Page 2. ---- Close of 1,200 Attend Meeting of Protest Against Nazi Activities --- The civilized nations of the world. should protest the burning of Jewish books in Germany, declared Rabbi Osher Zilberstein at a protest meeting against the recent Nazi actions held in the Hebrew Free school Wednesday night.

A large audience, numbering close to 1,200, attended the meeting to hear Rabbi Zilberstein, Dr. I. Pearlman, Marcus Hyman, and several other speakers. Ald. M. A. Gray was in the chair.

Rabbi Zilberstein said the protest of the world should say. "Give up your powder and guns, you modern barbarians; such things are a danger, even in the hands of civilized people, much more so in yours; put on bow and arrow and turn back to your woods." He characterized the burning of the books as a "horrible exhibition" and an "insane practice."

The modern mediaevals of Germany burned the records of physics, mathematics, medical science, music and art, only because they were of Jewish authorship. Such things could only be condemned and pitied. Hitler had tried for 14 years to show that the Jews were responsible for Germany's troubles, and later for the world's, but now he was demonstrating that they were responsible only insofar as Einstein's Theory of Relativity, Freud's Psychoanalysis and Heine's poems were.

Dr. Pearlman stated that that not only were the Hitlerites destroying the best that had been created in their world of literature, but an integral part of German culture."They may destroy the books, but they will never succeed in destroying the spirit contained in them," declared S. Miller, another speaker.

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered outside the downtown Vancouver hotel where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was speaking Thursday night to pressure him to cut off Canadian military support for Israel. Dozens of demonstrators lay under white sheets outside the Westin Bayshore hotel in Coal Harbour, where Trudeau was speaking at a private Liberal Party fundraiser.  Surrounding those on the ground, several hundred more were seen waving Palestinian flags and signs saying "Free Palestine" amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Organizers with the grassroots group Independent Jewish Voices (IJV) said the event was to show solidarity with Palestinians and call on Canada to do more to end the conflict.

the new canadian miniseries "Little Bird" sounds fascinating. has anyone else heard about it?

an older jewish woman named golda adopts a 5 year old native girl, thinking she's an orphan and has no home. she raises her as a jew and names her esther. when esther is in her 20s, she finds out that she does in fact have family, and that she had been forcibly taken from them by the canadian government as one of the scoop children in the 60s. esther now wants to reconnect with her native heritage and family, while struggling with the judaism she was raised in.

golda has to come to terms with her own complicity in removing a native child from her family and culture. she's a holocaust survivor: she knows more than most exactly what that means. how can she reconcile her own history of experiencing racial oppression and discrimination with her complicity in the oppression of inidigenous canadian people?

it was created by two jewish women, one of whom is also indigenous, and is being directed by two indigenous women.

I am really looking forward to this.

Hope all is well, thsnk you for the kind ask. I think I was 15/16 when I made the infamous God Box Post currently doing the rounds again, and now that I am much older and wiser, it's time for me to come clean about a few things:

This didn't happen. At least not completely. Here was the true version of events: I was around 12 years old, and attending a Jewish Summer Camp based in my local Chabad centre. There were roughly 6 other girls in my group and our councilor is very tired, very overwhelmed, and 19 years old. Me and my buddies routinely go missing, draw on each other, and preform mysterious rituals. Every day during lunchtime, part of the camp schedule was that we all have to sit in a circle while Councilor teaches us a valuable and relevant Jewish Lesson. One day, Councilor sits down, lets out a deep sigh, and asks us the God Box question. We are respectful enough to give a straightforward answer: "we'd protect it, and keep it clean and polished." She takes a good hard angry look at all of us and says "your body's that box." I always remembered that interaction because it scared me a little bit.

So to summarize: there were no markers eaten. Why did I include that? To be silly. There was also no rabbi involved. It was just easier to say rabbi than explain the Camp Councilor situation. Thank you for reading!

Trillium Health Partners says one of its physicians received an “anti-Semitic death threat” and Peel Regional Police are now investigating the incident. Police said the incident that happened in Mississauga and is being investigated as hate-motivated. Trillium Health Partners said that on Oct. 24, a threat was made to “a team member who identifies as Jewish.” Trillium lso said it happened at a non-hospital work premises. In response to the incident, Trillium Health Partners (THP) said it increased security and is working with police and other hospitals to assess all risks to security. Wellness supports and resources were also made available.
