I meant to do some greenhouse cleaning and tidying today because my mum is coming to visit and I don't want to be judged. It involved finally bringing myself to say goodbye to my moribund basil plants (by turning them into pesto) among other things—but my plans were derailed when I took down one of the aquaponics towers and heard a big splash. I thought I'd disturbed a fish that was napping amid the plant roots in the water, but no.... I looked into the fish tank and saw a big frog indignantly swimming away.
I went to get a little dip net and spent a solid half hour trying to fish the frog out—she swam so fast! And was really determined to stay in the fish tank, even when I told her I would put her outside somewhere watery and nice where she could meet frog friends. But I did catch her in the end.
Tumblr media
I'd never seen a completely black frog before! When I googled for more info, all I found were photos of the (amazing) African rain frog, which one website compared to an angry avocado.
Tumblr media
Back to my tank squatter—she was delicately placed on the edge of the barrel that collects spring water in the pasture and invited to start a new life here, and she morosely sat for quite a while, mulling over her options.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not even lying to you, frog: I found a beautiful toad in the pasture some time ago... I'm moving you from a place of existential alienation (lone frog in fish tank) to a hot spot of batracian life.
Tumblr media
I tried to film the moment when the frog accepted her fate and gracefully jumped into the barrel but of course I started filming just a second too late and she refused to come back for a second take. In the meantime, every pasture dweller had noticed that something interesting was happening, and converged towards me. When they found my hands and pockets empty of snacks their reactions ranged from sharp betrayal to distant melancholy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pirlouit looked so sad in the rain staring at the horizon, pondering the inherent unfairness of life, I ended up letting him sniff the dip net, like, did you actually WANT to eat a frog?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know, but this one was too large for you.
Poldine was the only one who didn't resent me for visiting them with a frog and no snacks; she was just happy for the opportunity to kiss someone's cheek.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I went home and looked at my frog pictures I realised there was an apple floating in the barrel ! which I hadn't seen since I was too focused on the frog. The apple tree has shed nearly all of its fruit by now, it must be one of the last apples of the year... And since entering the pasture with a poor slimy excuse for a snack in my dip net had clearly made a dent in my approval ratings, I decided to go back and offer llamas & donkey the apple along with some vegetable peelings.
Pandolf was intrigued when I fished an apple out of the barrel; he sat down in front of me the way he does to signal that he is a good dog and possibly deserving of good things; but UNLIKE SOME he wasn't disappointed with me when he realised the thing I was holding wasn't meant for him because the world doesn't revolve around him.
Tumblr media
.... approval ratings skyrocketing 📈
Tumblr media
Look at Pirlouit in the background, startled and horrified as he realises he left the scene to soon!
Look at him leaving a cloud of dust behind him as he rushes towards us!
Tumblr media
Don't worry Pirou, I saved you a whole half courgette <3 You can drop the tragic misunderstood persecuted look now.

business/economics articles will try to equate the cost of something in units like "cold brews" and "avocado toasts" to tell you that holding off on those "daily" little luxury items for a whole month could save you valuable money you could use for more responsible things. but.... I don't think the class that needs genuine economic help/advice is the same class that's buying avacado toasts and cold brews and eating at your local cafe every day. I don't eat at cafes more than twice a month usually. for someone like me, yeah that's stupid expensive to do every day. but even then, how much does that save me? couple hundred dollars a month? and what is a couple hundred dollars a month good for? really not much else other than other/more food.
so it's immensely insulting and out of touch when these articles tell people that they're poor for eating their daily luxury foods when the poor people aren't the ones eating luxuriously in the first place, and the amount saved from holding off on these niceties is too insignificant to drastically change your economic standing anyways.
yeah, I bet I would have a lot more money if I just didn't eat? (which now some of these articles are trying to convince people to just skip meals entirely) but also I'd have a lot more money if wages reflected the cost of living and the cost of living wasn't needlessly inflated because people with more money than they can even spend on avacado toasts or cold brews just wanted to see a number go up.

Pffft what if they tried to eat an avocado and got really sick and that's how Splinter realized that turtles have special dietary needs. (BTW a way around the whole tomato thing could be that they use Alfredo sauce or a marinade without a tomato base instead of tomato based pizza sauce. My niece has CVS and because of it she couldn't have red sauced pizza for a good chunk of her childhood and has to have an acid pull because the sauce would cause her stomache issues but she'd eat Alfredo sauce just fine)
I know this was probably meant as them trying an avocado as children and getting sick. But all i can see is one of them as a dum dum teen reading that turtles can't eat avocados and immediately going "I must try this!" and getting sick to the scolding of their siblings lol (honestly, probably Leo eats it and Donnie's egging him on for science reasons. Raph and Mikey are panicking in the background once they find out what those two idiots are up to)
And yeah, they could definitely just switch out the sauce if they needed to but i think i'll at least let them keep their tomatoes this time around lol. They still have to avoid those avocados tho, and try not to eat random plants out of people's gardens (i'd say that isn't hard, but they're four teenagers who have done stupider stuff for less.)
Thank you!

