that was SUCH a nail in the coffin analysis ive always felt weird abt how mcr and their fans have been operating ever since they came back and u put it into words 😭 like i genuinely think mcr is still effectively broken up and only came back bc they missed a) each other/performing occasionally kinda and b) MONEYYYY because a full tour and multiple makeup palette launches with no album out after like four years is insane! (i get that the pandemic mightve shifted their schedule maybe but lets be real) and i think mcr fans are subconsciously hurt by this and somehow the revisionist history of mcr being freedom fighter genderqueer activists that threw the first brick at warped tour makes them feel better about it?? like "oh this band has values so surely they wouldnt come back from a breakup JUST to take my money"

I actually think that back in 2018-2019 the band originally intended to record and release an album and then were not able to follow through. I think COVID probably affected people’s mental health or drawing out the creative process for several years more than originally planned led to the same tensions that resulted in the band breaking up coming back to the surface. 

The earliest MCR reunion leak was actually in Spring of 2018 by SWMRS (lol) and had probably been going on for a long time prior to that. They have had plenty of time to record an album, they either just can’t or don’t want to. 

The initial reunion announcement had a lot of really stylized and specific imagery that was new and not nostalgia bait at all. It also felt very extra for just a tour. I don’t religiously pay attention to MCR but they have been doing a lot of stuff to try and keep the album hype going as we head into 2024, like flashing a 5 symbol at shows. I feel like that type of thing was more prevalent early on, but it’s been 4 1/2 years (!!!) so it’s hard to remember. 

Also, I joined bandom in Feb-March of 2013 and all throughout the hiatus through reunion leaks in 2018 (so 5 years), MCR were constantly doing things. They each had solo projects (Frank several) and Gerard was doing comics and a TV show. Plus, the band released CW, several demos, and merch. 

Over the last 4-5 years, they have basically had one tour and that was it. What have they been doing this entire time? Nothing? 

Also, an album that was significantly delayed or didn’t pan out would explain Frank’s garage sale fiasco. The FOB reunion was originally prompted by a blog post from Patrick complaining about how he had blown his savings on Soul Punk and it failed— so if Frank had invested personally in LS Dunes banking on a MCR album, that might explain why he needed to auction off sweatbands as well as the band getting snippy on socials about how they can’t “afford” to film a video. 

And like, no, nobody is “owed” a MCR reunion or MCR album or “owed” closure and if they want to fuck off and drink virgin Pina Coladas in Tijuana for the rest of eternity and play WWWY and Riot once every 4 years or something they can 

But stringing fans along with “cryptic messages” for 5 years and not making any kind of acknowledgement in the press is weird and like you said, I think explains a lot of the obnoxious holier-than-thou behavior from the fandom. During the time MCR have been “back,” FOB, Avril Lavigne, Blink, and probably other people have gone from varying degrees of hiatus to being well into full touring and promotional cycles for new material which has also made MCR less and less special. Those acts didn’t set outrageously high and dramatic expectations beforehand like MCR did either. 

I also really don’t intend to be disrespectful or make assumptions but I think Gerard especially has a long history with drug/alcohol issues in relation to performing and doing touring before the album was even recorded may have led them to delay stuff to (at best) prevent any issues arising. 

And like maybe their bodyguard is telling the truth and there will still be an album. But planning a reunion starting in 2017 at the absolute latest, recording and releasing a single in 2019+playing reunion shows, and not releasing the album until 2024 at the earliest is not really a normal schedule and at best is indicative that they ran into issues along the way.

A follow-up to the first Gangstalicious episode. In this episode, we find out that RIley has continued to be in touch with Gangstalicious, who sends Riley free CDs and other merch all the time. It’s evident (and eventually confirmed) that the reason for this is he’s effectively sending Riley these care packages as a hush payment. The punchline from the first episode (Riley in extreme denial about Gangstalicious’ sexuality, that is) carries over to this one; Riley just thinks they’re good friends and still believes that he hallucinated Gangstalicious’ doing a big gay kiss on the lips with another fella.

Ganstalicious has a song called “Homies over Hoes” which is tearing up the charts. In fact, Gangsatlicous has never been hotter. He even debuts his fashion line on Regis and Kelly, which is just ridiculously gay stuff. Riley, still oblivious, proudly wears the gay guy stuff, while Grandad panics about his grandson becoming a gay dude. Riley stays in denial, even in the face of a tell-all book written by a woman who was rebuffed by Gangstalicious for being gay reasons. Eventually, Riley confronts Gangstalicious and asks him point blank if he’s gay. Gangstalicious still denies it, and Riley wholeheartedly accepts his denial at face value. And that’s the end.

This is a really funny one, but it may not be to some people’s tastes. The harsh gay panic on display from some of the characters will come off outdated or just unfunny to plenty. It’s important to note that this was an era when I think most gay-panic comedy was written with some degree of irony, or at the very least it was presented that way after the fact by a lot of creatives who weren’t done going to the gay jokes well. It’s, of course, absurd to be homophobic, which is why it’s funny when we write a character calling another person gay, that kind of thing. Nevermind they are reaping the benefits of having chucklheads from the midwest just taking those jokes at face value and enjoying them wholeheartedly. 

A lot of these jokes are weaponized now for various battles in modern culture wars. I have a distaste for anyone taking stuff like the “You know how I know you’re gay?” scene from The 40 Year Old Virgin and balling up their fists in outrage either that those jokes ever existed or that current movies aren’t telling jokes exactly those ones anymore. Please just let being gay or trans be normal. I promise, it’s much more important than being able to see gay jokes in new movies. You can still watch this episode on HBOMax right now and laugh at it in the privacy of your own home, if you want. We don’t need the same gay jokes that were told about Michael Jackson to be told again about [I literally have no idea who to put here, sorry!]. 

But basically, yes, the only truly sympathetic character here might be Gangsalicious himself, who has to continue living a lie. Riley is homophobic because he’s a dumb kid. Granddad is homophobic because he’s an old stupid man. Thugnificent and his crew are homophobic because they are cowardly, literally seen shaking and hiding from the gay man at their doorstep they originally agreed to collab with. Huey is even guilty in this episode because he might directly benefit from Riley’s perceived gayness and get his own room. This episode accurately reflects a time when being homophobic was just the easiest path. 

