The often repeated description of the stately palm and other noble tropical plants, then birds, and lastly man, taking possession of the coral islets as soon as formed, in the Pacific, is probably not quite correct; I fear it destroys the poetry of this story, that feather and dirt-feeding and parasitic insects and spiders should be the first inhabitants of newly-formed oceanic land.

I saw the Live Action Little Mermaid last night, so it's time for a review. (tl;dr I thought it was really good) Spoilers ahoy (though really, if you've seen the original you know what's going to happen)
The new Little Mermaid movie hits the same story beats as the original, but it's longer run time (2 hr 15m vs 1 hr 20m) allows it to flesh out its story more and expand on the themes of the original.
I'll start off by saying the casting is great. Halle Bailey stands up easily to Jodi Benson (OG Ariel) in the voice department, and all the actors do a great job in their roles.
The most notable difference between the original and the remake is that Prince Eric gets significantly more screentime. This allows us to know his character much better. He is given a motivation that matches Ariel: both are feeling restricted by their conservative parents trying to squash their desire to explore new worlds. Where Aerial longs for the human world, Eric longs for the sea and other cultures. Eric even gets an "I Want" song (Wild Uncharted Waters). Eric's mother (the Queen) is similar to Triton: struggling to control their headstrong children, and I think that giving us this relationship benefits the film's themes.
The movie opens as the animated film does: with the crew of a sailing ship. However, instead of singing and partying, they are trying to harpoon a dolphin they mistake for a mermaid. In this version of the story, the merfolk and humans are in a kind of cold war. It is explicitly stated that Aerial's mother was killed by humans, thus King Triton hates all humans. While the humans blame the merfolk for the frequent shipwrecks around the island. This gives more weight to the reconciliation between people we will eventually get.
"Fathoms Below" is sung (yes, unlike a lot of Disney remakes, this version is still a musical). Then we go below to the world of the merfolk and a very CGI undersea world. (I do kind of wish the underwater scenes used some live-action footage, nature documentaries have proved its possible to get some spectacular footage of coral reefs). Atlantica, rather than being a gleaming golden palace, is covered in plant and animal life, which I think works better for an underwater world. Nothing would stay without barnacles and anemones for long, after all.
King Triton's adult daughters have gathered (each one is a different ethnicity and tail design. I'm not sure how mer genetics work in this movie), but Ariel, the youngest, is missing. She is, of course, exploring shipwrecks with her best friend Flounder. The World's Most Aggressive Shark attacks, and the two escape.
Scuttle appears (now a Gannet rather than a Seagull, and female rather than male, as she is voiced by Awkwafina) and gives the same incorrect advice as in the original.
Sebastian is assigned to watch over Ariel, and finds her in time for her to swim for the surface to watch Prince Eric's birthday party. Eric is, of course, kind and valiant and expresses his desire to explore rather than stay at home and be a boring King. Ariel is smitten instantly, and rescues him from the shipwreck that follows.
Ursula appears on and off in the opening scenes, watching over Ariel and helpfully monologuing her plans to remind us that yes, she is evil, and yes, she is the Bad Guy. (She is also apparently King Triton's sister. I really don't know how merfolk genetics work in this movie). It's a little heavy handed, but this is a family/kids movie. Melissa McCarthy (Ursula) seems to savor every moment she's on screen, which makes her fun to watch. The animation on Ursula's tentacles is also spectacular.
Sebastian sings a wonderful rendition of "Under the Sea" with some gorgeous visuals to convince Ariel to stay (though I question some of the ocean creatures used. Manatees? in the open ocean?)
We get the confrontation where King Triton destroys Ariel's treasure trove, pushing her straight into the arms of Ursula. We get "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (though without the iconic "Body Language!" line, sad to say). Though this time, Ariel gives up her voice as part of giving up her "mermaid gifts" as opposed to it being a form of payment. I think this is a weaker change (having to offer some sort of payment for a magical change makes more sense than it being an arbitrary thing that must go). Ariel is also given some selective amnesia, making her forget that she must get a kiss within three days (explaining why she's a bit of a ditz and doesn't seem to be trying all that hard to get that kiss).
The movie really uses its longer run time to flesh out Ariel's time in the human world. Her time with Prince Eric feels real and genuine. They share a fascination with the world and exploring it. Them pouring over maps in the study, laughing in the market, and dancing with the villagers feels genuine and makes me believe in their relationship more. The film also cuts out Sebastian's misadventures in the kingdom (including his little battle with Chef Louie) which I think is fine. The movie is, after all, about Ariel.
