Eiji: "What was that?.."

???: Now, now, calm down. I know that you're one of the scariest guards we've had, but at least try to act a bit more chill this time.

Eiji: .. "We"?

Eiji: W-wait, who am I even talking to?

???: .. Did you not notice me yet?

Jackalope: I've been watching you two all this time.

Eiji: .. H-how?

Eiji: No, like, how can you..

Eiji: How can you even talk?

Jackalope: Now, I understand that you have a lot of questions and you will get answers to them eventually..

Jackalope: But listen, appearing like this wasn't really a part of my plan either. I have a reason to come and talk to you in person like this.

Jackalope: If it wasn't for one small thing, I would just continue to study you two, it's so entertaining to watch you and Guard 002, haha..

Jackalope: Ahem. But anyway, we do have something important to talk about. You might want to sit down for this one.

[Eiji sits down]

Jackalope: Perfect.

Jackalope: Now, Eiji, so you understand how Milgram works, right?

Eiji: We interrogate the prisoners, we extract their videos, we watch them.. and then we judge them.

Eiji: That's.. all we have to do.

Jackalope: Haha, really? Is that all?

Jackalope: I'm sure you understand that the guards have to do much, much more than that.

Eiji: I mean..

Eiji: It's not like I want to do it, but I have to cook for them and also, um..

Jackalope: Eiji, you know I mean something else.

Jackalope: You know, like making sure the prisoners don't die before their final verdict.

Eiji: !

Jackalope: Oh well, if they die, I guess it cannot be helped-

Eiji: .. W-what do you mean by that?

Eiji: How.. how much do you actually know?

Jackalope: Well, I know everything about those recent incidents.

Jackalope: One of the prisoners has tried to injure the two other prisoners, who are also some of the most vulnerable ones here.

Jackalope: One prisoner is now trying to do literally anything to make others pay attention to him, which doesn't always end well.

Jackalope: And there also was a prisoner who tried to kill himself-

Eiji: ENOUGH!

Eiji: I.. Now I understand.

Eiji: You really do know everything.

Jackalope: Haha, of course I do. Now, I'll just get straight to the point.

Jackalope: Eiji, you remember how the trial system works, right?

Eiji: Me and Guard 002 have to discuss everyone's crimes and we have to make a decision about their verdict.

Jackalope: And would you say it's hard to make those decisions?

Eiji: .. Why don't you tell me that yourself if you've been watching us all this time?

Jackalope: Wow, look at you, acting so brave already!

Jackalope: I thought you had more respect for this place.

Eiji: .. Sorry.

Eiji: It is.. hard. Me and Guard 002 have completely different opinions and values, she thinks we should forgive all the prisoners and their crimes don't matter, meanwhile I think they all deserve to die for their sins.

Eiji: So.. we often end up arguing because of that.

Jackalope: Can you say that the first trial has been stressful for you?

Eiji: .. Well, it's only the first trial, so it's natural that we're only getting used to this-

Jackalope: It takes a lot of time to come to the same conclusion, doesn't it?

Jackalope: You want to punish all the prisoners here, meanwhile Guard 002 wants to forgive them. You two couldn't be any more different than this.

Eiji: .. Yes, I don't agree with her opinion most of the time, but I still think she deserves to be a guard. She has a reason to forgive them and when she explains it, she's able to convince even someone like me that these murderers deserve a second chance.

Jackalope: Judging by the results of the first trial, one might say that she's too good at it.

Eiji: .. Of course, you know about that too, don't you?

Jackalope: I have to say, these results have.. surprised me a bit.

Jackalope: All of these people are murderers and some of them committed the worst and scariest crimes you can ever imagine, but..

Jackalope: Most of them have been voted innocent. Actually, all but three of them were forgiven.

Jackalope: I guess Guard 002 really is good at her job, isn't she?

Eiji: Are you.. disappointed?

Eiji: I promise I will be more strict with them this time. I won't hold back. I will make sure everyone gets the punishment that they deserve-

Jackalope: I'm not here to tell you what's good and what's bad to do.

Jackalope: You can judge them in any way you want, I couldn't care less. You can vote all of them innocent or you can vote all of them guilty if you want. You don't even have to judge them based on your morals or whatever. Or you can vote them based on that, if you want.

Jackalope: Also, who am I to tell you to stop agreeing with a pretty girl all the time?

Jackalope: But again, you two are completely different people which makes this whole voting process a unique and interesting experience, but also..

Jackalope: Would you say that this voting system is flawed?

Eiji: ...

Eiji: N-no, of course not..

Jackalope: You deserve to be praised for being so loyal to this place, haha.

Jackalope: And yes, I think making two guards judge a prisoner can actually be better than just making one person choose.

Jackalope: What if that person is a coward who's too afraid of making any decisions? What if that person doesn't want to take that responsibilty? What if they just refuse to vote?

Eiji: Actually.. what happens if you refuse to vote?

Jackalope: Anyway, I'm sure you two have thought at least once about just.. not agreeing with each other and not wanting to change your mind.

Eiji: .. I guess so, yes.

Jackalope: So, Eiji, can you tell me what happens when two people can't come to the same conclusion at all and they just can't make a decision?

Eiji: Wait, but what if we just.. vote the way that we want to vote? What if Guard 002 votes someone innocent, while I vote that person guilty? What happens next?

Jackalope: *sighs*

Jackalope: Can you not answer my question with another question?

Eiji: Oh, sorry.

Eiji: I guess.. They try to find a compromise in some way?

Jackalope: But what if they can't do that? I don't think you can do something like that so easily when you have to decide whether you want to forgive or punish a murderer.

Eiji: I..

Eiji: Well, I don't know. That will probably end with a fight.

Jackalope: Hm, so your mind immediately jumped to that, huh..

Jackalope: Is it because you're used to solving problems that way?

Eiji: Um..

Jackalope: Well, I don't care about your backstory, so let me just answer the question myself.

Jackalope: When two people can't make a decision and almost end up arguing because of that..

Jackalope: They might want to ask someone for a third opinion.

Eiji: ...

Eiji: Huh?

Jackalope: You know, maybe they will just ask their friend to help them out or maybe they will ask a random person what they would do in their situation.