I’m probably giving the episode too generous of a read here. I have no clue how Aaron mcgruder feels about gay people. I personally don’t know how actually homophobic the jokes are meant to be. The disclaimer at the start is rather coarse, and if that’s the only thing we have to go on then this episode probably deserves some flack. But I thought the episode was funny, and it might be in part due to the mental gymnastics I did to make it reflect my own feelings a little more. And at the end of the day, aren’t my own delusions the most important thing in the entire world?

anyway i don't know if this would be unexpected per se, but i have a lot of thoughts about the state of indie horror games right now. not anything that hasn't been said before, but... yeah-

so a common complaint i see is that there's an oversaturation of low-effort mascot horror games that are all extremely derivative of each other and focus on marketing and merch rather than giving a complete, well-rounded experience. and uhh.... i agree with that lol. however, i think something a lot of people don't keep in mind here is that outrage marketing (for lack of a better term) plays into this.

like... take gar/ten of ban/ban for example. i'm not trying to knock people who do find enjoyment in that game, but a significant amount of the traction it's received is from people talking shit about it. and.... again, i am not knocking the people who enjoy this game. but to those who don't...... you need to understand that even by getting the game just to speedrun it and refund it, you are contributing to the chokehold this game has on public consciousness.

like even ironic attention and support... is still attention and support. i hate to say it, but genuinely if you hate this game and think it doesn't live up to or deserve the hype... then you should ignore it. because ultimately it's really not doing anything productive to go "UGHGHG LOOK AT THIS BAD GAME" and in fact incentivizes them to continue making the game you hate because they will continue to get the attention and revenue from the exposure. outrage marketing is real and y'all are falling hook, line, and sinker for this shit.

i know $6 a month isn't a lot in the united states, but they have a pretty international audicence and with currency exchange, $6 is a lot. like in hong kong that's $50 a month, mexico its 102 pesos a month, in the phillipines that's 345 pesos a month, in argentina that's 5,221 argentine pesos--you get the idea. hell, i live in the us and i can't even afford to spend an extra $6 a month 😭

i agree on paying creators fairly, and i know watcher has 25 employees who deserve to paid. but the channel already pulls in over $100k a month from patreon alone; they also make bank from all their sponsors and merch sales. i mean, one of their main series is steven lim eating expensive food like gold flaked beef. i mean, he has a new tesla!

idk it just feels like that ceo thing where they aren't happy with consistent success, it needs to be increasing success. but ofc idk them, i'm just an outside observer so idk the full story, etc.

first up -- i actually think $6 a month IS a lot for some people in the US & have talked in private w friends about how i wish they'd started at like, $1-$3/mo or smth because even that would make it more affordable for a lot of their fans :-) just to clear that up! $6 is a lot when most streaming services that offer way more than 2x as much content cost like 2x as much on average (i think? the only streaming service i have is for baseball, i pirate everything else so idk). $6 a month is also a lot, Period, for many people, regardless of context. it's the principle of paying for it at all that was my main point in that post

Things had been pretty tense in Bustier’s class for a bit. Marinette had been very busy working on a commission for Jagged. He wanted a wardrobe for the upcoming concert from Marinette. He also asked her to help design some posters and t-shirts to sell at the concert. Clara Nightingale was opening the concert and had also asked for a new outfit to wear onstage. All of this work meant that Marinette had very little time for anything else lately. Lila had used this as an opportunity to start turning the class against Marinette. When the class wanted to get together to hang out, Lila would volunteer to ‘invite’ Marinette and then tell the class that Marinette had rudely declined the invitation. The class was definitely getting irritated with the bluenette, except for the few people that knew Lila was lying and what Marinette was doing.  Nino, Adrien, Juleka, and Chloe all knew what was going on, and weren’t irritated with Marinette. They were getting irritated with Lila though. Marinette did not realize what was happening in the class, she was never paying much attention to it while at school and all her free time was devoted to these concert designs. Then one day, when Marinette missed school for Jagged’s final fitting, Lila dropped the bomb on the class. She told the whole class that Marinette had been bullying her and wouldn’t leave her alone. The class was hesitant to believe this, but the liar had come prepared with ‘proof’ in the form of mean text messages from an unknown number. That was enough to trick the class into believing Lila’s tricks.

 Marinette had realized that things were rocky with her friends. She knew this concert had taken up a lot of time and she wasn’t able to go to any events. She did wonder why she hadn’t heard of some of these events before, but she just assumed that the class had mentioned and she had forgot, or that they thought she would be busy. She did not realize the damage Lila had been doing to her friendships while she was busy. After doing some last-minute details for Jagged, Jagged gave her tickets and back stage passes for the concert the next night for her whole class. Marinette went home excited to tell everyone the good news the next day.

 Marinette got to school early for once and saw Nino, and Juleka waiting outside the building. Marinette was so excited about the news; she was practically buzzing. She rushed up to the two and said, “Guess what?” The two students looked on curiously and asked, “What?” Marinette grinned and replied, “You know how I was working on some stuff for Jagged’s concert tonight? Well, he gave me tickets and backstage passes for the whole class!” Nino and Juleka also looked really excited upon hearing the news. While the three friends talked excitedly about the concert, they did not notice Lila hiding in the shadows, listening to every word. Lila immediately thought up a plan to ruin the stupid bluenette for good. She rushed up to the class room before the trio could spot her. When she got there, she peeked into the classroom to see who was her audience this time. She saw that Alya, Alix, Kim, and Mylene were already sitting in the class room. Lila took a deep breath and turned on the waterworks and rushed in. Alya immediately jumped up and asked, “What’s wrong girl? Why are you crying?” Lila almost grinned and broke the illusion, but she caught herself and sobbed, “Well, I talked with Jagged yesterday and managed to get us all tickets and backstage passes for the concert tonight. I even got one for Marinette, even though she has been bullying me. I thought this would be a good peace offering. But when I got here this morning and told Marinette the news, she stole the tickets from me!” Lila could see it did the trick and the students in the room were furious. As the rest of the class trickled in, they were told the story too and they became just as furious with Marinette. By this point the only people who hadn’t heard the story were Nino, Adrien, Juleka and Chloe. But Lila knew they wouldn’t believe her. Those four had realized or already known that Lila was a liar, but they hadn’t said anything to the rest of the class. Lila wasn’t sure why they hadn’t, but it didn’t matter now. Her hold on the class was so strong, Lila doubted that those four would make a difference.

 Marinette and her friends stayed outside and talked about the concert until it was almost time for class. They all walked in the building together and up to the classroom. Marinette walked in, not having heard Lila’s fake wails coming from the room, held up the tickets and announced, “Guys, I got us all tickets to Jagged’s concert tonight!” When there was no response, Marinette really looked at her class. She then noticed all of the other students glaring at her and how Lila was still crying dramatically. Marinette instantly knew, whatever was happening wasn’t going to be good. Alya started yelling, “How could you Marinette?! Not only do you bullying Lila maliciously the last few days, but they you steal the tickets Jagged gave her as a gift and tried to take the credit. Did you honestly think that was going to work?! I never realized you were so petty.” That got the rest of the class to start yelling. Marinette and her friends were stunned silent by all of this, but quickly regained their composure and tried to defend Marinette. They knew they had to say something this time, but the class either couldn’t hear them over the yelling, or were not listening to them. Alya walked up to Marinette and snatched the tickets from her hands. Marinette yelled, “What are you doing?! Lila is lying to you, Jagged gave me those tickets for the class!” Alya walked back to Lila and replied in a cold voice, “No, Marinette. I am tired of you bad mouthing Lila just because you are jealous. These were Lila’s tickets and you stole them. Don’t worry, the class will get the tickets. But-” Alya turns to Lila and says, “Lila, I don’t think Marinette deserves your kindness. She shouldn’t get that ticket.” With that Lila acts meek and hands over one of the tickets. Alya rips it in half while Marinette and her friend stare in disbelief. They had no idea how things had gotten this bad, this quickly. Marinette ran out of the class and left the school. Alya started passing out the tickets to the rest of the class, but when she got to the four that came in with Marinette, she was met with cold glares. Nino spoke up, “Alya, how could you do that to Marinette. Not cool dudette.” With that said, the four turned and left the class room to follow the bluenette and make sure she didn’t become an akuma. The rest of the class couldn’t believe that they would side with a bully like Marinette but they pushed it aside. If those four wanted to hang out with the bully instead of go to the awesome concert tonight, so be it. The class got excited for the concert, while Lila basked in her victory, not realizing that it was actually the start of her defeat.  

