Top Gun!Pacific Rim au where Goose used to be the other half of Mav's jaeger and, after he dies, he promises, to himself, Carole and little Bradley, he won't pilot with anyone else. Carole doesn't ask him but he almost feels obliged in her regards.

He gets back in the program, years later, not because he wants to but because they find him and he has nowhere else to escape. The jaegers are new, the pilots are new, the rooms are new and there's not a single trace of him and Goose in that same corridors. It's a relief that makes his heart ache painfully in an equal way.

Finding his new parter is another story because while there are a lot of good candidates no one clicks and Mav is sure no one will ever clicked like Goose did until, until a tall blond cocky bastard doesn't swip him on the gym mat and it's done. It will be him or nothing even if he'll have to fight with words and brasses to have him right by his side during the next attack.
