Tumblr seems to be sliding in a downward spiral, and it feels like the start of the end of a fandoming era for me. I've been through it before; platforms are born then die, and life fandom finds a way. I'm just not looking forward to floundering for a bit, and dreading what the next hub will look like.

AO3 isn't really a place geared or meant for the same thing, and that's fine. My only fandom-related activity took place on AO3 only for a few years between my leaving LJ and joining Tumblr, and I lived ;-) But during that time, I was my own little island in fandom. Reading, leaving a few comments, not being super active. It's only when I found a community again that I was back to being really active in fandom once more.

And it's not that I actually use Tumblr to post about myself, but I do use it to read and reblog cool things - art, gifsets, science stuff, discovering new fandoms, and the like. I'm not sure where else I could find my people, with sameish purposes. The other sites I've tried didn't fill that niche in a way that suited me, in part because of how they look and work, in part because of who and what is(n't) there.

I have DW & PF accounts just to be safe, but I'm not very fond of group chats Discord-style - and without Tumblr, IDK how I'd even hear of new communities where I might pop in once in a while, loins girdled and everything. The micro-blogging platforms are not what I'm looking for either. Sure, I can follow a few DW comms and blogs; I already occasionally do and I will be more consistent about it if I must.

But one of my greatest fear is that the next platform will be phone-based, app-only, or some such BS - and that is something I just won't be able to deal with. Phones are tiny, it's uncomfortable to write anything, I don't like touch screen and much, much prefer a proper keyboard and a mouse (copy-pasting on a screen? (x_x) << it me), art/pics are too small to properly appreciate, a phone isn't comfy to hold for a long time for me, and the app system means you have no control over anything as a user… and that anything there must be Apple Approved, dick-free, blood-free, and tasteless. And I say this as someone who's pretty much uninterested in sex IRL or in my entertainment ;-) I still support and want the tits, the gore, the everything, and as long as I have the tools to curate - oh, wait. Curate things myself? That's not something that's popular these days, is it? It's not going to generate money, if I'm happy ;-)

So… I guess I'll play some more on Neocities, and see if anyone wants to have webrings again? (it would be fun and nostalgic, but not really viable on a large scale; people who haven't known those would just laugh and point and go on the InstaTok of the time).

So here is my little cane-waving rant of the day! I know things evolve and change and that in ten years I'll be rolling my eyes at my moping. It's only that I feel tired of moving from one shitty platform to another, of fearing I won't adapt (or more accurately won't want to adapt given the annoyance/benefit ratio) to whichever new place things will move in a few years. It's saying goodbye to a former home, moving, and hoping you'll make another home elsewhere kind of sniffles today!

We already know the next platform. It has been Discord for a few years now.

If you want the one after Discord, I think you're looking at waiting things out for quite a few years (or until Discord makes a major misstep as a company).

True, real time chat is not for everyone, but small discords with well-chosen channels can operate more asynchronously. Just like a lot of people who hated the look of Tumblr early on eventually capitulated, a lot of chat haters have jumped ship to Discord already.

Realistically, 90% of fandom always goes where the action is, no matter how much they claim the features make that space impossible, and 10% disappears.

We might get the 10% back on the next platform or they might leave fandom for good. There were LJ-haters who resurfaced post LJ era.

But as for where you'll find out where people are... probably AO3 author's notes.

It's rude and out of pocket REGARDLESS but I also think you're a little hard on yourself! You even said, you hadn't illustrated exactly what you were after with her, and you hadn't intended for a collection of doodles you happened to still like to blow up. You're entirely right that we should all be drawing more than conventionally attractive people, but idk. It's a process and you're a great artist who's working toward it! oh absolutely! i have a feeling you're right abt what they meant considering i saw the transphobic comment they made a couple posts down on their blog lmao but i wanted to add that part anyway. and i appreciate your words a ton, but dw im not hurt or upset! i get a lot of weird comments all the time, i just wanted to use that one as a platform to bounce off of a thought ive been having lately. i wouldn't post a negative remark like that unless i wanted to use it for something. the actual comment was mostly irrelevant to the point i wanted to make, which is also not meant to be super serious, just a thought soup to stir around

and i mean my interpretation of my art as purely objective, i think its important to think critically about yourself and in general. from an objective standpoint, i dont believe the way shes drawn is too out of the norm and is fairly tame (disregarding her ox/bull parts lol), thats basically what i was aiming for with that section. i constantly get stuck in a rut without improving by much because im usually just drawing to doodle after a school day and not rlly with any purpose. i tend to keep drawing the same things out of habit and it gets stale really quickly. so i know my faults and im rlly looking forward to getting better!

