kind of a rouge prompt idea but “i just told a story at work about my childhood that i thought was really funny but now everyone is super quiet and someone said i’m so sorry” but it’s jamie + the team edition. like he talks about a traumatising James Thing and has no idea how horrifying it is until they’re all like …… wtf
love your writing! <3
Thanks for the prompt (and the lovely compliment)!
I’ll preface this by saying I have next to no knowledge of dentistry and you should not assume any medical assertions made here are correct.
((I also feel like I should add that I finished this one off while more than a little tipsy.))
Enjoy the himbo chaos.
(Prompt Fill Masterpost)
“Ay, dios mio, it was terrifying.” Dani put an emphatic hand to his chest. “Earl. He still haunts me.”
“Thought you were over that, bruv.” Isaac frowned up at him from his usual spot on the locker bench.
“On the pitch, yes. But at night…” Dani shook his head mournfully. “I have dreams of being chased in the dark. I know it is him.”
“I used to have dreams like that.” Colin piped up, pausing in tying his laces and looking haunted. “‘Cept it was my nana chasing me, on her mobility scooter.”
A few people sniggered and Isaac clapped Colin’s shoulder. “That’s fucked up.”
“I never remember my dreams,” Sam mused. “But I have always been a very deep sleeper. My father says I was the envy of all other parents when I was a baby.”
“I have only ever had one nightmare.” Richard declared. “All of my beautiful little teeth fell out of my mouth and I was ugly. Who will kiss me if I have no teeth?”
“Who’s losing teeth?” Jamie asked, joining the conversation from the doorway with a furrowed brow.
“We are discussing nightmares,” Jan explained matter-of-factly, then turned back to Richard. “Dreams about losing teeth are commonly attributed to stress.”
Jamie shook his head, still looking confused.
“Nah, don’t get that one, mate. Your dentist can just stick ‘em right back in, can’t they?”
That sparked a round of horrified protests and Jamie flapped his hands like a conductor to quiet the rabble.
“Eh, eh, I’m right!”
“Actually…” Sam held up his phone, open on an NHS webpage. “Jamie is correct.”
The locker room erupted into disgust and outrage while Jamie grinned smugly and tipped his I,COG cap to Sam for the assist.
“Hold on, how did you know that?” Isaac demanded, staring at Jamie like he had two heads. That quietened the team a little as heads swivelled in Jamie’s direction.
“Knocked two of ‘em out when I were, like, 10.” He shrugged and tapped a fingernail against one of his front teeth in demonstration. “Mum’s friend were a dental nurse. Told her to put them in some milk and take me to hospital.”
“You were very lucky.” Sam commented, still scrolling through the information he had found. “A significant gap in your teeth can lead to premature ageing.”
“And what a tragedy that would have been, eh?” Jamie beamed, gesturing to his face. “To think I might have deprived the world of this top tier mug.”
Other players groaned and laughed, a few tossing socks or discarded shirts in Jamie’s direction while he ducked, sniggering.
“How do you know they gave you your real teeth back?” Bumbercatch questioned, with an air that suggested great suspicion of the dentistry profession as a whole.
Jamie considered that. “Fair point,” he conceded. “They feel like mine, though.”
“Wait, how do you even manage to lose two teeth at once?” Colin interjected, muffled by his fingers as he prodded his own mouth in confusion. “I’ve never lost any after my baby teeth.”
“Took a snooker cue to the face.” The team winced as a collective and Jamie nodded sagely. “Were pretty grim. Blood all over the pub floor and everything.”
“You were 10?” Thierry clarified, face scrunched up. “Do kids normally get into bar fights here?”
“Well, yeah, s’pose not.” Jamie shuffled in place, suddenly looking a bit uncomfortable. “Weren’t a fight so much. Dad took me in to watch a match and it all kicked off a bit.”
An uneasy quiet overtook the general hubbub and more than one face went stony at that revelation.
“Mate.” Jeff looked like he’d rather not be the one probing further, but had bitten the bullet anyway. “Your, uh, your dad wasn’t the one with the pool cue, was he?”
“Eh…” Jamie glanced around the room before answering. “Well, yeah. He was. But I’m, like, 90% sure it were an accident.”
Chaos detonated like a bomb.