Jackalope: Maybe that person will have a completely different opinion, but they can still be able to guide those two and give them some advice.

Jackalope: Or, well, at least they can just be there to make sure there won't be something like a 50/50 result.

Jackalope: .. Hey, are you okay? You seem kinda pale.

Eiji: .. What does that mean?

Eiji: .. Does that mean you're hiding someone's family member here? If it has to be someone's sibling..

Eiji: Wait.. I remember. Prisoner 002 has an older brother, Prisoner 004 has an older brother and a younger sister, Prisoner 006 has a younger brother, Prisoner 009 has an older brother and two younger sisters and Prisoner 010 has a younger brother.

Eiji: If you're hiding someone's sibling, it has to be-

Jackalope: Eiji. Does this mean that you don't want to do all of this anymore?

Jackalope: Does this mean you don't want to be a guard anymore?

Jackalope: Do you really want to let Guard 002 forgive your brother like that?

Eiji: ...

Jackalope: Listen, I also wasn't a fan of this whole concept of "choosing the prisoners' siblings as the guards". Doesn't that sound like a cheap plot twist? What, is this some kind of drama?

Jackalope: But eh, I went along with it.

Eiji: .. I'm sorry.

Eiji: I'm sorry, I really do have a lot of respect for this place and if I could, I would stay here so that I can judge even more prisoners.

Eiji: It's just..

Eiji: Making two people with completely different opinions judge someone, choosing people who are related to the prisoners to be the guards, saying that if we can't make a decision, there will be a third person to help us so that the prisoners can be properly judged..

Eiji: .. All of this doesn't sound like a normal trial.

Eiji: It's like.. a game. It's like someone is playing a game and they want to see just what exactly they can do while playing it. It's like they want to see just how many possibilities this game has.

Eiji: So they start.. experimenting with it, basically.

Eiji: And if I want to punish everyone so badly and I get annoyed when I see how many prisoners have been voted innocent and I want to convince Guard 002 that I'm right and she's wrong..

Eiji: .. Doesn't that mean that I've fallen right into some kind of trap? Doesn't that mean that I'm just a character in that game and I'm getting ordered around, but I don't even notice it?

I would love to see the breakdown of Arsay’s timeline through the expansions!!!

WEEEEELLLL if you insist... My basic timeline break down is as follows: Keep in mind a few things are still kinda in flux, and if I ever contradict myself in the future literally don't worry about it

1.0 -> Calamity 6 months End point in the 4th umbral moon lining up with what is now the rising event (calamity memorial). Now that I’ve switched up arsay’s birthday, she turns 22 during the 1.0 campaign.

Calamity -> ARR 5 Years Arsay is stuck in the lifestream with the mother crystal for that 5 year period. Her memories of 1.0 and everyone's memories of her are largely erased. Arsay wakes up on a boat to Limsa Lominsa believing it is still her first voyage to Eorzea.

ARR->HVW ~6 months The base story including job quests take 3 months in total. The next three months are dedicated to the patches: Primal Trial series -> Coils of Bahamut -> 2.1. ~3 weeks Crystal Tower Raids, LoTA -> Syrcus Tower ~1 month 2.2-2.3 -> Crystal Tower Raid WoD ~2 weeks 2.4->2.55 ~3 weeks

HVW->STB ~4 months Main story starts a day or two after 2.55 and takes ~1 month total Patches take ~3 Months: 3.1->3.2->Void Arc ~1 month ->Arsay gets really into pvp and does nothing but frontlines and CC for a week -> 3.3->Alexander Raids->3.4 ~3 weeks Warring Triad->3.5->3.56 ~1 month

STB->SHB ~6 months Main story picks up a week after 3.56 and takes ~3 months time. (The first trip to Kugane takes 3 weeks off screen, after that travel time is reduced to a few days to a week using the East Aldenard Trading company boats (it would make sense that lolorito has better boat tech imo)) Next 3 month period is all the patches: Ivalice raids->Omega raids->4.1-4.2 ~1 month Eureka exploration->4.3->4 lords ~1.5 months 4.4->4.56 ~2 weeks

I know the ARR to Shadowbringers lead up is a mad dash but if it happened any slower, I don't believe Arsay would have be the character she is by that point. It is incredibly vital that she has almost 0 down time for herself. Her days and nights are PACKED full by choice. Job Quests, Hildebrand stuff,PvP, Hunts all get squeezed in throughout.

SHB->EDW ~8 months Main story picks up a few days after 4.56 and takes only 1.5 months to complete. Its a non stop emotional roller coaster for Arsay to be completely fine and normal about the whole time. Patches take 6.5 months, notably there is more downtime between patches: Chill relaxing after 5.0->Eden I->5.1->Neir raid I ->5.2-> role quest/shadowkeeper->Eden II-> 5.3 ->chill relaxing/recovery time for scions->Eden III->Neir raids II & III->Werlyt->Bozjia->5.4-5.55

EDW->DWT ~1 year (time spent in Elpis is not counted) ->Main story up to credit roll ~1 month ->Recovery time for injuries sustained in Ultima Thul ~4 months ->After credits - Scions Disband, everyone goes their separate ways - 1 day 🙃 ->Rest of the roll quests now that Arsay can mostly fight again(she can't cast mudras😞 ) ~1 month (casting>healing>tanking>aiming>bonus all role cap off) -> 1 month of nothing to do, Arsay still can't cast mudras, character development dictates she can no longer repress every bad emotion she feels, she has no proper coping mechanisms and quickly spirals into a mental breakdown over feeling like she's worthless and that no one will need her anymore now that the world isnt ending constantly and that she's worried without the scions being the scions everyone she cares about will slowly forget her and she'll be all alone again. Y'shtola and G'raha manage to get Arsay talking after a bit of self destructive lashing out. Things are sorta resolved?? Y'shtola and G'raha reassure her of a lot, and do their best to get it in her little kittycat head that she's not a burden on them even when she's sad. Not an automatic fix but Arsay does make the commitment to better her mental health and to work on her self image issues and communication skills! It'll be a process for her. ->5 days round trip to her home island in the southern seas to visit her Aunt and catch up ->6.1 starts when Arsay gets back from that ->Endwalker patch content takes up the final 5 months of that year period. Things are mostly interspersed with how they are released except for pandae which happens all in one go for Arsay between 6.3 and 6.4. Arsay has done all the variant dungeons, Tataru's grand endeavours, completed Island Sanctuary, and Myths of the Realm. ->The gap between 6.55 and 7.0 will probably only be about a week? Maybe 2? It depends how much it seems like the early arrivals to Tural have been there compared to Arsay and her crew.

