I think I've finally nailed down how I want the Jetko 'Zuko figures out Jet got brainwashed au,' and I'm kind of a bit excited to go about this. I've written Jetko mostly from Jet's pov (except for the red string of fate fic), and never a multi-chapter one from Zuko's pov, and it's kind of exciting to figure out how to navigate it that way. Of Zuko keeping his identity a secret, of his doubt if he can trust Jet, his doubt if he even wants to trust Jet; would he feel guilty about hiding his identity or not? How does Zuko catch feelings for Jet?
Idk, I really am just so used to tackling the ship from Jet's perspective, and it's fun to look at it from a different angle.

The current priority is the one going by "Zuko Sees Sokka Fucked Up" lol bc @witchering10123 wrote the most beautifully painful Whumptober series about Hakoda and Sokka just Going Through It and I wanted to write the last two entries from Zuko's perspective when Sokka gets found because I think that would be so good and I love pain and suffering!!
Let's see... Modern Taiwan AU is the one I'm most excited about! This will be a long one and I've never written a modern AU before but basically it's based on SKAM (particularly season 3 of Druck) so it's like a cute trans love story BUT it is also going to have a LOT to do with Taiwan's ghost month and is going to be kind of inspired my Marry My Dead Body hehehehehe
Toxic Jetko I just posted about but basically it's my take on if Zuko and Jet had tried to make things work but it really just wouldn't have. It IS based kind of note for note on a real relationship I've had in the past because the dynamic was way too Jetko and I was like wow wouldn't that be a great fanfic actually
(how terrible it is) to love something death can(‘t) touch is a FUCKING. VAMPIRE AU!!! and it's so so so far from being ready but it's uhhhhh basically like if IWTV was about Zukka and Izumi. So there is some Divorced Zukka in there and also references to asshole Zhao in flashbacks... It's going to be angsty and exciting, but probably also pretty long
i will not be great, but I’m grateful to get through is a very niche sequel to if i fade away (the awful things we do to make the head go quiet) because that is a Dead Dove fic with a cliffhanger ending and I'm excited for the healing that we will see in the sequel but it does deal with heavy shit so I haven't been super quick at writing it. It does fix the Big Problem we saw in the first one though.
ZAtD Katara Arc - So when I wrote Zuko Amongst the Dragons I rushed it a bit too much and I love the universe that has been created for it so I want to go back and revisit some stuff. I skipped over the Puppetmaster and the Southern Raiders episodes in the plot and I thought it would be cool to write something with that like a deleted scene where Dragon Zuko is with Katara dealing with these terrible things
ZAtD Izumi Epilogue - I couldn't fit this into the main story BUT I want to write like a 5-10 years later snapshot of Zukka so happy with Druk and Izumi and kind of revisit how Zuko is dealing with his humanness, and is he the Fire Lord or nah?
ZAtD Divorce Epilogue - This would be way later but I'm obsessed with the idea of Divorced Zukka BUT with their psychic connection from their Dragon Bond and like what would happen any time they get into a room together hehe
ZAtD Extended Torture Scene - This is just because I had so many ideas for when Azula interrogates Sokka at the Boiling Rock that I left out of the original fic bc it kind of disrupted the tone but I DO like whump and angst so I WOULD like to finish what I had kind of wanted for that scene muahahaha
So yeah anyway, any opinions on what I should try to finish and publish first???

"Zuko couldn’t get over her eyes. She was looking past the camera towards the man who took it. Zuko could see clear as day the love she held for Sokka in her gaze.
It was a perfect moment that Sokka had captured. No wonder held it with him at all times. If someone had looked at Zuko like that, he’d never want to see anything again.
As he took in the photograph, Sokka sat next to him in silence. His hand was clutching the ring around his neck again in his fist, pressing it close to his mouth as he peered over Zuko’s shoulder to look. Zuko turned to him to compliment the picture and saw a sad fondness lingering in his eyes."
this is a scene i wrote a while ago thats gonna appear in a much later chapter. but yeah. more yue angst for you guys im so sorry.

