How to buy K merch in the Year 2024
I got several asks about this so rather than do each individually, I’ve decided to just make one big How to Buy K Merch in the Year 2024 post. I’m going to skip over the more obvious western sites like eBay and focus more on Japanese sites here. Because there hasn’t been much new K merch in some time keep in mind that most of what you will be looking for is secondhand, which means availability will vary.
Shopping Services
For some of these sites you will need a shopping service, so we’ll start there. This is by no means a comprehensive list of available shopping services, just ones I’ve used and liked.
FromJapan - This one is very straightforward — copy and paste the url of the item you want into their search bar. For anything in certain sites like Rakuten this will pull up a page that will give you the item and its price in your currency and you can just click add to cart. For other sites you may need to request a price quote, there’s a small form to fill out and they’ll get back to you on if they can order it. Timing depends on when you make the request. The nice thing about FromJapan is they will hold items for you for 45 days, so you can collect multiple purchases from multiple sites over time and have them all shipped at once. The bad side is that after 45 days they will discard your items, so keep an eye on when your oldest item arrived (you can see how long it’s been at their warehouse on your account page, and they will email you as the deadline gets close too).
Treasure Japan - Treasure Japan is a much smaller service than the others on this list but also the one I’ve used the longest. Being a smaller service means they tend to be more able to purchase items that might have seller restrictions, particularly from places like Mercari. Some listings when pasted into other shopping service sites will have a ‘cannot purchase from this seller’ warning, because some sellers don’t want to deal with shopping services. I haven’t had much trouble with this merchandise-wise, but when I’ve run into it with j-fashion Treasure Japan has been able to order when the bigger services couldn’t. Their site is set up so you will input different sites in different sections, there’s one for auction, one for ‘flea market’ (this will be places like Mercari) and one for shopping sites.
Buyee/Tenso - Buyee is a shopping service, Tenso is a forwarding service. They’re owned by the same parent company but are separate sites and you’ll need a separate account for each. Buyee is directly integrated with some sites like Mercari and Yahoo Japan, you can put in the url into their search bar and get a listing that you can buy immediately. Like FromJapan, any sites outside of the ones they’re integrated into will require you to request a quote (I found this more difficult with Buyee than FromJapan, personally) and they will sometimes be unable to purchase items. They will hold your items for 30 days at no charge, and you can request to consolidate packages for shipping.
Tenso, as I said above, is a forwarding service and somewhat more complicated. Basically when you sign up they will give you a Japanese address (presumably one of their warehouses) and you can then buy directly from Japanese websites, inputting the address you were given in the address field and paying with your own credit card. The items will be shipped to Tenso and from there you can have them sent to you. Obviously this is more complicated than a shopping service. I’ve used it mainly for things that didn’t involve an item being shipped (this is how I signed up for Fan Clan back in the day, for example, though my lottery goods were sent via Tenso too) or sites that require you to sign up to purchase from. I wouldn’t recommend it for any marketplace type site unless you’re fluent in Japanese, since sellers on those sites may try to communicate with you.
Stores
AmiAmi (no shopping service needed) - AmiAmi is mainly for new goods but I’ll mention it here anyway, in case K ever gets more merch. AmiAmi usually sells out on preorders, you place your order and they will let you know when the item arrives. You pay at that time. They do sometimes get used merch though so you can keep an eye out there, sometimes there will be decent deals on items that only have small flaws like the box being damaged.
Amazon Japan (may or may not need a shopping service) - Did you know overseas people can buy from Amazon Japan? You do now! You will need to make a new account, even if you have an Amazon account in your country. Whether you need a shopping service or not depends on the item. Anything sold directly by the company will likely not need a shopping service — the majority of my K manga and the stage plays were all bought directly from here, and when I was supplying raws for Countdown and LSW I was buying the magazines from here as well (I’ve also used it for Pokémon plushies and sewing books). If the item is being sold by a third party seller though you will likely need a shopping service. The site will tell you when you try to check out.
Surugaya EN (no shopping service required)/ Surugaya JP (shopping service required) - This is a secondhand shop and a great place to find merch. The main difference between the English site and the Japanese one is that the Japanese site has a larger selection (particularly doujinshi, and even more particularly spicy doujinshi). The English site periodically has free shipping sales so keep an eye out. Surugaya also has physical stores and will sometimes share merch between the store and the site so keep that in mind too, I have had items canceled before because they sold out in store and the listing hadn’t been updated yet.
Mandarake (no shopping service needed) - Another secondhand shop similar to Surugaya. I have not actually purchased from them myself and am not fond of their interface but I know people who have bought things from here. Like Surugaya they share stock with physical stores so something you want can sell out even after you’ve purchased.
Lashinbang (shoppng service required) - More secondhand shops. Lashinbang is rather small though so they don't always have much stuff, at least not for K.
CDJapan (no shopping service needed) - This is also better for new merch than secondhand but still worth a mention. I’ve found their prices tend to be worse than a lot of other stores though, this is more of a last resort for me.
Otaku Republic/Goods Republic (no shopping service needed) - Otaku sells doujinshi, Goods sells merch. The main draw is that these two are easy to search if you’re uncomfortable dealing with Japanese sites. I haven’t used them in quite a while but when I was buying from them they would send me free gifts with every purchase (my S4 cup came from them, as well as a bunch of clear file folders that I didn’t take pictures of because they’re being used as sewing pattern storage right now). The main downside is that while shipping is free over $50 they massively mark up the base prices to make up for it. I eventually stopped using this site because the shopping service was cheaper even with shipping and fees, you are paying for convenience. A lot of their ‘inventory’ is just listings from other sites including Surugaya, so check there first.
GoraShop (shopping service required) - This is Gora’s direct bookshop! They only have the season novelizations and Idol K books right now, as well as some Ayaka stuff.
Kinkurido (shopping service required) - This is the King Amusement Creative shop. All Memories was sold through this shop but is currently sold out, if they ever restock Gora will likely announce it on their Twitter. They do have some other small K goods available, including some CDs and artbooks (and Sarumi body pillows).
Marketplaces
Mercari Japan (Shopping service needed) - If you’ve ever used the English version of Mercari, here it is again but Japanese edition. You can find a lot of good used pieces here but prices are set by the individual seller so be wary of overpaying the first thing you find. Be sure to use a translator to look at the description in case you're buying a damaged item. Sometimes shopping services can try to negotiate the prices if you ask.
Yahoo Japan Auctions (shopping service needed) - Similarly as above, if you’re familiar with eBay this is fundamentally the same thing. Some shopping services will allow you to place last minute ‘sniper’ bids, and most will let you set a maximum bid and keep bidding on your behalf until that max is reached.
Shopping tips and things to know
The good news about buying from Japan right now: the yen is weak, so you can get deals! In the US, anyway. This may depend on your country so if you’re unsure on the exchange rate you can google “[your country’s currency] to yen exchange rate” and it should give you an approximate.
The bad news: shipping is killer. Keep that in mind, especially if you’re buying heavy items like bags or shoes (yes, K has those, there are several SuperGroupies collabs. If you want a S4 purse or Yata Misaki shoes keep in mind you will probably be paying through the nose for shipping). For the European types, you may have additional taxes too so be aware of your country’s import laws. Ditto when it comes to customs. For my fellow Americans, I have never had a customs issue even when buying fairly pricey dresses so you’re probably okay on that end but I can’t speak for other countries.
Character tax is real. Basically, more popular characters will likely have more expensive merch because there’s more demand — for example, Fushimi and Yata merch tends to be more expensive than, say, Silvers merch. Keychains and pins are usually cheaper than larger items like figures and standees either way though.
Most of the Japanese sites will need to be searched in Japanese. For character names, I suggest going to the K wiki and grabbing your favorite character’s name in kanji and using that to search. For pairings, while marketplace sites like Mercari may have listings under the pairing name sites like Suruga will use the two individual character names so you’ll want to search under that. If your browser doesn’t have an add on to translate that’s very helpful to grab in order to make your experience easier. For K itself, in general this is really the downside of having a favorite series with a one letter title. However, using ‘Missing Kings,’ ‘Return of Kings’ or ‘Seven Stories’ can be helpful here but will likely mostly turn up merch made for that specific season/movie.
If you want to look up something specific like a plush but don't know the Japanese word for it, Jisho can be helpful. Look up the kanji for the word you want and then copy-paste into your search. The downside is sometimes there are multiple words for the same thing or a word may be in kanji but people use the hiragana more often and you won't know, but it should get you on the right path to start.
On buying spicier goods: most shopping services have it in their terms that they will not buy adult items. In practice, however, this depends. I've had FromJapan refuse to buy perfectly tame G-rated doujinshi. Treasure Japan has in their terms that they won't ship adult items but like 70% of my doujinshi collection was purchased through them, with an R18 Sarumi book purchased as recently as last year. I've heard Buyee also states that they won't ship adult items but it's hit or miss if they turn down your order, and if you buy directly using Tenso they likely won't even open your package. Keep your country's laws regarding importing in mind, especially if you think customs might be likely to poke around in your package. Don't get in legal trouble just for spicy drawings.
Buying secondhand is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes it takes a while for what you want to show up, so just keep looking! When I was collecting my nui set I literally bookmarked the search for “K ぬい” (nui) on Mercari and checked every day or so, which may be more obsessive than you want but it does get the job done (I was molded in the merch search mines of trying to find lolita dresses that haven’t been sold for 10 years, so I’m used to this kind of thing). If you keep looking you may even find things you didn't know you needed, like this Sarumi bedsheet I forgot to add into my collection post.

Happy hunting!

Here's a quandary I've suddenly found myself in: where do you stand on writers deleting their own works, fanfiction or otherwise? I've had this happen to me on more than one occasion - I go to look for an old favorite and find it's since been deleted from whatever site I read it on.
On the one hand, I'm inclined to think that, "Sure. The author wrote it, it's their call. I don't own the work - I certainly didn't pay for it. It's their decision, even if it's disappointing."
But at the same time I can't help but consider the alternative - if I believe in death of the author (and I do), that an author's work fundamentally isn't solely theirs once it's been published, posted, etc., then it also seems wrong to have a work deleted. Stories aren't the sole property of their creator, after all.
But then I circle back. D'you think there are different obligations between authors and readers and the works being made in fandom space? I know if I had bought a book and the author decided they wanted it back, I would feel pretty comfortable telling them no, given I'd paid for it and whatnot. But that's a different world from fanfic and fandom space generally.
So. You're insightful Clyde, I'm curious as to what you'll have to say here (and to all y'all thinking about it, don't flame me. I haven't decided where I stand here yet - haven't heard a good nail-in-the-coffin argument for or against yet).
Val are you a mind reader now? I’ve been thinking about this exact conundrum the last few days!
(And yeah, as a general disclaimer: no flaming. Not allowed. Any asks of the sort will be deleted on sight and with great satisfaction.)
Honestly, I’m not sure there is a “nail-in-the-coffin argument” for this, just because—as you lay out—there are really good points for keeping works around and really good points for allowing authors to have control over their work, especially when fanworks have no payment/legal obligations attached. In mainstream entertainment, your stories reflect a collaborative effort (publisher, editor, cover artists, etc.) so even if it were possible to delete the physical books out of everyone’s home and library (and we're ignoring the censorship angle for the moment), that’s no longer solely the author’s call, even if they have done the lion’s share of the creative work. Though fanworks can also, obviously, be collaborative, they’re usually not collaborative in the same way (more “This fic idea came about from discord conversations, a couple tumblr posts, and that one headcanon on reddit”) and they certainly don’t have the same monetary, legal, and professional strings attached. I wrote this fic as a hobby in my free time. Don’t I have the right to delete it like I also have the right to tear apart the blankets I knit?
Well yes… but also no? I personally view fanworks as akin to gifts—the academic term for our communities is literally “gift economy”—so if we view it like that, suddenly that discomfort with getting rid of works is more pronounced. If I not only knit a blanket, but then gift it to a friend, it would indeed feel outside of my rights to randomly knock on their door one day and go, “I actually decided I hate that? Please give it back so I can tear it to shreds, thanks :)” That’s so rude! And any real friend would try to talk me out of it, explaining both why they love the blanket and, even if it’s not technically the best in terms of craftsmanship, it holds significant emotional value to them. Save it for that reason alone, at least. Fanworks carry that same meaning—“I don’t care if it’s full of typos, super cliché, and using some outdated, uncomfortable tropes. This story meant so much to me as a teenager and I’ll always love it”—but the difference in medium and relationships means it’s easier to ignore all that. I’m not going up to someone’s house and asking face-to-face to destroy something I gave them (which is awkward as hell. That alone deters us), I’m just pressing a button on my computer. I’m not asking this of a personal friend that is involved in my IRL experiences, I’m (mostly) doing this to online peers I know little, if anything, about. It’s easy to distance ourselves from both the impact of our creative work and the act of getting rid of it while online. On the flip-side though, it’s also easier to demean that work and forget that the author is a real person who put a lot of effort into this creation. If someone didn’t like my knitted blanket I gave them as a gift, they’re unlikely to tell me that. They recognize that it’s impolite and that the act of creating something for them is more important than the construction’s craftsmanship. For fanworks though, with everyone spread around the world and using made up identities, people have fewer filters, happily tearing authors to shreds in the comments, sending anon hate, and the like. The fact that we’re both prefacing this conversation with, “Please don’t flame” emphasizes that. So if I wrote a fic with some iffy tropes, “cringy” dialogue, numerous typos, whatever and enough people decided to drag me for it… I don’t know whether I’d resist the urge to just delete the fic, hopefully ending those interactions. There’s a reason why we’re constantly reminding others to express when they enjoy someone else’s work: the ratio of praise to criticism in fandom (or simply praise to seeming indifference because there was no public reaction at all), is horribly skewed.
So I personally can’t blame anyone for deleting. I’d like to hope that more people realize the importance of keeping fanworks around, that everything you put out there is loved by someone… but I’m well aware that the reality is far more complicated. It’s hard to keep that in mind. It’s hard to keep something around that you personally no longer like. Harder still to keep up a work you might be harassed over, that someone IRL discovered, that you’re disgusted with because you didn’t know better back then… there are lots of reasons why people delete and I ultimately can’t fault them for that. I think the reasons why people delete stem more from problems in fandom culture at large—trolling, legal issues, lack of positive feedback, cancel culture, etc.—than anything the author has or has not personally done, and since such work is meant to be a part of an enjoyable hobby… I can’t rightly tell anyone to shoulder those problems, problems they can’t solve themselves, just for the sake of mine or others’ enjoyment. The reason I’ve been thinking about this lately is because I was discussing Attack on Titan and how much I dislike the source material now, resulting in a very uncomfortable relationship with the fics I wrote a few years back. I’ve personally decided to keep them up and that’s largely because some have received fantastic feedback and I’m aware of how it will hurt those still in the fandom if I take them down. So if a positive experience is the cornerstone of me keeping fics up, I can only assume that negative experiences would likewise been the cornerstone of taking them down. And if getting rid of that fic helps your mental health, or solves a bullying problem, or just makes you happier… that, to me, is always more important than the fic itself.
But, of course, it’s still devastating for everyone who loses the work, which is why my compromise-y answer is to embrace options like AO3’s phenomenal orphaning policy. That’s a fantastic middle ground between saving fanworks and allowing authors to distances themselves from them. I’ve also gotten a lot more proactive about saving the works I want to have around in the future. Regardless of whether we agree with deleting works or not, the reality is we do live in a world where it happens, so best to take action on our own to save what we want to keep around. Though I respect an author’s right to delete, I also respect the reader’s right to maintain access to the work, once published, in whatever way they can. That's probably my real answer here: authors have their rights, but readers have their rights too, so if you decide to publish in the first place, be aware that these rights might, at some point, clash. I download all my favorite fics to Calibre and, when I’m earning more money (lol) I hope to print and bind many for my personal library. I’m also willing to re-share fic if others are looking for them, in order to celebrate the author’s work even if they no longer want anything to do with it. Not fanfiction in this case, but one of my fondest memories was being really into Phantom of the Opera as a kid and wanting, oh so desperately, to read Susan Kay’s Phantom. Problem was, it was out of print at the time, not available at my library, and this was before the age of popping online and finding a used copy. For all intents and purposes, based on my personal situation, this was a case of a book just disappearing from the world. So when an old fandom mom on the message boards I frequented offered to type her copy up chapter by chapter and share it with me, you can only imagine how overjoyed I was. Idk what her own situation was that something like scanning wouldn’t work, but the point is she spent months helping a fandom kid she barely knew simply because a story had resonated with her and she wanted to share it. That shit is powerful!
So if someone wants to delete—if that’s something they need right now—I believe that is, ultimately, their decision… but please try your hardest to remember that the art you put out into the world is having an impact and people will absolutely miss it when it’s gone. Often to the point of doing everything they can to put it back out into the world even if you decide to take it out. Hold onto that feeling. The love you have for your favorite fic, fanart, meta, whatever it is? Someone else has that for your work too. I guarantee it.
So take things down as needed, but for the love of everything keep copies for yourself. You may very well want to give it back to the world someday.

