mine | kuroo tetsurou
a kuroo x f!reader one shot loosely inspired by taylor swift’s dancing with our hands tied.
wc: 3k words, in which kuroo finds himself head over heels in love, in secret, with his project partner. contains manga spoilers!?
Tumblr media
--
it started like any other modern school love stories: being project partners.
with the tokyo prefectural qualifiers inching closer, kuroo was getting busier with morning and after-school practices. being the captain of the nekoma volleyball team was not a walk in the park and he knew that very well as he was always dealing with the loud and playful, yet very reliable team. but as devoted as he was to the sport, kuroo was also still a student. and when he's not in the gym, he would be spotted in his classroom with his nose stuck in a science book or writing formulas for a chemistry project. he was a bright kid and he always excelled in anything he put his mind to, be it sports or academics.
but he was baffled with anything related to literature. the boy almost always fell asleep in class whenever their teacher would go on about hamlet, or catcher in the rye, or, romeo and juliet. he wasn't failing english literature but he wasn't technically the best at it. which was how he found himself right now in the library, various reference books about english authors laid out on the table, with a girl right in front of him.
y/n l/n, a graduating student just like him. also an accomplished individual in her own right, she was a nationally recognized violinist, a prodigy one might say. kuroo's heard of her, that's for sure, he's known that she's represented their school countless times in music competitions and recitals ever since middle school. it would be a lie to say he hasn't been keeping his eye on her because the truth? he thought that she was interesting and he respects her and her many accomplishments.
he did not realize that he was staring and not getting any work done until she called him out on his behavior. 'stop staring and get some work done,’ she said without stopping her typing on her laptop. she couldn't afford to get a failing grade in this final paper, so if it meant doing everything by herself, she'd gladly do it. but kuroo wasn't having any of it.
'you're probably thinking you don't need me to do this paper, aren't you? do i look unreliable to you? i am hurt.' that got her attention. bingo, he thought. she looked up at him, eyes wide open, and for a while, she studied him. granted she wasn't the most outgoing and social person in school. she mostly kept to herself and the few close friends that she has. some might say that she was very intimidating to talk to, hard to reach, out of their league. what they didn't know was underneath that calm and quiet exterior of a top-class violinist, she was a cheeky girl with a sharp tongue and witty demeanor.
she smirked, 'i'm sorry if i made you feel that way. but if you really bothered with our paper, you wouldn't just be sitting there, gawking at me for the past thirty minutes.' he was stunned, and was about to say something when she continued her little tirade, 'i don't know what is going on in that head of yours, but it better be about the analysis of the postmodern romantic literatures.'
he laughed and shook his head. she got him and he was falling hook, line, and sinker. the seeds of admiration planted in his heart from when they were in middle school were now slowly blossoming into something more. he didn't know what it is or how he would deal it. but right now, he was going to focus on their paper. so he stood up from his place on the table and settled on the seat next to her, and the two delved into conversations about their project, losing track of the time as they finished their paper until the daybreak arrived.
to everybody's surprise, the pair got a grade of 98 on their paper. the teacher remarked how he had his doubts about putting them together, but was glad that they were able to collaborate and pull through. after that period, she came up to him and thanked him for being a good project partner, 'you exceeded my expectations, kuroo. i am actually glad to have worked with you even if it was for a short while.' he felt the same, and being the awkward persons that they are, they shook hands and went on their separate ways.
yet somehow, even after finishing their paper and having nothing else to do with one another, kuroo found himself wanting to speak to her, to see her, to be with her. he'd grown to like her company so much. he thought she was comforting. he'd liked how she always had something to say to his playful quips, how she was able to keep up with his banters, and how being with her just felt so natural. they'd formed a bond, they shared a chemistry, and that much he acknowledges but he wonders if she also feels the same.
the night before their first game in the national qualifiers, kuroo was restless. he was anxious. he had high hopes for their team, especially now that he was on his final playing year. what if they drop out on the first day? what if their trainings and preparations weren't enough? what if he wasn't enough? constant doubts plagued his thoughts that he wanted nothing more than to talk to someone and let it all out. so without a second thought, he reached for his phone and dialed her number.
she answered on the third ring. 'kuroo? what's up?' he swears his heart skipped a beat at the way his name sounded from the other line. he closed his eyes, not saying anything, because at this moment, just hearing her voice already brought tranquility to his raging thoughts.
