hello feelings old and new, hello fresh and excitingly unfamiliar pain.
because i can't help feeling bitter, let me show you the pain blanket. i made this when i was disoriented and scared shitless by pain flattening me regularly, sometimes with, sometimes without warning and leaving me lying there hours later like a crumpled piece of paper experiencing what it means to be free of pain for what seemed like the first time. i wish i could describe the sort of unreality after.
for anyone familiar with it: i'm sorry.
please come back.
i made the pain blanket about the one experience that felt real to me. so real i could not escape it, only breathe through it. and you know what? i think i fucking nailed it.
some info and the drawings under the cut for my fellow textile+comic nerds
the black top layer is one screenprinted piece of cloth stitched to the soft fuzzy white underlayer in a grid. still proud of the accuracy of that screenprinting job! i had some convoluted conceptual reason for it but honestly in hindsight i'm pretty sure it came down to the fact that i did not have the time to cut the cloth and sew the separate pieces back together. everyone thought i was mad :) well, i was :)))
Steven furrowed his brows, everything would need time. It always did need time and that’s fine, you can’t just — “Okay.” But he was here to listen, if anything at least he would be an ear to listen if she needed one. He could do that, he definitely could do that as he looked at her with concern on his face.
“Sometimes they catch up to us.” Steven knew even the others had a hard time when it came to things, especially the past and Marc was not the most emotionally stable, so expecting him to be a reasonable voice, that was just asking for more than he thought could be the case.
Wasn’t that just… He didn’t know really. “You don’t have to explain anything if you’r not ready, we can talk about something else.”
never let anyone tell you that trawling through mediocre victorian poetry isn't worth it. we just happened upon an absolute BANGER of a worm poem. go read it or else 🪱🪱🪱
