IRTS-SETU at the forefront for the nation..

With the outbreak of COVID-19, I was tasked with the work of marketing the chemicals required to manufacture Masks & Doctor’s coveralls for the health workers working on 1st-line of duty.

Earlier these masks & other equipment were mainly procured from China & USA, but during the pandemic, the supply chains were blocked. As a quick response, I decided to market these products in Indian market & empower Indian companies to manufacture them.

However, there was a major road block – a literal roadblock. My chemicals were in Chennai & needed to be shipped to the clients in Surat & Nashik. With major roads & trains shut down, it was a herculean task just to deliver the material to the manufacturing units.

Faced with this dilemma, I approached Indian railways through their twitter handle. I received a call within next hour from India Railways, with Mr. S.K Ghosh on the other side. He told me that the material had to be loaded in Southern Railway (Chennai) & it can reach Mumbai. But thereafter there was a problem that the material had to be manually picked up & transferred to another railway station of Western Railway as the two lies have no intersection. A task which normally courier agencies take care of- but are suspended right now. He further went on & told me that since these materials are essentially required, as a special case he would arrange officials from CSMT (Mumbai) to execute this task. Thereafter he gave me the contact details of Mr. Jitendra Misha (CPS CSMT) who played very important role in this mission. He personally transferred the material from CSMT to Mumbai Central and directed the shipment to Surat & from CSMT to Nashik respectively, thus solving the entire problem by actually carrying out the operation under his supervision.

The material reached the destination & the entire transit was secured within 4 days & on time. Mr. S.K. Ghosh & his associate Mr. Karthikeyan – a young IAS officer appointed with IRTS TEAM SETU, were in constant touch with me & kept me involved while chalking out the plans and coordinating it, answering to my even minuscule concerns.

This entire episode has changed my perception towards Heroes. They might say Heroes come with Capes but I’ve seen them in human form just doing their jobs with cent percent perseverance & humility. This COVID-19 might be a villain with global ambition but certainly not without its equally adroit nemesis.

The chemicals after reaching their destination are being utilized and will be seen in Indian Markets as Masks & Coveralls (PPE) very soon.