Ariel also gets a new song here (which is a little odd, considering she has no voice, but its made clear the song is her internal dialogue. Also it gives Halle Bailey more time to shine). "For the First Time" lets us see Ariel enjoying all the new discoveries of the human world.
We get a lovely "Kiss the Girl" sequence in the lagoon, followed by them sneaking back into the castle and giggling as they avoid Eric's mother. (also Grimsby is a gem in this, an onboard Eric/Ariel shipper)
Ursula dons her Vanessa disguise and bewitches Eric, but unlike the animated film, they never get quite as far as the actual wedding. During the reception Scuttle attacks (just Scuttle, she doesn't summon all the ocean creatures. It's a fine change). Then, Ariel gets to pounce on Vanessa/Ursula and snatch her voice back. It's nice to see Ariel get more agency.
A similar change happens in the big Climatic Final Battle, where instead of damsel-in-distress Ariel getting saved by Eric, it's the other way around. Ariel steers the ship into Ursula, saving Eric's life. Again, it's nice to see Ariel having more agency and taking matters into her own hands.
We, of course, get a happily ever after. But now, Ariel and Eric are headed out to explore the sea, meet new people, and find uncharted waters. Both King Triton and the Queen have learned to let their children go to be happy.
Now, were there some things I didn't like in this movie? A few, but most of it can be handwaved by this movie being a fantasy. For example: where the hell is Eric's kingdom? It's tropical (there's palm trees and rainforest) and on an island. It's apparently not part of Europe (Eric mentions trading with Europe), but features a very European palace. And all the villagers have Jamaican accents (is that where Sebastian gets it?). Ultimately it doesn't matter, it's just kind of weird.
The horse drawing their carriage also just apparently stays put whenever Eric and Ariel run off to have fun. What a good horse.
Scuttle also gets a song number, which is a rap shared with Daveed Diggs (Sebastian). It's apparently very divisive, but I thought it was fine and cute.
In the end, I think that this movie works well. It builds upon the themes of the original, expanding the world and fleshing out the characters. It doesn't feel bloated with extra scenes, the longer run time works to its advantage in giving us more time exploring our characters and their motivations. I like seeing more of Prince Eric's personality, and more of Ariel's fascination with the human world. (A common complaint lobbed at the original is that Ariel gives up her agency for love, but in both versions of the film, it is her father's overbearing possessiveness and destruction of her things that drives her to the Sea Witch. Ariel loves humans, not just Prince Eric)
A sequel or two has been suggested, and I am cautiously optimistic. If you're a fan of the original, I recommend the remake.

Mnemba Island & Zanzibar Mnemba island is single small island located about 3 km off the northeast coast of Unguja the largest island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania, opposite Muyuni Beach. It is roughly triangular in shape, about 500 metres (1,640 ft) in diameter and about 1.5 kilometres (0.9 mi) in circumference. It is surrounded by an oval reef seven by four kilometres in extent. These reefs have been declared a marine conservation area. Mnemba Island and its reef are sometimes called Mnemba Atoll which is incorrect because an atoll is an island that encircles a lagoon, which is not the case for Mnemba Island. Mnemba Island is a popular scuba diving site, with a wide variety of corals and associated species, as well as occasional sightings of larger species such as turtles and dolphins. Calm conditions are most frequent in November & March, with maximum visibility. Mnemba Island is a 90-minute drive from Stone Town across the main Zanzibar Island, before a twenty-minute boat crossing. The marine reserve comprises four distinct habitats which are home to a diverse array of Indian Ocean wildlife: Nesting place of threatened green sea turtles (monitoring and protection project has been underway since 1996) Humpback whales (July to September) Three species of dolphin Whale sharks (the world's largest fish) Migratory and resident shore birds feed and roost on the Island Approximately 600 species of coral reef fish. Green sea turtles can be seen laying their eggs on the beaches between February & September. #zanzibar #mnemba #scuba #happy #neverstopexploring #travel #spanishdancerdivers #paradise #oceanlife #ocean #divelife #explore #travelgram #wanderlust #instatravel #paditv #africa #islandlife #oceanlove #scubadiving #divinglife #instalike #cool #neverstoplearning #adventure #padi #instagood #island #oceano #scubalife (at Mnemba island snorkeling and Dolphins tour) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjieCDnKU-w/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

*aggressively studies SCPs to be a better doctor. No time for food or coffee, no motivation to get it atm anyway*
Tumblr media
So I actually have the attempted SCP I wrote not too terribly long ago and I’ve never posted it here before, but why not? If you’re interested in reading it, it’s under the cut. I’ll also accept critiques via PM if you wanna give advice and/or tips. Not sure if I’ll actually re-submit the SCP again, but I kinda like the idea for more personal use, so I dunno what I’ll actually do with it. Anyway, I’m trying to chill today due to issues and this is what my brain wanted to submit rn.