"Mister Sokka," a little voice wishpered in his ear as he felt tiny pokes on his cheek, "Wake up Mister Sokka."
"Good morning to you too Izumi," Sokka responded wearily as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. He looked towards the little girl who was standing on her tippy toes to see over the edge of the bed and poke his face until he rose.
She smiled at him once she realized he was awake.
"Can we have pancakes?" She asked shyly, hiding her mouth just below the edge of the bed as she looked up at him with hopeful eyes.
That look was going to be dangerous for him later on, he could aready tell.
"Sure thing, Izumi, just let me sleep for five more minutes, mkay?" He asked as he shut his eyes again. He was exhausted from last nights events, and the sun had barely risen. How did Zuko do this?"
this is a scene from the next chapter of this fic. so much sokka and izumi bonding you guys are gonna explode hehehe.

from Where'd All the Time Go? (the yuekka fic that i have severe writers block with that i also promis i have not forgotten about):
"“Sokka I really think you need to take a moment and-”
“I am fine Aang, I don’t have time for a feelings talk right now. Right now I need to find the fucking chief of this damn place.” His words came out harsher than he meant, but he didn’t have the time to dwell on that.
Before Sokka could run off again to continue his search, a hand grabbed his arm. One of Arnook’s advisors, Malina, had started dragging him towards the podium.
“Do you not realize how late you are for this Sokka? The ceremony was supposed to begin with your speech nearly an hour ago-” she hissed at him as she pulled him along through the crowd.
“Malina I’m sorry but I really need to speak with Arnook it is urgent-”
“This damn speech of yours is what’s urgent right now Sokka, you can speak with Arnook later but the guests are getting antsy so you need to give your speech right. Now.”
“But-”
“Now.”
Maline shoved Sokka towards the podium and suddenly all eyes were on him. Every guest in attendance had their focus solely on Sokka."

zuko is a little shit part 2. the amount of sarcasm i have dripping off of heath ledger zuko is glorious. let zuko be a little shit. i havent added to this in months but when i finish some of my other wips i cant wait to get back to this.
i have more wips and drafts saved but none of them have anything juicy or funny or interesting yet because all of them are like less than three pages so far

Ok, this is your typical Jetko au where Jet survives and Zuko becomes Firelord and they both try to make their relationship work and of course it's more complicated than that because Jet is Earth and worse a peasant commoner and the Fire Nation court really, really doesn't approve.
They fight about it and Zuko says that he can't just fire everyone who is against them and Jet finally loses it and says that maybe they a need break to sort this out because apparently nothing else is working right now. So he angrily walks out of the palace against Zuko's protests and takes the first ship back to the Earth Kingdom.
Zuko is more than sad about all of this while his advisors are more than happy and he really does consider firing the entirety of his court but Uncle prevents him from making that mistake. He goes after Jet a few days later but is unable to find him or any sign of him at all.
For the next month he anxiously waits for his lover to come back or for a simple message from him but instead he gets an important mail from the Earth King. So important in fact, that a high earth military official delivers it to him in person. What's this very important matter?
A marriage proposal.
From a son of the Earth King.
Zuko is shocked, the court is in a frenzy. Nobody knows what this means. Nobody even knew the Earth King had children. Is the man even married? And isn't he too young to have children that can be married off? Zuko prays to Agni that the Earth court doesn't try to set him up with a pre-teen.
But they can't just reject the proposal out of hand, they need to at least welcome an Earth Kingdom delegation, hopefully including this prince, to then diplomatically turn them down. Some of Zuko's advisors though, urge him to at least consider accepting this whole arrangement because "it's a good political opportunity (to get rid of the peasant)".
But Zuko is determined that there will be no marriage and he has these ridiculous fantasies late at night where his real prince comes to save him from this nightmare. But dreams don't just come true like that and a few weeks later the delegation has arrived, thankfully with this mysterious prince no one had ever heard of. Zuko secretly hopes that he really is just a child so he can firmly and resolutely be done with this and finally go searching for his real love.
The carriage with the prince arrives in a grandiose fashion, full of splendor and pomp. Zuko holds his breath while the doors are opened and a tall figure in expensive silks comes out. He hopes the guy is ugly but when he got to finally see his face Zuko nearly chokes on nothing but air because... because...
It's fucking Jet!

random modern jetko au
They start off as friends and they are both lying to each other about their identities.
Jet works random jobs but is secretly a hacktivist who scams rich people.
Zuko part-times at his Uncle’s tea shop and is trying to finish his Master’s degree after being kicked out by his (now jailed) former billionaire father.
When they finally figure out what each other’s deal is, they don’t know what to think and are betrayed at first.
Jet comes to Zuko’s workplace one day and just stayed until Zuko talked to him. They admit to missing each other and trying their friendship one more time.
Jet and Zuko co-parent a puppy even before they get together. They find him during a rainy day hiding in a dumpster.
Zuko wanted to name the dog something cool like dragon or fang. Jet ended up calling the puppy Bins because they found him in the trash.
Their first kiss was supposed to be a joke because Zuko said he’d never fall in love with someone like Jet and Jet bet one kiss could change that.
Zuko called Jet “babe” one time and Jet is still reeling.
Jet loves the fact that it’s so easy to make Zuko flustered and Zuko adores how Jet blushes over every little gift.
They adopt another stray dog this time Jet lets Zuko name it. Zuko names their second pet Duck.