Meet the Author: Jayismz
Tumblr media
Hi, J / Jayismz!
Stories can be found here.
Twitter.
Wattpad.
__________
When did you start writing Olitz? I started writing Olitz a year ago around December 2019.
Tell us about yourself! What do you want readers to know about you? I want the readers to know that I’m a pretty humble, easy going guy who loves writing & wants to one day make a career out of it. It’s become a passion of mine. I dislike unnecessary drama & disrespect, & I’m obsessed with fruit snacks. I’m also very easy to talk to, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
What drew you to Olivia and Fitz? It wasn’t the immediate connection for me. It was the drama between them that pushed & pulled them apart. To see them triumph over all the darkness to show each other a love they never experienced was beautiful.
What made you want to write about them? Honestly? I didn’t plan on writing them but my girl Muses pushed me to do so and I don’t regret it. I love being able to bend and shape them how I please. In ways that the show didn’t.
How would you describe your writing? Drama, Romance, Action, Adventure. Angst as well, depending on the storyline. It’s easy to follow, too. Some points are a bit more subtle but if you read for the sake of the story & not just for olitz smut/fluff then you’ll get the fully painted picture.
What inspires you to write / create? Honestly? That’s a difficult question. Sometimes watching certain episodes of the show will give me an idea/inspire me. Other times, it’ll be late night inspiration, when I’m supposed to be asleep or life in general. My mind never stops creating, but every idea that I have doesn’t make the site. Also music. That’s heavy inspiration, too.
Favorite movies, shows, music?
Favorite movies? 1. Dawn of the Dead. 2. The Halloween film series minus one. 3. Jennifer’s Body. 4. The Incredibles film series. 5. The Friday the 13th film series. 6. Insidious 1-2. 7. The Avengers / X-men film series. Even the bad X-men films give me something. 8. Call Me By Your Name. 9. 4th Man Out. 10. Mulligans.
Favorite shows? 1. The 100. 2. The Witcher. 3. American Dad. 4. Scandal. 5. Kingdom.
Music? Alternative, pop, electronic, hip hop and r&b, soundtrack, dance, rap, light rock. A little bit of everything.
How long does it take you to write a chapter? I used to be on a once a week schedule but that doesn’t give people time to miss a story and digest the current chapter(s). So, now I wait until I’m ready. Sometimes it takes a week to write, other times it’ll take longer. Depending on how tired, busy and inspired I am. Time limits stress me out.
Did the show’s themes and plots encourage you or discourage you from writing? The themes I looked for always inspired me.
Writing AU or Canon? AU.
Reading AU or Canon: some canon is really good, but mostly AU.
________
A favorite line, scene, or paragraph you’ve written.
Though there are many moments I love from all of my stories. The speech Ryan gave to Olivia in Herstory is one of my favorites.
Ryan: "Option three, we let them bicker and whine and panic because it's you who calls the shots. You are the leader of the free world. You make the tough decisions that mold and shape the world. You break down the barriers of what it means to be president." He slowly strides around the office.
"You're not like the countless men who came into this office and paraded their power as if they were some Gods here to bless us with great fortune and progress only to leave us with broken promises and lies. No, you are Olivia fucking Pope. You are light and you... have more guts than any man I know." Words unwavering, filled with fire.
"Babying everyone with an opinion is not how I see you running this White House. Your White House. So, what's it going to be?"
Reason being is because he sees her for the woman she is here. There’s no underestimation or denial of her skills. Just pure, unadulterated passion and the will to stand by her side knowing that she’s going to make history.
________
Fave Olitz moments? The season 7 conversation when he asked her if he crossed the line. The trail, of course. The lawn kiss in season 6. And also the deleted scene from season 6 where she was leaving the residence and they talked about him having two weeks. OH! And the dug the phone out of the trash moment.
Fave Olitz fanfic moments? I read too much to remember all of them, omg. Don’t hate me y’all 😭. But everyone I follow in the site gives me some of the best moments and they inspire me to write in all honesty.
________
Do you like it when readers engage with you via comments / social media? Of course! It helps.
Story Reviews: Love them, hate them? I’m indifferent about them. Sometimes they’re so negative but other times, they’re good— constructive even. I read them once every so often before expressing how grateful I am to have people still enjoying my works. Negative ones get deleted without a thought.
What advice would you give to a new Olitz writer? Just write! Perfection should only matter to you and you only. If it’s perfect to you then I’d say you’ve done a good job. Also, write the story that you want to tell. People tend to scream that something’s not good if the idea they had in their mind doesn’t happen. Stay true to yourself and never let anything dictate the words you write.
Outside of your fics, do you have any fave Olitz stories or authors? Anything by Musesoftheminds, labellebeaucoup, sweetness04fj, anonolitz, glamour02, loveoverpride, annnnd Keke thegoddess.
Do you talk to other Olitz authors? If so, do you like the camaraderie? I talk to a good 4 of them. Muses I talk to almost everyday off Twitter, of course, but the other three I’ll reach out and check in or they will. I do like it— the camaraderie. It makes me feel wanted here which means a lot.
Have you made friends (people you talk to outside of fanfic) because of Olitz / Scandal fanfic? I have, yes.
Before you go, anything else you’d like to share?
Yes. To those that read my stories and newcomers. I’m glad you enjoy my work and I’m happy to continue writing for you all. I know it was a big change with me adding new characters and turning the tides a bit but the reception to them has been so heartwarming.
I’m happy Ryan has been received well in the fics. He’s an extension of me if I were to put myself in those settings. I used to be so afraid to admit that but it’s nothing to be ashamed about. Adding myself or a fraction of myself in some way pushed me to continue with writing these stories. It’s like I become one with the character thing. Plus, it makes for good dynamics.
As far as other characters, I tend to use people I know as blueprints as well as other celebrities. For example, Rose / Viper is based on my girl Musesoftheminds if she were in those settings. In When It All Falls & its sequel, Danny is portrayed by actor Marcus Rosner. In Hunted, Walker is portrayed by Charles Melton & Mike is portrayed by Trevante Rhodes. In Herstory, August is portrayed by Henry Cavill and Rose’s husband is portrayed by Jason Mamoa. She picked him herself, LOL.
And if anyone wants to be in a story of mine, let me know! If it works with the story, we can make it happen now that you know my process.
Lastly, I want to thank the community for being so open and accepting of me and my ideas. I was afraid that me being an openly gay man and incorporating every facet of that from presentation to relationships to sex would’ve pushed people away, but you’re still here and it means the world to me. And to the writers I speak to personally, thank you for always having my back and for encouraging me to continue. You’ve been nothing but kind & I love you.
Thank you to DouxBebeArchive for this writer’s spotlight, for always being kind enough to share my works and for being a kind soul.
xoxo, J

The Tumblr Beta Version: an objective analysis
I was tempted to just type “it sucks.” And while that is an objective analysis, it’s not exactly helpful. I’ve sent several requests to @staff and @support to restore my account to the old tumblr dashboard format, and received the same automated reply twice now. I’ll copy/paste it here so everyone is on the same page:
(lol, I had to go back and edit this, because apparently the beta version doesn’t display block quotes on the dash. So I’ve also put the block quotes in italics... hopefully it’ll display properly... note after editing: nope, it doesn’t display italics either... how the heck am I supposed to differentiate quoted text? I’ll start each quoted bit with an asterisk, I guess...)
*Thanks for reaching out about the beta dashboard.
*We're currently testing it out, and your account seems to have been selected to take part in the test. Thanks for your patience while we work on it! At this time there is not a way to opt out of testing. You may see your Tumblr experience return to normal as we continue testing.
WE CAN ONLY HOPE.
*In the meantime, check out some of the new features available only in the beta dashboard:
OKAY TUMBLR, IF YOU INSIST, though I would MUCH rather have back all the functionality I personally invested into this website through xkit... you know... making the site ACTUALLY FUNCTIONAL. Let’s see what this beta version has given me instead of functionality:
*Change Palettes: Go to the person icon, then click "Change Palette." You'll find the classic Tumblr blue, dark mode, and a few other color palettes for your dash.
So I tried out all the color palettes. In addition to the ones mentioned here, there’s one that’s trying to look like a green screen terminal that gives me flashbacks to the early 80′s. There’s a reason we stopped using green screen terminals... Another one is “canary yellow.” It’s very yellow. The “classic tumblr” isn’t actually classic tumblr... all the post boxes are dark blue with grey type, not white with black type. And all the other colors are the insanely bright fluorescent of the new Dark Blue standard tumblr scheme. Which means links are practically invisible unless I highlight them. It’s migraine inducing. The one theme with a light colored background is called “Concrete” or “Cement” or something like that and even that only works for about half an hour before the migraine aura really kicks in. I just want my Old Blue via xkit back. You know, what tumblr actually used to look like. I don’t want any of these horrible color palettes. None of them work for me.
*The new "meatballs" menu: This is where you can copy the post link, unfollow the Tumblr who made or reblogged the post, or report a violation to our Community Guidelines.
I could do all of this from the user menus with xkit, too. I don’t regularly report violations or have the urge to block people I have chosen to follow. Why on earth would I want to do any of this? And why would I want these features located directly beside the post link copy feature?
You know what I do miss? I miss the xkit timestamps feature. I didn’t have to hover dangerously close to the KILL IT WITH FIRE meatballs menu in order to see when a post was made, and in this era of disinformation and misinformation spreading around this site faster than Covid-19, being able to see when a post was ORIGINALLY created is a far more useful feature than an easier way to block people. For reference: I currently have three blogs blocked. Two of them are pornbots. One is a nazi. If I don’t want someone’s content on my dash, I don’t follow them. This “feature” is entirely useless to me.
*A quick note: Pagination is not supported in this beta test, but we're collecting feedback to send to our engineers.
THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST. This beta test might actually be tolerable if I wasn’t trapped into endless scrolling. If I could page through my dash, refreshing it every ten posts or so. You know why? Because once I scroll about 30 posts down my dash, tumblr starts overheating my laptop under the load of ALL THOSE POSTS. Things start malfunctioning-- it takes longer and longer to load new posts the farther I scroll. And the keyboard navigation (both page down and hitting J to advance to the next post, and even just using the down arrow to scroll as I read a long post) freeze and stop functioning. One of my laptop fans has actually begun to malfunction.
You know why this wasn’t a problem on the old version? If the data load got to heavy, I could open a post in a new tab, click view on dash with xkit, and voila! Brand new tab! I could close the malfunctioning tab and everything would be refreshed to normal! But without pagination, THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE.
Also, after reblogging a few posts, the beta version of this site breaks, and doesn’t open a post tab to add commentary or even tags. It just... reblogs the untagged post with no warning whatsoever. You know... that’s really really not cool. I tag EVERYTHING. Well, almost everything. The tags are the only way to keep track of the 40k+ posts on my blog. And warn people that I am posting potential spoilers, or other specific content. It’s REALLY inconvenient to have to either immediately go to my blog to edit the post and add tags, or even comments. The alternative is to scroll up to open individual posts I want to reblog in a new tab, and then reblog directly there. Ironically enough, THOSE pages actually open with xkit installed, and everything (surprise!) functions perfectly there.
It’s perfectly reasonable to understand why this specific issue has limited the number of posts I reblog. Reblogging content should not be this much of a hassle. Creators have been complaining for a while that reblogs have drastically slowed down, and I think making it even more annoying and difficult to reblog posts will not help this problem.
Also, with xkit enabled, there’s a function that auto-loads images as you scroll, so the images are always visible BEFORE they appear on screen. I don’t have to look at the colored boxes and wonder if this is a post I’ve already seen or something I should sit and wait for. Don’t even think about watching tumblr videos. Loading priority is given to the ads that you cannot pause or dismiss, so that video loads and plays in choppy two second bursts instead of being given priority. Since that’s the content I am actually here to consume, it kinda makes me want to do the opposite of patronizing anyone who advertises here with graphically intense ads. And then when you scroll away, with xkit, gifs and videos you’ve scrolled past STOP loading and playing, which I think might be contributing to the intensity of the resource hogging that’s literally melting down my laptop.
And for reference, I have a pretty decent little gaming laptop. A blogging platform shouldn’t be driving it to the brink of frying itself. I didn’t realize just how much xkit worked to streamline this and provide basic functionality to this site.
*And lastly, if you're an XKit user, know that the XKit team is working hard to update things on their end to make it compatible with the beta dashboard.
And this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of what I’ve lost without xkit. And this is a really REALLY garbage response to user complaints. “Oh, yeah, sorry we made our site suck even worse, but those nice people who do our jobs for free will surely fix our garbage soon!”
Dear wonderful people at @new-xkit-extension, I love you, and I miss you, and while I wish xkit worked with this beta version I’ve been forced into living with, I truly feel for y’all who are trying to deal with this nonsense on behalf of all of us.
And to the folks at Tumblr... maybe try to just... make your site actually more like xkit. You know, actually functional. None of these special new features are useful or functional to me. I respectfully request for a fourth time to be removed from this inane beta test.
Give us OPTIONS. Let us display ALL THE TAGS without having to click a button. Let me have back my Activity+ that actually allowed me to interact with people from my dash! That showed me real-time inline notifications in a way that I could reply to with a single click! Bring me back to my column of open messaging conversation icons so I have easy access to the people I talk with throughout the day instead of closing them all every time I refresh the page. I already feel socially isolated in freaking quarantine, please stop shutting off all my avenues of communication!
Let us have pagination! I mean, maybe it wasn’t the best idea to force heavy users of this site into a beta version that doesn’t allow us to opt out until your engineers had actually figured out how to make it work in a very basic way.
*Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with!
YES. PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM THIS BETA TEST NOW. I have let you know exactly what I want from this site. I just want it to ACTUALLY WORK. For someone who spends 12+ hours a day on this site, this beta test version is NONFUNCTIONAL. PLEASE ALLOW ME TO OPT OUT. I AM LITERALLY BEGGING YOU. I WILL ACTUALLY PAY YOU CASH MONEY TO ALLOW ME TO OPT OUT OF THIS AND GO BACK TO HAVING A FUNCTIONAL BLOG AGAIN. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!
PLEASE!
I AM OFFICIALLY AT THE END OF MY PATIENCE FOR ENDURING THIS NIGHTMARE.
(one final quick note... I’ve only been back on my dash long enough to make the parenthetical edits-- i.e. adding italics that don’t display and then adding the asterisks at the beginning of each section of quoted text, and already my laptop is overheating again. For reference, I originally typed this entire post from within my tumblr inbox page-- which still functions normally with xkit-- and spent over an hour on it. My laptop was fine the entire time. Clearly the issue is this beta version of the website. I will never forgive tumblr if y’all fry my literal only portal to the outside world at this time. PUT ME BACK TO NORMAL NOW. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING AND ENTIRELY UNACCEPTABLE. Thanks)
(oops apparently i lied... when the asterisks and the previous final note failed to display, I thought that seemed suspicious, and realized that I literally needed to refresh my entire dash in order to see edited changes. Funny how xkit enabled me to do that in real time, which is just another bit of functionality I’ve lost with this beta program. Please guys, this is really, really not working for me at all, just put it back.)

