okay but I need to rant about all of my lore music for a second—
I wish you guys could see how much time I spend before every stream setting up songs. I have to set up the order of all the songs before stream and it’s honestly one of the best ways I get my thoughts in order going into a stream. I gotta think about all the changes of vibes and all the specific conversations I know I want to hit.
I have specific songs for specific people too- either for when I do lore with them or even just talk about them with someone else- the best example of this is Rae and “Infinite Amethyst” I exclusively use that song for Rae or talking about Rae (it’s simply the brothers vibes what can I say) but you won’t hear me playing that song without Rae being a part of it.
And then the other side of it is songs matching vibes. There’s specific songs for /pos or /neg conversations, and songs for panic times or solving science things times. And there’s a lot of songs for Icarus introspection times. I love associating songs with moments- like with Whisper Duo bad times + the little nightmares soundtrack- or Quixis and the wack + the Stanley parable soundtrack-
And the COOLEST THING is when I can use music to set the undertones. (Pavlov style babeyyyy)One of my favorite moments is in the first episode of season 2, when Sherbert “meets” Centross again. The conversation itself is completely harmless, happy, and fun but the music playing in the background? Ominous Bane. In literally 3 notes any of the audience who had watched season 1 recognizes that music as bad vibes and it’s MY FAVORITE THING.
Being able to tell a story and show relationships without even having to say any words is one of the coolest things I’ve been able to do with my audience in my opinion.
….and that’s why I’m a film major lmao

What can cause unilateral anophthalmia, but doesn't simultaneously cause intellectual disability or brain abnormalities?
I gather it's perfectly possible for an anophthalmic person to not have those and that causes aren't necessarily known, but i think i should maybe still figure out the cause because some causes propably have other effects i should be aware of.
Hello!
You're correct that it can exist without a syndrome and/or have a completely unknown cause! It happens a lot.
One of the most common known causes would be SOX2 Anophthalmia Syndrome. However, it usually affects both eyes, sometimes to different degrees. So a person with it could have anophthalmia in their right eye, and microphthalmia in their left one. It can also present with a wide range of other symptoms, but doesn't necessarily have to.
A common facial difference that could cause unilateral anophthalmia specifically is Goldenhar Syndrome. It makes different body parts not fully develop on one side, and it rarely results in anophthalmia because of that. Goldenhar isn't rare by any means but anophthalmia isn't frequently a part of it.
Other than that, causes could be congenital infections like CMV or toxoplasmosis, or rare conditions like Anophthalmia Plus Syndrome.
All of the above have more symptoms than just the lack of eye. I heavily recommend you thoroughly research the condition you pick, as a lot of these are very complex. Also please keep in mind that even if the anophthalmia is unilateral it still often affects the other eye, with glaucoma or microphthalmia for example.
Last thing: I don't like assuming things through asks, but I think it could be great to reflect on why you don't want the character to be intellectually disabled and/or have a neurological condition. If the result of your research was that a lot of people with anophthalmia also happen to be ID and/or have a brain condition, why not include that? A character who represents that would be very cool.
I hope this helps!

This is just going to be incoherent screaming about the CMVs but I tried to organize it at least a little <3
MISERY FELL -
“This town without love to much faith in above”
They believed so much in the gods and then the gods hurt them in so many ways- they had too much faith in them and then they made a deal with Enderian.
“All the stars in the sky just enjoying their time, with a hope for peace.”
Idk I think it’s just neat.
ENEMY -
Fable - “look out for yourself” and I now think that that’s more him watching over Icarus than anything else but that’s just me-
BROTHER -
The parallels in the brother CMV of when Rae reached out to Icarus to help them up, vs when Icarus reached to help Rae.
TURN THE LIGHTS OFF -
“Don’t you like it, I know I do. How about you, what do we know.”
Quixis being on “All good devils masquerade under the light” could have two meanings but I believe it’s them talking about fable.
STARMAN -
The way the first time Icarus is met with Haley’s grave they run, they don’t want to believe it. So they can’t. The next time they find it they stop a moment at the headstone, taking the flowers in their hands and sinking down to sit next to the grave. A moment of remembrance, and a sign of their acceptance. AND IN THE END WITH HALEY WATCHING OVER ICARUS AS THEY WORK, WITH A HAND ON THEIR SHOULDER I-
GOLD -
Quixis being on the “I’m dying to feel again” AND THEN TUNRNING AROUND AND WE SEE THAG THEY ARE PHYSICALLY DECAYING (atleast how I describe it I guess) THEY EYES AND THEIR FINGERS-
Also specifically that it’s gold and then there’s auras and the gold eye and fable isn’t gold anymore and I simply think about it but I don’t have a coherent thought yet-
CANT STAND THE RAIN -
“Love, no such thing as love.” At the beginning DOES MATCH UP TO ICARUS PACING I WAS RIGHT and also “all love letters fade away in the rain”
Then it’s on “All lovers remain”
“around until the rain” is Centross. Which I- they’re best friends you’re honor
It’s always Icarus shown on “No such thing as love” and also I want to point out that in the order they are always last and I think that’s neat.
“No one left for me to straighten up the place for. Nothing left to do, but cry.” They completely believe they are alone, they wrote the book at this point l. The one that just repeated YOU ARE ALONE a few times on the second page. Just no one left for me to straighten up the place for - they don’t even try to say anything about the “Whack” in the prison, I don’t remember how much they even wrote down. I think they had given up on it at that point.
Also it stays until after “no such thing as love” They loved Momboo, they did, and at this point they had been convinced that she didn’t love them anymore. She chose everyone else over them, and Rae was the one that got her involved. Icarus needed people to blame, and Momboo ended up being one of them. Love didn’t exist in their corrupted mind, nobody could love them as they were.
THE ONCE A FAILURE SCENE AHHG/VVVPOS
They don’t believe in their friendship they had with Centross at this point. They know what he thinks of them, yet they still went to him throughout their corruption. Some piece of them still trusted him, and still tried to seek out his approval or validation. This could have just been because he could speak with Enderian, but I’d like to think it was because in their mind he was still once their best friend.
Also the little Icarus scene on “drip drop drive me insane” is one of my favorites. I really couldn’t tell you why.
GAHG THE REAVER SCENE I COULDN’T TELL YOU THE WAY I SCREAMED WHEN I FIRST WATCHED IT-
Centross putting the TNT in the tree at
“No such thing as love” now is so very cool
_-_-_
I love how watching over these and especially the season trailers there were so many lyrics lined up with specific characters that all make sense now I went feral a little bit-
ALSO I CANT FIGURE OUT WHAT SPECIFICALLY I WAS THINKING OF BEFORE AND ITS ANNOYING ME BUT HERE YOU GO-

Here is a list of fan-run, professional and semi-professional virtual conventions for the rest of 2020. This is not a comprehensive list, feel free to drop a link below (Name; URL; dates; type; whether the event is free or charges a fee)

I am also posting a recent essay about  the history of virtual conventions written by Claudia Rebaza with her permission
________________________________________________________
Many fan conventions aren’t being held this year but some are going virtual. Surprise – this isn’t actually new!
by Claudia Rebaza
Pandemic restrictions have meant that many events are moving to some kind of online equivalent, but fan conventions have offered online alternatives for a very long time. What’s more, conventions have only been one type of activity fans can take part in online with other fans.
