#it's intergenerational and it should stay that way
Text
It is beyond dumb and annoying as fuck when people look at characters who're in intergenerational friendships and immediately jump to pedopjacking the older character even if their dynamic is healthy because it blatantly overlooks WHY kids and adults being close friends can be bad. It's not a problem on it's own,the problem is a lot adults don't actually care about kids or are fucking ped0s and the solution isn't not let them interact except relatives fullstop,it's to teach younger how to identify predators so they can stay away from them and pretty much nobody who's insistent on the thing i'm talking about does it!In latino cultures like mine,it's normalized for children and older folks to be close even with no blood relations to form a stronger and safer community and it's also normalized to tell kids that it's wrong for adults to view them sexually(admitedly, this is sadly not universal but there's tons of latino regions where pedophiles are considered not people)
Kids and adults CAN have real friendships but it's important for the adults in them to establish proper boundries and not use the younger person as a therapist and in fact,it should be the other way around because it's the job of older people to be positive figures in younger ones lives they can count on and since i'm an eldest sibling who's always gotten along with their little siblings,i enjoy hanging out with and taking care of younger people and not expecting adult behavior from them because that's what my s/os and adult friends are for! It's also a personal thing for me because i got bullied growing up and had absolute ass adults all around me so this is my way of breaking the cycle of abuse by being the person for my bio siblings and my intergenerational friends i wished i'd had and i see the latter as my siblings too(and vice versa)since it's a culture thing i was raised in to see your friends as the same as family
'Why would an adult be close friends with a kid? That's weird!'Because kids are people with feelings and personalities of their own and not 'puritans' or 'stupid' or 'losers' or 'taking up space' or 'should know better even if they weren't taught better' and some of us reacted to experiencing child abuse by growing up to care about kids because we were once them too and the fact that you'd rather believe nobody could ever love a child in a familial way without abusive intentions says a lot about you with how you treat them in general, hope this fucking helps bitch!!!!

The Asian Drama Generational Trauma Challenge List
Tumblr media
gif by @youdontloveme-yet
As @waitmyturtles has been making her way through her OGMMTVC I have been continuing to watch way too many dramas and thinking about the ones I want her to watch when she’s done with that project. And because I know Turtles, it’s always the dramas that feature themes around intergenerational trauma, filial piety, and lots of emotionally fraught interactions between parents and children that ping my “Turtles needs to watch this” radar. As I was mentioning the shows I wanted her to watch, Turtles joked that maybe I should make her a new challenge list that is focused on intergenerational trauma.
And if y’all haven’t learned this about me yet, you should know that I have no chill and absolutely will embark on a whole project because you make a stray comment in my direction. So here we are!
Tumblr media
gif by @piningbisexuals
I wanted this list to be inclusive of a broad range of Asian dramas, exploring how it shows up in different Asian countries and through both het and queer lenses, so I consulted quite a few friends. Shoutout to @wen-kexing-apologist, @so-much-yet-to-learn, @bengiyo, @shortpplfedup, @ginnymoonbeam, and @emotionallychargedtowel for helping me refine this list. We landed on the following criteria:
Modern dramas only—not necessarily current but set in a time period recent enough that we don’t have a whole additional set of social mores to layer on top
The drama explores intergenerational trauma, not just intergenerational dynamics (so shows like Reply 1988 that are very much about family but not necessarily trauma are not on the list)
Intergenerational trauma is a primary focus and a major theme of the drama, not a background theme, a surprise reveal, or just part of a character’s backstory to engender sympathy (waves goodbye to most chaebol romcoms)
We are using the word trauma in a broad sense here–a lot of the complex trauma featured in these shows would not meet the formal DSM diagnostic criteria as a Traumatic Event
We did apply a quality filter–the execution of the story needs to be good enough that the intergenerational trauma themes stay intact, even if the drama overall is not a total slam dunk

Note also that this list is not chronological and there is no suggested watch order. I also do not recommend binging all of these dramas one after the other. Some of these shows are heavy and you’ll want to space them out. This is a challenge to complete over time!
I decided to share this on tumblr in case others are similarly weird and wanted to undertake this challenge with us. If any of you see this and decide to watch some of these, please tag me with your progress and thoughts! I have also linked each show’s MDL page so you can see the synopsis and general warning tags, but if you want specific content warnings for any of these shows, feel free to comment or message me.

Interlude
Would you like some celebrity AU in these trying times? Have some nonsense; don't worry about Eli, he's an OC, it's fine.
*
“Finally tonight, my producers won’t let me end the show without discussing the most compelling story in the nation, a tale of intergenerational drama which begs the question: which speaks to you most? Do you like a redemption arc, recognition coming after decades of struggle? Or a reward for raw, young talent the likes of which has never before been seen? These questions will possibly be answered Sunday night, when the Emmy Awards give a trophy to…a Best Supporting Actor in a Drama.
“On the one hand you have Bruno Madrigal, whose offscreen exploits have overshadowed his work for decades. In recent years, however, he’s become beloved by children as the voice of Hernando the Crab in the animated Shore Thing film series and attracted critical acclaim in indie films such as The Collaboration and onstage in an off-Broadway revival of Endgame. Now he’s nominated for his role as Oscar Ramos, a pedicab driver with a secret in AMC’s thriller Upper West.
“Then there’s his nephew, Camilo Madrigal, who has veered away from the music careers of his mother and sister to follow - cautiously, we hope - in his uncle’s acting footsteps. He has more than a knack for it, given his star turn as nine different characters…or maybe it’s the same one in different phases, who knows what’s happening on Max’s scifi-horror hit Idle Hands? My nephew’s tried to explain it several times, but I’ve given up figuring it out.
“So, where do you fall: Team Camilo, or Team Bruno? Personally I think we as a society should have moved past these hashtag labels a long time ago, but if I were a betting man? I’d say the Madrigals are going to split the voters and we’ll get the winner we deserve, the venerable J.K. Simmons.
“That’s it for me this evening, stay tuned for the latest headlines on ‘Nightbeat’, and I’ll see you back here bright and early Sunday morning for ‘Mas with Guzmán’. Buenos noches.”
The news program theme music played, and Bruno would have continued mindlessly playing Candy Crush on his phone but-
“You know there’s a rumor you slept with that guy.”
Bruno glanced to his right. Eli was slumped the corner of the couch, smirking, light brown hair tousled and hazel eyes glancing his way with a mischievous twinkle. Bruno scowled.
“You don’t- that’s ridiculous. I can’t help it if people think we had chemistry or there were ‘sparks flying’ in that interview or whatever, but it’s all…fanflick?”
Eli laughed and gently kicked his shin, he retaliated by pinching his knee. “Fanfic, boomer.”
“Everybody really does forget about Gen X,” Bruno muttered, then shook his head. “Anyway. The point is I can’t believe people still think Pulitzer prize winning reporter José Guzmán would risk his journalistic integrity by hooking up with me.”
“Depends.” Eli straightened up to lean closer, waggling his eyebrows. “Is ‘journalistic integrity’ what he calls his-”
“Guys! I’m still right here!”
They both cringed and glanced over the back of the sofa towards the kitchen, where Mirabel had taken over the island in a flurry of embroidery floss. She’d swiveled around on the barstool to give them a glare, but a smile still tugged at the corner of her mouth.
“Sorry.”
“Sorry, Mira.”
She nodded, satisfied. “Thank you.” A moment or two slipped by, a perfect pause, before she went on. “But you totally did hook up with him, right?”
Bruno blinked, turned back to the TV, and picked up the remote. “I am changing the channel. It’s a metaphor for changing the subject.”
Shortly after that Mirabel presented him with a baseball cap emblazoned with “#TeamCamilo”, and a black necktie which she’d decorated with symbols representing all of the Madrigal family…and a blue, pink, and white striped heart for Eli. Bruno happily wore both on the Emmys red carpet two nights later.
*
A/N: he did totally hook up with him. Celebverse!José is basically Anderson Cooper. Yes he does get stuck doing New Year's Eve with Andy Cohen still, it's fine. As for who wins the Emmy, it's been almost two years and I am still not sure.