also rq, what you said about how we need to draw more than conventionally attractive people- while i do agree with that, in my post i was more saying its important for people to be more open-minded about how they view gender expression and attractiveness in general, myself included! i dont think how i drew charlie was very revolutionary, but ive seen so many tags speaking otherwise. which is either reflective of how small the bubble is for whats acceptable or maybe i have a skewed perception of things? for example if having a bush or something is gender envy we need to look at ourselves. bush is so normal to me. (which i dont if thats what even drew ppl to it BUT. just as an example). would those same people say the same if i drew a very fat woman with a beard, unibrow, etc.? i have no idea. but i have had my eyes opened so many times before its incredible. little things ive never thought about before through new perspective. so thats why i want to encourage it too. i hope that makes sense. thank you so much i hope you have an equally lovely day!! 🫶🫶

What's your opinion of Irene and the Divine Warriors? What were their dynamics?

Personal, a joke headcanon I have is that Irene is like a neurodivergent Jesus who doesn't pick up on social cues (romantic or otherwise) and is completely oblivious to the Shad/Esmund/(Enki) love square she's caught in. Menphia and Kul'zak are in the background cracking up and panicking because they're basically babysitting a God-like deity (Irene) with the mental awareness of a five-year-old, a traumatized possessive Great dane (shad), a giant Golden retriever (Esmund), and most of their days are consumed with trying not to let Enki die in the crossfire

Before I get into my opinions, I think that joke headcanon is super funny. Also, I'll refer to the Divine Warriors as DW during this entire thing just to make it more easier to write and everything.

As a whole, I believe they are a very dysfunctional family. The way I see them, none of them have romantic feelings for one another as I do not feel as if any of them have the time to even have emotional connections like romance. They all used to be the best of friends, but as the weight of being important people and powers came crashing down on them, so did their friendships.

Some dynamics include:

Enki and Kul'Zak: These two are the closest out of the bunch, they are good friends and trust each other with every fiber in their body. However, to history and to the others, these two rarely interacted. Most of their friendship was hidden within letters sent between the two of them.

Irene and Shad: I hated the dynamic between these two on the show. Like.. they loved each other.. but like they didn't? In my opinion, They are polar opposites, both power wise, personality wise, and philosophy wise. They butt heads a lot, but they have their moments. To me, they are the type of found family siblings that will insult and throw punches at each other, but god forbid someone else insults one or the other.

Now, like their names suggest, They all had jobs within the group, though all acted alone and were all worshiped by different groups of people.

Irene was obviously the healer of the group due to what her powers are and what her name suggests. Here's the thing, I believe her powers are like.. too god-like for an entity described multiple times to be a mortal being. Like.. bring people back to life?? Its like a badly written OC. While I do believe she has the best healing capabilities, and some healing powers, I do not think she should be able to bring people back to life. However, she is the person who makes healing medicine a thing to be studies, and not just something left to witches or healing magic users. She started the idea of doctors.

Enki is the keeper. As the name suggests, he is the keeper of all knowledge, he records everything that has happened within the divine warriors, history that has happened in every nation. I like to think that he has a giant library hidden deep beneath the earth's core. It is like the library of Alexandria, but it has never been found. Most scholars do not believe it exists. But it does.

Esmund the protector. I think he has some pretty cool magic, and since we don't know what is powers are, I am going to make something up. He is the protector, meant to protect the people and his matron. I believe he has the power to harden his skin, but he does not use this to his advantage during fights, he only uses it when the fight is getting tough (which rarely happens). I also believe is a tall, buff man. Intimidating to anyone who does not know him, but he has a giant heart.