141. “Tell me what you want.”
Thank you so much for the prompt! Here is a little Lawrusso fill for it :-)
*
Daniel had never expected living with Johnny to be a life of quiet domesticity. Yet, it almost came as a surprise when he found that they still had to do all the everyday mundane things that people did, like trips to the grocery store.
But with Johnny things were never mundane. They were a constant negotiation, like bargaining with a toddler who wouldn't eat anything other than fish sticks. Except Johnny wouldn't even eat fish sticks...
“There we go,” Daniel said, a beaming smile on his face as he placed the plate on the table in front of Johnny. “Lobster Risotto with no green stuff.”
Johnny eyed the plate, then said, “I'm not eating that, man. I not touching anything that lives in the ocean.”
“What?” Daniel asked, looking down at the delicious plate of food that he'd lovingly prepared.
“Lobsters are like the Scabies of the sea, and they eat shit,” he said. “C'mon, LaRusso, I thought you were smart. Everyone knows that.”
“They don't eat shit,” Daniel said.
“Lobsters roam around in the ocean, which is where all the whales and fish are,” Johnny said seriously. “They can't get out of the water, so they literally live in their own toilet, and there are a lot of fish in the sea.”
“You really believe that?” Daniel asked.
“Have you ever seen a Shark in a bathroom?” Johnny asked, raising an eyebrow.
Daniel sat down at the table, his head in his hands. There was no arguing with that.
*
“Do I really have to go?” Johnny asked, his voice almost whiny.
Daniel was used to it now and he knew the rules of this game.
Johnny got a kick out of being annoying. There was an almost childlike glee in him every time he got a rise out of Daniel, so Daniel would play along and pretend to be annoyed, even though he secretly found Johnny's antics amusing.
“Yeah, well, if you're good I'll take you to In-N-Out burger after we finish shopping,” Daniel said with a grin.
“Mehhh...” Johnny said, trying to act indifferent, even though Daniel knew he loved their little trip out after the store. “Maybe I'd prefer a beer.”
“Well, it's a good job I already have a six pack of Banquet sitting in the trunk of my car just waiting for when we get back,” Daniel said.
“You do?” Johnny asked, perking up like a dog hearing a bag of chips being opened.
*
Daniel loved walking round Whole Foods with Johnny, and how even though they'd been coming every Saturday morning for the last three months Johnny still couldn't pronounce Quinoa.
“Quinn... Quinn.. oh-A,” Johnny would say every single week, and every week Daniel would correct him.
Shopping with Johnny was like shopping with a child who was high on sugar. He touched everything, running his hands over fresh fruit and vegetables, seemingly relishing the texture of Avocado skin, even though he'd never eat one.
“Groats,” Johnny said, as he picked up a packet. “That's a funny word. What is it? We should get some.”
“It's just porridge, but healthier,” Daniel replied.
“Shit no,” Johnny said, dropping the bag back on the shelf. “Like eating paste.”
“Look with your eyes, not with your hands,” Daniel said, as Johnny picked up a box of Millet.
“Yeah, but what is it?” he asked, as he shook the box. “Looks like bird seed.”
“It's not bird seed,” Daniel snapped, plucking the box out of his hands. “It's a cooking ingredient. You make... You make... Actually I don't know what the hell you make with that. Maybe it is bird seed and someone put it back in the wrong aisle.”
“Holy shit, LaRusso,” Johnny said, as he wandered into the Bakery section, practically drooling. “Look at the size of these cinnamon buns.”
“You want some?” Daniel asked holding them up, keeping his thumb over the vegan symbol on the packaging.
“Hell yeah,” Johnny replied, nodding.
“Alright then,” Daniel said, as he lowered them into the trolley. “You know, I read an article this week about Spelt bread, and I'd really like to try some. I wonder if they have any.”
“B-r-e-a-d,” Johnny supplied, usefully. “That's how it's spelled.”
“Ha,” Daniel replied sarcastically. “I'm surprised you actually got that right.”
“Hey, knock it off, asshole,” Johnny said, pushing him playfully in the shoulder. “You're ruining shopping day for me.”
Daniel let out a huff of laughter, then said, “Oh, Asparagus! We need that.”
As Daniel picked out a nice a bunch, he heard a sound behind him, like someone being sick.
“Blergghhhhh,” Johnny said, as he mimed sticking his finger down his throat.
“When we're in the meat section remind me to get some really good steaks to go with it,” Daniel said with a smile.
“You're doing steaks?” Johnny asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah,” Daniel replied, as he picked up a pack of rainbow carrots, knowing Johnny would eat them, simply because of the mismatching colours.
“OK, cool,” Johnny replied.
“And we need these,” Daniel said, as he picked up a pack of multicoloured baby tomatoes.
It really was like feeding a toddler where Johnny was concerned. He wouldn't eat “green stuff” but he would eat vegetables if they were brightly coloured, or disguised. He could make an all meat pasta sauce, but grate carrots into it, and Johnny would wolf it down without complaint.
“Cottage Cheese,” Daniel said, reaching for a tub.
“Hey, you know what this reminds me of?” Johnny asked, as he reached out and touched all the packs.
“What?” Daniel asked, as he placed the tub in the cart.
“That episode of Dr. Pimple Popper we saw the other day,” Johnny replied.
“Andddd no Cottage Cheese,” Daniel said, putting it back on the shelf.
They moved round the store, and Daniel picked up some herbs. “We need some Dill.”
Johnny chuckled behind him, then quietly said, “You said Dill.”
“And we need Virgin Olive Oil,” Daniel said, as he picked up a bottle.
“Hehehehe,” Johnny sniggered. “Virgin.”
“Pork,” Daniel said. “Maybe we should have pork chops tonight when Sam and Anthony come over.”
“Pork,” Johnny repeated, letting out a soft laugh. “Yeah, we should pork before your kids come over.”
“Oh and we definitely need some Sweet Italian Sausage,” Daniel said, turning to grin at Johnny.
“OK, that's enough,” Johnny said. “We should go home now.”
*
They stopped off at the In-N-Out Burger on Ventura and both wolfed down animal style burgers, wiping the sauce off their chins with serviettes as they ate. It was their tradition now. Grocery shopping followed by food, then go home and fool around before heading to the Dojo for class.
After they unpacked the car, Daniel put all the groceries away, humming as he gave the counter a wipe over with a cloth.
“Hey,” Johnny said, crowding into Daniel's space, planting his hands either side of Daniel on the counter top, and jamming his nose into the back of his neck.
“Hey to you too,” Daniel said, as he turned around, trapped in the warm, tight space of Johnny's arms.
“We've only got an hour before class,” Johnny said, as he leaned forward and planted a kiss behind Daniel's ear.
“Yeah, it's not a lot of time,” Daniel said, then he let out a groan as Johnny dragged his tongue across his collarbone.
“We better get to it fast,” Johnny said.
Daniel reached up, wrapping his arms around Johnny's neck, and whispered, “Tell me what you want.”
“You know what I want,” Johnny said back, his voice husky.
“I do?” Daniel asked.
“Yeah,” Johnny said with a grin. “Where's that six pack of Banquet you promised me, huh?”