GreenGeeks Best WebHosting Service
Tumblr media
Fun fact: do you know why Facebook moved its massive data center to Northern Sweden?
That’s because servers run hot, and cooling them down is expensive. Might as well keep them in a cold part of the world.
But more to the point in this GreenGeeks review: maintaining servers uses a ton of energy.
In fact, the Internet is one of the largest polluters in the world. Data centers account for 2% of the world’s CO2 emissions, about the same as the airline industry.
Well, if that’s a concern for you, I’ve got good news because the ‘green’ in GreenGeeks refers to their commitment to providing eco-friendly web hosting.
This is how it works, according to their website:
The platform is designed with a maximum use, no waste mindset.
For every amperage the company pulls from the grid, it matches it x3 in the form of renewable energy via the Bonneville Environmental Foundation
So they claim your website could be operating on a 300% green hosting platform!
While a growing number of hosting providers take the problem of energy seriously, (here’s an example from DreamHost), GreenGeeks really puts their ethos front and forward.
But what about other pros and cons, features and alternatives? Let’s put GreenGeeks through the wringer to see how it fares.

GreenGeeks Prices
Let’s first look at how much it costs per month to host your website on GreenGeeks. The first option is for shared hosting (the one most website owners need). You’ll also find that they offer WordPress web hosting. As far as I could tell, there is absolutely no difference between the WordPress and the shared hosting option.
As always, we’ll only be mentioning the regular price, which is what you pay after a first year at a discounted price. The first 12 months can be 50 – 70% cheaper.
                      Ecosite                LiteEcosite       ProEcosite Premium
Price (after renewal)$10.95 / month$15.95 / month$25.95 / month
You can purchase the plans for 12, 24 or 36 months. There is a significant discount for the longer terms, as you can see below:
GreenGeeks also offers VPS hosting, which comes with better performance, but a lot of limits depending on the plan you choose.
Price$39.95 / month$59.95 / month$109.95 / month
Finally, I should also mention that GreenGeeks has a few add-ons you can purchase to expand your hosting capabilities. These include:
Dedicated IP address: $48 per year
Premium AlphaSSL Wildcard: to secure SSL on multiple subdomains all at once.
WHMCS license: useful for resellers who want to bill hosting to their clients (note that GreenGeeks does offer a reselling option).
Last but not least, you’ll have to pay $25 for every backup restore, if you do it more than once per month (the first one is free).
What can you expect from each GreenGeeks plan?
As you can see in the above table, there’s a lot of unlimited stuff with their shared hosting and WordPress plans. That includes:
Unlimited bandwidth (or data transfer, which means the same thing)
Unlimited disk storage
Unlimited databases
Unlimited email accounts
Free SSL
The key limits to keep an eye on are maybe the number of ionodes, which is another way of saying the number of files on your site. It’s a very large number, mostly there to ensure you don’t abuse GreenGeeks’ generosity by hosting a file sharing website.
GreenGeeks Pros & Cons
Pros:
Green-minded: GreenGeeks is attempting to offset their server’s electricity consumption by using as much renewable energy as possible.
Unlimited data bandwidth: you can host one or multiple sites with complete peace of mind when it comes to visitor numbers and bandwidth.
Unlimited data storage: your site can be as large as you like, so good for video, high-res photos and ecommerce with loads of products. Just keep an eye on the number of files. Hosting more than 150,000 could void your plan’s contract.
Server locations: three continents to choose from, the US, Canada and Europe.
Heavily reduced long term plans: it’s not unusual to pay less for 24 or 36 month plans, but GreenGeeks is slashing their monthly prices by up to 70% for long term users.
Cons:
Missing advanced features: serious website owners and developers will need to look elsewhere for staging or premium DNSs.
No team management: it’s not possible to add multiple account users and to give permissions.
Lack of free backups: you get one automatic backup every 24 hours. One free restore per month, but the rest are paid. Not good enough.
Outdated design: Not a deal-breaker, but the whole system could do with a new coat of paint, which could also help with the user experience.
What is GreenGeeks used for?
I’d say GreenGeeks is best for website owners with green goals in mind. You can even show one of their green badges, to highlight on your site.
The generous bandwidth and storage is advantageous for those who own multiple sites. As far as the performance to price ratio goes, it’s good, and becomes more acceptable when you buy a long term contract of 24 or 36 months.
When not to use GreenGeeks hosting?
Anyone managing a team should consider that inviting others to join the account isn’t possible, and the lack of developer-friendly features could be a big no-no for certain businesses.
Developers with complicated workflows that need staging areas probably won’t be big fans of GreenGeeks’s platform either.
GreenGeeks Backups
Backups and restore are one of the areas I start considering a lot more these days when it comes to choosing a web host. A Sod’s law states: if something wrong can happen, it probably will, and at the worst possible times. This happened to us, and please learn from our mistakes when I say you should backup as often as possible.
GreenGeeks cPanel Backup Feature
Anyways, this is how it works with GreenGeeks. Option 1 is to use the cPanel backup tool. I’s a bit clunky and manual but by no means too difficult to do:
Login and click on the appropriate site’s cPanel button
Click Backup in the Files section
Click Home Directory under Download a Home Director
You can also download a database instead, or a full Zipped account backup, which is what you’ll need to keep on your local drives.
A couple of important things to note:
If your account is larger than 10GB in size, the whole cPanel backup option will be disabled. You’ll have to pay $5 per backup.
cPanel backups saved to your home directory will be deleted automatically after 48 hours, so it’s better to download the ZIP file locally.
The first monthly restore is free. After that, each restore costs $25. Note that it’s not unusual to restore at least a couple of times if there’s an issue (e.g. you chose the wrong backup to restore).
Option number two is to download files manually using an FTP program. If you use a CMS like WordPress or Drupal that also means you’ll need to backup databases. I always find that a big pain to do, and also slow. Which is why a better backup tool would have been useful.
GreenGeeks and WordPress
Although GreenGeeks has a special section on their website for WordPress hosting, I couldn’t find a difference between these plans and the share hosting ones.
In any case, here’s what you get for both if you want to install the world’s most popular CMS.
Easy installation: it’s not 1-click, but they use an install app called Softaculous, which simplifies the process for you. Maybe 4 or 5 steps, which you can read about here.
LiteSpeed Cache plugin: it’s a caching plugin that will make WordPress run faster on your site when properly configured. Be aware this is not GreenGeek’s own solution, but just a generic plugin they recommend.
LiteSpeed Cache Settings
To be honest, I feel like all the WordPress-optimized stuff is mostly there for marketing purposes. If you are really serious about WordPress experts (and you have the budget for it), I’d consider other options like Kinsta or WP Engine. SiteGround is also a great option if you need something a bit more affordable.
Final GreenGeeks Review Comments
GreenGeeks is certainly the provider we’ve tested that’s the most committed to protecting the environment. It’s an admirable choice, and businesses with a green goal will certainly be pleased to hear that they can host a website with a reliable performance, price, and low carbon footprint.
But there are nevertheless a few downsides to consider. The lack of advanced options like staging and team management features can be a dealbreaker for professional business owners. The limited backup features may be not enough for most.
And if you need a top-performing host, other (and more expensive) solutions like SiteGround, Kinsta or WP Engine could be considered.
It’s also not the cheapest provider out there. For example, at renewal DreamHost is more affordable and offers similar performance levels.

Frequently Asked Quesitons
How Do I Pay for GreenGeeks?
You can pay via all major credit cards and PayPal. No checks, money orders, wire transfers or Western Union payments.
Is Everything Really Unlimited?
Yes. Just keep in mind that there is a limit on the amount of files you can keep on your sites, though. It’s a really high number, so mostly a precaution against file-sharing websites.
Can I Get My Money Back?
There is an unconditional 30-day money back guarantee offer.
Is There an Uptime Service Guarantee?
Yes, if your website hosting drops below a 99.9% rate, GreenGeeks will refund some of your hosting fees.
Is GreenGeeks Really Environmentally-Friendly?
They’re certainly advertising as such. In practice this is how it works: GreenGeeks tells the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) how much electricity they use. The foundation calculates how much green energy they’ll need to use to make up for it. GreenGeeks purchases that amount in renewable energy.
So it’s not like their servers use less energy than standard hosting. However, they are certainly committed to making up for what they consume, and using as much green energy as possible.

Note
how do you get into roleplaying on a ff server? like how do you do it and how do you know if your character is lore compliant? ;A; pls youre a big inspo to me
*Hugs Nonny* Getting into RP on a FF server can vary; I don’t actually RP much these days, outside of some friends I already have connections to--and that in itself can be difficult just due to Life! It can take time, and patience, and some fits and starts.
And this gets...really really long, so buckle up and go below the cut, please. :)
The cut got broken by an edit. Sigh.
In game there’s always the RP status tag, and just doing RP with folks in public spaces. There may be trolls now and then, but they can be ignored. I personally find Balmung’s Quicksand area too busy and anxiety inducing and not actually all that conducive to actual RP, even “meet at a tavern” walk-up type. But unless you already have a ready-made group of friends/FCmates willing to RP more than some random walk-ups with you, it may take some legwork to find folks you can and want to write with.
Social Media There are a couple of RP community blogs, like @mooglemeet and @ffxiv-crystal-rp  and plenty of server-specific ones. There’s also some Discords for these communities. They host and advertise events and reblog people who are looking for RP contacts. Some of them have running gdoc calendars and in game linkshells and fellowships as well.
Shofie has a good post about Tumblr/social media RP blogging.
@shofie-ffxiv
It’s a fact now that social media outside game is a way to make contacts, or even a medium for RP itself. There are few centralized websites/forums for server RP communities anymore. Making connections over your social media, like Tumblr and Twitter, can help find RP. You can’t just throw your own character info out there or reblog prompts hoping others bite, though; you have to put in some work and show interest in others, too. This can be difficult and even scary. That’s OK.
RP is about collaboration and creating with other people, which means finding folks you can write with, and who see you as someone interesting but also interested in them and their OCs. If you want to keep it a solo endeavor focused on your own OCs, write fanfic (which I’ve actually made friends and gotten RP interests that way too through comment interactions, so hey).
If you reblog a prompt from someone, see others on your dash reblogging prompts, if people reblog that prompt post from you? Send them asks! Alternatively, don’t wait for prompts, just send asks, comments, or chats saying hello and things you notice or like about their blog/character/posts they make. Try to form connections with people you think are genuinely interesting and might be fun to talk with. Social media should be, well, social.
BUT respect boundaries, too. Don’t try sarcasm or jokes with people you don’t actually know, it tends to go over poorly. Unless someone’s specifically posting a naughty meme/prompt, keep stuff you others send clean and polite, especially if it’s unsolicited and you’re not already friends (doubly so if you don’t know how old they are IRL, there are laws you do not want to break). Respect if people aren’t open to random asks or chatting with new followers, or say “no” to RP, and know it’s not personal--it’s just what they have time, energy, and emotional/mental capacity for. Don’t give up on other people, though. This stuff can take time and effort to find those you click with.
Respect and communication with RP partners is pretty key.
Do curate your feeds and don’t be afraid to unfollow/mute/block folks, either. I’m selective in who I follow and remove as needed, too, for my own mental health. I miss so much of the discourse and drama and that’s fine by me. Also it costs nothing to not step in on a lot of the drama when it does pass in sight.
Profiles I have static RP profile pages for my girls here on Tumblr (and a lot of other static links and pages, but I’m weird about organizing like that). This way, if people want to write with me, send me prompts, if I sent them prompts, or they want to otherwise interact with my characters, the information is handily available. For some folks, this makes all the difference in who they choose to interact with: how easily can they find even basic info about your OC?
Some people make Carrds. Some folks have gdoc links, or use Dreamwidth, etc. Just keep the links in the blog’s sidebar menu, and/or in the blog desc so people can see ‘em on mobile. There are templates out there, or you can make your own. Feel free to snag mine if you’d like. A lot of times people also copy their profiles to rebloggable posts when looking for RP contacts. Profiles are a good way to let folks know just the at-a-glance basics about your character(s).
I picked a simple theme with a simple layout that makes it easy to add and show off links. I put them in the blog desc to make them easy to find on mobile, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Images: links from my blog sidebar menu showing how over organized I am]
RP, Stories, Lore Post some stories or RP logs (with permission of others involved) or even just random little blurbs and headcanons, as well as any screenshots, art, aesthetic posts for your OCs. Have something of interest to show for your character, too, so some of those folks your interacting with have something of their own to see and ask about!
If possible, try some light RP with friends and FC Mates who are amenable. Go to events, even if just to lurk at first. When you do get up the nerve to talk to people, don’t try to throw a character’s entire backstory at them, or try to steal the limelight--RP is collaboration, back and forth, and a lot like real conversation. Maybe come up with little light things to talk about if asked; a recent adventuring job, a silly shopping incident, etc. They can break the ice or just give you something to reply with for a few minutes.
Lore Compliance is Variable. Some people really want lore compliance, others are OK bending it here and there, while still others throw it out the window entirely. If you want to be super lore compliant...read. There’s a LOT of information, in game and out, for finding lore; from official publications and website material, to tools like Garland Tools site, to compilation blogs like @mirkemenagerie.
Note what’s important for your concept. Narrow it down. Characters aren’t going to know or be or do everything, so only worry about what’s necessary for the base idea. And be flexible; it’s SE’s sandbox, we just play in it, and they can change things any time. They usually do it in the guise of characters not knowing/having all the correct information, at least, but also some places just don’t exist in game yet so we don’t have info.
I’m unspecific about a lot of elements of Aeryn’s childhood, for instance, other than “traveling merchants near Thavnair.” I don’t have to be super specific. I can keep most details vague, and focus on her family and those relationships.
Dark, as my first character, has a fairly simple backstory that I’ve expanded on and adjusted over time as I learned and came up with new info. I also bet no one remembers I originally said Dark was from the North Shroud. I’ve changed things (now from East Shroud, due to the proximity to Gyr Abania and its Hellsguards) as I learned more about the world and my character. You don’t want to change things willy-nilly, but sometimes being flexible and smoothing down some rough edges and making small changes can be fine, especially as one gets more lore over time.
Iyna has a pretty detailed backstory, that came from a basic idea, and checking dates in the pre-Calamity timeline. I based her being taken and trained the way she was not only on what info we have about Garlemald’s imperial practices with conquered provinces, but borrowed a bit from real life and the re-education schools many Native Americans were forced into (though I haven’t gone into detail on that yet, either). I tied the turning point in Iyna’s life to a major event that wasn’t the Calamity, and have left plenty of space in between for me to fill in as time goes on and I learn more about her and the world.
The world isn’t static, and is bigger and more diverse than what can be shown in the game. There’s space in the margins for plenty of weird stuff and contradictions or unusual cases. So read up on what you can, ask questions, and then find where in those spaces your OC fits. Then, find people who enjoy similar tastes in lore compliance (or non-compliance), and who enjoy playing with you and your OCs, and not worrying about the rest. Can’t please everyone, nor get along with everyone, so don’t try; just find what works for you, and who works with you, and don’t police anyone else’s pretendy fun times, either.
There’s no magic answer on the “right” amount of lore compliance, or how to quickly and easily find RP partners or break into the broader RP community.
I hope this helps at least a little bit! Good luck in finding your niche for RP, and maybe I’ll see you sometime at an event :)

