Yvette Mimieux (Dark of the Sun; Joy in the Morning; Where the Boys Are)—She is so enchanting on screen... that ethereal presence paired with her dark, sparkling eyes gives her an almost dream-like quality...
Xia Meng, also known as Hsia Moog or Miranda Yang (Sunrise, Bride Hunter)—For those who are familiar with Hong Kong's early cinema, Xia Meng is THE leading woman of an era, the earliest "silver-screen goddess", "The Great Beauty" and "Audrey Hepburn of the East". Xia Meng starred in 38 films in her 17-year career, and famously had rarely any flops, from her first film at the age of 18 to her last at the age of 35. She was a rare all-round actress in Mandarin-language films, acting, singing, and dancing with an enchanting ease in films of diverse genres, from contemporary drama to period operas. She was regarded as the "crown princess" among the "Three Princesses of the Great Wall", the iconic leading stars of the Great Wall Movie Enterprises, which was Hong Kong's leading left-wing studio in the 1950s-60s. At the time, Hong Kong cinema had only just taken off, but Xia Meng's influence had already spread out to China, Singapore, etc. Overseas Chinese-language magazines and newspapers often featured her on their covers. The famous HK wuxia novelist Jin Yong had such a huge crush on her that he made up a whole fake identity as a nobody-screenwriter to join the Great Wall studio just so he can write scripts for her. He famously said, "No one has really seen how beautiful Xi Shi (one of the renowned Four Beauties of ancient China) is, I think she should be just like Xia Meng to live up to her name." In 1980, she returned to the HK film industry by forming the Bluebird Movie Enterprises. As a producer with a heart for the community, she wanted to make a film on the Vietnam War and the many Vietnam War refugees migrating to Hong Kong. She approached director Ann Hui and produced the debut film Boat People (1982), a globally successful movie and landmark feature for Hong Kong New Wave, which won several awards including the best picture and best director in the second Hong Kong Film Award. Years later, Ann Hui looked back on her collaboration with Xia Meng, "I'm very grateful to her for allowing me to make what is probably the best film I've ever made in my life."
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

I've come to humbly request and spread propaganda for Jamil L/N.
Jamil taking his s/o's name strikes 3 birds with one stone: freedom from the Asims (you can't tell me there hasn't been a single Viper who didn't marry into another family and adopt their trade), freedom to marry the love of his life, and guaranteeing freedom for his descendants. Depending on how things go with Najma, they could erase the Viper name and, by extension, their servitude.
Also how does he react being called Mr.L/N?
Tumblr media
💞 — in which jamil marries you and takes your last name.
💞 — jamil viper x reader
💞 — warnings: none, this is pure fluff and romance
💞 — 1.2k words. i ended up writing a mix of drabbles and headcanons <33 your propaganda turned into me making even more propaganda for this idea. honestly, seems very plausible that he would do something like this.
Tumblr media
“I’ll take your last name. If we want to get married, I have to take your name, or else you’d be stuck serving with me,” Jamil said, breaking the silence. His eyes remained on the book in his lap, looking through the various pictures from his parents’ wedding. He would be wearing his father’s old garments.
The man had an intricate belt with a jambiyah (dagger) tied around the waist of his thobe (long dress-like garment), and his hair was done in various braids with a shemagh (men’s headscarf) tied over it. He had a few ornate pieces of fabric draped over him like a cape and a spot of henna on the inside of his palm. The usual kohl (eyeliner) was a bit smudged from all the festivities—Jamil had never seen his father look this happy.
His mother was dressed similarly, with old pieces of gold and silver jewelry about. Her big earrings had matched the rings his father wore, and she had kohl drawn on both her eyes and her chin, in the shape of ancient tattoos. Here hair had scented plants interwoven in the strands, and Jamil wondered if he should do the same with his hair, draping a shemagh over it. It seemed like something you would enjoy, and he would enjoy you taking them out at the end of the night. He spoke again, “What do you think of that?” he asked, concerning him taking your name.
You smiled and rested your head on his shoulder, flipping the page to another picture of his parents’s wedding, this one featuring his mother shyly lifting a piece of her sitara (long piece of fabric with various designs which directly translates to ‘curtain’) to hide her face from her husband, “I think it's a wonderful idea.”
🩷 — Taking your last name was probably the best decision he could have made. He indulged in the marriage festivities with you for both your sake and his parent’s sake. What he was excited about was signing the contract that officially gave him your surname—freeing him from the shackles of the Viper clan.
🩷 — He did it after the festivities when it was just the two of you guys and the imam as well as a legal advisor. You both were still in the wedding clothes, sitting on an ornate rug with a little table in front of you.
🩷 — Jamil could feel the tremors of his heart in his hand as he lifted the pen and signed his name beside yours. This time, Viper was nowhere to be found.
🩷 — With that, Jamil shook hands with the imam and then handed the page to the legal advisor to be put in the Scalding Sands’s records. It all felt so surreal. He glanced over his shoulder to see you gleefully talking to the imam about the marriage and showing off your wedding band.
🩷 — It was a thin gold ring that he had made with the antiquities left by his family. Nothing fancy—he wanted to give you diamonds, and yet you were so smitten with it and him.
Once nightfall came, Jamil lay beside you in your bed. A bed for the both of you. It was a bed he bought under his new name, Jamil (L/N), under the surname you gifted him. His charcoal eyes watched as you sat down at the edge of the bed, your night robe dipped down your back. It matched his nightgown, save for the patterns. He helped you fall in love with the comfortable garb of his homeland.
You turned slightly to see him, your eyes growing tender at the sight of him all disheveled. This was a sight just for you, “What are you thinking about?” you asked, reaching out to take his hand.
Jamil pulled you closer to him by your hand, forcing you to lay on top of him. He kissed your knuckles, “Thinking about you, hayati (my life),” he muttered, before letting his hand trail up your arm and to the back of your neck. His gaze had softened and his features relaxed, “Thank you,”
You did not need to ask why he thanked you. You knew he felt indebted to you for being patient with him and becoming his spouse. You gave him the greatest gift ever, freedom. Free to be yours, free from Kalim Al-Asim. You freed his descendants… he would spend the rest of his life as your husband, repaying you with kisses across your skin and warm meals in your belly.
🩷 — It takes him a long time to get used to his new name, as well as his newfound freedom. After your wedding, he takes you out to do many of the things he could not do before, such as travel to another country, but even simple things like going out to parks.
🩷 — He did not have to worry about Kalim anymore, just your and his enjoyment.
🩷 — Jamil still has yet to get used to being called by your surname. When he notices it, he is filled with a smug and quiet pride, but most of the time he just ends up ignoring whoever is calling for him, or glancing over at you in confusion, thinking that they are speaking with you and not him.
🩷 — This was particularly apparent when it came to the reunion at Night Raven College.
🩷 — He did not want to go, but he could not reject you either. You were excited about seeing your silly friends, and who was he to stop you from going? Instead, he just sighed and went along with you, standing off to the side and watching as you ran about to gather Ace and Deuce, as well as greeting your other friends.
“If it isn’t the new Mr. (L/N),” Azul approached his former classmate with a suave grin. He had grown up, but it was clear he still kept that usual ‘evil businessman’ charm to him. His suit was freshly pressed and his hair, which had grown a bit, was brushed back neatly. Though, he was still wearing the same thin-rimmed glasses.
Jamil turned around when he heard your surname being called, and it took him a moment to realize what was happening. He was your husband. Sure, he remembered your wedding—he carried a picture from it all the time, but it was still strange hearing it affirmed by someone else. He tried to hide how happy he was to hear it behind a raised brow and his usual frown, “What do you want, Azul? My spouse isn’t going to be pulled into one of your schemes anymore,” he said, arms crossed.
Azul laughed at that, tilting his cane a bit as he leaned away from Jamil, “You wound me, Jamil. As if I would try anything like that anymore,” he replied, and the irony was not lost on him at all. Instead, he sighed and watched as Jamil’s eyes found your figure again. You were chasing Epel around, trying to get a hug from your old friend. It was just like before, except now you wore a ring from Jamil and he wore a name from you.
“You don’t seem so poor and unfortunate now,” Azul said.
Jamil could not bite back the slight twitch of his lips, “Not at all.”

