Foods I think Team Urameshi enjoys 🍜 😋
This post is kinda inspired by/a continuation of this post I made about Hiei so please enjoy my thoughts on the rest of the team’s taste in food!
Yusuke:
If the live action did nothing else, it definitely established that Yusuke’s a ramen guy 😂
He likes both the instant stuff and the traditional kind but the latter is his go to if he can afford it
The instant ones are good but they doo remind him of his childhood when either his mom didn’t have enough money to feed him properly or she was too intoxicated to feed him properly
He also really likes American food
If you get him a good burger, some fries and some soda, he’s your friend for life
He LOVES a good cheesy pizza! The greasier and cheesier the better
Honestly he just LOVES heavy, greasy, heart food
It makes him feel full and weirdly energized
He could eat an entire family bucket of fried chicken by himself, sides and all, and feel pumped up for a good workout 🏋️♂️
He also loves spicy food
His spice tolerance is average but he genuinely likes the burn 🔥
If he sees a spicy challenge, he’s gonna do it just to see how far he can go
He’s currently at a level 7 out of 10 on the 🌶️ meter
He’s also very open to exploring weird food combinations and food from other cultures
This includes food from the demon world
He actually kinda likes food from demon world, he just feels like it could use some more spices
Catch him trying Nutella and bologna because Chu swears that the last time he went to the human world he tried it and it was delicious
…he actually tried it…and he liked it…
9 times out of 10 he’s gonna try and actually like the cursed foods you recommend to him
Kuwabara:
He’s a big sandwich connoisseur 🥪 🧐
He just likes how customizable and portable they are
Honestly he likes meals that are not only balanced, but a comfort to the soul
So things like stews, ramen, soba, curry and pasta dishes
One of his personal favorites things to both eat and make are bento boxes 🍱
He loves making them for his friends and family for a number of reasons
For one, it’s his way of making sure his loved ones are eating enough
Some of his friends come from low income households that don’t always have enough money for food
He made sure that whenever they hung out, they were always well fed
He also learned how to make bentos from his mom and sister
He really enjoyed the cooking lessons and he enjoys the warm fuzzy feelings he gets when he feeds his loved ones
The one food he won’t make or consume is anything spicy
He can’t handle spicy food and doesn’t feel confident enough to properly make a spicy dish
Honestly he can’t eat anything spicier than a jalapeño
But he will try to beat Yusuke and Hiei in spice challenges
…my boy never wins and I don’t know why he thinks he will at this point 😂
Kurama:
Like seemingly everything else about this guy, his palate is very refined
He likes expensive things like lobster, caviar, and liver tartare
Part of why he likes it is Yoko has expensive taste and old habits die hard 😂
In Yoko’s correct opinion, if you’re gonna feed him, you might as well break out the good stuff
The other reason is that a lot of these foods have very strong flavors and he enjoys that every now and then
That by no means mean he hates “Lowe quality” foods
He use to eat McDonald’s as a kid
He liked it
Still eats it from time to time
Not as often as Yusuke does, but like…if friends invite him out for a burger, he’ll eat it
Big enjoyer of fruit, grows it himself actually!
The fresher the better 😌👌
He loves ice cream! 🍨 specially strawberry, vanilla and most fruity sorbets
He actually has a bit of a sweet tooth tbh
Thank his mom for that cuz she’d give her baby boy sweets if he looked at her with his big puppy eyes
Mf didn’t even have to say a word
She’d either buy them or make them for him
Even into his adulthood, he can demolish a tray of cookies and macaroons on his own
The difference is that as a child he didn’t care about his weight or how much sugar he’s eating
As an adult, he absolutely cares because he wants to stay in shape and also his body is technically human so he doesn’t wanna deal with diabetes if he can avoid it
Now he also technically grew up with demon world food when he was Yoko
Demon world food is whatever you can find that’s edible
So usually it’s other demons and edible plants/produce
Some of which does that pretty good
But a lot of it is more for survival than taste
He’s absolutely had to eat a bug demon before and not only did it look gross, it tasted gross!
But it was either that or starve…
And believe me…he did debate it…but food doesn’t always just die for you so…🐛🐛🐛
Boy was he grateful that humans in Japan eat some of the best food he’s ever seen
Human food has also made Kurama appreciate the artistry that can go into food
When he sees the chef went out of their way to make the food look like a literal work of art, he’s always so amazed!