You threatened me? Good luck with being fired and losing your work visa. (long)
Ah, my mother, a wonderful woman she is. I love her to death, and she loves me just as much, back. But fuck with her two kids? You might find yourself losing your job.
This comes with a little bit of a backstory. Well, a lotta bit of backstory, if imma be honest. And the ever so loved, "Sorry for weird formatting, I am on my phone." comment, and TL;DR at bottom.
When I was 18 months old (a year and a half old), I was diagnosed with type one diabetes. It's a hard disease to live with, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, except for people who make those stupid "I'm gonna get diabetes if I eat another cupcake," comments, and similar stuff to that (plus those stupid jokes, too. I hate those with a passion). Because then they wouldn't joke about it, or make those smart fucking remarks.
When I was 11, I started sixth grade with an insulin pump. It did wonders for my bloodsugar and I! And, I was also diagnosed with celiac disease during the summer, so it kinda got all screwy when I started the gluten free diet, and I went from a child's medium, to a women's extra large in shirts in a little over four months. I was growing tall and fast because of the diet, and my pump was there, able to keep my bloodsugar levels from rising and falling way too often. All of my teachers knew of my diabetes, so I got exemptions and special privileges because of it (this is important).
In seventh grade, my school introduced this thing called "alternates." If your teacher, for that period, would be absent, they would leave the work they wanted you to do out on a chair in the hallway, while you and three other students went to a completely different classroom to sit in and do the work needed. And it was never the same teacher you had to go to, either. I remember my first class alternate was with the choir teacher, my third and fourth period alternate was with the 8th grade math teacher, and so on for all seven periods of the day. They didn't fix that problem until the next year, but we're focusing on 7th grade. And yes, even my alternate teachers were told about my diabetes, and they were lectured that if I wasn't allowed the special privileges that comes with being a Certified Dumbass Diabetic, then they can and will be put on Adult Suspension (a punishment less harsh for the alternate teachers because they're not my regular teachers). Which is just suspended from working for a few days, with no pay, I think.
My last period of the day was in social studies. The teacher was more likely absent than there, because of a lot of familial issues she was dealing with at the time, so I, and two other students, would take our assigned work and go to the French class.
The French teacher (who I will call La Garce, The Bitch, from now on) was an...engaging teacher. She was loud and funny and got her class to genuinely enjoy the lessons and what was taught, but she was also strict with rules. And she was an enforcer with the 'no phone,' rule. If she saw an outline of a phone in someone's pocket, she took it and held it until after class, and gave it back then.
So at the end of the day, after being all sweaty from gym class, climbing up two flights of stares, only to find my teacher was absent, grab the work and go to my locker (I was only one of a select few of students who got a locker at my middle school, but that's not important) to grab my Social Studies textbook, and hurridly walk down two flights of stares, yet a again, and through the hot March Sun to the area where the french classroom was, I was on autopilot mode.
My pump has a setting where it can vibrate if it alarms, but if you don't silence the alarm after a while, or if the problem it was facing wasn't fixed, it would audibly beep. And I usually kept my pump sites in my thigh/stomach, so my pump would stay in my pocket at school. But I couldn't really feel the vibration if it was going off, so if I thought it was vibrating, I'd check it to make sure what it was vibrating for, even if I wasn't sure if it did vibrate.
So on autopilot mode, I didn't feel my pump vibrating in my pocket, until the middle of the class. I don't remember the alert, but I think it was because the battery was low? I don't really remember.
Completely forgetting to press the button that acknowledges the alert, I raise my hand to ask if I could go to the nurse. La Garce says sure, just sign out first (it's to keep track of who enters and exits the rooms because of past lockdown problems revolving around guns), and I can go. I get up, and in the middle of signing out, my pump audibly alerts me, and I nearly fucking shit myself, because it genuinely scared me. I silence it, hoping to get out of the classroom without La Garce noticing, but wooo boy, did she notice.
La Garce: What was that noise?
Me, a dumb bitch who had undiagnosed anxiety at the time, and couldn't speak louder then Volume level 2, also holding my pump in hand as I silenced the alarm: oh, it was my pump. I'm sorry, it won't ha-
La Garce: if I had half a mind, I'd rip that thing right from your hands, throw it on the ground, and stomp on it until it is dust.
Me, shocked, but not really bothered: Okay, La Garce.
And so I leave the room, go to the nurse, fix my pump (she has spare batteries, extra pump supplies, extra insulin, a glucagon, and snacks in case of emergencies), and come back within ten minutes.
What La Garce had said really sunken in, and I realized, "Holy crap, did this lady just threaten me?" So I wrote a note asking if my friend (we had the same last period alternate, thank god) heard the same thing as I did, and she wrote back saying, yeah, she did. She even got it on recording, too.
Since our Social Studies teacher has a habbit of not slowing down or stopping her lessons, when she's there, my friend always sneakily turns her phone on right before she enters the room, and records the entire lesson so she can go back and fill out the stuff she misses in her notes. I guess in our hurry to get to La Garce's classroom, she forgot to stop the recording, so she was accidentally recording the French lesson.
I didn't really know what to do with this information, until ten minutes later, I'm in my mom's car at dismissal, and I tell her what happens. My mom slammed on the breaks, reversed back into the parking lot, parked her car, and drug me inside the school. We get to the front office, and everyone knew my mom, and they could tell she was pissed the fuck off, even though she was keeping a pretty neutral face.
I didn't even get to tell her that my friend had the interaction recorded until after my mom threatens to do something Court related to the principal if she didn't do something to punish La Garce. Then we had to wait an hour and a half until after the bus dropped my friend off at her house (she had to take the bus that day because her mom was working and her dad couldn't pick her up, and she was also the last stop for her bus), for my friend to get a ride back to school to show the principal the proof.
I didn't even want to tell the principal about this. I just told my mom, because I thought she would give me some advice with how to deal with the situation. My mom was the one who originally wanted revenge on La Garce, for, inherently, threatening my life. (We couldn't afford regular needles, and we definitely couldn't have afforded the long-acting insulin that I would have needed to take at night and in the morning if La Garce had, in fact, stomped on my pump until it was dust, like she said she would have).
My mom threatened to sue the school when she found the punishment that my principal would give La Garce unfit. My principal asked what she could do to prevent that, and my mom told her to fire La Garce. My principal said she would fire La Garce the following Monday.
She fucking lied.
La Garce searches for me during Lunch, and legit tells me "I'm sorry that you couldn't understand that I was joking."
She was not joking when she said she'd smash my pump to pieces. She was serious when she said it, angry even, to the point that when she said the threat, she was red faced. She wasn't joking, so she's fucking lying through her half-assed apology. I don't even say anything, I'm too stunned because La Garce is still here. Not fired.
I go to the bathroom immediately after the interaction, and call my mom with my phone. She's livid, but I begged her not to come to school, to not sue, and to not show her ass again, because I got it. She, obviously, reluctantly agrees, and she doesn't come to school.
The last week of March, the Social Studies teacher quits abruptly, causing her students to have to go to alternates for a week as the principal searched for a new teacher to hire.
So, I have to spend a week in La Garce's classroom. No biggy. I planned on making her life a living hell while I'm stuck there anyway.
If I unscrewed the cap on my pump, that keeps the insulin cartridge inside of it, it will alarm. Something I can do easily, and sneakily. I also took my pump off of vibrate, and put it on the loudest setting it would let me.
So, I caused my pump to alarm mulitple times in her classroom. She would get so angry every time her teaching was interrupted, but she couldn't do jack shit because she was already on thin ice with me.
Of course, her students suffered, but that was a small price to pay for the ultimate revenge on this woman. I didn't even want to get her in trouble in the first place, but for her to come up to me, unannounced, and called me stupid? Yeah, no. Only I get to call myself a dumb bitch.
Her classroom is outside, and when the bell rings for the end of the day, students pour out of the doors and have to pass by her classroom door in order to get to the buses, and so do the teachers who oversee the bus stuff.
So, on the third day of this, right as I walk out the door, La Garce tries to grab me by the arm and forces me to turn to face her so she can chew my ass out. But, what she really does, is she ends up ripping my insulin site out of my arm (one that I had just put in during lunch because some dumb fuck accidentally ripped it out of my other arm during lunch).
She doesn't realize she ripped the site out of my arm as she grabs me, until I started to scream. First of all, she ripped off a shit ton of tape that kept it inside of me, and second of all, this was back when I was using the actual metal needle pump sites, so as she gripped my arm, she drug the needle through my skin, before it fell out once it reached my elbow. I keep my sites, when they're on my arms, up closer to my shoulders, where I have more fat so it doesn't hurt when I have to put it on.
She drug the needle down from my shoulder to my elbow. It HURT. There was blood everywhere, because although the needles are kinda small, THEY STILL GO HAVE TO GO INSIDE OF MY SKIN!!!
The vice-principal (a man who's only complaint I have of, is that he almost gave me detention for forgetting to tuck in my shirt and wear a belt with our uniform on the last day of middle school), had just passed as this happened, so he saw the whole thing. I was screaming and crying, clutching my bloody arm, La Garce was stood in shock as she just...watched me as her hand was covered in my blood, my best friend was trying to stop the blood flow, all the students had stopped and were now watching me as the VP instructed one of the teachers to bring La Garce to the front office as he picked me up and carried me to the nurses office as he called 911.
The nurse had wrapped my arm up as best as she could before the paramedics arrived. I was rushed to the ER because I apparently needed stitches? Because it was a long, singular, cut, I guess? It wasn't that deep, so I guess got them to ensure that it would heal properly? I can't really remember, because my mom didn't arrive at the hospital until after I was giving some Good Shit and given stitches.
La Garce was immediately fired as soon as she reached the front office.
I was approached by police, because apparently it looked like she did it on purpose, but I didn't want to press any charges on her, much to my mother's disagreement.
That wasn't my plan on how to get her fired/get her to quit. I wanted to annoy her, make it harder for her to teach, to the point where it gets so bad, that the only peace she'd get was by quiting.
I was unable to write for the last two months of school, unable to carry my own backpack, unable to be apart of my band's end of the year concert (we worked on some extremely fast paced piece that was really troubling me, and I had practiced it so much that I memorized it, but all that practice went to fucking waste I guess), I have trouble raising my arm and carrying heavy things, even after physical therapy (which is a plus, because in one of my previous comments, I mention how one of my favorite parts of my day is after I shower, because my mom loves playing with my hair, so I let her blow dry it for me (which she also loves doing)). It's also really hard for me to insert sites now, because the needles make me have panic attacks and I even vomited a few times, because all I could remember as I got that pain of inserting a site, was the feeling of it ripping down my arm. A few years later, in my Sophomore year, after I went into DKA (long story short, a site needle somehow got kinked while in my leg, and my pump was unable to deliver insulin properly, so I almost died), I was given this cool new site that only uses a needle to insert the tubing inside of my arm (like an IV needle uses an actual needle to insert a plastic needle inside of your arm, and then removes the real needle), so I haven't had needle-related infusion site problems in a while.
Last week, I ran into the principal, and I was finally able to find out what happened to La Garce.
Since she was fired, she lost her visa, and she was forced to go back to France.
TL;DR, the french teacher at my middle school threatened to break my insulin pump because it went off in her class, mom threatened to sue if she wasn't fired, principal said she would fire her, but doesn't. Then, after basically calling me stupid, she accidentally cuts open my arm with my infusion site after she got fed up with my plan to annoy her till she quit, gets fired, and loses her visa.
i got my revenge, but not in the way I had originally planned.