Sanji/Germa Kingdom and Uranus
As I've read some theories about the Ancient Weapons, something about Sanji specifically caught my attention. It's probably more of a big coincidence rather than something Oda planned, but I found it interesting nonetheless and wanted to share with whoever reads this.
So, by now, everyone has already noticed that the three weapons have a connection with three Greco Roman deities, who in turn are connected with the three last planets of the solar system (when Pluto was still considered a planet).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Along with that, a lot of people noticed that the Straw Hats' three main fighters (after Luffy) each have a connection with these weapons through their mothers' name and/or titles.
Pluton-> Pluto (Roman)-> Hades (Greek name)-> God of the Underworld (Hell)-> Underworld-> Earth (Tera is his mother) -> Zoro: King of Hell
Poseidon-> Neptune (Roman)-> Poseidon: God of the Seas-> Sea-> Jimbei: First Son of the Sea/Knight of the Sea
Uranus-> Father Sky, the personification of the Heavens (before Zeus took over)-> Sky-> Sora (Sky) Vinsmoke and Sora, Warrior of the Sea -> Sanji
But there is another connection, at least for the two first weapons: their locations also were deeply connected with Zoro and Jimbei. How?
Jimbei is from Fishmen Island -> that's where Poseidon is located.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoro's ancestors came from Wano -> where Pluton is located
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This could be just a very odd coincidence that Oda might not have noticed he did, but let's assume, for the sake of this theory, that it was planned.
With the connection that Sanji shares with Uranus, it might also give us a hint as to where it might be hidden, or was hidden.
If this connection was made on purpose, we have two possibilities:
1. First one is the Germa Kingdom. We can suspect that Sanji's origin story still is not over and the past of the Vinsmokes still is a bit mysterious to us. We heard that they were taken down by the Marines because they were tyrannical rulers, but there's a big chance it was a lie (Oda even let this idea hang in the air through Vito).
Tumblr media
The Marines and WG love to spread fake rumors through propaganda to discredit their enemies. They did that with Kuma, who might not have been a tyrannical ruler, but only an enemy of the WG.
Tumblr media
Thia part of the theory will be more of speculation and I needs a lot more evidence in the manga, but let's do it for fun.
We can suspect the GK probably was a threat to the WG not because of its tyrannical rule (we have seen a lot of tyrant leaders in OP and most of the time, nothing is done to stop them as long as there is no threat to the WG), but because they might've been hiding something related to the AK OR threatening the rule of the WG in some way (or both). I always found it interesting how Oda chose to make GK a powerful Kingdom, so powerful it was able to rule over the entire North Blue.
And the fact that, after Germa's defeat, they decided to publish stories that portrayed the Vinsmokes as villains might indicate that they probably were the opposite and their only real "crime" was to threaten the WG in some way.
As you can already suspect with the beginning of this thread, the crime could have been connected with the Ancient Weapons - and after they lost, the WG probably took their territory and every information and weaponry they had.
Something that bugs me about Germa too is the fact that they are a country without land to rule over and Judge is actively trying to take the North back but at the same time, they have the recognition of the WG to attend the Reverie. Why? Wouldn't they, even before the WCI fiasco, have realized that?
And if the Vinsmokes once ruled over the entire North Blue, they surely had some type of capital, like Alubarna, right? What happened to that place? Was it destroyed like Ohara? Or is it under the WG's control?
One of the other factors that could go against this theory is that the Germa Kingdom began 300 years ago - 600 years after the Void Century, so there could be no way the Vinsmokes knew about Joyboy like, i.e. Queen Lili did. Or could it?
Tumblr media
You see, that period referred to the time when the GK took over the entire North, but they probably existed a long time before that, as an expanding kingdom. We don't really know for how long the Vinsmokes existed and ruled.
2. The other option is that Uranus could have been hidden in the birthplace of Sora, Sanji's mother. However, we do not know her origins, much less the reasons for her to marry Judge. We can reach a little and assume that because of her name, she could have come from a Sky Island? Sanji himself seems to share some interesting connection with the Sky elements (and sters) and in recent chapters a lot of fans pointed out his interest in stargazing and even Oda's weird drawing connecting him with UFOs and even space elements itself. Here are two links for theories I found on the matter:
Tumblr media
But this part has even less evidence than the Germa option, so we will have to wait and see.
The fact remains that Germa is probably coming back, and with it we might find out more about its past along with Sora's. And with the manga coming to an end and focusing more on the Void Century, I don't think it's far-fetched to assume that Germa might hold some important connection with it that will surely help the Straw Hats in their future adventures. Only time will tell. Thanks for reading this crazy theory!
Again, I know most of it has no foundation, but I felt like it would be interesting to point out before we got the definite answer. If you have any theories of where Uranus might be hidden, feel free to comment!