Kul'Zak the wanderer. He goes between nations, gathers history, records art, records the people and rulers of villages, and also the resident map maker. He and Enki work close together to fill the library up to anything that can fit into it. Also, he blends in so much that it was no wonder that people did not know he was the wanderer.

Shad the destroyer. I believe his old title was Shad the fighter. Unlike Esmund, Shad was always on the front lines fighting. He never really protected anyone, but he was sure a fighter. He was the type to blindly go at it when it came to war, and it had gotten him in trouble many of times with the other DW. He got the title of destroyer during the war. The title of fighter is only kept within the Library that Enki has. Books and other history was destroyed in the book burning of history books.

Menphia the fury. She was usually in the back of wars, having magic that allowed things to fall from the sky to attack enemy lines. Things like fireballs and such. The reason why she is not so talked about is because she wanted it that way. She did not want to be known, she did not want to be remembered. In some regions, the story of the raining fireballs became that of myth, became a story. One that only happens during war full of magical energy converging. Menphia only wanted to live a quiet life, not fight others, espessially people she used to call her friends.

This took forever to type up but coming up with ideas like this was fun !!!!!

I assume it's fanart from Professor X's death in X-Men #42. And I'm just about to read that issue. I've honestly binged the first 40 X-Men stories recently, and I'll probably try to finish all 66 original stories. But i digress.

Anyways, I don't like that they killed Professor X. He's one of my favourite characters. Cyclops is my favourite because he's super relatable, but Professor X is a mentor figure. And I'm a sucker for mentor figures in fiction. But anyways, I'm dreading his death scene. Even knowing he only fakes his death, I'm not sure how to feel. Sorry for rambling, I just do this. I write way more than necessary, always.

dw abt the rambling. Yeah I'm pretty sure Wellnoe meant for it to be referencing his death in #42 (also definitely go back and rb it when you can, they're one of my favourite X-Men artists on tumblr and deserve all the likes and reblogs). Yeah Xavier's first death of many I feel will be a bit shattering, especially when before a lot of later events he doesn't really seem like an evil guy. I unfortunately am plagued with the knowledge of comics up until now so when I hear abt Xavier dying I lowkey have confetti ready (justice for Sage and many others). But yeah I understand.

basil is meant to be a lamb as like, sacrifice and innocence, bcus yeah basil is a character portrayed consistently as a sacrifice, weak, and innocent, particularly by Sunny

ram was really just, well basil is a lamb so, stranger had to be in that same general realm, maybe should be a goat instead in the way of a scapegoat but eh

sunny is a lizard bcus, okie he just has lizard vibes, and I think it'd be fun, no real thoughts put into it

omori is a dragon bcus sunny is a lizard, and well, dragons are just cool fantasy lizards, and also, much more powerful than lizards, which, fits the bill... Also... Cool cleansing and overtaking flame imagery, and also, hoarding, which... fits, probably

aubrey is a moth because... Well, my thought process was, metamorphosis symbolism, not as "wow I got better over the years" with a butterfly where they're seen as pretty things, but the less beloved moth, often seen as pests, and less useful (not really being known to pollinate as much), and connections made now, the connection to the spirit world, and how Aubrey is the one who seems most... connected, to Mari, after her passing, in the way of acknowledging her death still

dw aubrey is a larve/caterpillar mostly bcus Aubrey is a moth

mari is a butterfly because... well mainly read a line in a fanfic about how, butterflies, while pretty on the outside, when you look closer most would find rather ugly... in the way that Mari while being kind and definitely trying her best, DID harm Sunny, emotionally, and with the intensity of the violin from what I know, also physically, and was generally a perfectionist, also, a certain show made me really like butterflies as a symbol of trauma/adverse experiences, so yeah... imagine that Something shows up a LOT more, but in much more subtle ways, colored butterflies often flitting about in darker areas, and well... going darker, as the areas get even darker, and bug imagery used for horror, v gud, and would happen here

hero is an eagle literally just because I thought it'd be cool, and Idk, he seems like he'd like birds, didn't really put much thought past that, after checking symbolism on google some of it fits