“Lijah?” you call out in the dead of night. This has been the second night you haven't heard from him, the second night in a row you haven’t felt his warmth or…chilled touch. None the less you were getting fed up, so you grab your phone off your nightstand to call him for what seemed like the 100th time. “You’ve reached the voicemail box of-” the familiar voice sounds “god damn it Lijah” you Growl. For all you know he could be dead in a ditch somewhere, as you were in your head about what could've happened to your boyfriend a raspy voice pulls you from your thoughts. “Sweetheart?” Elijah calls out “Lijah” you sigh walking over to him. “I missed you..” he trails off “i've missed you too. Let me guess you’re gonna take a shower then head out again.” you say dryly against his chest “no i'm gonna stay” Elijah says getting undressed “you comin?” he asks walking into the bathroom “no i already showered you go ahead” you say silently.

 “You’ve been gone a lot lately, days on end dealing with god knows what and..i just wanted to know if you were still interested in me? Is it something i-” he cuts you off by his lips on yours “oh my..i'm so sorry my love, it was never ever my intention to make you feel this way. It was family issues and it’s completely my fault for not contacting you sooner” he says “how about tomorrow night..you. Me date night?” he asks “sure.” you say as you lay back down “thank you for telling me how you feel, i appreciate it” he says quietly as you both fall asleep in eachothers arms.

I'm home” you say as you see Elijah in all his glory. Decked out in his button down and slacks and to give his outfit a touch of you, he wore your frilly pink apron that had the words ``kisses for the misses” stitched on the front in big letters “hello my love welcome home..how was work?” he asks as he kisses you “it was good stressful but good” you smile taking off your clothes and walking upstairs to get comfy “well the foods almost done so take your time” he smiles. Sometime after you guys eat and get comfy on the couch, you both decided to watch the kissing booth for the 50th time. “I swear we’ve watched this movie more times than I can count” he chuckles as you snuggle up into him with the blanket “it's a good movie in my defense” you smile as the movie starts.

I'm sorry for making you feel neglected while I was busy. I hope I can make it up to you starting with this” he says with sincerity. “Of Course i get it. You were busy. Okay, I finished The Final Horizon. Spoilers following.

Thoughts specific to the stuff I didn't mention yesterday are that the final tower climb was a lil bit easier than I expected given how much time I spent on one of the ones before it, but still good stuff. The final trial is very mediocre. I think a boss rush kinda just feels shitty to have in the main game knowing that like 2 updates ago we already added a boss rush mode to begin with. The extra stipulations to make it more challenging are certainly something - you have a fully level 1 Sonic who can't get rings back and whose ring count carries over between fights, so you're on a timer for all 400 of those rings to do three titans in a row, even cylooping doesn't give you more. That part's neat, adds a lot of tension and asks that you're able to take these bosses out efficiently. The shit part is that they changed how the parry worked to give Sonic the "perfect parry", which is a linear downgrade from the normal parry lmao. Way it works is it's the parry but you need to time it. On paper a good thing! In the first place the parry window being uhhhhhh infinite was criticised quite a bit at release, and they've found a roundabout way to address it in this update. But that brings the obvious problem of now you've got to time a parry that you have never practiced with, and your training room are boss fights with a lengthy restart period if you fail, and that's coupled with the fact that the boss hitboxes really don't match their animations well at all. So the perfect parry - instead of bandaging the parry problems - just rubs salt in the wound instead. Ouch.

Once you've done that tower climb and trial, you get to go for the final boss - a fight against regular Supreme from the regular vanilla game. Very much of two minds about this because of how The Final Horizon's content is implemented into the game to begin with. Since it's just a portal on Ouranos that takes you to Ouranos but we're doing this story instead on an optional save file and stuff, it makes sense to have the exact same Supreme fight since like holistically if someone is playing the complete version of the game for their first time then hey they should see this fight, right? But on the other hand what this means is if you either beat the game before this update, or if you're playing it for the first time now and decide to go for I suppose both endings, you will at two different points in the story have to do the same Supreme fight. Feels bizarre. Also strange thing but base The End, if you fail you just start at the start of that fight, but in The Final Horizon if you fail that new version of The End you gotta refight Supreme. That's tedious and inconsistent, not really a fan.

As for the new fight against The End, it's another thing I'm of two minds about, although I'm leaning more positive probably. The goods are the setpiece elements of this - cool as absolute fuck and I guess Cyber Super Sonic or whatever it officially ends up being called? Shit's fucking awesome, plays mostly the same but dude his attack animations are so over the top shounen badass and he does awesome poses and like shot of the back while one eye looks down at the camera, I felt like I was watching Nazo Unleashed for the first time again. Moreover the nature of this take on the story is such that every other character is significantly involved and gets to do a lot more, even if they are still ultimately spectators but like hey they're more there than they were before. Also just as a game design thing, hey it's another Super Sonic fight. Awesome. This is a long established formula within the game by now and it's far more logical to end the game on than a schmup out of largely nowhere. Good improvement. The bad though is kinda twofold. For one we're doubling down on perfect parry, which like hey technically they've introduced it to us by now so it's less of a jumpscare, buuut it's still shitty and the animations don't feel like they match up and it's just a bizarre difficulty spike in control that would really need a ground-up different approach to really fix. The other thing is I think this fight has like, pretty bad conveyance, I guess? You're told quite directly that "attacking The End head-on won't work, find something else to do", but that feels like a bizarre thing to ask of the player when they're by now already conditioned towards "super sonic = press attack buttons". Moreover the cyloop just never seems to really accomplish anything either. See what you actually need to do is attack higher up on Supreme End's body and then do specifically a quick cyloop - at which point you can deal damage. From here you do uhhhh, I don't really know? I kinda just did stuff until it was over and wasn't really confident until I hit a quicktime event. Was that fade to black a quick time event animation? Did I die? Is the fight about to be over? I never really felt like I knew. I think the fight is a cooler setpiece than vanilla The End and certainly the game "earns it more" but it seems like regardless of which one you do, the final boss of Sonic Frontiers is just kinda shitty lol.