Perhaps this is a contrarian opinion, but I think it's good for young'uns to lie about their ages to access adult content.
To be clear, this is not something every minor should do. If you don't think you can handle adult content (whether it's porn or taxes), then stay in the kiddie pool. There's nothing wrong with knowing your limits, and fuck anybody who says otherwise.
But for a certain type of precocious little shit, like I was, it is a safer way to find and test limits. Did I run across stuff that disturbed me, especially in an age of no content warnings? Yeah, but for the most part I don't remember what specifically it was*.
Attitudes about this have shifted so much from when I was a young'un, literal decades ago. Which I find interesting, because there were specific kid-friendly places, as well as general public spaces where you would run into people of all ages. Those intergenerational friendships were important, in the way that it helped me relate to people of different backgrounds and cultures, and just having adults in my life that didn't have power over me but still looked after my well-being.
I don't think it's coincidental this age segregation correlates with a lot of younger people having extremely weird ideas of what adult life is like. Yes we pay taxes and go to work, but there's also room for the same hobbies and fandoms you enjoyed as a young'un. And I also understand why adults don't necessarily want minors in their spaces, but it is absolutely possible to have friendships between adults and kids that aren't creepy and predatory.
Of course this doesn't work if both sides 1. don't maintain the polite fiction** 2. understand pretending to be an adult means you act like a fucking adult and don't freak out when adult topics are discussed (see asterisk 1).
This is all just word vomit, so I'm sure there's some point I forgot to make. I'm just surprised attitudes have shifted so much since I had to lie about my age.
--
* I also think kids were not treated like something that made them uncomfortable would traumatize them for life. As I keep banging on about, discomfort is not the same as harm.
** I don't think any of us passed as 18+. But we all pretended, and honestly I think it was better that way.

The Komi Report - Communication 434 & 435
It's the final Komi of 2023 (T_T). This week:
Tumblr media
An intergenerational connection!
Read It: Mangareader Mangakakalot Viz Media (North America Exclusive) Mangadex (Dead, but there’s the backlog. And Spanish language updates, if you read Spanish)
This first thought is about last week - I think Komi should also go on a date with Rumiko. You know, to keep things even. And they should kiss. And become girlfriends.
Anyway...
This is a stunning coincidence! Just this weekend past I was talking to my sister about the benefits of intergenerational bonding. I started typing out a personal anecdote about these two music teachers I had as a teenager, but I'll spare you that and tell you just this much - I loved those nice old fellas.
----------------------------
Tumblr media
That's them! From the first scene of the anime! aksjdnkaj
Tumblr media
I don't know off the top of my head if or when they've appeared in the manga before, but I'm pleased to see them.
----------------------------
Tumblr media
"old woman who is always on the street" that'll be me come 50 years.
----------------------------
Tumblr media
This bit is so cute. So full of nervous energy she can't stop moving
----------------------------
Tumblr media
nice little bit of foreshadowing 👍 no doubt that's a portrait of Michita's late husband there.
----------------------------
Tumblr media
Her soliloquy about loneliness and needing a sense of community is so real. I could go on and on about the value of young folk socializing with old folk but I'll just say this - what makes growing old so hard is becoming isolated, understimulated, and forgotten. It will happen to all of us unless we change our culture!! Befriend an old person today!!!
----------------------------
Tumblr media
Here we can see the clock reads ~5:55. In Comm 432:
Tumblr media
we can't see the little hand because Tomo (who is conspicuously absent in Comm 435) is in the way, but I'm willing to bet the clock reads ~5:05. So Komi slept on Tadano's lap for around 50 minutes. That's a good ol' nap.
----------------------------
That's the end of Komi for 2023! These last chapters are sweet and comfy, and I'm glad to end the year on a high note.
and what a heck of a year it's been!
Viz began the simulpub; we had all that scanlation drama; Komi and Tadano's first kiss; Kawai proposed; Emoyama, Ogiya, Yadano, and Fuki all got surprising and heartfelt spotlights; Yamai had that chapter I refused to report on asjdnajsdn; and so much more!!! Not to mention... I started The Komi Report!
I dwell in anticipation for another exciting year to come.
Tumblr media
But this isn't the last you'll hear from me before then. Oh, no. Tune in next week for a special 2023 roundup edition of The Komi Report! I want to list my favourite chapters from this year, talk about things that happened before I started the report, and whatever else springs into my mind between now and then!
I hope to see you next week! Until then, stay safe!

