Freedom - Chapter Three - Destiny (ATLA/LOK AU)

The journey with the gang and when they stopped Cronus changed her more than ever. 

Belle finally saw the world, that there was more to life than the comforts of her home. 

Even Neil changed, and it surprised everyone. 

He went from a pampered son of a diplomat to a more grounded person. 

He even got Belle off the hook for walking out on their engagement in the first place and wouldn’t tell his parents that he saw her. 

As she traveled with the gang and it got close to parting ways, she couldn’t help but cry. Though at least they’d get in touch through letters. Though if she ever came back home, Neil wouldn’t be too far behind. 

She got to know the gang so well. Inside and out, but then again she got to know Neil better. She realized he wasn’t that bad of a guy. He was actually decent all that time. 

If she wasn’t so hasty with leaving him and just got to know him, maybe it wouldn’t have caused this much strife. Then again, she wouldn’t have met Jay, Odie, Herry, Archie, Atlanta, and Theresa. They wouldn’t have saved the world together. 

And she was going to miss them all. 

They were in Belle’s family’s summer home. Everyone else was inside, eating and drinking. Suez was playing the tsungi horn, but not very well. 

Archie wanted to firebend his behind. 

Belle looked out into the distance as the sun set. 

“Can’t stand the music, either?” Neil was behind her. 

Belle laughed. “Wanted to save my ears.” They both chuckled. 

The scenery just fit. The sunset, the lake as the stream flowed, how the grass and the sunlight met. If a painter could just capture it all, it would be an amazing portrait. 

Belle broke the silence. “I’m sorry that I left you all behind on the engagement, when I could have just talked with you all.” 

“And I’m sorry, too. After traveling with everyone else, I realized how I was caught up with everything our class stands for. I only cared about what everyone else thought and my family name, I didn’t even consider how you’d feel about everything. I was told that our family was the most important of all in the Earth Kingdom, but seeing the world has opened my eyes.” 

Seeing the world opened her eyes as well, though deep down, she was glad she did it all with Neil, even if he didn’t exactly come with her from the start. 

She couldn’t stand to be in the same room as him, but now she couldn’t imagine what it would be like without him. 

She felt her eyes closed as she met his lips. She found Neil’s eyes widen, though a small smile was soon on his face. 

It was a taste. A sample of what could have been, though she was glad that she did it. 

He placed a hand on her face, and began to kiss her back.

It was a big hullabaloo when they got back home to the Earth Kingdom. Belle had to make constant apologizes to Neil’s parents and her own parents. She tried to use stopping the evil Warlord Cronus’ defeat as a way to smooth everything over, but that made her parents even more worried. Even if the team did win. 

She told her parents it was wrong of her to leave without even saying goodbye, though she told them that she got to know Neil a little better. Despite her not being all over the engagement, she told them she just wasn’t ready, and maybe getting to know Neil a little better is the best thing for her. 

Her parents respected that, though at least Neil was still apart of the plan. 

And she did grow to love Neil. Maybe she did love him all that time. 

During their travels with the team, he gave her faith when she was at her lowest. They faced Cronus together, and she’d do it all over again with him. 

Together, they could face anything. 

“I know that us marrying was arranged from the start, but I’m asking you as me, Belle…” He got on one knee and presented a jade engagement ring. “Will you marry me?” 

Tears were in her eyes. All that time, she was afraid that she was going to end up marrying someone she didn’t love. But now her parents let her choose whom to marry. 

They picked each other because they wanted to be together, not because they needed to be together for anyone else. 

“Yes… Yes I’ll marry you, Neil.” 

They embraced. When she ran away as a scared sixteen year old, she wanted a different destiny. All that time, Neil was her destiny, a destiny that she could choose. 

All that time, she had her freedom.