Another update, hopefully less bleak than the last one.
So on Wednesday I broke down in front of my chiropractor telling him what's going on with me. I apologized for breaking down and he said it's okay, he knows that blood sugar dropping can make a person very emotional. He was surprised to hear that I'd had a green smoothie consisting of whey protein powder, a cup of mixed greens, a ripe banana, and a cup of oat milk immediately before coming to the appointment and not even an hour later I already felt famished like I hadn't had anything all day, but he suggested that getting more fats in my diet might help me hold onto my food longer and keep my blood sugar at a reasonable level longer, so I should be consuming more butter, nut butters, avocado, coconut oil, etc. Putting peanut butter or avocado in my green smoothies, having avocado on whole grain toast like the millennial I am, and I think I'll go back to the special way I was making coffee a while back that involved heavy cream and MCT oil powder. I'll post how I do that in a separate post. I also mentioned to him that I was seriously considering purchasing liver and bones from the butcher shop to get more protein and iron in my system, and he approved of that idea as well.
After my husband picked me up from my appointment, we got food from our favorite local Chinese restaurant, and the orange chicken, fried rice, egg roll, and crab rangoon actually lasted longer in my system and kept me stable longer than anything else I'd had in the last week or two. Lots of fat in all that Chinese food. It was great. The chef seemed to have gotten a little enthusiastic with the spiciness of the orange chicken but I definitely wasn't complaining.
The next day I made a green smoothie and added a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter and that did help it to stay in my system a little longer, but it didn't have enough sugar since I only had half a banana to put in it.
So I'm thinking when we go grocery shopping this weekend, I'll get extra bananas, maybe apples, avocados, some whole grain bread, two jars of peanut butter, and heavy cream along with our usual items. And when we go to the butcher shop I'll see how much liver costs, I already know bones are sold at a reasonable price, and I'll ask the butcher if he can recommend how best to cook the liver, and if I can put it in the slow cooker.
I did more googling and found that low blood sugar isn't uncommon in people who have fibromyalgia, so I'll send my rheumatologist a message and ask about that.
Things are looking less hopeless, and it looks like I have some solutions almost within reach. Just have to make the grocery trip tomorrow.
Right now I feel my blood sugar dropping, so I think I'll go try to make something to eat. I had a bowl of greens loaded with butter, garlic, and salt pork earlier and it was very good and lasted a while but now I need more food. Might cook some more greens and see if I can make some mashed potatoes as well because I might need carbs. Might even cook the rest of the bacon we got from the butcher shop last week since I'm sure it needs to be cooked asap. Hopefully I can stand up long enough to cook. I'm in a lot of pain rn that's going to make being on my feet difficult.
Wish me luck, and stay determined.
Also @ the person who replied to my last update: thank you so much for your kind words. I needed that. ❤️❤️❤️

