While marginally MicroMessaging, the audience reach of Jenny Holzer's Truisms on the marquees in 1995 was still limited in New York's Times Square. Most people avoided or traversed Times Square very quickly back then.

#Herstory #UnDíaComoHoy #JennyHolzer (Gallipolis, Ohio, 29 de julio de 1950) #artista conceptual estadounidense, originalmente artista abstracta, pero después de trasladarse a NY, comenzó a trabajar con textos. Estos han aparecido en camisetas, carteles, bancos de mármol, envolturas de condones, sus palabras han sido proyectadas en edificios de gobiernos y corporativos de todo el mundo. Usando la retórica de los sistemas de información con el fin de hacer frente a las Injusticias. Durante sus estudios de máster, en 1975, comienza a interesarse por el lenguaje, la instalación y el arte público, tomando, inicialmente, el espacio urbano como marco para sus proyectos. En su búsqueda de modos más directos para llegar con su mensaje artístico al público general, comienza a utilizar medios de comunicación no tradicionalmente artísticos, desde carteles y pancartas en la vía pública, hasta anuncios electrónicos y spots televisivos. Finalmente, adoptará los letreros electrónicos por lo que es conocida hoy: esculturas de señales electrónicas led que reproducen sus mensajes o textos en un constante bucle. Durante los últimos años ha desarrollado principalmente proyectos a gran escala para lugares públicos, con proyecciones de luz que iluminan fachadas en entornos urbanos, así ríos o montañas. Plantea problemas y demandas sociales. Usa los códigos comunicativos léxicos, aunque los modifica para enfatizar textos y voces proyectadas que los convierten en artificiosos medios de concienciación. Le dio así la vuelta radicalmente al modelo el lenguaje empleado por los artistas conceptuales. Los textos de la artista son directos, posiblemente por esto mismo son criticados; por esconder una supuesta ambición moralizante y didáctica a la vez. Holzer transmite mensajes, sentencias, tesis y antítesis sobre cuestiones tabúes como sexo, violencia, amor, guerra y muerte. Cuestiona en sus obras los códigos visuales y verbales dominantes que aparecen en los mass media. Originalidad, apropiación, autoría, discurso o deconstrucción, serán temas comúnmente abordados por la artista. I am an honest person. I am content with myself and the things I do. My work fills me with a sense of purpose. I feel like I am making the world a better place every day. I have everything I need in life and I can achieve anything I want to achieve. I feel no pressure to exist and I find happiness in small things every day. I have a community around me that supports me and I have no trouble finding people I relate to and forming deep meaningful relationships. I feel appreciated by everyone around me. In the words of Okoro, the presentation ‘encourages us all to consider ways of decentering ourselves from the prevalent anthropocentric narrative, to reimagine a more intimate relationship with the earth and to renew our connection with the life-force energy that surges through all of creation, both human and more-than-human.’
