Japanese Beetle - Popillia japonica
After a long absence, these brassy emeralds make a triumphant return to the blog! They've been long overdue, especially since I mentioned in their first post (back in 2019) I would be showing the larger populations that can be found in the neighborhood. Now granted it's not a dramatic increase, but there are many individuals here enjoying the leaves of the suburbs. As can be seen here, these hungry Beetles ignore the leaf's most prominent veins and nibble (somewhat sporadically) on the leaf itself. As generalist feeders, they aren't picky about which plants they land on so long as they are accessible and nutritious. As well, they really love fruits and flowers too! Why, it even seems one individual may even have struck gold with a daisy's pollen...and likely the flower itself if my photo evidence of rose eating remains valid. Given this information, be sure to identify them with certainty if you find them in a flower. The slightly elongated St. John's Wort Beetle is eerily similar at a glance, and yet it's from an entirely different Beetle family.
All the hallmarks of this Scarab Beetle are featured here: leaf skeletonization, iridescent shells and raising their hindlegs to act as a threat display. With regards to the latter, it may not be so readily apparent why the display is a threat. It honestly looks a little silly. However, a vigilant glance at the hindlegs reveals spines just before the midleg. I cannot speak on their strength to pierce or puncture (perhaps a post for a later day) but spines like that are a handy advantage if grabbed from the rear. Speaking of leg observations, looking are the front-most legs can actually allow you to determine if you have a male or female Beetle in your presence. If we use the mating pairs as a reference - since females are mounted by the males - you can actually see that the female Beetles have an elongated, rounded projection jutting out of the end of their tibia! In males, this feature is reduced. Knowing this information, the individual crawling along the daisy is in fact, a female specimen! You can see the tibial projection on her left leg. Do you think the Varied Carpet Beetle next to her noticed?

Three years ago today, I decided to join this fandom and I am so glad I did!
I had reblogged things randomly from a non-choices blog and liked things on my personal account but I had never really interacted with anyone or participated in the fandom. When I was in elementary school, I definitely was writing fan fiction, but then as I got older people made me feel less because of it and I stopped writing. Then I found this fandom community and decided to take a risk and pick it back up again. I never expected anyone to read it!
I'm truly grateful to everyone who has ever read or supported my writing here or on any of my blogs. You will never know how much it means to me! Thank you!
So how does one celebrate? With more fan art, obviously! 😍😍😍
One thing I've loved to do is see how different artist bring Thomas and Alex to life and I couldn't be more excited with how this latest art came out!
This adorable chibi portrait is by arssel_land on Instagram 💛
Thank you again for all your love and support. You (and HAlex) have helped me survive the last 3 years on this crazy planet and for that I am eternally grateful! 💖💖💖

Caddisfly Larvae - Order Trichoptera
There are many mysterious insects that have the ability to live, hunt and flourish beneath the water's surface. In some instances, special adaptations are necessary in order to keep safe and remain inconspicuous while crawling among rocks and river plants. These Caddisfly Larvae have been previously seen in a video post recorded many years ago showcasing them in their various house-casings, the ways in which they might appear as debris in the water, and some examples of locomotion. The pictures of the larvae here are intended to provide a second look at the many houses they have built on their back. As can be seen, all materials of the river/streambed are fair game if they can be bound with silk. It appears there's still need for more renovations and material acquisition to completely conceal their bodies and fortify their "shell". As indicated by their size (but it could be a matter of the specie as well), these Caddisflies are still relatively small and possibly still in their early instars.
Do note: although these are "aquatic insects", the young of Caddisflies are called larvae, and not naiads or nymphs. Allow me to explain the difference between the three. By appearances, larvae and naiads do appear to have a lot in common since the young look dramatically different upon full maturity, but in reality it's more of an in-between with nymphs. The foundation of the designations come from the types of metamorphosis in the insect would. To be specific, insects with young called "larvae" metamorphose into their new adult form via a pupa (e.g. Beetles, Hymenopterans, and of course Caddisflies). Insects with young called "nymphs" molt into their adult forms over many instars, but there is no pupa nor drastic change in overall appearance or morphology (e.g. True Bugs, Orthopterans). Finally, insects with young called "naiads" also molt into the adult forms over many instars. However, they do not need a pupa to reach adulthood (there's a subadult stage) and there is drastic change in overall appearance upon reaching adulthood. Examples of naiad insects include Odonates and Stoneflies, and both orders are also water-dwelling insects. All this in mind, since a Caddisfly resembles an elongated crawler while young, pupates and then emerges (onto land) transformed into a tent-winged form, its young are called larvae, and while similar in appearance, Trichopterans are not Lepidopterans. Sigh, it's a great big bug world out there!

2. i still want you by Bibirikun [E, 53K, 7ch]
“After years on the road, Sasuke is back in Konoha. Consumed by his love for Naruto, the young shinobi is craving for his friend's tenderness. But something dark and mysterious has awakened inside him and won't let him live peacefully.”
3. A Crown of Peonies and Primrose by shinigami714  [E, 85K, 10ch]
“Sasuke had never excelled when it came to handling his emotions. All his life he’d tried to push them aside. They made him weak, or so he thought. But all it took was one man to ignite such strange feelings within him, to force him to come to terms with them, accept them, and acknowledge that sometimes emotions weren’t a weakness at all, but rather one’s greatest strength. Sometimes the greatest happiness was found simply by following your heart.”

one year had passed, I'm now happy but rarely happy like almost incredible happy not bc I have my perfect body, actually I still hate it but I'm over a year for the relationship I have and our anniversary was like 5 months ago igss
but I've been cleaning my camera roll and a lot of screenshots made me remember who I used to be and now I can only think of those times with hurt, I never realised how depressed I was and how much I hated myself, i remember thinking that I was at my peak but actually it was my worst