Isaac and Richard jumped to their feet, one cursing in French, the other demanding to know how long it would take to get to Manchester. Colin seemed to be googling train times.
Dani had taken to rifling through his bag, looking for god knows what, and Thierry was strapping on his mask like it was war paint (he didn’t even need it anymore, he just liked looking scary).
Jan was a terrifyingly silent pillar in the middle of the storm and Sam… Well, Sam looked like he had been gutted.
“OI!” Roy’s bellow commanded immediate silence, players freezing mid-shout. He was framed by the door to the coaches’ office, arms crossed and typical glare set in place. “What the fuck is going on out here?”
“Close ranks!” Jamie all but squeaked, invoking a hallowed, sacred vow from the team to collectively shut the fuck up.
All eyes turned to Issac who, as captain, had the final say.
On balance, he decided it was probably best that their new manager didn’t get arrested for murder before the season even got underway.
“Agreed.” he finally acquiesced and the whole room affirmed their compliance sullenly. It just wasn’t worth the forfeit to cave in under Roy’s (very effective) glare.
“... right then.” Roy finally allowed, still looking at them all suspiciously. “Then get out on the pitch and stop wasting our time.”
Everyone clamoured towards the tunnel, eager to escape the intense atmosphere. All except Jamie, who was still hurriedly pulling on his kit.
He tried not to seize up when Roy sidled over.
“You’ll tell me later.”
It wasn’t phrased as a question and Jamie knew better than to take it as one. He slumped in defeat.
“Yeah. Probably.”

Hi there!! I’m the anon that requested the wedding date fic, which was absolutely fabulous, and I was wondering if you’d be willing to write about Jamie and reader’s wedding? It doesn’t need to be a continuation of that fic (and obviously you don’t need to write it if you’re not vibing with it!) I just thought it could be cute 💚
it took me a while to vibe with it, but I finally did!! Thanks for the request!
Tumblr media
right words at the right time
“Don’t bite your nails!” your sister shrieks from across the room. You whip your hand out of your mouth.
“I wasn’t,” you reply.
She raises an eyebrow. “Sure. Sure you weren’t. Here, eat something instead.”
“I can’t,” you say. “I’m too nervous. What if something goes wrong?”
“Like what?” Keeley asks from her position by the mirror. She slicks back a flyaway hair and dabs at the corner of her mouth.
“I dunno, what if- what if I trip? What if Ted forgets what he’s supposed to say? What if Jamie says no?”
Your sister and Keeley exchange a look.
“He’s the one who asked you,” Rebecca says before either of them can can snark back at you.
You’re still not convinced. “What if he’s changed his mind?” you ask worriedly.
Your sister bangs her head against the wall. You weren’t this nervous last night when you were out partying with the girls. None of the women in the room are quite sure what’s come over you.
“He hasn’t changed his mind,” Rebecca says in a placating tone. “Look at your hand. See that diamond? Does that look like something Jamie would forget about?”
“No,” you reply weakly. “But what if he wants it back? Or remembers that he’s famous and rich and I literally am neither of those things. I have a face that was made for the radio!”
“Oh my god,” you sister says, throwing her hands in the air. “He’s marrying you. Please calm the fuck down. You literally have to walk down the aisle in half an hour.”
Your nail is in your mouth again so Keeley reaches up and smacks it away.
She says, “Babes, I love you to fucking pieces, but you seriously need to calm down, yeah? It’s alright.”
There’s a knock on the door and you jump.
“Almost ready?” Ted asks. “The boys are getting mighty anxious out there.”
‘The boys’ he’s referring to are the entirety of AFC Richmond, who may have been the reason this marriage is even happening. After all, it was Colin who swore he met the perfect person for Jamie and Dani who convinced you to go on a blind date. Sam provided the venue (obviously) and Isaac, Declan, and Richard made sure Jamie didn’t wear something stupid.
Rebecca opens the door a crack. “She’s getting mighty anxious in here.”
Ted frowns. “Pre-wedding jitters are normal, but you got nothing to worry about, darlin’. Two hundred of your closest friends and family are all here to support you on your big day.”
You blow out a breath. “More like thirty of my closest friends and family. The rest are for Jamie. Fuck’s sake, Ted, what am I doing? I shouldn’t be here. Do you know how much money he spent on this fucking wedding? It’s more than I make in two years. Don’t get me wrong, it’s literally my dream, but I just feel like I’m not going to measure up. He’s going to get bored of me sooner or later.”