Completos are a Chilean variant of the hot dog, one of many variants in Latam. The most common form you'll see in the streets or small restaurants (don't eat a completo for 5 dollars, you're getting scammed.) is the Italiano, named after the colors of Italy's flag.
The Italiano is comprised of a bun, a sausage which can be boiled or fried, optionally chucrut (sauerkraut, finely chopped lactofermented cabagge), diced tomatoes, mashed avocado, mayonaise, ketchup and finally, mustard. Of course, you can leave out any ingredients you don't like, but that's the blueprint.
Now, why the hell am I giving you this piece of mildly interesting Chilean trivia?
🥹
I put this under a read more because it's so cringe... (I'm literally not doing anything bad) (Still embarassed) (Still gonna share because I liked it)
Right now I'm waiting for my 9PM bus (at 7PM lol) (edit after writing: 8PM! jeez) but even before that, like an hour ago, I rushed to the nearest restaurant, and as always, the completo is a saviour because it was the cheapest thing I could get.
Gosh I was really hungry or it was really really good. Great, even. The mayo was homemade, too!
I was silent while eating and this thought popped into my head, "Shaplin would love to eat a completo." (SHAPLIN JUMPSCARE)
I really love her and if I tried to deny it I'd look even more deranged, lmao.
Thinking of that made me remember all the party nights eating and making 'em, and aaah... it's a really sweet drawing idea.
Right now I imagine my sona and Shaplin having the kitchen be an absolute mess, because I could have said "Yo. We should make some of these things I eat back home" and Shaplin foolishly agreed, knowing she can't even make Mac and Cheese... plus even if the food I cook is good, it's at the expense of clean spaces hehe 😔
Then, after everything is made (and the kitchen has been cleaned before Swatch could have an aneurysm looking at the mess), setting up the table for so many Swatchlings sounds funny, but at the same time kind of cute! They're a big family <3
Aside from the completos the arrangement I assume would be the same as one where people eat hot dogs (if you even do?! I have no idea!!), Snacks and sauces, sodas... Monster. (I'm normal about that energy drink leave me olone!!! /j)
Eating and making conversation, joking around as it's usual. It warms my heart to think about that.
Now it's less about the food and more about the people you've made it for.
I believe cooking for and having something to eat with someone is a great way of expressing affection, so these ideas are. Yeah. They're heartwarming, as I've said before 🥹
After eating? Oh, I really love playing videogames. I love Mario Party so you bet I put that before anyone else could even think of the console WKEJWKKEJW
Remembering Francis and Queen it's really funny to me, believing Shaplin would pick Princess Peach LMFAO. I of course, will always go with my boy Luigi >:)
(On that note, Colette would pick Rosalina! Her reason is "She looks like a very nice lady!!" while mine is that because her color is Cosmic Latte and Rosalina's whole character revolves around space, it only makes sense, don't you think?)
...Anyway, at this point I'm only rambling! Which isn't bad, not at all, but there's the point where I'll start making 0 sense!
I'm sorry for being SOOO normal about that bird. It will happen again 😔🙏

