Quadruple Crossing
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia Pairing: None Character(s): Dabi, Villain!Deku, League of Villains Rating: SFW Word count: 791
A/N: @villainmonth Day Three: Lies. I struggled with coming up with an idea for this one, so it’s probably going to be short
When Dabi had first joined the league, he had been skeptical. The ‘leader’ was an annoying brat who thought he knew everything and on top of that, there was a member who had to be no older than his baby brother would be now. To top it all off, he had an attitude to rival Shigaraki’s and that was saying something. Dabi wasn’t sure how the kid had made it this far either since it seemed like he had a deathwish of some kind with how often he would poke and backtalk Shigaraki.
It wasn’t until a few months later as Toga clung to the other teen as they watched Shigaraki play a video game, that Dabi found out that Deku was quirkless. He would never admit it, but he ended up throwing a fit in hushed tones with Kuroguri at the bar over it. The kid was no less than 14 or 15 years old, and he was quirkless. What good was he going to be in a villainous group?? The smokey void man seemed to agree for the most part, but calmly reassured Dabi that should something happen to with Deku around; or any of them really, and there was no foreseeable positive outcome for them, then Kuroguri would be at the ready to warp them out at a moments notice. Dabi didn’t much care for the idea but at this point, he had no say in the matter anyway.
Over time, as years passed and they all got into some kind of trouble trying to follow Shigaraki’s plan, even after All for One was defeated and locked up, Dabi started to feel comfortable and empowered by the gang. Toga had her quirks sure but she was at least semi-reliable, along with Twice. Spinner, while he did complain pretty often, was valuable just as well. What Dabi didn’t expect was to get along so well was Deku and Compress. Those two took to each other like magnets.
And then Hawks came along.
Dabi hadn’t paid too much attention after that, getting close with Hawks as they both tormented Endeavor for a while. The whole group, at least everyone outside of Shigaraki, had been entertained and amused with the attack that happened, leaving the number one hero scared in the face.
It wasn’t until a few months later, after talking with Shigaraki’s Doctor, that something started to seem off to Dabi. Both Deku and Hawks seemed to have changed slightly. Deku more than either of them. Deku was slightly jumpier but waved it off saying he was just working on figuring out a strategy for what they needed to do. Dabi knew he should have kept a closer eye on the kid when he started stiffening up, but they had all grown so accustomed to each other and relaxed... That was their mistake.
A couple nights after Deku started getting twitchy, there was a raid on their shitty base. And without Kuroguri to warp them out; having been captured a while back when they tried to get Bakugou to join them, the League had nowhere to run. Being caught off guard in the middle of the night didn’t help their case as the Heroes went for the dangerous ones first, meaning Shigaraki and Compress- Despite his quirk being so simple, being able to enclose things into marbles could prove to be formidable if not dealt with immediately.
The last to be captured was Deku, at least from what Dabi knew anyway; overhearing Hawks talk to a couple of officers about the boy trying to run off into the woods surrounding the base. So this must be what Deku was getting jumpy about, he knew Hawks was up to something and was probably threatened over it and got stressed out. At least that’s the only explanation Dabi could come to after all.
It wouldn’t be until a couple days after that Dabi would come to find that it wasn’t how he perceived things in the slightest. The blue firey villain was able to make out, over Toga and Shigaraki’s yelling and Twice’s two-sided ranting, that Deku had actually been working undercover the entire fucking time. Granted he wouldn’t be seen favorably by the public because of his time working with the Villains, but the police knew the truth and were apparently thankful.
Dabi didn’t know what to think. Not only had Hawks double-crossed them, but Deku had also. They had all been lied to and it landed them in jail in the end. Dabi felt a little numb, blaming himself for getting too comfortable with how things were as he wallowed in the fact that their trust had been broken and those years bonding with Deku had all been a lie.

Moments Faster Than Light (original)
Words: 3000~
Summary: In an instant, her mind reeled in the wake of infinite potentiality, strung between a series of futures with no clear answers. But in the end, two choices stood out highest above the others. Loyalty to her empire, or loyalty to childish, hopeful desire?
Genre: Sci-fi (in setting), drama, kinda an introspective piece
This is an original work I wrote for a fiction writing class I just finished. I set about wanting to tell a familiar, character-focused story, but set in a futuristic, unfamiliar setting and this is what I eventually came up with. Without saying too much, at its core I’d say it’s about forgiving oneself- and the often long and tangled path we humans take to reach that point in life.
As this is an original work- and thus devoid of the normal fandom audience that would otherwise read my stuff- if you read and enjoy it, I would appreciate any reblogs or boosts you could give. Enjoy :)
Firsthand experience of faster-than-light travel was truly a curious thing, she mused, perhaps even borderline unnatural. The stomach twisting sight of visible space bending around the broad, riveted hull, distant pinpricks of light elongating into thin streaks as the ship accelerated to its maximum velocity, she watched the whole spectacle from behind a tinted window in the engine room a day ago. This ship was en route to a distant colony world at the far edge of the Milky Way, on an aid mission due to recent skirmishes against a warring human empire that had grounded all civilian crafts to and from the planet. Thousands of light years away, and they’d arrive in no less than a week. How haunting then, that humankind’s vessels progressed far enough to cover such an unimaginable distance in so little time. Considering that, it never ceased to awe her how they possessed the ability to cross the physical boundaries of— for many— what encompassed the lived space of an entire lifespan in naught but a flicker of the second hand of her watch.
Tamara stifled a chuckle as she adjusted her uniform. While she’d love to follow that mental thread through the far reaches of the cosmos, she cut herself short. There was no time on the docket for such fantastical, philosophical musing today, especially since her last review haggled her for “having an occasional tendency to appear unfocused on duty.” If she truly desired the chance to redeem herself and impress her superiors on this mission, it was imperative she kept to task. Calloused fingers brushed against the metal pins at her collar, two to signify her rank as junior lieutenant, and with a distant smile she imagined what the weight of three more might feel like.
Not now though, not now. With an intentional crack of her knuckles she wrung these ambitions from her mind, and eventually settled back into the comforting rhythm of her current assignment in the engine command room. Her hands worked with quick familiarity in unscrewing the back panel of a broken medical scanner, this kind of mechanical work engrained so deeply into her subconscious it no longer required her constant attention. In between other jobs, Tamara’s superior officers generally allowed her to fix whatever busted tech she came across, satisfying her desire for busy work on slow days. She was thankful for that kindness; it kept her thoughts from wandering too far into the shadows of troubling memory she’d rather not recall. Her main duty however, rested in monitoring engine stability. Whenever the main computer caught a taunting glitch in functionality, she diagnosed the root cause of the problem and instructed the handful of crewmates under her command on the proper fix. In the olden days of space travel she bet her job would be lost to droids or half-sentient programs, but in this age of technology one learned to cherish the presence of the human touch. That being said, thanks to the numerous redundant failsafes the ship’s builders no doubt installed into the main drive, glitches were few and far between. Hers was a slow job for sure, but still one of great importance.