Ted tilts his head and you feel oddly comforted under his scrutinizing gaze. “Alright, come with me,” he says after a moment of deliberation. “Everyone’s outside, I’m just gonna sneak you down the hall a little bit. You trust me?”
You nod and take his proffered arm. Your sister breathes, “Thank fuck,” as you leave, and you’re pretty sure you hear Keeley echo the sentiment.
Ted leads you to a door at the end of the hall and motions for you to stand against the wall, just out of sight. He knocks.
“Jamie? You got a minute?”
The door opens and you clamp a hand over your mouth to keep from making noise.
“Your girl’s having a bit of a pre-marital fright, so I brought her down to talk to ya. If you just sit down and stick your hand out the door, she can grab it and you won’t see her before you’re supposed to.”
Jamie says, “Sounds good, coach,” and his head is replaced by an arm. You stare at it for a minute before Ted motions you to grab Jamie’s hand. You sit down, back against the wall, and reach for Jamie who gives you a reassuring squeeze.
“Christ love, your hands are fucking sweaty,” he says and you can tell by his voice that he’s smiling.
Something about hearing him makes tears well up, and you sniff.
“Babe, what’s wrong?” Jamie asks. “You crying because you’re so happy your husband is mad fit and mad rich?”
You say, “No. Well, kind of,” and it’s all Jamie can do not to break the stupid fucking tradition of not seeing the bride before she walks down the aisle.
“Tell me,” he says softly. Ted hands you a tissue and then retreats back where he came from.
You sniff. “I’m really excited to marry you. I really fucking am. It’s just- you’re so much, you know? It’s one of the things I love about you. And I’m not, not really. I’m just me, and I don’t want you to realize that you can do better.”
Jamie maneuvers your hand so he can press a kiss to your knuckles.
“You worry too much,” he says. “We’re doing this shit, for better or for worse, yeah? How do I know you won’t realize you can do better than me? Dump me for some fit nerd.”
“You are a fit nerd,” you laugh through tears. “Football nerd, but still a nerd.”
Jamie snorts. “Shit babe, you know how to make a bloke feel special.”
You’re both silent for a minute, taking comfort in the fact that the love of your life is on the other side of the door.
The moment is broken by Keeley’s appearance.
“Time to go back into hiding, babe,” she says.
You sigh, and Jamie squeezes your hand one more time. “See you in a bit, love,” he says.
Keeley helps you off the floor and back down to the room.
“All good?” she asks.
“All good,” you reply.

I've had a fic idea kicking around in the back of my mind for a while where Ted and Beard give the team a safe sex talk.
Because these two came not just from coaching a whole different sport, but a whole different demographic college-age young men who grew up in the US, probably in red/conservative states. And in the US, especially red states, we don't get sex ed in high school. Abstinence-only is the norm.
The first time I got any kind of sex ed that wasn't preaching abstinence was in a college course where my professor had realized that this gap in our education, while sucking for us, also impeded our ability to understand some of the later material. She developed a sex ed course taught over two weeks or so.
In this vein, Ted and Beard realized while working with college students that their teams were lacking some vital info about things like STDs and consent. So they threw together a power point which they normally present at the beginning of a season, which is part of their getting settled ritual.
The original premise of this fic was something fun, comedic and fluff filled. Pure crack. I have done zero research on sex education in the K and other countries where the AFC Richmond players are from but I'm sure it's better than the United States because the bar is on the floor. Plus these guys are older and more experienced so the talk would be a refresher kinda thing. I was going to throw in a few paragraphs about how Ted and Beard made an effort to include talk about non straight sex too, for that to resonate with Colin. Maybe make this happen when Trent was shadowing Ted, or have Trent hear rumors and grill Ted about it like he did about Sam's birthday party.
But then, just now, it occurred to me that depending on the timeline, Jamie might still be there. So it's early season 1. Maybe just after the gala. And when Ted starts talking about how consent matters so so much, not just for the girl but the guy too, that brings up some...stuff.