are there any specific songs/music genres your ocs would listen to? could be in game or real life
this is a hard question to answer because i don't understand music genres at all or listen to much variety myself lol. It's not a topic I've thought about much at all for most of my OCs, so I'll just keep it short with who I actually know anything about...
Peppermint and Engel are both Squid Squad stans, but Engel is also into weird ancient bands from the 70's that haven't been relevant for a hot minute due to his upbringing in the Deepsea, where everything becomes trendy like 10 years after it's become lame everywhere else and media tends to be on a giant delay as a result.
Boy has like three overlapping music careers so really he just listens to anything that's got a good groove going on as long as it's not classical. He has a soft spot for electronic music
I doubt Amber cares about music as anything more than background noise, most of the time, or even actively listens to any that often. But since the Alterna music records were discovered and brought into publicity, she's probably been really into those. (She is PUZZLED by Seep & Destroy.)
Squl likes rock, metal and edgy music and has recently been spreading his Deep Sea Dead Zone propaganda to the rest of his team(s). Nori would give up a limb to go get Callie's autograph. Graf mainly listens to extremely bizarre and quirky music, mostly without lyrics. I don't think Toast listens to music much at all.
Dodo seems like he has zero interest or passion for anything but he actually has a giant CD- and vinyl collection, though its largely bands before the 2000's, and a lot of niche Deepsea bands that no one on the surface ever even heard of.
Kombu is a reggae enjoyer and he wants music to be chill and have compelling lyrics. He doesn't love the super fast pace of a lot of modern mainstream music. He comes up with a lot of lyrics naturally and writes down a lot of love songs that he never makes, and he bonds with Engel a lot over their passion for deep lyrics, but he tends to get distressed over Engel's lyrics.
Flint listens to absurdly loud heavy metal but he's really not that picky. He doesn't understand lyrics 89% of the time and he doesn't care or listen.
there's some. i hope it suffices

The Druids : Brahmins of Ancient Europe
Tumblr media
The Celtic people spread from their homeland in what is now Germany across Europe in the first millennium bce. Iron tools and weapons rendered them superior to their neighbors. They were also skilled farmers, road builders, traders and inventors of a fast two-wheeled chariot. They declined in the face of Roman, Germanic and Slavic ascendency by the second centuries BCE.
Tumblr media
Here Peter Berresford Ellis, one of Europe’s foremost experts of the Celts, explains how modern research has revealed the amazing similarities between ancient Celt and Vedic culture. The Celt’s priestly caste, the Druids, has become a part of modern folklore. Their identity is claimed by New Age enthusiasts likely to appear at annual solstice gatherings around the ancient megaliths of northwest Europe. While sincerely motivated by a desire to resurrect Europe’s ancient spiritual ways, Ellis says these modern Druids draw more upon fanciful reconstructions of the 18th century than actual scholarship.
The Druids of the ancient Celtic world have a startling kinship with the brahmins of the Hindu religion and were, indeed, a parallel development from their common Indo-European cultural root which began to branch out probably five thousand years ago. It has been only in recent decades that Celtic scholars have begun to reveal the full extent of the parallels and cognates between ancient Celtic society and Vedic culture.
Tumblr media
The Celts were the first civilization north of the European Alps to emerge into recorded history. At the time of their greatest expansion, in the 3rd century bce, the Celts stretched from Ireland in the west, through to the central plain of Turkey in the east; north from Belgium, down to Cadiz in southern Spain and across the Alps into the Po Valley of Italy. They even impinged on areas of Poland and the Ukraine and, if the amazing recent discoveries of mummies in China’s province of Xinjiang are linked with the Tocharian texts, they even moved as far east as the area north of Tibet.
The once great Celtic civilization is today represented only by the modern Irish, Manx and Scots, and the Welsh, Cornish and Bretons. Today on the northwest fringes of Europe cling the survivors of centuries of attempted conquest and “ethnic cleansing” by Rome and its imperial descendants. But of the sixteen million people who make up those populations, only 2.5 million now speak a Celtic language as their mother tongue.
Tumblr media
The Druids were not simply priesthood. They were the intellectual caste of ancient Celtic society, incorporating all the professions: judges, lawyers, medical doctors, ambassadors, historians and so forth, just as does the brahmin caste. In fact, other names designate the specific role of the “priests.” Only Roman and later Christian propaganda turned them into “shamans,” “wizards” and “magicians.” The scholars of the Greek Alexandrian school clearly described them as a parallel caste to the brahmins of Vedic society.
The very name Druid is composed of two Celtic word roots which have parallels in Sanskrit. Indeed, the root vid for knowledge, which also emerges in the Sanskrit word Veda, demonstrates the similarity. The Celtic root dru which means “immersion” also appears in Sanskrit. So a Druid was one “immersed in knowledge.”
Because Ireland was one of the few areas of the Celtic world that was not conquered by Rome and therefore not influenced by Latin culture until the time of its Christianization in the 5th century ce, its ancient Irish culture has retained the most clear and startling parallels to Hindu society.
Professor Calvert Watkins of Harvard, one of the leading linguistic experts in his field, has pointed out that of all the Celtic linguistic remains, Old Irish represents an extraordinarily archaic and conservative tradition within the Indo-European family. Its nominal and verbal systems are a far truer reflection of the hypothesized parent tongue, from which all Indo-European languages developed, than are Classical Greek or Latin. The structure of Old Irish, says Professor Watkins, can be compared only with that of Vedic Sanskrit or Hittite of the Old Kingdom.
The vocabulary is amazingly similar. The following are just a few examples:
Old Irish – arya (freeman),Sanskrit – aire (noble) Old Irish – naib (good), Sanskrit – noeib (holy) Old Irish – badhira (deaf), Sanskrit – bodhar (deaf) Old Irish – names (respect), Sanskrit – nemed (respect) Old Irish – righ (king), Sanskrit – raja (king)
This applies not only in the field of linguistics but in law and social custom, in mythology, in folk custom and in traditional musical form. The ancient Irish law system, the Laws of the Fénechus, is closely parallel to the Laws of Manu. Many surviving Irish myths, and some Welsh ones, show remarkable resemblances to the themes, stories and even names in the sagas of the Indian Vedas.
Comparisons are almost endless. Among the ancient Celts, Danu was regarded as the “Mother Goddess.” The Irish Gods and Goddesses were the Tuatha De Danaan (“Children of Danu”). Danu was the “divine waters” falling from heaven and nurturing Bíle, the sacred oak from whose acorns their children sprang. Moreover, the waters of Danu went on to create the great Celtic sacred river–Danuvius, today called the Danube. Many European rivers bear the name of Danu–the Rhône (ro- Dhanu, “Great Danu”) and several rivers called Don. Rivers were sacred in the Celtic world, and places where votive offerings were deposited and burials often conducted. The Thames, which flows through London, still bears its Celtic name, from Tamesis, the dark river, which is the same name as Tamesa, a tributary of the Ganges.
Not only is the story of Danu and the Danube a parallel to that of Ganga and the Ganges but a Hindu Danu appears in the Vedic story “The Churning of the Oceans,” a story with parallels in Irish and Welsh mytholgy. Danu in Sanskrit also means “divine waters” and “moisture.”
In ancient Ireland, as in ancient Hindu society, there was a class of poets who acted as charioteers to the warriors They were also their intimates and friends. In Irish sagas these charioteers extolled the prowess of the warriors. The Sanskrit Satapatha Brahmana says that on the evening of the first day of the horse sacrifice (and horse sacrifice was known in ancient Irish kingship rituals, recorded as late as the 12th century) the poets had to chant a praise poem in honor of the king or his warriors, usually extolling their genealogy and deeds.
Such praise poems are found in the Rig Veda and are called narasamsi. The earliest surviving poems in old Irish are also praise poems, called fursundud, which trace back the genealogy of the kings of Ireland to Golamh or Mile Easpain, whose sons landed in Ireland at the end of the second millennium bce. When Amairgen, Golamh’s son, who later traditions hail as the “first Druid,” set foot in Ireland, he cried out an extraordinary incantation that could have come from the Bhagavad Gita, subsuming all things into his being
Celtic cosmology is a parallel to Vedic cosmology. Ancient Celtic astrologers used a similar system based on twenty-seven lunar mansions, called nakshatras in Vedic Sanskrit. Like the Hindu Soma, King Ailill of Connacht, Ireland, had a circular palace constructed with twenty-seven windows through which he could gaze on his twenty-seven “star wives.”
Tumblr media
There survives the famous first century bce Celtic calendar (the Coligny Calendar) which, as soon as it was first discovered in 1897, was seen to have parallels to Vedic calendrical computations. In the most recent study of it, Dr. Garret Olmsted, an astronomer as well as Celtic scholar, points out the startling fact that while the surviving calendar was manufactured in the first century bce, astronomical calculus shows that it must have been computed in 1100 bce.
One fascinating parallel is that the ancient Irish and Hindus used the name Budh for the planet Mercury. The stem budh appears in all the Celtic languages, as it does in Sanskrit, as meaning “all victorious,” “gift of teaching,” “accomplished,” “enlightened,” “exalted” and so on. The names of the famous Celtic queen Boudicca, of ancient Britain (1st century ce), and of Jim Bowie (1796-1836), of the Texas Alamo fame, contain the same root. Buddha is the past participle of the same Sanskrit word–“one who is enlightened.”
For Celtic scholars, the world of the Druids of reality is far more revealing and exciting, and showing of the amazingly close common bond with its sister Vedic culture, than the inventions of those who have now taken on the mantle of modern “Druids,” even when done so with great sincerity.
Tumblr media
If we are all truly wedded to living in harmony with one another, with nature, and seeking to protect endangered species of animal and plant life, let us remember that language and culture can also be in ecological danger. The Celtic languages and cultures today stand on the verge of extinction. That is no natural phenomenon but the result of centuries of politically directed ethnocide. What price a “spiritual awareness” with the ancient Celts when their culture is in the process of being destroyed or reinvented? Far better we seek to understand and preserve intact the Celt’s ancient wisdom. In this, Hindus may prove good allies.
The Song of Amairgen the Druid I am the wind that blows across the sea; I am the wave of the ocean; I am the murmur of the billows; I am the bull of the seven combats; I am the vulture on the rock; I am a ray of the sun; I am the fairest of flowers; I am a wild boar in valor; I am a salmon in the pool; I am a lake on the plain; I am the skill of the craftsman; I am a word of science; I am the spearpoint that gives battle; I am the God who creates in the head of man the fire of thought. Who is it that enlightens the assembly upon the mountain, if not I? Who tells the ages of the moon, if not I? Who shows the place where the sun goes to rest, if not I? Who is the God that fashions enchantments– The enchantment of battle and the wind of change?
Amairgen was the first Druid to arrive in Ireland. Ellis states, “In this song Amairgen subsumes everything into his own being with a philosophic outlook that parallels the declaration of Krishna in the Hindu Bhagavad-Gita.” It also is quite similar in style and content to the more ancient Sri Rudra chant of the Yajur Veda.