Kel is a hyena, bcus, well it just made sense in my brain at the time, but, going deeper...

kel is associated with canines in official omori with hector and also just, being shown as one in the little creechur art of him, so, made sense with that aspect, and secondly... the laugh of a hyena, I've heard and have googled to confirm, hyenas don't laugh just out of joy, but also frustration and fear, which... looking at Kel's response to, that, being to keep positive, and still tries to be happy go lucky during the time in current omori, despite definitely facing a lot of very messed up stuff, just... fits, also, google says hyenas can symbolize escapism which... generally fits

as a really big zelda fan who also tends to never go into fandom spaces for the exact burnout(? ish? not really but its the best word i have) youre talking about, im really sorry to hear you arent doing that awesome right now because of that fandom, but im curious on what happened if you feel like elaborating? obviously no pressure!! and i hope you feel better soon and can enjoy the franchise outside of that experience

no juicy drama happened, it's really just a combination of like 100 things over a long period of time + when i take the time to compare it to my tf2 or ut fandom experiences i'm like. wait i'm miserable LOL

i suppose the biggest thing is proship content like, everywhere. Yes I block tags, try to curate my online space, but it's unavoidable. specifically ghi//ra//l//ink is something that is so viscerally uncomfortable to me, in every context, and if you're a ghira stan you know. it's everywhere. i don't even really like talking about this stuff cause it makes me uneasy

plus it just seems like i don't vibe with loz fans as easily as i vibe with fans from other fandoms, so i feel more isolated and misinterpreted? misunderstood? idk. i feel like there's a lot more negativity there as well, whether it be about games or characters or whatever. it brings the negativity out in me, too. i never got super into botw/totk's story so i already don't connect with 90% of zelda fans. the list kinda goes on

iono. i fucking love zelda as a series, i've made a few friends :), i love ghirahim and demise so much, they've given me lots of art growth and inspiration, but hoooh it was just getting too much for me. i've never had to consciously pull myself away from an interest before, but i realized that getting worked up about this stuff all the time wasn't good for me fdjkgfg

i will inevitably be back, i will make art with them again, like for fucking sure. loz is really special to me. i just. yeah.

-Mikey is ALWAYS down for cuddles. But if you don’t want too, he’ll respect your personal space and try to love you from afar.

-expect texts every morning and night, just so you don’t forget how much you mean to him! If you’re being negative about yourself, he’ll kiss all that doubtfulness away💖

-he’ll ALWAYS try and take you out on dates. Wanted to see a movie? No problem! Snuck you in. Wanted to go to the zoo? Ninja-ed you into the exhibits to see the animals up close! Wanted a food they where sold out of? ….don’t ask what he had to go through to get this for you.

-he absolutely LOVES to hold you; he likes being small spoon but his shell can get in the way. (Dw, it’s dull and not spiked too much). His favorite positions are ones were he can just watch your face, and easily place kisses all over your face. He loves to shower you in kisses!!

-he’s honestly the most lovey dovey one of the group, and is MORE then willing to talk about problems in your relationship then any of the other boys (except for Leo lol). If you see an issue, he will change immediately. Because he loves you so much🧡

The Bad

-this dude is ALLLLLLL over you all the time. He just always wants to be touching you

-dude doesn’t listen either, you’re going to have to explain to him why you don’t want to be touched, or how constant touching is over barring. He still won’t understand and just assume you don’t like him anymore :(

-Mikey will talk VERY publicly about your relationship, any part, and will not hesitate with details. Your his, why should he worry about people?

-he’ll say things like “I know that you don’t really love me.” and “It’s okay if you think I’m a hideous freak.” You’re going to have to CONSTANTLY validate him

-he’ll tease you SO MUCH, to the point of bullying. He doesn’t grasp the concept of having sensitive feelings (despite him being sensitive himself) and will just relentlessly pick on you

-Mikey will just randomly bite you out of nowhere. “Gah! Why, Mike?!” He’d stare at you and say, “I dunno, just felt like it.”