'i'm sorry, i just... couldn't sleep. and i-'
'you have your first game tomorrow, right?' how did she know, he pondered. 'everyone at school has been looking forward to nationals qualifiers. my friends say our school is one of the strongest. they've also been telling me that the captain is quite the catch.' there it is. her classic friendly flirtation. he could detect a hint of smile as she said that last statement and he couldn't help but hope that maybe there could be something more between them.
'will you be going to the arena tomorrow?'
'do you want me to?'
'yes, i'd like that very much.'
'then i'll be there.'
the opening ceremonies were done and the nekoma team was now warming up for their first game. while the rest of the players were doing their stretches, practicing their services and receives, kuroo was standing in the sidelines, his eyes scanning the benches for that familiar face. and when he spots her, making herself comfortable in the seat, he feels a huge load being taken off his shoulder. and when their eyes make contact, he finds a new strength and determination that he was going to win this game and make every point for her.
while they lost to fukurodani in their morning match, they were able to win their second game in straight sets and clinched a spot in the nationals. she was floored with how the team was able to overpower the opposing players. she's always known their school volleyball team was a powerhouse. but now seeing them in action and watching him in his element, she found herself being drawn to kuroo more, wanting to learn more about him, wanting to be the one to ease his worries, to be there for him in his victories and in defeats. she felt so proud of him and was overwhelmed with these emotions that she couldn't stop the smile that was showing on her face. he looked up at her in the audience, giving her the slightest wink, and she reciprocated with a flying kiss. cheesy, she thought, but it was worth it when kuroo suddenly blushed and looked away.
kuroo was making his way to the players' waiting room with the team when he saw her silhouette passing by the gym doors. he ran, muttering an excuse to kenma that he forgot something in the bleachers, and caught up with her. he took her wrists in his hands, spinning her around, and dragged her away to the back of the arena. when they arrived at a secluded place, they were catching their breaths. through ragged breaths, she managed to say, 'congratulations. you were great.' those words were enough to open a dam of emotions inside kuroo, those words were all he needed to confirm the growing affection that he was feeling towards her.
so he hugged her, so tightly as if he didn't want to let her go. finding comfort in the embrace, kuroo uttered the words that he has kept inside since that day in the library. slowly he pulled himself away and looked in her eyes, 'i like you. would you go out with me?'
the moment he asked that question, it was like time suddenly stood still for kuroo. no one told him that when you like someone, you're risking exposing your vulnerabilities to them. no one warned him about the possibilities that the potential lover would look at you differently, that expressing your love would drive them away. but she proved those theories wrong as she pulled him down by collar of his team jacket and gave him a sweet kiss on the cheek.
'yes, i'll go out with you.'
and thus began their hidden relationship. secret glances in the hallways, discreet touches when passing by in the school grounds, and stolen kisses in the rooftop. it wasn't that they were ashamed of being seen together, they weren't just ready to be public yet. for sure, both of their friend groups would pester them with questions. they would be the topic of conversations of the entire student body, the mischievous volleyball captain and the quiet violin star. for now, they were content in loving each other in secret, in their after-school hangouts and weekend home dates and sleepovers. in fact for kuroo, he was more than okay with keeping the relationship to themselves because he did not want to share something so precious and so dear to others.
but of course, there were times that the couple almost exposed themselves. one time when the team's practice went into overtime, kuroo had texted her to go ahead and that he'd meet her at the park near her house. he didn't know that she also stayed behind, putting in another hour to practice the i giorni piece. so by the time she had read the message, she decided to wait by the school gym and wait for him. an hour passed and the doors to gym were opening, she jumped to her feet and searched for kuroo among the people who were going out. if kuroo hadn't spotted her first, she would've run and hugged him but he found her first. the team had questioning looks on their faces, kenma sizing her up and yaku looking like he already knew what was up. they barely escaped the situation unscathed if it weren't for lev, a big fan of classical music, who fanboyed and diverted the conversation toward her next music competition.
another instance was during nationals. when they lost to karasuno, despite enjoying the game against their friendly rival, the team were down in the dumps. the ride back to the campus was quiet, no one dared to speak, and for the seniors, they knew it was their last trip to the nationals. usually after a match, they would have post-game meeting but the coach allowed the boys to go home early and rest. at that moment, kuroo wanted nothing more than to run to her house and curl up in her arms. he said his goodbye to kenma, much to the second year setter's surprise because they always went home together. he was getting ready to leave when lev asked, 'where are you off to captain? that's not the way to your home.'