Hello! Thanks for sending the prompt. Oh Jetko, my sweet summer ship. This is going to be an AU where Katara does heal Jet, and he, Longshot, and Smellerbee travel with team Avatar. Longshot and Smellerbee end up with Haru and them when they split up at the Western Air Temple. Jet was off doing... something when Katara found Zuko and Iroh, so the catacombs scene still happened. When Zuko shows up at the Western Air Temple, Jet and Katara both give him a really hard time. Sorry I feel like that was a lot of explanation, I hope you enjoy this!
30. Weak, sweaty kisses because it’s unbearably hot.
Zuko sat on the sand, letting his feet rest at the water’s edge, and stared out at the horizon. He was physically exhausted from another morning of training the Avatar, but his mind was whirring, replaying the events of his field trip with Katara. Combined with the emotions that welled up within him at returning to his family’s beach house, and Zuko knew he had no chance at an afternoon nap.
Zuko was drawn from his morose thoughts when someone sat next to him. “Hey,” Jet muttered, not looking at Zuko, as he carefully sat within reach without touching him. Zuko nodded and turned his attention back to the skyline.
“Seems like you won Katara over with your little field trip,” Jet said around a stalk of grass. Zuko shrugged, dropping his hands to the sand.
“She got the closure she needed. That’s all that matters.” Jet snorted.
“And now she trusts you?” He scoffed. “You can’t tell me that wasn’t why you took her.”
Zuko let out a heavy sigh. There would never be a good time to have this conversation. It was always hot, too hot, to think straight. The comet was coming soon. Zuko had to train the Avatar. There were so many reasons for him to brush Jet off and head inside. Instead, he turned to face him.
“I realized Katara had connected her anger with me with her anger over losing her mother. I knew if there was something I could do to help her let go of that anger, I had to. Regardless of what she thought of me after, she deserved the closure,” Zuko said slowly. Jet still refused to meet his eye, even as he responded.
“I didn’t realize you were so level-headed, firebender.” He spat the last word like it left a foul taste in his mouth. Zuko sighed, his hands fidgeting in the sand.
“I guess there’s a lot about me you don’t know.”
They both remained silent for a few minutes, the crashing waves the only disturbance to the silence. When Jet spoke again, his voice was so soft Zuko wasn’t sure he heard him.
“I guess I’d like to get to know you then.”
Zuko turned, shocked, to face Jet again. “I thought you still hated me.”
Jet laughed, though his eyes didn’t dance with amusement like they did when Sokka cracked a joke. “I wish I hated you. But I don’t.” He finally met Zuko’s gaze, his green eyes boring holes into his soul. “I don’t think I can.”
“Oh.” Zuko blinked, feeling a flush spreading up his neck. If pressed, he would blame it on the heat.
“Yeah.”
“So what now?”
In answer Jet closed the distance between them, leaning over to kiss Zuko. It was a weak kiss, too oppressed by the heat to be anything more, but Zuko still sighed against his lips. He tasted like sweat and grass and mango. When Jet pulled back he met Zuko’s gaze.
“I guess we’ll figure it out as we go,” he suggested. Zuko nodded, tentatively placing his hand over Jet’s.
He was more than happy to see where Jet led them.

I want an AU (potentially jetko but not necessarily) in which Jet doesn’t immediately figure out that Iroh’s a fire bender and go all mental over it and they end up being able to have and maintain a friendship in Ba Sing Se. Then, later on, Zuko’s bending would be revealed but, by then, Jet would have character growth and would have formed a relationship with Zuko so, instead of the reaction he had in the show, it would actually change his stance on firebending by proving that there are good, trustworthy firebenders out there. This would also parallel Zuko Alone and his experience with Li and how he had been accepted but was then violently rejected once his bending was revealed. On Zuko’s end, this would mean that he’d have formed a meaningful relationship with someone other than Iroh, which would be the first friend he’d have outside of the Fire Nation. Hearing Jet’s take on the war, combined with the experiences he’d have had with Song, Li, and Jin, and maybe also with that scene with Katara in the catacombs as the final push, he would be able to let go and give up his hunt for Aang.