-he’s really insensitive to your feelings in all honesty. Mostly because he doesn’t realize that he’s supposed to be nice and take your feelings seriously. He doesn’t quite grasp how much your dog really meant to you, and doesn’t understand why you can’t just get a new one and by happy

-Mikey wants you to be happy and will do ANYTHING to ensure that you are; even doing risky things like shoplifting or bribery to get you anything and everything you want or need.

The Ugly

-he’ll DEFINITELY get possessive over you, and how much time you spend with his brothers. Not saying you would replace him, but he’d rather not take that chance

-Bro has the DIRTIEST minds of all the brothers, ALWAYS taking things the wrong way and making the worst jokes about it

-Before you started dating, he would follow you home and leave mysterious love letters in your mailbox

-he’d follow you on EVERY social media and like every single one of your posts; downloading every image of you or your face/pets/family/whatever else you post

-not to say Mikey would KILL over you, but he’s been thinking about cutting off that connection with Casey a lot…

I keep seeing people post an image of Doctor Who with a line calling it British people's One Piece and... eh, I guess somewhat, but also no, not really?

DW at its most politically left leaning, yeah sure, they're a lot alike.

But One Piece is a single coherent story that, despite its length, is working towards a specific end, written by one man who's able to commit to showing his views on how the corrupt system that governs the world destroys it. While Doctor Who is an episodic collaborative series that wants to never end where you can absolutely have an episode written by one person that has that same message of 'corrupt systems destroy those who keep them running', but then have another episode written by a different person that says 'the way Amazon treats its employees is fine and acceptable actually'.

I mean, that mixed bag nature is what I loved about Doctor Who (having an actual work of art one week, a fun pulpy no-thoughts adventure the next, and something to bitch about the following week was a delight), but like, it's not on One Piece's level in the way they're actually comparable.

And One Piece is not really on Doctor Who's level on the one other way they're actually comparable: the time scale. OP has been running less than half as long as DW and finally closing in on its ending. DW is meant to be a never ending semi-tragedy following this immortal demi-god - it's been able to run successfully for an only once broken sixty years and may potentially by one of the few stories out there that might actually get away with never ending.

So no, Doctor Who really isn't British people's One Piece. It's just Doctor Who.

I will say, though, if your favorite parts of Doctor Who is RTD and Moffett's better episodes (which was the corner of the fandom I'd settled into on here back when I was all about that series and I know some of those people still follow me) and you're really looking for the hard stuff now, you should totally give One Piece a try. I know @as-i-watch was into it too, so I think there could be a real DW to OP pipeline here.

As for the people who joined me with One Piece who've never watched Doctor Who... you know what, if you're someone who actually likes the Long Ring Long Island arc and a lot of the anime's filler, I think you might like DW.

rant about my mom its fine its wtv

I spent the past two days working on thispainting which i dropped face down onto another peice of art today and like i fucked it up and am just going to re do it but my mom comes into my room notices the fact that i painted PAINTED a fucking cigarette and yelled at me i have peices of art that no ones ever seen bc ik shit like that would happen because yk other ppl painting shit like dicks is fucking fine but if i paint about sh or problems ppl face everyday my mom would fucking flip she noticed the painting i did about gender dysphoria and was all "why are you drawing sad ppl" so im having like a mid life crisis (not mid life im actaully gonna make it past my like 30s or wtv) bc if my mom doesnt like the gender dysphroia one which doest portray any sort of sh what if she finds the paintings that show really bad sh like this is so silly cant wait until im out of this house and able to make art about wtv tf i want and not have to worry about being yelled at especially because ive been dealing with dark shit mentally since i was a fucking kid lots of unresolved trauma and the only way im able to get past those things is art so i make a lot of pretty good shit but can do anything with them and have to hide them all the fucking time like art is meant to be something to help me whcih my mom knows but i portray something not happy and she fucking hates it like im fucking sorry I make art about my fucking trauma a lot of which i ended up with from being in this fucking house and go non verbal when trying to talk about it so i paint shit like that like what do you expect while im out of the house to paint sunshine and rainbows no i paint about shit ppl struggle with so forgive me if my refrence had a fucking cigarret and was the only decent one i could find were living and laughing defineatly not loving today was a pretty shit day anyway so this was such a great way to end my day anyway im fine dw but ahhhh this shit is icky

My current banner art is actually a crop of the first paired piece I ever did to go with my Deathly Weapons fic. (Specifically Chapter 11, which I still have a soft spot for since it’s one of earliest chapters that really let me lean into scratching the thing-I-haven’t-seen-too-often-in-fanfic itch.)