'i'm going to see someone first. see you guys tomorrow.' unknown to him, the team had shocked look on their faces, asking each other the one question: does he have a girlfriend? yaku actually proposed to follow him home, but kenma stopped them, 'let him go. he's not gonna be happy if you guys showed up somewhere he clearly doesn't want you to be.'
'but aren't you the least curious if he's hiding something,' lev inquired, earning him a smack on the shoulder from kenma, 'i am. but i am sure that he will tell us when he's ready. let's just let him be.'
however, the team couldn't contain themselves. since that time, whenever kuroo went out of the gym or the classroom without telling anyone, they would always have someone following him. mostly it was lev, the helpless and clueless first year. then one day, lev saw kuroo heading up to the roof top and in his excitement, he texted his teammates telling them what he was up to. almost simultaneously, the boys went to the fifth floor of their building and crouched behind the roof top door, listening in on the conversation happening behind the door.
it was one of their rooftop lunch dates. since he got a taste of her bento last time, he's been asking her to cook for him. she gladly took up his request, making all sorts of meals that he loved and putting them in cute bento boxes. they were having a great conversation, enjoying the breezy atmosphere, and obviously oblivious to the crowd that has gathered outside. but the nearing graduation was looming over them. they've always avoided having the talk. they were scared what would happen to their relationship if they brought up the topic. but kuroo knew there was no point avoiding it.
'what are your plans after graduation?'
she smiled, already knowing where this conversation was going. 'i want to pursue my music,' she reached a hand out to cup his cheek. 'it's special to me, you know.'
he put his hand on top of hers and leaned to her touch. kuroo understood. as important as volleyball was to him, her music was something she held dear in her heart. he was almost scared to compete. he knew that world-class musicians trained hard and often traveled for concerts and recitals. was this hidden relationship doomed since the beginning? didn't they stand a chance to be out in public as a couple and proclaim their love freely? why did they decide to keep themselves private in the first place?
she sensed that a million thoughts and doubts were clouding his mind once again. smiling, she pulled him in a tight embrace, with him encircling his arms around her waist and burying his face in the crook of her neck. but his worries were gone in an instant when she said, 'you're part of my future too, tetsurou.'
immediately, he detached himself from her and looked at her, not believing what he just heard. 'what did you say?' she laughed and tackled him to the ground, almost straddling him and gave him a kiss. 'i said, you're in my future too. if you think that our secret relationship will be over and thinking of breaking up with me the moment we graduate, you are so wrong, mister.'
'but, your career. wouldn't you be going to music school? you'll be so busy and-' again, she interrupted him. he was always no match for her, completely, he was a fool in love for her.
'and yes, i will be busy. but i am willing to make our relationship work. i want this to work. you're the best thing to happen to me and i have been thinking. i'm quite tired of playing hide-and-seek with my friends about our relationship,' she laid on his chest, hearing the erratic beating of his heart. 'i want to be able to call you mine in public,' she looks up at him, narrowing her eyes, 'i wouldn't want others thinking they can have you. in case you don't know yet, i am quite possessive.'
it was unfair, how she held so much power over him. how with mere words, his heart would be moving so fast that it was threatening to beat out of his chest. as she said that, he broke into a loud laugh. not being able to contain his happiness, kuroo caressed her cheek and gazed at her lovingly, and finally said those three words, 'i love you.'
and just as they were about to share their second kiss in the rooftop, the door swung wide open, with his teammates tumbling down like bowling pins in the process. like deer caught in the headlights, the boys sheepishly stood up, looking over their captain who was obviously pissed. if she hadn't gotten off him and went to his teammates, he would've chased them already. but she laughed it off, finding the situation amusing. 'well, i guess now we don't have to worry about how to tell our friends about us.'
she stood up, leaving kuroo in the concrete floor, and went to introduce herself to his teammates. sitting up, he observed the scene in front of him. over the course of their relationship, he learned that she wasn't much of a people person. his heart warmed at the sight, seeing her fit in instantly with his friends, giggling at their jokes and trying to get to know them better. he thought that he was a lucky one.
their story might have started like any other high school love stories, kept secret from prying eyes, but it wasn't facing the the threat of ending in graduation. after all, they have a future to look forward to.