Finding Sunlight: chptr 6.
Just before I could make contact with the dirt, I was plunged upright in my bed. I groaned and clutched my throbbing head, still disoriented from the wind.
It was dark outside, and my alarm clock read "5:30"
I forced myself to my feet after a few minutes of trying to sleep again, shivering and pulling on an old gray hoodie I had discarded on my floor.
I've had this thing for my whole life, it was a hand-me-down from Chris. It’s worn and ripped, but it’s my favorite. It smelled like the laundry room’s dryer sheets, crisp and strong. I flipped on the hood and checked the weather.
Unpredictable, as usual for late August around here. I walked into the kitchen, and made it my life's mission to do something good for myself.
There wasn't much to work with. A mostly empty stale box of cereal, some bread, butter, leftover takeout. I took some bread out of the plastic baggie, and popped it in my toaster.
While it slowly crisped up under the sweltering heat of relentless metal coils, I downloaded the food delivery app of my local supermarket. I got eggs, ground beef, some fresh fruit, an avocado, and other stuff. Foods that normal people eat.
“As if I could be normal,” I remarked to myself.
I prepared my buttered toast, truly the breakfast of kings, and sat down. Opening my work laptop, I noticed my reflection in the black. For once, I didn’t look miserable.
My hair was messy, and I combed my hands through it carefully until it was mostly de-knotted, checked again on the tinted screen, and pressed the power button.
The scenic wallpaper of the login screen greeted me merrily. “Welcome, Charlie!”
The clack of the keys as I typed in my password was a therapeutic sound, and seeing my commission page was even nicer.
I had a few messages, fans of my favorite shows asking if writing commissions were back open. I don’t exactly recall when more and more people started paying me to write things for them, but I wasn’t complaining.
I smiled, and started a new post.
“Opening up commissions again! message me if you have any requests!”
I bit into my toast with all of the grace of a starving lion devouring a gazelle carcass. It was alright, quite burnt, with the butter spread unevenly, with half-melted chunks still sitting on the bread.
I heard the soft “ping!” of the messaging program on my commission page.
Already? I opened my inbox, to see a familiar profile. Her name was Lisa, or ‘kitty_girl_lisa” online. Of course, how didn’t I see it coming?
Lisa was one of my best customers, from day 1, mostly because I’ll write anything for enough money. An Assassin princess? I’ve done it. A steamy sex piece about an ogre and a human woman? Unfortunately, it exists.
Today was a relatively normal request, no orge sex, no medieval princess spy fiction.
<Chaplin! You’re back online!> Lisa wrote.
I sent a thumbs-up emoji and responded.
<yes! Can I interest you in being my first customer?>
She sent me a payment almost immediately, for 60$. It was an exorbitant amount for what she had asked for, and more than I’d ever charged her. She requested a simple fluff piece, nothing much. I'd refunded the payment at first, saying I couldn't possibly accept that much, but she sent it back without hesitation.
I nodded to myself, and messaged back and forth for a bit. I told her that I appreciated the payment, and I'd have it done by the end of the week.
As I was overthinking the plot framework of a short story, as is my routine, I thought to myself. In a way, writing gave me some sort of power back.
For the last few months, I'd been using corrupted money to pay for rent and shitty takeout.
It was drug money, Ten thousand dollars.
I found my father's stash in a dingy little shoebox in his closet a few months ago, while I was helping my mom and Chris clean out his side of my parents’ room.
I should've turned in the cash when I found it, but I was desperate, and without it I wouldn't be able to pay rent.
This would be the first money I'd actually made in 6 months.
Hopefully soon, I wouldn't need to rely on my long-dead father to support me financially.
I smiled. For the first time in so long, I actually genuinely smiled.
...And then my phone buzzed. It was my friend Maxie, sending a photo to our friend group.
She was in Mexico with her family, grinning brightly with two people who looked similar to her. With hesitance, I opened my messages.
Seeing the group chat sent guilt deep into my core.
A countless amount of missed messages, all now marked that I've read them.
I couldn’t respond. not right now, not to everyone.
Instead, I went to my contacts, and called my closest childhood friend. Someone I knew would still care for me, Cai.
They picked up after the first ring.
“Charlie! Is that really you?” their voice rang through my ears like a gorgeous bell.
“Yeah” I responded. “Sorry- for not calling more often.”
“You don't need to apologize, Charls. You’ve been through enough shit.” they said this with a genuine, caring tone.
I half-smiled on the other side of the phone. “What are you doing today?”
Beep. they had hung up.
I frowned, worried. Did I mess up? I stood there, concerned, until my phone buzzed. It was Cai.
“Get dressed. I’ll be over in 10 minutes.”
In a matter of what felt like seconds, my intercom buzzed, alerting me that Cai was at the front entrance. I let them in, my foot tapping at a rapid pace. There was a knock at my apartment’s door, and I opened it to a beaming face.
Cai was a firecracker if I'd ever seen one. They were about 6 inches shorter than me, and much more energetic. Their black hair was pulled into pigtails, accessorized with mismatched colorful scrunchies. They were dressed in overalls covered in paint splotches. They carried a similarly colorful satchel bag at their side.
They jumped at me almost immediately, pulling me into a hug.
“Charls! It’s been forever, dumbass! Where have you been?”
I just grinned. We both knew where I'd been, but with Cai, it didn't matter. With them, we were both still teenagers, and I had been absent from school for a week.
“Just feeling like shit, I guess.”
Cai tugged on my arm and practically dragged me out of my apartment.
“Where the hell are we going?” I laughed as Cai briskly led me outside.
They paused, looked back at me, and smiled.
“To see an old friend!”