“Lieutenant Raske, may I speak to you for a moment?”
She lay the medical tech on her desk and eagerly spun in her chair at the call of her supervisor, meeting his gaze. “Yes, Commander?”
“I, ah—“ He squinted through thick horn rimmed glasses at whatever text the tablet in his hand displayed, face masked with stress, and for an instant Tamara’s mind fixated on every possible outcome of this conversation, desirable or not. “Sensors in the rear cargo bay seem to have picked up an unusual signature? You’re well acquainted with our sensor arrays, so I’d like you to go check on it. Honestly, I think it’s just a malfunction you’ll have to fix,” he admitted, absentmindedly tugging at curls of greying hair at the nape of his neck, “but you know what they say about foresight in a time of war.”
“On it,” she said with a confident nod as she stood from her post, secret relief flooding through her veins. New assignments always excited her. “Report back. I’ll send the data to your viewfinder.”
...♦...
Tamara strode through the sterile, winding corridors, the steady echo of her boots against the deck acting as her pace keeping pendulum as she passed fellow crewmates. Thick panes of UV reflecting glass acted as portals to the world outside their artificial gravity filled, climate controlled paradise. Some people on this ship envisioned space as a purely hostile domain, and understandably so. She certainly couldn’t blame them, with the steely eyed gaze of pulse canons beckoning their attention from just outside the hull portholes. However, when she saw space, she liked to extend her envisioning to the endless universe beyond the walls of her ship. What of the star cluster glistening just above the starboard bow, or the nebula spreading its arms through distance space like veins of ore in stone? In an ideal world, one where her empire’s safety wasn’t constantly usurped by the threat of the Solarians, she knew she wouldn’t be a military officer; she’d be an explorer.
She scanned her badge at the door upon reaching the rear cargo bay and entered the vast, low lit room, a thrumming sense of anticipation for a mystery yet understood expanding to fill the unused space. After a few moments spent fussing with the controls of the light panel, she glanced between the schematics on her viewfinder and the shelves of cargo, vying to familiarize herself with this new space. Wide shelving units extended all the way to the riveted metal ceiling, ten meters above at least. Bins of provisions— ranging from food staples like potatoes and beans, to practical supplies such as thermal blankets and bandages— were stacked wherever they could fit. From her observations, she was nearly ninety nine percent certain this entire bay was dedicated to nothing but storage of aid supplies for the civilians at their destination.
Her gaze dropped to the viewfinder in her hands. Securing the data on the strange signal her commander had intercepted was child’s play, and she quickly devised that the sensors had been tripped by unexpected motion. The ping appeared to originate from a storage locker in the wall a few rows to her left. She bit at her lip, meeting eyes with this locker as if it could sprout lips and vocally provide her a rational explanation for her mystery. Perhaps something had shifted inside. Yes, that must be it. The boxes got jostled about when the ship jumped to light speed, perfectly reasonable. A new curiosity boiling within her core, she trekked directly to the wall and pressed her palm flat against the burning cool steel of the locker’s door. She gripped the latch, and after a second’s hesitance pushed up. A harsh metallic squeak pierced through the stillness like the memory of bombs dropping through the cloud layer, and the cacophonous terror that accompanied them. Tamara couldn’t stifle the shout that escaped her lips and echoed throughout the entire bay.
She saw.
Within the locker, half concealed by thick shadow and curled in fetal position inside a storage bin, sat a girl. Her face was pallid and thin, and her pale grey eyes—  blown wide with an emotion falling somewhere between fear and shock— appeared far too haunted for a child of her age. The clothes on the girl’s back were faded, threadbare facsimiles of the gaudily patterned fashion she herself had been accustomed to in her last years on Earth. Something about her appearance, whether it was the familiar mode of dress or the overall shape of her face, tugged at distant threads of memory. The threads wove through glimmering constellations, through years of stories, dreams, and childlike laughter, and the reassuring warmth of a small hand clasped within hers. They wove through acrid smoke and muddled sobs, unraveling the knots she’d tied that suffocating guilt within.
She clutched at her communicator, unknowing. Unsure. Blood pulsed through her veins at an almost painful tempo, her chest aching from the pressure. In an instant, her mind reeled in the wake of infinite potentiality, strung between a series of futures with no clear answers. But as her subconscious tore through the varied consequences any one of these decisions might bring, two distinct choices called louder than the others...
...♦...
Choice one.
All crewmates must report unidentified trespassers to the ship’s command immediately. Any actions made against this protocol resulted in removal of rank and potential charge of treason. Despite the mounting conflict gnawing at her bones she knew this fact well; after all, it was a rule branded onto the souls of everyone in their first year of academy. “There’s no place for anything but skepticism in a time of widespread war,” or so went the claim. Tamara held her own issues with this rhetoric, but good luck trying to provide criticism to authority when one desired nothing more but promotion.
“Please,” the young girl said with a slight quiver, voice clearly hoarse from extended lack of use.
She tried not to let the air of desperation sway her best judgements, or wedge itself within the part of her soul that achingly remembered the experience of being a sister. Everyone knew the Solarian Empire they fought against was not above tactically planting impoverished children as sleeper agents. As much as she desperately wanted to prove this child wasn’t a link among enemy forces, she saw two issues with this endeavor. First, exactly how would she prove that the girl was telling the truth? She might talk to her, yes. Perhaps she might question why she decided to board this craft, ask what her intent in doing so unannounced was. But inevitably, if one asked a spy “are you a spy, or not,” they’d deny it with every fiber of their being. Like it or not, trust wasn’t an element in high demand right now.
Second, and most importantly, she wouldn’t dare endanger her entire crew on nothing more than a glimmer of childish desire. She failed in her vigilance years before, and look where that left her. Every action, every decision she made within her ranks... she dedicated them all to him, to the one she loved, to the one she couldn’t bury before she evacuated from Earth or even mourn, because there wasn’t a body left to find. As much as she desperately wanted to move on, she thought of him every morning as she attached her pins to her lapel. She carried him with her on her assignments. She carried him within her dreams. The pull she felt towards title of captain— the very concept of steering her crew through the most distant, ancient nebulas, through space never touched by the whims of humankind— resonated deep within her, as if the constellations had written this aspiration into the very nucleotides of her DNA. She hadn’t been alone in this idealized vision of her future. He may have only been ten, but he had dreams too.