playing cupid | kim taehyung
summary: despite playing cupid all the time, never did you realize that you were falling for your best friend.
genre: high school au! slight angst/fuff
a/n: guys kcon was such an amazing experience i can barely function my god.
Tumblr media
Around the school, you were known as the matchmaker, and you felt if that title was a bit ironic. Even if you were credited with causing the most lasting relationships in the entire school, you never really had your experience with the emotion. Sure, you knew exactly what you were supposed to feel, your heart racing, your palms becoming sweaty, and your knees becoming weak—yet, no one has ever made you feel like that. Despite the fact that you have never been in a relationship before nor have you ever felt this supposed emotion, did not deter other students from asking you for advice with their love lives. And you were not exaggerating when you have said that you have heard it all. From ideas on where to go on the first date, how to ask someone out, how to french kiss, how to know if someone is interested, etc. Of course you did your best to try and appease everyone, giving the best advice that you possibly could under the circumstances, and to your surprise, it actually worked. They kept coming back, more and more people coming to you with hardships in their love lives, you did your best to remedy their situations and give them your best advice. At times, you could admit that it seemed a bit overwhelming to be on the receiving end of problems that you were inexperienced in dealing with, but as soon as you heard that everything worked out in the end, it kind of made your actions a lot more rewarding.
Enter Kim Taehyung, one of the most attractive guys at the school and also your best friend. The two of you had met in your freshman year of high school, when the teacher assigned you with showing the new student around the school, and from there it seems as if he hasn’t left your side. Your friendship has been close ever since, the two of you told each other and were attached at the hip, travelling everywhere together—even if his class was on the other side of the building. Despite being strictly best friends, there has been a numerous amount of occasions where you have been approached asking if you and Taehyung were dating. Each time your answer was always the same, as you shook your head profusely, insisted that you were just best friends, and rubbed your arms awkwardly. There would be times where people would believe you and lay the matter to rest, yet there was also times where they would be suspicious and interrogate you even further. You couldn’t blame them for being nosy after all, along with being best friends with Kim Taehyung, you were also friends with his group of friends, practically the Greek gods of your high school: Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hosoek, Jeon Jungkook, and Park Jimin.
Kim Namjoon, class president and top student in the school; Kim Seokjin, captain of the basketball team and a overall the best looking guy at the school; Min Yoongi, a musical prodigy who composed musical masterpieces in his spare time and always played in the pit orchestra for plays at school; Jung Hoseok, captain of the volleyball team and one of the best people in the school’s choir; Jeon Jungkook, quarterback and captain of the football team, captain of the ice hockey team, and an overall track superstar; and Park Jimin, the lead in every single school play and captain of the baseball team. Then there was Kim Taehyung, the best artist and photographer at the school, also, your best friend. These boys were god-like and had an absolutely spotless reputation in the school—and now that you were associated with them, your popularity soon began to rise and almost met their standards. This meant that you were also on a pretty high pedestal and perhaps the one person that almost everyone in the school envied, well aside from Kim Yuha.
Kim Yuha was an absolute goddess in every way shape and form. Perfect figure, perfect face, perfect skin, perfect grades, etc., she was exactly the type of girl that every guy in the school fawned over—as girls wanted to be her and the guys wanted to date her. In your eyes, you couldn’t deny that she was stunning, with her pale skin and flowing black hair, but that wasn’t the main reason that you were envious of her. No, your issues with the girl ran more than just skin deep, instead it was what she was indirectly that surely did piss you off. Lately, she has been hanging around Tae and the other boys more often, always clinging onto Taehyung as the two talked about miscellaneous things. You wouldn’t say that you were jealous, since that was an over exaggeration of the emotion that you were feeling, but it did make your stomach twist and turn and cause your hands to ball up as fists by your side. Usually Yuha and your group of friends ran in two completely different circles, but lately it seems as if those two circles were colliding and it was completely  throwing you off balance. Even if you could allow yourself to admit that you disliked what she was doing, you couldn’t possibly bring yourself to hate her. There was this thing about Yuha, and despite her beauty she was not mean and it was absolutely impossible for her to be. She was so sweet that it practically gave you cavities to talk to her, and as much as you tried, there was simply nothing that you could possible hate about her.