Although numbers are hard to agree on, there’s little doubt that fan conventions have never been more popular. But while it’s possible to find a fan gathering in most cities (or even on the ocean!), there are still barriers that keep many people from participating. Whether it’s because of high costs, difficult travel schedules, physical disabilities, or social anxiety, many people have found themselves on the outside when it comes to fandom events. However fans have always been inventive, so the virtual convention developed decades ago. These virtual cons might mean:
an entire convention held online
live streaming of a physical gathering
activities taking place online at the same time as other fans were meeting in person
The 2000s Say Hello
Yuri Con began in 2000 not as an in-person gathering, but an online fan community. A few years later it sponsored a three-day anime and manga convention in Newark, NJ. The convention brought together fans of Yuri with panels, an academic lecture series, games, vendors and video programming. This was similar to FemSlash Con, which ran from 2012-2017.
Femslash, which is art, fiction and more involving female/female romantic pairings, was celebrated with panels for different TV shows as well as workshops for the creation of fanworks.
In the UK, VidUKon has been held since 2008. The convention focuses on the making and sharing of a style of fan videos called vidding, and features showings, panels, and workshops. People who can’t attend can still follow along with events through the use of convention memberships, which allow access to real time streaming as well as access to content after the convention ends.
But if an event isn’t online or doesn’t offer access to drop into the in-person event, there’s a third option. For example, the Starsky & Hutch fandom's Share Con began in the 1980s and is now held every other year. Like many conventions it has a mailing list and a Facebook group, but some fans also held a Virtual ShareCon from 2012-2016. The virtual con was a side event that took place at the same time as the physical gathering for people who couldn’t meet up in person. At the virtual con, members met at a community on LiveJournal, with an organizer making posts and people commenting. They watched an episode of the show together, watched fan videos together, played a trivia game, had panel discussions, and had a drawing for prizes. Attendees also contributed to the creation of a virtual goody bag with pictures of Starsky & Hutch items.
Virtual con attendees also used the opportunity to prompt one another to create fan art and fanfiction in what has become a common practice among fans – the challenge or fest.
Challenges and fests
Given that not all convention activities are free, and many a fan is having a particularly hard time economically this year, there are fan events that don’t cost a thing. They do, however, require some time and creativity. A fanworks challenge or fest, is an organized event that prompts participants to create fanworks. These events can take many forms, one of which is the “challenge” where people create fanworks to fit certain criteria, or an “exchange” where people create fanworks to order for one another. The fandom wiki Fanlore lists nearly 800 entries on fests that have been held for a wide variety of fandoms over the decades, with many more out there.
The fest is a typical option for a virtual con, so that fans who are not going to an in-person gathering can celebrate as well. In some cases people sign up ahead of time to create fiction, art, videos or other fanworks to share on an assigned day. In others, people respond randomly to prompts from the fest organizers or other participants in a more game-like activity. But in the case of a virtual con, the fest is important for both keeping people engaged, as well as producing new content that outlasts the few days during which the con is held. That way the benefits can be shared with people who couldn’t attend the virtual con due to its timing.
Sometimes virtual con events are held at the Archive of Our Own which includes a feature for fanwork collections and tools for creating specific types of fests. Some virtual convention contributions that can be found on the site include fanworks for Due South, The Closer, Shadowhunters, Game of Thrones, Highlander, and the K-pop group B.A.P.
The con on your laptop
With large public gatherings prohibited almost everywhere, many fan conventions have been cancelled or postponed, including the mega-popular San Diego Comic Con. But other organizers and fans alike are still trying to keep fan activities going. As a result some events are still being held, only online, and sometimes at no charge.
May saw Balticon 54, WisCONline/WisCON 44, Con Carolinas, and the 2020 Nebula Conference go virtual. July will see more taking place from smaller events such as CON.TXT 2020 (free) on July 24-26, to major cons like CoNZealand (WorldCon 78), host of the Hugo Awards, on July 29-August 2. Just as with the early virtual cons, these events will adapt activities to online space, and not just for panels and vendor rooms. In the past many fans have paid to shake hands with their favorite artists, writers, or actors in quick meet-and-greets, photo or autograph sessions. Some events are shifting these bookings to one-on-one video chats, where each person has a few minutes in which to spend some face time with those celebrities.
What about next year?
Researcher Dr. Naomi Jacobs published an article on virtual conventions in 2018. Discussing the future of such events, she said “I think that as the barriers between online and offline fandom become more fluid, and as technology improves, we might see new ways that conventions become digital spaces as well as physical ones. Conventions are about fans coming together to share experiences, to ‘convene’, and it is no longer the case that this has to involve a face to face meeting.”
Jacobs studied fans’ experiences at Supernatural conventions and found that, while most of them preferred meeting in person, there were various reasons why virtual attendance was important. For some fans who go to many conventions a year, attending them is a part of one’s social activities and a way of staying up to date on happenings in their community. Jacobs said, “Being part of the digital space during a convention seemed to be almost as important as being at the event, particularly because there were so many conventions each year and many people attend several, but very few could go to them all.”
For fans whose favorite part of attending a convention is meeting celebrities, a virtual con might not seem like much of an alternative. But for many fans, the principal draws of a convention might be interacting with other fans, shopping, or sharing information about their fandom interests through meet ups or attending panel discussions, all things that could be done in other ways. There are many conventions whose principal draw is activities rather than celebrity guests – although even celebrity appearances will be going virtual in some cases.
For example, one staple of conventions that has become a central part of many fans’ experience is cosplay. While you’d think that this kind of fanwork would be something missing at a virtual con, being online doesn’t have to be a barrier to sharing one’s costuming skills. A lot of cosplay experience has already gone virtual. For example, in 2015 Nicolle Lamerichs wrote about the rising popularity of cosplay music videos (CMV) which are created and shared after the event. In discussing common factors for the videos, Lamerichs notes that “the videos are usually shot at the fan convention and are also a means of preserving the performances and making them accessible to a wider audience.” The practice has developed to the point that “some CMVs are also fan works in their own right."
Is it for you?
While the virtual con may not replace the experience of an in-person gathering for the majority of fans, it does address the importance of these events for both specific fandoms as well as fans as a whole. When writer/producer Alison Zeidman wrote that comic books changed her life, the examples she gave were of personal experiences surrounding comic books, such as attending a fan convention. "At Wondercon, I was the most relaxed I’ve been in years, but it was also so incredibly creatively stimulating and inspiring. And I realized that how I felt on that exhibition floor is how I want to feel every day of my life: constantly learning, seeking out new experiences and meeting new people — whether or not they’re dressed in a custom-made Captain Marvel uniform.” Whether in-person or online, many fans share that feeling.

For the ship ask: ereri, of course 😎
hehe i been waiting for this one >:)
1.) what made you ship it?
well, i definitely came into snk knowing of ereri and that it was a popular ship. when i first started watching i was like ??? why is this a ship?? but then... the little things, man. levi’s face after eren confesses in the dungeon. eren’s obvious hero worship. levi asking eren if he hated him. the budding trust as eren joins levi’s squad. then, just how the two of them seemed to understand each other so well. levi’s instinct to protect eren. the way they just seemed to fit together like puzzle pieces. by the time i finished the first season, i was in wayyyy too deep to get out lmao
also i started reading a lot of fics/watching cmvs and amvcs halfway through the anime and i said hold on.... this shit be hitting different. their dynamic will always be my favorite thing. a little grumpy sourpuss with a soft spot for the raging ball of hormones and anger? just fuck me up, dude.