Two breaths, she told herself. Deeply, in for four and out for eight, feeling her lungs swell with stale air.  In a bolt of hardened duty, she brought the communicator to her mouth and pressed to talk.
“This is Junior Lieutenant Raske, I found a stowaway in cargo bay R1 and need backup? Over.” She averted her eyes from the girl before she could truly see her reaction. (Although nothing stopped her from hearing it.) This was a tough but necessary decision, she told herself, picking at a stray string dangling from a hem on the upper leg of her trousers. A child she may be, but truly knowing her motives was impossible. And despite her reasons for stowing away inside a bin filled with potatoes, any other choice might lead to her punishment, to the end of the rapport and reliability she’d spent years building.
Security arrived within the second minute, and she wordlessly stepped aside to let them through. The two officers grabbed at the girl’s arms, pulling her kicking and screaming out of the locker. Her furious grey eyes yelled betrayal as security whisked her away to containment. Tamara’s nerves now considerably shaken, she lingered in the cargo bay a moment longer to close the door and conduct a final diagnostic check on the sensors. A large shuddering sigh drew from her lips as she dropped her forehead against the wall.
Don’t think about it. Don’t think about the girl, or about the ruthless interrogation she’d likely be subjected to.
At least both her crew and her position were safe, beyond a sliver of doubt.
...♦...
Choice two.
As much as she dared deny it, she couldn’t help but see her brother in the face of this girl. It wasn’t exactly a matter of resemblance; the only features they shared were grey eyes and similarly dimpled cheeks. Rather, it was their age. She appeared close to the same age Artie was when he— well, when she lost him to this dreadful war.
She’d loved her brother. Over five years of separation between them, but their bond transcended that of normal siblings. By all else but title of mother, she practically raised him. Neither parent could ever afford to spend much time with their children because of work, but between scribbled sketches of spaceships and the endless mythology he invented at whim about every constellation that danced across the night sky... they found their own normal. She was only sixteen the day this “normal” splintered. It happened at the start of the current war against the Solarian empire, an old confederacy of worlds colonized by humans whose leadership had gone rogue. For weeks, a constant slew of news reports had outlined the mounting threat their strengthening forces posed to Earth, and yet she assuaged ten-year-old Artie’s worries and sent him off to school that morning anyways. When even but a fraction of the powerful Solarian armada crashed through the atmosphere hours later, haloed by fire, they caught Earth’s defenses by surprise. She remembered feeling the shockwave rattle the foundations of her own school, students pushing and grasping to reach the window so they could catch a glimpse of the cloud rising miles away, fringed with inky black tendrils smelling of death. Denial sliced through her heart first, followed by blinding anger on the day her family evacuated off planet. And once she enlisted in Academy, the last rotting sensation left after all those other emotions had boiled away was guilt.
“Please,” the young girl before her begged. A single word, unquestionable in its message.
Help.
She thought of Artie, how his messy chestnut hair always fell in front of his eyes, the way he’d smile at her like she was his whole world, an endless ring of laughter as they lay on a blanket, stargazing under her old Earth sky. She thought of treason, of the punishment due to her should anyone catch her concealing a stowaway. Her actions might condemn her, strip her ambitions of one day becoming a captain into shreds. But should this girl be an innocent... a refugee of war, trapped between the lines of a conflict no child should ever be burdened with? She also just might save a life.
Tamara’s pulse calmed, her path selected.
“I never saw you,” she said, meeting the girl’s eyes. Whatever words the girl planned to say next were lost in the slack jawed shock that followed.
She gently closed the locker, plans already weaving through her synapses to adjust the parameters of the sensor array to mask the stowaway’s movement throughout the rest of their journey. It’d be an easy adjustment, nothing more than jumping a single line of code. As she walked back to the engine room, she tapped her fingers at a syncopated rhythm against her thighs, preparing within her the lie she must tell next.
Her commander stood at the far wall of the room, and apparently had watched her position for her while she was away on assignment.
“Commander?”
He spun on his heels, greeting her with a trusting smile she knew she didn’t deserve. “Ah, Lieutenant, spectacular timing. Any findings?
“Negative, sir. Nothing of concern,” she said under the guise of confidence. “I’m almost certain the signal you received was just a glitch. It should be an easy fix for me.”
“Excellent,” he nodded, stepping away from her chair. “I’ll leave you to it.”
...♦...
Tamara gripped the handles of the storage bin and picked it up, muscles straining under the weight. Following her crewmates, she carried the food stock down the ramp and to the exterior of the ship, where the light of this colony world’s star warmly welcomed her. She deposited the bin with the others and inhaled deeply, appreciative that the air here didn’t leave her with a stale, metallic taste lingering on her tongue. In the distance families lined up in droves, eagerly waiting for the ship’s crew to begin passing out food and supplies.
When she entered the rear cargo bay for the second time this journey, around an hour ago, the girl was nowhere to be seen. She kept a watchful eye for her among the civilians waiting for aid, but a deep hunch told her she may never know her full story. Since there was no news to be heard of a young stowaway found in the side lockers as they unloaded, however, she could only assume the girl slipped out in time. Of course, why or even how she trespassed on their ship remained a mystery, but as Tamara watched a solitary mother in the crowd turn and embrace her child tightly, she realized it didn’t matter. The only truth that mattered was that she put in her best effort to save her. Everything else was out of her hands, factors of fate. She leaned against the outside hull of the ship, the threads of guilt that had tangled across her soul for so many years slowly but surely beginning to unravel.
Wherever that girl may be now in this vast, mysterious universe, she at least hoped she finds what she’s looking for.

Kagome frowned and puffed out her cheeks, narrowing her eyes at the man towering over her. “But Inuyasha,” she began, a growing list of excuses already perched on the tip of her tongue.
He silenced her with a shake of his head. “No buts,” he replied, pulling on his jacket and looping his gray scarf around his neck. “You’ve been stressed out for months, Kagome. Tonight is supposed to be stress-free. Just trust me.”
Still unhappy with their plans for the evening, she begrudgingly followed him out of the house, stomping her boots rather childishly through the snow. Deep down, she had to admit she had been feeling very disorganized as of late. Months ago, she would’ve had plenty of time to hang out with her friends and study for school. But recently, it felt like her schedule had been stretched to its limits – like she had to squeeze in time for everything.