Now, in no sense were you implying that Kim Taehyung ever belonged to you, because that was far from the truth. Absolutely, under no circumstances did you harbor any sort of feelings for him or see him as anything than a brother, at least that’s what you have been concealing from the world for the past few years. You weren’t sure when it happened, somehow you had come to realize that the fluttering inside your stomach after seeing him and the the goosebumps that you would get up and down your arms were not standard “best friend behavior.” Instead, something ran deeper than you were letting on, and upon realizing exactly what you were dealing with, you promptly refused to acknowledge it. There was no way that this could possibly be happening to you, Kim Taehyung was your best friend and nothing more—and as much as you willed yourself to believe that statement, it was nothing but a lie. And the situation only seemed to escalate from there. That’s how you found yourself in this situation, staring at the sparkling hazel eyes of your best friend as he just possibly obliterated every chance you had of escaping the friend zone.
“So, you’ll help me, right?” he grinned, flashing his perfect teeth, “Everyone always tells me how amazing at this and with you helping me, there’s no way she can say no.”
You were frozen, standing still as if you were a deer caught in the headlights. He was asking something impossible of you, a request that couldn’t possibly think of fulfilling. He wanted a date and if that wasn’t painful enough, he wanted a date with the most popular girl in the school, Kim Yuha. It felt as if you had been stabbed and to make matters worse, someone was twisting that knife inside of you. You knew what you had to do and made up your resolve right then and there—there was absolutely no way you agree to his request and opted to turn him down in the nicest way possible. Yet, when you looked him in the eyes, your resolve crumbled and you were once again left as a blubbering and stuttering mess. His face was practically beaming, as he stood eagerly awaited your response, and in that moment he looked like the happiest boy in the world—and there was simply no way that you could refuse.
“Of course, that’s what best friends are for,” you smiled, looking up at him. You practically willed yourself not to cry, hoping that he would see your hands shaking, the tears welling up in your ears, or hear how loud your heart was hammering inside your chest. He couldn’t contain his excitement, running up and embracing you in a hug, and for a moment everything was perfect. For a moment you could forget everything that had taken place moments before. Inhaling his scent, you could pretend for a second that he he didn’t just utter those words to you and that everything was going to stay the same. And as you clung onto him for dear life, you could almost picture that he was never going to leave you for another girl.
“Taehyung-ah! If you don’t hurry we’ll be late for Biology!”
And just like that the entire illusion shattered. Speaking of the devil, there at the end of the hall stood Yuha, waving and beckoning for him to follow her. There she stood, with her perfect hair cascading down her shoulders, her perfect hair shining, and her perfect face smiling. Giving you one last squeeze, he waved to her before turning his back on you and walking down the hallway towards her. With one last wave from her, the two of them disappeared down the hallway, shoulders pressed together tightly, as they made their way to the Biology classroom.
As you swallowed the lump inside your throat and took a deep breath, you gathered your belongings and walked into your next class, Chemistry, attempting to stomach the pain that was just inflicted on you. Sitting down at your desk and preparing for the lesson by the teacher, you exhaled a shaky breath, wondering what hell did you just get yourself tangled up in.
Taehyung noticed that something was off immediately, and he did everything in his power to attempt and remedy the situation. On numerous occasions he attempted to ask you about, wondering if there was anything that he could in order to make you feel better and open up to him. Yet every time he did this he would notice the glazed look that would shine in your eyes and how you avoid eye contact, muttering out a hasty excuse before leaving him. It was eating him alive and your expression has been burned into his mind ever since he first saw you wear it. He was helpless in a situation like this, absolutely powerless and unable to help you in any way shape or form.
Then there was the isolation. The two of you have been friends for such a long time and told each other everything, yet these past few days he noticed this void that was forming between the two you. Every time he reached for you it seemed like all you did was pull away and he could feel the fear bubbling from the bottom of his stomach. He couldn’t lose you, that was simply not an option, as he was unwilling to throw away the trials and turmoils that the two of you faced together for some misunderstanding. Despite the fact that he prided himself of telling you everything and how there was no secrets between the two of you, he did have to admit that he was being a hypocrite has been keeping something from you. In his eyes he didn’t see it as anything major or life changing, in fact to put it simply, he had a slight crush on Kim Yuha. She was the one for him, absolutely perfect in every way and someone that he could see himself spending the rest of his life with—well at least, that’s what he assumed till you started ignoring him. From that moment on Taehyung’s mind has been engrossed on one thing and one thing only and that was attempting to make amends and get his best friend back.