It’s...not written very well, so I do warn you all on that. I’m not a strong author. Blep.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: A parameter of six kilometers is to be guarded by 2 armed aquatic research vessels. The vessels’ primary location is to be outside of the ‘Yellow Zone’ and intersect any unauthorized ships within 13 nautical miles. No fewer than 30 functioning trail cameras are to be stationed along the island with 4 along the east and west cliffs, 2 on the cove’s beach, 2 outside of the research building, and 22 throughout marked points upon the island with the majority facing man-made trails, the beaches, and the sea. A team including a clearance level 3 researcher, marine biologist, oceanographer, and 3 researchers are to be staffed at all times at the research site stationed near the center of the island. 4 armed guards are to be stationed on the shore of SCP-XXXX. The staff is to be rotated with new personnel every six months with a renewal of supplies. This rotation cannot fall between the 20th and 25th day of SCP-XXX last active status.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a cove located off of the coast of ███ ███████ on a small island that is approximately ██ kilometers in length and built of mostly cliff faces and forests. SCP-XXXX’s beach is approximately 1.6 kilometers in length with the surrounding cliffs ranging from 4 to 30 meters high with the tallest settled on both sides of the beach. The waters off of SCP-XXXX’s beach have been mapped into two sections with these being the ‘Red Zone’ and the ‘Yellow Zone’. The ‘Yellow Zone’ spans outward of approximately 30 kilometers from the edges of SCP-XXXX’s beach and goes out as far as nearly ██ kilometers out to sea and 2 kilometers inland. The ‘Red Zone’ spans the length of SCP-XXXX’s beach and is currently unknown how far this zone spans out to sea.
These zones only display their anomalous features for a span of 24 hours after day 24 of its ‘inactive’ state. During the ‘active’ state, all electronics, machinery, and other man-made equipment including navigation devices will begin to experience malfunctions and incorrect readings. Within 15 kilometers of the ‘Red Zone’, living organism including humans subjects will begin to experience disorientation, nausea, hallucinations, and paranoia leading to potential violent actions to others, themselves, and their equipment. This same reaction also seems to have an effect along the cliffs adjacent to SCP-XXXX’s beach higher than 5 meters up. The ‘Red Zone’s full anomalous effects are currently unknown due to lack of successful recordings, but always results in total engine failure and the sinking of sea vessels. This has lead to a loss of all aerial and sea vessel transportation that have entered into the ‘Red Zone’.
SCP-XXXX has two states that its anomalous features are classified as, ‘active’ and ‘inactive’. During the ‘inactive’ state, SCP-XXXX shows no anomalous properties and will appear as a normal island cove. This state of inactivity will span over 24 days. On day 25, SCP-XXXX begins its ‘active’ state at 0:00 where the seawater within the ‘Red Zone’ will begin to recede and uncover a maze-like structure composed of rock, different species of coral, and an unidentified coral-like component with luminescent properties that come in a deep purple, yellow, and blue color. The exposed seabed is also vastly different in comparison with new usual geological structures and a lack of expected remnants of seashells, debris, and stranded marine life. Along with the new structural formation of the maze, the seabed also slopes downward at a roughly 10-degree angle with no drop where the usual shelf normally ends. As of this time, it is unknown how deep the maze extends and if there are any changes in its slope degree.
Outside of the ‘Red Zone’, the seawater still remains at its usual state defying normally displayed physics and current understanding of gravity, thus creating a form of ‘wall of water’ along both sides of the maze. Waves and tides have even been observed along with marine life thriving as usual.
Due to the decline of the sloped ground of the ‘Red Zone’, its wall of seawater at each side increases in measurement and is thought to be a contribution the dimming of light observed as the maze reaches a lower depth. This, however, does not explain the cause of the maze being unviewable with a ‘black haze’ filling its place along the visible horizon and its reasoning is still unknown.