 Nino and company arrived at the bakery and Tom and Sabine let them up into the apartment. They found Marinette in her room pacing. They had expected her to be crying, but she didn’t look sad. She looked angry. Marinette turned to face them and said, “Any objections to abandoning the ‘high-road’ approach to the Lila problem?” They were all in agreement. It was time to take Lila down, even if she got akumatized. So, the five friends hatched a plan to dethrone the liar. And to do it at the concert tonight. But they needed some help first. Marinette called Penny and told her what happened. Jagged was listening at the time, and was furious at what his favorite designer and honorary niece was saying. Jagged agreed to help however he could. After sending the group five new tickets and telling security that the class wasn’t to be allowed into the venue, Jagged agreed to meet them outside the venue. The tickets he had originally gave Marinette were VIP tickets, which listed a different entrance to come into the concert. This meant that Jagged could help with part of the plan in person. The group then spent the next hour going over details with the rocker until they had a concrete plan. Lila had no idea what was about to happen.

 The class arrived at the concert about 45 minutes before it was set to begin. They wanted to browse the merch booths before the show. When they got there though, they were told that their tickets weren’t valid. The class was really confused and asked security to check again, it must have been a mistake after all. Lila had gotten these tickets from Jagged himself they must be valid. What the class couldn’t see was Jagged was waiting behind the door into the venue. He was waiting for the five friends to arrive, so the plan could begin. He did not have to wait long. Marinette, Nino, Adrien, Juleka, and Chloe arrived a few minutes later, while the class was still arguing with security, and walked right up to the security. Their tickets were scanned and the class waited with smug looks for their tickets to be denied like theirs had been. Imagine their shock and outrage when the tickets were confirmed and they were allowed to pass. Lila immediately turned on the tears and sobbed, “Marinette must have switched the tickets when she stole them from me! The ones Alya got back must have been fake!” Before the class could begin yelling again, the door to the venue opened and out walked Jagged Stone. He ignored the rest of the class and called out, “Hey Marinette! How is my rock’in little designer?” Marinette smiled and chatted with the rock star while the class watched, completely dumbstruck. Lila was silent too, but she was terrified. How could this be happening to her? Alya recovered from the shock first and yelled, “Wait! Why are you talking to Marinette?! She has been bullying Lila, why would you be nice to her?” Jagged turns to the class and asks, “Who is Lila?” Alya gets furious from that comment, while Lila grows pale and starts looking for an out. Alya starts yelling again, “Who is Lila?! What do you mean ‘Who is Lila’? Lila is the girl who saved your cat from being run over by a plan on the airport runway. She is the one who introduced MDC to you. She is the girl you consider your honorary niece!” Jagged just looks at the class with a deadpan look and replies, “I have never met or even heard of this Lila. I have never owned a cat, so she couldn’t have saved mine ever. No one introduced MDC to me, I met them myself. And the only person I think of as my niece is Marinette.” The class was completely shocked. They turned to confront Lila, but Lila had already slipped out of the crowd at some point and left. Lila began thinking of ways to get her mother to skip school for a while on her way home. How was Lila supposed to know things would go this wrong?

 Back at the concert venue, the class tried to apologize to Marinette. Marinette almost forgave them, until they asked if they could still come into the concert. Marinette just rolled her eyes and went inside with her friends. Jagged started to go inside too, but first he turned back and said to the class, “You think I’m going to let you in after what you lot did? What you guys did was not rock’in. So not rock’in. With that he went inside the building. He made sure to tell Penny to black list all of those students outside, so they could not attend any of his concerts from now on. He passed word along to Clara about what the liar had been saying about her too, and Clara quickly followed suit, banning the class from her events. After the show he asked Marinette about the rest of the lies, and he reached out to each of the celebrities that he knew, and it wasn’t long before these celebrities made public statements, denouncing the liar and saying they had never met her. In one night, Lila’s reputation was destroyed and she received several C&D orders. Lila’s mother was so mad, that she sent Lila back to Italy to live with her grandparents. The liar was gone, Marinette’s life was starting to look up again, and she couldn’t wait to have more fun times with her true friends.

I’m surprised yet I’m not surprised that I haven’t seen anyone on tumblr talk about the Balenciaga collab. Twitter and Instagram are almost universally panning the move and are quite pissed off at it. Personally I think the collab was a dumb and tone deaf move on the management, but I can’t fuss about it too much because of a lot previous musicians I liked ate these kinds of designer streetwear brands up and I just had to turn a blind eye to it eventually.

😕 I was really happy tumblr largely ignored it because I expected the outrage and dreaded it. My take is not gonna be a popular one, and I am sorry it’s probably not what you hoped to get. I’ll try to explain why, but I do have big feelings about this and I don’t know how articulate i can be.

The thing I am seeing in all of these comments, and what I think you refer to when you say it was tone deaf, is a lot of hurt. And in a way I completely, 100% understand that. The problem is, I think, that it’s misdirected when it is directed at the band. The fact that some well off fashion victim can drop what some of us earn in a month on a hoodie, hurts. It hurts that people that have been with this band for years and years, have saved any and each magazine clipping they can get their hands on and struggle to save up for months to buy a concert ticket while other people can do that - that shit hurts. And I understand that. I really do. I feel it too.

The thing is though, and this is where I fear what I say could be taken the wrong way: Rammstein doesn’t owe anyone anything. They don’t owe anyone to stick with only accessible merch, they don’t owe us some weird class loyalty where they turn stuff like this down. They just don’t. Why would they? Why? Because the thing that is hurtful about it is systemic, and they don’t owe us to fix systemic unfairness. They don’t owe anyone to not take advantage of it either, when it is offered to them, because they aren’t exploiting anyone but the exploiters, if that makes sense. They just don’t. Sorry. They are a well off band, but they aren’t rich enough to fix capitalism. I am gonna ask you very honestly, would you say no to becoming successful in a system that by it’s very nature devalues what you do, makes it a huge lottery draw if you can even make a living of what you do and takes advantage of you wherever it can? Rammstein got very lucky, and worked very hard for longer than most people on this website are alive. But in general, the way this society treats people like them, yes, even a large potion of their fan base, is a disgrace. They are a 1 in I don’t know how many cases of people who took the same risks and had the same passion and didn’t make it. And I think they know that too. I am sorry, but they’ve earned it.

I grew up far below what is considered the poverty line in my country, in a community of artists, and I feel very strongly about this one thing: The same person that will drop a 6 figure number on a painting will tell you not to go to art school and get a real job instead, because you can never be “successful” that way (whatever they mean by that.) Please read that sentence again.

