hey, my 3DS theme was finally approved!

as it turns out, hacking your 3DS is easy to do, so I immediately learned how to make a custom theme and started by making a Re-Animator theme lol

it has a custom folder, icon frame, background music, and sound effects!

the background music is the main theme, naturally

the sfx that plays when you open the lid is the first bit of music that plays when the movie starts, the sfx for the cursor is the sound of the first pencil that Herbert breaks, and the sfx for closing an app/game is the sound of Rufus hitting the wall :)

Rosie/Croz friendship headcanons:

When Rosie returned to Thorpe Abbots after he was shot down and presumed MIA, Col Jeffrey sent him to the flak house for a weekend. Croz got himself a weekend pass, and visited Rosie, who opened up about what he saw in the camps -- and Croz waited by Rosie's bedside as he slept, as a way to return a favour.

Croz read Native Son (because Sandra gave it to him), which is a different copy from Rosie's -- and they discussed the themes of the novel together. Croz might even ask Rosie about the depiction of the Jewish-American lawyer in the book, because Rosie is a Jewish-American lawyer too.

After the war, Rosie visits Croz and Jean and spends a few nights at their home, and she actually welcomed Rosie with open arms because Rosie is one of the few people that Croz can talk to about the horrors of war. Croz has nightmares/PTSD, and often stays up. Rosie and Croz will stay up together listening to jazz records, and Rosie will put over a blanket over Croz when he sleeps in the chair, the way Francie did in ep 6 for Rosie.

Rosie might even help out with Croz's kids, humming jazzy tunes as lullabies to help them go to bed.

Croz will ask Rosie about Nuremberg, about Goering, and asks Rosie how it feels to be able to hunt down and punish the monsters (while not becoming a monster himself)

It just randomly came to mind, because that's what my brain does.

I've been thinking about the twitter outrage towards INSIDE OUT 2 director Kelsey Mann stating that he and the filmmakers dropped the characters Guilt and Shame from the movie. Mann stated he felt what they were trying to do with that version of the story wasn't "fun", it was "too heavy", and it made it a kind of movie that you wouldn't want to watch again.

“I don’t want to make that movie. I want to make a movie that’s really meaningful and when you’re asked, ‘Do you want to see that movie again?’ You say, ‘Yes!’ Because those are my favorite movies. And those are the kinds of movies I want to make. And I did not want to return to that movie with that character. It’s not that funny.”

... While being as vague as possible, because this is an interview for a movie that isn't even completed nor out yet. I'm excited for the movie and I'm sure there's WAY more to Mann's comments than meets the eye, ditto the actual movie itself. Because I'm not gonna jump the gun and assume he or everyone at Pixar are a bunch of chickens trying to undermine their own strengths.

I sometimes like to imagine Twitter being a thing years and years ago...

Animated movies lose stuff all the time when being developed. Stuff that you see in the special features sections of DVDs, in the "Art Of" books, hear about in interviews, etc.... Stuff that sounds cool or stuff that you think "They should've kept that!"

Let's try one, huh?

Social media... Mid-1965. At the news of Walt Disney throwing out veteran story man Bill Peet's moodier, darker version of THE JUNGLE BOOK, the studio now moving forward with a more lighthearted, jazzy musical road trip-like approach...

"Betrayal! What has Disney come to! Have you seen THE SWORD IN THE STONE? Remember how they laid off all those animators and the whole Ink & Paint Department after SLEEPING BEAUTY flopped! They've all gone soft, I tell ya! This is going to be a DISASTER!"

THE JUNGLE BOOK was one of the highest-grossing films of 1967, a massive hit abroad, and recognized as one of the iconic Disney animated films. Would I love to travel to an alternate universe where Walt okayed Bill Peet's original take on the material? Absolutely, that movie sounded really, really cool! But I love the finished film so much, it's the reason I love animation and it's the reason why I even do what I do.

That's just one example... Could you imagine the collective moaning over the versions of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ALADDIN, and THE LION KING that got thrown out? BEAUTY AND THE BEAST originally was supposed to be more like the 1946 adaptation directed by Jean Cocteau, ALADDIN was going to be more in the vein of a '30s Cab Calloway sort-of musical, and THE LION KING was aiming to be a straight-up animated National Geographic documentary with a lot of silence and lyrical storytelling. Jeffrey Katzenberg and other then-Disney execs razored into those versions and trashed them...

I'm sure there were a select few who noticed back then, but I digress.

Or how about a sequel, for that matter? THE RESCUERS sequel was originally supposed to be like a James Bond movie, complete with a Bond-esque mouse who accompanies Bernard and Miss Bianca on a mission involving the Soviet Union! But a little movie called CROCODILE DUNDEE happened, and there was a brief sort-of Aussie rage going on in America... So, those executives told the filmmakers to chuck the Bond-style RESCUERS 2, and have it be set in the land down under... Thus it became THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER.

I love that film, and it's a fan favorite of many... But that Bond-style movie also sounded really, really cool! Social media in 1988 or whatever would've been like "What??? They threw out that awesome-sounding movie so they can chase CROCODILE DUNDEE??? That movie will be irrelevant in a few years!"