Recorded explorations have brought some insight into the structure of the ‘Red Zone’ from within. Though recording devices and radio along with basic electronics and equipment seemed to function without issue, other more complicated devices and any form of image capturing from within the maze has resulted in failure. It’s currently unknown why this is and the reasoning for the differences. These exploration logs are attached at the bottom.
Addendum
As of the result of exploration #3, no exploration teams are to travel deeper than ██ kilometers into the maze.
As of now, all exploration teams are to exit the maze fully by 23:00 during SCP-XXXX’s active state.
//The exploration logs have been left out due to space issues, but I can provide if wanted via the full article in PM.//

Installation of Garage Doors
Installing a garage door isn't a thing that could be done without having the qualified help of someone who is expert and experienced in it. A garage door expert will have sufficient hands on working experience to properly install or repair your garage door. Incorrect installation of a garage door could generate a hazardous situation. You'll find several precautionary measures that must be kept in consideration while maintaining garage doors.
Tumblr media
Children or tiny pets or animals may be caught beneath the closing door or get themselves hurt, therefore, while closing the door, it should be closed properly. Give sufficient time for closing while you're doing it with a remote control transmitter or push button and look closely for a complete shutdown. If the door does not shut off completely you may also risk finding your garage flooded and you could be using up much more energy than necessary because of the inadequate insulation.
The opener must be given special attention while using the door. If the door feels heavy and much more power is necessary to open the door than usual, there might be an issue with the balance or appropriate realignment of the door. Acknowledging the problem, a professional technician must be contacted to analyze and correct the problem. Self adjustments or just keeping it heavy could trigger much more hazardous scenarios in the end. A more powerful garage opener is not the solution as keeping the proper adjustment and balance of the door will be the only way out.
Garage doors are generally set up with sensitivity sensors. These doors are set up with this powerful safety measure, as if there's some hindrance or blockage while door operations, it should revert back. This would be to sense any blockage or presence of someone. If it does not move in reverse direction upon obstruction, the sensitivity sensors should be either adjusted properly or proper servicing needs to be scheduled, otherwise this could result in a really harmful situation. In recent times and especially after 1993, the safety reverse function is set up for each and every garage door.
If a remote control feature is installed on the door, then this remote control unit must be stored with extreme care, as putting it in the incorrect spot or in wide open access to everybody not only will it result in loss, but it may cause damage as well. Kids should be trained accordingly not to play with remote control unit as inappropriate and inadequate usage or careless handling can cause severe damage not only in terms of parts and material loss, but it might also open the access to possible thieves. A secured enclosure is suggested to hold the remote unit safe and in control.
There's a unique feature in remote-controlled units. The frequency keeps on rolling and after each usage, the door remote unit changes the frequency, therefore this changing frequency cannot be pre recorded by thieves, who sometimes after recoding the frequency could get access to your garages. This is referred to as Rolling Code Technology. Most remote control transmitters are now equipped with this.

Day 81 – the Rant
WARNING: This blog post may contain multiple instances of ranting by entitled prima donnas. It may be inappropriate for those suffering through lockdown and may induce nausea. However, if you relish in schadenfreude or hate us for taking this trip, this one’s for you.
In the morning, we were woken by housekeeping coming to make up our room. S told them to come back at 10:30am, when we would be at breakfast. However, J looked at her phone and realised it was 10:27am. We quickly got dressed and dashed off so as not to miss breakfast. On the positive side, by being this late, we would probably miss being seated by the large families. Not a minute later, a German family was seated next to us. However, their child was always in a pram or a highchair and was well behaved.
S was very disappointed when after waiting for his scrambled eggs to be cooked and ordering them ‘soft’ / ‘runny’, they were fully cooked and dry. At least we are not on full board. J spent about half an hour trying to peel her hardboiled eggs, which were served hot, and were therefore impossible to peel.
We are now settled in and think we have the measure of this place. The facilities are clearly 5 star, with the possible exception of the pool, but it isn’t open anyhow. The beach is full of coral, rocks and spiny sea urchins. There is no way S can navigate the beach safely, so he is relegated to our private, clothing-optional pool for the duration of our stay.