2.) what are your favorite things about the ship?
OHH boy. so, so, SO many things. like i couldn’t even possibly write them all down. i’ll just do my best and try to keep it short hbdjsnc.
okay, so. the parallelisms. the way they just seem to be two sides of the same damn coin. isayama was really quite genius in his creation of these characters. i feel like he really knew what he was doing, making them so similar. the way their pasts coincide, their goals in the war (this is shown in the same episode! “i will eradicate all the titans,” levi says it at the beginning and eren says it at the end. to levi. beautiful, gorgeous, poetic cinema 😩) their core beliefs about freedom and choice, the way they view the world.... i could go on.
on the subject of their character, the first thing i fell in love with was how they SEEM so different, but in the end are so similar. while levi may seem like a jaded, apathetic older man, and eren a passionate, fiery new recruit, when you peel back the layers they both share some very core beliefs. they have an intense hatred for titans, are fiercely loyal, and have a deep love and desire for freedom.
they bring out the best in each other. i previously said they fit together like pieces of a puzzle, and this is one of the biggest reasons why. they are undeniable each other’s pillars of strength. levi is always there to provide eren with guidance, reason, and is a very grounding presence for the eren. when no one else seems able to reach eren, levi always manages to bring him back to reality, lend him strength and courage, and give him the tools necessary to fight his own battles. eren trusts levi so much for this specific reason, and leans on him in a very special way that i feel is very unique to their relationship. now, on to levi. eren is undeniably levi’s beacon of hope. for so many years levi has fought on in a seeminly hopeless situation, his eyes on the horizon and never looking back. but in comes eren, in a blaze of rage and passion, and levi finally feels something. hope. hope for freedom, for a life beyond the walls. he sees himself in eren. a boy who sees the world in black and white, with an unwavering determination and force of will, a “monster” (to quote the vn hehe) that can and will never be tamed. while eren possesses such a fiery will, though, levi sees the broken and confused boy underneath. he acknowledges this part of him that so few others see, and communicates with him. they learn from each other, levi learns through his relationship with eren how to better communicate, how to be a better friend, soldier, leader, and man. levi’s world, so long plunged in darkness, finally starts to change. a light begins to illuminate path forward. he sees where he’s going now, thanks to eren. and eren has a better understanding of the world, of himself, and of the relationships he has with his comrades, thanks to levi. he has someone to lean on. ok i have to force myself to stop on this point now but honey, i could go on for DAYS.
okay last one i promise. this one was just honestly my first impression of the ship, and i just loved it so much i had to include it. kind of an old take by now, but whatever. they’re literally the wings of freedom. levi is humanity’s strongest soldier, and eren is humanity’s hope. (again, two sides of the same coin bitch!!!!). when eren first sees levi, its in the haze of battle, the wings of freedom flowing on levi’s back as eren opens his eyes for the first time. when levi first “sees” eren, its in that cold, dark dungeon, his eyes blazing with a fire levi believed had so long been extinguished within himself. levi chooses to become eren’s guardian because of this, and eren accepts levi despite all his quirks and flaws, all because of the trust and understanding that is so integral to their relationship. i believe these two souls were destined to meet, and will continue finding and loving each other in any other future lives they lead.
3.) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
this got mushy and long really fast so i’ll try to wrap it up quickly lol. honestly, i don’t think so? the fandom and ship is so old and has evolved so much over the years that i feel any “hot take” or unpopular opinion i may have is old news by now. uhh, i guess maybe i think levi would be more submissive? i feel like he’d crave that sensation of relinquishing control to that one special person that he KNOWs he would be in good hands with. which is eren lol. also, i feel like levi isn’t as old as people make him out to be. since his age in unconfirmed in the manga, i’ve never seen him as older than 30 when the anime starts out. i think he was around 20 in acwnr, so there isn’t a bigger than 10 year age difference between him and eren. idk i think thats it lol.
thank you so much for the ask! i had a lot of fun rambling on about my two favorite dorks lmao :) i appreciate it. sorry this is so long!

Reviewing Questions:
Lecithin is part of surfactant. If the lecithin:sphingomyelin (L:S) ratio in the amniotic fluid is 2:1 at 35 weeks gestation, then the baby's lungs are mature (i.e., baby is making enough surfactant so that he won't have neonatal hyaline membrane disease). Lecithin is also called "phophatidylcholine." Lecithin and sphingomyelin levels are equivalent until the third trimester, when type II pneumocytes are making surfactant, at which point the [lecithin] increases.
Empyema is a complication on pneumonia where there is a collection of pus in the pleural space. It can be drained with a chest tube placed at the 4th or 5th intercostal space, in the anterior axillary or midaxillary line. The tube goes into the pleural cavity.
As you age, the residual volume increases, forced vital capacity decreases, and total lung capacity stays the same. After age 35, the chest wall becomes less compliant (more rigid). You lose elastic recoil of the lungs as well, so the alveoli don't snap back in passive exhalation as easily as they do when you're younger--thus the compliance of the lungs increases. Residual volume (amount of air that's left in the lungs after maximal expiration; amount of air that can't be exhaled) increases because of the loss of the elastic recoil of the lungs. The reason the TLC is unchanged is because the chest wall is less compliant, so that negates the increased compliance of the lungs. As you age, FEV1 decreases and so does diffusion capacity (DLCO).
In pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) that goes on long enough, the right ventricle wall will become thicker because it's pumping against increased resistance. Pts present with progressive dyspnea, syncope, and chest pain on exertion. There was a pt today who came to the clinic who said she had COPD and needed O2 for that. But she actually just had pulmonary hypertension. These pts will have dyspnea on exertion (and the pt today complained about becoming short of breath when she had to walk a few blocks). PAH happens more in women than in men. PAH, specifically is due to too much endothelin in the pulmonary blood vessels. But pulmonary hypertension can be due to left heart failure (which causes right heart failure) or chronic lung disease. So make that distinction between pulmonary hypertension (secondary to heart failure for example) and pulmonary arterial hypertension, which is common in women ages 20 to 40 and is due to a primary problem in the pulmonary vasculature. In PAH, there is hyperplasia of the tunica intima, hypertrophy of the tunica media, and capillary tuft formation. If the pulmonary HTN goes on long enough, the RV gets big and beefy trying to pump harder against the increased resistance in the pulmonary vasculature. This is right heart failure (cor pulmonale). These pts die from cor pulmonale with respiratory failure.
The conjugate pneumonia vaccine (PCV13) leads to T cell mediated humoral immunity (memory cells), which is better than the unconjugated (PPSV23) vaccine, which leads to a non-T cell mediated humoral immunity (no memory). Basically, the PPSV23 has only the strep pneumo capsule polysaccharide and APCs can't present polysaccharides to T cells, so this vaccine is not effective in infants. The PCV13 vaccine has the strep pneumo capsule polysaccharide and diphtheria toxin. So I guess, the protein from the diphtheria toxin is attached to the strep pneumo polysaccharide capsule. APCs can present proteins to T cells, so they present the diptheria protein, which is attached to the strep pneumo capsule polysaccharide, to T cells, and therefore, you get T cell-mediated B cell activation, which leads to antibodies with better affinity against S. pneumo and memory antibodies.