Because they're talking about informed, enthusiastic consent. What counts as consent. Relationship dynamics. How you do it because you want to, not because you've been told by a partner or society that you should. Honestly might segway into asexual spectrum Jamie because my own asexuality colors my writing and interpretation of characters (Jamie being ace in sex-positive, likes to make his partners feel good vein, similar to how @zehwulf talked about evidence towards Ted being asexual) and also because I enjoy ace-ifying characters.
Anyway, the TLDR of it: I had a fun idea and now I'm thinking about Jamie Tartt's trauma. A normal occasion, in this fandom, I think.

Tumblr media
As you're walking through the halls of AFC Richmond, you have your head down as you jot down notes into your planner from the meeting you just came from. You notice a pair of sleek, black dress shoes stop in front of you. You pause and look up from your planner to see Rupert, Rebecca's ex-husband standing in front of you.
"Well hello there." He says with a smirk.
"Good afternoon Mr. Mannion."
"Someone's a busy bee today." He says glancing down at your book.
You close your planner and look up at him.
"Yes, I just got out a meeting actually." You say as he looks at you. "So, what brings you to Richmond day Mr. Mannion?" You try your hardest to be polite to him, even though it's almost impossible sometimes.
"Please, call me Rupert." He says with a smile. If you didn't know him, you'd think he was Prince Charming. "And I just dropped by to pay my ex-wife a visit."
A worry comes over you, Rupert never comes around for fun. You've become better friends with Rebecca since you started working here and you know his history of being a piece of shit. You look over towards the stairs leading to her office, hoping she's okay.
Rupert senses your concern and a smirk comes across his face. It's beyond aggravating how much joy he gets from hurting her.
"Yes, my dear Rebecca, she broke my heart when she left me."
"I am sure she did." You say, a little irritated.
"And I'm so sorry, but what was your name again?"
"Y/n."
"Right, of course. Y/n, such a beautiful name." You see his eyes sparkle, kicking his charm into high gear. He reaches his hand out towards you. "It's so lovely to meet you again, y/n."
You reach out to shake his hand and he gently takes it and kisses the back of your hand.
You awkwardly smile at him and reply. "Yes, it was great seeing you again as well, Mr. Mannion."
"Please," he says, holding his hands over his heart. "Call me Rupert."
"It was great seeing you again Rupert."
His phone begins to ring and he pulls it out of his pocket and chuckles when he reads the caller id.
"I'm so sorry to cut our reunion short but I have to take this. I hope you can forgive me." He says sounding disappointed.
"I'll let it slide this time." You say, still trying really hard not to be a bitch to him.
"Lovely to see you y/n."
"You too Mr.-" You see his eyes darken as you go to say "Mr. Mannion" and you stop yourself. "Rupert." You correct yourself.
His eyes sparkle at you while he answers his phone and gives you a wave. You both begin to walk away and you head towards the stairs to Rebecca's office.
"Ugh, I fucking hate him." You think to yourself as you wipe the back of your hand on your dress.
You climb the stairs and head to Rebecca's office. When you reach the door you notice it's slightly cracked open. You peek in and see Rebecca standing with her back to the door, her one arm crossed over her waist, resting her chin in her other hand, looking out of the window onto the pitch.
You gently knock as you open the door.
"Rebecca?"
She turns her head just enough to see you out of the corner of her eye, keeping her back to the door.
"Oh, y/n," she turns her head back to the window and tries to wipe away tears without you noticing. "How was the meeting?"
"It was fine," you say as you walk in and close the door behind you.
"Is there something you need?" She asks with a shaking voice.
"No, I just wanted to see if you were okay."
She turns her head again to get a glimpse of you.
"I saw Rupert in the hall and he mentioned he stopped by to pay you a visit." You take a few steps towards her.
"Yes, it's always a lovely day when he comes to visit." She says looking back out of the window. You hear her sniffle while she discreetly wipes more tears away.
You walk up next to her and look out the window in silence. You see the team practicing on the pitch below. You hear whistles being blown, the boys yelling and the occasional punt of the football.
"They look good out there." You say, trying to make small talk.
"Yeah," Rebecca says with a sniffle. "Lets hope they look this good at the match this weekend."
You glance over at her and see her tear stained cheeks. She notices you look at her and diverts her eyes away from yours. You look back out the window.
"He's a piece of shit." You say, referring to Rupert.