Society doesn’t give a shit about artists. And when I mean “society” I actually mean fans, too, because ... I could write an essay about this, but basically because they complain more about not getting a ticket refund than the fact that currently thousands of artists fall by the wayside and won’t make it through this pandemic. I repeat, society, AT large, don’t give a wet fart about artists. It pretends it does, because they want to look cultured, but it really doesn’t. Every now and then they lift one up into the heights of the glittery temples of fame and stardom, to circle jerk with their art criticism and their champagne events and photo ops. And it’s disgusting it works that way, yes. But again, that is systemic. And what I need you to understand is that the majority of people who turn to the extremely precarious lifestyle of trying to paint or to make music for a living, take up with how the world is treating them, take the risk of falling of the grod financially, take the degradation of being asked to “work for exposure” and the “why are you still doing this, wouldn’t it be easier to —— it’s clearly not going anywhere” questions year after year after year for ... they do it for that one tine little chance to be that 1 that gets lifted. This isn’t about the passion — you don’t make art to be “successful”, there are so much easier ways. It’s about taking the merciless grind and maltreatment for that one shot to one day be seen and recognised as worthy people and to get out of the grind. And when it happens, they are supposed to turn it down? Why?

I understand that this is an inflammatory take. I do, in a way, understand why people get angry. I just don’t agree with the direction of the anger - at all. The thing is, if you look at it in a more innocent way, the creative director of Balenciaga, as I understand it, was a civil war refugee who somehow managed to become the leading designer on one of the biggest name in fashion. Do you think it was likely for him to get there? Do you think it was ever easy for any boy to become a fashion designer against a backdrop of constant teasing and a probably even smaller chance of “making it” than musicians? But he did it, and turns out he is a Rammstein fan. So he does what he loves. Big deal. To be clear: I think the existence of brands like Balenciaga is stupid to me too. But still - the same person that will drop a 1000€ bucks on a raincoat will tell you not to go to fashion school, you know? Rammstein also have a history of being in the high fashion world. They had 3 exclusive photoshoots with zoo magazine in the time they had like, idk, 1? With Rolling Stone, they were in fashion magazines first in the US, they had runway shows in their early career ... this was a long time coming. I WAS surprised it was Balenciaga. I hoped it would be something like Givenchy or McQueen but I guess they’re not that classy - what do you expect from a bunch of guys who wear sandals with tracksuits.

Another take I see quite often is the whole “well now there will be knock offs and people that don’t even know the band will start wearing it” and while that is a huge pet peeve, I have to think of Flake writing about that in his book and being all awed by how anyone could become that big - and just feeling a but of a misty eyed satisfaction of “they made it.”

I understand people are angry. But maybe consider of you’re really angry at the band - or simply the fact that we live in a world where some people have to make a living for weeks off the same money someone else drops on a t-shirt.

My Guardian Demon: Chapter 1 Part 4: Unrealistic doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

Turning off the television within the apartment, Izuku watched as (y/n) dramatically slid down the couch in boredom. Glancing to the three open windows paired with an additional two fans blowing cool air into the warm apartment, Izuku doesn’t make much of a reaction at how his demon is feeling.

I mean who can blame them? It's quite warm- regardless of what the weather forecast has been reporting- nobody could’ve thought that a heatwave would’ve come early into the year.

“Jeez, why do those annoying contractor demons have to exist…” Muttered (y/n) as they opted to float towards the window to look at the colourless sky (in comparison to Izuku’s developed vision).

Although the day had started in a very boring manner, once he had arrived home from his morning training with All Might (coupled with a thirty-minute long complaining session from his demon that he should “take better care of himself, instead of pushing himself!”), the green-haired boy decided to lounge on the couch after folding his and his mother’s clothes that were finished drying outside.

Even when the doorbell rang with excitement washing over Izuku. He knew that whatever had erupted in the wake of a new beginning, that the green-haired boy will most certainly be a part of it.

(However, let’s put this monologue to rest. The elephant in the room is here.)

For all that’s said and done, armed with a sharp box cutter- Izuku makes his move of revealing the loot- and don’t let me forget that it’s All Might merch.

“Jeez Izuku, you need to get this obsession under control.” Murmured (y/n), as they swished into his peripherals once more. Taking careful observation of how Izuku ignored his demon’s comment, he delicately takes each box out with precise care and stability to the point that it leaves the demon awestruck at his tentativeness.

“I mean, sure it's not bad to have something you like—” (y/n) paused in order to dig up a more suitable word choice, “—but, there are some things where you need to save up for.”

Even amidst the one-sided conversation, which was cut short by (y/n) staring at the bronze age All Might, Izuku had also paid close observation of how his demon interacted with him.

He still remembers that one training session where even though he was dead tired of pulling both a fridge and his mentor, the slight encouragement from you had pushed him far enough to get up and try again!

(That goes without saying, All Might had asked Izuku to stay a bit longer to discuss the taboo subject of demons.)

“Young Midoriya, are you aware of auras?”

Seeing as talking a demon into existence is outrageously disrespectful, Izuku was shocked at the revelation of hearing All Might (out of anybody else) talk so openly about it!

Squeaking a meek “yes” in hopes that All Might doesn’t continue this conversation (but he still does), the adult turned to face his successor to utter a phrase the child will never forget.

“Then why is your demon’s aura pulsating so dangerously?”

That definitely left Izuku flabbergasted.

And now looking back at it, why is his demon so protective of him?

(He’ll never know, I guess?)

“Izuku, you know I can’t see normal colours.” Lamented the red demon as they lean on his shoulder to kill time and be comfortable.

Just as the green-haired boy inspected the bronze age All Might figure and ready to put it on one of his many shelves, he paused before asking (y/n) “Why do you like this figure?”

“That’s a vague question.”

Izuku deadpanned at his demon’s answer.

(Really (y/n)? Really?)

“Okay! Okay! I’ll answer your silly question!” If anything, you’re the one with the silly questions.

.

“I like the design, I guess!” Shrugging their shoulders, taking a pause to look at the rest of the figures, the demon settled on picking that one as their favourite.

(By 'that' one, it's the bronze age figure.)

“Plus… it doesn’t look as flashy as the others.” 

“What’s wrong with looking flashy!”

“A lot of things.”

That argument did not end for a long time. I can tell you that!

“Wait-- what time is it?” Another yawn escaped Izuku’s mouth before he covered it with a hand of his.

The dusky night setting where only one lamp was emitting a soft after hour glow smudged onto a page of multiple scribbles and notes, the pencil of his noted the new interests of (y/n) in delicate detail with few errors in his vocabulary.

Taking an eye off the notebook, leaning back in his chair before swerving around to see the digital clock, vermillion numbers glowered at him to reveal it was ‘8:43’ pm.

“It’s around 8:40 pm, (Y/n). Why do you need to know?” The demon’s slumped form sprung up in alarm, emitting more hazy fog to flood out them. That was strange…Izuku has never seen (y/n) so anxious about the time.

“The show is gonna start soon!!” Cried (y/n), which lead to his demon gripping him on his free arm and tugging as hard as they can to exit his room.