But it happened...

The epic KINGDOM OF THE SUN becoming the goofy THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE, oh yeah that wouldn't be greeted too kindly. I'll throw in a Pixar example, too: Social media would've probably salivated over the "Black Friday" version of TOY STORY.

2017 Napa Valley A Cappella Extravaganza — VoicePlay live performances

Three years after their previous appearance, VoicePlay returned to northern California as the professional headliners for the annual high school and collegiate vocal festival in Yountville.

J.None was excited to hit the road with the guys after performing with them at Disney World for the previous two months.

When you're singing for other a cappella singers, it's hard to go wrong with a little musical theater. VoicePlay has plenty of Broadway material in their repertoire, and this was the most recent addition at the time.

Jeffrey Allen Townes (born January 22, 1965), better known by his stage name DJ Jazzy Jeff or simply Jazz, the Philly native is a DJ, producer, and actor. He began djing as early as ten years old and would DJ block parties throughout high school. He is best known for his solid friendship and works with Will Smith. Their friendship never missed a beat Jazz was featured in various episodes of Will Smith’s show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and was one of the best characters on the show. As a rap duo, Will and Jazz was the first rap group to receive a Grammy. Their successful classic summer single “ Summertime” earned them a second Grammy and was number 4 on the Billboard charts. Jazz is a DJ that makes the rapper look good. Some folks only link him to Will Smith, the rapper. People fail to realize he is a prominent DJ in the Hip Hop community. He will stream some of his sets on his website or YouTube.I believe he’s an underrated DJ and should get more credit. Jazz travels the globe djing gigs in exciting places.

Smith started as the MC of the hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, with his childhood friend Jeffrey "DJ Jazzy Jeff" Townes as turntablist and producer. Townes and Smith were introduced to each other by chance in 1985, as Townes was performing at a house party only a few doors down from Smith`s residence, and he was missing his hype man. Smith enlisted a friend to join as the beatboxer of the group, Clarence Holmes (Ready Rock C), making them a trio. Philadelphia-based Word Records released their first single in 1986 when A&R man Paul Oakenfold introduced them to Champion Records with their single "Girls Ain't Nothing but Trouble," a tale of funny misadventures that landed Smith and his former DJ and rap partner Mark Forrest (Lord Supreme) in trouble.

Actor, producer, and cultural figure Will Smith is the selection of this blog. He has been a significant representative of cultural and racial diversity in many different entertainment fields today. Before we dive into why Smith ties in so well with our semester themes of race, ethnicity, and cultural diversity, here is a little background regarding his upbringing. “Smith started as the MC of hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, with his childhood friend Jeffrey Townes as producer, as well as Ready Rock C (Clarence Holmes) as the human beat box. The trio was known for performing humorous, radio-friendly songs, most notably “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and “Summertime.” They gained critical acclaim and won the first Grammy awarded in the Rap category in 1988, putting him at 20 years old” (IMDb Inc). “In 1990, his popularity increased dramatically when he starred in the popular television series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The show ran for six seasons (1990-96) on NBC and has been syndicated consistently on various networks since then” (IMDb Inc) which we will be discussing further as well. Amongst all, Will Smith has seemingly broken barriers by portraying complex and multifaceted African American characters within the films and movies he has been a part of, as well as challenging stereotypes within his career and providing a well-rounded name for African American identities.

Takaki often discusses the struggles and triumphs of African Americans throughout history and highlights how they have fought against systemic racism and discrimination. Will Smith’s career is a parallel to these ideas. In a quote that Will Smith said during an interview regarding a newer film he was a part of, he states, “Everybody is prejudiced. Everybody has their life experiences that make them prefer one thing over another - it makes them prefer blonde hair over a brunette; if you see somebody with dark skin walking down the street, you have a different reaction than you have with someone who is 5 foot 1 and white. But there is a connotation with racism of superiority: You feel that your race generally is superior” (ABC News). His quote means that everyone has biases or preferences based on their life experiences. However, racism goes beyond just having preferences, it involves believing that one race is superior to others. While everyone might have biases, racism involves thinking that your race is better than others. Smith often shares his personal reflections and insights on race, diversity, and inclusion throughout his Instagram. Through his own experiences and observations, he brings attention to issues such as systemic racism, prejudice, and the importance of embracing diversity. Smith also actively supports social justice movements and makes it publicly known. He shares information about protests, fundraisers, and initiatives aimed at combating racism and promoting equality. 

Will Smith further discusses racism within his career in an interview done with Oprah Winfrey. He states, “At catholic school, no matter how well-spoken or intelligent I was, I was still the black kid in Winnefeld, no matter how up I was on the latest music or fashion, I was never quite “black enough.” I became one of the first hip hop artists who was considered “safe” enough for white audiences. But with black audiences, I was labeled “soft” because I wasn’t rapping about hard-core, gangster stuff. This racial dynamic is something that has plagued me in various forms throughout my entire life.” Attached below is the interview including this quote and a deep dive into this topic. Ultimately, Will Smith is stating here that because of his race, he felt as though he never fully belonged in one particular group.
