Tennessean trans man David Scott Ryan III transitioned in 1949, around age 26. He became a pastor in 1955 while passing as cis and preached throughout Arkansas and Oklahoma for years. Narratives like David's narratives don't often end well, but David successfully fought to live as a man! Here's his story:

Born in rural Oklahoma on 9/22/1923, David privately transitioned in 1949 before marrying his first known wife, chaplain Margie. He then married another woman named Gwyn after leaving Margie in 1953. He later married a third wife, Glenda, in 1960.

David was outed after his 1961 bigamy arrest. It's unclear if his bigamy was accidental or even real. Gwyn filed for divorce in March 1960 before he married Glenda in June, but documents do not show if the divorce was completed. Glenda filed the bigamy complaint herself for unknown reasons. Was it jealousy? Was David outed? Was she feeling neglected? Glenda did not speak with reporters.

David was far from the first trans man arrested for marrying a woman. Yet, the courts did not know what to do with him. The judge dismissed his case after 4 months of jail and he stayed out of the news for a decade.

There are countless cases like David Ryan in the mid-20th century- trans people who make the news for a few weeks before fading into history. However, thanks to new archive technology, we can trace David's story further. He re-married a woman named May Louise and they divorced in 1971. He then married for a 5th and final time to high school teacher Imogene Cox in 1975. He took up jobs at a construction equipment site and Walmart in Evansville, Indiana over the following decades.

David passed in 2002 from heart disease at age 78. The mortician must have insisted on using an "F" for David despite "M" appearing on his other documents (why?). Local news reported that David loved to play instruments and paint. 50 years after transitioning, he still worked with the church.

The third annual Sailor Moon LGBTQ+ Week takes place the week of June 16-22, 2024 (during Pride Month).

You may post your works on Tumblr, AO3, Deviantart, or anywhere you choose so as long as you link them in your Tumblr posts if they are off-site. All ratings are allowed, so long as NSFW work is properly tagged. You can add your AO3 works on our designated category for the event here: smlgbtqweek2024. We also have a Twitter for the event you can tag and we will retweet your works there too!

Submissions should have an LGBTQ+ character, ship or topic at their core along with the daily theme. It doesn't have to focus on or even include a ship, given this week also celebrates asexuality and trans identities! M/F pairings are allowed as long as one of the characters is LGBTQ+ and the work references their queerness. Bi/Pan people in m/f relationships are still queer and valid. This also applies to trans people in m/f relationships. Basically, as long as you're writing/ drawing/creating something featuring LGBTQ+ character(s), you're golden.

I know sometimes we do things when we're not feeling very well that we regret. I know sometimes we get so far progress wise, but then we revert a little bit because the day was just too much. Sometimes we even say or do things that hurt others, even if we don't mean to, but it happens.

Just remember lovelies that that doesn't make you a bad person.

We all make mistakes. We are all human, and none of us are infallible.

You are going through so much. You are dealing with the stressors of the day, of the week, of the year, of the country, of the global climate, hell you're dealing with the stressors of keeping you and your loved ones fed, and clothed and sheltered, or maybe you're dealing with a physical ailment.

Whatever it is, you're dealing with A LOT. We all have bad days.

Making mistakes is how we grow. Give yourself some grace lovelies, you deserve grace too.

Oh how I love testosterone and what it's done for me! When I talk with my new, deeper voice I sometimes find myself going :0 "Is that sound really coming out of ME? That's so cool!" The body hair is nice too, and actually not as coarse as I thought it'd be even though it's thicker + darker. It's nice having some hair on my face too, even though it's barely noticeable unless you look for it. Plus that jawline that's more square and sharp, nice! I also have a light Boy Smell to my skin, and that's been an unexpected source of euphoria for me

However, what stands out to me most isn't any of what I just mentioned: it's the happiness in my eyes and the lighter steps I take. My body feels like a much more comfortable place to exist in since I actually feel like it's mine now. Instead of being trapped in an empty house with barren walls and a sense of hollowness, my body now feels like a lived-in home with various decorations, nice furniture, and a cozy warmth to it. I smile, talk, and laugh more. I look in the mirror and see someone I've fought very hard to become, someone I relate to more and more with each passing day. I've caught a glimpse of my true / inner self looking back more than once now, and something about them is so beautiful that I can't believe it's real. Every single day that I get to exist as myself feels like the wish I've held for over 10 years coming true. I love this very much, and I'm so so grateful for the opportunity to medically transition.