Inuyasha had taken note of her anxiety rather quickly, used to being on the receiving end of her short-tempered responses. Once school had finished for the semester, he had forced her to keep an entire Saturday night open to spend time alone together – just the two of them.
Gnawing on her thumbnail restlessly, she stayed quiet as the soft tunes of Christmas music played over the stereo in his beat-up red Ford truck. Glittering lights flashed by the window as they drove to a nearby pond that always froze over during this time of year.
Under a black marble sky, Kagome climbed out of the truck and surveyed the area. People already mingled together around the rim of the pond, some making snow angels or having snowball fights, others huddled together to enjoy cups of hot chocolate they had purchased from a vendor nearby. A few had taken advantage of the seasonal ice rink, spinning expertly or helping their children wobble along the sides.
“I’m not really up for this,” she grumbled, folding her arms around herself, not at all in the mood for the cold weather.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. It wasn’t like Kagome to be so uptight during the holidays. He figured something must be on her mind, but she wasn’t one to divulge her secrets so willingly. If he couldn’t fix whatever it was that bothered her, the least he could do was get her mind off of it for a few hours.
He pulled out two pairs of skates he had stashed behind the driver’s seat. Kagome’s eyes widened. “Ice skating?”
“Yeah,” he said, locking up and trudging over to one of the benches that framed the pond. “We never had a chance to go last year.”
She frowned, skeptically looking between the pond and the rusty old pair of skates that had been buried in her closet for close to two years. “I’m out of practice. I’ll probably fall.”
“Nah, I’ll be there,” he assured, sitting down and slipping off his boots. “But if you fall, we’ll fall together.”
A rosy tint grew in her cheeks as she slowly lowered herself onto the cold bench beside him. She looked out across the smiling faces of the other townsfolk, laughing cheerfully and enjoying the winter weather. The small hills in the distance remained practically untouched, the lights bordering the pond sparkling off the blanket of snow that had fallen earlier in the day. Everyone had donned their winter coats, each hue darker and richer than the next, a stark contrast against the snow-covered trees.
Inuyasha finished lacing up his shakes before turning to her expectantly. Kagome huffed with reluctance and slid on her skates, which he quickly began to lace up.
“I can do it,” she mumbled.
“I know.”
Her heart pounded in her chest like reindeer hooves as his fingers skimmed the flesh of her ankle, his warm breath mingling with her own as he bent his head close to hers. Confusion fluttered just beneath the surface of her troubled thoughts. Her puppy-dog love for Inuyasha had changed and she didn’t know why or how. They had been together for the better part of almost two years, but it felt different now, and she had begun to wonder if they had a future together – not just a future in the spring, but a future that would last a lifetime.
She had confessed her feelings to Sango a few weeks ago, and the brunette had laughed.
“You’re in love with him, aren’t you?” And although Kagome had chuckled and waved it aside, she had never actually answered Sango’s question.
Was she in love with Inuyasha? Was this what love felt like? Did… Did he feel the same way? Or was she still just a crush to him?
“Kagome, you comin’?”
She snapped out of her thoughts to see Inuyasha had stood and held out his hand to help her up. She blushed and took his offered gesture before they both staggered over to the entrance of the pond. She tried to keep her legs as steady as possible as she stepped out onto the rink, trying to get used to the friction of the ice beneath her feet. Inuyasha wrapped his hand tightly around hers, letting her hold onto the edge for balance.
Kagome clutched onto the side, people flying past as she attempted to hobble along. She was frightened, her body stiff, making it hard to have a fluid movement with her skates. “Loosen up,” Inuyasha instructed as he glided easily next to her.
She sent him a cold glare, mentally cursing his ice hockey habits from when he was a kid. He had only played for one season, but his skills from skating had stuck with him since then. Every year, ice skating was just like riding a bike for him.
“I don’t want to fall,” she bit back, a tad annoyed at his easy-going attitude right now.
He scoffed. “You can’t be afraid to fall,” he said, pulling her free from the wall. “Otherwise you’ll never have any fun.”
Eyes wide, Kagome watched almost helplessly as the wall moved further away, and she clung to Inuyasha’s arm with a death grip.
He rolled his eyes, gently peeling away her hands and holding her at arm’s length. “Just put one skate in front of the other,” he coaxed, letting go.
“Inuyasha!” she called after him, arms flapping to keep her balance. “Don’t let go!”
He chuckled at her expense. “Come on. Just relax and have fun.”
She swallowed thickly, sending him another glare, before taking a deep breath. I can do this, she told herself, working up the courage to start moving her skates.
Kagome precariously skated forward, taking longer and longer strokes, one foot after the other. Then she glided forward a short distance, and slowly her fear began melting away. Inuyasha had disappeared ahead of her, lost in the crowd of other skaters, but she knew he would come back for her. He always did.
She listened to the crunch of metal against ice as she skated around the pond. The murmur of voices and children’s laughter reached her ears as other people flew past her. Her thoughts were lost in the blur of wind blowing through her hair, making her feel like she was floating above the ice.
All the stress and anxiety she had felt over the last few months slowly melted away. For the first time in weeks, she felt free – like she was a kid again, gliding across her kitchen floor in her socks.
It brought back memories of years ago, when they had all been innocent children. One particular snowy day had been too cold for them to enjoy the ice rink, so Kagome, Inuyasha, and the rest of their friends gathered at her house to sip on hot cocoa and watch Christmas movies. Her mother had been baking cookies, the warm smell of gingerbread and brown sugar filling the air, as they all curled up on the couch.
She had brought her knees to her chest, feeling the sofa rock beneath her as Inuyasha shifted beside her. The glittering white lights of the Christmas tree sparkled off the linoleum floor and wind howled outside with the first snowfall of winter.
A soft smile came to her lips. The rhythmic pacing of her skates – ice, metal, crunch, swift, crunch – helped her to completely zone out. She forgot why she had been so anxious, forgot her concerns regarding her feelings for Inuyasha, and even forgot how annoyed she had been for being pushed to come here in the first place. She forgot all her troubles, and everyone around her. She focused on the cool night air in her lungs, the icy breeze whispering against her cheeks.
“Watch out!”
Kagome whipped her head around just in time to see a boy in a blue jacket flailing toward her. She screamed and tried to get out of the way, and even though he missed her, the action sent her off-balance. Arms waving in the air like a propeller, she struggled to keep composure, but found the slippery ice too much for her uncoordinated skating skills.