Moreover, the service here struggles to be 2 stars and may be 1 star. The only proper service we’ve had to date is from the housekeeping staff, one bartender and three waiters. The breakfast staff is not very friendly and don’t listen to your order. The concierge are downright rude / ambivalent. They tell you things are available when they aren’t, and when activities are cancelled, they don’t bother telling you until you show up. If you stand in front of their desk, they simply ignore you. Because of COVID, the beach bar is shut and you can’t get drink service at the beach.
The food quality is 2 stars. We have had two meals which might be categorised as 3 – 4 stars, but the rest is probably 1 star. The food tends to be either inedible or bland, tasteless and incorrectly made. There is no doubt the hotel is cutting corners due to COVID and using cheap or incorrect ingredients. Despite that, they are charging full, pre-COVID prices. For example, $65 per person for an Indian buffet, not including drinks. On the other hand, the drinks in the bar are well made and reasonably priced, so you may want to drink to numb the pain and kill your tastebuds. Uncharacteristically, we are going to try room service as it can’t be worse than the restaurants that are open tonight. And this is coming from two people who are not foodies and don’t like room service.
In short, we would highly recommend you not come to this resort if: (1) you are a couple (as the children outnumber the adults); (2) if you are hypersensitive to mosquitoes; (3) if you are sight impaired and can’t navigate a beach filled with coral, rocks and sea urchins; and (4) until they dramatically improve the service and food quality. That said, it might be good for people who want to try a starvation diet.
We never thought we would say this, but this place makes us long for Sandals. Even the worst parts of Sandals were never as bad as the service and food at this place and we met so many nice people. We doubt we will meet anyone here.
We went for happy hour, which we enjoy as it tends to be pretty quiet and the drinks are good. While S took a quick call with a friend, J decided to practice playing pool. Someone forgot to tell the bar that a proper pool table generally has 15 balls, INCLUDING an 8 ball. By chance, we asked about service of food at the bar and they advised they serve the room service menu at the bar. As we don’t like to eat in our room, we decided to order room service at the bar. We opted not to go with the ‘peri peri chicken’ pizza with guacamole and orange zest. J had the burger and fries and S had the spaghetti bolognese. These were actually decent. J’s fries were excellent, S ended up eating lots of them with those little bottles of room service ketchup. The bartender confirmed that these are ‘jungle kittens’ and only stick around because guests give them food.
Hoping to end the night on a quiet note after a peaceful dinner, we were shocked into reality when the families all showed up in the bar after their dinner. We are resigned that we are in a family resort where even the bar is not a refuge for adults. We hate to sound like whingers when many of our friends are in lockdown, but given how much we are paying and the hoops we had to jump through to be able to come here on our third attempt, this is shocking.
When we leave the Labriz we have one night at the Northolme on the main island, Mahe, so J wanted to doublecheck if it was better. Amusingly, the Northolme’s ‘favourite review’ on Tripadvisor gave the Northolme a 5 and Labriz a 3. Even its sister property is slagging this place off.
On the plus side, J only got two mosquito bites today. WIN! Going forward, we’ve decided that it’s better to laugh than to cry, so we are now going to revel in all things shambolic at the Hilton Labriz.

Who Am I? Use The Enneagram With Yoga To Find Your Answer
In a suitable globe, we 'd constantly think as well as act from an area of knowledge and also entirety. Yet in the real life, deep-rooted patterns and characteristic could hinder. Enter the Enneagram, an individuality evaluation that could aid you see what's maintaining you from realizing your most authentic, greatest self. Here's how you can use it, in addition to your yoga exercise technique, to change course.
Coral Brown, a yoga instructor and qualified mental-health therapist in Rhode Island, utilizes the word" co-dependent" to describe her previous enchanting partnership, which lasted more compared to a decade. Yet at the time, she really did not realize she was in such a pattern of over-giving that she was losing herself. While her yoga exercise method helped shine a light on this tendency, Brown claims studying the Enneagram-- a four-decade-old personality-assessment system-- likewise disclosed that it was time to carry on from the partnership. "The Enneagram enabled me to really see my core patterns," claims Brown, "eventually aiding me fulfill my requirements in a much healthier, more aware method than ever in the past."
The name Enneagram comes from the Greek words ennea, a prefix for "nine," and also gramma, suggesting "to draw." The system's symbol is a nine-pointed star, each point representing an unique character type. Most Enneagram professionals concur we are all birthed with one dominant personality kind (or number), which largely identifies just how we discover how to adjust to our environment as well as the people in it. The Enneagram surfaced in the United States in the 1970s, riding the tails of the human-potential motion (think treatment, encounter groups, and also primitive scream). Ever since, therapists, spiritual educators, coaches, or even organisations have made use of the Enneagram as a device to stir authenticity, subject core motivations, and ultimately reduce social conflict. Exactly how can a basic individuality examination do all this?
