LMAO thank you for this <3 i do think there are some reasonable critiques to be made on this decision, but a lot of what i'm hearing is entirely not reasonable. it's tough out here for all of us, and that includes the team at watcher. they're not wrong to want to make their company sustainable while maintaining creative control. the audience is not owed 'free' content. (and it's not free, kids! you're the one being sold to data-miners and advertisers when the content is 'free')

i'm lucky enough to be in a place where i can afford it, and i'd much rather pay watcher than netflix or disney etc. i don't believe ryan, shane, and steven are so out of touch that they only want money. they love their shows. they care that what they make is something they are passionate about and invested in. but that's still gonna cost money in our current society; this is just the reality we live in

#i get that it sucks for a lot of the audience and it does suck #but the current yt model is not sustainable for anyone #like. i hate to break it to people but yt is google is a monopoly #if we have any hope it's to continue to disrupt the status quo #we have to support smaller artists and indie endeavors and get art out from under the thumb of greedy corporate interests #capitalism is most certainly killing us all but the guys at watcher aren't the problem

i feel like i’ve been WAITING for the other shoe to drop wrt people’s opinions about watcher for this very reason. not that i think the reaction is completely not understandable but the greater the parasocial relationship, the greater the fallout as soon as public opinion shifts. you don’t have a relationship with these people they’re just content creators, chill

SO i am currently working on the attacks, rn the direction of the attacks/all animation is based on the direction you are walking in/ the wasd buttons, if you are attacking you won't walk but you are stil looking in the direction you are pressing in the wasd buttons. HOWEVER i have a problem, i want the attacks to be based on the position of the mouse! i originally thought i could do smth i have rn where i have a variable with a vector2 and 4 inputs (wasd) and that use that as the blendspace2d. I want the same but on the direction of the mouse compared to the player, so if it is up the animation is positioned up, and if the mouse is on the left the animation is on the left!! BUT I CAN"T GET THIS TO WORKK I'VE LOOKED EVERYWHEREEEEE PLSS TELL ME YOU KNOW SMTH I AM DESPERATE

this may come off as just a little bit harsh but i would like to slam a brick against the head of whoever decided soundcloud should not ONLY have 30sec-long ads between songs for non-premium users, but ALSO make them as sonically unpleasant as humanly imaginable.

like yeah you're right i DON'T want to have loud toothbrushing and gargling ASMR blasted directly into my ears at 150% the volume of the song i was just listening to. you may think "great! now pay us for premium and we'll remove the worst audio ads you've ever heard :)" but literally all that makes me want to do is immediately close your app and find whatever alternative methods i can to never give you my money again

#not to MENTION they claim that paying for Go+ or whatever 'directly supports your favourite artists' #which is just like. a flat out lie #weirdly enough there are actual big name musicians who have their stuff on soundcloud for streaming just like spotify or w/e #and you can only listen to their stuff on there if you have a premium plan #BUT if you're a normal indie musician? like all the chiptune and FM artists i specifically go on that site/app to listen to? #afaik they don't earn a single penny #in fact they actually have to PAY to upload their stuff to the site past a certain point. which is why most of them just have multiple acct #anyways this got a lot more specific about my particular grievances with soundcloud so it's good i left it in the tags #but yeah anyways #the toothbrushing ad was a real thing and i actually pulled my earbuds out in revulsion because it was so bad #fucking evil is what that is #buny text #webbed site
