Uhhh...

I feel like this is a prime example of "you are not responsible for how others (mis)interpret your art".

If someone reads incest into a completely platonic piece of art between two siblings... it doesn't obligate you to content warn for incest because someone MIGHT think siblings hugging or looking at each other is incest.

Like, you're doing your job by tagging it as the characters names. If someone is so squicked or triggered by incest that seeing siblings express affection is incest, they should have the tags for sibling characters blocked.

This is also where the platonic characterA&characterB tag would come in handy.

Tagging a romantic pairing or putting a cw for a romantic pairing very much implies that that is the intention of the artwork. You are not responsible for how other people react to your artwork, and you are doing your due diligence by tagging. Or even by leaving it untagged, honestly, when it's not content that could reasonably be expected to trigger or squick anyone. I mean, people don't even have to cw or tag that kind of content, but on a site without a "creator chose not to use warnings" autotag I think that should be the minimum.

But... you can block people. You can block tags for specific characters. You can emotionally regulate and deal with uncomfortable feelings when YOU assume platonic art is romantic. That's very much on you.

The idea that you should have to assume that any art you ever post of any two characters expressing any affection towards each other might be read as romantic and therefore should tag it as the ship and cw for it is... quite frankly, scary, but also, extremely amatonormative and allornormatibe. It just feeds into the idea that affection of any kind is inherently romantic (and therefore sexual) and that romantic (and sexual) interpretations therefore trump platonic intentions.

Quite honestly too, if you get so squicked or triggered by two characters interacting in a positive way that you need art tagged as the exact thing it's not to safely interact with fandom, you're simply not ready to safely engage with fandom.

Tags are for saying what something is, not what someone might misinterpret it as.

Like really, "Some people might think your innocent platonic art is actually incest so you should tag it as incest to make sure they don't see something that's not at all incest but that they'll get squicked by anyway. What do you mean this will prevent them from seeing any and all platonic art of these characters? Obviously you need to know that any art of two siblings could be read as sexual and therefore tag is as sexual even when it is the exact opposite of sexual. In fact, it's content warning incorrectly to not incorrectly tag platonic art as sexual. It helps people avoid their NOTP to make art that's not the NOTP ship then tag it as such," is the take of all time.

Is this satire? Am I on a hidden camera show?

#also I have to wonder if this person thinks it's okay to tag art as a ship for this reason when an artist explictly intended it as not that #hopefully not but #this opinion gave US the ick

Autotag #9 – DA Twinkle companion NPC meme

I’M YELING THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER OMG I love it

Character name: Shira “Sunset” Hanaki Race/Class/Element: Meercle /Sapimon/Grass-Electric Gender identity/Sexuality: Cis female she-her-herself/ Bisexual

Recruitment Quest: Automatic in-story. During the Kogane’s Trainwreck Shira is the innocent that gets stuck in the train and has to be rescued. After all is said and done she is first forced to stick around, later joining in a more serious manner. Where they can be found in your headquarters once recruited: Shira’s office – most of the time, available for questions, help, language practice, organizing missions or joining for a mission The library – usually here as well for investigations Shira’s room – she deems it off-limits for the rest of the characters though it becomes accessible in the romance route [nighttime, tired/sick/post-mission, character not available for talking/joining for a mission] The garden/berry field – found here when she’s absorbing solar energy and relaxing [most commonly during winter, character available for talking but notjoining for a mission] Side Missions (eg: fetch / gather / kill quests): Getting her some language books and parchments, buying or crafting certain incenses and perfumes. You can also spar against her a few times, each time tougher than the last.