Intergenerational Solidarity (Class 1-A & Mr. Aizawa, Aizawa x Fem Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: A famous (and pretty!) Quirkless author and combat expert comes to share her wisdom with Class 1-A. She is quite smitten with both the boisterous students and their homeroom teacher, so she asks Aizawa on a date and offers to take the students on a big shopping spree if they help her get ready. Most of the students go with her, but a few stay behind with their teacher...
Notes: This is a long, very fluffy, sentimental piece that actually started as a goofy chat thread. Set shortly after the Sports Festival, it looks at the dynamic between Aizawa and his students. Aizawa is shy and a bit awkward--definitely not Daddyzawa. Shinsou is in Class 1-A. Fair warning: this is an atypical Reader fic on two counts: a) it's in the third person and b) Reader is essentially off-screen for most of it, as it's really about the lads helping Mr. Aizawa get ready for his big date with Reader. There will be a follow-up describing said big date in the more traditional second person Reader format.
Continued in: To Have His Back
Class was over for the day, but 1-A was in no hurry. The students stared hard at Mr. Aizawa, mentally willing him to not mess this up.
Unfortunately, instead of, say, telling this stunning woman who somehow wanted to go on a date with him that he looked forward to seeing her later that evening, or anything else that even they—literal dumb hormonal teenagers—knew you should do, he started padding over to the yellow bag in the corner.
Shinsou was first to try to avert disaster: “Mr. Aizawa, can you—"
Their teacher just stopped, gave him the I’m-not-answering-a-question-from-you-how-stupid-do-you-think-I-am? look that everyone in Class 1-A had quickly become accustomed to, and crouched down to tuck himself in.
Thankfully, this had bought Jirou and Satou enough time to hustle [Name] out into the hallway before she realized that yes, he was climbing into a sleeping bag. They were soon followed by most of the rest of the class, who were excited for the shopping spree.
Iida stayed behind because it was his duty. Bakugou was making noises about sparring, so all the boys who were desperate for any chance to best each other, but were trying to pretend they were chill and nonchalant—that is, Todoroki, Midoriya, and Shinsou—stayed. So did Kaminari and Tokoyami, who apparently wanted to see how all this was going to play out more than they wanted to spend [Name's] money.
Yaoyorozu was last out the door, glaring at Iida as she backed into the hallway. She pointed with one hand at the sleeping bag, making a fist in her hair with the other, and mouthing, “HELP HIM!”  Iida nodded vigorously, but said nothing until the rest of the class had been gone for about five minutes and the now-familiar sound of snoring was radiating from the yellow sleeping bag, like a demented purr.
At that, everyone who was still in class turned back to look at him. He shrugged.
“What should we do?” It was an uncharacteristically hesitant question from the class representative.
“This is pretty fuckin’ hopeless.”
All the heads turned toward Bakugou. Someone softly said, “A bit harsh.”
“I didn’t say we don’t do something. He got broken in pieces keeping us alive. We at least have to try to help him. Somehow.”
That Iida and Bakugou had allowed uncertainty to seep into their voices underscored the severity of the situation.
“OK,” said Shinsou. “So, he’s not going to wear anything that isn’t black, right?”
“I think that’s a safe guess,” replied Tokoyami.
“We should get him to, like arrange his capture weapon differently. I’ve been trying to experiment with some new looks myself…”
While Shinsou continued, Todoroki stared at him in a quiet and unnerving way. Both he and Midoriya were taking notes and occasionally glancing at one another Then, they started whispering.
It kind of pissed Shinsou off that they were doing this because was he was like, right there.
“Do you have something to say to me?”
Midoriya held up a notebook that had some kind of shitty sketches of Shinsou and Aizawa and a lot of arrows randomly arcing over the page.
“Do you have any proof” said Todoroki, as nonchalantly as if he were asking what you were having for lunch, “that the man you live with is your father?”
Shinsou clearly brushed the question off as a failed attempt at teasing and was about to start talking again when the meaning of his classmate’s query finally sunk in.
“WAIT, WHAT?”
Everyone else’s mouth was just sort of agape. Well, almost everyone’s.
“This is the dumbest conversation…can’t you sidekicks do basic math?” hissed Bakugou.
“Thank you,” Shinsou replied.
“Don’t speak to me, extra.”
Kaminari patted Shinsou's shoulder and scowled at Bakugou.
“Uh, you guys?” said Midoriya, the pitch of his voice floating all over the place like it did when he was exceptionally nervous, “Shouldn’t we be focusing on how to help Mr. Aizawa?”
“Well, while you morons were being super weird, I actually came up with a solution,” said Bakugou. “All we have to do is get him to wear his hair up. There, we’re done. Now that I’ve handled this for the rest of you, it’s time to fight!”
“Oh, that’s what Momo was referring to! Of course!” exclaimed Iida.
Bakugou actually let his head hit his desk. “What else could she have meant, idiots? Don’t you remember how horrible it was, that day when Mr. Aizawa came to class with his hair in a ponytail?”
“I heard the second and third years say things at lunch that day that I can never unhear,” said Tokoyami. Dark Shadow popped out to nod and added a plaintive little whimper.
“People hounded me asking if I had taken pictures of him,” said Kaminari, whose face had settled into a thousand yard stare. “Why? Why would I take pictures? Even the assistants and interns on staff, grown adults, were asking me. Why?”
The zipper on Aizawa’s sleeping bag seemed to fly open of its own volition, and a surprisingly animated “WAIT, WHAT?!” emerged from the bag’s depths.
Midoriya and Todoroki exchanged glances and nodded as the latter scrawled in his notebook. Shinsou sucked in an irritated breath.
Aizawa had completely emerged from his cocoon. “I think I asked a question?”
All the eyes drifted back toward Iida. Tenya loved falling on his sword on behalf of others: why deny him such an absolutely exceptional opportunity?
He stood up, a portrait of dignity so long as you weren’t close enough to see the beads of sweat. “Mr. Aizawa, it is true. When you wore your hair in what people usually call a ‘man bun,’ it seems to, ah, have met with approval, and we were indeed asked for pictures.”
“I got asked for strands of your hair by a third year girl from General Studies,” continued Kaminari, in the tone of voice one might expect from someone whose calm afternoon has just been shattered by the sudden recollection of a particularly unsettling nightmare.
There was the most distressing silence. Mr. Aizawa’s eye may have twitched.
“Sir?” Iida asked.
No response. No one even cleared their throat. Was it possible to actually hear time passing?
Finally, Mr. Aizawa heaved a large sigh. “Well, if that is the response that people have, I guess it would be the rational thing to wear my hair that way. I do want to make a decent impression for the lady.”
Every single student blinked slowly. Oh boy, was there some work to do.
“Well, uh, maybe you should wear a suit,” said Kaminari. “Those folks asked me if I had any of those pictures too.”
Mr. Aizawa blinked slowly a couple of times and shook his head. “I think I’ll just wear my gear.”
“But Ms. Nemuri and Mr. Yamada say you clean up so nicely in a suit!”
“You can’t just tell him that,” said Iida, aghast.
Mr. Aizawa sucked in an irritated breath. Behind him, Shinsou could hear what was clearly the sound of Midoriya slapping Todoroki’s hand to get his attention.
He sucked in an irritated breath of his own, immediately followed by slamming his fist on the desk and muttering, “Damn it.”
Aizawa shot that general corner of the room a look that made it clear that, whatever it was, he did not want to know.
“Why can’t you wear a suit, Mr. Aizawa?” asked Midoriya.
“Why do you think, assholes? First, she couldn’t take her eyes off his pro gear most of the time she was in this room. It was really annoying. Second, if you’ve got a low-key costume like Mr. Aizawa’s, why wouldn’t you wear it if you were taking out a famous and gorgeous lady who literally everyone on earth knows is Quirkless? Wouldn’t you want to be extra prepared in case you needed to protect her?”
As the sounds of realization echoed throughout the room, Mr. Aizawa and Bakugou shared something that neither of them had imagined sharing when they woke up that morning: a look of solidarity.
Things were descending into chaos. Iida and Tokoyami were huddled in the back, Todoroki and Midoriya were doing, well, whatever their thing was, and Shinsou, uncharacteristically, had a lot to say:
“How could he not know that his hair thing drives everyone crazy?” Shinsou was hiding behind his capture weapon to try and keep his voice low. “I thought he knew everything. I thought he never made mistakes. Is this a crisis of faith? Kaminari?!”
Kaminari’s mouth opened and he really did try to say something, bless his heart, but all they heard was Todoroki muttering, “This is how I acted when I became disillusioned with my own father.”
Just as Shinsou was about to get out of his chair and just start pummeling his classmate, damn the consequences, all the boys became aware that Mr. Aizawa was speaking again.
“Well, according to what you all have heard, should I shave, or not?”
Once again, it became pin-drop silent in Class 1-A. His voice had been completely sincere, with no trace of distance or defensiveness. And there were his eyes. All the boys saw the change: it was as though they were the eyes of a much younger man. Sure, they were still bloodshot, still had the bags, and carried great sadness, but the outright suspicion and exhaustion with life had receded and made room for something rather unexpected: Mr. Aizawa’s eyes were just a little excited. A little hopeful. They were the eyes of a boy who had once been, or maybe still was, more like them than they could have ever imagined before this moment.
If one was paying careful attention to the boys’ facial expressions, it became clear they were having a series of individual, but interlinked, realizations.
He’s nervous.
He’s, like, as nervous as we would be.
He’s still here because he’s reasoned that we’ll actually understand best.
He wants to talk to us because his adult friends don’t remember how this feels.
He’s decided we’re least likely to laugh at him.
Midoriya’s lip actually trembled a bit and something seemed caught in his throat. A new surge of collective resolve charged the entire room.
“What I have heard around the school suggests ‘shave’” Tokoyami volunteered.
“I agree, “said Iida. “It is a sign of honorable respect.”
“Shave,” said Todoroki.
“100%” added Kaminari.
“Yeah, just shave and put your hair up. It’s not hard, geez” Bakugou’s voice lacked any of its usual contempt.
“We were saying earlier, while you were napping, that, you know, maybe you could kind of, maybe drape your capture weapon like so…?” Shinsou modeled the look he’d shown off earlier. “It’s supposed to be stylish.”
To their absolute collective shock, their teacher fumbled about with his capture weapon until he had replicated Shinsou’s look. Everyone murmured in approval.
“That’s good,” said Iida.
“It really does make a difference,” said Tokoyami.
“You’ve got this, Mr. Aizawa,” said Shinsou.
Their teacher cast his eyes down for a moment and then looked back up at them, having apparently summoned a bit of his usual stoicism.  “Well, now that we’ve settled all that, I guess I should take a shower and get ready. I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but I appreciate your willingness to help. Go ahead and spar, but don’t actually hurt each other. If you do, I’ll have to cancel my date, and you won’t want to deal with me if that happens.”
And with that, he shuffled out of the room.
“Maybe it will go well, guys!” said Midoriya.
***
Class 1-A, now fully reconstituted, was walking back from dinner when they spied Mr. Aizawa walking toward the main gate with a particularly unreadable look on his face.
“Good, you idiots got him to wear his hair up and shave,” said Mina. “But why does he have such a weird expression?”
“I think we may have accidentally destroyed his entire worldview,” said Tokoyami. “I bet he’s not missing how people are acting around him now.”
“Yep,” said Midoriya, “he totally clocked that guy who just tried to take a stealth picture.”
“And that girl,” added Hagakure.
“Wait. Wait—he didn’t know that people go crazy for the hair?” said Tsuyu.
“Completely clueless,” replied Shinsou. Kaminari patted him on the shoulder. “It’s OK man, no one can be perfect.”
[Name] emerged into their field of vision. “Holy shit, there she is,” said Kirishima.
“Her and Mr. Aizawa,” said Sero. “Wow.”
As the two of them came closer together, everyone in Class 1-A held their breath. It seemed as though they awkwardly looked at each other forever, and then Mr. Aizawa clumsily took [Name’s] hand, and some students gasped or winced, but then he brought it up to his lips—sure, it certainly wasn’t the most graceful version of the gesture, but still—and gently kissed it.
“Yeah, Mr. Aizawa, you can do it,” said Midoriya softly. Other students were gently clapping or letting out little cheers.
There was a huge sniffle behind them. The class wheeled around to see Ms. Nemuri, who had a pretty tear falling down her face.
“Thank heavens someone told him to wear his hair up,” she said, laughing weakly, trying to make things feel light. “You—you—you’re all sweet,” she said, sniffling one more time and speeding away in the direction of her rooms as fast as she could.
There were a few squeals of surprise when Dark Shadow popped out and fluttered his wings as though he was just completely done. “This has been the strangest day,” said Tokoyami. “The fact that she asked out our homeroom teacher, who usually looks like something a cat dragged in from an alleyway, is somehow the least weird thing about it.”
“Our shopping spree was crazy,” said Tsuyu. “They closed stores for us and everything.”
“Whatever. It wasn’t half as weird as the conversation we had with Mr. Aizawa,” said Bakugo. “He was so incredibly not cool, but that somehow made it cool.” Tch. “Fuck it, I don’t know.”
Kaminari nodded solemnly. “It was a totally weird conversation. I mean, did you that Todoroki and Midoriya think Mr. Aizawa is Shinsou’s dad?”
*** A loud chorus of “WAIT, WHAT?” rang across the UA grounds, and it might have caught Mr. Aizawa’s attention, might have made him distracted or anxious, except for the fact that he and [Name] were already on their way, hidden by tinted windows and privacy screens in a fancy car.
If the students had thought ahead or been better spies, they would have been able to see how, at that very moment, [Name] was beaming at their teacher—much in the same way that one smiles to try to calm and coax a terrified kitten—as she gently rested her hand on top of his and said (with a bit of a blush on her cheeks!), “Your hair looks really nice.”