" There's resistance to transform within all of us, as well as the Enneagram explains just what that resistance has to do with for each people," states Peter O'Hanrahan, a prominent global Enneagram instructor and trainer. "As a result, this system provides you really clear info concerning what you require to work with." To wit, when Brown found out more about her Enneagram number-- a 2-- she was better able to see her core pattern of providing to others to really feel great about herself, which realization gave her a choice: do something concerning her unseen areas, or ignore them. She decided to act. "I left my companion, and I found even more of my own identification in my yoga exercise teaching," states Brown. "I was more aligned with my truer purpose as well as nature."
Susan Piver, author of the reflection guide Start Here Now as well as a meditation educator who leads retreats on the Enneagram, claims the kind of alignment Brownish seasoned is exactly what yoga is about at its core. "The Enneagram will tell us what we could not see regarding ourselves-- our means of being that come from our most damaged selves, which produce confusion because of this," claims Piver. As well as if you want to look at these injuries, which are usually rooted in unexamined pain, you can begin to chart a new, extra authentic course onward, she says. "At a certain point-- particularly if you get on a spiritual course-- you have to do this," Piver says. Keep reading to locate out how.
Self-Inquiry: Who Am I?
The work of the Enneagram begins with finding out your number, which basically represents just how you present yourself to others, where your focus goes when you silent down, as well as just what causes your actions. Piver, for instance, is a 4, which means her chief issue is envy. "Before I understood I was a 4, I utilized to believe that just what I wished for would make me pleased," she says. "Currently, I have the ability to see the hoping itself as an indication that I'm uncertain, unhappy, or pain, and also that I can turn my focus within instead of seeking something outside. This assists me notice when I need to take better care of myself."
In enhancement to disclosing adverse patterns and deep injuries, the Enneagram likewise highlights your best toughness. As an example, when Piver's envy is brought right into equilibrium, it ends up being the much more developed variation of itself: equanimity. "Envy as well as equanimity get on a continuum," she says. As well as these continuums exist for every one of the numbers, which means that on a regular basis looking for balance in between your strengths as well as blind places is the essential to living a much more straightened, genuine life.
Even better, all of this self-reflection comes with boosted communication with other individuals. That's why Piver calls the Enneagram an upaya, Sanskrit for "experienced methods." While she warns against utilizing the system to label somebody, she says it can be a valuable device to browse interaction blocks. For instance: "My companion is a One, as well as Ones are focused on right and also incorrect," claims Piver. "I'm a 4, and also Fours are concentrated on significance. If we enter a debate, I intend to talk and also comprehend, but I can not do that with him until I acknowledge what went wrong-- that I see where the bad move happened. That is very beneficial to him because everything in him desires to get to the base of the right and wrong in order to fix it." As soon as Piver's companion's needs have actually been dealt with, they could then have the kind of conversation that also functions for her.
Ultimately, the Enneagram could aid us release the limited hold we have on our variation of points. "It's difficult to recognize an individual's make-up when you are only looking at it with your very own lens," states Piver. "But suppose you were told, 'Below are 9 lenses-- which one do you think he or she is browsing?' It provides you a means to allow go of expectations to ensure that an extra real exchange can transpire. It produces concern."
Put the Enneagram Into Practice

Best Things to do in Panama: Tourist Attractions
Best Things to do in Panama
Ready for the best things to do in Panama and the top tourist attractions? Wedged between the Central and South American border is one of my all time favourite countries, I hope you enjoy and looking forward to your comments below.
Upon my arrival to Panama, I had the initial intention to briefly pass through and stop off at a few ‘hot spots’ along the way.
I was excited to continue onto South America after spending the last 8 months traveling through Central American countries, by that stage I felt like Panama wasn’t going to be much different from everything else I had experienced since Mexico.
How wrong I was…
I absolutely loved backpacking my way through Panama! For a small country it really does have more diversity of tropical beaches, rainforests and a buzzing cosmopolitan city.
It was refreshing to spend time in Panama and it was the closest thing to feeling like home in a while of being on the road for so long.