“Kagome!”
Strong arms wrapped around her waist just as she started falling, pulling her toward a warm-bodied chest as they both fell to the ice. Kagome squeezed her eyes shut on impact, but only felt the person underneath her instead of the hard, frozen water.
She looked down to see Inuyasha’s amber eyes peering up at her, a hiss of pain escaping his lips. “Kagome… You okay?”
Her eyes widened. “Inuyasha! I’m fine, are you okay?” she asked, glancing over him quickly as she climbed off him and to the side. “Did you hit your head?”
He sat up, rubbing his right shoulder where he took most of the impact. “Nah, I’m fine. Just a little bruised.”
“I’m sorry,” Kagome began to apologize, feeling terrible for her clumsy balance.
“Not your fault.” He nodded his head in the direction of the kid, who was crying to his parents more out of fear than any actual injuries. “Besides.” He looked back at her and smirked. “I told you we’d fall together, didn’t I?”
Amber eyes glowed from the bright lights surrounding the pond, and Kagome felt her breath catch. People skated around the couple as they sat there on the cold ice, but Kagome didn’t feel cold at all. Her stomach pooled with unfamiliar warmth, their breath mingling in their close proximity, her cheeks painted a rosy red, and she leaned in to capture his lips in a kiss.
Caught by surprise, Inuyasha almost fell backwards again, but managed to catch Kagome’s weight with his own, and leaned one hand against the ice as another curled into her long, raven hair. The kiss was rough and passionate, so different than what they had shared before.
As they broke apart, breaths shaky and uneven, she looked down at him. “Not that I’m complaining,” he said, sitting up straighter with a boyish smile. “But what was that for?”
And just like a Christmas night years ago, Kagome found herself fearless and the words were falling from her lips before she could stop them. “I’m in love with you.”
He froze, eyes widening a little in bewilderment. She watched his Adam’s apple bob up and down as he swallowed hard. “Ka-Kagome…”
She pulled away, fear suddenly clutching at her throat. “S-Sorry, I-I mean…”
Inuyasha furrowed his brows, cupping her cheek with his hand. “Kagome… Is that what’s been bothering you lately?”
Her breath hitched. He knew? Inuyasha had never been the perceptive type. He always took everything at face value, and never looked deeper than the surface. But somehow, he had known she had been troubled this entire time. He had known something had been ailing her.
He sighed, smiling as he brushed his thumb over her cheek. “You silly girl. Haven’t you been paying attention?”
Kagome’s eyes flickered over his with confusion.
“I’ve loved you since we were kids,” he confessed, his face growing warm. “And I’ve been in love with you since that night under the mistletoe.”
She shook her head. “I-I don’t understand.”
But then, just as those words left her mouth, she suddenly did. All the days he would walk her home from school or silently sit beside her as she studied. All the nights he would wrap her in his arms to comfort her or watch a cheesy romance movie he never cared for.
All the winter evenings, just like tonight, that they would spend together on a cold, starry night.
Her heart eased as she smiled, laughter bubbling in her chest as she realized how silly she really had been. How could she ever doubt that Inuyasha loved her? How could she ever doubt she would spend forever and a day with him?
Before she could say anything, Inuyasha wrapped his hands around her scarf and pulled her in for a kiss.

Light Side? Dark Side? Which side will you join? That’s the question every Star Wars fan must answer. Personally, we’re swearing our allegiance to the Galactic Coven.
This group of stylish, Star Wars-loving social media friends met on Instagram and formed a group chat to discuss the Disney Plus series The Mandalorian. Their conversations evolved to include Star Wars in general, theories about the fandom, and even subjects not related to Star Wars.
Eventually, there were so many members and so many discussions going, they had to move the chat to the Slack app, member Tina Estrella said. The Coven began as a safe space for women and nonbinary individuals to talk Star Wars and became a welcome source of support and solidarity when the coronavirus pandemic hit.
“We have like seven to nine channels on (Slack) because we all have so much we want to talk about,” Estrella said.
“Especially during this unnerving time where many are either struggling mentally, personally, or otherwise, we have this group of amazing people who are ready to defend, support, and cheer up anyone that needs it.”
The group organized a meetup in February at Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge. Several members gathered in Batuu. They created a stir when they showed up wearing bold, red outfits inspired by the Nightsisters from The Clone Wars animated series.
“We’re not all bounders, but wanted something fun to wear as a group without getting too complicated,” group founder Solanah Hernandez recalled.
“When we all got to Batuu, we realized just how much we stood out, a group decked out in red against the sandy architecture. We would’ve had fun regardless, but the outfits got such a positive reception, from travelers and cast members alike. It was a completely unreal experience, but the highlight was really just hanging out together.”
“Truly, it was such an incredible day,” Estrella agreed. “I’m so glad that we all had that weekend with each other before the pandemic took over.”
Estrella said the Galactic Coven’s day out in Batuu included lots of laughter, an encounter with a skeptical Kylo Ren, attention from Stormtroopers, an arrest by Chewbacca, and reservations at Oga’s Cantina.
Shortly after the meetup, epic photos of the group’s vibrant, witchy bounds began circulating on social media, garnering buzz and catapulting the Coven to Star Wars fashion icon status.
Their status was further cemented when, a few weeks later, the group participated in the #passthebrush challenge on TikTok. Members showed off their best Dark Side looks in “Don’t Rush the Dark Side,” a video edited by Epi Erichsen. Lightsabers, force pulls, a dyad pass, and a force choke were involved.
“This challenge was so fun to do because each of us brought our own style and personality to our ‘reveal,’” Estrella said.
“So many people commented and messaged us about how they loved it and were inspired to make their own and it truly warms me up just thinking about how so many people enjoyed it! … We truly tried to sprinkle in so many little details we hoped Star Wars fans would appreciate, so it was great to see the video be so well received.”
“It was a really fun thing to do during isolation that made us feel more connected, and I think that came through,” Hernandez agreed.
The name Galactic Coven was coined by member Nina Penalosa. The group’s original title was “Mandalorian Bitches.”
“We were all like, ‘Wow,’” Estrella said. “That sounded so much better fitting for us, as The Mandalorian was already over and we had moved on to discussing so many other aspects of Star Wars, such as the novels, movies, and animated series.”
The Coven made a major impression on social media while rocking some serious Star Wars style. It’s not surprising, considering many members of the group make fashion based on the fandom and run geek fashion businesses. Other members are artists and/or work in creative fields.