Dr. Justin Sledge, one of the world's formost experts on historical systems of magic (yes; he's a historians of wizards. This guy is awesome), discusses the history of the fabled Library of Alexandria, and why you are spreading misinformation, and missing the point, every time you reblog a Tumblr post whining about it.
youtube
Quick highlights for the video-watching impaired:
1) It was real and cool, but it was hardly as big or as important as you think it was.
2) It was more an expression of Hellenistic colonial propaganda and Greek-supremacy than some kind of sacred repository of ancient knowledge. It was one library of many, to these ends.
3) Most of the reason Caesar didn't care if he burned it down was because it had already decayed into a neglected boondoggle only ultra-nerds cared at all about by that time.
4) Your state college library provides you access to 10,000x more books, including most of what the Library of Alexandria probably had. That you will never read, because it is boring ancient philosophy and unreliable histories that don't mean anything to you. And certainly didn't mean anything to most people alive then.
It didn't have secret ancient biplane schematics or how to build an Egyptian battery. Those aren't real things.
And no, there wasn't a Dark Age in Europe because the Library of Alexandria burned down. Any chaos in Europe was not a result of them losing access to scrolls like 8 people could ever read, when things were good.

A very old man just invaded my personal space at the pharmacy to lean over the counter and shout "I have the flu and you're out of dayquil!" at the pharmacist.
Couple of notes
He was not wearing a mask
He was actively wiping his snotty nose and touching the counter
He almost touched me
Now since it's not socially acceptable to murder the elderly, I decided to invent a conspiracy theory which the pharmacist either played along with or I'm late to a party.
"You should really be wearing a mask" I said to the elderly plague vector
He turns and fixes me with the reagonomics stare of fuck the future economy, gives a big snotty sniff, and says "I ain't scared of a fucking virus"
"Well sure," I say, safely ensconced in my mask and multiple vaccinations. "But what about the Chinese ai bots?"
This confuses him. He knows the liberal talking points. He doesn't care about his own health, or my health, or the pharmacist. But China? AI? These are scary words. The colorful picture box tells him so at night.
"What about them?" He asks suspiciously. This is new. A conspiracy he doesn't know but in his heart he wants it, I can tell.
"You haven't heard?" I ask coming up with multiple tons of bullshit on the spot. "All those new AI art bot things online? It's a Chinese ploy to make better deep fake technology. They steal your face off surveillance cameras and then recreate you they can spread propaganda."
Is this happening? Probably not. None of those sentences make sense. Why would they want random faces? To whom would your face be especially good at for propaganda? The AI art bots are definitely evil. Just saw the post today about tencent and their anime face capture nonsense, it gave me the idea honestly.
But he wants to believe me. I see that ancient hamster, a survivor of Noah's arc I'm sure, spinning that brain worm infested wheel trying to figure out where this lands in his universe. He takes a moment, another wet sniff.
"Surely we're fine inside?" He decides. The mask is still evil. The shouty man on fox said so. "Target is a good American company."
And the pharmacist, with perfect comedic timing in the most deadpan voice.
"Actually Target takes a lot of money from overseas"
The look on this man's face. His entire world started to unravel. Part of me wishes I could have done more but really, what could I have possibly added at that point?