Lmao your last Wuko post I resonated with sm. I love Wuko sm but I do not believe they’d make it canon. Wu probably won’t even be in the next comic 😭😭😭 which I’m so sad about. Oh well our crumbs tasted pretty nice while they lasted. But deep down in my little goblin heart I’m still holding out hope that he does show up 🙂

Same I hope Wu is in the next comic series (if they make that, I really hope they do) not just because of Wuko but also just because I like him. But yeah realistically I don’t believe they’d make it canon. That would mean 3/4 of team avatar, the main cast, would be bi canonically and that’s a high number so I don’t think they would do that. There aren’t really mlm in avatar tho besides a short comic from atla (and I think they said something about aiwei once), so I think they might want to have more lgbtq characters like that specifically. Wuko at least seems like one of the most logical choices to me in that regard, so I still have some hope. I just really like the ship and I think would be amazing to have more bi characters. It would also make the s1 and 2 love triangle more funny to me.

But I think I’ll be able to live of the crumbs of ruins of the empire for a while. They were tasty crumbs.

Tagged in by @etjwrites to answer some questions from this tag game, and like the overachiever I am.....I’m just going to answer them all. :D

Let’s interview Rewill shall we?

1) if they could choose a new name, what would they choose?

[Rewill leans forward and looks directly into the camera] How about one that the author can pronounce consistently. That sounds like fun.

2) what’s a surefire way of making them happy?

Lots of things make me happy. Game night, spending time with friends, going to the diner back on Victorious. Look, I know the food looks like absolute ass but it’s good, I promise, once you get past the chalkiness of the powdered eggs they aren’t so bad, and the ham isn’t really so tough once you get used to it--Okay why are you looking at me like that. Fine, no diner special for you then, judgeypants.

3) what’s a surefire way of making them sad?

Well...again, lots of things. The usual things, I suppose. People being rude or aggressive for no reason, looking at the state of things in the outside world, seeing things in the news about the cruise starship “accidents”...I don’t...really want to get into this subject, if that’s alright.

4) what do they do when they feel sad?

What, you mean other than cry my eyes out? I dunno, I guess I talk less? Jiy always says I veer between dead silence and doubling my sass, but I don’t really see it. I just mope around feeling miserable until I get out of my funk.

5) how do they choose their friends?

That’s easy. I look around for someone interesting and go “that one. I’m going to talk to that one” and then I hang around until my endless charm wins them over and can’t bear to be away from me. It’s what I did with Maika! [sound of a fist banging furiously on the interview window] She’s a work in progress. But I’ve almost got her, I can tell.

6) what kinds of food do they like?

I like what everyone refers to as “space trash”, but they’re just snobs. There’s nothing wrong with a good old fashioned hot dog from a food district stand, or a greasy burrito from a shady little joint in the back end of the manufacturing quarter, okay? Way out here in space the stuff you can get there is just as fresh as whatever you got at your fancy restaurant, and you can’t get that flavor anywhere else.

7) who is the person closest to them?

Jiy. We’ve been together since we were small, and we’ve been through a lot. We share...mostly everything, and what we don’t share the other can usually kind of sense?

8) what kinds of music do they listen to?

I like all sorts of music, but anything with energy you can dance a tango to has a special place in my heart. Personal sentiment, you understand. That and whatever’s going on with those old school scifi films. That electro...synth...thing. I love that.

9) if logistics and money weren’t an issue, what kind of animal would they keep as a pet? (includes fantastical animals like dragons as well btw)

Hmm. I might have said dragon before all of this started, but I think that might be disrespectful to Pry? I wouldn’t call him a pe-- [Rewill pauses, staring straight ahead, then turns to scowl at the door] I am not your pet, Pry, don’t be rud--Lok, I’m pretty happy with the android hounds I have back on the ship. They’re polite and don’t get sassy with me and I wouldn’t dream of anything else.

10) what does the landscape of their mind look like?

Uhhh, probably not a lot like most, considering all the hardware I’ve got in there. It varies between a blank dark space with floating thoughts, and a literal console screen full of memory folders and input/output and stuff. It depends.

11) why do they like themselves?

Because I’m awesome? I’m an absolute delight and joy to be around. I bring light to every room I enter, enthusiasm to every task, and my smile could power an entire field of solar panels. What’s not to like?

12) what do they dream of doing if they had anything and everything open to them?