Was a bit disappointed to see that on completing the file, you don't get to take the new playable characters back to old islands or use them in Cyberspace. Would just be a really fun and rewarding thing is all. As it stands you can use them in the same Ouranos island you can already use them in by going to a character swapper that's pretty far away from lots of stuff on the map. One of those things where I suppose implementing them into the rest of the game is a tall order, but it is a bit sad is all. Unless this is some reward for finishing all the new cyberspace levels which uhhhh I still haven't done lol. They're fuckin hard okay!!!

Overall though, I think Final Horizon is interesting - largely good (last post goes into more of the detail surrounding that), but it will change the overall conversation surrounding Frontiers quite a bit. I think updates 1 and 2 did great legwork to making Frontiers feel a lot more "complete" as a game, whereas Final Horizon kinda feels like a more standalone expansion that's perhaps so standalone that suddenly the game feels actually less complete. Like by itself this needs more updates to fit in with the rest of the game better, or something. Put another way, updates 1 and 2 are linear upgrades to base Frontiers, while Final Horizon is a good-to-mixed addition to a game that hey, tbf, was already good-to-mixed anyway, right? Hope that makes sense lol.

But I think more than anything else though I can't help but respect the hell out of this update existing. Kishimoto and the team actually taking feedback, addressing complaints, and adding new stuff to the game for fucking free is insane in this day and age, even comparing it to other Sonic titles like Origins Plus or Superstars with digital deluxe and preorder and retailer exclusive downloads and shit. The precedent that these updates set for future Sonic titles as well is also insanely exciting - lots of Frontiers' problems were addressed across the updates anyway, with some of the core fundamental parts already in the game being left as is by necessity (I'm talking like lots of the puzzle design and stuff). I think if Frontiers is to be seen as a stepping stone towards something greater then these updates really will help along that journey. And it downright goes without saying, but holy shit I'm so glad to see solo sonica die. Tails and Knuckles are back, and even Amy is on the core team. I don't strictly think every game going forward needs these exact playable characters in this exact playstyle but the general idea of how they play and how they feel compared to Sonic is perfect - that's what I want more of going forward. Perhaps in the long term this'll make Frontiers somewhat eclipsed by its successors - a game that's spoken about for what future titles did based off of it, rather than getting to fully stand on its own years down the line. There's an insanely complicated conversation to be had about that subject, and about making games for that purpose, but for a series like Sonic I think that's a worthwhile thing to aim to be and if the experiment pays off then hey, shit's all the greater.

For now though, I need to work on those cyberspace stages lmao.

AND THEN I ERASE THE LINES AS I GO HAHA. So there's no real record of my original outlines oops. So tbh I don't remember allllll the details but I do have a couple clues from DMs with my TTSR cheerleader:

Basically, like, in the first aid/aftercare area of the chapter I was gonna have Keith in like COMPLETE hysterics hahahaha but I'm kind of a slow writer so idk the trials part of the chapter took WEEKS to write so like. It's hard for me sometimes because in my mind I feel like "I've been staring at this scene for weeks and it's getting boring" without remembering that it would take like, idk 10 minutes to read? I get very worried that my fics are long and boring LOL. But like working on the trial for weeks where it was like so dismal and violent and dark, I think it MAKES SENSE that someone would be in hysterics, but I also felt like.!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted the sex at the end of the chapter to be like quiet and intimate but for Keith to be really shut down and uncomfortable afterwards, and I wanted him to pull away and have walls up. Like to be in hysterics, then to have sex, then to calm down and be really embarrassed that he was in hysterics in the first place, and get freaked out that they're being too intimate.

But it feels like at a certain point I'm not trying to like slow burn or drag the story out FOR THE SAKE OF DRAGGING IT OUT, I don't want to include those things if they feel gratuitous. Does that make sense? Because I've read some bad slow burns where I felt like the author was being purposefully verbose to inflate the word count so that you FEEL SLOW BURNED by the slog of words but not necessarily by what's happening in the story? To me, slow burning is about what the characters are DOING and what's happening and how everyone feels, not strictly about making people sit through 100k of build up. You can slow burn someone in 3k if you're purposeful! So like without my original notes anymore what I do remember is

Keith was going to be in COMPLETE hysterics. The notes probably were like "Keith comes out of the trial puking and has a huge meltdown" and when you write notes it feels kinds harmless but then when you write like idk 15k about the trials suddenly it's like "a huge meltdown" feels like Too Much.

Shiro drugging him wasn't in the original outline; this was my excuse to get him calm and loopy instead of having a metldown.

I felt like Keith emotionally shutting down during sex at the end was going to be TOO MUCH so I let Shiro take care of him a little more. A compromise was that I added that he COULDNT COME LOL I just thought it would like still give me an excuse to have him be frustrated/burnt out/whumpy but without pushing it so hard. (Of course Shiro figures out a way to get him off anyway because I didn't want to like edge the reader on that either, that also felt a little cruel LOL)

I don't recall if I planned whose bedroom they'd be in but I let Shiro fell asleep at least before Keith leaves. FALLING ASLEEP IN KEITHS BED LOL FEELS SERIOUS.

I also think I wrote something about how he wasn't going to want to see Shiro's face or be on top in the second scene because in the opening scene he's on top for the first time and he's really nervous and uncomfortable and doesn't like it. So like instead of the BOM trial bringing them CLOSER I thought it was going to like push them further from each other because he was too traumatized LOL.

BUT IDK IN THE MOMENT ONCE I ACTUALLY SAW HOW THE TRIALS WENT I JUST FELT LIKE IT WAS TOO MEAN LOL. AND I DECIDED IF HE'S VERY HIGH AND EXHAUSTED HE CAN AT LEAST PARTICIPATE AND I DONT HAVE TO HURT SHIRO'S FEELINGS LOL. AND HE CAN STILL FEEL VERY EMBARRASSED AFTERWARDS WHICH IS THE NEXT CHAPTER THAT I'M WORKING ON NOW.