Trying to sort out a list of foods/ingredients I dislike so I can try to figure out a way of eating healthy that would actually work for me. Feedback welcomed!
* pumpkin/zucchini/other squash
* chili peppers
* mint, basil and dill
* olives
* cooked bell peppers (raw ones are okay)
* hard boiled egg
* whole tomatoes (I can eat tomatoes when they're mixed in with other things, but not if I'm getting a bite that just consists of tomato)
* most nuts
* yoghurt
* avocado
* big pieces of meat (small pieces of meat, or meat mixed with other things, are fine, but I can't make it through a T-bone steak)
* feta cheese
* most beans (green beans are good) - I can handle them in small quantities, but I hate the texture of beans in large doses
* mushrooms - I've been getting a lot better about eating mushrooms, but I still feel a bit apprehensive about them
* passionfruit and kiwi fruit
I also generally dislike salsas, chutneys etc., although sometimes I don't hate them if they're hidden in my food.
I think in general, I don't like "slimy" textures. I also don't like foods that are astringent, or foods that have too much of a "grainy" texture, like beans. Most of these foods are things that I'll eat if they're put in front of me, but if I make them when I'm by myself and have no social pressure to keep me accountable, I'll probably throw them out and just get takeaway. Especially if I'm craving carbs, salt and sugar, which I pretty much always am.
I think there definitely is something disordered about my eating habits. I eat junk food pretty much constantly as a coping mechanism, and I'm finding it really difficult to stop even though I am, at this point, obese. It's not good for my self esteem to be like this, and I don't think it's good for my physical health, either. I'd like to make positive changes, but it's hard to know where to start, so that's why I'm making a list of ingredients I consider "unsafe", so I can hopefully go on to make a list of "safe" foods that are actually good for me.
Finding out that I'm autistic did help me feel a bit better about my pickiness, which makes it easier to address.

Unveiling the Secrets of Nutrition for Effective Weight Loss
I hope everyone's doing well! I've noticed a lot of questions around nutrition for weight loss, and I thought I'd share some insights that might be helpful for those on their journey to shed a few pounds.
1. Caloric Deficit - The Key Player:
Weight loss fundamentally boils down to burning more calories than you consume. This is known as a caloric deficit. Focus on creating a sustainable, realistic calorie deficit to see gradual and lasting results.
**2. Balanced Nutrition is Vital:
Opt for a balanced diet that includes a mix of macronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, and fats) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). This ensures your body gets the necessary nutrients for overall health while promoting weight loss.
3. Protein Power:
Protein is your ally in weight loss. It helps you feel full, preserves lean muscle mass, and has a higher thermic effect, meaning your body burns more calories digesting it. Include sources like lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy, and plant-based options.
4. Smart Carbs and Healthy Fats:
Choose complex carbohydrates like whole grains and legumes, and incorporate healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, and olive oil. These provide sustained energy and keep you feeling satiated.
5. Mindful Eating Matters:
Slow down, savor each bite, and pay attention to hunger and fullness cues. Mindful eating can prevent overeating and help you develop a healthier relationship with food.
6. Stay Hydrated:
Water is often overlooked in weight loss discussions, but it's crucial. Sometimes, our bodies confuse thirst with hunger. Drinking water before meals can also help control portion sizes.
7. Limit Processed Foods and Added Sugars:
Processed foods and added sugars can contribute to excess calorie intake and make it harder to control your weight. Opt for whole, unprocessed foods as much as possible.
8. Regular Exercise is a Bonus:
While nutrition plays a significant role, incorporating regular physical activity can enhance weight loss efforts. Find activities you enjoy, whether it's walking, jogging, cycling, or any other form of exercise.
Remember, everyone's body is unique, and what works for one person might not work for another. It's crucial to find an approach that fits your lifestyle and preferences. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, consulting with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian is always a wise choice.
Wishing you all the best on your journey to a healthier, happier you! Feel free to ask if you have more questions. 🌟

The healthiest breakfast habits for weightloss
Certainly! I'd be delighted to provide you with comprehensive guidance on establishing healthy breakfast habits for weight loss. Please find the information below, broken down into various sections for clarity.
Experts' recommendation
Prioritize Protein: Protein is a critical component of any weight loss-focused breakfast. It provides a feeling of fullness, reduces hunger, and aids in muscle preservation. Opt for lean sources such as eggs, Greek yogurt, or plant-based options like tofu or legumes.
Incorporate Fiber: Fiber-rich foods are your ally in weight loss. They promote satiety and help stabilize blood sugar levels. Whole grains, oats, chia seeds, and berries are excellent choices to increase your daily fiber intake.
Choose Healthy Fats: Including healthy fats in your breakfast can also contribute to weight loss by keeping you satisfied longer. Avocado, nuts, and seeds are great sources. However, be mindful of portion sizes due to their calorie density.
Watch Portion Sizes: While the quality of your breakfast matters, so does the quantity. Avoid overeating by using measuring tools and paying attention to portion control. This can prevent unnecessary calorie consumption.
Limit Added Sugars: Minimize your intake of sugary cereals, pastries, and syrups, as they can cause energy spikes and crashes, making it harder to control your appetite throughout the day.
Include Fruits and Vegetables: Adding fresh fruits and vegetables to your breakfast provides essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They are low in calories and can make your meal more satisfying.
Hydration is Key: Start your day with a glass of water to kickstart your metabolism and stay hydrated. Herbal teas and infused water are also excellent options without added calories.
Meal Timing: Consider the timing of your breakfast. Eating within an hour or so of waking can jumpstart your metabolism and prevent excessive hunger later in the day.
Plan Ahead: Prepare your breakfast the night before if you have a busy morning routine. Overnight oats or smoothie ingredients in pre-portioned bags can save you time and ensure a nutritious start.
Monitor Progress: Keep a journal of your breakfast choices and their impact on your weight loss journey. This can help you identify what works best for you and make necessary adjustments.
Summary: To sum up, here are the key takeaways for the healthiest breakfast habits for weight loss:
Prioritize protein for satiety.
Include fiber-rich foods to stabilize blood sugar levels.
Choose healthy fats in moderation.
Control portion sizes to prevent overeating.
Minimize added sugars.
Incorporate fruits and vegetables for essential nutrients.
Stay hydrated with water or herbal teas.
Consider meal timing for optimal metabolism.
Plan ahead for busy mornings.
Monitor your progress with a journal.