He actually has a hard time eating something if it looks super pretty
Expect him to take a few pictures before he eats btw 🤣
He also has an shockingly high spice tolerance
He can eat authentic Thai food without sweating
But certain peppers will automatically have him on his knees
He can and has grown his own peppers to see if he can make spicier peppers than what’s available
He has, but internet trends make people competitive enough to dethrone him by next week 🤣
Hiei:
Oh this guy ain’t picky
Honestly he’ll eat burnt food if he’s hungry enough
He can also eat 10xs his own body weight
Want proof?
Togashi himself knows this little gremlin is a bottomless pit of angst and hangry
He could easily eat you and 12 of your friends out of house and home and still have the audacity to wonder why ya’ll stressed 🙄
Hello grew up in an environment where food was not guaranteed every day so any food he got, he wasn’t wasting a crumb
Even if he’d been given a giant demon bug leg, best believe he’s eating it
Waste not want not as they say
The only food he’s very sus about is mushrooms 🍄
Especially when talking about demon world mushrooms, a lot of them are very hard to identify wether they’re poisonous or so he tends to avoid them
Unless Kurama is there to tell him it’s poisonous or not
He’ll never admit it out loud but he LOVES human food so much!
It’s so flavorful!
His favorite dishes are meaty rice and noodle dishes
Honestly any dishes with meat are an instant hit with him 🍖
But his all time favorite dishes are the spicy ones
The spicier the better 🌶️🌶️🌶️
His spice tolerance is otherworldly
I’m 99.99% sure he could eat lava and not react
To this day, Yusuke and Kurama are trying to find a dish or pepper spicy enough to make Hiei sweat
They so far have not been successful 😔
Honestly not sure they will succeed any time soon

The Tamataebako is this big plot thread that connects Fishman Island to Whole Cake...to Wano. It’s a very simple if quiet tie. The Crane Wife isn’t the only folklore reference hanging over Kiku’s introduction. What was that Yokozuna’s name again? Urashima! Like that guy in Yu Yu Hakusho who had the tamataebako and got wrecked by Yoko Kurama’s first appearance. Has to be a reference to that, we have a sexy demonic plant man, a spirit fox, and a fey sweetheart with a badass ice-cold side that comes out when needed. I kid, but I’m not going to not see (or comment on) little Rhea’s first blorbo all over this arc.
Urashima Taro is the hero of the folktale the Tamataebako comes from. He has a wondrous undersea adventure, then returns home. Only to find time has passed quicker than he aged while away. Sound familiar? This is not the only way Kiku’s story loves to play with time, but it is cool as hell we have such a big connection hiding in plain sight underneath the most explicit folklore reference in the arc. Not to mention, that month alone with Tsuru still stands as a well of untapped potential from Kiku’s perspective. Like...looking at her whole story ending up in that rough ramshackle village and getting to just be an ordinary young woman a while was probably a big deal. In hindsight she did seem oddly I guess, content? Compared to the rest of the Leftover town residents and all. That’s the angle of present Wano reflecting her past more than the nation’s nostalgia for those years suggests.

This blog will be largely based upon the anime series, at least until I am able to read the manga and, at such point, I will reevaluate and decide if I would like to create an amalgamation from both sources, as well as my own personal headcanons. The fandom needs more aus so Im adding one I just made
Recently bereaved of her childhood and best friend Yusuke, Yukimura Keiko opens the window one evening to admire the sunset. She's surprised to see a flock of furious, angelic birds attacking a humanoid figure-
Who soars upwards with a heave of jagged, dark wings.
When that is thwarted, it somehow ends up closer to Keiko's neighbourhood instead as another attempt to escape. Bewildered, Keiko waves and yells without thinking for it to come here, come inside here!
The figure hesitates for only a moment, and then dashes into the open window, crashing somehow into every little part of what is now formerly Keiko's bedroom.
Keiko doesn't know it yet, but the young demon from hell's name is Yukina, and it's looking for it's brother - a half-demon.