Slamming his locker closed, he could see you beginning to make your way down this hallway in order to make it to your English classroom. You took the same route everyday and it wasn’t uncommon for the two of you to walk down this hallway, arms brushing, as you conversed about your days before class. So far you hadn’t noticed him, leaning casually against his locker, watching your figure as you approached closer and closer to him. His heart began to race and his hands began to get fidgety inside his pockets; however, as soon as you spotted the softly smiling male, you turned your heels and quickly walked in the other direction. A deep sigh left his lips, as he hit the nearby row of lockers with his fist, in a fit of frustration before turning and walked towards his own class.
For the rest of the morning he was in a slump, some kind of middle ground where he wasn’t exactly his happy and cheerful self, yet he was not depressed or sorrowful—he was just kind of there. And as he plopped his tray down on the lunch table before sitting down and moved a couple bits of his food around with his fork, did the rest of his friends finally speak out.
“Dude, what’s wrong with you?”
Taehyung’s fork stopped moving as he looked up at Min Yoongi who just spoke. The blond haired male was casually eating his sandwich, while casually leafing through a couple sheets of music, awaiting his answer. Other conversations at the table seemed to have quieted down, the other guys turning to face him and listen in on the main conversation at him. All around him the noise of the cafeteria roared around him, and from where he was sitting he could see you hunched over a couple of textbooks as you scribbled something down in your notebook.
“Honestly, I don’t really know. It’s just that [Y/N] has been ignoring me for the past week and i have no idea what I’ve been doing wrong. I’ve tried to talk to him/her about it but they would just ignore me or walk away, I just want him/her to start talking to me again,” he sighs placing his head in his hands as he rubs his eyes. Unbeknownst to Taehyung, the boys exchanged similar glances, before turning to Yoongi to speak.
“Well, have you done anything to piss [Y/N] off this week?”
“No! And that’s the thing, I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong, I mean all I asked her to do was help me get a date with Kim Yuha, since [Y/N] is the best matchmaker at the school and I figured that with him/her helping me that I was gauranteed that date, but something doesn’t feel right. I mean he/she has never gotten mad at me before and I didn’t do anything wrong and—” as he continued to justify himself and become even more anxious over the fact that he couldn’t find mistake that he has made, the group of males exchanged another knowing look.
Taehyung was quite the oblivious type, he was not dense per se, but kind of indifferent to the feelings of girls. It was clear to almost everyone that knew both you and him that you harbored a crush on him—well, obvious to everyone except him. An abundance of times you had attempted to drop hints, almost blatantly telling him that you were in love with him; however, he never took the hints. Honestly, the boys felt sympathetic to your cause since you were pinning after him for years, and they believed that deep down inside that Taehyung knew that he loved you too.
“You asked her to help you get a date with Yuha, that’s cruel even for you,” Namjoon sighed, shaking his head. Taehyung’s eyebrows furrowed, and gave Namjoon a questioning look.
“What do you mean? [Y/N] does this all the time, I mean I just thought—”
“You thought you would ask your best friend, who you’ve known for years and who cares about you deeply, to help you get a date with another girl,” Jimin prompts, looking up at Taehyung.
“I mean yeah, it’s [Y/N], he/she agreed to help me—they’re my best friend. I mean I can’t do this without him/her—in fact, I can’t do anything without him/her,” he muses, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Are you sure they’re just your best friend?” Jungkook asks, a small smirk forming on his lips.
For years Taehyung has never hesitated to answer this question which has been posed to him over a thousand times, yet this time he did. Of course [Y/N] was his best friend, but for as many years as he could it seemed as if he attempted to suppress these other emotions building inside of him. Now that was the million dollar question, one that for the past years he has simply refused to answer. For years there have been implications about his relationship with you, deeply personal questions about whether two of you were romantically involved, which he always denied. Only now did he realize that maybe they could have been onto something. He has always had a soft spot for you, something that he always regarded as fondness between two close friends, yet now he was unsure. There was something more between the two and finally today was the day that he sensed it.