5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?

Hmmmm... Right now it's my Royal AU Feychols fic, my Claydar fic, or my weird au fic where Penny is Kristoph's assistant that I don't even remember where I got the idea from. But if things still in the idea phase counts then I'd definitely have to go with the Big Long Penny Fic that I'm working on with my friend. What can I say I <3 gay people and timeloops and gay people in timeloops.

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

Penny, most definitely, but outside of Penny.... hm, I don't know. I feel like a lot of characters come naturally to me. Not in like a "I have a complete grasp of their character" way just in a "briefly possessed by this guy" sort of way. There's a few characters I'll struggle with (I think right now it's mostly Morgan and MVK so evil old people I guess) but honestly I think this series has just seeped into my brain so much I can't NOT write these guys. Maybe also minor characters that I HAVEN'T latched onto? Like I feel like if you asked me to write. IDK Jean Armstrong or something I couldn't do it but if me or one of my friends actively likes the character, I could definitely get words for them pretty easily.

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

My first instinct is to say "guys that aren't funny" which is. I mean. It's kinda true. Some of what I write is admittedly more on the pure romance/angst end but a lot of what I write definitely involves comedy and sometimes it's hard to take a guy and make them funny. Not even in a straight man (as in comedic straight man) sense just in a "the canon gimmick this character has is bad" way or "This is just an evil old person" way. Like I said the evil old people are awful to write.

...If you had asked me this question 3 years ago I would've said Klavier simply because I used to fucking hate him and tried so hard to write him as little as possible even while actively including him in fics because "it's an Apollo trial Klavier has to be prosecution"

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

OK once again I'm dodging around the obvious answer of "big long fic with gay people in a time loop" because if I get started on that I CANNOT stop and there's SO much lore and confusing connections (Like. Penny and Kristoph are main characters. Klavier is just. not there) and it's mostly OC based and there's so much HOWEVER. I do have another WIP that I'm excited about and it's the Ace Attorney/Kirby/Untitled Goose Game fic. Basically Kirby has been accused of baby crimes and the goose has stolen the gavel. antics ensue. I'm also working on a DIFFERENT timeloop fic involving Claydar and I do enjoy the premise but I'm not that far into writing it yet so I'm unsure how excited I am about it

Fun fact I will check the Penny Nichols AO3 page multiple times a week. Like almost every day. I have found literally no fanfic on other sites that has her (because FF.net and Wattpads fic sorting system sucks) and there's only 45 fics for her on her page and I've been involved in a THIRD of them (there's like one of two where I was co author and just removed myself as co author because I didn't ship the ship anymore) and I desperately want more content I am holding out my autistic little hands. She.

...In the Ace Attorney universe is Penny frantically checking and rechecking the AO3 page for me? The universe will never know.

Also my parents know I write fanfic because once I start rambling I cannot stop (and one time I read them my gravity falls fanfic I wrote when I was like. 12) and my dad has mentioned that I write fanfic to people like my school assigned counselor????? More people than that that's just the one incident I remember.

One time I was in a class that had like. various weekly writing prompts that you could choose from and you HAD to write something for it and some of them were images or quotes or songs but I just could NOT come up with anything for them and I talked to my teacher and told her I already write a lot and she asked what I wrote and I said "....short stories" in the most suspicious voice possible and she said "oh well you can just copy and paste a couple of paragraphs there for this" and basically I had to find a couple paragraphs of my ace attorney fic that didn't have character names because while my teacher probably wouldn't have questioned someone just named Penny I would know in my heart that I didn't fully file off all the serial numbers.

anatomy tips for anon

(someone asked me for this but tumblr ate the ask lol so I’ll just answer it here)

hi anon, I actually really struggle with anatomy so i was kinda surprised to get this ask hdjsksjs but i hope my answer is at least somewhat helpful!

first of all, there are a million methods for drawing a full body. some people like sketching out a skeleton first and building on top of it, some people start with a super loose/flowy general shape of the pose, some people use ovals or 3D boxes or cylinders—i'd recommend looking at various tutorials and trying them out to see what works for you!

unfortunately none of those methods worked very well for me,, i found them kinda cumbersome and counterintuitive so I usually end up just like. going for it lol. I don’t really have a System cause my method is honestly just “try your best, hold back the tears, fix it until it looks as passable as you can get it” DHJSKS but idk maybe it will help you to see my "process" lol

(ok i've never done a speed drawing thing before so i'm about to Expose Myself but im doing this for you anon haha)

(putting the rest under a cut bc it's long, sorry lol)

as u can see, it's a lot of trial and error for me. you may have noticed how i redrew every single thing like 50 times, how i initially made her arm ridiculously long and had to shorten it, how i general just Abused the lasso and warp tools....the list goes on haha. the point is, i make a lot of mistakes and my final products are still very flawed, but that's okay because i know i'm getting better the more i practice! if you scroll back through my art tag you will see some anatomical horrors that would make picasso cry, but at the time i was really proud of them LKJDFSKJLF

ok let me break it down a bit

i usually start with the head, neck, and like a vague indication of the shoulders lol. then i add these slightly angled lines to build the torso from and leave a little gap so i can come back for the arms

then I add the legs!

i used to be so allergic to legs lol but i've been drawing them more lately and i decided i actually kind of love them?? who'd have thought. (but not feet. dni)

here are some basic examples of how i draw legs. keep in mind that i am still learning and these are not like the best examples ever! i don't tend to put a lot of detail in my anatomy and mainly stick to very simple lines and curves, partially because i prefer a simpler style and partially bc i currently lack the skill to be fancier about it lol

i usually start with basically two lines slanted slightly inward for the upper leg and then for the lower leg i do a straighter line and a line with a bump for the calf. pay attention to what direction the knee is facing because that will determine where your bumps go

once i've got the legs, i have the basis of the pose in place, so i add the arms

shoulders are a weird struggle for me lol but i usually add like a little circle or triangle to indicate the joint so i can attach the arms. and then i build the arms kinda similar to how i do the legs—like with two slanted lines and then the bump for the lower arm

once I’ve got the whole body down, there is usually a fair amount of adjustment haha. I gotta ask, does the pose actually work? like, where is the character putting their weight, and does the pose make sense that way? are the legs and arms and torso the proper length and width? and then at some point after a lot of fiddling i give up and voila, done :)

as far as proportions goes, my advice is to pay attention but not sweat too much about it. I used to try to like Vitruvian Man it lol and count how many heads tall the character was and try to be super precise about the proportions according to one of those proportion chart things. and ofc that stuff helpful and important to know! but in the end, worrying that much about it was a hindrance for me and I ended up with really stiff and unnatural-looking poses. so I mostly just follow a couple rules of thumb:

1. The elbow should hit around the waist/mid-torso

2. The arm, fully extended, usually hits the upper thigh. like, wrist at crotch level I guess?

3. The length of the legs is like roughly equalish to the length of the the whole upper body (head to bottom of hips)

these are just basics and not very Scientific haha but that’s vaguely what I go for. also remember that proportions can be pretty stylistic too! for example, a real human body is normally like 8 heads tall, but I probably do like 6ish heads normally. that’s pretty common for more cartoony styles, and the bigger heads also make the character look younger bc kid proportions are different than adult proportions. just kinda play around with it and go with what feels natural and good for the character you’re drawing

if you feel like your pose is stiff and weird rather than natural/dynamic, it often helps to make sure the shoulders and hips are tilted slightly at opposite angles. that's a tip i picked up from this tumblr tutorial a long time ago and i always come back to it, haha

ok that's about all i have for specifics but i have just 2 general tips to end with:

1. Use!!! References!!! seriously. i use references every time i draw. i look at photos of real people and screenshots from the show and i even sometimes take pictures of myself for reference. often i'm using multiple references for one drawing, like piecing together elements of various refs to create the pose i want, but sometimes i work from a single reference. i also study my favorite artists' work pretty frequently to see how they do things. getting familiar with what good art and real life looks like will help you get better at mimicking it and noticing when things are off.

2. Be patient with yourself. You’re gonna mess up a lot. Sometimes you may even post something and realize months later that you made chat noir’s upper arm literally twice as long as it should be :/

but fear not! you don’t have to live forever in the shadow of Long Arm Chat! lol. you will get better just by trying, I promise.

Part of the process of making art you like is making a lot of art that you don't like, or art that you like at first but hate later. Your skills and your eye are developing simultaneously, and sometimes your eye passes up your skills, so that you're better at noticing your mistakes even if you struggle to fix them. that's okay! that gap can be really frustrating and discouraging, but it's still a sign of growth and your skill will catch up. just keep studying, keep drawing, and keep having fun! it gets better, seriously. when i first started drawing like two years ago, i thought i'd never be able to do a passable full-body pose. it was SO hard. and it's still hard for me! but i can do it much better now than i could then, and when i get bummed out about my limitations, it helps me to remember that even though i still have a long way to go to get where i want to be, i've also come a long way. and you will too! if your current self could see what your future self can do, you'd be so impressed 😌

P.S. just to reiterate, I am Not an expert At All and these are just some methods/tips that are working pretty well for me right now. i hope they help you out too, but my methods may not be the best fit for you, and if that's the case, don't sweat. try out a lot of stuff and see what clicks and makes sense. art is a learning process and it's so individual so i encourage you to experiment!

That’s what Achilles was said to have called his love, Patroclus.

Most Beloved.

A word often spoken between the two as the salty ocean breeze filtered through the open windows and Achilles held Patroclus as if he were the moon holding his tide and Patroclus held Achilles as if he were brightening his world like a thousand golden urns. A word spoken between gasps and puffy lips as the moon peeked through the curtains and guided the two lovers. A word so precious and valuable it was the only word Achilles could cry as he held his lover’s body in the aftermath of the Trojan War.

But words too often spoken, are meanings too often lost.

“If it ever came down to you or the world, I’d choose you over and over and over.”

Much like Patroclus, you cherished the words so rarely dripped from his lips like a drop of water spilling over the edge of a cup. You held Eren tighter, pressed more kisses to the curve of his lips, held his face closer to your own when he let those rare words slip from his lips. When he spoke those words, it was as if a million stars had suddenly been dropped into your dark abyss of a universe and guided your way through life; each sparkle capturing a piece of your breath and stealing your heart and soul with no intentions of giving it back.

Eren embodied the golden urns that spilled from the sun that guided Patroclus’ path to Achilles in the afterlife; he was bright, warm, home.

When Eren lit up your word as he did, when he lit up your path and guided you to him, it was easy to call him home. He was your person. Your person who waited for you with open arms and a cup overflowing with love waiting for you to take and cherish and keep. It was easy for you to mold yourself into his arms on harsher days when he pat your head and whispered, “It’s you over the world. Always” into your ears when you wanted to scream and cry and set fire to the world.

He promised you protection; a secure future filled with love and hope and freedom and forever. It was easy to believe him when he put his life on the line for you when he was on trial. Screaming and thrashing and struggling to get to you as members of the military brigade twisted your arms behind your back and threatened to end your life on suspicions of knowing Eren’s secret. It was easy to believe him when he held you close later, with the moon’s light filtering into the room and the cold breeze cradling both of your bodies. It was easy to believe him when he held you close, his hands fisting the back of your shirt as if someone would burst in and steal you from him at any moment, while his words tickled your ear and warmed your heart, “I will protect you. You are my world.”

But words too often spoken, are meanings too often lost.

You could remember the day his words started lacking their once bright luster. Not long after retaking Wall Maria, you felt the salty ocean breeze against the curves of your face and the cool ocean water against the heels of your ankle. You smiled as you watched Connie and Sasha play in the water and looked over to Eren to do the same; but the sparkle in his eyes, or rather the lack thereof, is when the warmth of his words started to burn out like a flame too long exposed to the harsh winter.

"The world is against us. . .and I won’t let them win.”

Your back was turned to him, pressing against his firm chest that once grounded you in reality and assured you of safety; but now it only frightened you and summoned a churn in your stomach you didn’t know was possible in Eren’s presence.