Hypersensitivity pneumonitis = dyspnea on exertion, dry cough, fever, weight loss, fatigue, fine crackles on lung auscultation; biopsy shows lymphocytes, noncaseating granulomas, fibrosis of alveolar septa. On CXR, you see interstitial fibrosis (reticular interstitial opacities). If you do PFTs, there will be a restrictive pattern; bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) shows lymphocytes. If it's acute, just stop exposure to the antigen. If it's chronic, then the fibrosis is usually not reversible. Ok, so this is what the fellows are talking about when they say "HP!"🤦🏽‍♀️
When you have interstitial fibrosis in the lungs, the radial traction on the airways increases, so you get higher expiratory flow rates than normal because the airways are pulled open. This would be seen in someone with chronic HP, for example. If you have destruction of alveoli (like in emphysema), the radial traction on the airways decreases, so you get decreased expiratory flow rates because the airways are collapsing.
At functional residual capacity (FRC), the force of the chest wall causing expansion is balanced by the elastic recoil force of the lungs causing collapse. In emphysema, alveoli are destroyed, so you lose some of the elastic recoil that causes the lungs to collapse. Pts with emphysema usually also have chronic bronchitis, which causes mucus and inflammation in the bronchi, leading to more difficulty getting air out. So in COPD, both loss of alveoli and chronic bronchitis lead to a loss of elastic recoil. Therefore, you end up with more chest wall expansion until the chest wall's expanding force is counterbalanced by the recoil force of the lungs; so a new equilibrium between the lung recoil and chest wall expansion occurs at a higher lung volume. So in COPD, FRC is higher. I guess FRC is just the lung volume at which the chest wall forces and the lung elastic recoil forces cancel each other out.
Deoxygenated blood from the bronchial circulation and thebesian veins (small cardiac veins) mixes with oxygenated blood from the pulmonary veins, which is why the blood in the left atrium has a lower PO2 than the blood in the pulmonary capillaries. The bronchial arteries and pulmonary artery supply the lungs; they make up the dual blood supply to the lungs. Bronchial veins send blood via the azygos and hemi-azygos veins to the right heart; the rest of the blood from the bronchial veins goes to the left heart via the pulmonary veins. So deoxygenated blood from the bronchial veins goes into the oxygenated blood in the pulmonary veins.
In septic shock, you give isotonic crystalloid (0.9% saline = normal saline; or lactated ringer solution) because these solutions stay in the extracellular space.
Anatomic dead space is the parts of the airway that don't participate in gas exchange (the conducting zones). Alveolar dead space are the alveoli that are ventilated, but not perfused, ergo they don't participate in gas exchange, so they're dead space. Physiologic dead space = anatomic dead space + alveolar dead space.
Minute ventilation = amount of air that enters the respiratory pathway per minute = tidal volume x respiratory rate. Alveolar ventilation = amount of air that gets to the alveoli and respiratory bronchioles (which do gas exchange) per minute = (tidal volume x respiratory rate) - dead space.
Physiologic dead space = tidal volume x [(PaCO2 - PECO2)/PaCO2], where PECO2 is expiratory CO2.
Coccidioides immitis shows spherules with endospores.
If you suspect someone has asthma, but PFTs are normal, you can do the bronchoprovocation test (methacholine challenge)--you give methacholine and then do spirometry. You keep increasing the dose of methacholine and doing spirometry again. If the pt has asthma, you will see decreased FEV1 when you give lower doses of methacholine than you need to give to elicit the same response in non-asthmatics. Asthmatics are hyperresponsive to methacoline. Pretty sure when we learned about this, we learned that this test is no longer done. Anyway, methacholine is an ACh agonist, acting on muscarinic receptors to cause bronchoconstriction. So contrast that with someone who does show an obstructive pattern on PFTs--in that pt, you give albuterol and if their FEV1 improves, you can diagnose asthma. So if they have the obstructive pattern already, you can give a bronchodilator (albuterol) and if they improve, then it's asthma. If they don't improve, it could be COPD or bronchiolitis. If the pt has normal PFTs but you still think he has asthma, you do the methacholine challenge.
Cystic fibrosis pts have increased risk of spontaneous pneumothorax. PTX-> loss of negative intrapleural pressure. A hole in the pleura means air goes from inside the lung (high pressure) to the pleural space (which has a pressure of -5 cm of H2O). But once that happens, of course, the pressure equalizes and then the pleural space pressure is no longer negative. If you have a one way valve that lets air into the pleural space, but not out of it, then the pressure can build up in the pleural space to the point that it starts compressing on the IVC, which is a tension PTX.
CMV = enveloped, double-stranded DNA virus; can cause pneumonitis in immunosuppressed pts. Histo shows large cells with owl's eye intranuclear inclusions. Valganciclovir can prophylax against CMV in lung transplant pts.
Actinomyces is a gram positive anaerobic bacterium; makes yellow sulfur granules; can cause aspiration PNA.
Asbestos-> asbestosis = interstitial fibrosis; pleural plaques; ferruginous bodies
Allergic Bronchopulmonary Apergillosis (ABPA) = Asthma, Bronchiectasis, Positive Aspergillus skin test/IgE; pts may also have hx of CF; imaging shows infiltrates that recur and resolve; they have eosinophilia and high IgE. Immunocompromised pts (asthmatics on ICS) are susceptible to ABPA. They have serum IgE and IgG against aspergillus.

PRENATAL
Tumblr media
Prenatal development, this follows 2 developmental patterns are cephalocaudal pattern and proximidistal pattern. Cephalocaudal pattern growth that proceeds from the head downward. While Proximidistal pattern growth that proceeds from the body outward. The fetus is responsive to stimuli and appears to learn in the womb. Prenatal temperamental differences persist into infancy and childhood, and some aspects of the prenatal sensory environment maybe important to future development. There are risks associated with teratogenic material diseases these include rubella, AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhoea, genital herpes, and CMV. If a mother has poor nutrition, her fetus faces increased risks of stillbirth, low birth weight, and death during the first year of life.
When I realized prenatal, I really don’t know if this past is real that I remember or not because before I come into this world I started seeing pink path flowing through the clouds of what I see it depicts that makes me travel at that time I was like watching from what just I saw passes me by. I don’t know if these are real or that was inside my head but from what i see that looks like stars maybe a nebula of some kind galaxies. When I was born I thought it was like a space shuttle which I was riding but that’s it that is how I end up either I imagine that or it was like I saw how I really travel from that part and even so I choose to forget it.
INFANCY
Tumblr media
In infancy, many were able to say first words or other making sounds like cooing and anything that the baby emotion has express. The humans are born with adaptive reflexes that help them survive. Automatically sucking any object that enters the mouth, disappear in infancy or childhood. Primitive reflexes controlled by the less sophisticated parts of the brain. Sensorimotor stage, infants use information from their senses and motor actions to learn about the world. Object Permanence understanding that objects continue to exist when they can’t be seen. The infant has attachment things to the parents to identify his or her parents.
I didn’t remember what I do but I experience how difficult I was since my first guardian abused me then my parents forced me to go in Tagum were my grandparents can take care of me while my parents can do their work on their own. I was lucky and happy which leads to me being naughty and I was a difficult child to handle. From that past I was never recognized who are my parents was because all I know my parents are my grandparents thought they were real to me. And from that day I was quiet and suddenly would be different than any other day.