Alright, here you go @unfried-mouth-wheat
First actual writing piece I’ve posted on tumblr, largely unedited except for a few typos, and I took this challenge but forgot I can’t write angst so there’s that as well
A one-shot per our challenge with some very very light Jetko perhaps setting up for more of this AU later, I decided to talk about the features Iroh and Zuko share, I figured that would be good
Also feat. Smellerbee helping Jet because I raised her right and she’s my favorite character in all 3 seasons of the show

Lee’s eyes looked familiar to Jet.
Not only were they the scarred, tired eyes of many of his fighters, a permanent expression he knew all too well, but they were honey-gold… something Jet couldn’t place and hadn’t seen often before. He had seen a lot. He had seen the bright green eyes of the earth kingdom most often, but he had also had the pleasure of seeing the bright, ocean-blues of the Southern Water Tribe- a color he could only assume belonged to the Northerners, too.
But he hadn’t seen this recently. He hadn’t seen it on anybody with the avatar, he hadn’t seen it on anybody in the village, and he couldn’t remember seeing it in his fighters…
It was an old, old memory. Most of those, Jet didn’t care to dig up. But it was killing him.
He had to avoid looking like a freak all through dinner, sneaking glances up at Lee, wondering where this uncle was that he kept bringing up.
“He might just be resting. He’s an old man- they do that,” Lee excused. Jet couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
“He must have been sleeping all day, then.”
“No, he was there when you came up to me today. He just didn’t look at you.”
Jet could vaguely recall that. Strange that he wouldn’t look, though.
“Alright,” he said with a nod. “Make sure you save some food for him, though… Don’t want him to miss out on it.”
Lee almost smiled. Jet could always tell when somebody almost smiled, he’d gotten better over time, learning the skill while trying to fish laughter out of a small, angry, scared Smellerbee days after they had met.
What a time that was.
It wasn’t in the cheeks or the mouth at all, really. It was about how the eyes widened, the brief crinkle at the edge, and if the person was especially surprised, the eyebrows would go, too.
Lee’s did. Only the one, but it was enough of a tell for Jet. Jet smiled back, a warm, friendly smile, to tell Lee that it was okay.
But Lee’s cold, stoic expression returned moments later.
Jet didn’t expect any more, but his heart still sank a little bit.
He wouldn’t say he wanted to see Lee smile. But that’s just because he wouldn’t say he was upset at all.
If he were to be honest… that’s exactly what he wanted.
The conversation grew quiet after that. The silence wasn’t terrible. It was a little tense thanks to Lee and the permanent stick up his butt, but it was just comfortable enough to survive.
Jet tried to keep sneaking glances. He had to figure out those eyes.
He knew he had seen them. He knew it.
At one point, he stared a little too long. Maybe he was looking at Lee’s eyes… maybe he had let himself wander around the rest of his face. Either way, Smellerbee elbowed him. He jerked away.
Looking back at his bowl, Jet heard footsteps toward them. Slow, heavy ones.
And then a voice… that was familiar.
Jet looked back up.
The eyes.
He dropped his bowl. Before he knew what was happening, he was running away, dodging through the people.
Those were the eyes that looked back at him, the fire glowing up the night, slathering a hot, orange hue over everything, the night his village was burned.
Those were the eyes that murdered his family.
It wasn’t until he was up against a wall multiple twists and turns away that he stopped, panting. Smellerbee and Longshot weren’t far behind, and they came up to him. Longshot tried to make sense of things while Smellerbee fretted over him.
“What happened?” She asked. But Jet couldn’t hear anything over the ringing in his ears as he sank down the wall, tears slipping down his cheeks.
Those were the eyes. And that sick bastard had the nerve to smile, after all he did… that wasn’t the same smile he saw, but it was the same face, he knew it. Jet never forgot a face.
Smellerbee knelt beside him and ran a hand through his hair.
“Hey- it’s okay, take a breath…” She whispered.
He didn’t understand a word of it. He just buried his face in her shoulder and hid.
“He took my family!” Jet cried.
“Jet, it’s not him, he’s a refugee,” Smellerbee said. “It’s alright.”
But Jet knew.
“You… you have to believe me!” He said, pulling her back and taking her by the shoulders.
“Jet! You have to stop for a second.”
Jet shook his head and let go of her, wrapping his arms around himself. “He’s not safe… he’s- I know it’s him! I know! It has to be!”
He curled up and Smellerbee held him, shushing him softly while he sobbed.
That old man got to go to Ba Sing Se… he was probably going to try and conquer.
He got to enjoy a nice, hot meal on a boat ride, courtesy of Jet, his fighters, and the heroes that worked to protect the Earth Kingdom and her people. And then he would go into a city that was supposed to be safe, and he would take it over.
That old man killed Jet’s family… and now he was going to win the war for the Fire Nation.
He couldn’t. If that happened, the Earth Kingdom was doomed.
The world was doomed.
“Hey…” Smellerbee said soothingly. For the first time, Jet could hear it. He felt her rub his back in circles. “Take a deep breath… Start over, you’re panicking and we can’t understand you.”
Jet’s heart was still racing, but it was like the world had frozen. He couldn’t speak. He couldn’t move. He could only cry and let out the occasional whine like he wanted to speak, but just… couldn’t find the words.
Smellerbee shook her head and kept trying to comfort him. “It’s alright… I’ve got you.”
Jet didn’t know when he stopped rocking in her arms. All he knew was that the next morning, he woke up on his mat and saw the old man sleeping not too far away.
Something had to be done. Jet was going to make sure the world saw justice, and, more importantly, he was going to make sure the city was safe from the menace… and his nephew, too.
Why had he ever trusted them?