How long has it been since you moved out of the house you grew up in? I haven't moved out yet, but it has been 15 years since we moved out of my childhood house – a duplex that my immediate family, my mom's brother's family, and my grandparents shared.
What color shirt are you wearing? Chestnut.
The last time you ate leftovers, what was it that you were eating? I can't even remember when that was anymore... it may have been spaghetti from Jollibee? My mom had ordered a massive tray of it so it lasted well into the following day.
What was the last flavor of ice cream you ate? Shoyu caramel.
Do you regret anything you've done in the last 24 hours, and if so, what? Yes, everything that happened that led to us getting lost on our way to Nasugbu yesterday and somehow ending up back in Taguig after already making it to SLEX and wasting 1.5 hrs worth of time and gas. It's too complicated to explain and no one here will get the directions anyway so I won't bother to explain, but that has been the worst part of this weekend and is another reason why I hate the south and driving in it.
What is your favorite type of soup? Mushroom soup and miso soup :)
When was the last time you saw a beautiful sunset? Two months ago when we joined this dinner cruise thing in Thailand.
What is your favorite song at the moment? Dust by Seventeen is beautiful.
What are 5-10 things you love about being you? - I always have a stubborn determination to be good/do better at things I want to be good at; - I look out for other people first before ever considering myself; - I love animals; - I take no issue being on my own and doing fun things on my own; - Mistakes no longer bother me as much as they used to.
What is your favorite board that you've made on Pinterest? I don't spend enough time on there to be making boards.
Do you get on Facebook or Instagram more? These days, probably Instagram.
What color is your favorite sweater? I don't have one.
What are three things people would never guess about you just by looking at the photos you post on social media? - I'm into punk rock and had a phase in my life when that was all I listened to; - My dad works abroad so I've seen him infrequently my whole life; - For a long time my mental health was on a continuous decline.
What is one thing you have too much of? Receipts that I need to throw out.
What was the last thing you ate or drank that was blue raspberry-flavored? Maybe some candy. Idk. I rarely have anything in blueberry.
What are three of your favorite scents? Vanilla, coffee, anything ocean-y.
What was the last flavor of tea you drank? Lemon iced tea.
When was the last time you wore your hair in a fishtail braid? I don't think that's ever been done to my hair.
What is one annoying thing your computer does? There's nothing I don't like about my laptop, as old and slow as it's gotten over the years. This is my baby to the very end and I'll only ever replace it once it decides to sign off for good.
What type of fruit do you eat the most? Avocado, if I eat any fruit at all. I generally try to avoid them.
How often do you go out to eat? Once a week on average, typically on Sundays with family.
What would your dream wedding dress look like? No idea, but a peg I'm likely to use is Audrey Hepburn's 1954 Oscars dress. Only things I'd tweak are the length and the floral design.
Which fall flavor do you prefer: pumpkin spice or apple cinnamon? Neither are flavors I see myself leaning into, but I mean I guess I'll go with apple cinnamon only because I have no clue what pumpkin spice tastes like? I won't be having a good time though lmao.
What is the most annoying thing about your life right now? This upcoming work event that we can't seem to pin a date on. I just want to get this shit over with as I've recently discovered I have much bigger life things to tackle now.
Which holiday treat do you like better: candy corn or conversation hearts? Candy corn because at least I wouldn't find them cheesy.
What is your favorite apple-flavored treat? Does it count if I say apple pie only because I like the pie crust?
What are you counting down the days to right now, if anything? My hypothetical new job. I don't think that'll stay a concept much longer anymore.
What was the last book you read about? It was BTS' memoir so I'll let that explain itself.
Have you been daydreaming a lot lately about a scenario you wish would happen? I can say that about the last two days, yes.
What are three of your favorite things about camping? I've never gone camping before.
If you could choose what month to be born in, what month would you have chosen as your birth month, and why? I'm not sure I have a preferred birth month. Any would have worked lol.
...and what is your actual birth month? It's in April.
What are three of your favorite things to do on a rainy day? Turn on my BTS-on-a-rainy-day playlist, fix a cup of coffee, stare at the rain.
Would you rather eat strawberries or watermelon? I'd try watermelon. I've never tasted it.
Do you prefer smoothies or milkshakes? Milkshakes.
Do you prefer hamburgers or hot dogs? Hamburgers.
When was the last time you felt nauseous? Last night.
What was the last thing you ate that made you feel nauseous? I don't really get sick from food.
Do you enjoy going to your local county fair? Idk I've never been to any, we don't even have 'counties' here.
How far away do you live from the place where you were born? About an hour or so away.
Do you prefer zebra print or cheetah print? Cheetah, if anything. Generally not a fan of animal print though.