It's being pursued by Heaven in the hope to collect a valuable hostage; indeed, the ward of a demon lord (Rui) would have merit when they seek demonic allies against the demon king to kill him. An alleged Eater of Seraphim would be a good ally indeed.
Additional notes because I made them tags @ first and then they got so long I felt bad for whoever might read them:
Fire and shadow powers for yukina bc im a little bored w the ice magic and wanna experiment w that too
Keiko becoming a witch to help protect Yukina better by making a contract w it would also be a very cute and major part of the premise
Yukina knowing abt witches in theory and having only met a few of them would also be cause for shenanigans - like knowing what a pharmacist is and does but having little idea abt what it entails aside from "wonderful person who is very patient while I'm fumbling to get my ID out for them so they may give me my prescription and/or inform me of how much that'll cost"
"Can you be a pharmacist?" "Sure, how hard can that be?" Very hard but very funny to watch from a distance and after the next big problem is over.
Yukina enrols into Sarayashiki and it wears the boy's uniform and we have an entire episode dedicated to being able to choose your uniform regardless of the gender society is putting on you. Akashi and Iwamoto are ofc the villains here. Keiko rationalises that Yukina's a demon, ofc it wouldnt have the genders humans have; she has no idea Yukina has single-handedly inspired several people to transition and experiment.
Hell and earth differences. Yukina keeps using all the hot water and one time it and Keiko have to try to fix the bathroom, that's how hot Yukina ran the water.
Home sickness! Yukina having an arc of deciding it'll actively look for its brother!
Backstory episode... Yukina actually being chased out of hell and escaping to earth.
Keiko at an early point: You can't tempt me to do bad things to people! Not even if I think they deserve it! I mean it! not even a thumb-tack in their food!! Yukina: Why would you do that, that sounds so mean. Keiko: (rlly wants to have an excuse to do that)

“Eater of Seraphim” being Rui who ate Hina's heart as she was dying to gain enough power to fight off other demons or invading angels bc she needs that and Hina told her to
Hina being a seraph bc Im not immune to the Your Wings and Mine webtoon and I wanna cry when I hear her name or see it written out
Kurama is half demon half human. Don't think he was Yoko Kurama in another life here(??), I think in this case this is a case of him being possessed by a demon and dealing w the fact that the demon doesn't seem to realise it will die no matter if Kurama tries to feed it or not. It doesn't know it's a demonic ghost, which is something that shouldn't exist.
very embarrassed when he realises these two idiots are babies in the matters of witchhood and contract-making, which is embarrassing when one of them is literally from hell and the ward of a demon lord whose position is only "lesser" bc she doesn't desire anymore land than what is sufficient to protect her child(ren). hiei was sent to earth to protect him & he has no idea hes not human. for maximum funsies he's at catholic school & hes nicknamed a "demon". We won't meet him till episode 60 (out of 75 and then a movie)

Yeah yeah yeah Botan botany witch playing heaven and hell as a freelance witch and not thinking about how she's contributing to the conflict, "I'm just trying to make buck!" (she's doing just fine and could be a witch on commission working a different job part/full time).
Botan clocking Yukina as a demon and the Rogue Demon Ward Who's Escaped to Earth immediately when it and their classmates are there after school or for a school outing and kidnapping it. Keiko saves it and turns Botan into a toad. Botan becomes the blackmailed mentor figure.
Gasp. Witch exams. Bc Keiko needs to do them to become certified bc its when someone uncertified calls a witch a witch that a witch turns into a toad... it was only bc Keiko has a contract already that Botan was lucky enough to only be turned toad SOMETIMES.
shizuru a witch or a priest... Priest on monday-wednesdays, witch thursdays-sundays yeah thats funny we keep that. It's the 90s anime shenanigans that will leave a viewer feeling "If this was a man and a woman, Botan and Shizuru definitely would look like Duck trying desperately to hide she turns into a duck sometimes and Fakir knowing this and fucking with her at every turn anyways."
No, Shizuru priest but her parents are witches. Kuwa could be a priest but is working on if that's the path he wants.

I've tried to post this like 4 times now and Tumblr keeps eating it, so heres hoping this one makes it through!