Even if demons have a unique sense of individuality, I wonder why people perceive them as being bad?

Isn’t it naïve to consider a ‘figment’ of our minds to be labelled something as vague as ‘bad’?

Even if said figment can easily destroy you from the inside out like miasma or possess the demon’s host in hopes of protecting them from outside danger.

Is possessing somebody out of protecting them, cruel or righteous? Is it wrong or right?

(Izuku doesn’t have the ethical mindset to process his thoughts, so he lets (y/n) force him down on the couch and watch his demon’s newest fascination of American Horror Story.)

As always, Izuku seemed to leave the curtains cracked a little open to allow his demon to gaze upon the glittery fabric of a darkened atmosphere.

The crater embellished in the fabric was held stationary to grant permission for the creature to gaze upon it for one of the few nights in the month, as trees locked their gazes at the rock and the illuminations of manmade stars stilled in the moment of time.

And for a moment, (y/n) wondered upon these manmade stars if they could be human.

(Or something close to being human! Though…as cheerful as it sounds; the only way they could be a human is becoming a thief demon.)

But only for a moment they wondered about it.

(And may a divine deity forbid them from thinking about it.)

There’s no room in this house of memories to bring greedy thoughts of freedom into it. However, there is room to ensure that the demon’s companion is safe.

(At least he’s safe now…)

(The demon does worry a lot, but at this point, its quite natural for them to worry about everything when growing up with Izuku.)

Glancing back at the dozing green-haired teenager, the demon sighed.

They couldn’t help releasing a sigh—not because they were relieved— but of the new dangers that may come alongside a quirk and having people to trust for once.

Letting their weightless form ghost towards the edge of Izuku’s bed, with protective intent as clear as the moon in the sky, (y/n) had made note of his serenity etched into the expression of glued tight eyelids with transparent drool beginning its slug trail down his chin and onto the flashy hero pillow.

(If you want to go into detail, it’s an All Might pillow.)

Speaking of heroes, why does Izuku really want to become one? (Y/n) has never seen a moral point to a hero’s duty—other than acquiring fame and money--, so why bother spending three years of your life contributing to a corrupt cause where it eats up your lifespan like a toddler munching on diabetes ridden lollipops.

Sure, (y/n) doesn’t like hero society.

(It’s practically fucked up, what else can they say?)

“Izuku, why do you want to become a hero?” But they don’t hate Izuku’s dream…

(I think…)

“Is it for fame?” They all have unrealistic dreams.

(The demon was speaking out into the void. That’s no surprise, it’s always been like that.)

“Is it for glory?” But that’s what dreams are. They are unrealistic.

(Is the demon right or wrong?)

“Is it for something else?” The demon had an unrealistic dream, so why can’t Izuku have an unrealistic dream?

(Unless both of their dreams weren’t unrealistic.)

MrBeast is one of my favorite YouTubers and something I see time and time again are people either saying he's fake or that he isn't a good person because he posts his good deeds online. I disagree, but only because I don't believe that someone doing something good is negated by them posting what they did. They still did something good and it doesn't magically become less good or less meaningful because they posted about it. I think that TheOdd1sOut made a good point about this in his video "Good Person" where he basically states all these good deeds he does and at the end he gets told that bragging about the good things he's done really makes him a bad person. That's not true and it's almost this religious-like belief for some people that doing good deeds should just. Not be a thing if you're going to advertise that you did it.

I think as a society people get caught up in the idea that good deeds can only been done in silence and that if you do good deeds (like feeding an entire city, for an example) to show how good of a person you are, it somehow negates it. I disagree with that notion, because good deeds are still good deeds whether they are done with "pure" intentions in mind or not.

Whether people want to admit it or not, MrBeast IS doing good for the world. He's helping people the US Government has basically abandoned literally just because he can. In his latest video on his MrBeast Philanthropist channel, he documents himself aiding a food bank to provide well over 20,000 meals to people in need. He helps local schools (especially lower-income ones) and really just tries to help people however he can. I honestly get exhausted seeing people get angry about him doing good on YouTube when he uses his YouTube revenue, ad revenue, and merch revenue to do as much good as possible. And that's his goal, as he states multiple times, to do as much good as possible. Sometimes he has to make outrageous videos so people watch his channel (a lot of people don't watch his charity videos but love watching his challenge ones or his extravagant ones) and can make money off of it without stepping on the heads of other people. His channel is literally based off of helping people. He teaches kids to be charitable which is better than a lot of media today. A lot of kids these days really struggle with empathy as a whole because (even when I was a kid this was happening) we are both so connected but so disconnected from the world. We hold the world at an arms length (even before the pandemic. Which. Social distancing is still important. Wear your mask) and only care about superficial stuff (calling back to the whole "Good deeds need sincerity otherwise they're bad" thing) and forget that there's a whole other aspect to life that we've seemingly forgotten. and that's the fact that we're humans and we coinhabit the same planet as everyone else. That we need to care about each other (even if it seems insincere financially)

Harry dropped a new piece of merch, a shirt with all profits benefitting the WHO reading STAY HOME STAY SAFE PROTECT EACH OTHER. Good message, okay, I don't need a shirt that says it but people will buy it that wouldn't just donate probably- the back is where things go downhill a bit. 'This shirt fights Covid-19' it chirps cheerfully, 'TPWK'. Never have the limitations of TPWK as a political statement been more obvious then when going head to head with a virus killing thousands every day and rapidly exposing the fault lines of inequality between the rich and poor worldwide, and while Woody Guthrie's 'this machine fights fascists' has certainly seen worse appropriations it's still not great. I believe it's well meant but, really, covid themed merch?? Otoh everyone was so outraged that my dash filled with aggressive revolutionary political content so if Harry's tone deaf misstep is the spark that ignites the masses I guess it'll have had a silver lining! "In times like this," says the HSHQ copy, "it's more important than ever to remember the power of the people"- be careful what you wish for boys! Live Nation released a list of celebs of have donated to their multi million dollar fund to help concert support crew through their sudden unemployment, and it includes Harry. Fans: 'Harry secretly donated to this!' Umm idk where SECRET comes into this but yes that's lovely. He could often use help with optics/execution but one thing we do know for sure about Harry is that he does sincerely want to help and do good.

Lottie posted pics of a pals zoom quiz night showing participants including team Harry members Adam Prendergast and Harry Lambert. And a pair of llamas. Not like the stuffed one that travels with Harry! Just someone virtually disguised as a couple llamas. For no reason.

Just a couple more hours til the midnight (somewhere) release of Liam and Alesso's track Midnight! And a video ("filmed in quarantine March 2020"), which there's already a nice long teaser for, it looks great, the song sounds great, looking forward to it all! The host of an upcoming podcast interview with Liam says "I learned that Liam is I think a lot more sensitive [than he comes across]" and "it was really powerful to hear him speak candidly about how much strength it takes to maintain an expectation of yourself that you’re comfortable with." I think he comes across as extremely sensitive as a somewhat defining characteristic but if you're paying less attention perhaps not I guess, anyway that sounds like it'll be a good one.