A local fiesta event in Panama City
For me, the best thing about Panama is: the people. They are such a friendly bunch, always happy and always helping you where ever they can.
Keep your wits about you as you wander the streets of Panama city and be mindful of not staying out alone too late in the night as you party in the smaller coastal towns – but really, these are recommendations for every country and place.
I loved Panama, and second to Mexico it was a highlight of my Central America adventure.
Bocas del Toro
Traveling to Panama: Best things to see and do!
In my experience the absolute top tourist attraction in Panama is to visit Bocas del Toro. A small collection of islands in the Northern side is where the rainforests meets the blue Caribbean ocean. A favorite spot for scuba divers, and as the dives are shallow, it’s particularly suited for particularly for beginners.
An extensive coral reef features colorful varieties of tropical fish and warm crystal clear waters makes for a great way to spend an afternoon. Its everything you will expect from traveling to a Caribbean Town and one of the best attractions to see in Panama. From the main town of Bocas you can take small boats out to the surrounding Islands.
I had heard other travellers raving about how visiting Red Frog Beach is not only the best beach but also one the most popular tourist attractions in Panama. So I paid the $10USD boat ride to take me there (visiting all other Island will cost you only $2.00USD).
Arriving at the dock I then had to pay another $10.00USD entry fee to the “National park” which turn out to be somewhat incorrect because I later found out the island is privately owned and isn’t a National Park at all. There were also no ATM’s on the island so I was lucky I had enough cash with me to get back to the mainland. After walking around for awhile I found no reason to stay there and the beach that I had heard so many good things about was at best a 3/10.
Traveling to Bocas I would advise you spend more time at Start-Fish beach and Isla Bastimentos partying with the locals and go snorkeling around the Zapatilla Cayes.
Top tourist attractions in Panama: Zapatilla Beach, Bocas del Toro
Getting there: If you are coming to see the top tourist attractions in Panama from Costa Rica, there are a few different travel options from San Jose.  I recommend taking an earlier bus (6am-8am) leaving from San Jose to Sixaola allowing for any delays before getting to the Panama border crossing which closes at 4pm.
Another hour away from the border is the small town of Almirante where is you catch a lancha (small boat) to Bocas Town with the last boat leaving at 5pm.
From Sixaolo to Almirante you can take a local bus for $3.00USD or a direct shuttle for $15.00USD, if you’re pressed for time I highly recommend taking the shuttle because trust me you DO NOT want to spend the night in Almirante.
Panama City
Best things to do in Panama: The night sky lighting up Panama city
Casco Viejo Neighborhood has houses with framed balconies, brick streets, and quiet plazas of the historic district.  Casco Viejo has a European air, and the neighborhood’s ancient churches and monasteries stand as testimony to the country’s rich colonial history. It is here where you will find the city’s nicest restaurants and bars.
The Panama Canal is over 80km long, the interoceanic canal is literally Panama’s biggest attraction. There are half a dozen spots in or near the capital from which to admire it.
Shopping! One of the best things to do in Panama is go shopping! After months of traveling I decided that Panama has the best shopping in all Central America (for me anyways). Make a trip to El Dorado area for restaurants, bars and shops. Theres also the Multicentro and MetroMall where you can find discounts on designer labels and global brands like Zara, H&M and Nike.
Isla de Coiba and the Pacific Islands
A deep sea dive with some of the Panama locals
Many people miss out on traveling to the Pacific Coast thinking that the top things to do in Panama are on the Caribbean side. However the Pacific side has just as much, if not more to offer in terms of the Panama tourist attractions (without the tourists).
Firstly, there are much less tourists which means more availability on accommodation and cheaper prices all round for most things. I also felt like I had a more cultured experiences on the Pacific side as you get more of a chance to meet locals and experience Panama away from the tourist traps of the gringo trail.
The waters of Panama are unmatched in their level of marine diversity on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, although nowhere is this more evident than in the Coiba National Marine Park on the Pacific Coast. The island of Coiba is the largest island in the park, as well as the largest island in all of Central America and one of the best Panama attractions.
The Pacific coast of Panama is one of the best places to visit for diving, snorkeling and surfing
More than 800 species of marine life are present in the area. The park is known as one of the best places to enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving on the Pacific Coast.
I would highly recommend spending a few days exploring the hidden gem islands around Coiba such as Boca Chica and Isla Cebaco. These islands were chance discoveries I stumbled upon after chatting with some locals and in the end they turned out to be some of the best things to do in Panama during my trip.