rules: list ten books that have stayed with you in some way, don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard - they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.
haha oops it's long. i'll go ahead and put my chain letter bit up here if you folks would like to have a crack at it: @atomic-madness , @the-atrium-of-fools , @another-sad-lieutenant ?
I'm gonna take "books" loosely—some of the pieces of writing that have affected me most were short stories. In no particular order:
1. "There Will Come Soft Rains", Ray Bradbury
is the house, broken, obsolete, and alone, still a house? the gentle death is far more painful than the violent one. oh shit i just realized how much this story influenced my d&d character
2. "A Fisherman of the Inland Sea", Ursula K. Le Guin
i have so many second-/third-generation immigrant feelings about this story. even if you could do it all again, better this time, there would always be something too late to be changed, it was already part of you... when you make a decision there's always something you leave behind... and then there's the ansible and the desperate futility of communicating with a world "you" cannot return to...
3. "A New Refutation of Time", Jorge Luis Borges
this one's an essay! well kind of also a prose poem. one of those works that found me at exactly the right time in my life to punch me in the gut. "The world, unfortunately, is real. I, unfortunately, am Borges." sooo true girlie.
4. Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer
i don't know what to say just please read this if you haven't. it changed the way i love
5. Pachinko, Min Jin Lee
i do enjoy a good intergenerational epic! despite spanning a century, each character was written with so much love and humanity. this book sat down in my stomach in 2018 and has not budged since.
6. The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer
7. Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
speaking of epics with ensemble casts whose humanity breaks me. there's nothing i can say that hasn't already been said. i love People
everyone shut up about victor. the creature is so fucking transgender. i cannot emphasize enough how transgender the creature is. envisioned as Adam, cast as Satan, yet so often paralleling Eve. conceived as the perfect man, meticulously designed, and rejecting the design. bristling against his own body. the monster is Creation itself, creating itself. but i didn't give you that option! none of us are given that option. <-part of an unfinished diatribe ignited by my ap lit teacher
8. A Tale Dark and Grimm, Adam Gidwitz
10. The Unfolding of Language, Guy Deutscher
a silly trilogy and not one i particularly enjoy as an adult, but i found it very cathartic as an unwell nine-year-old with violent fantasies.
9. Superman from the 30's to the 70's
i inherited my affection for Superman from my dad, mostly through this anthology. at one point i had the first couple issues in it memorized. i got some very strange ideas about crime from this book before i learned enough about the modern world to realize that's not quite how things work
words (and art and ideas and loss and transformation) are so fucking cool you guys. this was my comfort book as a tween but i honestly hadn't thought of it in a while. i should go back and reread it