And today in Louis and social media, he followed two of his sisters, which if he's really making a point of popping in to do one (1) thing publicly each day to keep us entertained like wow, that's pretty weak Louis. Was that really the best you could do, your sisters? C'mon man make an effort! Much more exciting: Tim Burgess of foundational britpop band The Charlatans tweeted Louis "check your DMs" now THAT'S entertainment excitement! ANYTHING they want to get up to, I am here for it!

Meanwhile, Niall got his home studio up and running, said his favorite quarantine snack was seaweed, and pap pics of him out on his run a few days ago were released and weirdly people don't seem upset?! How peculiar, I could have sworn we were extremely angry about people getting papped from a distance while getting their allowed outdoor exercise, perhaps I mistook this for some other fandom? Odd, that.

On my choice to dress piratecore:

“Do you dress like a pirate all the time?”

I’m not in full garb all the time (I WISH), but I do have everyday clothing that resembles or represents pirate clothing, and I have some garb pieces I sometimes like to put into my everyday outfits (my slops are SUPER comfy!!)

“Ok, but do you dress that way ALL the time? Like do you have any ‘normal’ clothing?”

Of course I do! I have a few T-shirts, a tank top, a flannel, leather jackets, a zip-up hoodie I lost, jeans I don’t wear anymore, and some shorts and leggings. I just only wear them usually for errands and other small things, (I was about to say at home too, but I actually wear more garb-y things when I’m chillin at home lol), or I incorporate them into piratecore, like my shorts and leggings.

“But aren’t you hiding your true self when you hide behind pirates all the time? You got to learn how to start being comfortable with being yourself!”

Actually I’m hiding more when I wear “normal” clothing, and I feel most comfortable and I feel more like myself when I dress piratey. I gain a lot of confidence that I never had when I dress how I like.

“You have a lot more to you than just liking pirates!”

Yeah I do but beyond pirates, I am probably the most mediocre human. I am fun to talk to, but no one gives me a chance. I am goofy and funny, but my humor is different than a lot of people’s so most people either don’t understand it or find it offensive in some way or another. I have skills and hobbies I like to do, but I’ve always only been mediocre-good at them. Any skill or hobby I have ever had I’ll never be really great at or the best at, no matter how much practice or resources I’ve had. I have literally nothing that has ever made me stand out or seem likable. My special interest in pirates is the one thing that stands me out from the rest and makes me special, and I feel like I could bring something new to the world with it. That is something I didn’t realize until last year.

“You’ve got to stop living in this fantasy that is pirates and start living in the real world.”

As someone who is neurodiverse and has been through trauma, the real world is actually really strange and scary to me, especially in 2020. Escapism is actually a really healthy way for me to cope and is good for my mental health.

“This is only a phase! You only started dressing like this this year.”

Actually no. As someone who has been into pirates since I was really young, I have always liked the pirate aesthetic. When I was a kid, I would wear the same shirts and pants a lot because those particular clothes looked piratey. I only stopped when I hit middle school because I wanted to fit in and be “cool.” And in high school I got into My Little Pony, and so I dressed to represent that. Now that I’ve been fully indulged into pirates again as a young adult with no need to fit in with my peers anymore, I’ve collected a few nice shirts over the past few years to wear on more nicer occasions. And recently with stores like H&M carrying a ton of clothes that resembles pirate clothing in the women’s section, I was able to grow my wardrobe to how I liked and I’ve found my style.

“But what if you have to go to a semiformal event or a job interview?”

Of course I wouldn’t wear anything too outrageous or inappropriate for the setting. I have some blouses that are appropriate for these type of occasions. If I need something I don’t have, I go online or run to the store and shop for it.

“But you are going to eventually learn how to face the real world some day.”

“Some day.” Now, while I am young, I like to express myself how I like to until I can’t anymore.

“We need to start hanging out more as ourselves.”

Of course, we don’t need to be in cosplay or garb all the time to hang out and be friends. You dress how you usually dress, and I dress how I usually dress. The way I dress is no different than other alternative fashion like scene, indie, grunge, casual lolita, cottagecore, hobbitcore, etc.

“Don’t people think you’re weird though? Nobody will like it when you dress like that!”

No, not really. I might probably get the occasional glance from a Karen that I might not know about like any other alt, but I actually get a lot of compliments on my fashion choices, especially my tricorn hat! After an entire lifetime constantly being worried about what others thought of me, I’ve slowly stopped giving a shit.

“I am embarrassed to go out with you dressed like this!”

I was told that as a child by other kids for no reason, and as a teenager I was told that by people who I thought were my friends just for wearing My Little Pony merch and cosplay. This is nothing new to me so bye ❤️

It’s Time to Talk about a Bespectacled Elephant in the Room

I’ve been in the Beatles fandom for 8 and a half years. I have had a Beatles blog for the entirety of those 8 and a half years, and I have watched as discourse about these four men evolve. The discourse inside and outside the fandom has become so toxic that I don’t think I can engage with it in the same way that I could before. Let me explain. 

When I entered this fandom 8 and a half years ago, it was in 2012, quite an infamous year in tumblr history. That was the pique of “”cringey”” fandom culture. The Beatles fandom was as steeped in fandom culture as any other fandom. I know this because I was part of two of the top of fandoms at the time, Doctor Who and Sherlock. Believe me, I have seen cringe. 

The fandom at the time was totally aware of the John, Paul, George, and Ringo’s flaws as individuals, but most fans tended to simply enjoy Beatles fandom as if it were the 60s. Some might call it ignorant bliss. If you asked me at the time, I’d have said it was self-aware ignorant bliss--if that even makes sense. At the time, there wasn’t a person with a Beatles icon who hadn’t heard the line “John Lennon beat his wife.” Everyone knew it, but everyone also knew the real story, and so everyone just made peace with it. As a result, people didn’t think about every bad thing the Beatles ever did on a daily basis. It was more like a once-a-month kind of thing. Otherwise, fandom discourse was quite fun and relaxed. There were no shipping wars, no one fought over who was the best Beatle, everyone gushed over the Beatles wives, and we all just had fun with fics and fan art. 

Of course, in this period, people engaged in conversations about one bespectacled Beatles problematic behavior. These conversations usually came from outside of the fandom. It was usually randos coming into the tags or into someone’s ask box and ranting about John Lennon’s violent behavior. Some of it came from within the fandom. Some people really didn’t like John and gave others shit if they listed John as their favorite Beatle. A lot of the discourse boiled down to: ‘hey, I see you like John Lennon. You should know that he beat his wife. And now that you know that, you should feel bad about ever liking him in the first place.’ And the response was often, ‘Actually, John Lennon didn’t beat his wife. They weren’t even married at the time. And also he didn’t beat her, he slapped her once in the face, and then never did it again.’ No one’s minds were changed. The fans had made their peace, and the antis came off as cynical and pretentious. 

When Dashcon happened, and Tumblr took a hard look at its cringey fandom culture, the Beatles fandom evolved as well. The fandom became, frankly, less fun. It no longer felt like a group of people who found the Beatles decades after the 60s and were fangirling like it was 1965. There was still some of that left, but a lot of it kind of faded. So, most fandom interactions were reblogging pictures of the Beatles from the 60s and various interview clips and quotes. But the barrage of antis never really went away, and the response didn’t evolve. 