Also these Islands are just below the beautiful mountain town of Boquete and close to the direct link towns such as David and Santiago where you can catch a direct bus to Panama City.
Sail the San Blas Islands
One of the many Islands of the San Blas – A must see place for your visit to Panama!
The archipelago of San Blas is one of the top things to do in Panama! A set of 365 small islands located off the north coast of the Isthmus , east of the Panama Canal. San Blas is home to the indigenous Guna, part of the region Guna Yala along the Caribbean coast of Panama.
Some islands are so small that they only have one palm tree on them.
Located 30 to 45 minutes by boat from the port in Panama City, there are options to explore the islands in one day tours or embark on a 5-7 day adventure traveling through the islands. You then venture out across the open ocean to reach the northern coastline of Colombia.
Longer tours are all inclusive and range from $350 – $500 USD for the week.
San blas Islands in Panama
Boquete
The town lookout of Boquete, Panama
A stunning mountain town in the middle of the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Boquete is a pretty little town just to visit but it mainly attracts adventure tourists and coffee enthusiasts.
Because of the cool climate in Boquete serves as a perfect coffee region and this is where you can take many coffee tours around farms and learn about some the best coffee in Central America and see other popular attractions in Panama.
Los Cangilones Mini-Canyon in Boquete
There are also waterfall and mountain hikes that take you so high you will have views out onto both sides of the seas. I spent a day at a a mini canyon called Cangilones. This rock crevice over a river is a popular place for rock climbing and umping back into the water.
A great way to spend a day with friends, take a picnic though as theres no food options until you head back into town.
I hope this article helps with planning your travels and make sure you check out these top five destinations and the best things to do in Panama. Looking forward to reading your comments below!

Garage Door Repair - On Troubleshooting
Installing an auto door machine needs lots of cash, and so does change them. That is why it can be a headache in case your cutting-edge unit is not working efficiently as anticipated. In case you are looking to make any important decisions, check out Garage Door Repair and troubleshooting checklist.
Go searching
The initial thing you've to do is to look around for external reasons as to why the garage door is failing to operate smoothly. You'll be surprised at how many issues can arise due to small tools lodged in the door.
Smooth Up
Normally, a thick gooey substance accumulates at the rollers and the tracks of the garage door. It is the result of exposure to dust and the lubricants used for renovation. The resulting friction may also purpose the equipment to come to be stuck. You could put off the substance through using regular household cleaning agents or moderate soap. While you operate a cleaning agent for the rollers, make certain you dry the entirety thoroughly.
Lubricate moving parts
On occasion, the mechanism does not painting well because the shifting components lack sufficient lubrication. You need to Lubricate to achieve two times a month to avoid getting whatever on the plastic idler bearings. You can use powdered graphite at the tracks and family oil is right for the rollers. Take care as you try this system to avoid any issues described in step 2.
Test Springs
During the garage door repair exercise, you have to test the cables and extension springs as well. Extension springs are those who can be observed on either side of the door, going for walks from a pulley. Ensure that the cables plus springs aren't rusty. If they may be, you can need to make a cell phone call to a nearby professional to determine if they require cleaning or need to get replaced. Make sure you replace the springs in pairs so there may not be an imbalance. There may be, however, any other spring gadget in use for maximum garage systems, and that is the torsion spring. It is a high-anxiety spring that might be complex to repair; in which case, the professional technician is probably wanted.
Tighten Down
Garage doors, much like many other things, are subjected to wear and tear. Bolts, hinges, as well as screws aren't an exception since you use your garage door very frequently. Test all the screws and bolts on your garage door. There are times when tightening loose nuts might be a problem. If you cannot tighten the bolts and nuts due to unfastened holes, you can get in touch with Garage Door Repair. Confirm if the hinges are sagging. Alter or update them in the process of repairing other parts. For garage doors hinge, make sure the wooden, where the hinges are well-attached is in an excellent situation as nicely.
Study The Tracks
When searching for dents and bumps in the metallic tracks. Take a look at the alignment as well and faucet affected areas lower back into a zone when viable. Garage systems are 7 tons of metal, plastic, or wooden, commonly a combination of all 3. So it could take some detective paintings to find out what it is incorrect. With this checklist, you may need less time. If you are not an expert, consult a garage door repair service provider or visit on-line fronts for an estimate for repairs.