"The screeds⁶ are... drastic; Humor weak; Style bombastic⁷..."
Here Lovecraft writes of his supposed 'superiority' over a published writer.
"It's useful to provoke a better."⁸
Then, Howard remembers his more skilled antagonist.
"Russell, now... reigns in State, Argosy's crowned Laureate,⁹ But for me alone... You'd be unknown."¹⁰
Finally, HPL wraps things up.
"In vain you dread; I'll not condemn what I've not read!"¹¹
Notes:
1. The title is Latin for "forewarned is forearmed." This serves as a motto for various groups, warships & other armed forces.
It's also the title for the 2nd edition of "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion."¹²
2. Lovecraft was a picky word user. So one has to be careful as to his true intent.
"Explodes", here, leads to "an intense & uncontrollable display of emotion." Something Howard had accused Jackson of before - but, about Jackson's stories...
Weird Bit: "Asplode", the 'funny' version of "explode."
In Homestar Runner (an animated web series), a Vector Strong Bad explains, "Your head a splode."
3. "Mush", for HPL, =s "sickening romantic fancies." Another common Lovecraftian accusation of Jackson's works.
But, being that Howard was such a sarcastic person, I'd like to think that he had some fun with words as well.
Especially with the main definition of mush, "a soft & 'pulpy' mass."
4. Since HPL's letter dates back to June of 1914, that leads to "The 3rd Act" - which was Jackson's only work to come out in that month.
This was the 2nd novel by Pittsburgh born Jackson. He later moved on to Hollywood & became a prolific screen writer.
His best work is probably "Stormy Weather" with Lena Horne.
5. This is the full length of Lovecraft's current letter of 'poetic' criticism.
6. A screed is a "long, angry & fault finding rant."
7. Bombastic =s "a pompous but, meaningless speech intended to impress listeners."
Originally, bombastic comes from the 1500s. There it was used to describe "cotton padding."
8. When Howard joined the UAPA, he was of the opinion that English lit was being destroyed by commercialism.
Further, HPL felt that amateur writers were important in preserving "that which is eternal & fades not..."
This letter 'proves' that Lovecraft was already of that opinion before the UAPA.
And, that this opinion was part of his idea of literary superiority.
9. A laureate is the greatest award for outstanding work in the arts & sciences.
In ancient Greece, Apollo's laurel crown honored poets & athletes - since the Olympics began in 776 BC!
Then, the Romans wore these crowns - but, as symbols of military victories.
10. Here, Howard shows he's aware of the Jackson War being noticed out- side of Argosy's fan base.
But, I don't think HPL knew that he was getting the same kind of exposure himself.
Lovecraft seemed surprised to be invited to join the UAPA...
11. Here it sounds like Howard was looking forward to reading future letters from Jackson & Russell.
Or, HPL was going to read Jackson's "The 3rd Act" & didn't want to pre- judge it.
12. A notorious anti-Semitic screed said to reveal Zionist plans for world domination.
Actually, it's racist propaganda that was plagiarized from earlier sources.
It was 1st published in 1903's Imperial Russia & then spread internationally.
The British Times newspaper debunked this conspiracy theory in 1921.
Frankfurter Zeitung, a German newspaper, did the same in 1924.
Yet, in 1931 (7 years later!), the Nazis taught parts of it in Germany - as if it was true...
Sadly, it is still around.
But, most people now know what kind of folk are actually trying to take over the world...
We have enough experience to know the difference.

THE ORIGINAL RELIGION OF THE DOGON IS THE RELIGION FROM WHICH ALL THE OTHER RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD HAVE BEEN TAKEN.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE A MASTER OF SPEECH THAT CAN SPEAK IN ORDER TO SAY THE WORD. THE "WORD" IS THE WATER SERPENT THAT IS THE POLE OF THE DNA, AKA THE SPIRIT (SOUL).
IN EACH OF THESE EXCERPTS BELOW YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE HOW THEY ALL RELATE TO EACH OTHER. ALL AROUND THE WORLD IT'S THE SAME SONG RETOLD IN DIFFERENT WAYS. THAT'S WHY IT'S SO EASY TO SEE WHEN SPIRITUALITY HAS BEEN CORRUPTED, BECAUSE WHEN IT DOESN'T MATCH WITH WHAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY SUPPOSED TO BE, TO THE EXTENT THAT IT'S OBVIOUSLY A CON, LIKE WITH THE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS, YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY SEE THE TRUTH ABOUT THEIR REAL INTENTIONS WITH THEIR INVENTED ROMAN PROPAGANDA RELIGION, AND THE PROCEEDING RELIGION OF JUDAISM WHICH WAS CREATED BY CRIMINALS IN A JAIL IN BABYLON IN ORDER TO TRY AND CON THEIR WAY OUT OF TROUBLE. THEY CREATED IT BY DISSECTING AND RE-PIECING TOGETHER A BUNCH OF ALREADY EXISTING SPIRITUAL LITERATURE FROM BABYLON AND SUMERIA, ETC., AND CREATED THE OLD TESTAMENT. THE NEW TESTAMENT WAS CREATED AS PROPAGANDA BY THE ROMAN GOVERNMENT. NEITHER ONE OF THEM WERE MEANT TO HOLD SPIRITUAL TRUTH, AND BOTH OF THEM WERE MEANT TO BE USED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS AND TO CON OTHERS BY PROSTITUTING SACRED SPIRITUAL THINGS FOR THE SELFISH GAIN OF THOSE DOING SO.
HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE REFRESHING TO STUDY THE DOGON RELIGION, WHICH HOLDS SO MUCH OF THE ORIGINAL TRUTH THAT HAS BEEN WARPED OR LOST BY THE MONKEY TELEPHONE GAME OVER TIME. EVEN WHEN PEOPLE HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS OF PRESERVING THE KNOWLEDGE, WHEN IT GETS PASSED DOWN BY WORD OF MOUTH ONE PERSON TO THE OTHER THROUGH TIME, INEVITABLY THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME VARIABLES FROM THE ORIGINAL.
ALSO, I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT VRITRA HIDING IN DANU IS LEBE INSIDE OF THE WOMB OF CREATION (KINGU IN THE ABZU OF TIAMAT) BEFORE BEING VOMITED OUT, WHICH LATER WAS REWRITTEN TO BE VRITRA SWALLOWING AND VOMITING OUT INDRA, A CHANGE PROBABLY BROUGHT ABOUT BY PURPOSEFUL REWRITING OF HISTORY TO SUIT THE INTERESTS OF THE SPECIFIC PARTIES THAT WROTE IT. AT ANY RATE, HERE ARE THE EXCERPTS, SO PLEASE ENJOY!
As told in the narration given to King Yudhishthira in the Mahabharata, Vritra was an asura created by the artisan god Tvashtri to avenge the killing of his son by Indra, known as Triśiras or Viśvarūpa. Vritra won the battle and swallowed Indra, but the other deities forced him to vomit Indra out. The battle continued and Indra was eventually forced to flee.
~Wikipedia~
During the sacrifice, the Master (Mistress) of Speech was tied to the kilena tree, with his/her arms being stretched across a fork in the tree. The kilena’s roots spread out in three directions and its two branches supported the pectoral fins of the Master (Mistress) of Speech. The Dogon said the kilena tree had the power to revive the dead.543 While she/he was tied to the kilena tree, the Master (Mistress) of Speech became thirsty and requested something to drink, so Amma gave her/him some water in a copper bowl. The Master (Mistress) of Speech drank too
much and vomited forth a “serpent of water” (diyuguru) into the bowl.544 “The Word uttered by the yuguru was to be the uguru of the universe.’”545 The word uguru meant “purification.” The snake vomited out into the copper bowl was the new creation and was identified with Lébé, the Eighth Ancestor, who was
supposed to be the first human born from the “Third Word,” or experiment. The “Word” uttered was the uguru, or the DNA of the universe.
~The Nummo, by Shannon Dorey~
Another interpretation of their name is associated with Danu's relationship with her first son (and demon), Vritra. In Indian mythology, in an attempt to deceive the Vedic god Indra, Vritra hides away in the primordial water or blessed water from him. In this myth, Danu herself is embodied as being the primordial water in which he hides in.
~Wikipedia~
He is also mentioned in ancient Indo-Iranian literature, but with a major inconsistency when contrasted with the Vedas. In the Vedic literature, Indra is a heroic god. In the Avestan (ancient, pre-Islamic Iranian) texts such as Vd. 10.9, Dk. 9.3 and Gbd 27.6-34.27, Indra – or accurately Andra[51] – is a gigantic demon who opposes truth.[41][g] In the Vedic texts, Indra kills the archenemy and demon Vritra who threatens mankind. In the Avestan texts, Vritra is not found.[51] ~Wikipedia~