I’ve always wanted to travel. Like, through space, I mean. I’ve always wanted to be out there, but first I had Jiy to look after, and then Mach’s crew had to stick to the area for obvious reasons...but I dunno. I want to go out and see what’s out there. Everything is so big. I want to explore it all.

13) what fashion choices do they make? do they go more for comfort or style?

I enjoy a blend of both. I like to look good, but it I can’t move around easily I won’t go for it. That’s why I usually for a nice spacer suit and a jacket, maybe a utility belt if I need to carry a few extra things. I don’t really understand the fashions on the colonies, and up on the stations it’s really just suits or absolutely wild eyesores. I just want to be able to do my job and not get my ten foot long train covered in every snaggly material under the sun caught on every door I try to walk through, you get me?

14) if they had to go somewhere without a map, what’s the likelihood that they would make it there without getting lost?

I’m pretty good with following directions without a visual aid. You kind of have to be in my line of work--if you sneak into a cruise ship to swipe something from the vault and pop out in a room full of guards, you don’t get very far, you know? I can find my way around. I’ve always had a good head for it.

15) what types of people do they attract?

People like me, I guess. People that have an inherent need to help out and stand up for the people around them. Oh, and smart-talkers. Can’t forget that. Everyone around me is always full of wisecracks. Seriously, they never stop. It’s always aimed at me, too. Help.

16) what types of people are they attracted to?

Well, looking at my track record, apparently that would be people that can beat me up and trash talk me while they do it, hahaha. But seriously, I think I just like people. It’s a problem. Jiy used to get really jealous until I convinced him I only had eyes for him~

17) what is their greatest fear?

Ah. Yeah. I suppose part of that’s already happened, so I guess...losing Jiy. I can’t even...imagine...what I’d do if that happened. Even after all the close calls we’ve had, just thinking about it makes it hard to breathe and sets my heart rate off, and--yep, there it goes, I’m seeing malfunction warnings now, what did I tell you?

18) what kinds of body modifications would they do if they could? (e.g. tattoos, dyeing hair, piercings, etc.)

Ahh, ha, yeah, I think I’ve had enough of those for a lifetime. Considering how much of my is either metal internally or something hooked through my skin, I’m about done with making personal tweaks. I used to have a few more tattoos before, but after I got the synthetic stuff I never really bothered to replace them. I’ve thought about it, but...eh?

19) what are they insecure about?

I think I come on a little strong sometimes? Sometimes I wonder if I’m pushing too hard and no one wants to speak up about it. Or that I’m speaking over people and not realizing it. I think I’ve spent half my life hearing Jiy tell me otherwise, but, I still wonder.

20) how do they treat people/beings who have less power than them?

Power is kind of hard to quantify, isn’t it? Someone less physically strong might be able to run me in circles with another method, and vice versa. Someone with political power can still be taken down if you play your cards right and sweep it out from under them. Erm. I guess what I’m trying to say is I wouldn’t really consider anyone as having “less” power than me, so I can’t really answer that question. I’d treat them like I treat anyone else, because that’s who they’d be. Just another person.

(bi-jinora) Hi! A few things! 1) can I tell you all about my San/Naoki storyline(s)? I've been thinking it out! 2) Can you help me figure out a year for those ages for my LoK Next Gen kids? I was gonna go with 200 AG, but that doesn't work with my current Maliri headcanons where they met in like 180/181 AG at Korrasami's engagment party. Actually I'm gonna make this part a separate ask because there's a lot to say. Hope you're having a good day!

Okay, so the Maliri plotline os as such: Siliri is a non-bender from the Northern Water Tribe, either Mako's age or a 1 year gap in either direction. She was in the South Pole visiting her cousin, and she wasn't gonna actively NOT go to the Avatar's engagement party. So she went, and met Mako because they were both akwardly standing by a food table to avoid having to dance. She's a bit awkward in social situations in general, and throw a cut person her age in the mix and, well.