Personal Quests Quest 1: Sometime after the destruction of Kogane’s main district Shira went back to retrieve some personal items but she’d found some of them had been lost or destroyed, in special a particular Kalosian literature book. She’s been searching for a copy of it since then but it just seems impossible! If you manage to find her one she’ll be very grateful. Quest 2: [requires medium affinity] Shira will ask you to help her find a way of getting her cellphone back, which was taken away when she was first… err… recruited by SO. She’s asked for it several times but has been refused, to make matters worse she doesn’t know who has it but suspects either Citinea or Techny. In reality she’s only interested on the files in it so if you can just get those that would be perfect. you know she’s doomed Quest 3: [requires high affinity and Lia in the party] Ever since she joined SO Shira has lost contact with her family, she’s long since accepted it’s better this way but has been feeling very nostalgic lately and would like to at least know how they’re doing. She knows if she does this herself she’d probably be putting her loyalty in doubt so she asks you instead to go find them (under an alias of course) perhaps have a short talk with them and then report back to her. No other member of SO may know of this so thread carefully.

Things that raise their affinity with the player: Kind responses, the diplomatic approach, practicing languages with her, showing diligence, respecting her beliefs. Things that lower their affinity with the player: Not talking to her for a long period of time, lying or mocking her/her studies, siding with Indigo or associate too much with him, being mean to Denika or Lia.

Are they romanceable? Yes, but only briefly. Can the relationship become sexual? Yes. If they can be romanced and are not, will they begin a relationship / relationships with other character(s)? If so, who? Regardless if the romance path is taken or not Shira eventually starts a relationship with Techny afterwards. Sorry

Which other characters are they friendly towards? Denika, Citinea, Kurogaki [briefly dates him], Landen. Which other characters do they not get along with? Techny [Initially] Leoar, Masaki, Indigo [character clash].

Opinions on other races? Shira doesn’t judge based on elements/species, she’s had some bad relationships with individuals like Sand, Fokko and Kodora and very good ones with the likes of Agehunt, Raichu and Osubame but it doesn’t bias her. After all she believes everyone is unique. How do they feel about battles / religion / the government? Battles: A good exercise for both mind and body and a good way to express oneself (or one’s frustrations) doesn’t like battles to death though. Religion: She reveres the mortality duo, particularly Xerneas, and celebrates the corresponding festivities but isn’t that religious herself. Also respects and accepts other religions though it’s a bit iffy of Sinnoh’s. The Government: Too complicated and corrupt, best when in an exploitable state. Not too fond of cops.

Something guaranteed to make them leave the party: Having Indigo join the party lmao, breaking her trust or betraying her.

Character name: Kurogaki “Kuro” Tensho Race/Class/Element: Luxray/Ketal/Electric-Dark Gender identity/Sexuality: Cis male he-him-himself / Heterosexual (Demi)

Recruitment Quest: Recruiting Kuro is easy, but first you have to catch him. Wandering around Kogane district you hear a small commotion about a thief and a messy black-haired boy runs past you being pursued. If you chase him as well he’ll eventually lose them but get caught by a police officer. Though things look bad, they mistake you for the one he’s stolen from, and you have the choice of freeing him or letting them take him. If you pay for him, he’ll automatically be in your debt and you can get him to join you, but if you somehow free him without paying you’ll have to convince him. Where they can be found in your headquarters once recruited: Kuro is usually roaming outside and can be found sporadically in the gardens, otherwise he’s either at his room or somewhere up high from where he can see everything and spend time alone. [and unavaible for talking/joining a mission if so] If Eifi joins the party he’ll be more around her as well.

Side Missions (eg: fetch / gather / kill quests): exploring (possibly mapping) the wild surrounding areas. Collecting certain berries or plants. You can also spar against him frequently.

Personal Quests Quest 1: Kuro loves the wilderness, and loves to explore that’s for sure. In one of his little expeditions he found a certain curious cave that seems worth investigating, surrounded with rumors from the local rabids about mons who disappeared in this area in the past and legends that tell of a treasure in the unexplored interior, but his pride and solitude aside it looks dangerous and/or unwise to go alone. Go with him and see what you can find. Quest 2: You notice Kuro’s been absent more often than what he already usually is, and once day decide to cautiously follow him around (a hard task thanks to his good instincts and x-ray vision) to find out what he’s been doing. You’re surprised to find he’s been taking care of an injured female jiguzaguma, the young rabid is still just a kid, confused and scared with a broken leg. She’s obviously wary about urban places and mons, something Kuro understands very well and respects, and so he’s been looking over her from a more “natural” approach without wanting to get other people involved. Help him nourish her back to health by visiting periodically, searching certain items or staying with her while he does something else, once the jiguzaguma is healthy she’ll happily go on her way and gift you an special item from her secret pickup stash. Quest 3: [requires high affinity] Thanks to Silver, it seems he’s found a hint on the whereabouts of the friend he’s been searching for since long ago, but he can’t quite put the pieces all together yet. You’ll have to help him search for this “Gold” person following the clues around to reunite him with Eifi. If you manage to do so you’ll get the option of either let her join the party or dismiss Kuro so they can go home together.