More toughts on Fem!Zuko/Usha AU Part 2

Now on the other point on interest, how Uncle Iroh’s masculinity affects Usha here.
First we have to talk about how Usha see man, marriage and submission. She is raised not as a possible heir but mostly to be betrothed an ally as she is considered non qualified as her sister that could have a chance to be the next firelord. She is trained on modals and households to be a good wife and, as I said before, diplomacy and politics to make this union the most profitable. She accepts her role and believes her marriage would be as her parents. We tend to emulate our parents for better or worse, most our relationships mirror our parents, so Usha probably accepted that marriages aren’t happy or loving, even more in royalty, you’ll be lucky if you marry someone who is apathic towards you. She accepts that men are violent, physically and psychologically, being Uncle Iroh, and probably Lu Ten, the exception to the rule. As long as she complies to Ozai’s standards and becomes useful she can may be loved. Again as she doesn’t want Azula to suffer from Ozai’s abuse she might think that is her duty as the firstborn and as princess to carry on with it as her mother did.
On a side note, Ozai’s burning her might be a new level of physical abuse, which could be one of the reasons why Usha feels the way she does, she has become accustomed to Ozai’s abuse and trying to not anger or disappoint him, she has learn more or less how to tip toe around so this is a physical proof that she has wronged her father that she has stepped out of line in a terrible way, it is in the end her fault.
So with all this information we can start theorize about her time before finding aang on the warship. I’m gonna use @kyuuley drabbles as a base because they are amazing and I think they illustrate very well what could have been Usha’s time on the ship. We can take three things out of them: 1) the first six months, give it or take, she behaved like a perfect little princess 2) She doesn’t seem afraid of the crew and 3) there are women on the ship.
We can theorize that this three connect and influence Usha’s behavior. First, we can say that the first six months she was on one hand still recovering emotionally and physically of her injuries and on the other she might have been testing the waters, she was out of her element, she had to adapt to her new normality and being instructed in diplomacy and politics, she probably was observing and waiting to learn what to do or how to act. During this observations she could have notice that the crew was easy going and even respectful of the women on board, that combined with her status could have make her feel, if not safe, in charge.
Combined with her emotional state…poor crew.
Mentioning the last point again, the women, this is, in my opinion, VERY IMPORTANT, first because feminine contention and connection, don’t try to tell me these women wouldn’t go big sis/mother hen with her, don’t try. Feminine contention and connection is very important for women development, trust in another women and seeking knowledge in another women can be very positive. On their drabble Proper Education because of a situation, Satomi, one of the women on the ship, decides the princes has the right to learn about sex, having an EXCELLENT moment when Kyo, other of the women on it, ask if they have known or not about what they were doing. Not only this is an amazing resource and interesting point to make but can illustrate how the knowledge and support of an older woman can help on our development. Now Usha would understad what certain acts are and that she has to chose if engage in them or not, being easier for her to understand and defend herself against unwanted advances.
In fewer words, Usha feels safe and in charge on the ship and is contained and supported by the crew.
This could eventually lead to her realizing that earlier that her father was abusive and that her Uncle isn’t the exception but the rule or at least that there are more many men that treat their spouses and daughters with respect and kindness, that without counting that in certain places harming your spouse and children could get you in jail or beaten.