 EARLY CHILDHOOD
Tumblr media
The measuring intelligence an assumption in studying differences in intelligence is that these differences can be measured. The first tests led by Alfred Binet and Theodore Simon to identify children who might have difficulty in school. This intelligence was later called Intelligence Quotient (IQ). The intelligence of child affects the influences in the family it depends how they raised their child. Parenting styles differ in temperament themselves, so, just like their children; they vary in how they respond to situations. The four types of parenting styles are permissive parenting style, authoritarian parenting type, authoritative parenting type, and uninvolved parenting style.
When I was elementary student I was a running around person until they set new rules for me. My parents were became permissive or strict in general term, they intended to bring me after class hours in the tutorial centre to guide me through my topics and some of that I became a nuisance to others who were studying there too I suppose that I never learn anything that days. It may be different from today because I realized that studying is important and I learn through their reasons why my parents are so very strict to me. As of today I realize something that even when in difficult struggle, can be trying harder again to accomplish once goal.
      MIDDLE CHILDHOOD
Tumblr media
Physical and cognitive changes the way for being a middle childhood. Many children participate in such clubs like sports, arts, and etc. This has intellectual interest about their health, fitness, and academic performances were concerned. The cognitive changes which term for their language on how they initialize their potential to make it in time. Achievement tests are designed to assess specific information learned in school. The relationships of parents and also friends are important to keep the bonds together and strong no matter the problems are and their child and friends help to sustain their courage to do so in the end.
Middle child hood for me is about the pressure and sometimes I ignore the mistakes I did but I never well go around. I focus more on ignoring stuff playing a gadget my prioritize time that I did than studying. I never concern about my health and fitness, I always drink soda and eating junk foods. I had friends before, friends that see u one time then ignore me instantly, only cares when I am bullied by my classmate then they come and when the problem solves they’re gone. Parents can courage to their child something more and something wonderful to be great.
 ADOLESCENCE
Tumblr media
Adolescence is the transitional period between childhood and adulthood. They’re puberty changes as primary and secondary sex characteristics, which their hormone as menarche which is the beginning of menstrual cycles. Adolescent sexuality can be so tempting and there are risks factor which led to sexual situation. Teens nowadays engaged in sexual activities were often seeing on television shows like the Pretty Little Liars. An adolescent learns and changes their gender identity as they confirm themselves gay, lesbians, and bisexuals. Most of the teens engaged in drugs, alcohol, and tobacco which of them bring out the curiosity of teenagers are sensation seeking.
As I experience there are things which is evolving around me my sexual characteristics that I don’t understand which leads me to confusion. After that when I saw some television shows that romantic love scene how to proper court someone and make fell in love. Creating sexual desires in their dream longing for someone to be loved and that is how is. I tried to be gay for a contest which I had someone make up for me and quite a lot of fun to give laughter for everyone in just a nick of a time. I am into alcohol but not a strong one; I usually drink if there is an occasion going on with my parent’s permission.
EARLY ADULTHOOD
Tumblr media
Primary aging occurs most of them develop gray hair, wrinkles, and changes in visual acuity. While Secondary aging is the product of environmental influences, health habits, or disease, and it is neither inevitable nor experienced by all adults. Health habits shows the detection of illness can see what kind of illness is and can determine can be prevent it or not. Sexual Transmitted Disease which the humans never use contraceptives to protect from it and they were getting from it through sexual intercourse. Most intimate partners’ abuses which due to most reasons are jealousy of having their partners seeing someone. Career development focused on adapting to the workplace, managing career transitions, and pursuing personal goals through employment.
I may develop gray hair but I always thought of something that an illness which of the disease may try to kill me in the only way to die but I always thought the diabetes is the reason why I die. I will never know which would be so my fate will be decided which one of the diseases. I had always doubt about my lifestyle and I am getting obese more than ever. Career development for me is different, imagine where would I be sitting and seeing I help people. I really dream about not only becoming a RPm but maybe becoming an air force pilot someday.
     MIDDLE ADULTHOOD
Tumblr media
Most of men and women having osteoporosis resulting in reduced bone mass and more brittle and porous bones. Vision and hearing can be sudden changes for adulthood which began to decrease the retina and person’s overall sensitivity to light waves. Health and Wellness can be so devastating when it comes to illnesses which started by imbalance diet or any hobbies like smoking that lead to lung cancer. Memory function drawing conclusions about memory rarely include middle-aged people. They were being generosity is their care, give what they can give for their grandkids. They struggle long enough to survive from their illness.
I really imagine that what could be waiting for me if I suffer an illness which is different from early adulthood of mine. I should be hardly and slowing to move my body as I was beginning to had crack bones of mine with its sound. As I imagine a lot what would be the life of me in 60 years age of me look like exactly. I can be grown old, grumpy, and sad living in home for the aged or even live with grandkids of my own. It is really hard that thinking way more about it is just never ever will happen if I just don’t let it.
 LATE ADULTHOOD
Tumblr media
Life expectancy and longevity improvements in these variables among the elderly themselves over the past several decades are responsible for changes in the expected lifespans of adults in their 60s and beyond. General slowing the biggest single behavioural effect of age-related physical changes is a general slowing down. Wisdom and creativity elders might have some advantages over the young because of their accumulation of knowledge and skills. Wisdom reflects understanding of “universal truths” or basic laws or patterns. Life satisfaction or a sense of well-being is also an important component of successful aging. Religious beliefs are the component of religious coping involves people’s beliefs and attitudes.
Life can be full of surprises when realize about something that can be precious to our love ones and we expands our life expectancy to experience more and thank God that we exist long lives today and some of old of us can be slow to stimuli. We do believe our own will to find out how our experiences can show to others how we make it and offer as a good advice to others that may help to guide others away from dangerous paths they never cross. Life of our existence is constant and I would say that it is okay for me to live this life, I owe it to the end of my last breathe for I shall die happy person. Religious gives you the morality and the spirituality which gives the inner peace of our mind and channels our prayer to our God.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ELD:
THE FINAL ELECTRONIC LOGGING DEVICE (ELD) MANDATE DEADLINE SET BY THE FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (FMCSA) IS APPROACHING ON DECEMBER 16, 2019.
The ELD final rule is a part of MAP-21, which went into effect in 2017. The rule was passed in a bid to ensure the safety of drivers by creating a safe environment and making it easier to track and manage their duty records.
WHAT DOES ELD STAND FOR?
ELD stands for Electronic Logging Device (ELD). The Electronic Logging Device (ELD) is a portable device, which records the - Hours of Services (HOS) – of commercial driving automatically.
WHAT IS THE ELD RULE?
ELD mandate makes it mandatory for fleet owners to equip their vehicles with an ELD to record the duty hours, which aims to cut down on driver fatigue to reduce road accidents. The FMCSA has certain rules and regulations for the Hours of Service (HOS) that limits the number of hours a driver can drive in a single day. ELD rule makes it mandatory for fleet owners to equip their vehicles with an electronic logging device to record the duty hours, which aims to cut down on driver fatigue to reduce road accidents
WHY THE ELD RULE IS IMPORTANT?