There are many story elements to look forward to in October's upcoming T&B Season 2 cour 2 release. Admittedly, I have been fixated on what they will do with the elephant in the room- the absolute wild card- which is the direction or fate of Judge-turned-Director Yuri Petrov.
First off, it's actually hilarious how his character and position changes between season 1 / The Rising and season 2. This guy starts out as an antagonistic vigilante who hates heroes and heroTV due to his personal traumas to becoming heroTV's director. This guy who canonically insults heroes and thinks about defeating them in a fight in his internal monologues to the point he loses track of his surroundings. This guy, Lunatic, has tried to kill half of his employees in the previous season and now he's giving Kotetsu and Barnaby counselling and pep talks. Comedically, it's fantastic and rife with shenanigans. But thematically, there are huge implications for Yuri's character arc and for the message of the show as a whole.
Did Yuri take the director position because he's starting to care about the people under the masks after his encounters with Kotetsu throughout the series? Does the judge want to change heroTV for the better and becoming the director allow him a unique position to do so? Could we see Yuri fixing the very system that destroyed his father?
One of the unresolved threads of season 1 is what will happen to Lunatic. Sure, Lunatic could just never be captured and stays static, continuing to do what he's already doing in the background as we've seen in season 1 and The Rising. Alternatively, we've seen in T&B that it's easy to just let the villains perish (Though, do the writers really see Lunatic as a villain?). Other people have commented that Yuri should be in jail, alive - but repenting for his actions (like antagonist Andrew Scott from The Rising). And while those might have been the thematic decision for a show about superheroes created in 2011, I argue that letting Yuri die or putting him in jail would not be the satisfying moral conclusion in 2022.
Let Yuri change. He already has changed a lot between seasons from his promotion to director (Although, most of his actions and decisions as director are rather passive in the first half of season 2). He cares about heroes enough to rush into action with Kotetsu while still as a civilian. Furthermore, Lunatic hasn't showed up for the first half of the season (much to people's disappointment to not see their favourite vigilante after a 10 year wait, but within the context of his changing character this absence does makes sense).
Then, let Yuri change the system. Let the same person who was traumatized by what heroTV did to his family work his way up to judge and director and then slowly fix heroTV as only someone in his position can to save his new family. Let him break out of that cycle of trauma caused by greed and corruption instead of perpetrating it further as a murderer guided by his guilt and hauntings. Look, I desperately want Lunatic to show up again and do his cool murder thing but it doesn't have to be within the same context and motivations as season 1.
Killing Yuri wouldn't solve anything. He would die as just another tragic figure and I daresay it's the lazy way out of interesting storytelling for his character. Isolating him in jail wouldn't be more torture and punishing than what he already put himself through. Instead, let Yuri's arc be a metaphor of change and becoming much better than what intergenerational trauma caused someone to become - mistakes and all, damn it. Let the victim try and fix what hurt him so that no one else will go through the same suffering that created the misguided and tragic Lunatic.
This is the modern story that I hope Tiger and Bunny will tell.

a list of things i like or notice about don't mind cruxmont, composed at 2 a.m. mid-listen:
(there r spoilers here a lil bit)
gwen's "a-a-and..."/"ah-ahhh..." verbal tic that shines through especially in tense situations or when She Is Lying Or Being Crafty
neal can be super abrasive and rash but also pulls back to gentle concern at a speed of 273627 mph if the situation calls for it and that's real endearing
the sound the sound the sound design. i've said it before and i'll say it again the sheer immersion travis can envelop kaitlyn's worlds in is so excellent
the inherent and ever present agony having of a loved one who is unwell. the crushing guilt of wanting an escape from the overwhelming pressure of being a support. the panic of not knowing if they are okay because you are tired and worn and want a second to yourself but you want them to be okay, just for a little. the weight of bearing another soul. oh man
basically every time neal and colin have a flashback interaction or he talks abt colin i have to take a minute man it hits close to home
that said. They Are Gamers, Your Honor.
the way gwen owns and pursues her goal while acknowledging that there is some level of selfishness to it!!! protags should be selfish!!! i love her for that that was a good part!
the intergenerational dynamic/bond neal and gwen form is so so super good. i love the dry humor they employ with each other in the situation. i love the earnest little "stay safe"s. do you understand. i LOVE them
another thing i mention literally every three to five business days but. dude daniel demerin is literally one of the best underground VAs i love literally every single one of his roles so much and this one is no different. neal my bestie the loml my good time boy
there is a rawness that ka statz employs when conveying things that are very harsh or tragic or intense, and that the voice actors carry to a tangible degree. idk how to describe it but like. okay im dipping into VAST and TWV a little bit here
gwen at the pond. poe in the escape pod. eva's "please find them. please find us." dude i feel those in my core. it's visceral. essay pending on that in particular later ig lol
there is such an air of hostility and suspicion over the whole village and i've been listening with a sense of mild discomfort the whole time which i think really is the intent. superb
also love that neal ends up tussling with children all the time that rocks. i esp like how they give up and indulge him like Man You're Annoying. that's great

What’s a movie or show that everyone loves that you don’t think thats good
Those are a lot of movies, lmao.
I remember when everyone was gushing about The Town and I was like, it's a typical bank robber movie, why is this getting lauded?
Honestly, kind of anything from Guillermo del Toro, which I know is blasphemy but every time I watch a movie of his I'm like, I expected to be way more moved than I was, the only movie that has stayed with me was Pan's Labyrinth but I remember everyone going OFF about Shape of Water and I was like .... I guess? I just feel like it's pretty.
I haven't spoken about this in years because it created this whole thing on my blog but I really fucking hate Frozen and I think Tangled was better.
I expected Brave to be much better.
Any Marvel movie that isn't Black Panther, Ragnarok and even though most of the cast is shitty the first GotG.
I didn't think American Hustle was that great and I was disappointed because I went in expecting to love it.
In the Jennifer Lawrence vein, I don't dislike Silver Linings Playbook, I just think it was way overhyped for something that was, at most, decent.
OK this one is different because unless you're racist, you don't love Birth of a Nation but I'm including it because I'm tired of film school/cinema programs including it in the syllabus. I had to watch that movie at least once a year in undergrad because every film class played it.
I found Inglorious Basterds to be pretty forgettable tbh and while I actually do like Christoph Waltz's performance and his other performances, I think Hans Landa is an overrated villain.
The Harry Potter movies are like, it's not that I don't love them because I have so much childhood nostalgia wrapped up in them and me and my friends were kind of a mess about the last movie coming out because it meant the end of something for us, but after I would say the third movie, they're not good movies and I feel like we should be honest about that. There was a slight return to form in Part 1 of the Deathly Hallows although people got bored with the camping sequences but yeah.
I didn't see La La Land but I just know in my bones that if I ever did see it I would just be like, oh.
I haven't watched much Hitchcock but I feel like I'm just not a fan based on what I have seen i.e. North by Northwest, I wanted to riot in my class. That stupid fucking plane.
I should rewatch Black Swan but I remember when I did watch it I was like THIS is what everyone is freaking out over? Anyway.
I concede that Mad Max Fury Road is a visual spectacle but that's all it is so everyone freaking out about it had me like, it just does some cool things here and there, why is this an AMAZING movie?
Avatar is just a horrible movie.
Crash is so extremely racist while pretending not to be racist and it was SO lauded.
I think Spencer was a pretty film but I think people overhyped Kristen's performance in it, so much work seemed to be trying to sound like Diana and it just became a breathy mess imo.
And finally, Encanto. I went back and forth with a lot of anons about this one, but the structure and narrative of this movie was a complete mess.
And just in case this becomes another Frozen incident, I'm just linking the back-and-forths I did with anons here so people can read them if they want:

Picturebook roundup: December 2023
Tumblr media
i'm back with another picturebook roundup! the changing of the year always means end of year lists, and i have been putting in library requests left and right for books that look interesting. i read a lot over my winter break!
Corner by Zo-O
a very cute book that's almost undone for me by the difficulties of the central design element, but not quite. as you might expect, the whole story of this mostly wordless book takes place in the corner of a room, as represented in the book by the gutter (the center where the two pages come together at the spine). because of the way hardcover picturebooks are bound, it's difficult to open this book completely flat; one aspect of picturebook design is allowing for and working around the gutter, where some of the image inevitably disappears. this means that the protagonist of Corner, a very cute crow, is lost in some of the first images in the book, where they're sitting in the corner or otherwise doing things there. i can see where the visual cleverness is coming from, and at the same time i can't actually satisfyingly see all of the images, which are centered around this difficult space.
that said, the action quickly moves into other parts of the room as the crow expands their space, adding a bed, and a dresser, and a plant, and painting the walls, and dancing to music. the art is lovely and soft, maybe colored pencil? and the geometric patterns the crow draws all over the high walls of their room are delightful to me. finally, the last step to making the room perfect is to cut out part of the wall to create a window, and see the world outside. it's a simple story about creating a comfortable space for oneself and then being willing to open that space to contact with others. i just wish the spreads were a little more carefully placed at the beginning to fully show the crow and not bury them in the gutter!
age rec: simple and slow, great for 2 and 3 and 4 year olds who are into noticing details and seeing what changes from page to page, and will resonate with anyone who went through COVID lockdown or any other kind of isolating experience.
a bit i really liked: i love the crow's relationship with their houseplant.

more books under the cut!

When Rubin Plays by Gracey Zhang
SO CHARMING! Rubin is a very cute little boy who admires the music of the orchestra in his village, and wants to learn to play the violin. when he practices in the music room, he stays at the back and plays very quietly so as not to disturb the orchestra with his inexpert playing, but after rehearsal he goes into the forest to practice alone as loudly as he wants, and amasses an audience of appreciative, yowling feral cats! the cats are extremely funny and good to me, happily yowling and dancing all around, and eventually crashing the orchestra's performance in front of the whole village. i love the loose and messy art style, it has a very retro William Steig kind of feel to me, and i love that nobody in this book ever actually tells Rubin that his playing is bad or discourages him from playing as loud as he wants--he does that himself, a little bit, but in the end everyone agrees that he should play in his own way, and his efforts are praised and appreciated.
age rec: i think this could go as young as 3 for the silliness and as old as 9 or 10 again for the silliness and for the relatability of starting to learn an instrument.
a bit i really liked: the cats CRACK ME UP

My Baba's Garden by Jordan Scott and Sydney Smith
this is a really lovely and quiet book. on the surface level it's about a grandson and grandmother and their bond, and deeper down it's gently about intergenerational trauma. the narrator's Baba lives alone in a tiny house with a subsistence garden, and takes care of her grandson while his father works. every day she makes her grandson breakfast, and if he drops any, she swoops it up and kisses it and gives it back to him; he understands this care for what it is, and finishes every bite. when Baba comes to live with him and his father instead, the narrator takes care of her in the same ways she took care of him.
the art is also quietly beautiful--Sydney Smith's style has this dreamy quality to me, a lot of interesting framing and gorgeous light and the suggestions of shapes with one or two central focal points, like faces. this is one of those books where not a ton happens, but it's super pleasant to read and look at anyway.
age rec: maybe 3-6 as a general range; great for those kids who can do a little emotional contemplation, and situationally great for kids with grandparents whose health is declining and/or need a little more help.
a bit i really liked: i adore this kitchen, i want to move in with Baba

The Mysteries by Bill Watterson and John Kascht
i requested this book from the library because it was on a year end list of weird picturebooks, and it did not disappoint! it's short but layered, funny and creepy, playfully refuses to answer its own questions, and carefully reminds the reader of our own hubris and smallness as human beings on this planet. and yes, it's that Bill Watterson, creator of Calvin & Hobbes. I can see the connective tissue between the humor of that and the humor of this, keenly observational of human nature and also a little bit dark.
and the art!!!!!! so strange and delightful! I'm not entirely sure how it's accomplished, but the backgrounds have a misty, painterly feel, while the figures look like they've been molded out of clay. it's a fantastic juxtaposition, and makes each face and each expression stand out dramatically.
age rec: this is definitely a picturebook for grownups. not to say that it would be harmful for a kid to read or something, but the level of subtlety, social commentary, creepiness, and general feeling of uncertainty seem like they'd be off-putting to a lot of kids. but if you know a little Wednesday Addams, one of those kids who really likes creepy stuff and comes out with foreboding pronouncements a lot, try this one out on them!
a bit i really liked: i am fascinated by the artwork on the walls of this artwork, i want to visit this museum

The Magicians by Blexbolex, translated from French by Karin Snelson
this is another book i heard about through a list of weird picturebooks! i don't know if i would totally classify it as a picturebook, as it's pretty long and dense, but wherever you shelve it, it's pretty neat. gorgeous to look at, in a sort of vintage style that looks a bit like woodblock printing and a bit like when picturebook illustrations did their own four color separations for their art. the effect is textured, nostalgic, and a little bit cartoony in a fun way. and the story is strange and interesting! it follows three magicians: an elephant, a bird, and a girl who likes to garden, and the huntress and lion-dragon clockwork creature who are chasing them. there are all kinds of weird twists--they tear through the pages of the book into another world, people turn into seeds, magic is passed from one person to another, it's all very surreal and delightful.
age rec: this is another one that i think is mostly for grownups, but definitely could appeal to kids who like off-kilter and strange stories. maybe age 7 upwards, as a read-aloud for the younger end, because the writing is pretty complex.
a bit i really liked: the beauty of this prose!!!!!! im in awe of this translator