大家好! Pa and I liked the kungpao tofu at the vegan cafe so much, we returned to try their bean burgers with roasted sweet potatoes. The latter was done perfectly and weren't too sweet. We'll visit the vegan cafe again because I have my eye on their bibimbap. After the meal, Pa craved ice cream and waffles, so we went to an ice cream cafe and shared 1 serving of it; seems like ages since I last had dessert that isn't fruit!

Unpolished rice congee is my favourite way to eat whole grains. I revisited the vegetarian stall which sells it and ate my fill of tau kwa (firm tofu), vegetarian duck, Chinese spinach and hairy gourd. I also introduced YL to unpolished rice fish congee at the place which I brought Pa and K to; when she tasted her first spoonful, she squealed with delight. It is THAT delicious. We had a good catch up and promised to meet again.

Although I start my mornings with coffee, I try to reduce my reliance on it for the rest of the day. Healthy and tasty alternatives are readily available, which makes achieving this easier. It's not that coffee is bad; I'd just been drinking too much and became over-reliant on it when things got stressful at work. Dou jiang (soya bean drink) is a good substitute when I need a pick-me-up and its natural fragrance is quite addictive. Some retail businesses also offer unsweetened options; I may introduce Pa to 1 of them soon.

The craving for tomato egg noodle soup was so strong this week, I had to eat some or it would drive me demented. There's something about steaming hot, flavourful and tangy broth, large fragrant clumps of egg and slurp-worthy QQ (springy) noodles that's incredibly satisfying. If there's 1 meatless meal that hits the spot every single time, it's tomato egg noodle soup. Also this week, I forgot about meat and that's okay. Meat keeps me warm and it's way too hot now to eat any.

Plant proteins have been incorporated into my meals at home and sometimes when I dine out. The long and short of this series of posts is: many of us who eat moderately healthy here don't eat fast food, pasta and dessert (except for fruit) often; we don't eat avocado regularly either. Fish, yes, tofu, yes, lots of veggies, yes, and rice, congee and soup noodles. This isn't a Mediterranean diet; it's ours and we deserve to be proud of it because it's just as good and our people live just as long as those in Europe. 下次见!

tue, aug 8th (day 9)
today wasn't super productive, mainly because i didn't really have a plan. in the morning i painted a bench in the little garden of the apartment building, then worked on a sewing project for a short while until i got tired and basically just watched mean girls doing nothing. and taught mum how to prepare tofu on the pan.
in the afternoon i got some rewriting done and then went grocery shopping.
i always get something i wasn't expecting to find, i just wanted to take a look at one shop with home decor and brought home this cotton rug. i'd been looking for one like that for some time to give the rabbit some specific area that would be his, making it easy for him to move around since the floor is too slippery and rabbits don't like moving around on it. i couldn't find it anywhere and then randomly just saw it in pepco. i'm not even surprised.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i also got a rabbit toilet because i'm getting my bunny niece tomorrow to take care of her while my sister is away, and i thought it could be great practice for taking care of my own. i spent like 20€ on the stuff for her but i don't care, i just want her to live better than she is now and i'm buying it for her, not for my sister who didn't even bother doing some research on how to properly take care of rabbits and keeps her in a cage the whole day...
i rewatched legally blonde eating dinner (tried zucchini spaghetti with avocado sauce, pretty good.) and then finally wrote down a list of things i need to get done before i leave next week. so i'll be getting up with a goal tomorrow and moving through the day happier and with a direction. ;)
even though it might seem like a completely meaningless post, summarising my day oftentimes makes me realise that i got done much more than i thought. no, i wasn't 100% effective every second. and i don't even want to be if i'm honest, i'm not interested in being a machine, thank you very much. but i did make significant progress forward in multiple goals and that's what counts.
i hope you had or will have a wonderful day and maybe listen to a song you like today ;)
