“This 98-year-old woman has had a total of 622 ‘descendants’…because at age 16 she married a 50-year-old widower with 10 children, SOME OF WHOM WERE OLDER THAN HER AND HAD THEIR OWN KIDS ALREADY, and then had 13 more children by him, but news outlets report on it like a cute human interest story”
sounds like an SNL skit where the “straight man” character gets increasingly disturbed while everyone else acts happy and charmed
And. Fucking. Yet.

im so glad that we never get a clear picture of sophie’s background in leverage & i hope we never do. however i also really like making up various, often conflicting backstories for her in my head. perhaps they’re all backstories for an alias of hers, ones she laid to rest back in season two.
#leverageposting#leverage#lev#sophie devereaux#wren speaks#particularly that one of or both her parents had to move around a lot for work & so she would change herself to fit in at every new school#or new town etc etc. and that whatever original identity she had was dropped due to some kind of really awful event and her bio family think#she’s dead. eg she got into some kind of extreme legal trouble for the first time & she faked her death & everyone she knew as a kid thinks#she’s dead too. like. astrid wasn’t the first person she left to miss/mourn her.#but also that she was a teen runaway at like age ~16 and pretended to be an adult (like. 18/19) cause theres not much you can do by yourself#as a minor like booking flights or renting an apartment. and so began her first proper alias. and she was a pickpocket until she could fund#her life fully through grifting & cons.#or alternatively her parents died when she was a teen & she was old enough to become an emancipated minor (everyone in lev is an orphan)#and she kind of just fell into crime from there bc she had no one#or perhaps she got married at 17 and realised how fucked it all was and stashed money until she could run away & leave it all behind. that’s#bc of a single vague sentence on john rogers’ blog saying she was married at 17 and in context it was quite possibly a joke or random#hypothetical example but i was like what if???? What If???????#i also like the hc that she’s trans which i’ve seen a few times#in some versions in my mind her parents were okay and in some versions they were awful and in some versions it was so complicated.#i think tara has heard one story and parker or hardison have heard another and nate has never heard any story. he’s never asked.#she is here now and that’s all that needs knowing. and sophie devereaux is her real name in any way it matters.#eliot has also never asked and she asked if he was curious once and he just asked if she was curious about What He Did and that was answer#enough for the both of them. just a mutual agreement not to ask and it actually solidified their bond.#i think she struggled for a long time about whether to tell her new family The Real Story but in much the same way we never hear her birth#name bc it’s not Her anymore… she never gives The Real Story. bc it no longer defines who she is. she’s so much more than whatever happened.

I’m actually curious to see if, and honestly hope, in s2 (whenever that may come out. Studios pay your writers and actors) we get some sort of callback or allusion to the rumor that Jacaerys tried to convert Cregan from the old gods to the faith of the seven.
Not because I care about the gods, outside the religious symbolism they bring. I only want to see people’s reactions. Namely the ones who act as if Alicent is the first woman to ever openly practice the faith. Because I have a feeling those same people will paint Jace possibly doing that as endearing versus Alicent who gets painted as a monster for her connection to the faith. The most we see Alicent doing a redecorating her home. Mind you, not even every room because you can clearly see the tacky tapestries in Viserys’ room in ep 8. Plus we see her praying and wearing religious iconography. Things that are not out of the ordinary… at all. She’s honestly your textbook highborn noble woman during that time. She was born and raised in Oldtown ffs. What is she supposed to follow if not the faith💀
She gets seen as this horrible zealot out to destroy the Targaryens through the faith, and to me that is just indicative on how badly people misinterpret Alicent’s feelings/motivations.
People can have their problems with the writing in hotd. I know there are certain things I have problems with myself. But when can we start being honest about how a lot of the conversations that are regurgitated and argued about day after day have less to do with the writing, and more to do with bad faith viewing. People are watching to see what they want to see, not what is actually in front of them.
Anyone with an objective view of Alicent would be able to tell how much she clings to the faith for salvation and hope. She does it to feel close to her mother, and very kindly/cautiously tries to help Rhaenyra with that too. She then reaffirms her faith after 1. She (imo justifiably) loses her shit at Driftmark and feels guilty about it, and 2. Has to marry her children to each other. Something she expresses thinking is immoral in the past. We even see her cut her hair, more than likely as a means of punishment and repentance. She’s miserable and has very few lifelines to hold onto.
How that gets twisted into her being a bigot because she doesn’t want to see dragons having orgies on her walls is beyond me.
Also the idea she is trying to bring down House Targaryen is nuts, but also laughable. Because between her and her actual Targaryen husband, Alicent is the one affirming her childrens’ Targaryen heritage. She makes sure Aemond knows he will get a dragon one day. She makes sure Aegon gets Blackfyre and his namesake’s crown. It seems like Aemond, and more than likely her other kids, know Valyrian. Ironically, the most anti targ (and frankly valid) sentiments we get are from Viserys. He speaks on the doom, fears what is to come, and how they never should have messed with dragons.
Alicent ‘let the people remember the ancient strength of House Targaryen’ Hightower is not the Baelor y’all want her to be. And if she was, it would’ve worked in her favor more. People tend to leave out the part where the most beloved Targaryens (by their people) were partly that because of their connection to the faith. Ya know the thing Targaryens also practice.