You see Rebecca shake her head and you turn towards her. You see more tears streaming down her face as she struggles to keep them back. Her glossy eyes filled with heartache and insecurity while she purses her lips to stop them from quivering. You reach your hand out and gently place it on her arm, stroking the sleeve of her blazer with your thumb.
"Hey," you say gently. She shifts her eyes towards you and catches your gaze. "You're okay."
Her face contorts, as though she's struggling not to cry and shakes her head. She covers her face with her hands and gently breaks down. Without a second thought you wrap your arms around her and pull her into you. She leans into your shoulder, her hands still covering her face, and begins to cry more. You place one hand behind her head and gently rub small circles on her back with the other.
"It's okay," you whisper to her. "You're gonna be okay."
You can feel her heartbreak as she cries into you. You've never hated Rupert more in your life than you do in this very moment. You've come to deeply care for Rebecca since you started working at Richmond. She was intimidating at first, but as you got to know her, some of her walls began to fall away. You admired her for her strength, her willingness to always work hard. Her smile always brightening up every room she enters, you loved the way her green eyes sparkled when she talked about her passions or got excited about something. Every time you heard her laugh you couldn't help but be filled with joy, everything about her was beautiful.
She was always the strongest person in the room. One visit from Rupert reduced her down to a puddle and you wanted to kill him for it. Especially because you know how much he genuinely enjoyed doing it to her.
Rebecca lifts her head and steps out of your arms.
"I'm sorry," she says as she wipes her tears away. She seems flustered, maybe even a little embarrassed that you saw her in that state.
"Hey," You take a step towards her and look into her eyes. "It's okay."
"No, you shouldn't have to do this," she goes to turn away and you stop her.
"I'm not doing this because I feel like I have to," you put your hands on her shoulders and look into her eyes. "I'm doing this because I want to. As soon as I saw him in the hallway I wanted to come check on you. Not because you're my boss, or because I feel like I had to. I wanted to make sure you were okay," you pause for a second. "because I care about you."
Rebecca says nothing but continues to look into your eyes. She seems surprised when you tell her you care about her. As if she thought no one in the world did.
She begins to cry a little and you guide her to the couch and sit. You wrap her arms around her and she wraps her arms around you.
"I fucking hate him. I hate that he does this to you on purpose. That he thinks it's so entertaining to do this to you." You tell her. "I hate that he does this to you."
Rebecca pulls away and hangs her head. You hands fall from the back of her shoulders to her leg. She wipes away more tears and you tuck a piece of hair hanging in her face behind her ear. You fingers linger there for an extra second before you pull away.
"He can be so cruel," she says looking down at her hands. "But no matter what he does, I still love him." She slowly looks up at you with total heartbreak in her eyes.
"I know." You say quietly.
"You must think I'm absolutely pathetic." She says as she looks away from you.
You grab her hand and look into her eyes.
"I do not. Never for a second did I think that. You're the strongest, most amazing woman I've ever met." Her eyes widen as she listens to you speak, tears building at her waterlines. "Every person goes through shit, no one is immune to it. It's part of the human experience. But that doesn't mean you're not a fucking incredible woman. Because you are." She looks away and shakes her head in disagreement. You put your finger under her chin and guide her face back to yours and look into her eyes. "Rebecca, you are amazing. In spite of all of this shit, you are amazing."
She shakes her head again as tears fall down her cheeks.
"No I'm not," you go to object but she continues to speak. "I did everything that man told me to do, for years. I stopped talking to my family, I didn't see my best friend or my goddaughter for six years. I thought his cruel comments were just honesty and I thought it was noble, I admired him for it. I never loved anymore more than I loved him. I tried desperately to be the perfect wife for him. And he told me if I ever left, I would be alone. And now I am." She looks down and cries more, you hold her hand to comfort her, she picks her head up as you look at her. "And now he's having another baby, he always said he didn't-" she looks away for a moment and closes her eyes. "I always wanted a family. I loved him so much I was willing to give up everything for him. And now, I'm all alone. Just like he said I would be."
You look at her eyes as she looks away, her spirit completely broken. You pull her into a hug wrapping your arms around her.
"You're not alone." You whisper into her ear as she leans into you. "You have the team, you have everyone here, and you have me." You place your hand on the back of her head and gently hold onto her. "You're not alone Rebecca."
