Okay, man, hold on. Everything is clunking into place for me, after reading this post about Aziraphale being Israfil in Islam, the angel whose job it is to blow the cosmic horn that starts Armageddon.

And so then, Crowley is the Serpent of Eden, who sets the human story in motion, and, presumably, the need for an Armageddon, where humans are measured and sorted into Good and Bad, sent to Heaven or Hell.

And someone else in another post I read long ago pointed out that Crowley signs to start the Armageddon process at the beginning of the series.

While Aziraphale signs for the package with the tools of the Four Horsepersons, at the end of the series, to end the Armageddoff process. [I could not find a gif or a video of this anywhere, so sorry, you get a crappy photo of my screen I took with my phone.]

So, once again, their roles are reversed --

Crowley starts humanity, Aziraphale is supposed to end it.

Crowley starts Armageddon, Aziraphale ends it.

And Aziraphale ends it in another sense, too, as he's the one [in the series, not in the book] whose creativity and critical thinking skills come up with the argument about the Great Plan vs the Ineffable Plan.

This has also got me thinking about how Aziraphale and Crowley, despite being absolute grade A idiots, are actually ridiculously powerful.

If Aziraphale is one of the ten most important angels, and his job is to literally end everything, it explains some things. Like why the other angels are so insistent on getting him back up to Heaven, instead of just writing him off as a weirdo and a soon-to-be casualty of the War. Like why the Metatron says, "We will leave the portal open for you, do not dawdle." Like why the Quartermaster angel says, "Your whole platoon is waiting for you."

And then there's Crowley. And there're lots of people who like the idea that he's just a nobody in Hell. "They just said, get up there and make some trouble." But then again, he's the only demon we know of who can stop time.

He's the only demon who has an imagination. Which. If all the demons and Satan fell at the same time, for asking questions. I wonder what changed. Why has Crowley kept asking questions, which seems to me to be crucially linked to having an imagination. Meanwhile Hastur and Ligur and Beelzebub, etc., and even Satan, are fatally literal-minded. Satan is defeated by Adam's creativity in naming his adoptive father as his only meaningful father, breaking the expectation and tradition of bloodline. So that kind of creativity is extremely powerful in the story.

So what else do we not know about Crowley and his power?

Hard to believe this is the first time you've ironed anything. You're a natural.

Lupin: It was Shiro's idea to learn how since we have to do our own laundry.

It's exemplary work, Lupin. Maybe you can help me.

Boogeyman: (confused) Why do you have two suits?

Daisuke: It's probably for Israfil.

Boogeyman: You mean the other guy?

Zabaniyya: When we talked about the party, he wanted to attend, too.

FLASH

Hey, you can't have a dance without music. Besides... I was hoping that I could... I could... Dance with Lucifer.

Lupin: ... (smiling) Israfil, of course we can dance together if you want... But please don't call me that name.

(coming out of the bathroom) Bathroom's free!

Wakan Tanka: (a bit surprised) Oh, My Israfil, I wasn't expecting you to arrive.

Israfil: Just wanted to let you all know I'm going to the dance, too.

Wakan Tanka: (happy) That's good. The more, the merrier.

It's so wonderful that we can all be here together.

Boogeyman: Yeah... Wearing little to nothing.

Lupin: Good thing Arachne came by with my suit before we striped. It would have been quite the surprise.

FLASH

Zabaniyya: Knowing Arachne, she would probably be inspired to make us new clothes instead.

Lupin: Maybe.

Wakan Tanka: I just wish the other me would have something nice to wear. The least he can come up with is his fringe shawl.

Lupin: I'm sure something will come along. But for now, he would look fine in anything. It's what we all love about him and you.

FLASH

Thank you, Heyoka. It is so good to hear that from you. It is what we love about you.

Lupin: ... (smiling) You're all welcome.

A little later, you and your boyfriends were ready.

So, is everyone ready?

I'm already all set. The others are still getting their suits on.

Lupin's Voice: Okay, we're ready!

I'm ready, too. (I just hope no one wonders why Taurus Mask suddenly appears at a school dance.)

Wait 'til I tell the other Oni after this. I wonder what their reaction would be.

I've never been to a school dance before. I'm actually looking forward to this.

Daisuke: So am I.

Boogeyman: Alright, settle down. Let's not get too excited...

Still, let's have a much fun as possible!

Everyone: RIGHT!

Wakan Tanka: (confused) What is it, My Lupin?

Lupin: ... Yes, you can join the Summoners.

Four of them: (surprised) You mean it?!

Lupin: Yes. Oniwaka, Zabaniyya, you also saw Yog-Sothoth's memories and know that in his memories, in that loop, you were members of our Guild and now you want to be in this one. And I say go for it. I've seen how in this loop you would go far to help me. Oniwaka, you are wiling to sacrifice anything and everything for my safety and I know it's because, in truth, you have a kind heart. That's something you don't see everyday. I think you would be a great edition to the Guild.

Oniwaka: (crying, but smiling) Lupin... That's... That's the nicest thing you've ever said. You really care about me that much.

Lupin: Zabaniyya, I showed you what freedom is. But freedom can't be without the law. Something to make sure we don't end up abusing that freedom. I know Shiro does that, too, but you do so in your own unique way.

I never would have found that balance if it hadn't been for you. I'm glad Kengo made me fight and I'm glad Ryota's Sacred Artifact clashed with mine. That was the happiest I've ever been.

Lupin: Israfil, I don't know if you can hear me inside of Zabaniyya, but when I showed you that your music can also be a beginning and not just an end, I meant it. If a story has no ending, he can a new one begin? We could always use more music in our Guild.

Thanks, Lupin. I can conduct music for you guys anytime. Just say the word.

Lupin: Taurus Mask (Daisuke), you consider me your soul brother, but I know we can be closer than that, especially if you let more people in. You possess a strength that many of us Summoners are still searching. You can help us find it.

Tears were running down Wakan Tanka's face. But one of the streams was a dark liquid... That's when you know the other was touched by your words, as well.

You go up to where your sword is still in the stone. But you now know something.

Lupin: A true leader knows that it is wise to listen to what his followers have to say, but they must also listen to their heart. I want Wakan Tanka, his infinite self, Oniwaka, Taurus Mask, Zabanniya, and Israfil to join the Shinjuku Summoners... Because I love them all. And I know they love me. And I also know my Guild loves them, too, just as much as they love each other... And it's that love that will help me now.

You take the sword by the handle and pull... But it's not stuck anymore. Then, with one mighty pull... You pull the sword from the stone.

The Fisher King: ...

You could tell that the Fisher King was smiling inside.

Lupin: Together?

Four of them: (happy) Together!

Lupin: Role of the Wanderer. Rule of Rending.

Wakan Tanka: Role of the Warrior. Rule of Defense.

Oniwaka: Role of the Stalwart. Rule of Appropriation.

Taurus Mask: Role of the Hero. Rule of Accession.

Zabaniyya: Role of the Torturer. Rule of Hellfire.