If we wanted to apply it to relationships, yes, I’m talking about Jetko because I like this ship, It could help her to establish boundaries and recognize abusive or manipulative behaviors. Basically she wouldn’t take shit and will establish what is okay or isn’t in her eyes. Wich could put Jet in line, so no stalker behavior, or very light. He will have to work hard to get the girl. And yes, hilarity ensues.
She would get into a crisis a bit earlier than in cannon, going through the process of mourning during the first season to finish it on season two, where she can establish herself on her new life without guilt or anger, freeing Appa by her own choice and conviction without breaking down or having this breaking point earlier on her journey.
The mourning process establish the following: 1) A crisis arise, 2) Negation, 3) Anger, 4) Negotiation, 5) Depression, 6) Acceptation and finally 7) Learning
1) The crisis: Usha begins to realize her father’s abuse wasn’t right or normal and that she didn’t deserve it
2) Negation: She can’t accept this fact so she focus on her training and searching for the Avatar.
3) Anger: She doesn’t make any progress wich makes her angry and later directs her anger towards the gaang when aang wakes up.
4) Negotiation: She starts to try negotiate between what she feels, what she knows, what she has been teach and what is right. Maybe this period starts after the blue spirit, reaching its peak when she ruins Zhao’s plans and saves the spirit and Yue.
5) Depression: It could be trigger by the fight with Azula, here it could cut even more deeply. Now she not only becomes a traitor but has to bare with the harsh truth that her father can be wrong and that her sister will gleefully chase her. She still failed.
Zuko/Usha Alone will be the pinnacle of this and the possible transition to the next point.
6) Aceptance: Usha finally starts accepting and understanding that she was abused and that it wasn’t normal nor her fault. This could intertwine with her time in Ba Sing Se, living a new life.
7) Learning: Once she accepts the reality of her father abuse and how his actions, and by consequently the war, are wrong, she starts to learn from her experiences and decide what to do, does she wants to get involved with the war or she prefers to hide and resign to her past? Maybe one of the actions that could determine her decision could be the liberation of Appa.
On another point, something that was mentioned on the Azula’s video was “the rescue parent”, a parental figure that comes to “save” the child of the situation they are in. To Zuko his rescue parent was obviously Iroh, which repeats on this AU. Azula doesn’t have a rescue parent on the series which could be an important point here, with Usha trying to reach Azula’s and rescue her, showing her another way of being driven by what she realized and by this more maternal feeling she could develop over her. Azula would most probably reject her intents, relating them to her mother and weakness, fear is power, love is weakness, the only one who loves her is her father, her mother thought she was a monster so Usha must do the same.

Chapter two of The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows is up!
Jet nods. “I like the city. I like the bustle and meeting new people– not too many new people to meet in Gaipan, not that I was trying to meet anyone new there. But sometimes, I miss this. Being up high. And the quiet, just the sounds of the forest. I’ve never lived anywhere with so few trees.”
Gaipan. Zuko can’t be certain he’s ever heard of it before. Most of his knowledge of the Earth Kingdom comes from the coastal towns, the colonies, and the prominent cities. He’s traveled much of it, but couldn’t say where he’s been; most has been on foot, just knowing to head east and then north, inward and towards theoretical safety.
“Why’d you leave?” Zuko can venture a guess; likely the same reason as every other refugee that has flowed into the city. No one leaves their home without there being no other option.
For a moment, his mind drifts to the palace gardens, and the tranquility of the turtleduck pond.
“I think–” Jet starts, and then stops suddenly. He’s frowning; not upset, but deep in thought. “I think that something bad happened. Something I did.” His frown deepens, and he shakes his head before quickly saying, “But that’s in the past, right? Doesn’t matter anymore.
Not for the first time, Zuko lingers there, on the strangeness of what Jet has said. The glossing over and brushing off of a memory outside of his grasp. How untroubled he is by it.