Things that raise their affinity with the player: exploring around with him, helping others/being kind in general, agreeing or at least being receptive to his thoughts and ideas concerning rabids and their ways, standing up for rabids in conversations, keeping Eifi out of trouble. Things that lower their affinity with the player: Rushing into things, being greedy, trying to control him or judge him (being against him going out)

Are they romanceable? Nope. Can the relationship become sexual? Nah. If they can be romanced and are not, will they begin a relationship / relationships with other character(s)? If so, who? Kuro has a relationship with Shira for some months and then ends up with his childhood romance Eifi.

Which other characters are they friendly towards? Citinea, Denika, Shira [briefly dates her], Landen. Which other characters do they not get along with? Skype??

Opinions on other races? Kuro doesn’t particularly care about such things. But will get visibly irritated if discriminatory or degrading comments about Rabids (or even Ketals) are made. How do they feel about battles / religion / the government? Battles: An intrinsic part of life. Go all out, show your strength, your ideals and your will to live. Takes them seriously and can become pretty wild/violent. Religion: Kuro was never introduced to religion as he went rabid when he was very young. He picked up some things here and there about the Hoenn shinto (particularly from Eifi and Nadine) but not enough to get invested in it or even form a proper opinion. The Government: Doesn’t concern him much either. He has the understanding that they’re just doing their job but are pretty corrupt and bad at it? (which is why SO exists and problems like his happen every day?)

Something guaranteed to make them leave the party: Heavily disrespect or mock his former status as rabid or rabids in general. Hurt Eifi in any way and he’ll come for you, she’ll stop the fight from becoming deadly, but unless you try to mend things with her they’ll both leave.

Character name: Eifi Akihara Race/Class/Element: Eifie/Sapimon/Normal-Psychic Gender identity/Sexuality: Cis female she-her-herself / Heterosexual

Recruitment Quest: Eifi can be recruited as part of Kuro’s own personal quests. If not then you first know about her by Silver mentioning he has to “relocate” a civilian he’s been keeping safe for quite some time now but now is ready to go back home, if you agree to help him he’ll take you to meet her and after some conversation and gathering info you find out she’s the girl Kuro has been searching for. If you choose to reunite them you get the option to either let her join the party or dismiss Kuro so they can go home together. Where they can be found in your headquarters once recruited: Eifi is most often found inside at the living room or the garden, keeping herself occupied with practicing or doing certain crafts. If not then she’s most likely at Kuro’s room (which is off limits anyway) Side Missions (eg: fetch / gather / kill quests):

Are they romanceable? No. Can the relationship become sexual? Nope. If they can be romanced and are not, will they begin a relationship / relationships with other character(s)? If so, who? Eifi earns her happy ending with Kuro.

Which other characters are they friendly towards? Kuro, Gold, Kimitaro, Shira. Which other characters do they not get along with? Indigo [scares her]

Opinions on other races? Eifi is generally kin and pleasant and as such she accepts and treats everyone equally regardless of species and the like, however she seems to be affected by certain stereotypes in what races are considered “elegant” and “beautiful” and has a clear (though irrational) prejudice/dislike towards absols which she attributes perhaps to a past life. How do they feel about battles / religion / the government? Battles: Not too fond of them, they make her nervous and she doesn’t like people getting hurt or violent. Still respects them though. Religion: Pretty devoted to the weather trio and the Eon duo. The Government: Doesn’t have a strong idea or opinion about it particularly.

Something guaranteed to make them leave the party: If Kuro leaves she’ll leave as well.