I recently got my hands on a discounted Wacom (my digital art process got tanked a few years ago when my poor art-compatible hybrid tablet-laptop was tragically taken from us by a cracked motherboard) so I’m looking forward to getting into a faster art workflow again and maybe putting some new pieces out more easily. I’d like to do more comic art pieces for the Chapter 18 mission, and there’s a silly little concept drawing for the planned Mission 5 that might be new-blog-banner material if it turns out nicely. We’ll have to see how that goes.

As for what I’ve been chewing on story-wise lately… I’ve sort of been all over the place. I’m still on burnout recovery so I’ve been letting myself move non-sequentially, working on the bits my brain feels like focussing on rather than trying to force creativity where the juice isn’t flowing. (One of the things about being my type of writing-nerd is that “self-indulgent” for me means a story with plenty of material to analyse, which is very fun as a reader but has created a lot of work for myself as the writer. As mentioned in another post, I have a full-blown TV-show-style story-bible for this one.)

Recently, my authorial ping-pong-ing has been going into a fair bit of spoiler territory. There are some chunks of the Act III endgame plan which are underdeveloped in the specifics of what the big-boss bad-guys’ plan is, whether I want to involve the Anti-Ecto Acts more, and the logistics of both the counter-strategy our heroes are planning to use and how to make its more action-heavy parts look cool in writing. When I’m not doing that I’ve been focussing a lot on the upcoming Wally-centric chapters, which are a set I’ve been wanting to keep schtum about since there’s a small potential spoiler mixed in and I don’t want to risk giving the game up or pre-setting people’s expectations before they have a chance to blind read (even if a few people have already made some close guesses in the comments). It puts me in a bit of an odd-spot right now because the chapters I’m drafting are an immediate spoiler, the later sections I’m working on are a major spoiler and there’s a good chance that a lot of the character stuff going on in the middle won’t make a whole lot of coherent sense without prior context because of how I like to layer foreshadowing/development.

That said, Wally-centric chapters mean Wally thoughts, and of those I have plenty to share:

First of all, I want to establish that I really do like Wally as a character. The DW chapter set comprising Flashpoints through to Equilibrium is going to explore and develop some of his flaws and insecurities, which means he isn’t going to be looking his best, but it’s not meant to be a Ron The Death Eater situation. He’s just a complex person, and taking him warts and all means sometimes you have to get up close and personal on the warts.

Something that I’m maybe a bit over-conscious of when reviewing my DW story notes is worrying about letting Wally slide into just being punching-bag joke-fodder. Wally is quippy, irreverent, a little tactless and prone to being a bit of an impulsive goober who sometimes gets possessed by teenage boner-brain, which makes him easy to fall back on as a default source of incidental levity (whether cracking the joke or being the punchline). Because I’m now writing an 8-character ensemble where most non-focal characters only get a few lines per conversation, it’s easy for characters to slide into being defined by their strongest surface level trait(s)… and something I worry about with Wally is that his availability as a source of jokes runs the risk of Flanderisation into a disposable Scrappy/ Flirty Comic Relief, which isn’t his character. Wally is actually really important – not just for his scientific book-smarts but for his perceptiveness, earnestness and ability to function as one of the emotional barometers for the squad – so I always have it in the back of my mind to make sure I include enough moments that actually demonstrate those qualities and the other characters’ appreciation of them/ their friendship, so that it counterbalances the more light-hearted goofery.

I think he’s walking the same tightrope as Sokka from Avatar: the Last Airbender – yes, he tends to take the L more often than the others for comedy purposes and sometimes he gets stuck with supremely dumb side-plots for the sake of tonal balance, but to claim that it’s the entirety of his characterisation really misses the point by a wide mile.