Hmmm, well, I don't see any of them as disliking or not being attracted to someone because of the persons weight if they cared enough about them to date them in the first place. So I'm gonna separate the characters into three different categories of what they like most about having a plus size s/o!
Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei, Rando, Jin, Chu, Shishiwakamaru, Bui, Sniper, and Mukuro all really enjoy the difference in body type, a and love the feel of your soft curves pressing against their hard muscles when going to pound town ;)
Jin especially loves the feel of thick thighs wrapping around his head when he's going down on you
Kurama, Keiko, Yukina, Touya, Juri, Itsuki, Yomi, and Kuwabara(yes, he's in both!) don't really care either way about weight, because they're most attracted to you as a person. How could they not adore the physical form that houses the soul they cherish?
Botan, Koenma, Shizuru, Koto, Suzuka, Mitarai, Sensui, and Raizen I headcanon to all prefer someone with a bit more meat on their bones, they just find it more physically attractive for their partner to be heavier set than they are

Sure thing, and I hope you enjoy!
Kurama
The both of you would go out a couple of times a week. Since you're still new to the human world, there's some things you're still unaware of. It's during these times that he'll show you what people do for fun.
He wouldn't want to lose you. Since he's lost Kuronue in the past as Yoko, he's not gonna go through that again. You're the other person in his life that means a lot to him along with his mother.
Kurama would teach you how to defend yourself. There are people who would kidnap you if they found out what you were and would hold you hostage like what had happened to Yukina. He's aware of this and wants to make sure you're prepared to defend yourself.
Kurama would basically be the biggest gentleman ever. From compliments, being courteous, and giving small kisses, he's like the perfect husband. There's never a day where he doesn't make you feel special.
Yoko
With how tall he is, he'll think you're the most adorable thing ever. Compared to him height wise, you're tiny. Expect a few short jokes here and there from him. As amusing as it is to him, he'd also treat you delicately like a porcelain doll.
Yoko would still be amazed with your abilities. Here you were with the ability to turn your tears into crystals. He's known this since day one, but it still doesn't fail to amaze him.
When he comes back from one of his missions, he'll always bring a present. It's usually a rare treasure or a jewel. Of course, it doesn't compare to you he tells you.
He knows his profession is a dangerous one. If you're hurt or kidnapped by an enemy, then they better be prepared to face the consequences. He would do anything to protect you and keep you safe.

part twelve to clothes
Kuwabara catches the tail end of Kurama’s explanation for Hiei’s...condition.
“Basically, his vocal cords can refract light.”
“Uh-huh.” Botan dangles a piece of cinnamon candy in front of Hiei’s stubbornly sealed mouth, a sweet bribe for a demonstration. “But where do they get the light to make rainbows in the first place?”
The candy starts glowing under Hiei’s hot glare. Botan cries out, dropping the candy and blowing her fingers. Eikichi emerges from her hiding spot under the table to chase the fallen candy across the faux sheepskin rug in the living room.
Kuwabara winces. Big mistake. Shizuru, normally content to let shenanigans run their course, creeps up behind Hiei and snares him in a chokehold. He gasps, gagging forth a beautiful rainbow--Kuwabara’s imagination supplies the soundtrack of angels singing.
Botan sticks her tongue out at Hiei, her honor avenged by her girlfriend.
“The spell probably takes advantage of the vestigial sac behind Hiei’s lungs,” Kurama muses.
The what behind Hiei’s where now? “Are you saying Hiei’s ancestors used to breathe fire?”
Kurama nods. “Fire, ice, poison, electricity--take your pick. Personally, I had sweat glands removed from my hands and feet when I was Yoko. They’re great for marking territory--not so great for stealing without leaving evidence behind.”
Hiei’s mouth clicks shut to deprive everyone of further rainbows. He swings his elbow around to dislodge Shizuru. He misses by a mile because she’s the most powerful psychic in the country and because Hiei would never actually hurt her. Hiei flattens his mouth, focusing on the bubble Shizuru steadily blows in his face. She dumps a glass of water on his head before the gum can heat up a single degree.
Botan hands Hiei a towel from the linen closet to signal a ceasefire.
He takes the checkered print cloth and dries his hair. Apparently, Hiei’s got some control over the spell: three rainbows spill out of his mouth, twirling together in hills that leap across the width of the house. Shizuru and Botan cheer and applaud, delighted with the light show. Hiei bows, a one-demon act soaking up the audience’s appreciation before the curtain falls.
