He doesn't know that the man upstairs is Harrier Du Bois, infamy manifested in the flesh. And he doesn't know that Harrier Du Bois' efforts to bludgeon himself into oblivion over the past two days just met its catastrophic failure. What he does know is this: The window upstairs is broken. He's here to investigate a lynching. And he's angry that he couldn't get here sooner.

“Hello, sir. I am Lieutenant Double-Yefreitor Harrier Du Bois from the 41st Precinct. Jamrock. This is my operating partner, Lieutenant Kim Kitsuragi from the 57th Precinct. Greater Revachol Industrial Harbor—also known as GRIH. Right now, we are the law, and we would like to ask you a few questions. Is that quite all right?”

The dark-haired man with the unimpressive beard gaped with shock, eyes flickering between Kim and the man from the 41st, eyes wide. Kim wasn’t sure what it was that shocked him.

What he did know was that he was shocked to find out that the man he was partnered with was the infamous Harrier Du Bois—the Human Can-Opener. The man with over 200 closed cases under his nearly two decades of adamant police work. Word around the Precinct stressed his infamy for being short-tempered, unpredictable, and fucking insane.