We will not reblog minor/adult romance.
We will not reblog incestuous romantic ships (sibling/sibling, parent/child, etc).
Intraclan (i.e,. ItaShisui and ItaIzumi, the second of which is canon) is fine, as they are not directly related in canon.
What is your policy on cyberbullying?
Anyone who comments on a fill/in the tags with rude, unsolicited ship or character hate will automatically be blocked from participating.
Can I repost art or fic that I didn't make?
Absolutely not.
All reposters will be automatically blocked from participating.
I have already posted a complete fantasy-themed art/fic. Can I reuse it for this event?
Unfortunately, at this time we are NOT allowing people to recycle work posted before July. This is because it is unfair to other content creators who have waited until the event to put their work online.
If, however, you wait until July to post new, unseen content from a previously existing series or story, this is perfectly fine!
Can I submit previews of my work before July?
Yes, please do! Feel free to tag us at @naruto-fantasy-week and we will reblog it here, provided that it adheres to all the rules, plus:
Fic Previews: Must be excerpt that is five hundred words or less.

All of them! From urban fantasies to Hogwarts’ Great Hall to the Fields of Mordor, to a more magical version of the Naruto canon, we want to see what you make!
So choose your favorite enchanted saga and sprinkle some shinobis in there! The only real requirement is to keep it fantasy-related.
We don't have any AU-themed prompts this year, but I want to do a Harry Potter AU. What should I do?
Easy! You can fill any prompts with any AU of your choice, i.e., a cursed magic prompt for a Harry Potter AU (like his scar, or a horcrux), or a LOTR AU with "Old Gods" or "Mythical". So long as fantasy features in some way, your only limit is your imagination!
I read the prompts list and I'm a bit confused about X prompt(s). Should I just take them as I understand them?
Yes! If a particular prompt inspires you, interpret it as you wish!
So long as your content has magic, and follows all event rules, it will count as participating in Naruto Fantasy Week.
Do we have to use both prompts for one day, or can we only use one?
We made it two prompts per day to give you all the options! If only one inspires you, then do only that one!
One of your prompts includes multiple things, (like Knights, Dragons & Druids). Do I have to include all three?
Nope! As always, as long as it includes fantasy themes plus at least one part of the prompt (eg, dragons), feel free to do what inspires!
Do we have to do all fourteen prompts?
Wow, that would be a lot - that we’d love to see! But the answer is -
No, only if they inspire you!
Is this event limited strictly to Naruto canon characters?
So long as a fantasy prompt and canon Naruto characters feature in some way, you can include original characters (OCs) as well. The same goes for crossover and Boruto characters.
    Is N.S.F.W. Allowed?
Yes! However, as this event is open to everyone, and not everyone can or wants to see mature things on their dash, all explicit content MUST:
- be properly tagged with warnings/triggers.
- be between clearly consenting adults.
- be put under a cut (writing).
- be cropped sensibly (art).
(N.S.F.W. art info below).
If you post something in violation of these rules, we will ask you to fix it prior to reblogging it :))
How can we post explicit art with Tumblr’s New Guidelines?
Artists should be aware that N.S.F.W. works may be flagged for sensitive content, and plan accordingly. Currently, we suggest posting a cropped version of your work on Tumblr, and linking to the full version in your post.
An example of how you can post explicit work is provided here.
I posted/submitted my entry X hours ago, but it still hasn't been reblogged. What gives?
To make sure that every entry gets an equal amount of attention, and to avoid spamming everyone's dash, we will be queuing entries on a first come, first serve basis. Meaning, if five people post something before you, then we will reblog those first.
     Are late submissions allowed?
We will reblog rule-compliant late submissions up to two weeks after the event!
☆゚.*・。゚゚。・*.゚☆
Disclaimer: We are not responsible for any content created by the users. Content reblogged on this tumblr does not reflect the views, preferences or opinions of the mods. All N.S.F.W. works must be cropped or under a cut. No reposted works are allowed.

Hey.. I need your help. So I've been writing fic for awhile now but have never posted them online until recently. And i got positive feedbacks right which made me love writing even more. My readers are all so nice and they're patiently waiting for updates which i had written halfway. Anyway life kept me busy for awhile buT now i can't get back into fics.. Rereading my fic i only see flaws and now with each new comment i received i just get overwhelmed. Kinda wanna delete my ao3.. What do i do
I’m so sorry it took my a couple days to get back to you anon. Life has been... well, life, lmao.
But ok, listen. I absolutely feel you. I went through a writer’s block as recently as this past summer/early fall for... I want to say two or three months at least? It was rough. I hated reading over my own stuff because it all just read as terrible to me, the pace rushed and dialogue bad, etc etc etc. (and lord almighty, don’t get me STARTED on how I felt when I realized I was abandoning a fic from an old fandom oops)
It’s hard to get out of that. And ultimately every writer is a little different, so I can only tell you how I get out of ruts.
Before we get to how to start writing again though, I want to say that if you’re overwhelmed by the stress of thinking of reader’s waiting for more? Officially put the fic on Hiatus. Edit your summary to say “This fic is on Hiatus” so that you know that anyone reading it knows it could be a very, very long time, if ever. I have only really needed to do that once, but found it helped to take the pressure off. If you receive email notifications for comments, maybe turn those off for a while. Come back to them later.
Ok, and now. My big, fancy, all important advice:
For me, the number 1 objective is to force yourself to get words down on the page. To get yourself writing again, you need to fucking write.
There’s a couple different strategies I’ve try when I’m stuck.
One of the first is to reread the story I want to work on. That usually works if it’s the kind of block that isn’t about hating my writing so much as just staring at the page and not knowing how to word. In your case and with that specific kind of feeling though, it may not be so relevant because yeah. Right now your writing feels like shit to you. So this is something to consider for future blocks.
The next thing I’ll usually do is just. Brute force it. I force myself to write a sentence, and won’t let myself delete it. And I’ll keep forcing myself to write until I’ve got at least a paragraph or two. It’ll be slow, and it will be painful, and it will feel like I’m writing the worst writing in the world. Just absolute garbage.
But a paragraph or two will eventually roll over into more, and usually when I reread over it later I’ll realize it wasn’t nearly as bad as it had felt like it was at the time. And the most important thing is I’m getting back into the flow of the fic. Often from that point the rest just falls back into place.
Brute forcing it by yourself can be tricky though. If you’re not sure how to get yourself to do that, look into some writing tools to motivate you to just get down words as fast as you can! A couple suggestions I have are:
Word Sprints: This website is just one way to do this particular exercise, but I found it super helpful in the past! Word sprint/word wars/speed runs/etc are basically a game-like situation where you and other writers have a set amount of time to write as many words as you can. The Word Sprints website has 25 minute spans with 5 minute breaks, and you can either join the global one (which I don’t recommend lmao) or you can make your own group and invite other writers to it. This specific site allows you to see how many words the other folks in the group have written in real time, so it can help motivate through fun competition if that’s something that appeals to you.
You don’t have to be constrained by the site though. I’m part of a TF fan content creators discord where folks sometimes just run our own, usually with more like just 10 or 15 minute long sprints and then everyone shares how many words they wrote at the end of the sprint. It can be a really nice way to change the focus away from the quality of the words your putting down to the quantity. Because listen -- you can always go back and edit lower quality writing, but you can’t do anything with no writing to work with at all, you feel?
(If you happen to be in the TF fandom and feel comfortable messaging me off anon, feel free to do so and I’ll definitely send you an invite to the discord. It’s really nice to have a space to talk with other writers and problem solve with folks who know the pain, haha)
Fighter’s Block: If something that involves other people doesn’t appeal, no worries! This web app is basically a simple little rpg style game. You put in a word count that you want to reach (so maybe something as little as 100 or 200 words) and then you go into a fight. In this case you’re motivated to write fast because your health goes down while you’re idle, and the enemy’s health is your word count, so you defeat them by reaching your word count. It’s a fun little game and is a great alternative to word sprints.
I know there’s other similar sites, so don’t be afraid to search for a tool that fits you.
Another way you might be able to get words out is by abandoning where you left off for now and writing another scene that you’re excited about. I personally don’t do this because I have to write in order -- I just have to!!!! -- but I know a LOT of writers who bounce around and then knit the scenes together.
Or really, just mix it up in general. Do you always write at home? Try taking your laptop to a coffee shop for the express purpose of writing. That’s something I do a LOT. Always write on a computer? Try writing on your phone. I’ve even seen a post going around about changing your font to comic sans and that helping! Shake things up. Try something new. You might find something that works better for you!
Mmmmm I think that’s about all the advice I have personally since those are my go to’s. But keep in mind it’s not the end of the world if that doesn’t work for you -- all writers are different!! If I’ve learned anything from talking to other writers, it’s that we all have different ways we do it, different tools and formats and styles and all of it.
And ultimately? Don’t forget that fanfiction is about self-indulgence. It’s about you! If it’s stressing you out way too much, take a break. Put that shit on hiatus. Turn off notifications from ao3. Leave it alone for a while. You do you. Ultimately, while it may feel cruel, you don’t owe your readers anything. You’re doing this hobby because you like to, and you shared it with them by choice.
If the need is strong enough that you want to delete, look into orphaning your works. That way it’s no longer connected to you in any way, but it’s still available to readers.
I wish you only the best, Anon, and can only hope I was of any help at all, haha