Hernandez began hand-painting leather jackets for herself and a friend to wear to Star Wars Nite and the May the 4th celebration at Disneyland in 2018.
“A year later, I took a chance and asked if any of my followers would like a Star Wars-themed jacket and, unexpectedly, orders poured in,” she said. “It’s really fun working with people and discovering what Star Wars means to them, because it’s so different for everyone, and I’ve really learned a lot.”
Estrella hand-paints purses, inspired by Eliza Sidney and Hernandez. Members of Galactic Coven include a film stylist and designer, a zine maker, an illustrator, a hair stylist, several writers, lots of vintage fashion enthusiasts, and cosplayers and makers of all kinds.
“I think (the group is) really just artistically oriented,” Hernandez said.
“Each of us loves Star Wars-inspired style, music, visual art, writing. We all bring something different to the table. It’s such a vast and varied universe, there’s a little something for everyone, and so many ways to be inspired and bring that into everyday life.”
Fashion is a natural fit when it comes to Star Wars, Estrella said.
“With Star Wars, some of the most prominent and iconic features of the films are the fashion and styling. From the sleek lines of a general’s uniform to dramatic statements, such as Padme’s entire wardrobe, Star Wars iconography is very fashion-based. Being able to create our own interpretations of Star Wars fashion is what makes our group very unique and I appreciate the talent of the many members.”
More than the killer fashion they’re putting out into the world, the Coven members say they appreciate the group’s “respectful and supportive” vibe.
“One thing I’ve heard over and over from, mainly, young women is that our openness and positive take on the subject has inspired them to delve more into Star Wars,” Hernandez said.
“It’s an incredibly intimidating fandom from the outside, but creating a small space to freely discuss one of the most divisive movie sagas there is, without judgement or gatekeeping, is the reason I still love Star Wars. Without a positive community, it wouldn’t have the same appeal.”
According to Estrella, the Coven planned to meet up in person this summer at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim (which will likely be postponed) and will gather at some point for another group bound in Batuu.
“Truly, I want to stress that we are a coven, not a club,” she said.
“We are friends who have bonded for months over Star Wars and we want to encourage everyone and anyone to find their own ‘galactic coven.’ We saw a void in the community where diversity and inclusion of non-male fans was missing and so we harbored a space to fill that gap. This is just the beginning!”
In honor of May the 4th (known as Star Wars Day), Temple of Geek Chic spoke to members of the Galactic Coven about Star Wars fashion. Read on for their favorite fandom fashion icons, Star Wars style inspo, and more. You can follow the group on Instagram, @galactic_coven.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I vaguely remember my family watching the originals but I wasn’t too interested as a kid. But then Anakin Skywalker comes outta nowhere in my early teens and suddenly his poster is on my wall. I became interested again after The Force Awakens, but obsessed after The Last Jedi.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
No one can compare to Padmé Amidala.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
I love finding old prequel tees secondhand. They’re something I can enjoy daily!
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I find so much vintage wear I love that I haven’t experienced too many geek or Star Wars-based brands, but I love the pins Rather Keen releases and the tees Super Yaki does!
Tina Estrella
@megadiabla
What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I had casually seen the films growing up, but I did not start to become a true fan until high school. Being a foolish kid that wanted to maintain my “cool” appearance, I suppressed my love of fandoms like Star Wars and Harry Potter because I did not want to be seen as a geek (mind you, I was an honors student and helped stage our production of Little Shop of Horrors, so I was def a geek whether I wanted to accept it or not, lol).
Then after high school, I was kind of like, “Who even cares?!” and I fully embraced my fandom love by wearing merch and attending fan events at my local AMC theater. Now I’ve attended two Star Wars celebration events (Anaheim and London) and am looking forward to continuing to immerse myself into this community of fans!
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
I love me some baddies! So I am all for the dark side fashion. Darth Vader will always be the most iconic to me (maybe because I love wearing black so much). So definitely Darth Vader, he might not have the range of Padme but he definitely is the most iconic character that I think many instantly recognize.
Even just seeing the character at Disneyland, something about that giant suit exudes power and I can’t help but gush over it!
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
My favorite item that I own is an item that I’ve kept for seven years. Again, because of my love of Vader, it’s an old H&M knit sweater with Darth Vader’s helmet prominently in the middle. It’s simple but I love it. Even though it fits a bit snug these days, I don’t think I will ever part with it.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
While she may not be a “brand,” I think Solanah is doing things that haven’t been done before. She truly has a way of incorporating the most brilliant designs into her jackets. As a fellow painter of clothing items, I am in awe of her every time!
I think that Super Yaki is also a brand that stays so current to geek and pop culture. Their shirts are so fun and many are those “if you know you know” type of designs and I think that it’s awesome when you can have a bit of fun with shirts like that.
I also think that Hot Topic is a brand that is so easily accessible and continuously makes amazing Star Wars and other “geek” collaborations. I especially love their artist’s tees. It’s where I go shop every Christmas because they have something for everyone.
Curstie Prater
@missvintagelady
What was your introduction to Star Wars?
The prequels. My father is a big Star Wars fan and when I was younger, he introduced me to the character Queen Amidala and from there on I was obsessed with Star Wars. I had this really amazing Queen Amidala paper doll book growing up and I remember playing dress-up quite often, trying to recreate her iconic looks.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
Oh, that is a tough question because there are quite a few characters that inspire me but if it isn’t my own version of a Sith look, I would say Leia Organa and Padmé Amidala. Leia has a lot of looks I can see myself wearing in my everyday life, especially her Endor look. I love that cape. I also wouldn’t mind owning Jyn Erso’s outfit. I really loved that look.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
I LOVE my Kylo Ren Hooded Capelet. I bought it for my first trip to Batuu and I wear them all the time. Even for looks that are not Star Wars-inspired.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I would say Her Universe because they have released some amazing t-shirts featuring lesser-known Star Wars characters and I really appreciate that. I also really enjoy thrifting at vintage stores or small businesses that carry simple pieces to create my own Star Wars inspired looks.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
My introduction to Star Wars was when I was a kid and my babysitter at the time tried to get me to watch it and I absolutely made a fuss about it. I didn’t care. Then, it came again in my early 20s when a friend at the time was incredibly obsessed with Han Solo and I didn’t get it, so she sat me down to watch one of the original trilogy films, couldn’t tell you which, and again I was just like, “What is this? This is boring!”
What really got me was the trailer for The Force Awakens. I remember when it was announced and everyone was so excited about it and I couldn’t figure out why. To say I was annoyed was an understatement. Looking back, it was definitely one of those, “I am not in on it and because I’m not I’m pissed everyone else is excited” situations.