Sure every other person that lusted after him made him satisfied—and he wasn’t saying that in an egotistical sense, but he enjoyed the way that they made him feel that maybe he wouldn’t mind settling down and spending the rest of his life with one of them.  They would make him feel content, but being content now seemed unsatisfactory to him. He wanted to experience the emotion, the one that everyone in both movies and dramas seemed to experience—the magic, the whirlwind, the whole adventure.  And when he pictured his future, besides Bangtan Boys (or what they liked to call themselves) there was only one other constant that he could see in his future, and that was you. He wanted you to be in his life for as long as he lived, only then did he realize that these feelings that be had for you transcended over the boundary of being “just friends”. Goddamn, Kim Taehyung was in love with you.
Upon this realization he stood up, quite dramatically from his seat, drawing the attention of his table and almost the entire lunch room. With his cheeks turning red, he waited until the room became noisy again before pushing in his chair and running towards the exit of the cafeteria—not before shouting a word of thanks to his hyungs and friends.
It was nearly impossible trying to track you down since you seemed to make it your personal mission to avoid him at all costs. He searched up and down every hallway of the school, till spotting you rummaging through your locker. It was a scene that he has seen a million times before, your locker being such a mess that it was near impossible for you to find anything inside of there. Around you were discarded pieces of crumpled loose leaf paper, balls of old worksheets and tests, and random writing utensils. He approaches you cautiously, tapping you gently on the shoulder and raising his arms in the air when you turned around to face him.
You were flustered to say the least, slamming your locker closed as you readjusted the books that you held in your hands. It has been a while since the two of you interacted, as he stood there with his hands in his pockets, tinkering with items within said pockets. This was a first as Kim Taehyung was never nervous, and he was practically quaking in his shoes by talking to you. Perhaps this was a factor for why you did not leave, or perhaps it was the fact that maybe you just missed his company.
“I’m sorry,” he burst out suddenly, “it wasn’t fair of me to ask that of you—”
“—it’s fine,” you cut him off, however he kept speaking.
“—especially when I don’t even like Yuha that much.”
You paused letting his words sink in as questions began to race through your head. He is clearly sick or  out of his mind, there was no way that he didn’t have a crush on Kim Yuha—everyone had a crush on Kim Yuha—not to mention that he asked you to set up a date for him with her. Yet, even though you doubted the audensity of his statement, it still gave you a hint of hope that maybe you had a shot with him.
“What do you mean?”
That simple question was the only one that you could come up with, looking up at him and awaiting for his answer. This answer could either make or break you, it would be cruel of him to give you hope just for him to take it away once again. You were unsure if your heart could handle yet another injury inflicted by him, and you were unwilling to be a participant in his cruel and twisted game.
Instead of answering you immediately, he went and grabbed your hand. “I am an idiot, someone who was too blind to see literal perfection standing in front of me. Honestly, I don’t even like Yuha and my feelings for her are nothing in comparison to what I feel for you. I’m sorry for asking that favor of you, it was insensitive and in hindsight so stupid. Can you forgive me?”
So many things were happening in his confession that it was almost difficult for you to process what he was saying. You could only assume that you looked absolutely horrendous standing in front of him with your mouth agape and eyebrows raised. Kim Taehyung the heartthrob of the school, one of the most popular students at the school and your best friend had a crush on you. No, that was impossible, this had to be some sort of cynical and twisted dream. You couldn’t fathom any plausible reason for this to happen as you struggled to cope that this in fact was the truth.
“I don’t think I understand,” you muttered as a faint blush crept up your cheeks.
His angelic laugh filled your ears, a sound that you haven’t heard in such a long time—a sound that you missed. Placing his hands on both sides of your face, he forced you to look him in the eyes. His irises sparkled with that emotion that you have only seen in the eyes of couples that you have helped to matchmake, absolute love and pure admiration. “Do I have to spell it out for you? You know, for someone who is skilled in matchmaking, you sure are clueless when it comes to your own love life,” he chuckled, “It took me a while to finally realize and for that I apologize, but I love you not Kim Yuha nor anyone else, just you, [Y/N] [L/N].”
Taehyung glanced at you with a hopeful look in his eyes as you could feel your whole body fill with warmth. Grabbing the collar of his shirt you pulled him down to your height and placed a kiss on his lips, You could feel his arms move till they were around your waist, as his lips began move with yours. When the two of you moved apart from each other, there were stars shining in both of your eyes.
“And I love nobody else but you, Kim Taehyung.”