More Siliri! She loves talking about politics and sharing opinions, and once she gets to know someone, she starts bouncing off the walls talking to them a mile a minute excitedly. She's very ADHD. I swear, none of this is me projecting, not one whit! (Fun fact tho I didn't REALIZE I was doing that until I started talking out her character with my cousin and I went. . . oh.) Anyway, she and Mako made akward small talk for a few minutes before Bo popped in and decided to meddle

Before Bo popped in and started to meddle in his brother's love life. Long story short, they wound up writing letters to each other, Bo invited Siliri to Korrasami's wedding to try to 'encourage' Maliri to happen (and her cousin was no better) and they eventually started dating and then got married. They had three kids, etc. That's on the chart you made- BECAUSE YOU MADE ME A CHART! EEE! 😍

Of course you can talk about your San/Naoki storyline! I would love to hear it. And I'm happy to try and help with the kids age stuff if you still need help!

So if 180 AG is Korrasami's engagement party, that would mean that Korra was around 27 (born 153 AG) and Asami around 28 (born 152 AG). And with the next gen ages, they would've had Yasuko at 182 AG based on their age and the year 200 AG. Bolin would've been 25 when he had Jade (179 AG).

So, if we wanna push the timeline about 3 years, that might work...

Jade would've been born in 182 AG, Naoki born in 184 AG, Yasuko 185 AG, and so on. The older Krew would have all their kids before they're 40, so that would work.

That would potentially mean that Korrasami got married in 181/182 AG. Which... I think works! Everyone would potentially be married by the time they have their kids if that's what you're aiming for.

And Maliri's story is so cute! Them awkward turtleducks haha :) And of course Bolin meddles... That goof.

Oh and I feel you when it comes to projecting onto characters lmao. It happens more often than we know it, but that's part of shipping and making OC's!

I ship you with Mai!

the two of you are the silent killers of the group, and that’s really iconic of you.

you are both ambitious and disciplined in what you do, but you both also have big hearts - even in mai hides hers a lot of the time. both of you hold your feelings close to your chest because you’re afraid to open up, and yet, you are so very insightful and intuitive, it doesn’t take you very long to understand why mai is the way she is, and your desire to get to know her makes you approach her and start to open up so that she feels comfortable enough to do the same.

i think it’s great that both of you are a little more reserved and like minded in that you are caring, but a little pessimistic. it almost seems like your natures contradict themselves - you are both stoic and caring, pessimistic, but believing the greater good. with anyone else, you would be confusing, but since you are both that way, it makes a lot of sense and you love each other for your nuances, not in spite of them.

i also imagine that mai would love your artsy side - idk exactly what it is you do, but while you are creating, mai is sitting with you, listening to music so loud you can hear it through her headphones and drawing (because hell yeah mai draws). sometimes she’ll also practice her knife throwing while the two of you are hanging out, and it’s very impressive. 

also, mai loves music - all kinds of music - so the two of you have quite the collection, together. i have no doubt that there is always music playing when the two of you are together, and when ty lee or zuko visit, they’re always appalled by your choices.

what i like about both of you is that you keep your calm under pressure - the two of you would be a wonderful team together, able to work in sync while not letting your emotions get the better of you, and working efficiently as well. and you always have each other’s back in a battle or any problem you come up against.

also, you are very passionate in everything that you do - super motivated to go after it and get things done - which is in contrast to mai’s apathy towards most everything, but i think your passion would work to boost hers. you can bring a lot more variety to mai’s otherwise apathetic life, and i think that’s good for the both of you. you have someone to slow you down and remind you that you’ll get there in time, and mai has someone who reminds her to have a zest for life.

also, in a modern! au mai is the cool, popular goth girl and you are probably less popular but still well liked, and the two of you meet in an art class and become friends. you both also kill it in school and get the best of grades. mai is kind of effortlessly good at school, but she will study with you if you need help.

also, mai probably has really great taste in clothes, and while she doesn’t super love shopping, she is always able to find really cute clothes, and she’ll definitely go shopping with you as long as you stop at a coffee place first.