On that note, I actually really like the decision YJ!Animated decided to go with in its first and only season (ahem) in giving Wally a normal and functional family background. I know that’s not the typical background for his comics counterparts (and no shade on other fan-writers who want to write AUs exploring the abuse dynamic, those are really interesting stories) but I think it was a smart deviation for the purposes of a large ensemble, and offered a fair bit of potential for cast-balance. It lets him serve an important role as the normal one – not only as an easy window into what the current lives of ordinary middle-class civilians look like (which is good because ordinary people are who our heroes are donning the masks to protect) but also as a touch-stone for the others, most of whom either come from different cultures or from very atypical backgrounds. Even if we discount the Impure Atlantean with military training, the ostracised White Martian and the Half-Alien clone-weapon, the other members of this line-up are an orphaned circus acrobat adopted by a billionaire, a girl from a dangerously dysfunctional criminal household where she was forced to fight her sibling, and a fledgling sorceress raised by an overprotective single Dad. The others might intellectually understand what a “normal” childhood and family look like but they don’t necessarily know it as intuitively and intimately as Wally does. That normality gives Wally the potential to be a more stable foundation for the others, a source of emotional contrast and of a necessary wholesome mundanity. That is a good thing for the Team to have. I think it also speaks volumes to the heart of his character. For this Wally, the Flash and heroism weren’t an escape from a bad personal situation. His life was actually pretty comfy and privileged - he didn’t experience a brutal wakeup to the injustices of the world or some other personal call to action. This is a Wally who opted into the game because he loves the players and sincerely believes in their values and mission. And while that might mean he has a more romanticised idea of what heroism entails – and will probably face some rough shocks down the line as that rosy vision runs into those more brutal realities – it also means he brings a sincere hopefulness to the job that is less hardened than a lot of his roughed-up, pre-jaded peers. Underneath the teen sarcasm and surface-level lancer/smart-guy traits, this Wally has as much power to be a stealth-Heart as any of his Flash!counterparts.

Something else I find interesting when using Wally is how a lot of his strengths and flaws feed into each other – and I think this alternate backstory is part of it. For all of his good heart Wally can come off as insensitive, and I think some of that could be read as a product of living a more charmed life. I think he’s susceptible to a thing that a lot of real people do – universalising their own personal experience as the default – and that while he is canonically a geek and somewhat genre-savvy about hero cliches, he’s a geek about in-universe media so he probably doesn’t think to apply those tropes to “real people” like himself or his colleagues. While this Wally is a skeptic, he’s not a cynic, and I think he might forget how much of an outlier he is in a world where things like living parents and loving parents are often mutually exclusive. He’s smart enough to connect dots but there’s a little blind-spot where he simply might not think to until one of the others jabs an elbow into his ribs, because his default view on humanity is in some ways a little kinder than typical due to that small but still significant amount of privilege.

At the same time, Wally is also someone who has probably run into (or watched his mentor run into) a lamp-post at high-speed at least once in his career. He contains multitudes and among those multitudes is an endless capacity for some absolute Looney-Tunes nonsense, which the world is 100% better off for having.

I love him, your honour.

Dropping by to let you all know that I'm not dead, I've just been stuck in Xenoblade hell and also very busy with my Master's thesis :'D Dw though, I'll be back <3

I also wanted to use this occassion to mention that I always read all the tags from when you guys rb my art, and I want to stress how much leaving a simple nice comment on an artpiece means to me and, I think I can speak for us, all artists in general.

Back to back it recently happened that someone left a really long essay in the tags of one of my art pieces and I had to thank them for it because such a thing literally means the world to me.... and then just two days ago I left some tags in a post of one of my favourite artists, saying how much their art inspires me, and they came to thank me and said that really meant a lot to them and just..... this is what it's all about. Sharing our love for the art we and others make. I was really really moved by the kind words from these people.

Like... even if you just leave a keysmash or a "<3" in the tags please understand that this means SO MUCH to an artist. To know that our art is seen, and that it resonates with people, is the highest honor to us. I am giving you all my gratitude and a loaf of warm bread fresh from the oven. Thank you.
