🌸 #bookreview 🌸 Read: March 29 - 30, 2022 | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 QOTD: what’s the last book you read that surprised you? 🌸Thoughts Oh gosh. This book shocked me and I loved it so much. It was such an amazing book. I was crying and flipping out. I feel like every other post I am saying how I was crying. 😅 Anyways, this book explores the pains and gains of growing up and loving others. It’s just wonderful and heartbreaking and I highly highly recommend this. Evie and X are just incredible. Their relationship is just so cute and so wholesome. I love them. I will say there were aspects of the book I didn’t like. But c'est la vie. Nicole Yoon is just an incredible writer, she takes you through the journey and makes you feel all the feels. Book Review: Instructions for Dancing

Hey guys, it’s been a while. But I’m back!!!

Have you read Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon? She’s the author who wrote Everything, Everything and The Sun is Also a Star (if you didn’t know). She wrote another wonderful book. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you read it first before reading this. I’m going to spoil a lot in this post. 

So the main character of the story, Evie Thomas’s parents got a divorce six months ago. After her parents announced the divorce, Evie went to her father’s office to talk to him about it. Only to find him in the arms of another woman. She ran out of there after that. So six months after that, Evie is giving away all of her romance books away to a library. After giving her books away, she recieved a magical gift of seeing couple’s futures when they kiss. She first say this with her sister and she told one of her bestfriends this information. 

All of the futures she saw didn’t end happily. Just as she thought. After her parents divorce, she stopped believing in love. But then she decided to take dance classes and that when she meets her love interest. His grandparents ran the place. I’m not going too deep into the plot but I will get into a few things I wish went different in the story. 

I love this story, it was wonderful. Taught a valuable lesson on, don’t give on love. Forgiveness, etc. 

But what kills me is how Evie kind of forgave him so quickly and her sister didn’t know about the affair and was giving Evie a hard time about the divorce. Saying, “People fall out of love.” 

No honey, you’re father fell out of love and cheated on your father. And I know in the story it was six months until she forgave him but, I need more time. I still need more chapter of her giving the cold shoulder to him. 

AND, Evie, her sister and her aunts (her father’s sisters) went to the mistress’s bacherlotte whatever it was. Like how dare you! I wouldn’t have gone. But her mother, sister and I think even her father were asking her to come. Absoutely not and trust me you would not want me to come because I’m going to drag her at her own party. Calling her names, telling she doesn’t even respect the sanity of marriage since she was dating who was already married. I hope my dad does cheat on you, so you know how it feels. And great job for breaking a family. My father may have been unhappy but my parents could have gone to couple counsiling and seeked helped. But instead my mother let him go, so you should be grateful to my mother for not being selfish! 

I would have said all of that to her in front of everybody and revealed to the sister the truth behind the divorce. She was really getting on my nerves. 

Well, that’s all I wanted to say. I really needed to get that off my chest. I feel so much better now. I still love the story, the romace was still cute. I still say everyone should read it. I was just really frustrated with that part of the story. But now I am better. Until I read it again and I might come back to complain. Later!!!

It’s Monday but it’s a Monday before a holiday weekend, so something to look forward to. . Today is my stop on The Write Reads blog tour for a powerful YA read - Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon. . ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ Book Review: . I loved the relatability of it all. It had a significant impact on me emotionally because I could completely relate to Evie and how confusing and overwhelming life can be at times. It’s a beautifully told story that focuses on the reaction of a teenage daughter after catching her father and his mistress together kissing. That situation is very confusing to a child, and parents rarely recognize the truth of that reality or the consequences. Evie is written so genuinely that she quickly takes you through the laughter and the tears as she struggles to work through her feelings. . I loved the magic element in the story. I always say there can never be enough magic in books. After Evie donates all of her favorite romance novels to a little lending library, she meets a mysterious woman who encourages her to take a book from the library – the only book in there that isn’t hers is a book on dancing. This action takes her to the beginning of her journey with all of its ups and downs. . My favorite character had to be Fifi, the dance instructor. She always has an excellent response to each situation, and she made me laugh out loud more than once. She is very wise, and her observation skills are always spot-on. She is a supporting character with a significant presence. . The story’s bittersweet ending is so poignant that I shed a tear, or two, or many. And then I went on to read the acknowledgments and cried even more. After reading the novel, the inspiration for the story is just as touching as the story itself. Love is an essential part of life, but it comes with equal parts pleasure and pain. The fact that love’s not all happiness and light does not ever mean it should be avoided. Q: Who is an auto-buy/auto-read author for you?. I’ve read Nicola Yoon’s previous books, and I have to say, this is by far her best book yet! I am a fan for life. Her writing is so easy to digest and made me feel oh so happy. I could have read this in one sitting if I had the time, that’s how enjoyable this story was! While this book is called “Instructions for Dancing” and does include a #dancing competition, it’s more focused on the characters rather than the dancing – and how the act of dancing brings them together. It also had a magical realism element which I didn’t expect – in a good way. 💃🏾🕺🏿 I enjoyed this aspect of the story and did not see it coming. Evie’s parents are getting divorced, and while was used to be a huge fan of romance novels, she no longer believes in love. If the two people who were most in love in her life fell out of love, what hope is there for anyone else? It all starts when she’s donating her romance novels to a Little Free Library (hello, LFL rep, love to see it!) and an older woman is also at the library – telling Evie to make sure she also takes a book. The only book in there is one called “Instructions for Dancing” – I love this is how the story begins. This is a love story involving someone who doesn’t believe in love anymore. Evie meets X at the dance studio, where she’s trying to return the Instructions for Dancing book – it had an address in it, she felt it was only right to return it! 🩰 I love their chemistry right from the beginning, its easy going, casual, and they have some great banter going. One thing leads to another, and the two are partnered up for a dancing competition! Something Evie has never done before, but is up for the challenge. X is a “say yes” to everything kind of guy, a free spirit willing to try anything once. He’s a great character and well developed as Evie spends more time with him. As per #NicolaYoon writing rules, this book has a plot twist, its its one that pulls at your heartstrings – something Nicola is fantastic at. #InstructionsforDancing made me feel all the feels and I loved every second of it.