Say It by Diego Estebo
i know the aim of picturebooks with messages is to get the message across to young children, but i love a book that just states the message simply, with cute art, and doesn't smack you over the head or get too twee about it. this one is right in that sweet spot for me! really clear emotional language, fun to look at, and it does what it says on the tin: encourages the reader to tell someone the feeling they are holding on to, regardless of what the feeling is. i was a secret-keeper as a kid, and i'm still terrible at telling the people who care about me how i'm feeling if it's anything other than "good," so this book really speaks to me.
also, the art is so great! vibrant and messy and delightful, and using all the little tricks of the trade to get the desired tone for every spread. i wish i was back in grad school so we could talk about this one in picturebook class (still think about you every time i type picturebook as one word, Susan. i'm sorry i still use "cute" all the time.)
age rec: around 2-5 for this one! it's a good message to give kids early, but charming enough to extend into early school age imo.
a bit i really liked: i feel u kiddo

Five Ways To Improve Your Home When You Have Arthritis
In 2023, there are more senior people than at any other time in history. This is great, as it allows for better intergenerational relationships in families, but for older people, it can create challenges when it comes to staying in their homes.
Indeed, as someone ages, the chances of ailments like arthritis developing go up, and so many people opt to adapt their current homes rather than move. What are some of the best ways to do this? Read on to find out!
 New Mattress
Sleep is extremely important, especially when you have arthritis, so one of the first ways that you can improve your home is to upgrade the mattress in your bedroom. You may think that a memory foam mattress may be the best choice here, but for many people who have arthritis, a firmer mattress, like the ones found at reinforcedbeds.co.uk is the best option.
 Handrails
Handrails are a boon for many people with arthritis, as they allow them to stand up with ease and without discomfort. Of course, most people associate handrails with being placed in a bathroom, but you can have them fitted in every room in the house. Just make sure that if they’re fitted in the living space, the dining area, or the kitchen, that they’re firmly screwed into place.
 Lighting
When you need to get up at four a.m. to go to the toilet, the last thing you want is to fall over in the dark. In this circumstance, many people do use the flashlight on their phone to navigate, but in the event that you don’t have your phone, to prevent falls, you can install lighting on the outside of your room.
In many cases, this is motion detection lighting, which is placed on the stairs, so when you move about on the landing, the lights will come on.
 Non-Slip Flooring
A wet floor is going to cause most people to slip if they’re in a rush. If someone in your home has arthritis, or you have it, then you may not be aware of the shuffling motion that can come from this condition. This motion can help you to get around, but it also increases the chance of you falling over.
So, in the kitchen, the hallway, and the bathroom, make sure there’s non-slip flooring installed. This flooring often acts like lino and can be very visually appealing while also being safe. Great!
 Bathroom Upgrade
When a person is older and may be suffering from arthritis, there are two places in the home where they’re more likely to have an accident. The first is the stairs (a health hazard for most people), and the second area is the bathroom.
Bathrooms are quite dangerous places for people who have severe arthritis, as you often have to step over the rim of the bathtub to get into it, the floors are slippery, and the toilets are low.
All of this increases the chance of a fall, meaning that in order to improve your home when you or another member of your household has arthritis, you should start with the bathroom. Install grab rails around the toilet, have a raised toilet seat fitted, change out that bathtub for a walk-in shower, and, as mentioned earlier, make sure the flooring is non-slip.

Why Men Are Seeking Consciousness and Spirituality
I was amped up for whether Goodman felt that her work assisted with diminishing the issues related with what has come to be known as "destructive manliness", and whether there had been a move in men searching for help since the progression got moving. "I think a great many people need to hold space for one another," she told me, "as partners and as partners."
With extra painstakingly pre-arranged men, Goodman felt that there was once in a while an "imbalance", a piece of intergenerational injury, probably passed down from their yet more damaging begetters. I ought to have felt that possible the most pernicious manliness to be found would be in the get-together room and, in actuality, Grounded Life offers social events that are explicitly revolved around unstable precursors in disturbing occupations.
I couldn't battle the compulsion to consider whether we really stayed aware of that a piece of these supervisors should be de-pushed and quieted down. Considering everything, a lot of what their affiliations genuinely do would be viewed as strongly hazardous by individuals who follow the spiritual way that lies behind a basic number of these practices. "Of course," Goodman told me, "I ought to attempt to comprehend who I'm bantering with, I'm excited about the individual… and I would rather not help anything underhanded."
Perhaps in this manner, yet she appeared, apparently, to be puzzled when I saw whether she had whenever examined doing a typical measure of effort with her clients or something like that, and well really kept on taking a gander at working in Ubud, the social point of convergence of Bali, with "separated Presidents who have made an appearance at the top and not felt that it is satisfying". This scarcely had every one of the reserves of being that spiritual to me - more on the Goopy side of things.
"The sages are correct: the material world is a trickery and its fortunes generally superfluously transient. That would mean you not like to live as a pastor, yet that is one way out of it. It simply recommends you can never cover your spiritual hankering through material means."
Somebody who could probably feel the same way about elective drugs being clutched by the magnates is Russell Brand. As of late, the wild-haired blockhead and entertainer has facilitated his concentration toward charitable exhibits. Regardless, it was regulative issues, with his book Upset and his YouTube series zeroed in on friendly balance. Then, in 2017, he scattered Recuperation: Independence from Our Addictions, which desires to apply the snippets of data he acquired from rehearsing the 12 periods of the alleged dark affiliations (AA, Tranquilizers Perplexing, and so forth) to the issues everybody faces in our contemporary consumerist world.
As shown by Brand, "The sages are correct: the material world is a cunning and its fortunes generally superfluously transient. That would mean you not like to live as a priest, yet that is one way out of it. It basically proposes you can never drench your spiritual desire through material means." Check out acim online course.
I felt that he is through the particularly material (if besides, in light of everything, notwithstanding, still enchanted) system for a basic distance call. The competitor pro had dropped into an intervention studio at a retreat outside Monterey. As we talked, Brand forestalled each time a woodpecker went by, and I couldn't battle the compulsion to think, roughly, that I'd be on a very basic level more chilled expecting I was in some western Californian Eden, as opposed to the limbo of south London. With everything considered, I considered, is this new heading comparably another flight for Brand? "I trust it to be a progress," the normal Essex tones cajoled through the ether. "Once more everything without a doubt twirls around partner and aiding individuals, not really getting brought into struggle." Brand has been broadly open about his own penchant gives all through the long stretch - from remedies to sex and back once more, and. Was the arrangement to detoxify the entire world a part of his having become a dad? With two vivacious young women, anybody could go on a drive to kill every one of the sharp things from the whole universe.
Brand rushed to make sense of me of this. "I expect I really required a piece of this kind of figuring out before my relationship," he said. "I don't figure I might have become a dad without accomplishing that work." For his inspirations, "the work" has contained applying the 12 stages - essentially, a ton of standards and manages empowering discipline and epitomizing Christian ethics - first to his own steamed mind and before long to the more noteworthy world. Visit https://awakening-mind.org/resources/ for more.
"Commercialization is penchant at a complete level," Brand unequivocally broadcasted. "While we're reliably taking a gander at our profiles through virtual redirection, it's an inspiration." You don't really ought to be under Waterloo Development supporting a compartment of Night Train to participate in the new Brand ethos, however especially like the dark joint efforts he follows, he is moreover amped up for a perpetually out spiritual awakening. "It's imperative to what I'm implying," he talked at me, "that we as a whole in all see ourselves as individuals that are defective. It's the essential way we'll get any easing up."