ELD helps drivers to follow the legal limit and help in analysing the vehicle, driving pattern and track the location of the vehicle and drivers and help in keeping the drivers safe. It is believed that driver fatigue is one of the major reasons for road accidents. As per the mandate, most of the commercial motor vehicles need to have an ELD to keep track of the duty hours and analyses the driving pattern of the drivers. FMCSA strongly believes that this will help in creating a safe environment for drivers and it will reduce their load.
WHAT IS THE ELD RULE TIMELINE?
The final ELD rule was first published on December 16, 2015, by FMCSA and all vehicles must be ELD compliant by December 16, 2019. It was executed in two phases – the first phase was also known as soft enforcement or grace period. FMCSA had given two years’ time for the fleet owners and drivers to comply with the new ELD rule.
HOW MUCH DOES AN ELD COST?
As per the FMCSA estimate, the cost of an ELD ranges between $165 to $832 per year. However, it varies from vendor to vendor. As of now, any normal ELD will cost between $500 to $850 and these devices do not come with in-built GPS tracking unit. It will cost another $250 for additional equipment. Also, most of these vendors offer contract which is likely to bind you for a few years.
TXT ELD comes with a monthly subscription starting from $19 to $45. The hardware costs $399 with no additional equipment charge. The device has in-built GPS tracking unit along with Geofencing feature. This will help you to locate your fleet at any given point in time and location. Geofencing feature is useful for Backoffice operation. It will help you in understanding the dispatch time and the gaps which requires attention.
Backoffice officials can fence a certain boundary area for the fleets which requires attention. As soon as the fleet enters the boundary, the Backoffice will receive a notification and can result in early or timely dispatch.
If you register with TXT ELD it is going to save you at least 50% of the cost, you will spend for the same device to any other vendor. TXT ELD comes with four different and customized monthly subscription plans specifically developed keeping the requirement of your fleet in mind. If you own 10 or more vehicles in your fleet, there is no upfront cost for our premium subscription plan costing $40 per month.
CAN I UNPLUG AN ELD?
An ELD is simple to plug and unplug. ELD is directly connected with the engine vehicle control module unit and can be undocked whenever required. When it is unplugged, it does not record any data. TXT ELD comes with a 9-meter-long connector which helps the driver to undock the device and show it the enforcement officers on either side of the truck. This helps you in saving time during inspection.
HOW TO INSTALL AN ELD?
https://youtu.be/MPVyw4-Bb14
CAN TRUCK DRIVERS STILL USE PAPER LOGS?
Every commercial truck driver and fleet owners must comply with the use of ELD with the deadline of December 16, 2019. Only in case of any malfunctions, drivers can use paper logs for a maximum of 8 days. Use of ELD was made mandatory as driving for long hours causes driver fatigue, which results in dangerous road accidents. In a bid to curb the number of road accidents caused by trucks, ELD was made a mandate. The device eliminates the use of paper logs and manual intervention of drivers.
Earlier, the drivers used to spend a lot of time filling out the HOS logbook due to this the drivers were forced to drive for long hours to cope with their targets. ELD also helps the fleet owners and drivers in improving their productivity, maintaining their record and warning them ahead of any system malfunction.
WHO ALL ARE EXEMPTED FROM USE OF ELD?
As per the FMCSA, three groups are exempted from using ELDs.
Drivers who use paper logs for 8 days during a 30-day period
Driveaway-towaway drivers
Drivers of vehicles manufactured before 2000
The FMCSA has also extended the deadline for certain companies:
The United Parcel Service, October 2022
Motion Picture Association of America, January 2023
Truck Renting and Leasing Association, October 2022
The FMCSA strongly believes that the ELD mandate will avoid thousands of road accidents annually and end up saving billions of dollars as paperwork expenses.
WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF SERVICE (HOS) RULES?
Hours of Service (HOS) rules regulate driving hours for drivers operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). According to the estimate, a total of $705 is saved annually as paperwork savings. This is just an estimate. ELDs are expected to reduce the time required to maintain log by 4.5 minutes per HOS or around 20 hours annually as per FMCSA.
CAN I DRIVE HOME ON PERSONAL CONVEYANCE?
As per ELD rule, the personal conveyance is used to commute to and from home. However, if the driver is leaving from home to the pickup location directly then it would be considered as on-duty and not under personal conveyance. In the United States, there is no set limit on distance for the status on ELD to change from personal conveyance to driving. But in Canada, the ELD rule states that after 75km the status on ELD will automatically change from personal conveyance to driving.
WHAT IS THE 14-HOUR DOT RULE?
As per the DOT rule, any truck driver should drive 11 out of 14 hours with 10 consecutive hours recorded as off-duty.
HOW LONG DO WE NEED TO KEEP DRIVER LOGS?
Truck drivers are supposed to keep logs and supporting documents for six months.
WHAT ALL IS INCLUDED UNDER THE DRIVER’S DAILY LOG?
The drivers must keep track of their time through a daily log. It must include total miles, truck, tractor or trailer number, name of the carrier, main office address, driver’s signature, name of co-driver, time base to be used, remarks, total hours, shipping document number(s) or name of shipper and commodity.
WHAT ARE THE BEST ELD DEVICES?
TXT ELD is one of the best ELD devices available in the market at a reasonable price and excellent features starting from $19 as a monthly subscription. To know more kindly,
WHAT IS CANADIAN ELD RULE?
From reducing administrative costs to preventing errors in logbooks to reducing driver’s fatigue to creating a safer environment to ensuring good cross-border relations. The ELD mandate is the next big thing for the fleet industry. The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) released the final rule outlining the Canadian ELD requirements on June 13, 2019. The fleet industry is expected to adhere to the deadline of June 12, 2021. While the Canadian ELD mandate is developed to create a safer environment for drivers but the major reason is also to improve cross border trade with the United States. Maybe one of the reasons why the Canadian ELD mandate is developed on similar lines to the US ELD mandate.
WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS OF ELD MANDATE VIOLATIONS?
During the soft enforcement period, ELD violations did not affect CSA scores. But the full enforcement period of the FMCSA’s ELD mandate not only affects overall CSA score, can end the driver’s service period or put your entire fleet into jeopardy.
As per FMCSA guidelines, “a failure to provide supporting documents in the driver’s possession upon request” carries the most violation points. It’s 7 out of 10. Failing to maintain an ELD user manual can attract 1 violation point. No record of duty status can attract 5 violation points. ELD display screen cannot be viewed outside of the vehicle can attract 5 violation points. Bad CSA score may attract more roadside inspections and affects business opportunities for your fleet.
If a non-exempt driver does not have a working ELD the authorities can put him/her out-of-service for at least 10 hours. If the driver is still using paper logs, they won’t be allowed to reach their destination and only deliver the goods after their 10 hours of the out-of-service period is over. If the driver is caught without ELD repeatedly, it can put both the driver and fleet into jeopardy and may attract further enforcement actions.
As per the estimate, when a driver is out-of-service each day he/she loses around $260 or more. Moreover, if the driver gets an out-of-service order the authorities are likely to tow away the vehicle, which will again cost up to $350. As per the FMCSA mandate, fines for ELD violations is between $1,000-$10,000. As per the North American Transportation Association, if no record of duty status is found then it can attract fines up to $2,867.
WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR REST BREAKS?