Then, the advent of cancel culture came on. I always waited for the Beatles to get, like, officially canceled, but I also felt they were uncancel-able at the same time. Let me explain. I have been a Beatles fan primarily in an online space, rarely engaging with fans in real life. But I have met fans who are life-long Beatles fans, people who are a lot older than us and who’s fandom isn’t tied to the internet. They don’t give a shit about any of our discourse. They may or may not have heard it before, but they seem totally indifferent to all of it. I’m sure most of them have never heard ‘Mclennon’ before. These are the people that flock to see Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr in concert (and pay astronomical prices for it). These are the people who go to record shops and buy vinyl. These are the people I run into at flea markets who buy up all the Beatles merch before I can even arrive (true story). So, the Beatles will never be canceled because there will always be people who love the Beatles and don’t engage with online discourse. Rarely said, but thank god for Gen-X. 

As cancel culture took over the internet, fandoms changed. It’s not as noticeable in fandoms without problematic favs. For instance, I’m also steeped in the Tom Holland fandom, and that boy is a little angel who has done no wrong. No one has discourse about the unproblematic boy who plays an equally unproblematic character. But in fandoms with ‘problematic favs’ the mood has shifted. I’m also in the Taron Egerton fandom. Taron Egerton, for those who only follow me for my Beatles stuff, is a genuinely sweet and kind person who has had zero scandals in his six year career. There were some rumblings when he was cast as Elton John, and some people took issue with the fact that he���s a straight man playing a gay man. This discourse seemed to die quickly as a whole lot of straight people played gay people in that same year (Olivia Coleman as queer Queen Anne, Emma Stone as her queer lover, Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury). Why jump on this boy who at the time was still technically on the rise. He’s not exactly the same target as someone like Scarlett Johansson who has her pick of roles. Taron doesn’t have quite that some power in Hollywood, and I think most people made peace with the fact that this was a big role for him, and it’s not really fair to take that away from him. So, all in all, the closest thing to a scandal was something that died pretty much on arrival. 

That was until this summer when everything changed. When George Floyd was murdered, celebrities flocked to social media to mourn his loss. Taron’s social media account was silent. For weeks, Taron said nothing about Black Lives Matter or Floyd’s death. This caused outrage in the fandom. Many raced to defend him, starting a hashtage #IstandwithTaron. Others sought to tear him down and anyone who supported him. The kind of mania this one incident caused tore through an otherwise peaceful fandom. What I saw was two sides in a total panic. The antis were people who once had faith that Taron was a good person and were now questioning that. Andthe defenders were people who desperately wanted him to be a good person and were afraid that he wasn’t. In essence, both sides could feel Taron about to get canceled. The defenders wanted to stop it, the antis wanted to ride that wave. 

What this long drawn out Taron example is meant to convey: is that cancel culture has put fandoms on edge. One’s fav has to be perfect, otherwise it can jeopardize the existence of the entire fandom. I’ll admit, I was afraid that I’d be some kind of pariah for standing by Taron through all of this. My actions were to basically reason with the antis but still defend Taron. I defend him mostly because I felt that his silence was the result of a needed social media absence and that trying to shame him back onto social media was an invasion of privacy. But I was genuinely afraid that he would get canceled, and the fun of the Taron fandom would be lost. 

In the Beatles fandom, it often feels like the Beatles, mainly John, have already been canceled. I see this coming from two different sources: antis from outside of the fandom and antis within the fandom. The outside antis are just the same as the ones from 2012. These are people who like to drop in that John Lennon beat his wife, posting this in the tag (which violates an ancient tumblr real by the way--no hate in the tags). 

The antis outside the fandom speak to a larger anti-John Lennon sentiment online. I see references to John Lennon ‘beating his wife’  on Tiktok and twitter. The tone of anti-John Lennon posts has shifted. Before, it felt like the antis were being smug but also argumentative. They wanted to have a conversation about this bit of info they read on Reddit with no context. Now, “John Lennon beating his wife” is practically a meme. It’s a running joke online that John Lennon was a wife beater. I can’t look on my instagram explore page because every so often a John Lennon beats his wife meme will pop up amongst the other, normal, memes.

This change in discourse suggests that the internet has just accepted this as fact now. I should note that back in 2012, it seemed as if few people knew this fact. The fandom knew it, and these random antis knew it, but few others did. Now, because of how common these memes are, it seems to be widespread knowledge.

Consequently, the Beatles fandom, who used to ward off attacks from antis, seems to have given in. I recently saw a post from a Beatles blog (had the URL and icon and everything) that confessed they felt guilty for listening to the Beatles, and I’ve seen similar sentiments expressed in the fandom. People tend to put disclaimers in posts about John or even all four that John is an ‘awful man.’ It seems like the self-aware ignorant bliss has completely gone away. Occasionally, I still see posts joyously talking about Mclennon or reblogs of old photos from the 60s. But the culture has shifted. 

Online, it no longer feels comfortable to be a Beatles fan. It feels like you have to own up to 8 decades of mistakes by four men you’ve never met. And, I should note, this is kind of how it feels to be a fan of anything right now. Taron is not canceled today, but he could be tomorrow. It’s this pervasive feeling of guilt that the person you’re supporting may or definitely has or is doing something wrong.

I’ll admit this uncomfortable feeling has expanded into other parts of my fandom life. I listen to their music, and I feel elated--the way I always have. Then, I get these intrusive thoughts which sound like all the worst parts of Twitter combined. It wasn’t always like this. Back in 2012, when I knew almost nothing about them, I saw them as four young men who were full of happiness, love for another, and talent. Back then, listening to their music was exciting and joyous. Sometimes, I fear that I can never feel that way again. Next year, when I finally go to Liverpool, will I be filled with excitement or guilt? 

I say all this for a few reasons. One, I love John Lennon. I appreciate all the good he did for the world not just as a musician and an artist but also his advocacy and charity work. I love him, and a part of me will always love him, but observing the change in discourse has enlightened me as a historian. Part of my job is to observe people’s legacies, and John’s is perhaps the most interesting legacy I’ve ever observed. When he died, he was hailed as a saint. But tall poppy syndrome set in, and the antis started. This culture grew and grew to the point where it seems to, at least among the younger generation, taken over the sainthood. 

But as a historian and a fan, I have never seen the saint or the devil. I’ve only seen the man, the incredibly flawed man. The thing that these antis never understand is that John Lennon was painfully aware of his own flaws to the point where it made him all the more self-destructive. In essence, his past mistakes caused him to make additional mistakes. But John, aware of his own flaws, always tried to change and was often successful. I’ve talked about this before, but John demonstrated that he was capable of being a good person, like properly so, again and again. After he struck Cynthia, he never hit her again. His shortcomings as a father to Julian weren’t repeated with Sean. He worked on his drinking, his drug addiction, and his anger, trying to overcome those demons till the day he died. By all accounts, the John Lennon that died in 1980 is not the John Lennon who struck Cynthia Powell at school. That John Lennon was living a cleaner, healthier life. He was a better father to both his sons by that point, and was trying to repair his relationship with Julian. He was a good husband to Yoko and saw himself living a long and happy life. 

