WAIT WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT THE DUFFER BROS ABILITY TO WRITE VERY COMPELLING AND INTERESTOING CHARACTERS ONLY TO LATER DROP THE BALL!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!! it annoyed me a little boit in season 2 as i started noticing it with nancy and johnathan the most???? and i had a gut feeling that they would cut kali off pretty soon because she's too offshoot from hawkins (which is so disappointing since she's literally one of the only women of colour on that cast......) but i think max's intro and steve's development kept me from complaining too much. and then i noticed it again with the same characters in season 3, but got a little distracted because of erica and robin, and then by season 4 i was like okay so which one of our core cast members will you be cutting out as much as possible and then try distracting me by dangling a new character in my face who will die within the season? and it was eddie, chrissie, etc etc. all this to say, i might have problems with the duffer brothers politics, but i also have very real problems with their writing, both character driven and themetically, and this feels like you are solving at least one of those problems in a very real way (and i like the ensuing thematic changes that are occuring because of it) (largely: communication as love and growing up as accepting to take people as they are) (idk i might have made that up a little and doing a lot of projection on that last one)

god i could write an entire essay on this topic ,,,, they pissed me off so bad with season 4 its my least favorite season entirely for that reason. they completely undid SO many important characterizations because they clearly added too many new characters by that point and couldnt handle it and its just. awful.

jonathan especially gets the worst of this. season 1 hes so complex and he gets his own scenes centered around HIM ! he has a personality !!! he has monologues and amazing scenes. then season 2 comes and its like ok. more focus on will. cool makes sense. then 3 and hes more just nancys sidekick (cool but ??? wheres his arc ???) and FOUR ????? no. fuck season 4 jonathan that was fucking criminal. jonathan gets stuck in a loop of taking care of his family, getting frustrated by it, and then repeats. duffer bros need to apologize to charlie idc

and nancy :(( she had SUUUUCH a good arc and her story felt complete but of COURSE because shes a badass female character they had to reduce her to a love interest ?? AGAIN ??? in season 4 with a shitty love triangle that was concluded YEARS ago. i hate it. so deeply.

but yeah like u said they just bring in new characters and then axe them immediately and then the core group then suffers and its just ,,, so so so shitty. kali is just gone. so is argyle. like what the fuck.

and ur spot on with the themes !!! YES !! part of my therapy for my hate towards the duffer bros has been rewriting this fic and actually. ya know. UNDERSTANDING the characters and i loooove the themes of growing up and communicating <333

JIMINS TORSO POEM

Explained by German American.

“Ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen, die sich über die Dinge ziehn.”

the first 2 lines feel like the writer has no purpose left using lots of words with little meaning like thing (thing is a non descriptive word), also the tone is very monotonous (receptive, or without purpose) it feels like depression. also want ot point out that rings symbolize life, rings on trees signify age, etc, so when the writers saying there living there life in widening rings in german it sounds more like there going through the motions of aging.

“Ich werde den letzten vielleicht nicht vollbringen. aber versuchen will ich ihn.”

the second 2 lines feel a little more hopful. but almost pathetic, like from the readers pov u get the sence of someone who want to try bt they have almost enteierly given up on life. the 3rd line sayes “i might not bring my last ring to a close” meaning the writer doesnt feel confedent they can live there life to where its soposed to end. Ie suicide. but they want to try. specifically they want to finish there last ring. again most likely a reference to tree rings. also again the vocab is not very descriptive, lots of “things”, and referencing the rings as “that thing”.

“Ich kreise um Gott, um den uralten Turm,”

the second stanza feels very differnt from the first. to start its much more discriptive. now the writer is saying exactly what hes circuling around. ie his life purpose. we asume the center of his being, his “core”, is his most treasered self. now he sayes he circles arounf god and hte old tower. i would say the tower is the little tree he started out as. and since he describes it in a way that sounds like its not his, this god an tower are somthing outside of him that he worships. we can view this like the building blocks of a child, there not responsible for creating themselfs and raising yourself are outside your capability as a child. almost like a god, nuture and nature creat you, like a god. also

“und ich kreise jahrtausendelang;”

the second line feels like when u have come home from a long day and u feel like u have been working forever. The way the writer writes this line is almost with a sigh. a bit of a cry say “iv been circling forever”. we can take it in a figurative way the writer is saying it feels like i have been alive for thousands of years. or in a literal way because trees can live for thousands of years (bringing back that tree metaphor).

“und ich weiß noch nicht: bin ich ein Falke, ein Sturm oder ein großer Gesang.”

the last 2 lines go together. the brake creating a nice build of suspense. but what i find the most interestoing is that the writer says they dont know what they are, ie there purpose. yet they clame to be alive for what feels like ages, but they dont seem to be dont with life if they havent even found there purpose. the differnt things the writer could be is also interestig. falcons are apex pretetors (top of the food chain) meaning he could turn out ot have a very dominating career or be a very rich person etc. or he could be a storm, most people dont asosiate storms with good things they tend to bring disctrution and harm. and the last thing a widspread song. the german word used is “großer gesang” which is hard to translate but "widspread song” is closer to vibe of the german words then the offical trans. but widspead song would be the best outcome bc it means his work would be widley known. however its interesting that the writer chose 3 options that would all be iconic and leave a legacy. a large storm or a widspread song or a bird that swoops from the sky to eat its pray. so the writer subliminally (without realizing) still holds them self up to high expectations.

i mentioned to my dentist that i saw deadpool 2 recently and thus ensued a minor discussion about how it was, then she asked me if i liked romance movies and i said no, then she asked if i liked sad romance movies and i said “that’s like the worst kind of romance movie” and she then went on to say i should check out a movie called like crazy and i did after the appointment and it is my wholehearted opinion that it looks shit. the only kind of romance movie i would even consider watching would be a lesbian romance with a happy ending, and this straight romance with a dumb ending is def. not what i am el interesto in. the moral of this story is don’t trust your dentist’s taste in movies even if she’s pretty
