Bigender Jamie my beloved….

He uses he/she pronouns <3 she doesn't mind they/them (pronouns are like. not very important to her honestly. she probably couldn’t tell you what a pronoun was if you asked LMAO) but she just doesn't really connect with gender neutrality/androgyny as much as she does with manhood and womanhood as separate and coexisting entities yk

When Jamie's super little, he starts asking Georgie why there are only boys and girls and he can't be both, and instead of jumping to tell him that's just the way it is (because she wants her bub to be a free thinker. obviously), she thinks about it for a while and is like. Well. I don’t know. I suppose you can be both if you’d like? And Jamie is like “ok :) yay :)” and runs with it

Georgie lets Jamie wear/do whatever he wants. She’s a very busy woman and simply has bigger things to worry about than her child wearing a pink shirt or whatever the fuck. As long as she can afford it, she'll buy it for him, because she's just trying to keep him happy and pay the bills yk

So Jamie amasses a small collection of what he calls “girl stuff," like these types of things

which he absolutely loves and has so much fun w. He's never pressured to identify any certain type of way or change anything about himself, always allowed to experiment, and he's very comfortable until he meets his dad

James starts coming around again when Jamie’s like 10ish, and he’s horrified by Georgie’s lax stance on masculinity and makes Jamie break/cut up/throw out her "girl stuff," because he doesn't think it's at all appropriate for his "son"

Having to destroy his favorite clothes and toys while his dad berates her is super traumatic and completely alters his perception of her gender/gender as a whole. When it was just him and Georgie, Jamie sort of took it for granted that he had room to experiment and didn’t realize that most people really don’t think it’s okay, and so it's a big shock and really forces her into the closet for a long time

Then she starts at the academy and everything around her is super masculine all the time, and she really tries put it behind her and convince herself that it was a phase and she doesn't have any need to indulge in that part of herself, since she's comfortable as a man and doesn't exactly feel disconnected from manhood

But as hard as he tries to convince himself otherwise, he always feels like he's missing part of himself. He's content with the life he's living and absolutely loves being one of the lads, but there's just something missing and it's undeniable and uncomfortable and always bubbling below the surface

So she's stuck in that limbo until she starts dating Keeley. He shows her an old picture where he’s wearing a Cinderella costume at daycare or something and tells her how he used to want to be “a girl and a boy at the same time” + about the “girl stuff” and how James made him destroy it, and he recounts the whole thing like it’s a funny story (because that’s just how he processes things) and is expecting Keeley to laugh with him, but she just gives him this really sad look and tells him she's sorry that happened to him and she hopes he feels comfortable expressing himself authentically with her

Which he doesn't at first, but he acclimates, because Keeley is willing to meet him halfway and work it out with him <3 She does his makeup on occasion and they experiment with phrases like "good girl" and "girlfriend" and even subtle public expressions of femininity like jewelry and nail polish and "women's" soap/shampoo, which Jamie really loves mixing with his generally masculine presentation

At one point Keeley asks her if she thinks she's a trans woman, and she's like. ":/ I don't think so, like I don't want to be a woman all the time, I just wish I could be a lady without having to give up being a lad 😔”

And Keeley of course is like "oh like bigender?"

She says it like it's nothing, but it's the first time Jamie's ever heard that and he had no idea that that was a real option and genuinely feels like he's found something he's been looking for his entire life and literally almost cries

(You can't spell "lady" without "lad" <3)

So Jamie starts to get Girl Stuff again (including some early-aughts nostalgia items identical to the things that James made her get rid of, which is very healing) and present the way she wants to present and has never ever been happier and finally feels whole

I have a LOT of thoughts about Jamie's gender identity and his relationship with Roy and the internal conflict/shame that would arise from that, but this post is already soooo long so you guys will have to let me know if you want me to talk about all that in another post

She's mostly pretty comfortable with her body, so she forgoes gender affirming surgeries, but she does start estrogen in her mid-late 20's, which is a game changer because it makes it easier to present feminine when she wants to while also allowing her to present masculine when she wants to

He doesn't really ever come out to the team, because that's not his style. They can figure it out on their own. (If you assume she's cis that's on you etc.) And they do!!! Dani starts calling her "amiga" on tuesdays thursdays and saturdays and "amigo" on mondays wednesdays and fridays or something like that lmaooo

He does come out to Georgie and Simon tho <3 Georgie is not surprised at all and takes to adding "baby girl" and "my daughter" to her repertoire very quickly, and at the end of the day she's the person whose opinion matters most to Jamie, so it's just a huge weight off his shoulders

(Simon makes her a bi flag cake and is like "love is love <3" and Jamie is like. Hm. Well. Thank you. You're a little lost but thank you)

Jamie (very occasionally) soft-domming Roy. As a little treat for both of them.