The driver must take a minimum of 30-minute break or sleeper-berth period after every eight hours of their drive time. Any 30 minutes off-duty time including meals, counts as a break and the breaks also comes under the 14-hour driving window.
WHAT IS THE ADVERSE DRIVING CONDITIONS EXCEPTION?
It refers to unexpected driving delays due to uncontrollable circumstances, such as bad weather, lane closures etc. Common driving conditions, such as rush-hour traffic or construction projects, are not covered under any exception. Under the exception rule, one can drive for an extra two hours, increasing 11-hour driving limit to 13 hours, based on how far one can have driven in normal conditions. However, the extended driving hours should be completed within the 14-hour driving window.
DOES EVERY DRIVER, INCLUDING OCCASIONAL DRIVERS, MUST COMPLY WITH THE HOS REGULATIONS?
Any driver who is operating a “commercial motor vehicle” defined under section 390.5 of the federal regulations must also complete a logbook page for any day. This includes driving commercial motor vehicle for the previous seven days unless it comes under an exception on some of those days.
WHAT SHOULD THE DRIVER DO, IF AN ELD STOPS WORKING FOR SOME REASON?
The driver of the vehicle must: A) note the failure of the device. B) recreate driver’s log for the current day as well as the previous seven days, leaving for days which driver already has the records. C) continue to prepare a handwritten log until the ELD is working again. D) notify the carrier within 24 hours of the ELD’s failure.
WHEN DOES AN ELD SWITCH TO DRIVING MODE?
If a vehicle is moving at more than 5 miles per hour, the ELD will automatically switch to driving mode.
WHAT DOES AN ELD RECORD AUTOMATICALLY?
An ELD records data for driving status – on-duty or off-duty. It creates an automated log for hours of service (HOS).
WHAT IS IFTA?
The international fuel tax agreement (IFTA) is an arrangement among US states and Canadian provinces on taxes paid on motor fuels. Ifta allows commercial motor carriers to register in one state and have these tax assessments paid out to all participating areas according to their fair share.
WHO MUST REGISTER FOR IFTA?
The commercial carriers who operate an IFTA-qualified motor vehicle in commerce must participate in IFTA. A qualified motor vehicle is one used, designed or maintained to transport property or persons that is: three or more axles regardless of weight, or two axles with a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 pounds; or used in combination with a total gross vehicle weight over 26,000 pounds.
WHICH STATES DO I REGISTER FOR IFTA?
You only need to register with one state — your base jurisdiction. Under IFTA, a motor carrier’s base jurisdiction is the state or province: where its qualified motor vehicles are registered, where it maintains operational control and operational records of its eligible vehicles, and that qualified motor vehicles travels in.
WHAT MUST BE INCLUDED IN AN IFTA TRIP REPORT?
IFTA trip reports must include the following: date of trip (start and end), trip origin and destination, routes of travel, beginning and ending odometer reading, total trip distance, distance by jurisdiction, vehicle identification number, vehicle fleet number, registrant’s name.

50 Most Influential OT Research Articles
We become occupational therapists so we can provide holistic care to our clients.
We want to flex our creative muscles and exercise our compassion. We want to work alongside patients, sharing their joy and their pain—serving as guides as they reclaim their lives.
But for all the “softer” reasons that draw us to the profession, we OTs also have a strong analytical side.
We choose our career, on some level, for love of the science that holds it all together.
I say this because I want you to dive into this article with true love for OT in your heart. With a deep commitment to why we fell in love with our profession in the first place, and why it is vital that we stay current with research, even when we feel pulled in 10 different directions in a single day.
But let me step back for a moment, and let you know why I’m writing this article :-)
Why keeping up with medical developments is the biggest challenge of our OT generation
It’s no secret that medical professionals are having a tough time these days.
We shuttle from patient to patient, focused more on billable units and clunky EMRs than actual therapy.
And when we feel this way for too long, our thirst for new knowledge dies down.
We stop thinking about research as a method to further improve our patients’ lives, and instead consider it just another task to be completed. And, sadly, it’s a task that keeps getting pushed to the side as we focus on slogging through our days.
We OTs are affected each day by decreasing reimbursement and stagnating salaries—not to mention increased productivity expectations—and there’s no secret about it.
At least we’re talking about it, which is great.
However, the focus on burnout, productivity, and EMR headaches has masked an even more massive shift––and this might be the most troubling one at all. In fact, I will go so far as to say this will be the true challenge of our generation of occupational therapists:
We are not keeping up with medical advancements.
Recent years have shown an exponential growth of medical knowledge and discoveries—but we’re doing a TERRIBLE job of keeping up with these advances.
Here’s what I mean.
Consider this excerpt from a medical journal, where the authors are discussing the rapid advancement of medical knowledge (discoveries, advancements, research, etc.):
It is estimated that the doubling time of medical knowledge in 1950 was 50 years; in 1980, 7 years; and in 2010, 3.5 years. In 2020 it is projected to be 0.2 years—just 73 days. Students who began medical school in the autumn of 2010 will experience approximately three doublings in knowledge by the time they complete the minimum length of training (7 years) needed to practice medicine. Students who graduate in 2020 will experience four doublings in knowledge. What was learned in the first 3 years of medical school will be just 6% of what is known at the end of the decade from 2010 to 2020.
That’s a lot of numbers, and I had to read it about ten times to really absorb what it meant, and how profound its implications are. The gist is that we’re making insanely huge medical advancements and discoveries, but the info just isn’t being delivered to the actual clinicians for integration into our practice.
To quote the author:
“Knowledge is expanding faster than our ability to assimilate and apply it effectively; and this is as true in education and patient care as it is in research.”
Yes, it’s scary, but we OTs are hardly alone; this phenomenon is a problem throughout the medical field.
But, that does not let us as OTs off the hook.
I created this platform in 2012 with a simple mission: to share what is (and isn't) working in our OT practice.
Recently, my heart has really been pushing me to undertake the issue of evidence-based practice. I am so eager to help fight this information underload problem in our profession and help point you in the direction of resources that can elevate your profession—and are backed by science.
Will we be able to do it perfectly?
No.
Will it be a huge learning curve?
Yes.
But here’s to trying...together.
With that said, I’d like to share:
The 50 most-cited OT articles from the past five years
Just looking at this title makes my blood pump a little faster. Sifting through mountains of articles just to get to the top 50 articles is a lot of work, and when I started researching for this article, it felt overwhelming.
Luckily, I was able to team up with a research librarian to make this article happen.
I wanted to begin by looking at which articles were having the biggest impact throughout the medical community, and also mentioned OT.

Dance with the Devil is a CMV that explores the relationship between England and Spain, the past and present one. Specifically, the story deals with the abuse Spain endured under England’s hands during the age of exploration, and how he deals with the memory of it in the present as he partakes in a sexual relationship with England.
The video opens with a blindfolded Spain struggling to get out of the chair that he has been tied down to. Smirking, England quietly sips his tea and relishes in watching the other man struggle. This in a nut shell is what their relationship entails during their pirating years together – pain, pleasure, and more pain.
There was no love, no consideration between them. England would leave Spain tied up for days, throw his body into a dungeon bruised and battered; and grip his face so hard one might wonder if his intent was to squeeze the eyeballs right out of Spain’s head.  Their relationship was fucked up and it was wrong. Spain held no delusions that England cared about him. No. He was a mere toy to be tossed around and played with, discarded if he grew too docile or compliant. England was the devil incarnated.