John Lennon cannot and should not be boiled down to just his flaws. It’s one thing as a fan to acknowledge that John is a flawed human being (news flash: they all are), but he is also much bigger than that. 

So once again, why am I writing this long, rambling post, once again talking about John Lennon’s virtues? Because if I can’t engage with healthy discourse about the Beatles and John Lennon, then I can’t engage with discourse on the topic at all. So, I probably will post less Beatles stuff because I find it hard to go through the tags or even my dash (well, I can’t really go through my dash anymore for other reasons I’m not going to get into right now). If any of my followers have noticed a lot of Taron posts lately, it’s not just because I love Taron, it’s because Taron’s  tag is pretty much the only location on tumblr I feel 100% comfortable in. Any foray into John or the Beatles tags becomes uncomfortable and guilt-ridden quickly. 

So, I probably will post less about the Beatles until I can find a blog or a tag that doesn’t give me bad vibes. My fandom will likely outgrow tumblr and the internet. I have a ton of Beatles books; maybe I’ll rely on those. I am doing official scholarly research on them now. Maybe that will be my outlet. I’m sorry if I post less about them now, but it’s really for my own well-being.

He would really appreciate how it’s not too outrageous and thinks it looks very smart

Becomes a huge comfort item for him. Whenever he’s cuddled up in his jacket he tucks his face in it and is just surrounded by warmth and happy

It has some silver detailing at the ends that’s reminiscent of claws and it looks really cool when it moves

Doesn’t like to wear it when he’s out because he’s gotta keep up the intimidating vibe but he loves wearing it at home

Purposefully keeps the house a little colder than necessary just so he can feel comfortable with it on

If you complain about it being too cold he’ll wrap both of you up in the scarf so now you can’t escape

I meant that in like a cute way but it came out very threatening

It’s black with a white lining and smaller gold trim

He def wears it to school when it starts getting colder

For my own sanity I’m only gonna do a couple but you’re free to request for any other egos. These are my defaults so specify if you want others

A scarf for Dark would be like the same grey as his skin, but it would have a bit of blue on one end and a bit of red on the other

Not really a huge fan of it but he knows you put a lot of work into it so he wears it anyway

If any other ego tries to make fun of it anti he will make them regret it

It starts to grow on him after a while

Wilford would, of course, get a classic bubble gum pink scarf that matches his mustache

You may have slipped a bit of bubble gum extract on to it so it smells like bubble gum

His face lights up when he gets it and he will hug you so tightly you might lose a rib

Wears it all the time except when he has an interview because he still wants to show off his bowtie

He won’t be as subtle as Dark if someone insults it. He will just shoot them.

You get a scarf for each Google with their corresponding color and maybe a few black lines to make it resemble a circuit board

Points out that he’s a robot and doesn’t need to stay warm

You just roll your eyes and wrap it around his neck

He looks confused, but he doesn’t take it off and eventually grows used to it

Will probably forget it’s there at some point and if someone points it out he’ll look down and smile and realize he needs it for other reasons

It’s really a lot of effort to put in for someone who can’t see

He still really appreciates it and almost never takes it off

Deathly afraid that some of the blood from his eyes will drip onto it so you help reassure him and change his bandages more often

You would make Bing a scarf that matches his shirt which is black with the yellow Bing symbol

Calls it “super rad bruh” which is probably a good thing

At one point he’s wearing it while skateboarding and it somehow gets stuck in the wheels which leads to Bing falling down some stairs and almost choking to death but it’s still pretty funny

You have since banned wearing a scarf while skateboarding

He spends a really long time trying to fix the damage that was done to it so you won’t be upset

It doesn’t turn out good, per se, but it’s nice that he tried

Bim Trimmer’s scarf would be pretty simple, black with crisscrossing grey lines

Doesn’t wear it on screen bc he’s clearly a professional but will wear it when he goes out of the house

Okay but if you guys were on a coffee date or something and he’s wearing the scarf it would be super cute

He’s a little easier to talk to when he’s wearing it. It humbles him

You make a light blue scarf for reporter Jim and a red one for cameraman Jim

It’s honestly so you can tell them apart easier

When you give it to them, reporter Jim goes on a very long-winded observation on the color and craftsmanship

“Look at this expert handiwork, Jim! And what’s that? Why it’s a knot, carefully concealed by the rest of the material. This is a rare sighting.”

hidden, do you happen to know where to buy some digimon crests that include all 8 that isn't an absolutely outrageous price?

Hi there!  I’m not really a merch buff, and a lot of official merch is a single-round pre-order only...  I’m seeing a lot of scalped official 15th anniversary sets running about $200, yikes!  There are people on Etsy who make unofficial sets, but I wouldn’t expect hand made items to be cheap...  Cheaper than the scalpers, though!

Here’s a set of all 8 crests, here’s a set of 11 (+kindness, miracles, fate/destiny).

So...  I want to explain why official merch is expensive.  I don’t wanna be That Guy, though, so I’ll throw it under the cut for folks who aren’t interested.  (Also, anon, please don’t take this as a dig; it looks like the official Bandai crest sets are long sold out, so you literally can’t buy it from them, regardless.  You’re also correct that the scalper prices are outrageous and obnoxious).

Official merch tends to be expensive because the target audience is small.  There are waaaaay more people who don’t know what a digimon crest is than people who do!  It’s called an economy of scale; basically, the more units you produce and sell, the cheaper each unit is...  The fewer units you expect to sell, the more each unit must cost in order to turn a profit.  And, unfortunately, there aren’t that many people who want digimon merch, compared to...  Say, people who need diapers or clothing.  That’s also why they have pre-orders and don’t continually produce merch.  They just can’t afford to produce items for so few buyers.

(And sadly, there are scalpers who will buy multiples of limited-run merchandise and sell them at a huuuuge markup after the pre-order period ends...).

I won’t pretend to be an economist, or to know how money is made off of animation...  But I’m guessing it’s mostly: 

1.) Ad revenue (ie, commercials that play during episode broadcasts) 

2.)  Revenue from streaming sources paying to offer your show, like Crunchyroll

3.)  Licensed merchandise

4.)  Ticket sales for theatrical showings/Bluray and DVD sales

The best way to make sure we are able to continue enjoying Digimon is to avoid pirating it (buy the blurays/DVDs if you can, if not, use a streaming source that paid to show it, like Crunchyroll) and to buy official merch.  It takes a lot of cash to animate and broadcast a show, and it’s only done if the studio expects to profit.

Sigh, I want to watch Kizuna...

Anyway, obviously, I’m not here to tell anyone what to do!  I just want to point out why official merch is expensive and limited run, and that you’re buying more than merch when you purchase it.  You’re basically patronizing Digimon by paying Bandai.  Obviously, money is hella tight for everyone, but...  If I can get a particular piece of awesome merch and contribute to more Digimon content simultaneously...  Well, I’ll have two things to enjoy.