Just thought I'd share some trans joy with y'all! I know things are hard right now, but just know that the world is a better place with you in it. There are people who love you as you are for who you are, and even if it feels like nobody cares, people do. Stay safe out there, drink some water, and show yourself some kindness

PRIDE MONTH PROMPTS 2024

They are here!!

Last year I released them in May, and I asked you when I should release it this year. You agreed I should release it early/mid april. And I think the perfect time is now! You have plenty of time to prepare your things for June!

So, here are 30 prompts, 1 prompt per day, for all of June! Use them for writing, or for art, or why not for something else creative you can come up with?

I will now write all the prompts in the list if it's hard to read, plus some explanations/suggestion what you can do for them.

Day 1. Actually, I'm not straight. Someone kicking off pride month by telling their nearest and dearest that they aren't straight, like everyone seems to think!

Day 2. Surprise! We're dating! A couple comes out to their friends ;)

Day 3. Early signs. Early signs someone was not straight, or not cis. Or both!

Day 4. Gender euphoria. Euphoooooriaaaaa forever to end of time /j Ok no but yeah, someone experiencing gender euphoria :) It's great :)

Day 5. Surprise! We're engaged! Surprise engagement! Did people even know they were dating?

Day 6. Proposal. You can choose to show the proposal for the couple at day 5... or a brand new couple! :D

Day 7. Pride flags. Are they making pride flags? Buying pride flags? Identifying pride flags? So much you can do! :)

Day 8. Prideful baking. A return from last year! Who's baking? Are they doing it with pride? Are they making rainbow cakes? This is also a way to make some ships be cute together as they bake.

Day 9. Wedding. To quote Sam from Glee: "YEAH! COME ON GUYS! GAY MARRIAGE GOOD!"

Day 10. Shenanigans at the Pride Parade. Time to let those characters run wild at the pride parade!

Day 11. Coming out as trans. Pretty self explanatory I think ;)

Day 12. Planning for a child. Two women, two men, maybe a trans couple... any not-cishet couple are planning for a child <3 Are they adopting? IVF? However they're doing it, they're gonna get that child :)

Day 13. Two moms. Two mommies thriving with their kiddos!

Day 14. Are they dating or not? People are speculating the relationship of some people.

Day 15. First crush. Aww, someone's first crush! Have they ever felt this before?

Day 16. Alternate universe. Go crazy with this! This could mean anything from "a universe in which this ship is canon" to "they live in a fantasy world". Do whatever!

Day 17. Realizing they're ace. Self explanatory ;)

Day 18. Two dads. Two daddies on request (Sorry I've watched too much of Papás por encargo (Daddies on request) to not make that joke). They'll do anything for the kids!

Day 19. I thought everyone liked both? What??? They don't?????

Day 20. Fruity sleepover. Anything and everything can happen at a sleepover!

Day 21. Pining. They pine so hard and yet... will their crush ever notice?

Day 22. Secret dating. Or are they as they secret as they think? How much chaos do they end up in to keep this?

Day 23. Dinner. Maybe just a normal dinner in a queer friendgroup. Or maybe someone coming out at dinner. Maybe the first dinner at their partner's house. Or maybe someone's making dinner for their loved one.

Day 24. Confession. Coming out confession? Confession to your crush? Just a confession about your favorite food in the middle of a pride parade? Yeah, you decide!

Day 25. Date. THEY'RE ON A DATE THE BABIES!!! Is it a good date? I hope so!

Day 26. Gender is a construct. Not everything is binary.

Day 27. Queer group meeting. You can toy around with this a lot. A group meeting with closeted gays? A group meeting with every character from your different fandoms that you headcanon as bi that you want to interact in the group meeting for disaster bi's? A group meeting for aces just vibing? Maybe we'll meet a lot of different groups!

Day 28. Accidental coming out. Oops!

Day 29. Alternate time period. You want to play out a little love story but instead they live in the 1950s? Or maybe they live in the future! Maybe they live in the medieval times! Woah!

Day 30. Growing old together. Look at them now. Who knew they'd find each other in the world and now they're here?