Kuwabara and Kurama clap, too. “How long will this last?”
“Oh, forever,” Kurama says. “It doesn’t go away until the antidote is digested.”
Hiei gestures at Shizuru for something to write with. He jabs a finger in Botan’s direction until she produces another piece of cinnamon candy from her pocket. The finger doesn’t retreat. She gives him the whole bag with a slight sniff.
It takes a minute for Kuwabara to recognize the grocery list Hiei shoves under his nose. “Hey, we have all this stuff at home.”
The triple eye roll is uncalled for. Hiei grabs Kuwabara’s wrist and drags him to the door, waving goodbye to Shizuru, Botan, and Kurama.
Kuwabara mouths to Botan as he passes by, “I’ll buy you another bag of candy.”
Botan mimes clicking a camera. Of course, she’d prefer blackmail instead.

Hiei marches Kuwabara all the way to the apartment.
“This shop has an incredible mocha.” Not that Hiei is willing to enjoy one publicly at this particular moment. “Oh, and that place has really good bagels! You want one? My treat.”
It’s a good thing Hiei is wearing a shirt so Kuwabara can fully appreciate the menace on his face.
Kuwabara smothers a laugh. Someone is impatient to remove a unicorn’s curse. He’d feel sorry for Hiei if he hadn’t insulted the unicorn’s mane, which is literally the only thing Koenma said not to do.
Hiei keeps a firm hand on Kuwabara and spitefully plucks an ad off of a street lamp with the other. Kuwabara watches it sail into the trashcan. The ad is the telltale peach color the kids encroaching on Yusuke’s ramen cart use on all of their posters.
He offers to buy Hiei snacks right up until they breeze through the building lobby to the elevators. His wallet will pay for this in the future, he just knows it.
Kuwabara fishes one-handed in his pockets for his key. It’s not until he opens the door and Hiei’s eyes zero in on the shelves that Kuwabara realizes Hiei hasn’t let go of his hand the entire trip home.
He misses it immediately when Hiei drops his grip in favor of inspecting Kuwabara’s DIY prowess.
Eyebrow preaches from a thought bubble above his head. “If he doesn’t mention marriage, dump him.”
Hiei’s not fit to mention anything at the moment. He takes off his boots and neatly lines them up by the front door, then hops on the counter with all the grace of a gymnast. The step ladder is bypassed entirely.
He shouldn’t feel this nervous. “Do you like it?”
Hiei points at the shelves, then slowly brings his finger just above his own heart.
“Yeah,” Kuwabara says. “They’re for you.”
The strength of the screws and the discounted stud finder is promptly tested as Hiei descends on the jars. He empties the shelves and begins a frankly terrifying organizational process that Kuwabara can’t make immediate sense of, so Kuwabara steps away and starts working on the antidote.
He rummages through the drawer beneath the oven and grabs a steel pot that he bought for three bucks at the charity shop next to his old university for the express purpose of potion-making. The grocery list says to boil three cups of water.
Does he need to be precise? Kuwabara usually eyeballs stuff when he’s cooking, but magic is not his sister’s katsudon. Well, it is, but not this kind of magic.
Hiei rattles the candy bag for his attention. Kuwabara holds out his palm. “Thanks.” The cinnamon is fresh and sweet on his tongue. “Can you pass me the uh--hm.” How the fuck is this ingredient pronounced? He’s only ever read the word. “The mm...nur...driv...can you pass me the jar next to your foot, please?”
Kuwabara reads the label to make sure the contents won’t turn his brain into a flock of birds or anything. He opens the top and sniffs. The dried leaves are fragrant and earthy, the forest after a night’s hard rain.
Hiei taps his shoulder. He rotates a closed fist on the flat of his hand.
“Grind it up. Gotcha.”
Kuwabara likes how domestic antidote brewing is. Hiei hands him the ingredients with additional instructions if necessary, sharing cinnamon candy while he arranges the shelves to his liking. The apartment has never felt more like home.
From the safety of the thought bubble, Eyebrow observes, “Maybe he won’t ask because you already are married.”