The Best Policy
Theron exhales.
“Probably too much to hope it’d stay a secret for long,” he mutters, straightening up. He doesn’t let go of her, though, fingers working along her neck- after this long in kolto she ought to be a limp mess but it’d probably take years to get all the tension out of her muscles. Her shoulder’s better for the time spent soaking, at least. “I just- Force, I’m never going to hear the end of it. You’re sure Lana doesn’t already know? My dossier-”
Nine does shake her head then, immediately regrets it, and makes a muffled mmph noise instead that’s half-negation and half trying not to throw up on the War Room table. “She doesn’t. And that was never in your dossier- say what you like about the state of the Republic now, whoever knew that secret kept their cards close. None of us knew.”
“But my mother was, wasn’t she? After Rishi-”
“No. We kept that out deliberately, even after we knew.”
(It hadn’t even been her idea; Lana had been the one to suggest the omission. “It will make him far too much of a target. Anyone trying to lure out the Grand Master-”
Guilty conscience or not, Lana had been right. That was a method she’d used herself when there was no other way to a target: take a friend or lover or spouse instead, living collateral to be dangled as bait.  (Never children. She drew the line at children. Ruthlessness was all well and good, but that kind of sociopathy was a one way ticket to a padded cell- or Shadow Town, which was just a padded cell with better locks.) With his parentage on his dossier Theron would have had every Sith with access to the mainframe- which was nearly all of them back then, puppet to the Council that Sith Intelligence was in its resurrected form- hunting him within a week. He’d have been dead, or worse, within two. And for what? By the rules of negotiation he’d have been doomed, a marginally valuable hostage that the Republic would never in a hundred years have bartered for one of its most celebrated heroes. Satele might have come for him herself, of course. But would she have?
Lana had looked to her, questioning, and she heard Theron in her head: my agent, the words bitter on his tongue. Like it’s a coincidence we share a name.
“It wouldn’t be fair, would it?” She’d nodded, locking down the file. There was very little fair about their line of work and nothing given for free, but this seemed somehow right after the awfulness of Rishi. It wasn’t a question of judgment. Her judgment was fine. It was- “I agree. We leave it out.” )
He has to clear his throat before he continues, whatever he meant to say first catching on his  tongue. “I didn’t... I didn’t know that. Thank you.”
“Thank Lana,” she says. Theron’s hands go still. “She approved the addendum.”
“I’m almost afraid to ask. Did she think you’d go too easy on me?”
She turns her head just enough that he can see her wink. “Or put too much in. Theron Shan, Republic SIS. Caf addict. Terrible taste in music-”
“You used to let me pick the music, if I remember correctly.” Hands slipping beneath the knot of her hair, he cups the base of her skull, leans down to kiss the top of her head and then her forehead and then further still, curling over her to nip at the tip of her nose. “I must have missed the complaints trying to block out your off-key singing.”
“I like you-” she closes her eyes, a slow blink; he’s not wrong. She was never any good at singing- “so I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that. Let’s see. Easily identified due to prominent cybernetics and appears to own exactly one jacket, or possibly twelve copies of the same jacket. Marginal slicer. Does this absolutely delightful thing with his tongue-”
When Theron grins she can feel it, his breath huffing against her face. He’s trying not to laugh but can’t quite hold it back and he has to let go of her to brace himself against the table. “Please tell me you’re not serious.”
“Of course I’m not.” Oh, it sounds good to hear him laugh. He’s so good at distracting her from the stress of everything and she’s been so bad at reciprocating; she brings him caf and the best of what she can sneak from the mess hall, pulls him into bed to work the day’s tension off in pleasanter ways, but it’s not nearly enough. He deserves so much better than her fumbling attempts at comfort. “Someone else might have gotten ideas-” she rests her hand on his, clumsy in its heavy brace- “and I wouldn’t want them trying to edge in on my territory.”
“Your?”
A loaded question for all of its brevity.
She shrugs in reply, forcing a smile in place of words she doesn’t know how to say, and Theron overlaps her little finger with his thumb. She can’t quite feel it properly- what ought to be the friction of his skin on hers just registers as pressure- but it’s better than nothing. Better than it should be. A gift. (Or not, but the idea of the alternative is far less pleasant.)
“It wouldn’t have been much,” she says softly, “in the long run. But if the war had kept going it might have kept you out of the crosshairs for a little while. We just- I just-”
The corners of his mouth quirk upward. “Not ‘compromised objectivity’?”
“Certainly not. I’m a professional, after all.” He’s still standing just beside her chair; she leans on him, rests her aching head against his side. “And we did say no strings.”
“We did. No strings, no sides, intact judgment et cetera.” Theron glances down at her and then turns, just enough that she can rest against his stomach instead. When he exhales she moves along with him, gently to-and-fro with the in and out of his breath. “So I probably shouldn’t mention that I put a DNE on your file after Ziost, then.”
She blinks. Lies by omission were one thing, the usual selective recordkeeping that let one spare allies and target enemies as the situation required, but- “Trant let you? Forgive me when I say that seems unlikely.”
“Let is a strong word. He asked me how to put together a team that’d survive you and I gave him my honest opinion: we couldn’t. Do Not Engage.” He scrawls the words in the air with his finger. “You were taking us apart- no, no, I know you didn’t have a choice-” she’d gone tense against his body, not wanting to argue; they were all following their orders and they both know that but she must have killed a dozen or more of his friends in those last few months of war before the Zakuulans came. But he strokes her hair until she calms. “We all did what we had to back then and despite what my… what Jace said, my loyalty to the Republic was never a question. But when it came to you-”
“I told you I was bad for you.”
“Stop that. I told you-” his voice is gentle and he almost taps her forehead before he mercifully thinks better of it- that would have hurt, today- and just presses his fingertip against it instead- “that you weren’t. Aren’t. You saved me. I had to- I had to return the favor.”
Stars, she doesn’t deserve him. “He didn’t listen, you know.”
“I know. But I tried.” Theron sighs. “Anyway, you’re sure Lana doesn’t-?”
Three knocks.
Lana’s silhouetted in the doorway when it slides open, caf pot in one hand and three mugs dangling from the other. “I take you’ve finished your calls? You mentioned before that we three needed to talk.”
“Yes. Hold on.” She presses the intercom, opening a line to the bridge. “Kaliyo, we’ll be in the War Room. Ring through if we’re needed.”
“Got it.” The speaker crackles as the reply comes through. “Ears off?”
Nine sighs. “What do you think?”
“Secrets, secrets are no fun,” Kaliyo drawls. “Locking you down. Have fun.”
She straightens in her seat, beckoning Lana into the room; Theron takes a step back and then settles into the chair beside hers. “Two quick things before we start- I’ve got Ioana Rist working on a countermeasure to the Exarchs’ new little trick.”
“How much is that going to cost us? Their work doesn’t come cheaply.” Setting the caf and cups down on the table between them, Lana slips around to the far side.
“Only a case or two of brandy. I’ll talk to Hylo about sourcing it, but that’ll be strictly out of my pocket. We’re on fragile enough ground with our Jedi as it is without word getting around that I’m using a Force-breaker.”
Lana wrinkles her nose. “Not just the Jedi. The Council banned them for a reason.”
“The Council banned Force-breaker toxins-” she rolls her eyes and even that small motion makes the world spin- “because they’re afraid of what people like me would do if we had them. But that’s beside the point. Second, I’ve finally got a lead on the Alderaan staging site we discussed last week. It won’t be actionable for a month, though, and I need to-” she pauses. She needs to figure out what the fuck she’s going to do. Research first, she supposes: she thought Galen had retired after that business with Malgus but his new rank certainly suggests otherwise- had he gone back voluntarily? That might be something she could use. “I can’t delegate that, either. So if we hear anything more from Voss before-”
“I was going to save that news until we got back to Odessen, but I did hear from our Gormak friends. Apparently their visions have coalesced.” Lana says the last word like she wants to spit it out- for all her Sithness she always was a skeptic, with little faith in the prophecies and mysticism that drove some of her peers, and she seemed to find the Voss- and Gormak, by proxy- particularly maddening. “We have a timeline.”
Theron’s already poured himself a mug of caf and pauses mid-sip with it still raised to his mouth. “You didn’t tell me that.”
“It’s... not an ideal timeline.”
“Nine needs to rest, Lana. How not ideal?” He frowns.
She reaches out for her own mug; Theron fills it unprompted and she curls her fingers around it. The warmth, at least, she can feel.
Lana slumps into her seat. “Twelve days. I tried to argue it, but the-”
“She has a broken wrist. There’s no way she’s going to-”
The headache hits her like an icepick to the temple- ah, concussions- and she winces, closing her eyes as they bicker back and forth. “Would both of you,” she snaps, “please shut up and let me speak?”
They actually do.
“Twelve days. We’re- what, four days from Odessen now?”
“Three and a half,” Lana says quietly. “And I’ve mapped a route back to Voss that uses some of the Imperial hyperspace lanes. We could get there in six days, I think. Possibly faster, with Theron piloting.”
Theron hums idly under his breath, the way he always did when he was doing calculations in his head. “Giving us two days’ turnaround- maybe three. Not enough.”
“I’ll manage.” The moment the words leave her mouth she hears them both sigh; she makes a face at them, tongue sticking out. “Hush. I’ll spend the rest of the trip home in the tank, and I’ll check in with Doctor Lokin once we’re there. I’ve gone back into the field sooner after worse.”
“We can still refuse. Visions notwithstanding, if you aren’t ready-”
“I’ll be ready, Lana.” Does she really have a choice? “Tell the Gormak to expect us.”
(There are many ways to hasten the healing process. She sees his outline on the backs of her eyelids, brilliant white against the darkness. Good as new in hours, rather than days or weeks- better than new. Stronger. Quicker. I could-
Pass. Go away.
Valkorion chuckles and something’s hiding beneath the laughter, dark and creeping and ugly for all his sleekness and his gleaming armor. Look at you. Broken by a mere exarch. My children are going to kill you, little Cipher. And I may very well let them.)
“Nine?” When she blinks back to herself Lana’s biting her lip, eyes narrowed. “Was that-”
“It’s nothing- more color commentary as per usual. I’m fine.”
They look at each other across the table, Lana and Theron with matching expressions- she’s not fine, of course she isn’t fine and they all know that but no one wants to be the first to say it. Saying it out loud makes it real. Instead, they turn to each other.
“Send me the route.” Theron finishes off his cup and pours himself another. “I’ll look at it tonight and see if I can shave a little more time off.”
“Of course.” Lana’s datapad rings metallic against the tabletop as she pulls it from its pocket in her tunic. “Transmitting now. But- oh, Force, never mind. The rest of it can wait until later. What was it that you wanted to discuss?”
“I- um.” Clearing his throat, Theron fidgets in his chair until the seat creaks beneath his restless weight.
Poor Theron.
“Several days ago,” she begins so he doesn’t have to, “Theron became aware of a complication of his recent trip to Coruscant that we- and by we I mean I- are going to have to deal with.”
Lana nods. “I assume you’re referring to Agent Balkar?”
“Only indirectly. That he was there at all was a particularly bizarre coincidence, true, but that wasn’t the complication.” If only it were that simple. “To be frank, we probably owe him a favor. He was the one who told Theron about the death mark.”
“The what.” It isn’t a question. Hands folded, Lana’s holding on to herself so tightly that her knuckles blanch. “How did we get from a failed recruiting trip to a- and who in the Void placed the mark? With whom?”
Theron glances at her out of the corner of his eye; she rests her hand on his. “Do you want me to-?”
“No. I was the one who fucked it up,” he says. “You shouldn’t have to make excuses for me. We lied to you, Lana, but Nine did it because I asked her to. It wasn’t a recruiting trip. I went to Coruscant to ask my father for a favor.”
Lana’s expression barely changes, just the faintest hint of hurt in the set of her mouth and the line of her shoulders. “You told me you didn’t know who Theron’s father was, Nine. Or was that a lie as well?” Oh, hells. They should have told her sooner. If they can’t trust each other-
Theron shakes his head vehemently. “She didn’t. I promise she didn’t. Not until it went bad.”
“An understatement, I think,” Lana snaps. “But even so, why would your own father-”
“Jace Malcom is my father.”
(Is this the first time he’s said those words out loud? She wonders. She thinks so.)
Theron slouches lower into his chair, staring at the tabletop and carefully avoiding returning either of their gazes- her own cast sideways in quasi-apology, Lana’s an open-mouthed stare- until she taps one of his fingers with hers; his focus shifts toward the motion and she traces out a clumsy message. It’s okay.   He doesn’t look at her, doesn’t move, but the frown lines across his forehead soften.
Clearing her throat, Lana finally breaks the silence hanging over the room. “Somehow I feel as though I ought to say I’m sorry.”
“Not as sorry as I am.” He sighs. “Maybe I should start at the beginning.”
***
The caf pot’s empty by the time he finishes, an uneven split: three cups to Lana instead of her usual tea, more than enough that a fine tremor settles into her hands by the middle of the second, and two for Theron plus half of her own. (She managed a few scant sips before her stomach started to turn; she’d pushed it away with a grimace and Theron paused in his storytelling long enough to fetch her a glass of water instead. She always knew when she was really hurting, she’d used to say, when she couldn’t keep her caf down.)
“So.” Lana licks her lips. “Jace Malcom, your father, believes you’re a traitor to the Republic, Marcus Trant wants you dead, and both of them think Nine somehow brainwashed you into defecting.”
“That’s it in a nutshell, yeah. I probably should have expected it, but… y’know. Family, right?” Rubbing his eyes and then pushing his hair back from his face- it’s a mess, flopping across his forehead; then again her own’s a mess of knots from floating and Lana’s got circles beneath her eyes so dark they look like bruises- Theron smiles wryly.
“I can’t say I do. It would figure, though- all those years spent making sure my work couldn’t be traced back to me, and I end up taking the blame for something I didn’t even do.”
That gets a laugh out of both of them, at least, if only a small one, before Lana opens a new window on her datapad. “We’ll need to put new security measures in place, of course. I have a few suggestions, I think, if you haven’t already-”
“Not so many. Theron knows how to watch himself, though we’ll need a hard lockdown,” she says, “the day after our retun- no one outbound without proof of orders. If any of Trant’s people have made it to Odessen he’s going to need to call them back, and they’ll do one of three things.” She counts off each one on her fingers. “Least likely, they’ll stay undercover. That’s a long game and the SIS is spread thin enough that he can’t afford to keep too many eyes on us. Marginally more probably someone will make an attempt against orders. Suicidal, but if they hate us that much… but they’re probably going to try to slip the net, and we’ll need to be ready.”
Eyebrow raised, Lana stops taking notes. “Why would he call them back? He doesn’t know that we know, correct?”
“No. But he’s going to.”
“And you think that’s enough to make him cancel the mark? When I was Minister I had the misfortune of having to negotiate with that man more than once, Nine, and I’ll tell you from from experience: he isn’t going to back down because you ask him nicely.”
She bares her teeth in a slow smile. “You ought to know me better than that by now. I’m not planning on asking nicely.”
“Then what-”
“I’m going to blackmail him.”
Lana blinks. Pushing back out of her chair, she walks wordlessly around the table and taps the access panel beside the door and when it slides open she simply leaves the room.
Theron raises one hand, opening his mouth to speak. She shushes him and listens instead to Lana’s quiet footsteps in the corridor, a cabinet opening- the middle one in the shared mess by the way it squeaks- and the clink of glass and then more footsteps, louder, returning. When Lana enters the room once more she’s got a half-full bottle of whiskey clutched in one hand and a particularly disgruntled expression on her face; she retakes her seat, pulls the stopper free of the bottle, and pours a generous portion into her coffee cup before draining the whole thing at a go.
“All right.” Lana coughs. “Now I’m ready. Say that one more time.”
***
It’s not a good plan. She knows that. It’s probably a terrible plan.
It’s all they’ve got.
She wobbles when she tries to get up. They’ve sat talking too long and her head hurts and her wrist hurts and she could probably sleep for a month and it wouldn’t be enough (even if she just spent five years in stasis- but she wasn’t sleeping then, she was dying.) When she has to stop to brace herself against the wall for the third time in a dozen steps, Theron lifts her up, her arm around his neck.
“Come on,” he says. “Let’s get you back to medbay.”
She wrinkles her nose. He’s right, of course, but that doesn’t mean she has to like it. “Are you sure you two don’t need me to-?”
“Believe it or not, we can occasionally plan things on our own.” Lana- slightly more relaxed now thanks to the whiskey- points toward the door. “Theron and I will start work on this in the morning. For now, you need to recover and the rest of us need to rest.”
Theron nods, steadying his grip on her. “I’ll put a few things together once I’ve got Nine set up the tank. We can talk after-”
“You will not.” She rests her head on his shoulder. “Lana, make sure he sleeps. If he doesn’t, shock him and throw his jacket out the airlock.”
“She wouldn’t dare.”
Lana wiggles her fingers in Theron’s direction. “Don’t be so certain. Now go.”
Careful not to jostle her, he carries her down the hall and around the corner to the medbay, sets her down on the examining table while he gets the kolto tank set up for her next round. For better or for worse he’s an expert at running it now and after a few keystrokes it chimes softly, soft blue light illuminating the base.
“Tank’s ready if you are.” He turns back toward her but she’s only half-listening, attention drifting over to the scanner and the readout still scrolling across its screen.
“I’m not. But I know that doesn’t matter.“ Pulling off the wrist splint, she sets it down beside her. “Will you download a copy of that scan to my datapad? I want to show it to Lokin.”
He nods. “He’s already got it. We needed to make sure we hadn’t made things worse while we were trying to set your wrist- Force knows I’m a lousy medic when it comes to anything beyond medpacks and suturing. But if you want a hard copy I can-”
“No,” she yawns. “Never mind.” She slips her shirt off next, one-handed. There’s no rule against clothing in a kolto tank but no point in dirtying what she’s wearing, either, and she’s used to it this way; in the infirmary at school and in Intelligence training and even in the clinic at headquarters it was always the same with any major injuries. Kit off, my girl. Let’s get a look at you.
It wasn’t a bad thing in retrospect, not for her. It was only a body, after all, not something shameful to be covered up, and by her teens she could have- and did, once, thanks to a senior class prank that left the whole lower sixth with nothing but their identification badges and a single hand towel each with twenty minutes before the midyear examination began- walked naked through the Academy halls with her head held high. (She’d brought the towel, but only because she drew the line at sitting bare-assed in a hard plastic chair for the entire exam. Two-thirds of the class refused to leave the dormitories; the maestra failed them all.
She had the top mark.)
Theron helps her down. “Pants off too?”
“You know me too well.” His fingers hook into her waistband and she wriggles just a bit to help ease the fabric down over her hipbones. Ungraceful, still off-balance, she lifts one foot and then the other clear. “Though I’m afraid it’s all tease and no payoff tonight.”
His hands rest carefully on her waist as he straightens up, a kiss pressed feather-light to her forehead. “I don’t mind a rain check,” he murmurs. “The best things are worth waiting for.
“Flatterer.”
“Not flattery when it’s true.” And then he helps her up into the tank, up over the lip of the base until she’s standing securely within it, and keys in the final sequence. The glass surround slides shut, closing her in as the seals engage; the kolto starts to bubble up through the ports, covering her feet, her ankles, up to her knees and then her waist and then her chest-
She hates this part.
In and out. In and out. She slows her breathing. The kolto reaches her chin.
Theron presses his hand to the glass. Just breathe- she can’t hear him but she can read the words on his mouth- I’ll be here when you wake up.
She nods, lifting her hand to match his. I know. Now go to sleep-
The last syllable cuts off when she inhales and the kolto fills her mouth, covers her head and she can’t breathe, oh Void (every single time she should be used to it by now but she’s choking and she’s going to die in here and-)
It’s okay, sweetheart. It’s okay. He pauses a moment. The kolto’s kicking in; her vision goes hazy. I l-
Her eyes close as the sedatives take her.
***
Another three days gone.
By some miracle- Theron could be impressively persuasive when he set his mind to it- Lana seems almost convinced of the plan by the time they land. More than that, between the two of them they’ve drafted a security protocol that might actually work and that they probably ought to have had in place all along: while their ragtag rebellion needs all the help it can get, they all admit they haven’t been screening newcomers with any particular scrutiny.
They can’t afford to scare recruits away. For so many of them Odessen is hope despite the war, despite the threat of Arcann and his fleet arriving any day, hope that maybe they can win this after all and the galaxy can go back to being what it was or maybe something even better. They need that hope.
But she’s not a general, not a Lord or a chancellor or a queen. She’s a spy.
If they’re going to make her be the former, she can keep them all safe as the latter, too.
***
Doctor Lokin’s sitting at his workbench when she reaches his little room at the back of the lab.
Though he was officially assigned to Military Strategy (much as Aygo would prefer it they can’t stay entirely aboveboard all the time, and Eckard was as sly as they came, half of his record a black box of redacted text even to her) he spent much of his time in the science wing; he’d only partially recovered from his near-permanent transformation, his cancers stabilized but still more than enough to keep him out of the field for good. In between strategy sessions it was one experiment after another, one more chance at a cure.
She owes him that, after everything he did for her.
He looks her over quickly, glancing at the splint still on her wrist and the almost-faded bruises beneath her eyes that had been such a shock when she finally made it to a mirror. “Cipher. How are you feeling?”
“Like I had a console dropped on me a week ago? I’ve had worse.” A timer on the benchtop beeps. “I need you to check a few things, but if now isn’t convenient-“
“The wheel of research turns ever over,” he says, and smacks the timer until it quiets. “One moment.” Raising an autopipette over a row of racked test tubes, he adds a single drop of liquid to each one and they start to glow a violent shade of neon green. “There we are. You have my attention.”
Is the rack vibrating? Oh, dear. “You saw my initial scan, yes? I need you to look at my wrist again.”
Lokin nods, rolling back from the bench. “Not healing as expected? Remember, the neuropathy might take weeks-“
“That’s the problem. It’s healed- bone and nerve. I could use another day or two to knit the fracture a little more before I starting training on it, but it feels perfectly normal.” He raises an eyebrow as she hands him a datacard. “This is from this morning. 144 tank-hours since injury.”
The casters of his chair rattle across the floor tiles as he moves to a console tucked into one corner. The card slots into an empty port with a click, the first images of the scan loading one by one until a cross-section of her left hand and wrist fill the screen.
“Good callus formation,” Lokin murmurs. “Appropriate to tank-hours. The compression on the neurovascular bundle’s been reduced, of course, so I would expect to- hm. Let me cross-reference.” He opens another file- her previous scan, the one they’d sent from Nightshrike - and lays the sections atop each other. He squints.
He squints again.
“Stay here.”
She does. It never did do well to ignore doctor’s orders. A few minutes later he wheels a small cart into the lab, a screen mounted on its top and a tangle of wires dangling beneath. Lokin gestures to her wrist, to the splint hidden beneath her shirtsleeve.
“Brace off, sleeve up, and bring that extra chair with you.” He taps a clean corner of the workbench. “Hand here, please. Don’t move.”
Staying still for the cleansing swab’s easy. Staying still for the needles is slightly harder but she exhales (her tattoo was far worse- this is just a few little pokes, sharp stings before the pain eases) as he connects the leads to the taped-down electrodes, testing, testing, testing and then looking to the screen and testing again.
“It’s normal,” she says, “isn’t it?”
“Very nearly. Ninety-five percent of your baseline-” he unclips the wires- “which is remarkable in and of itself given what I would have expected from your scans, and even more remarkable given that your best measurement since the incident on Corellia was eighty-eight percent. Pre- and post-carbonite.”
Pulling the needles out one by one, beads of blood well up in their places as she sets them on the countertop. Odd that the sight of her own blood is reassuring, that’s there’s still something of herself in her own body to go with the ghost in her brain and the spirit- AI, projection, whatever the fuck he is- in her spine-
She looks up. “Eckard, I need to ask you something and it’s very important that you’re honest with me. My spinal implant, the one that Watcher X installed- you told me a long time ago that it was inactive. Are you absolutely certain?”
He sighs.
Oh, Void.
“I suppose that would depend,” he begins carefully, “on one’s definition of inactive."