What holidays are celebrated in runeterra? Your lore posts are amazing!
Mmmm, good question.
It obviously depends on the region. Like, in Noxus, for example, there is obviously a celebration for the foundation of the Empire (especially since it marks Year 0 of the calendar), but I don't think other regions would celebrate it, especially Ionia or their historical cold war enemies Demacia.
In fact, we can assume the foundation of the region is probably a generic festivity in most of them outside of Ionia (No central government to found), Targon (No central government to found) and Shadow Isles (Nothing to celebrate when you're undead).
For Pilltover we have Progress Day, as is shown in Arcane, to symbolise the birth of the city of progress. Zaun obviously doesn't follow this same festivity, and probably doesn't have much time for festivities as is, but I can see some days of mourning over the Tragedy of the River Pilt or Vander's failed Rebellion.
Given the Ionian influence from the recent influx of refugees I guess they probably celebrate the Spirit Blossom Festival, or at least if it's spread outside of the communities a Zaunite/Pilltovan version of it. The Spirit Blossom Festival is when the barrier between the mortal and spirit world is thinner, so there is the usual ancestor worship and all, mostly via folk tales of tragic stories and the spirits they left behind, which given the tragedies Zaun lives on a daily basis I feel would be pretty popular there once the Ionian refugees start introducing it.
She doesn't have an Official festivity unfortunately but I feel a Zaunite celebration day for Janna, their patron God/Saint, bringer of clean air, saviour of the oppressed, whose winds carry the sails and wings of the broken and the dreamers, would work well.
There is a Christmas analogue on Valorant (Northern Continent) which is yet another story about Frejlordan Folk Hero and living legend Braum, who therefore is compelled to act it out, of a burly, shirtless man wearing a Santa hat riding a sled filled with Poros and driven by Elnuks to bring presents in the coldest, darkest, longest night of the year. It's a relatively well known legend even outside of Frejlord since Veigar, Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain ruling over Boleham In a confederation of Buffer States between Demacia and Noxus, knows enough about the legend to send Santa Braum a letter demanding to be put on the Naughty List.
Most of Shurima's festivities would probably be less relevant for PnZ since as of Arcane most of the continent is still divided and isolated from the northern one. Same for Ixtal.
Solstices are of course celebrated among the Solari, and most of their festivities are used as propaganda and indoctrination tools. Two of note are the Festival of the Nightless Eye, which is the festival where Diana and Leona kissed for the first time, and the Monthly Solari Barbecues, Leona idea, during which grilled meat and propaganda pamphlets are given out in equal amounts.
In Bilgewater it's not celebrated as much as dreaded the Ruination, which is when the shackles that hold the dead of the Shadow Isles to their island lessen, and they can finally ride and sail out to plunder the nearest inhabited Island, which so happens to be Bilgewater's.
In the Shurima Empire there are probably 3 festivities, one of mourning for its fall, and two of celebration, one the traditional one for the implementation of the Sun Disk, and a newer one for its restoration. Solstices are, of course, also celebrated given the ancient ties between the Solari and Shurima.
Pride Month, which is fairly recent mind you since Tyiari ascended as an Aspect shortly before the Ruined King Invasion, is celebrated and dedicated to the Aspect of the Traveler, which guides everyone lost to their right path and is seen as a metaphor for the personal journey of self discovery, which does indeed help people find their orientation and gender identity and all. The Traveler herself being a Trans Woman also helps.
Let's see... Aside from other celebration/mourning anniversaries (IE, Avarosa's death on the Frejlord, Wrenwall Massacre in Demacia etc) and I think something to do with the Aspect of Justice in Demacia (Kinda remember something like that being mentioned in the Lux Comic) can't think of much else.

Marlene Dietrich (Shanghai Express, Witness for the Prosecution, Morocco)—Bisexual icon, super hot when dressed both masculine and feminine, lived up her life in the queer Berlin scene of the 1920s, central to the 'sewing circle' of the secret sapphic actresses of Old Hollywood, refused lucrative offers by the Nazis and helped Jews and others under persecution to escape Nazi Germany, the love of my life
Xia Meng, also known as Hsia Moog or Miranda Yang (Sunrise, Bride Hunter)—For those who are familiar with Hong Kong's early cinema, Xia Meng is THE leading woman of an era, the earliest "silver-screen goddess", "The Great Beauty" and "Audrey Hepburn of the East".
This is round 5 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