It was as if your mind recognized it sooner than your heart did. As if your brain could recognize the small changes in your lover, the way his eyes slowly dimmed and were no longer the same jade green that reminded you of the soft grass that tickled the pads of your feet outside of your childhood cottage but had turned into a stormy grey that reminded you of the storms that sunk ships and shattered the hearts and trust of many.

But your heart refused to acknowledge it. Eren had placed a veil of red in front of your heart that blurred all sense of rationale you had. You could see the way he seemed to withdraw into himself more, his words became more scarce, his affection became rarer and rarer as the days passed. Your eyes could register the lack of sparkle in his when he looked at you, but your heart was under his control and refused to acknowledge it.

It was painful watching the person you love most slowly fall out of love with you.

Your heart ached when you looked him in the eyes and were faced with the heartbreaking reality that the stars that once lit up your whole universe were now slowly dimming and simmering away.

And then he disappeared.

As if he were whispers of dandelions floating in the wind, he disappeared, leaving nothing but a stem of the flower he once was in his wake.

You cried and screamed and thrashed about when you first found out, and despite his arms wrapped around you in an effort of comfort, Jean wasn't Eren. You pounded against his chest and screamed at him to let you go, to let you leave and find eren. Because it had to be a mistake, Eren wouldn't just leave you behind . . . right?

The blinding veil had been ripped from your heart and left it shattered. You spent several days locked in your room with only a few shirts Eren left behind to comfort you, his natural scent fading away as time passed, just as his love did for you.

Though, just as Patroclus did, you soon found your peace (though it wasn’t as heartwarming as reuniting with your long-lost lover like Patroclus, peace was peace and you would accept it as it came). It took a while, but with the help of your friends and Jean, you were able to pick up the pieces of your shattered heart and tape them back together.

But the process of healing is not a simple task.

There were days where you wanted to scream at the stars at the top of your lungs, there were days where you wanted to lock yourself in your room again and cry until there were no more tears for you to give, and there were days where you wanted to shatter Eren’s nose as he did your heart. But you took those days with unwavering confidence and picked up your pieces when they fell again.

You picked them up until there was no more need to pick them up because time had healed you. And while it did hurt to accept it, it was a part of healing.

And so, you accepted that Eren had chosen a life without you.

Eren didn't know whether to be happy or not to see you.

Happy you were alive. Happy he was able to see your face one more time. Happy you had made it out alive from the problems he caused.

His soul ached for him to reach out to you, to hold you close and pepper kisses to your face, and never let you go from the protection of his arms. He ached to take your hand in his and feel the way they fit so perfectly together as if they were made of the same mold. Eren ached to feel the soft pads of your fingers against his cheeks and hear your reassurances that, yes, he was good.

But he stayed put.

And he allowed you to look at him with those beautiful eyes he once loved looking into during the darkest nights that were filled with a love words could not tie-down, but we're now filled with confusion and laced with anger and an array of emotions Eren couldn’t blame you for. Eren allowed you to walk out the door of the airship and into the back where he could hear screams of joy. He let you walk away from him; the echoing sounds of your footsteps getting quieter and quieter as you walked farther away from him.

That was the only time Eren questioned whether what he was doing was right. The more steps you took away from him, the more he had to restrain his body from grabbing you and chaining you to the front of the ship. His body screamed at him to yell, speak, kick, grab you, tackle you, do anything to stop you from leaving.

But he didn't, and he allowed you to walk away.

Eren stared blankly at the metal flooring of the airship as he heard the cheering abruptly stop, and his heart sank. He prayed and prayed to the gods he didn't believe in for someone else to have been hit, that it was someone else bleeding onto the cold floor; because Eren knew he wouldn't be able to go to you. Not with Levi in front of him.

His prayers went unanswered as Jean walked in with two kids, his eyes were red with unshed tears and his hands gripped their clothing as if it were the only thing grounding him to this reality. A reality where you had been shot. A reality that Eren had seen and could have prevented.

Everything seemed to go blank then. It was as if his body shut down, his lands going limp in his lap. The sounds of Mikasa and Armin running out of the room were only white noise, but the sound of your name falling in screams once they saw you were as clear as day.

It was then that Eren realized he was but a pawn in the grand scheme of the memories he held. There was no alternative for him, no way for him to save the people he loved; leaving him to experience loss not once, but twice.

Eren tried to soften the blow of your loss by convincing himself he didn't love you, that your love was nothing but puppy love he clung onto for a small sliver of a normal life, but seeing you again for the first time in years reminded him how much he loved you.

The way you stood with confidence and fought on foreign land made his heart beat with the remembrance of the nights he held you close in his arms and whispered promises of protection and love. Promises of a world of freedom and independence.

"It's you, you, you. Always you,” words once whispered with a love Eren could only dream and long for in the present where you would no longer be there to hear them.

There was no doubt in his mind, in another universe, one where titans didn't roam the earth and the world wasn't against them, Eren would have chosen you in a heartbeat, over and over and over. In a world where his only worries would be what to eat for dinner that night, Eren would hold you close and cherish you just like he wished could in this universe.

But as the memories he inherited played out just as he knew them to and the feeling of losing you weighed heavier on him than it had when he first saw the memory years ago, Eren knew there was nothing else keeping him from becoming the very thing he promised to protect you from.

A monster.

And when Connie walked into the room, his hands stained with your blood and his eyes dripping with the horror of losing someone close, Eren knew what he had done.

Eren chose the world over you.

Vormir (Endgame spoilers kind of)

First story on Tumblr feed back is welcome. Don't judge too harshly. Hope you like it.

It hadn't been long after Scott came back to the compound that you finally had hope. It's been the longest five years of your life. You lost, and no one was okay with it. But here you are with renewed hopes and prospects in sight. 

"Right so we're splitting up into three teams, no room for errors." Everyone nods understanding, taking in every word coming out of Steve's mouth. You'd been paired with Clint, Rohadey, Nat, and Nebula. You noticed something was off about her since you walked in.

You didn't know her very well but enough to know something was off. You pulled her aside when everyone was off getting  their suits. "You know something we don't… What is it?" You say firmly taking her off guard. "Y/N one of you isn't coming back… Vormir the Soul Stone has a price. A soul for a soul."