He only meant to keep her safe.
He only meant to keep her safe.
If she’d known it, at her lowest when she was afraid of losing control again more than she was afraid of anything else, she might have done something foolish. She would have done something foolish. She would have-

If they hear it in her voice at dinner that night neither Lana nor Theron say anything at all.
But Theron brings her honey-sweetened tea instead of her usual caf that night and the tea is one of Lana’s blends; she knows it by its scent. Curling up on the couch, she holds the cup between her hands and sips at it slowly. The splint has to stay another few days- she promised Lokin at least four hours in the tank tomorrow and the day after, before they leave again- but the heat’s pleasant on her fingertips and the tea’s heavily spiced, pleasantly tingly on her tongue.
“Everything’s ready for tomorrow.” Theron sits down on the bed, his duffel at his feet. They’ve only been back on Odessen for twelve hours and it feels like years with all the work already done; they’ve barely had time to breathe, let alone see to mundanities like unpacking or laundry or operational reports. “Hylo had a lot of questions I couldn’t answer but she’s on board. We’re going to need a half-dozen barrels of Alderaanian ale, though.”
“Do what you need to, and forward me the invoice. I’ll take care of it.”
He flops back, staring up at the ceiling. “I don’t even want to move. Wake me up next year?”
She doesn’t want him to move, either. His quarters might not be safe despite the extra hallway cameras, for one thing. They wouldn’t have stopped her, once upon a time, and she knows he thinks she’s being paranoid but she can’t shake the feeling that something’s moving around them in a pattern she can’t quite see yet. “Go to sleep, then. I don’t mind.”
“I know, but I’ll probably go straight through until morning at the rate I’m fading here. Plus, I still need to haul this thing back downstairs.” His foot connects with the bag as he kicks at it blindly. “Gotta hang up that fancy jacket you bought me before it gets wrinkly.”
“Just hang it up here, Theron,” she rasps- ugh. Another sip; she clears her throat. “There’s more than enough room. And it’s leather. It doesn’t wrinkle.”
“Semant-” Theron rolls onto his side, angling his body so he can look down the stairs to see her. “Wait. Now I have a toothbrush and closet space?”
She makes a face at him. “You know what I mean. If you don’t want to stay-”
“Of course I want to stay. I just-” He sits up. “Is this just for now, until we get this thing with the mark worked out, or-?”
A very good question.
She wants him to stay. Stars, she wants him to stay. Her dreams are better with him close, still restless but somehow bearable, and that alone might be enough to keep her sanity in all this mess. But if what they are- another good question she only knows how to answer as she did a week ago, a ferocious mine through gritted teeth- still needs to be kept secret-
Curling in tight, she tucks her knees up to her chest. “That’s up to you. I don’t want to make things more difficult for you than they already are.”
“Do you want me to stay?”
(She doesn’t know how to do this, not when it’s true. But it can’t be that hard, can it?) “Yes,” she says. “I do.”
Theron gets up, a yawn barely hidden behind his smile, and comes back down to her; he settles in beside her on the couch, arm around her shoulders, until she’s nestled in against him. “Then I’m not going anywhere.”
*** Author’s Note: this wasn’t where this chapter was supposed to end. But seeing how that part’s still fighting me six weeks on (and three 50+ hour workweeks in there didn’t help), we’ll wrap up here and deal with a certain SIS director next time…

Hello, friends! We’re doing a tutorial thing for our new participants. For those of you who can LiveJournal perfectly well or who are otherwise not here for this, I hope scrolling past 1 post a week for 6-7 weeks won’t be a hardship.
LIVEJOURNAL FOR SCOOBIES #1: HOW TO FIND THINGS
When one loves Buffy, it can be fun to visit livejournal dot com, where this fandom lived for years and much awesomeness was created.
On LJ, we can read classic works of literature, some of which aren’t archived anywhere else, and find rec lists galore. We can vote on important issues (this link isn’t worksafe) and seek answers to eternal questions, such as what Angel was thinking in IWRY and what everyone’s daemon would be. And we can still, in the year of our lord 2018, participate in active communities like @seasonal-spuffy, @iwrymarathon-blog, @buffyversetop5, and more.
These things go more smoothly when one has a decent working knowledge of the site. :) Luckily, that’s exactly what I have, and I’d love to share it! This will be a series of 6 tutorials, covering LiveJournal navigation, commenting, communities, and posting. While my main agenda is to help more people use Seasonal Spuffy, these posts will be for anyone who wants ‘em, so I’ll include a somewhat broader range of examples.
This post is about navigation. Ever had trouble finding the next chapter or more works by the same author? Do you wish all those customized buttons in people’s journals would do what it says on the tin? Maybe you just want to find your way around the site in general? Read on...
TL;DR:
tags are good for 95% of your browsing needs; mark the “Readability” checkbox for an easier life; and the search feature is at livejournal.com/rsearch .
How to find my dashboard? (Or news feed? You know, the posts of my friends?)
Click “Friends Feed” at the top of any LiveJournal page (screenshot 1 above), or go to yourusername.livejournal.com/feed/
How to find my profile, settings, personal messages, and all that?
The main menu opens if you hover over your username in the top right corner (screenshot 1).
How to find the right button in someone’s journal if they’ve code-named them all?
People can customize their journals, including button labels. If you’d like to remove someone’s custom style and view the journal with the default interface, click “Readability” in the top right corner (screenshots 2-3).
How to find all the fics by the same author?
Sometimes, authors put a masterlist at the top of their journal. See velvetwhip.livejournal.com for a beautiful example.
When they don’t, your best bet is to go to theirusername.livejournal.com/tag and look for a tag like “masterlist” or “index” or “fic”.
If you see a tag like “fic” at the bottom of a post in the author’s journal, you can click that, too (screenshot 5).
How to find all the entries about the same ship/character/topic...?
To browse a journal or community by categories like these, use the tags. Tags live at the bottom of posts (screenshot 5) and also in the tag page of the journal/community. To go to the tag page, click “Tags” (screenshot 3) or type the URL journalname.livejournal.com/tag
How to find the next chapter?
Authors generally want to help you out with this, but what they do varies.
Sometimes, authors link the next chapter at the bottom of each chapter.
If you’re in a journal that just contains the one fic, feel free to go to the next entry by clicking a right arrow at the top or bottom of the post (screenshot 4 and down below what you can see in screenshot 5). Most often, though, there will be other entries in someone’s journal in between the fic, so the next entry is not usually the next chapter.
Most of the time, authors create a TAG for the fic. You can click that tag at the bottom of the fic chapter (screenshot 5), and it will take you to all the chapters, newest first (screenshot 6). If there are many chapters, you might have to go a few pages back to find the beginning (click “Previous 10″ at the bottom of the page or add ?skip=10, ?skip=20, or similar at the end of the URL). If you’re in a community instead of a personal journal, there won’t normally be a fic tag, and the author/creator tag is probably the closest thing you can get.
Occasionally, authors use the memories feature to create tables of contents for their fic (screenshot 8). Memories are like bookmarked posts. You can go to someone’s memories using the navigation bar at the top of their journal (screenshot 3), and then you can check if the fic title is a keyword in the right sidebar and scroll down to filter by it.
If all else fails or if you enjoy shortcuts, try searching the author’s journal. The search icon (a magnifying glass) is at the top right corner of the page, and if you click it from someone’s journal, it searches that journal. Also, you can always find the search feature at livejournal.com/rsearch. For finding a chapter, you could use basic entry search (make sure not to use the author’s username as a search term there) or click the advanced settings icon and filter your search by author. See examples in screenshot 9.
How to find the rules/info of a community?
The profile of a community is almost always its “About” page that explains how to use it. You can go to the profile from the main page of a community (screenshot 3) or by typing the URL communityname.livejournal.com/profile
How to find entries by time of posting?
Journals and communities have an archive (sometimes called a calendar). You can open it from the main page of the journal/comm (screenshot 3) or by going to the URL journalname.livejournal.com/calendar . Once there, you can view posts by year, month, or day (screenshot 7). It’s also possible to hop straight to a certain year or month, or date by adding it to the end of the journal’s URL, for example, buffyversetop5.livejournal.com/2005 or buffyversetop5.livejournal.com/2018/01 , or buffyversetop5.livejournal.com/2017/10/31 .
How to find anything else, hopefully?
LiveJournal has a search icon at the top right corner. If you click it from someone’s journal, you can search that journal. Alternatively, you can go to livejournal.com/rsearch and search the whole site or any journal you like. See screenshot 9 for some examples. Note that entry search won’t recognize the author’s username; if you want to add the username to the search, use advanced settings.
How to find more help with using LiveJournal?
LiveJournal has extensive FAQs. For a quick start, try this one.
This tutorial by lolaann1 covers the basics well.
“LiveJournal for Dummies” is a community where many people have answered questions about using LiveJournal. Remember that you can search the community by clicking the search icon at the top right corner of the page.
And that’s all I could think of. If something in this post was confusing or if you have a related question & the resources in the last section didn’t help, feel free to ask! If I get many questions, I might make a separate post at the end.
Next week’s post will be about commenting. All the tutorials will eventually be found here.

EVENT DATE VOTING & THEME SUGGESTIONS STARTS NOW
Tumblr media
Once is over but we’re Swen, and we persist, that means it’s time for the 11th bi-annual Swan Queen Week!
If you’re new to SWEN and/or this event, Swan Queen Week is an entire week dedicated to making fic, gifs, graphics, fanmixes, vids, etc., for our two favorite ladies. During the Week, our goal is to flood our dashboards with as much Swan Queen as we can handle.
Please continue on below the cut for more information on how to participate, what to expect, and a few housekeeping matters.
EVENT DATE VOTING
The poll is now open to vote on our event dates. The poll will be open from now until July 14th, Midnight. If you are considering participating, please weigh in - I would like to make this as well-timed as possible for the majority. (If you are absolutely certain you won’t be participating in creating for the event, please skip this poll. However, even if you will not be creating you are welcome to participate in the theme/prompt suggestions, so please read on!)
THEME SUGGESTIONS WANTED
While that poll is open, we can also begin choosing our new theme. Each SQW is given a theme, or overarching idea, and once the theme is chosen we’ll pick seven more specific prompts (one for each day) to serve as inspiration for those fanworks. (You can see the previous masterlists in the sidebar for examples of how these break down.)
Before we can suggest and vote on our seven prompts, we’ll need to determine our theme, and that’s where you come in! The ask and submission boxes are now open, and will remain open for theme suggestions until [date], [time]. (You can also use the new IM system if you prefer!) If you have a suggestion for a theme, please send me a message between now and [date], and I will include it in a list of potential themes to vote on starting July 15th. The best theme suggestions will be fairly general, because remember we will need to break that idea down further into seven subcategories as our next step. If you have any questions about what a theme is or how to submit, please check out the FAQ, and/or send me a message.
Anyone can submit theme suggestions, and once our suggestions close, everyone will be allowed to vote (once) for their top 3 choices to determine the most popular idea. Please, please, please spread the word that theme suggestions are now open! The goal is to have our theme and prompts decided by August 12th, which will give us 2 weeks of prep, depending on the event dates chosen.
I have gotten a number of mixed reviews regarding the use of previously suggested themes being eligible again. While I understand that many people would like a new theme that has not been done before (i.e., not “Magical Mishaps”, “Alternate Universes”, or “Tropes & Cliches”, "Seven Deadly Sins"), because it is left up to participant voting, I will continue to accept previously used themes. However, as always, the last theme used is not eligible, and none of the previously used prompts are eligible. This means that, as “Movies” was our last theme, it is not eligible as the new theme.
While you are free to submit any theme suggestion you like, no harmful/offensive/discriminatory suggestions will be posted. If you are unsure if your suggestion is appropriate, please feel free to ask.
If you haven’t participated in theme suggesting before, the protocol is fairly simple. Simply submit your suggestion(s) to the submission box (if you have a longer list, long explanation, or link, this is recommended), or in the ask box (anon is on, so if you don’t have a tumblr account you can still participate).
If you need ideas, previously submitted theme suggestions can be found here, here, here, here, here, and here.
When posting submissions for voting on [date], URLs will not be included, however the winning theme will be credited after voting closes (unless you request otherwise).
Please note, if you have any questions about the theme concept, what a theme is, if your theme is appropriate, etc., ask me. In the past I’ve gotten many comments that people were unclear on this aspect of the event, and I am more than happy to talk to you about it!
SITE HOUSEKEEPING
As with previous weeks, I am going to do my best to reblog and post a lot between now and each milestone deadline to reach as many people as possible. For all repeat information (meaning new posts of the same information given previously or reblogs of posts I’ve already made), I will be using the tag “sqw mod spam”. Please blacklist this if you don’t want to get sick of the same information (especially since I’ll be reposting again to put these info posts back in the main tags more than once every week or so).
I may be taking on a helper. I am in talks with someone. So keep that in mind. And I still need a gif maker. If you’re interested please link your work in a message. Thanks, Swen.
If you have any questions, please give the FAQ a visit, especially if you are new to the idea of SQW. (And if you’re a pro it still couldn’t hurt to get a refresher!) If you have any unanswered questions at all please let me know! I am happy to help clarify.
Please remember to follow swanqueenweek and/or track the tag #swanqueenweek to see the most recent information.
Have fun thinking of themes, and please spread the word!