I ship you with Mako!

it was a close tie with iroh ii, lol, but i decided that mako has more personality for my to expand upon

so what’s great about you and mako is that you’re both introverts who care deeply about other people, you’re both calm under pressure, ambitious, and maybe a little jaded, but passionate and principled.

your beliefs are the only thing tying you to this world, and you would rather die than betray your own values. this is something that can be polarizing to other people, but the fact that you and mako are the same in this regard is good for your relationship. and when differences arise, both of you know better than to convince the other to do something different and instead support them or at the very least don’t hold it against them.

furthermore, you’re both pretty perfectionistic and want things to be done right, so you both know better than to persuade the other to settle for less. in fact, since you are so altruistic, you will offer your services to help mako reach whatever goal he has, and that’s something mako really admires - you always support him, and he’s not always used to having a lot of people in his corner. it makes him feel nice.

also, can i just say,,,, a police officer and a lawyer? i love the dynamic and the potential that this holds. it also means that you both believe in justice.... and that working long hours is sometimes unavoidable.

you both have that “calm under pressure” vibe which is good since you are constantly taking down bad guys

i just want to say that you are the capable couple - desperately what team korra needs.

one hurdle that the two of you are going to have to get over is communication habits. infjs are not complainers, and you’re fairly sensitive to criticism, so when you add that to mako’s critical ways and his general avoidance of addressing conflict, there are some issues that can arise. luckily, neither of you are prone to explode on each other, and once you learn that you can talk through your conflict and neither of you will freak out, you’re more open to starting that conversation. mako is direct and can be in conflict, but he’s learned to avoid it. and you are insightful and can tell when something is wrong, but you’ve learned to ignore it. once both of you realize that these traits are good to lean on, you will face less struggle.

alright, so onto the fluff - mako and you cook. both of you like to cook and bake (you both probably do it for stress relief, while bolin will eat everything you make to relieve his stress) so naturally, you do it together! mako is still not the greatest at baking, but he’s getting there, and he likes it so much better when you bake. mako is also terrible and will 100% eat the cookie dough raw or lick the spoon when you make brownies.

and since you’re jobs are so demanding, the two of you spend a lot of down time together. if you’re a runner, you both like to jog through the park but you’re not, then the two of you will rather go on walks through the park and talk through the week - it’s a great way to destress and also talk about your successes. 

also, mako is a reader, you can pull that concept from my cold, dead hands, so while you are doing your art, he will be relaxing nearby, reading a novel. if you draw, you definitely have sketches of him draped across the couch, various books in his hands, and if you’re a writer, he’ll definitely compliment your work and be your beta reader, and if you’re more musically inclined, he actually says that you’re music calms him down and works as a soundtrack to what he’s reading.

also, mako and shopping is a concept that has so much potential to it - maybe it’s my love of wuko showing, but taking mako to the mall would be a laugh. but he’ll do it for you because he loves you.

It's fine. Here are new AU questions that I hope you can answer. If Tenzin hadn't changed his mind about letting Korra stay in Republic City, would Amon had a better chance at achieving his main objectives? How would United Republic Council and other official authorities be able to handle the Equalist leader and his brethren? And finally, how different would things be if Korra STILL weren't able to go to Republic City?

I think that if these are for a fanfic, it’s up to you to make these creative decisions because a lot of it is just speculation on my part. If you want a more qualified opinion on the matter, it’s probably better to ask an lok blog. 

If korra never made it to republic city amon would’ve had a better chance of achieving his goal because nothing is getting in his way and he can use korra’s absence for his propaganda. Since she isn’t there, he can talk about how the avatar doesn’t care about non-benders enough to protect them and isnt worth their time and he’d get more supporters as a result. For people who are jaded but aren’t equalists, the fact that none of the benders, not even the avatar are really helping the situation would be the tipping point. As we’ve seen in the show the Republic city council still voted in favor of tarrlok regardless of tenzin or korra’s protests and it even says on the wiki that the council was never really equipped to deal with new political movements which was why it disbanded in favor of an elected official. Republic city would probably be overtaken by the equalists if korra doesn’t get involved and spread their regime. Starting conflicts with the other main villains on the show like kuvira and unalaq. I’d imagine without korra, the republic city would be war torn and the nations would end up being more divided than ever. It would be chaos.