You take a step back shaking your head. "There's got to be another way… I can't lose anymore people." She takes another step forward. "There is no other way." You sigh nod your head affirmatively. Nebula speaks again. "We should tell the team." She begins to walk off and you stop her. 

"There's no need to burden them with that choice… I'll do it." She makes a double take looking at you like you're crazy. She begins to talk you out of it when again you interrupt her. "Listen tell them that… I- I love them, I know we'll win in the end we always do." She nods and gives you a firm handshake. You nod and walk off towards the rest of the team. 

After Steve's very encouraging speech you couldn't be more solid on what you were about to do. The time travel thing was very much a weird experience. You very cryptically say your goodbyes. Rohadey didn't think much of it and hugged you goodbye. Again you nod at Nebula. You take you separate ways and you begin to climb. 

You decide to take a break when Natasha notices you scribbling on your notepad. "Y/N what are you writing? You seem very intrigued." You chuckle lightly and show her your list. 

Time Travel must do's 

Go to a bon jovi concert

Go to Oj Simpson's Trial 

Kill baby Hitler. (Maybe?) 

She huffs out a laugh. "I mean the first one is a maybe the rest seems a little ambitious. Don't you think" you sigh looking at the sky. "Let me dream Nat." Clint chuckles reading what you wrote from behind Nats shoulder. "I would go to the first world series and experience it in all its glory." Clint remarks. You raise your eyebrows at Nat. 

"You see Clint gets it… What would you go back in time and do?" She sighs deeply and thinks about it. "I don't need to go back in time… I have everything, well we will get them back and all will be right again." You nod, the lack of words not letting you reply. Clint sighs. "We best be on our way, we don't want to be here too long." Clint shudders when you pet one of the weird critters crawling around. 

Disgusting Clint mumbles thinking you wouldn't hear him. You laugh shaking your head while giving Nat a hand up. You make it to the top when suddenly a hooded figure appears. Red Skull you remembered him from one of them many stories Cap had once told you. What you didn't expect was him explaining the current predicament. You all sit in silent contemplation. 

When Clint starts up again. "There's got to be another way." Nat immediately shuts him down. "There's not, it can't be a coincidence. Thanos came with his daughter and left without her." It was like they forgot you were even there crossing you off immediately. They have this whole little talk about who deserves it and who doesn't. You should have stopped them earlier but you were scared. 

You stand and declare "I'm not doing it." Making them stop to look. You continue not giving them a chance to respond. "I have a list, a life, a family I want to get back." You say as you walk towards the edge. "Plus that's a long way down… it looks like it'll hurt." Clint laughs. "We weren't expecting you to." Nat however catches on and begins to sprint towards you Out of instinct you stun her and she's out on the floor. You carried her to Clint. 

You give Clint a look and continue. "It has to be me… you have your family to get back to. And Nat… Nat's finally going to be happy again." Clint shakes his head disapprovingly. "Y/N look at what I've become,  I don't deserve my family." You sigh "you deserve them more than anyone on this planet Clint. I'm not one to judge you on the worst mistake you've made. Remember when you found me?" 

Flashback 

2009

You were fighting off local law enforcement when suddenly you see an arrow being shot towards you. Nearly missing you, you turn to face your assailant. "Well, well, well who do we have here? SHIELD agent Clint Barton. To what do I owe the honor." Clint is in defensive mode ready to kill you at any moment. 

"Hey listen I would really like to get back home… please don't make this any harder than it has to be." He says honestly catching you off guard. You look out on your rampage / massacre then turn back to Clint. "You want me to make it easy? What makes you think I would do that? Look around this… this is all my doing."  He sighs, once again surprising you.  

"I simply don't want to kill you, looking around I can see you have talent. What would you say if you could do this legally." You tilt your head clearly intrigued by his proposal prompting him to continue. "See I've studied you Y/N… all of these 'rampages' as you call them never end in innocent lives lost." He sees the confusion on your face and decides to go more in depth. "I can either vouch for you at SHIELD where you'd get to be a paid professional assassin not to mention you'd be killing the enemy, or I could kill you right now." He says bluntly. 

"Well when you put it like that it's hard to say no Barton. How's the wife and kids?" You mention casually causing him to jump a little. "How do you know about them… answer me!" You sigh "it was just a hunch… either way your family is very lucky to have you." He calms down letting go of his grip on you. "Come on we better leave before the big guns get here." He starts walking away but stops when he notices you didn't follow suit. "See I was kinda waiting for the big guns… big corrupt family tearing, did I mention corrupt guns." 

He smirks and nods. "All in a day's work… My wife would really like you. You'd fit in perfectly with Nat." He says casually while you start to notice the reinforcement. You move your head to point out the threat and you both follow suit and disarm mostly you were killing but he didn't mind. You liked that he didn't judge. And as he promised he vouched for you, gave you a real chance even, let you meet his family. Who you loved, would do anything for them from the moment you met them. 

End flashback. 

You put your forehead on his. "If you have another kid he or she better be named after me." Clint laughs the tears forming on his eyes. You continue. "If not get a dog, and name him after me. But make it like a badass dog, a Great Dane or maybe a Rottweiler. Not a Chihuahua, badass Barton you hear me." He nods unable to contain the tears. 

"Here… it's for the kids. This was a good run Barton, better than I could have ever imagined." You hand him your note pad. You turn towards Nat and her eyes are open but she's unable to move. You wipe your tears. "I'm sorry red, make the most of it okay. Tell them I love them because they'll all be back. I believe in you." Before you chicken out of jumping you ran towards the ledge. Just before jumping you turn and see Nat regaining her senses nodding at you, her tears evident. "Something badass Clint…"

You sprint off looking up at everything you're leaving behind. Nat, Clint, his family, the team. Then you think of everything they'll get back: Wanda, Sam, Bucky, Peter, T'Challa. It makes you smile. You noticed Nat attempting to save you but Clint holds her back. Your facial features soften "its okay let me go." You mouth to them both. Feeling the impact make its way with your body. You're painfully aware of everything breaking until it's just darkness.