Activities That Enhance the Life of Residents in Senior Housing
Tumblr media
As individuals age and transition into senior housing, daily activities should be tailored to meet their overall well-being and quality of life. One way to achieve this is by engaging residents in stimulating activities that cater to their physical, mental, and emotional needs and abilities. By providing diverse activities, senior housing communities can create an environment that promotes social interaction, personal growth, and a sense of purpose.
One activity that enhances the lives of residents in senior housing is volunteering. Volunteering is a great way for seniors to stay active and engaged while contributing positively to their neighborhood and the general well-being of humanity. Many senior housing communities facilitate partnerships with local organizations, allowing residents to participate in various volunteer opportunities. Volunteering can give seniors a sense of fulfillment and purpose, whether it means helping with fundraisers for special causes, making quilts for homeless shelters, or assisting at a local food bank.
Personalized care is another crucial aspect of enhancing the lives of senior housing residents. Each individual has unique needs and preferences, and tailoring activities to match those requirements can greatly enrich their daily lives. By conducting assessments and having regular conversations with residents and their family members, staff can identify their interests and design personalized activity plans. Whether painting, gardening, or playing a musical instrument, these activities can provide joy and a sense of accomplishment.
Creating spaces crafted for overall wellness is another effective way to enhance the lives of seniors in senior communities. Providing well-designed common areas that promote socialization, relaxation, and mental stimulation can significantly contribute to residents' well-being. Areas for group activities, such as card games or book clubs, can foster social connections and reduce feelings of isolation, while quiet spaces for reading, yoga, or meditation offer moments of tranquility and reflection. By offering a variety of well thought out spaces, senior housing communities can cater to their residents' diverse needs and interests.
Memory care programs are vital for seniors dealing with cognitive challenges, such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease. These programs provide specialized activities and therapies designed to support memory function and cognitive abilities. Memory-enhancing games, reminiscence therapy, and art therapy can all help residents maintain mental acuity, stimulate their memory recall, and promote a sense of identity and self-worth.
Fitness classes tailored to seniors' needs and abilities are essential for maintaining physical health and mobility. Regular exercise contributes to physical well-being, improves mood, increases energy levels, and reduces the risk of certain chronic conditions. Senior housing communities often offer a variety of fitness programs, such as advanced sit-down and stand-up exercises. These classes provide a safe and enjoyable environment for seniors to engage in physical activity and maintain their overall health.
Intergenerational activities can also help foster meaningful connections and purpose. This is possible through collaborative projects with local schools, mentoring initiatives, and engaging intergenerational activities that offer valuable opportunities for shared experiences, mutual learning, and the exchange of wisdom. Such activities are beneficial to both seniors and the young people involved.
Finally, encouraging seniors to explore new hobbies and interests is another way to significantly enhance their quality of life. Retirement offers an opportunity to pursue long-held passions or discover new ones. Senior housing communities can organize workshops, classes, or clubs catering to various interests. From painting and photography to cooking and gardening, seniors can engage in activities that bring them joy and a renewed sense of purpose.

Welcome! Please enjoy your stay.
ETA April 2023: Hi folks, tumblr has been difficult with tagging for me lately--trying to use tags like "my writing" has been affecting my posts' visibility. All my fics are linked below (the "Shouta Saturday" series is at the bottom), but you can also use "alucard x reader" "sebastian michaelis x reader" or "aizawa x reader" tags to search. Thanks for your patience, readership, and support. <3
Do you like Hellsing gifs embellished with random Nietzsche quotes? -> #nietzschecard
Hellsing gifs adorned with random pop lyrics? -> #hellsing hits the pop charts
Me abandoning all pretense of dignity in my quest to fawn over Alucard? -> #alucard simping
Gifs of Sebastian Michaelis from Black Butler attached to various musings about aesthetics? -> #illustrating aesthetics with Sebastian
Anything related to extremely hot tired bondage teacher man Aizawa Shouta? --> #you really are so cool eraserhead
Alas, if you want actual High Effort Content, then you're stuck with my [Character] x Fem Reader fics as described under the cut -> #my writing

Empowering Elderly Women
Tumblr media
As we age, we often find that our bodies and minds no longer function as they once did. This can be especially true for elderly women, who may face additional challenges such as ageism, sexism, and social isolation. However, it is crucial to remember that age should not be a barrier to living a fulfilling life. With the right support and resources, elderly women can continue to thrive and contribute to their communities in meaningful ways. In this article, we will discuss some of the ways that we can empower elderly women and help them lead happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. One of the most important ways to empower elderly women is by providing them with access to healthcare. As we age, our bodies become more vulnerable to illness and disease, and it is essential that we receive regular check-ups and screenings to maintain our health. Unfortunately, many elderly women do not have access to affordable healthcare, which can lead to untreated medical issues and a lower quality of life. By advocating for universal healthcare and supporting programs that provide affordable healthcare to elderly women, we can ensure that they receive the medical attention they need to stay healthy and active. Another crucial aspect of empowering elderly women is promoting social connections and combating isolation. Many elderly women live alone or in nursing homes, where they may not have regular opportunities to interact with others. This can lead to feelings of loneliness and depression, which can have a negative impact on their physical and mental health. By creating community programs that provide opportunities for elderly women to socialize and engage in activities, we can help them build new friendships and stay connected to their communities. This can include everything from book clubs and exercise classes to volunteer opportunities and community events. In addition to healthcare and social connections, it is important to address the economic challenges that many elderly women face. Women are more likely than men to live in poverty in their old age, due to factors such as wage gaps and time out of the workforce to care for children and elderly relatives. This can lead to financial insecurity and a lack of resources to meet basic needs such as housing and healthcare. By supporting policies that address income inequality and provide social safety nets for elderly women, we can help ensure that they have the resources they need to live comfortably and with dignity in their later years.

Finally, it is important to recognize and celebrate the contributions that elderly women have made to their communities and society as a whole. Too often, older adults are marginalized and devalued, as if their experiences and wisdom are no longer relevant or important. By highlighting the stories and accomplishments of elderly women and giving them opportunities to share their knowledge and skills, we can help to break down ageist stereotypes and promote intergenerational understanding and respect. In conclusion, empowering elderly women requires a multi-faceted approach that addresses their healthcare needs, social connections, economic challenges, and contributions to society. By recognizing the unique challenges that elderly women face and providing them with the support and resources they need, we can help them to live fulfilling and meaningful lives in their later years. By working together as a society to empower our elderly population, we can create a more just and equitable world for all. Read the full article
