all made it out alive from the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Northern Thailand. Both John and Rick were awarded the George Medal for “acts of great bravery” and lauded as heroes across the globe.

Tumblr media
Members of the Wild Boars soccer team who were rescued from the flooded cave after many failed attempts to escape But back home in England, they are modest about their daring deeds. Neither diver spoke to the media during the operation in Thailand and they remain hobbyists who are ill at ease with the limelight. John only met the rescued boys once, for just 15 minutes, because he didn’t want them to feel they were “beholden” to him. And he claims his life was not “exceptionally in danger” in the cave, even though two Thai divers died as a result of the rescue effort. How Rick, from Coventry, and John, from Bristol, got caught up in the massive operation on the other side of the world is largely down to an “incredible” coincidence. Rick, 60, tells how he started dating Thai girl Amp Bangnoen when he was introduced to her by a military pal he had saved from a cave in Mexico. As soon as Amp returned to Thailand after visiting Rick in Britain she heard about the boys being trapped in the caves in her home town. He says: “She came up with, ‘I would love to see you involved in that’. “She called me and said ‘there is a football team trapped in a cave’ and I was very dismissive. "I assumed they were boys who had gone for an adventure and hadn’t come out.” But once Amp had convinced him it was a real emergency, British expat cave diver Vern Unsworth — who famously sued Elon Musk after the Tesla tycoon called him “Paedo guy” after he turned down Musk’s offer of a rescue sub — persuaded the Thai authorities that Rick and John were the best options for finding the boys. They had both been involved in rescues and in 2010, with two other divers, set a world record for the longest cave dive — for distance rather than depth — of 28,900ft. However the Thai Navy SEALs in charge of the search were not so welcoming. They told the Brits, who turned up wearing sticky-taped old diving suits: “Don’t expect us to rescue your bodies if you die in there.”