So when the trailer came out and we see John Boyega’s head pop up, that’s when it hit me. I knew him from Attack the Block, so seeing him in a franchise where my only introduction was to a bunch of non-POC characters, I was just … immediately attached to him. That ended up being my first Star Wars theater experience and I’ll never forget it. Once I saw the trailer, I went back and watched all the previous six films by myself and the rest is history.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
It’s funny because I feel like if you asked anyone they’d have a clear-cut answer. I could say Padmé but honestly, while iconic, she’s not my favorite. I honestly don’t think I have a favorite? I think for me, because I am moreso on the back end of fashion, meaning I’m a designer. It’s my job.
I design and wardrobe style for film and for fun and I don’t really dress myself up. I’m really casual with hints of nerd in my day-to-day. But if I’m designing and creating for fun and I look to Star Wars, a lot of my inspiration comes from things like the tech, the helmet designs, the one dress a background character wore, the planet Crait … things like that.
If I do a round-up of things I’ve designed, I’d say a lot come from the First Order or the Siths. Currently, my obsession is translating Padmé gowns to scarves. In short, I’m all over the place. My own personal style, I suppose, is like that tomboy next door who is obsessed with Darth Vader.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
Probably my denim jacket. I used to work for Levi’s at their cooperate office in San Francisco. I bought a black denim jacket and had it embroidered to say “First Order” and then there was a shop in the lobby where you could buy clothes and I bought up all the Dark Side Star Wars patches to have them put those on for me too. Now it’s just decked out in First Order/Sith/Dark Side pins too. It’s fun to wear.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I don’t think I have a favorite one. I tend to shop all over the place. Currently, I’m obsessed with Super Yaki stuff though. They have a bunch of cool tees inspired by film and their Star Wars ones are great. I own the “The Prequels Were Great” tee.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
Sadly, I can’t remember my first viewing of Star Wars. It was kind of just always present in my house. My brother and sister are 14 and 16 years older than me, respectively, and so they were children when the first films came out. At some point, I saw it and started playing with my brother’s original action figures. I remember when the re-releases came out, followed by the prequels, which continued my passion for the universe as a child.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
Even though I’m not a fan of the prequels, there is no denying the style of Padme. And even though she may only appear for a brief moment and in one outfit, General Holdo’s ensemble is one of my all-time favorite looks in the saga.
What is your favorite Star Wars fashion item you own?
Far and above, my Han/Lando jacket that Solanah made me. Lando is my favorite character, followed by Han, and I have always loved their relationship, so I wanted a jacket that showcased that relationship. I also recently made a dress using my brother’s old Return of the Jedi sheets. In terms of accessories though, I would say the Poe X-Wing fascinator I made from one of the Revell model kits is one of my favorite pieces.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
Geek fashion brands are something I need to explore more. Sadly, there are only a handful out there, and I’m personally not a huge fan of any of them. I buy most of my clothing secondhand, and try to piece together Star Wars-inspired outfits using regular pieces of clothing. Or I like to sew my own stuff.
I do own a handful of Her Universe items, however, I have always struggled with fit with their stuff. While their items are cute, often the bust-waist-hip ratio is off, and the waist far above my natural waistline.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
One of my earliest memories was watching A New Hope with my dad when I was 4 or 5. I have loved Star Wars ever since.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
It’s a tie between Padme and her grandson Kylo, the best fashion icons in the galaxy.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
A gorgeous custom bag inspired by Queen Amidala, hand-painted by Solanah.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I honestly have so many brands and creators I love that I can’t list them all. Jordandene is responsible for getting me into geek fashion and I love all her stuff so much. Also, so many members of this coven make the most beautiful clothes and accessories, like Ren, Solanah, and Janey, just to name a few! I love supporting independent artists when adding to my geek wardrobe.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I found a Leia figure in the dirt in my back yard. I asked my dad about her and saw the original trilogy then at 6 or 7. I liked them but my dad wasn’t much of a fan so I didn’t really have the opportunity to delve back into the films until the prequels came out. I had a huge crush on Hayden Christensen and I instantly wanted to be Padme so it definitely instilled the love for Star Wars that came back full-fledged with this new trilogy, dressing up at Disneyland, and wanting to bring these strong, wonderful women to life.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
I don’t think there’s anyone in the galaxy who can hold a candle to Padme as far as I’m concerned. But I do have a soft spot for Qi’ra and find her style just a little easier to attain out in the real world.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
That’s a toss-up between my Japor snippet necklace, like the one Anakin made for Padme (I wanted one for so long, I was ecstatic when Disneyland sold one) and my custom jacket, painted by our founder Solanah.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I always try to find vintage or secondhand items first, when I can, since I find it brings a more unique, interesting story and obviously is great for sustainability. I definitely have a weakness for custom clothes. One of my favorite small shops is 1138 Clothing. (I was lucky to have a chance to model a Star Wars wedding party look for them a few years ago.) On top of that, many of our Coven members sew and I hope to guilt them into letting me commission some pieces soon.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I was very young, probably around 4 years old. My parents had the original trilogy VHS box set on display in our living room and I was always fascinated by the cover art. The original trilogy was always playing on TV in our house. I have these various vivid memories of my cousin Jessica and I always watching Return of the Jedi and pausing the (original) scene in Jabba’s palace just before the Max Rebo Band came on.
Jessica and I would run from the living room to the bathroom to put our hair in high pigtails and slap some lipstick on and then rush back to the living room to resume the film. We would then dance our hearts out and sing along with Sy Snootles. I really wish our parents had caught that on video. It was a bizarre and special little thing we did.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
In terms of fashion, it’s always Padmé for me. Her range was truly incredible. I really, really hope we get to see characters in future Star Wars projects that follow in Padmé’s footsteps when it comes to her iconic wardrobe.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
It definitely has to be the breathtaking Padmé leather jacket that Solanah designed for me. It’s a work of art. I knew I wanted something Padmé, because she has so little merchandise available and I wanted to represent her adequately. I let Solanah design it free range and she blew me away with the end result. It’s definitely the Star Wars jacket of my dreams!
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I really love Jordandené’s unique slogan shirts. I wear my “This is the Way” top so often. The fabric is so soft and the quality of her shirts is incredible.
Obviously, Solanah’s designs are out-of-this-world good. I am SO happy to see her thrive within the community and witness her craft evolve. I also really love fellow coven member Ren’s Star Wars-inspired hoods. Ren is so talented and their attention to detail is exquisite and precise. Right now, they are creating a double Padmé hood design and I absolutely cannot wait to see how they come out!