Craving You. Chapter19
A/N; Hi ya’ll, I am so sorry that it took forever to get this out to you. I have ran into a bunch of issues that have been recently cleared up. It constituted to writers block. But thanks to a wonderful anonymous person who pushed me to write helped me get back into writing. I hope this chapter is ok because I had no idea where to go with it at first. Only one more chapter to go sadly but thank you all so much for sticking around and telling me that you like it. This is my first ever series that is based on the song Craving You from Thomas Rhett. Also a huge thank you to Lakota @mein1928 with her help on editing some coma’s and such, I am a horrible person when it comes to coma and editing sentences. Also to Gaynor @secretlyfurrydragon she encourages me and keeps me motivated even when she’s sick as a dog to help me beta to. Without those two I’d be stuck. So thank you both.. Keep in mind that this is an Au alternate universe where Jensen is single and its just for enjoyment and to keep my head sane. Writing is my only thing I have to keep fighting everyday. I love you guys, and thank you again for the amazing comments. You are all awesome.. Please don't copy and paste on other sites reblog and comments are ok just no reposting. Thank u. Love ya all
Warnings: Gunfire, character injured, fighting, cussing, angst stuff..
Pairing; Jensen and Reader, Jared padalecki Gabriel, Kali, Cassie, Mark Sheppard, Mark Pelegrín, Bobby, Garth, Hendrixson, Jeffrey dean Morgan,
Jared’s POV
Moments before we were to go into the building to get Jensen and Kali out, Jeff’s cellphone had gone off with a list of download files, of so called employees that were in on this. We all took a good look at it, then we prepared to go into the building to get the innocents out. The second text Jeff got from HQ was an idea of the whereabouts of where Jensen and Kali may be, she had scouted the building herself on the down low before she had gotten caught but she was able to sent the information in they needed. Thanks to her doing that, we can rescue them and others that may be held against their will and we won’t be stumbling around in the dark looking for them.
“Alright, listen up you yahoos. No daring rescues, you follow my commands and keep your eyes open. Look all angles before you proceed, Jared and I will go in first, clear, then move on. You see anyone that is not on this list, get them out and have them stay by the van for safety. Rufus will be there to help them as well as Garth. Do I make myself clear on this?” he looked at all of us.
We all agreed and gave him our word we do as he said, then we put our tactical gear on for our protection, I held my breath a moment to pray to god that Jensen was ok. He’s like a brother to me and we have been in situations before where either he or I had no way out, but we always managed to rescue each other. But it’s always the same, because you never know if this may be his last. All situations are different, and it killed me to know I was this close to him. My heart pounded trying to push down my thoughts as we entered.
We pulled together and entered the building, people who were in there were looking at us freaked out a bit, but we showed them our ID’s and they were escorted out the building. We then took the stairwell and we looked before we opened the door to make sure no one else was hiding in there, then proceeded on Jeff’s command. The sounds of our boots echoed on the metal stairwell, and I kept thinking God don’t let anyone hear us coming because they could do anything to Jensen and Kali. I shook my head at the thought, Jeff opened the last door and we went into a hallway that was dark and very gloomy. Reminded me of a antique basement in some old house. There were no doors or windows and lights that shown above us were weak, not showing off a lot as our shadows moved across the walls.
Jeff held his hand back telling us to stop, he looked at me. “I hear gunfire, I want you all to be careful from here on out. Look for anything suspicious, Kali did say the door was built into the cement wall to make it look like nothing was there. Look for any cracks or anything, I’ll go this way, and you go straight take Gabe with you. Hendrixson and I will stay together.”
I nodded my head and we went to where we heard the gun fire. Once there, we were close enough to see someone coming out, I recognized her from the files. I let her walk away as I snuck up on her and covered her mouth from behind. “Do not make a sound, you do and it’ll be the last you ever do. Understand?” She nodded her head then I turned her around to face me. “How many are in there?”
She swallowed. “Everyone, good luck getting your friend back.” I narrowed my eyes at her in hate, then past her off to Gabe he took her out in handcuffs.
Turning back around, Gabe was able to open the door slightly. I told Jeff where we were and they came up in the rear as we all went in. “FBI! EVERYONE GET DOWN NOW!” I scanned the area to see where everyone was and what we were dealing with. To my surprise, Jensen and Kali had it under control.
Jensen’s POV,
After Mark was spilling my life to Y/N, I wanted to punch him so hard in the face and make him wish he never said anything. But that’s how Mark is, he’s vindictive and in order to get things done his own way he will do whatever it took. He walked over to me, took the back of my head in his grasp and bent my head back and looked me in the eyes, “How does it feel to have your life taken away Lieutenant?” He said with a evil sounding laugh.
I jerked my head back out of his grasp and showed him, I gathered enough strength to slam my forehead into his nose knocking him off balance. He stumbled backwards holding his nose that was now bleeding from the hit. Two of the goons that were holding me forced me down on my knees.
Mark stood really close and over me, he took a knife from his pocket moved it to my neck. I felt the blade nick my skin as I hiss. “Try it again and it won't be just a nick.” He then walked away from me and over to Cassie who was at Y/N’s side and dangerously close. “I want you to go to the front office and let everyone know they can leave for the day. Don’t give any inclinations of what’s really going on. If they ask questions, just tell them that we had a leak in the building or something. Understand?” He kissed her cheek and gave her a smile.
“Hm, what about her?” She took her hand to his cheek as she rubbing gently down his face.
“I’ll deal with her personally, right now we just need everyone out of the building so no one will get suspicion with what’s really happening,” he winked at her then kissed her.
She started to walked off, but Y/N had other ideas, I saw her place her foot out and Cassie not seeing it, tripped over it and landed face first on the ground. I tried to get away because I knew what was going to happen. Mark goes over to her and slaps her so hard it echoed in the room as her head jolts back with the slap as a red mark appears on her face. “Try it again you little bitch and it’ll be your last time,” he hissed at her.
He helped Cassie up and what I saw next was a surprise as my heart jumped, Kali was free from her ropes and jumped up to help Y/N, the goon holding me wouldn't let me go, so I couldn’t help her, I was still in handcuffs, but Kali had slid the keys to me which I grabbed before the goon could reach them. We fought as Mark Sheppard came from behind me and jumped on my back. His arms wrapped around my neck and forced me to bend backwards. I was struggling to breath, as he had me in a choke hold. I heard the gun go off in front of me, I then managed to put my full force into elbowing Mark Sheppard in the stomach as he fell down gasping for air. I then with Bobby’s help managed to uncuff one cuff, then turn around in time to knock Mark S out and the goon try to leave the room.
Cassie had left the room, Jared had busted in with the rest of the guys, Mark P stood there with his hands up in the air after Kali had control of him. My heart froze when I saw Y/N laying on her back on the ground with a pool blood beneath her.
Once I knew everyone was contained and handcuffed, I ran over to Y/N’s side. She wasn't moving, and barely breathing. I swallowed hard and looked up at Jared, “Call an ambulance, now!” I ordered him and tried to kneel as close as I could to her. My hands were shaking when I tried to hold her, but I remembered we weren't supposed to move them.
Jeff came over to me after clearing the room as he kneel down to check the wound. “Shit! I can’t tell if there is an exit wound,” as he took in a harsh breath.
“F-From the way it looks,” I tried to speak but I couldn’t as my heart felt like it literally stopped beating.
Jared came over to me and tapped my shoulder, “Ambulance is on the way, we have them all handcuffed and Hendrixson has Peligrino in cuffs and chains.”
I heard him talking but inside my head it was just noise, I was so worried about
Y/N, that I didn’t care what happened to me right now or anyone else. She wasn't moving, the color in her face drained from beautiful rosey red to pale white almost in seconds. Her forehead was covered in sweat, hair was matted, I took my right hand and removed some stray strands back from her face to see her. “Y/N? I’m right here ok? I’m here baby, and I’m not leaving you. Please hold on for me. I.. I love you.” I bent down to kiss her lips, they were turning blue and covered in her blood. “Don’t you give up you hear me!” I begged her, maybe a bit angrily, but I was trying to hold back a sob. Tears started to fall from my eyes, I would wipe it away and another one would follow. I then gently kissed her forehead and held her hand in mine. I closed my eyes a moment to say a silent prayer that YN’s going to be alright.

The Sims Community Census in a Nutshell
Sul sul!
As promised, here are the results of the survey that I put out for all of my followers. Please take these findings with a grain of salt; my following does not encompass everyone who plays The Sims. As such, it is possible that the results could be inaccurate to some degree.
Warning: the following post is very text-heavy.
The first question asked participants which games in The Sims series they currently play. The Sims two boasted a solid 83.7%, while The Sims 3 and 4 are each played by 34.2% and 35.6%, respectively. The next highest percentage is that of The Sims Medieval: 11.9%. The original game is tied with The Sims: Castaway Stories at 6.9%. Alternately, 4.5% of participants consider themselves lurkers, and several other games, including The Sims Bustin’ Out and MySims, rank at 0.5% each.
As for which title is the reigning favorite, The Sims 2 took the lead at 83.6%, with The Sims 3 following behind at 12.4%. The Sims 4 had a surprising 4%, while The Sims received no votes at all.
With regard to Simblr posting habits, the vast majority of simmers concentrate on one of these three areas: custom content (31.2%), gameplay (47.7%), and reblogs (40.2). In addition to those that post custom content, sims and lots weigh in at 27.6% and 21.1% each, while a sizable 30.7% of simmers post stories. Factoring in the 36.7% of participants who consider themselves lurkers and the assorted other simmers who post headcanons, tutorials, or other content, The Sims community on Tumblr is very diverse in what it has to offer a player. To those lurkers: don’t be shy; we don’t bite.
The content that most simmers follow other blogs to see is storytelling, with 87% of participants listing that as their main interest. In a very close second, 86.5% simmers voted that they follow blogs that post custom content. Many players, many being 77.5% also choose to follow other players who post gameplay or information related to the history and or storylines related to the game.
Out of the participants, 75.9% have a specifically The Sims-themed blog. Of those individuals, 46.5% run one blog, 21.2% run two, and 32.3% run three or more, though only 24.% of those users run more than one The Sims-themed blog.
Outside of Tumblr, there were several recurring sites that simmers use to connect with each other and to find content and stories. The most recurring answer was, of course, Mod the Sims, with Garden of Shadows being mentioned almost as frequently. LiveJournal also remains a long term favorite, with several participants directly mentioning Strange Tomato and Skell’s stories. Other favorites include: Leefish, Plumbob Keep, Discord, Reddit, Simscave, and other sites, most of which are considered “dead” or inactive.
When it comes to gameplay, most simmers prefer a more challenging game with a mix of free will and micromanaging, and the general consensus is that “whatever is going to happen is going to happen” in gameplay as opposed to playing based on wants or with a story in mind. As for which kinds of sims are most played, 20.4% of players prefer EAxis premades, 31.3% prefer their own sims, and 48.3% enjoy playing both. The most entertaining answer was by far related to simmers’ favorite mods; almost every single answer had a very familiar acronym: ACR.
For those of you looking to branch out, current trends in challenges include: the legacy challenge (no surprise there), the build a city challenge (BaCC), the apocalypse challenge, the asylum challenge, and the 100 baby challenge among others. When it comes to style of custom content, Maxis Match reigns supreme at 63.2%, with semi-realistic coming in second at 31.8% and realistic at 5%. Those of you who enjoy watching gameplay as much as playing the game might take interest in some of the popular YouTubers among fans of The Sims: Dan and Phil Games, The Sim Supply, Deligracy, Matt Shea, The Jessa Channel, Lazy Game Reviews, Chrillsims 3, Rooster Teeth, and Mara, though it is worth noting that one individual pointed out the unfortunate lack of proper closed captioning on some of these videos.
Now for the non-game related bit: demographics! Over half of the players who participated in the census were females, and the largest age range of players was in the 18-24 demographic. The LGBTQ+ community is well-represented amongst simmers with a whopping 48.2% identifying as part of the community and 32.8% considering themselves allies. Additionally, there are simmers all over the world, with most residing in the US or Europe and some as far as the Middle East, Asia, and South Africa. The Sims Community is indeed a diverse group.
Just for fun, I included a question asking players why they enjoy The Sims. The most overwhelming answer was simply because it is fun and provides an escape. Other common answers elaborate on how the game provides an outlet for creativity, referred to as a “creativity toilet” by one user, and allows players to create their own characters and storylines. Many also stated that the game is nostalgic, with one eloquent simmer stating “It captured my heart as a child and refused to let go.”
I hope you found these results interesting. If so, please let me know. I am open to writing more surveys in the future, provided there’s interest. Thank you again to everyone who participated and to those of you over at the Maxis Shenanigans Discord server for your feedback on the questions.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to visit my ask box. If you are interested, give Plumbob Post a follow, and reblog for anyone else who you think would enjoy this blog. Stay tuned for upcoming posts.
