“THE BLUE MAN” @ THE HOTEL CAUMONT IN AIX... YVES KLEIN
A complete cycle After 18 months of living like a true Aixoise (who/that belongs to Aix), I’ve become quite complacent. There’s so much art, beauty, and history it can be challenging focused on my UMW classes (online.) The last few months I have secluded myself to improve my French and save money.  I joined a friend for a late afternoon tour of the Yves Klein exhibit at the Hotel Caumont (in…

Yves Klein
Blue Monday is the most depressing day of the year, however the colour Blue for Yves Klein, or more specifically IKB, was a colour that had a quality close to pure space and, he associated it with immaterial values beyond what can be seen or touched.
Klein famously declared the blue sky to be his first artwork and from there continued finding radical new ways to represent the infinite and immaterial in his work. In 1947, he began making monochrome paintings, which he associated with freedom from ideas of representation or personal expression. A decade later, he developed his trademark, patented colour, International Klein Blue (IKB). He described it as ‘a Blue in itself, disengaged from all functional justification’. Klein made around 200 monochrome paintings using IKB. He used materials like water, fire, and air to construct his works.
The production of monochrome paintings was probably conceived by Klein as both a spiritual and a marketable activity. At his 1957 exhibition in Milan, he displayed a series of eleven ostensibly identical blue monochromes, each with a different price which he claimed reflected its unique spirit. As he explained: 'Each blue world of each painting, although the same blue and treated in the same way, presented a completely different essence and atmosphere. None resembled any other - no more than pictoral moments resemble each other - although all were of the same superior and subtle nature (marked by the immaterial).’
Yves Klein was a French artist and a leading member of the French artistic movement of Nouveau Réalisme. Klein was a pioneer in the development of performance art and a forerunner of minimal art and Pop Art.

People, how could we not celebrate Yves Klein, born OTD in 1928? Photos here are from 'Yves Klein: In/Out Studio' from D.A.P. & @verlagkettler This essential, 300-page overview shows how Klein transformed his life into a myth that blurred the boundary between art and biography. It includes around 300 unearthed archival photographs--many of which are published for the first time--of Klein, his works, and their production. Always an innovator, Klein spanned many mediums, boldly exploring musical composition, sculpture, performance, photography, theater, film and theoretical writing, in addition to the blue monochrome painting for which he is so famed. Reproductions of artworks are interspersed with photographs of and quotations by Klein, guiding readers through a personal history of key works such as “Leap into the Void” and the 'Monochrome and Feuer' exhibition. Most importantly, this book offers a new look behind the scenes of his performances, uncovers the genesis of his famous 'Anthropometries' and 'Fire Paintings' and portrays Klein at work in his studio, in private settings and on his travels. There are also numerous contact prints with lesser-known photos and snapshots that are not among the more famous pictures released for publication. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Klein always viewed photography as a lens through which to dramatize his subjects, and chose carefully who could photograph him. The imagery in this monograph blurs the artist’s work and life in a way that both maintains and deconstructs the myth of Yves Klein. Born in Nice, France, Klein (1928–62) created what he considered his first artwork when he signed the sky above Nice in 1947, making his earliest attempt to capture the immaterial. The artist carved out new aesthetic and theoretical territory based on his philosophical and poetic investigations of space and science, and the practice of Judo, which he described as “the discovery of the human body in a spiritual space.” Edited with text by @mattkodd Read more via linkinbio. #yvesklein @yvesklein_archives #bornotd #otd #yveskleinblue https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc5OqsROPWt/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Copied/ Knocked-off/ Faux/ Cloned/ Forged/ Inspired/ or even an Homage to YvesKlein ... whatever you want to call it, I accept…. I have only known about this artist for roughly 2 years. I have never seen a real piece by him. My #art was created out of the love of his #InternationalKleinBlue color.