Roy had a ring and planned to propose to Keeley in Marbella (because you know what, it's just like Roy to be like: Well, I fear this relationship is floundering and speed running towards it's inevitable conclusion. I know exactly what will fix it: a 6 week long holiday and a proposal! WHAT 🤦‍♀️ A disaster! ❌)

i'm not really a gay!Roy truther at all because i'm in too deep on the roykeeley/ot3 of it all, but I can set that aside to enjoy: so afraid that time will take it all from me by LikeAMovieIOnceSaw. It is a brilliant and exceptional fic that 100% had me fully believing in gay!Roy for the entirety of reading it.

during the post s2 hiatus I absolutely ate up any fic whatsoever where Jamie starts staying with RoyKeeley because of Heavy Circumstances, and what starts as 'temporary' quickly becomes something more permanent as they grow into a relationship

Jamie being injured on the pitch or from violence with his dad or what have you, and Roy and/or Keeley worrying and fretting over him. bonus points if he's in the hospital and Roy and Keeley are worrying and fretting at his bedside!

Roy taking Jamie home/over to Keeley's after Man City and taking care of him.

Having rj/rjk jamiegender thoughts and I feel like Roy's reception of Jamie's gender identity would be very much the old man way of saying a lot without saying much ykwim? Like at first Jamie's fairly tame painted nails don't even garner a response from roy, he just laces their fingers together and goes about his day (jamie is glowing).

Then more obvious stuff like makeup would have roy squinting at jamie before going "why do you look fucking gorgeous today?" Inside, Jamie's squealing giggling kicking her feet while outside she covers by scoffing "what do you mean 'today?' I'm gorgeous every day."

Keeley tests the waters one day (with permission) when they're all about to go out and roy asks where jamie is. "She's upstairs, almost done getting ready," keeley says, eyeing roy closely. He squints at her for a few seconds before doing his acknowledgement grunt and mutters something about taking fucking 3 hours to get ready, but also compliments jamie when she bounds down the stairs.

I think the eventual talking about it would consist of royjamie snuggling, in bed for the night and roy quietly asks, "are you my girl?" Jamie anxiously buries his head in Roy's neck but roy keeps gently stroking Jamie's back. A minute of this and jamie says "sometimes," voice muffled. Roy goes "mn. Good. Let me know, yeah?" Trusting jamie to speak up when he needs to.

"Okay," Jamie murmurs, voice thick and curling into Roy's embrace even more.

"Fuckin love you."

"Love you, Roy."

Roy turns his face into Jamie's hair and breathes them in.

This is SO fucking sweet and exactly how I picture this w these three <3

Roy wants to be supportive but doesn't exactly know how to do that and is worried about being presumptuous or offending Jamie (because he was raised in a hypermasculine space and has internalized the idea that he's demeaning Jamie by comparing her to a woman or bringing attention to his femininity) so he kind of tiptoes around it and addresses it in little bits, but Jamie LOVES it and absolutely revels in it every time Roy brings it up in those small subtle ways

And at the same time Jamie (who was brought up in a similar environment to Roy obviously) has this deep-seated fear that Roy will think less of her if she comes out, so he doesn't ask for affirmation or put a name to his identity when talking about it with Roy at first

Whereas Keeley is more informed about the genderqueer community and identities and kind of has a more contemporary perspective on these things than Roy and Jamie do, so she addresses it more directly with Jamie and they talk about it more head-on and have openly Yuri sex

i have a somewhat angsty bigender jamie idea that ties into the complications from his dad's clearly misogynistic ideal of what it means to be a man and how he enforced that and jamie - though only in certain ways - emulated it defensively and like would probably be equally defensive if it was to be pointed out externally if he did something womanly (in the same vein as getting called "soft"). but like. so the thing is that gender expression and like being so-called Recognized as a woman to her would be a bit marred by this in that like on one hand it's gender affirming but on the other hand from all that sexist conditioning it would also simultaneously read as an insult. iykwim.

anyway. so i've had this scene that plays during Daydream Time sometimes where roy starts to kind of pick up on some kind of Gender from jamie, in part because jamie is picking up on that within himself at the same time and is like semi-subconsciously dropping hints and such. but the first time roy tries to talke to her about it, they have to talk around it - in part because roy's very awkward about that kind of shit and also because he was raised with the same general ideas re: comparing a man to a woman is insulting + he knows jamie's dad did that, so he's worried it'll be very hurtful to jamie to even ask about it if his guess is wrong. and then in part because he's right that it is kind of hurtful... even though he's not wrong.

I genuinely think Roy would be like one of her biggest allies/advocates (shipping aside) publicly and interpersonally, just based on the way he’s always defending the boys in the press, but knowing them it would be soooo difficult to actually have intimate conversations about gender because they both have this weird cognitive dissonance about it…..like Roy wants Jamie to know that he wholeheartedly accepts his femininity/womanhood, but also would never want to accuse her of emulating femininity/womanhood

I think he'd grow it to about shoulder length!!! Any shorter and it doesn't give him the gendereuphoric feeling, any longer and it gets in the way. He probably wouldn't wait for retirement, honestly, because even if it's a gender thing nobody has to know that yk? He can wear it down and feel pretty when he's at home and then at matches he can wear it in a "man bun" :)