You feel her relax a little in your arms and she holds you tighter. You sit there in each others arms for a minute, hoping she feels the love you're trying to pour into her. She pulls back a little, your faces just a few inches apart, your hand still on the back of her head. She looks into your eyes, the heartbreak you saw in them earlier fading.
"You're not alone." You say, looking into her eyes.
She gently bites her bottom lip, pulls her eyebrows together and closes the space between the two of you as her lips meet yours. You welcome her lips onto yours as you pull her in while your heart begins to beat faster with excitement and nervousness. She glides her hand up your neck, resting her thumb on your cheek. Your lips part enough for her tongue to slide between them and caress your tongue. Her bottom lip sitting between yours, you gently suck on it. Your tongues delicately meet once more and your lips part. Rebecca places her thumb on your bottom lip and gently pulls down as you rest your head against hers. You feel her warm breath on your face, her thumb resting on your lip, her soft hair between your fingers, you're afraid to open your eyes, worried as soon as you do you'll wake up from a marvelous dream.
Rebecca pulls away, you gain the courage to open your eyes and see her face in front of yours. Relief washes over you, you see worry in her eyes as they scan your face for your reaction. You smile as you slide your hand from the back of her head to her cheek and caress it with your thumb. The worry from her eyes washes away, and she returns the smile. Your hands drop from each others faces and meet in your lap. Your interlock your fingers with hers and look back up at her.
"I really do care about you." You say with love in your eyes.
"I really care about you too." She says, tucking a piece of hair behind your ear and resting her hand on your cheek.
You lean into her warm hand, close your eyes and inhale. Your eyes meet hers when you open them. You don't think you've ever seen her eyes look so green and filled with love. You look back at her with love in your eyes, both of you smiling, both of your hearts full of love and happiness.

(Ask prompt: put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.)
thanks for the ask! <3 i suppose i will list multiple as there are multiple emojis lol:
following the smashing success of my ted lasso reddit-thread fic (in which colin hughes makes an r/relationships post about the team's attempts to match him up with isaac lmao; inspired entirely by the excellent fic good old fashioned lover boy, written by the asker!) i have spent a decent amount of time thinking about potentially writing another social media-adjacent fic for that canon following colin and jamie's bully/sidekick-to-lovers relationship journey over time lol. potential scenes include: excerpts from post-match interviews, excerpts from the interview in which jamie called colin a "jaundiced worm," the comments section on afc richmond's official instagram page, etc. i don't know if i actually have it in me to write this but i have cracked myself up over the concept on more than one occasion
stranger things: american vandal au. in which dustin and company rope steve into driving them around so they can make their weird little documentary about how the suspended student eddie munson is Actually Innocent of whatever crime he's been accused of. i know for a fact i don't have it in me to write this one, simply because the plot would probably get pretty complicated and i Cannot handle that, but i do think it would be fun to read if anyone managed to make it work properly!
stranger things: breakfast club au. em, this one is ENTIRELY your fault. you know what you did. i JUST THINK that steve, eddie, nancy, robin, and jonathan need to spend a day in detention together! and come to a few Realizations about themselves in the process! i'm being a bit vague about what those Realizations are but of the three concepts i've outlined in this answer this is the one that i Do Actually have a significant amount of words on the page about... so perhaps sometime in the future you will get to see them for yourself.....

I'm just hoping for some mistletoe

💧Share something romantic/hot from your WIP, or just something sweet if it's gen.
LKDFHLSJDLK i'm writing crack fics they're more horny than hot i think this is the closest you'll get. trent suffering because ted is hot
Although Ted Lasso is comparatively a novice, his work ethic is admirable. Trent scribbles it out. Ted Lasso is unfairly handsome, unfairly nice, and absolutely shit at football. Trent puts his head on the desk. The motivation of the coaching staff in hiring a novice who understands less about football than the teenagers on his team is a mystery, but Ted Lasso’s skills reach beyond the game on the field, and into the locker room, the players alongside him. It is this writer’s opinion that although Ted Lasso will undoubtedly fail to save AFC Richmond from relegation, he will be an asset to the team, the staff, and the players. Trent thinks that might be hornier than the previous sentence he scribbled out. It’s fine for a start, he can workshop it when he types it up at work tomorrow.