Trembling Crawling Across my Skin Feeling Your Cold Dead Eyes Stealing the Life of Mine.
Escape was the only option Spain had to save his own life. Staying with England was draining him, killing him ever so slowly. The circumstances of how Spain eventually ran away were not covered in the CMV.  However, I do feel that despite being abused, Spain did develop real and genuine feelings for England during the time of his captivity. He is, after all, the type of character that can see the good in others even when those people display behaviors that are considered rude, hostile, or rotten. Then again, Spain is also quite dense and possibly did not recognize those feeling welling up inside him. Instead, he may have buried them underneath the more overwhelming feelings of hate and fear he felt towards England.
As with all relationships that consist of captor and captive, one might think that Spain’s feelings are a result of Stockholm syndrome. My answer to that is, maybe? In this case, it is very hard to determine if the feelings were derived from this because Spain doesn’t paint England in a positive light at all. He doesn’t think that the man is abusing him out of love. As the song points out, “I believe in you, I can show you that I can see right through all your empty lies.” Clearly, Spain has a very clear view of who England is, and he decides to escape from him.  Most people who feel any sympathy for their captor would have stayed. The line ‘I believe in you’ can be interpreted in two ways. The first is that Spain believes in the goodness in England’s heart, as mentioned above. The second interpretation of that line is that Spain believes in England’s darkness, and that is the only side of England he can trust because he doesn’t underestimate it and can see through all the man’s lies. If we take on the second interpretation as truth, then that further provides us evidence that Spain is not a victim of Stockholm syndrome.
In any case, this leads up to the present, where two men are trying to form a healthy relationship with each other despite their gruesome past. At first glance, it is quite easy to see how the years have changed them both. England is uncertain, awkward, but seems to have developed genuine feelings for Spain in return. He hesitates to bring his hand closer to Spain’s as they sit on the bench together in one scene. In turn, Spain finds the action to be cute, but he will not look England in the eye.
This is the first sign that something is not quite right with their relationship.
Spain seems fine with hand-holding, but the moment England displays any aggressiveness towards him when their kissing – fear stabs through Spain’s heart.  When he looks at England, he can only see the smug, evil bastard from the past that tortured him. Unbeknownst to him, England has no intention of hurting Spain ever again. He is only being aggressive with him because he is aroused, and it is in his nature to be a bit dominating during intimate moments (he can’t change who he is deep down completely).  However, England doesn’t use a lot of force to pin Spain down, which is why Spain can easily push him away when he grows uncomfortable.
Regardless, Spain is terrified of his touch. When England lovingly caresses his face all he can think about is that same cruel hand that had squeezed his cheeks so hard it left indentations in his skin. How can you love and trust someone not to hurt you when all you know from their touch is pain?
England doesn’t quite help the situation either. He loves Spain and is quite capable of being sweet, but he also shows signs of impatience when Spain rejects him. He even chases the other man down to his home, promptly seduces him, sleeps with him, and then leaves afterward without so much as a backward glance at his bed companion. In short, England isn’t an angel and never pretended to be. It is obvious that he is trying to make their relationship work, but at the same time he knows what he wants and the old pirate in him forces him to take what he wants by force. He is literally incapable of showing Spain the patience he needs to move on from their past.
Therefore, their relationship has seemingly reached a road block. It makes you wonder if the CMV will have a good ending at all. What makes the two finally come together is the important scene of the two dancing together, both wearing all black.
The color black itself is very significant and sets the tone for this moment. Black is associated with power, elegance, fear, death, evil, and mystery.
This, in turn, makes it hard to determine if the scene took place in reality, or was it somehow an alternate reality, a dream world perhaps that the two had created from their mutual desire to be together. In any case, the first part of the dance showcases England in control – every movement, every gesture, Spain is forced to replicate it like a lifeless doll.  It is a clear sign that they are not equals in any sense of the word.
The dance continues and the momentum shifts as Spain begins to take more of a lead, dipping England, taking back his own power in their relationship. He pushes England back, not out of fear, but because he wants to showcase his power over England by walking up to him in a sultry show of confidence. They share a kiss that leaves England confused, but aroused.
He looks confused because at that very moment he senses something has changed in Spain. They have become equals. After having established his power, Spain for the first time genuinely smiles at England, taking his hand.
The CMV’s conclusion returns us to the first scene of the video – Spain tied to the chair. The ropes tying him down slowly unravel from around his wrist, the blindfold comes undone and Spain looks up and finally meets England’s eyes dead on.
This scene is here to tell us that Spain will no longer be held captive by his memories (the ropes). That he will no longer refuse to meet England eyes (the releasing of the blindfold).
In the end, Spain desired to hold equal power and control in their relationship. To know that he too could love and destroy England just as much as the other man could do to him.

Lately I have been reading a bit of the red pill manosphere stuff. Not going to lie, a lot of it is just plain entertaining.
A lot of the discussion on there revolves around gaming women, traditional gender roles, anti-feminism, what it takes to be a man or alpha, etc. Some of it is insightful and rightly calls out how some women behave in Western society. There are even some articles on there that bring Bible stories into the discussion. Not that all the people writing these Bible articles are actually believers of the Word, but to them it serves to illustrate the “nature of women” for as long as we have had civilization. I would tend to agree with this. There isn’t really anything new under the sun, so the idea that men and women have dealt with the same familiar spirits for generations makes sense.
At the end of it, though, the “red pill lens” as it pertains to feminism really feels like it wants to advocate for the traditional gender roles/order within the home, but without God. It’s done from more of an evolutionary perspective and operates out of the flesh. Good luck with that.
It also called to my mind an interesting passage from the Book of Jasher, part of the biblical apocrypha, specifically in chapter 2:
20 And some of the sons of men caused their wives to drink a draught that would render them barren, in order that they might retain their figures and whereby their beautiful appearance might not fade.
21 And when the sons of men caused some of their wives to drink, Zillah [a woman who was a seventh generation descendant of Cain] drank with them.
22 And the child-bearing women appeared abominable in the sight of their husbands as widows, whilst their husbands lived, for to the barren ones only they were attached.
This is basically the entirety of most SMV-talk which comprises a relevant portion of the red-pill school of thought. Regardless of whether you believe this story or not, the Book of Jasher has been around for centuries, so this sort of man-woman dynamic has clearly been around for a while. These men in the Book of Jasher kept their women barren as they had hit their “wall.” Their SMV had apparently all but disappeared.
Red pill ideas are nothing new. They are simply becoming more popular and rephrased to appeal to the flesh. I have noticed that a lot of it also operates out of a root of bitterness, which I can understand because of the way many of these men’s lives have been ruined, but bitterness will always open destructive gates in the spirit. This sort of thinking is another kind of bondage.
We must always test the spirits, a hard lesson I had to learn very recently, and see how what we are presented with aligns with the Word.
I will say one more thing on this topic. There are a number of stories of barren women in the Bible who the Lord God opened their wombs after they had been barren for years. Sarah the mother of Isaac was a famous one, as was Hannah, the mother of Samuel the prophet, and here in the Book of Jasher we read about Zillah. Many times the Lord’s way will run counter to the wisdom of man.
I don’t know why I felt compelled to post this, but it’s been on my mind lately.