ms dietrich....ms dietrich pls.....sit on my face
its marlene dietrich!!!! queer legend, easily the hottest person to ever wear a tuxedo, that hot hot voice, those glamorous glamorous movies…. most famously she starred in a string of movies directed by josef von sternberg throughout the 1930s, beginning with the blue angel which catapulted her to stardom in the role of the cabaret singer lola lola. known for his exquisite eye for lighting, texture, imagery, von sternberg devoted himself over the course of their collaborations to acquiring exceptional skill at photographing dietrich herself in particular, a worthy direction in which to expend effort im sure we can all agree. she collaborated with many other great directors of the era as well, including rouben mamoulian (song of songs), frank borzage (desire), ernst lubitsch (angel), fritz lang (rancho notorious), and billy wilder (witness for the prosecution). the encyclopedia britannica entry im looking at while compiling this propaganda describes her as having an “aura of sophistication and languid sexuality” which✔️💯. born marie magdalene dietrich, she combined her first and middle names to coin the moniker “marlene”. she was a trendsetter in her incorporation of trousers, suits, and menswear into her wardrobe and her androgynous allure was often remarked upon. critic kenneth tynan wrote, “She has sex, but no particular gender. She has the bearing of a man; the characters she plays love power and wear trousers. Her masculinity appeals to women and her sexuality to men.” in the 1920s she enjoyed the vibrant queer nightlife of weimar berlin, visiting gay bars and drag balls, and in hollywood her love affairs with men and women were an open secret. she was an ardent opponent of nazi germany, refusing lucrative contacts offered her to make films there, raising money with billy wilder to help jews and dissidents escape, and undertaking extensive USO tours to entertain soldiers with an act that included her a playing musical saw and doing a mindreading routine she learned from orson welles. starting in the 50s and continuing into the mid-70s she worked largely as a cabaret artist touring the world to large audiences, employing burt bacharach as her musical arranger.
Tumblr media
First of all, there are those publicity photos of her in a tux. Second of all, I have never been the same since knowing that she sent copies of those photos to her Berlin lovers signed "Daddy Marlene." Not only is she hot in all circumstances, but she can do everything from earthy to ice queen. Also, she kept getting sexy romantic lead parts in Hollywood after the age of 40, which would be rare even now. She hated Nazis, loved her friends, and had a sapphic social circle in Hollywood. She also had cheekbones that could cut glass and a voice that could melt you.
Tumblr media
Her GENDER her looks her voice her everything
Tumblr media
“In her films and record-breaking cabaret performances, Miss Dietrich artfully projected cool sophistication, self-mockery and infinite experience. Her sexuality was audacious, her wit was insolent and her manner was ageless. With a world-weary charm and a diaphanous gown showing off her celebrated legs, she was the quintessential cabaret entertainer of Weimar-era Germany.”
Tumblr media
The bar scene in Morocco awoke something in me and ultimately changed my gender
youtube
"Her manner, the critic Kenneth Tynan wrote, was that of ‘a serpentine lasso whereby her voice casually winds itself around our most vulnerable fantasies.’ Her friend Maurice Chevalier said: ‘Dietrich is something that never existed before and may never exist again.’”
Tumblr media
"Songstress, photographer, fashion icon, out bisexual phenom (notoriously stole Lupe Velez and Joan Crawford's men, and Errol Flynn's wife, had a torrid affair with Greta Garbo that ended in a 60-year feud, other notable conquests including Erich Maria Remarque -yes, the guy who wrote All Quiet on the Western Front- Douglas Fairbanks Junior, Claudette Colbert, Mercedes de Acosta, Edith Piaf), anti-Nazi activist. Marlene was a bitch - she had an open marriage for decades and one of her favorite things was making catty commentary about her current lover with her husband, and her relationship with her daughter was painful- but she was also immensely talented, a hard worker, an opponent of fascism and the hottest ice queen in Hollywood for a long time."
youtube
"She can sing! She can act! She told the Nazis to fuck off and became a US citizen out of spite! She worked with other German exiles to create a fund to help Jews and German dissidents escape (she donated an entire movie salary, about $450k, to the cause). She looks REALLY GOOD in a suit. If you're not convinced, please listen to her sing "Lili Marlene". Absolutely gorgeous woman with a gorgeous voice."

Hearst and Disney
The Hearst family are one of the most evil bloodlines in the United States and they work closely with the Disney family. They have Irish ancestry and they covertly work with the Irish Mafia and Kennedy family as well as the Irish McMahon family. The Hearsts are worth 28 billion and they own Hearst Communications with ESPN, Lifetime and A&E which includes the History Channel. They share ownership over ESPN with the Disney Company. The Disney family are also an Irish bloodline. The Disneys migrated to Ireland from Isigny, France. Roy E. Disney was a Vatican Knight of the Order of Saint Gregory. The Hearsts also own Viceland and employ the Albanian-Jewish-Aryan mobster and gangster rapper Action Bronson who is a ruthless and sadistic psychopath. Action Bronson's real name is Ariyan Arslani. Ireland is Aryland and was settled by Aryans which tend to have red hair. Moses Annenberg was a 1930's Jewish mobster that worked for the Hearst Corporation and was convicted of tax evasion. The Hearsts spread insane propaganda on the History channel like their show Ancient Aliens. They are brainwashers. The Disneys are also involved in brainwashing children with sex programming as well as brainwashing society into thinking that royalty are normal and special. Disney runs MK Ultra ritual sex programming on children and especially on young girls. Some members of the Disneys today include Timothy Disney, Roy Patrick Disney, Abigail Disney, and Susan Disney Lord. The Disneys control Shamrock Holdings which owns hotels, television shows, radio stations. They also manage the investment firms Shamrock Capital Advisers and Shamrock Activist Value Fund. Realistically the Disneys are probably worth several billion. Their Shamrock companies is in reference to the Disney's Irish ancestry. The shamrock is frequently used as a symbol for the Irish Mafia and Aryan Brotherhood gangs. The Disneys and the Hearsts work with the Irish Mafia and Aryan Brotherhood.
The name Hearst refers to a hearse which carries a casket. Their ancestors name was originally Hearse. They are covert members of the Skull and Bones death cult and the Hell Fire Club which was founded in Ireland. The Hearsts and Disneys are both British Crown agents and Vatican agents. William Randolph Hearst the founder of this family went to Harvard a university created by the British Crown. His son Randolph Apperson Hearst also went to Harvard. There are about 65 members of the Hearst family today which share the 28 billion. George Randolph Hearst III is a current member of this family and the publisher of the Times Union newspaper. William Randolph Hearst II is another current member of this family and he was Jesuit educated at the University of San Francisco. Patty Hearst is a member of this family who carried out an armed robbery on a bank which seemed to do for her entertainment since the family is worth tens of billions. She was convicted of the bank robbery and then Jimmy Carter pardoned her because billionaires get special treatment. Her sister Anne Hearst is a member of this family and she was Jesuit educated at Regis College in Denver. Amanda Hearst went to the Jesuit's Boston College and later to Jesuit Fordham. Stephen Thompson Hearst is a member of this family. The Hearsts are also ruthlessly evil and are involved in financing relentless gang stalking and murder. A sadist named Christine Gomez-Martello works for the Hearst family and their A&E Networks. She is psychotic and is a gang stalker. The wrestler Paul Michael Levesque calls himself Triple H for Hunter Hearst Helmsley naming himself after them. Triple H who married into the billionaire McMahon family is a psychopath and involved with human trafficking, steroid trafficking, and blood trafficking. John Augustine Hearst or "Austin" Hearst is a leading member of the family today and a top executive for Hearst and the founder and CEO of the real estate firm Chestnut Holdings.
The Disneys are agents of the Vatican and British Crown which is why Roy E Disney was a Vatican knight. Disney is known for putting sexual innuendos into its kids movies. The Disney Channel also uses MK ultra sex programming on young girls.