Miss Major is still fighting for trans rights after 50 years of resistance

her latest project – a sanctuary for trans and gender-nonconforming people that she built on the property where she lives in the southern conservative state. She first called it House of GG, after her initials, but recently renamed it Tilifi, which stands for Telling It Like It Fuckin’ Is, something Miss Major is exceptionally good at doing. Next door to her house, connected by a path she painted bright yellow, is the Oasis, a guest home where she invites trans leaders and loved ones to stay, with a singular goal: to rest and relax. “I’ve gotta make joy here, because it doesn’t exist in the normal world,” says Miss Major … Visibility, she says, means the deaths of her people are now counted, but it doesn’t mean their lives are being saved and protected: “We got gay marriage, yay! But that doesn’t affect transgender people. The girls are being murdered more and more each year.” She rolls her eyes at the order of the LGBTQ+ acronym: “The T should be first. We’re integral.” … “They want us to live in the 1950s. No. Get off our fucking backs and let us live. They try to push us back – well, that means we gotta put the gloves on and fight again,” she says. “We have to get rid of the people in charge – the 70- and 80-year-olds who hold us down, who want to try to suppress us. SM LGBTQ+ Week 2023!

The second annual Sailor Moon LGBTQ+ Week takes place the week of June 18-24, 2023 (during Pride Month).

You may post your works on Tumblr, AO3, Deviantart, or anywhere you choose so as long as you link them in your Tumblr posts if they are off-site. All ratings are allowed, so long as NSFW work is properly tagged. You can add your AO3 works on our designated category for the event here: smlgbtqweek2023. We also have a Twitter for the event you can tag and we will retweet your works there too!

Submissions should have an LGBTQ+ character, ship or topic at their core along with the daily theme. It doesn't have to focus on or even include a ship, given this week also celebrates asexuality and trans identities! M/F pairings are allowed as long as one of the characters is LGBTQ+ and the work references their queerness. Bi/pan people in m/f relationships are still queer and valid. This also applies to trans people in straight relationships. Basically, as long as you're writing/ drawing/creating something featuring LGBTQ+ character(s), you're golden.

On this day, 28 June 1969, the Stonewall rebellion began in the early hours. The New York Police Department, as part of its policy of closing gay bars, raided the Stonewall Inn, which had a substantial poor and working class LGBT+ clientele. However, for the first time in the city, rather than submitting to arrest, a crowd began to gather around the police. Inside the bar, gender nonconforming people, trans women and lesbians began resisting invasive body searches. And outside a butch lesbian fought back against police when they arrested her, calling on the crowd that had formed to “do something.” According to some eyewitnesses and her own account, this individual was Stormé DeLarverie, a biracial lesbian and drag performer, who was known as a “guardian of lesbians” in the Village, although this is disputed by others who point to the fact that the only police record for a lesbian arrested that night was of a Marilyn Fowler. The crowd, which included a significant number of Black, Latine, and white LGBT+ patrons and passersby, then began to physically fight the police, triggering riots that lasted for six days. Those involved in the disturbances included activists like Marsha P. Johnson and John O’Brien, popular folk musician Dave Van Ronk, as well as many others. In the aftermath, participants and other LGBT+ radicals set up the Gay Liberation Front, which revolutionised the gay rights movement. They organised anniversary protests on June 28 the following year in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and elsewhere. I love when questionable grammar and the whole "we're expecting a child" phrasing makes it sound like random cis men are trans.

"On June 21, 2021, Lixian announced on Twitter that he was expecting a child.[14] His child was born on August 22, 2021.[2]"

Honestly such a catch-22 with people when you want to make trans characters. Make them "pass" too much and its "unrealistic", dont make them "pass" and theyre "bad rep", and god forbid if you make them morally nuanced instead of perfect representation paragons. Sometimes seems the only way everyone will ever be happy about trans characters is if you never mention theyre trans at all :/

Exactly! Like I can't win either way and that's why I don't give a shit lol. Like if I were to do anything offensive or out of line, I would want people to correct and educate me. I am not a trans woman, but in an ideal world, I would have several black trans women on my writing and production team so they can use her as a canvas to tell their stories and perspectives. I'm here to write a queer story about generational trauma, societal pressures pushed on black women, and how mental health is often treated in the black community. Her being trans is her gender identity, not the focus of her story. That doesn't mean it isn't important when writing certain plot points or developing her backstory, but it also isn't the only thing that makes June, well June. The way to destigmatize and normalize having trans characters in media is to make your characters trans and write a good plot. That's it. It doesn't have to be any deeper than that.