My sea shanty interest was reignited and I was like “:O Boston is a coastal town I can make a sailor oc!!” And promptly remembered Far Harbour exists and so now she is there :)
She left the mainland after nearly destroying the entire commonwealth for her kiddo Eliza. Blew up the Prydwen, Railroad, nearly collapsed the Minutemen, and eventually destroyed the Institute when they created a synth version of her husband and she realized just how much they were manipulating her. She left Eliza with Nick and fucked off North, a good fifty miles past the Nakano residence, where she fixes up an old boat and fishes the days away in solitude. Nick eventually finds her a year or two later and needs her boat to head to far harbour to find Kasumi Nakano, and they get stranded there together cuz a sea monster basically ate her boat :)
Anyway she’s also from Newfoundland and Labrador, got military training from soldiers she helped guide through the Northwest Passage, and commonly goes by “The Lobstermonger” in Far Harbour due to her hiding her identity out of shame for all she’s done. I <3 her I’m sorry

Now watch me project an entire personality onto this male character that shows up for a single scene! Never ever forget she takes his name after marriage like the good devoted wife she is! Respect!” Like helloooooo. Can anybody hear me.

Honestly I’m still so baffled by that person who shamed me for being a John Lennon fan and hating on Yoko because
1. I’m not a John fan, and he’s my least favorite Beatle actually
2. But at least John had actual real talent and he didn’t fuck his way to fame, because if you don’t think that’s exactly what Yoko was all about you are Delusional
3. Also, John admitted to his faults and actively took steps to be a better person and take care of his mental health however he could. Yoko never did - and never gave a fuck about improving as a person.
4. “Yoko was not an abuser!” Well, she pushed him to get addicted to heroin, manipulated him into not talking to Paul and into abandoning Julian, which is arguably worse than anything John ever did.
5. Everything Yoko does is for her own benefit and she’s ruined several projects because she needed to be at the center of it, and I’m not talking about her being in the studio for Let It Be. I’m talking about her meddling into all the business post-breakup and after John’s death. Not to mention how she didn’t allow any of John’s family, Cynthia and Julian to be there for his funeral. That is unforgivable. She fucking FORBADE HIS FAMILY not just from seeing him, but also even from saying goodbye. Fuck Yoko and fuck you if you defend her.
That person also called me a misogynist… no, I’m just an enemy to narcissistic abusers, which she absolutely is. Matter of fact, I’m team Cynthia, Julian and Sean first (because it’s not Sean’s fault that his mother is a fucking evil cunt), team May Pang second, team John third and I’m not team Yoko at all. I love and care for John’s wife, children and fling more than i love him. Is that still misogyny, fucker? No it’s not. Fuck you. And you can’t call me racist either because May Pang is Asian just as much as Yoko is, and I have a lot of respect for May. She did more for John’s mental health in a week than Yoko might have done in 10 years, and she was the superior choice for him. Unfortunately he was so hooked on drugs and on the harmful “therapies” she got him into that he became unable to be himself for a real long time. That’s manipulation at its finest.

Controversial opinion but I think there’s a better case for Elizabeth Woodville marry Edward IV because she was an ambitious social-climber than Anne Boleyn marrying Henry VIII but the reason people don’t think of Elizabeth in that way is because Edward wasn’t already married and Elizabeth was lucky enough to have many healthy children

So I've just had a thought. Humor me if you would. I want to know what you'd think about this.
As we all know, in muggle world, the men are, in General, stronger and bigger than women and thus always used their biological advantages over women to control them, right.
But in the wizarding world, witches have the same magic capabilities as the men, hindering them from strong-arming women into being subservient. With magic being like an equalizer, dont you think females in the wizarding world are more liberated than muggle women? I mean obviously it's still not perfect, with arranged marriages and other such issues, but the men are victims of that too in the wizarding world.
This is a super interesting concept to consider ! I agree, I think women and men in the wizarding world are fairly equal in terms of abilities and all that, but I can imagine that time period offered its own trials and tribulations for witches and wizards alike. It was probably a bit restrictive for everyone involved— especially women— but muggle women undoubtedly would have it rough.
There was a feminist movement that took place in the 1850s that focused on equality in education/work/electoral rights and all that, but Queen Victoria actually didn’t support it in any way. Her official take on the whole thing was to call feminism a ‘wicked folly’ and she claimed that ‘men and women were created differently— so they should remain each in their own position’. I’m sure muggle women struggled to get a leg up in society as a result, whereas (from what we’ve seen in game) witches in the wizarding world were able to work, own their own businesses, and a slew of other things that probably don’t fit our idea of what was considered ‘normal’ during that time.
So tldr; yeah, I think women in the wizarding world had a degree more freedom than muggle ladies. They certainly had their own struggles and hurdles to overcome, but I don’t think it was anything like what non-magical women had to deal with