2021 Reading Log, pt 27
Not a dud among this batch. The weakest was probably The Sky Atlas, but that’s a relative thing; I’d say it’s still a 4/5 book if I was giving these star ratings.
Tumblr media
131. Strongmen by Ruth Ben-Ghiat. This book divides the strongmen of the modern era into three chronological categories: the original fascists and pseudo-fascists (Mussolini, Hitler, Franco), the military strongmen of the post-colonial era (Idi Amin, Mbotu, Gaddafi, Pinochet) and the modern elected strongmen (Berlusconi, Putin, Trump). The book does a good job of illustrating common threads between these various autocrats, highlighting the culture of masculine virility and victimhood all of them used to obtain power and the violence, corruption and propaganda they used to cement their power. The book is written by an expert on Mussolini, and Italy plays a major role, in the direct figures of Mussolini and Berlusconi, the parallels and copying of these figures, and the specter of Italian colonialism that fueled Gaddafi’s dictatorship. The book was released in late 2020, and both the introduction and conclusion stress the need to deplatform Trump before he seizes more authority and gives examples from history of how to do it.
Tumblr media
132. The Sky Atlas by Edward Brooke-Hitching. This is a book on astronomy and astrology, namely how different peoples have viewed the cosmos over history and showing replications of star charts, sky maps, and depictions of astronomical phenomena. The book is very pretty. One thing I found especially interesting is that it covers the “also-ran” models of early scientific thought, trying to reconcile ancient Greek ideas with current observations. For example, Tycho Brahe thought that the Sun orbited the Earth, but that the planets orbited the sun, and Kepler’s first model confined the planets to cages shaped like the Platonic solids. Weird stuff, which gets often neglected in the depiction of the history of science as a linear progression.
Tumblr media
133. The Unidentified by Colin Dickey. Another contender for the best book I’ve read this year. If you have any interest in the paranormal, cryptozoology, UFOs or the like, you owe it to yourself to read this book. Dickey goes through the history of longstanding paranormal beliefs rapidly but thoroughly, discussing how they are a response to the modern scientific age and the disenchantment of the world. He talks about individual cases of how one person’s ideas spread far beyond them and their origins obscured. Dickey is open-minded—he acknowledges that genuine mysteries do exist, and is favorably disposed to a Fortean mindset—but he also is clear about how dogmatism and conspiracy can bleed into people who see themselves as opposed to the mainstream. He is also not shy about highlighting how white supremacy colors (or fuels) a wide variety of paranormal beliefs. The book’s bibliography is full of books I need to now track down and read, and I look forward to going down that rabbit hole.
Tumblr media
134. Veritas by Ariel Sabar. This is the story of a papyrus fragment provocatively titled “The Gospel of Jesus’ Wife”, the professor who endorsed and promoted it, and the forger who made it. It’s also rather bigger than that, extending into philosophy of science and the inner machinations of Harvard’s colleges (hence the title; “Veritas” is Harvard’s motto, meaning “Truth”). The book does an excellent job of making a news story feel like a narrative, with character development and twists and turns. This book is recommended for fans of investigative journalism and true crime, especially for people who like the solving mysteries and following leads aspect without the violence. There is, however, a discussion of child sexual abuse, so trigger warning for that.
Tumblr media
135. Eye of the Shoal by Helen Scales. How’s that for a name for an author writing about fish? Scales clearly loves her subject, and this book is a good overview of ichthyology for a general audience. It discusses the author’s personal experiences, but not so much as to make it a memoir/science book (which I appreciated). Chapters cover topics like fish evolution, bioluminescence and fluorescence, fish vocalization and cognition. Each chapter has an illustrated frontispiece and a myth or legend about fish from around the world, giving it a very retro vibe despite the modern science.

I personally believe that Rome is The Worst not only because of what happened to it in general, but because it's a magic radiation zone that's still leaking magic after all those years. it might be due to whatever Meritocrats have done to the city, a backfire of a ritual made by whatever remnants of Cult of Pluto/Hades were there, making some merit to the propaganda Meritocrats pushed onto their population, or mayhaps something entirely different! but that is not the point of the post; it is, however, related to how people migrated from the ruins of Rome, and, specifically, where did Sasha LOLOMG Whosaskinus ended up with her kids, villa, and progenitors for the modern Harlequins.
so, in the small research I’ve done, I think that Sasha, following the path out of Rome went Northwest through Vatican hill/Necropolis (due to how it’s mentioned by Alex that Cicero and her are moving towards a necropolis), settled somewhere in/near Rusellae, considering it has:
a temple dedicated to Diana Umbronesis, or, if we transform it into Hellenic form, Artemis, with a title connected to the Umbra river and the previous settlements/people, but one could also stretch as the "One who brings Shadow" (Umbra meaning shadow, shade, and -nesis probably stemming from Genesis, origin, birth), and also that region is close to the ancient Sabinum, from where Ops originated as a Roman goddess;
is mentioned in Cicero's Pro Milone, not by its name but by nearby locations, such as Truscan Maremma (where Rusellae is located) and was forcing the officials to do something with stagnant waters in the area;
EELS!! THAT AREA HAD SO MANY EELS!!
and in the time that followed, since Rusellae is technically still pretty close to Rome, the people who have descended from original Ava Husaskinus kids might've migrated towards Saena and other settlements nearby, and later on could’ve spread across Northern Tuscany and further North.
tl;dr I think that Sasha’s villa would’ve been located near Rusellae, and that many more people survived Rome’s fall to populate at least Tuscany and nearby areas; after all, Rome wasn’t as destroyed as we think, and many things and people made it out.

I’m suffering from Insane Roman Thoughts disease today so I had to share!!
I’ve been thinking about the siblings’ names and it has come to me that Caroline chose Roman’s name and it’s the only child she got to name. Siobhan (and Connor) is famously an Irish name so safe to assume Logan chose it and very much wouldn’t let Caroline or anyone else meddle in his naming his first (and only) daughter. Kendall is Welsh in origin and I do not see an English aristocrat in the 80’s naming her firstborn anything other than some strong proud traditional english name with Old Germanic roots like Henry or William, so Logan again probably chose it and without her input especially as Kendall was then his new number one boy.
And then there’s Roman. Obviously an old Latin name that immediately invokes that ancient powerful empire upon which all other great European empires have been built. Aka the perfect name for Caroline’s last baby (yes I am spreading my Roman is the youngest propaganda). By then Logan had quite frankly grown bored with both having new kids and Caroline herself so he barely cared what the boy would be called and left it to her to pick a name.
Which is one of the reasons Caroline is so close to Roman, or more precisely, there is less distance between them than between her and her other children. And also why Logan so rarely calls him Roman and does it almost exclusively when angry - it’s not a name of his choosing.
What does it all mean??? No idea but it makes me crazy
OH I LOVE THISSSSSSSS also it's so funny you sent this to me now bc i was literally just editing part of my fic that talks about caroline naming roman (middle names, but. technicalities.)

i fully agree logan named both kendall and shiv (i think shiv's middle name is rose) and it's part of why caroline looks at them and thinks of them as mostly their father's, so this actually fits so so well with the mummy's boy roman agenda.