When it comes to Star Wars fashion, I really love taking subtle pieces and using accessories to make a “normal” outfit more of a galactic fashion statement. Shopping from small brands that aren’t at all affiliated with Star Wars has really been fun for me.
For example, I recently commissioned a piece from a shop called Sacred Crystal Co because Solanah had a beautiful red crystal necklace made that looked like a kyber crystal, so I commissioned a white crystal piece inspired by Ahsoka Tano and now it’s my favorite piece of jewelry that I own.
For my Nightsisters outfit, I wore this incredibly badass waist belt made by AELYSE and it really pulled my outfit from being just a normal, everyday thing to looking more like a Nightsister.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
When I was 9, Episode I just came out and my dad took us to see it. I remember sitting in a packed theater with people carrying lightsabers and having no idea what was happening. I remembered thinking how amazing Padme was. I had little to no idea that there were other Star Wars movies! I actually watched them chronological because of it!
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
Fashion-wise, Padme always. However, my favorite character is Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels. She is who I relate to the most and feel the deepest connection to. A woman in the galaxy just trying to do what is right.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
Purchased, my Godspeed Rebels jacket from Solanah. But my favorite me-made item is my Clone Wars dress that I designed and made for May the 4th last year!
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
Oh, this is hard. Her Universe is one of my favorite major labels. I own so many pieces from their collections over the years. I also love Elhoffer Design and Jordandené.
Angie Coronado
@suzymissq
What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I was introduced to Star Wars by my older brother when I was a kid. The first scene I ever saw was one of the final scenes of Return of the Jedi, when Luke is burning Vader’s body, so I guess you could say I got spoiled, haha!
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
Favorite fashion icon is for sure Padmé. That’s really the only right answer. My favorite characters are definitely Obi Wan, Han, Leia, Poe and Rey.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
One of my most prized Star Wars fashion items is definitely my Solanah original jacket. We worked together to find the perfect design for a Poe Dameron jacket and I love it.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
Super Yaki makes one of my favorite Star Wars tees and they’ve been putting out so many cool geeky tees recently.
Also I mentioned Solanah original jackets earlier. She’s been pumping out jacket after amazing jacket with so many unique designs. She really makes the design unique to the wearer.
Catherine Fanchiang
@catherine
What was your introduction to Star Wars?
My introduction to Star Wars would have to be the Star Wars-themed Muppet Babies episodes. I think I always knew about Star Wars as a child from random images I’d see of C3PO and R2-D2, Jabba the Hutt and, of course, Darth Vader, but I don’t think I ever really knew what they were or where they were from. I remember watching Muppet Babies a lot as a child and the Star Wars episodes were fascinating to me. I can still see Kermit Luke and Miss Piggy Leia so vividly in my mind.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
My favorite Star Wars fashion Icon isn’t necessarily a specific person. It’s basically the entire Dark Side. I just feel like the Dark Side has all the great looks that are flattering and never go out of style. But as I’ve gotten older, I do have say that Padme and all Naboo Queens really have some amazing looks.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
My favorite Star Wars fashion item that I own has to be my leather jacket done by Solanah. I just have so many things to say about Solanah and I don’t even know how to express them. Solanah is just so extremely talented and really puts in a lot of thought into her designs. She might not know the references you give her but you wouldn’t even be able to tell once she’s done with something.
She really cares about what you want and is open to all ideas you might have. I trusted her 1000% throughout the whole process and I got an amazing one-of-a-kind piece. Like, my jacket glows in the dark! How cool is that?
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I don’t really have a favorite geek fashion brand. I kind of just randomly search for my geek clothing based off of characters I like and go from there. But, one brand that I’ve always loved just for its simplicity and comfort is Jordandene. I love that they’re more subtle in their geekiness so you can wear it anywhere.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
Star Wars has always had a presence of some sort in my life, as it is in most, but I wasn’t drawn to it given the toxic fandom that was around it. I got the “not for you” message loud and clear. The Force Awakens is when it finally clicked for me, and I’ve dived into the fandom since then, and I love all of it so much.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
My favorite character is Ahsoka Tano, her character development has struck me the most. I really appreciate and relate to a lot of her personality traits, especially her loyalty and grit. But most of all, that she has come to represent thinking for yourself and really being your own person.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
The one I wear the most is my Japor snippet, but the most special piece is my fringe leather jacket painted by Solanah, another one of the coven members. It’s dark vs. light themed, and has a glitter rebel symbol on it. It’s the best.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I don’t particularly have a favorite brand. I pick up pieces here and there, but the best outfits are from a mix of that, thrifting, and supporting small shops/artists who make one-of-a-kind pieces.
Alice Fanchiang
@akangaru
What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I honestly didn’t sit down and watch a Star Wars through until high school, but I knew about it since I was a kid. I remember seeing parts of Star Wars movies on TV and parody forms of it in cartoons. Star Tours was also an early experience of the galaxy far, far away.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
I have to say Padme for fashion. Every single one of her outfits is different and beautiful. My favorite character is Obi-Wan Kenobi though, and I do appreciate the earth-toned Jedi aesthetic and boots. I’m about the boots.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
My favorites are all from small shops/creators. I have to mention the Jedi Fallen Order jacket I commissioned my friend Solanah to custom paint for me. Her work is so detailed and beautiful. Before that, it was two necklaces made by and gifted to me by my friend, @sparklingrampage on Instagram. One is a simple Rebel Starbird pendant; the other is a Lothcat.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I don’t know if I have a favorite Star Wars specific brand, but my go-tos have been Jordandene, BlackMilk, and Elhoffer Design. More recently though, I’ve been looking at small shops that aren’t geek specific, but they have clothing styles that are great for styling in geeky outfits — like Church of Sanctus and Nuit Clothing Atelier.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I was introduced to Star Wars by my father. He had been a fan for a long time and couldn’t wait to show me and my three brothers the original trilogy during family movie nights.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
When I was growing up, my favorite Star Wars character was actually Oola from Return of the Jedi. Although she was only in a small portion of the movie, her brief arc completely transfixed me.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
My custom-painted leather jacket by Solanah is my absolute favorite piece I own. She was able to take my love of so many elements of Naboo, including both Queens Amidala and Soruna, the N-1 Starfighters, and the architecture of Theed, and design a gorgeous work of wearable art!
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
Some of my favorite geek fashion brands that have done fantastic Star Wars lines are RockLove Jewelry and Han Cholo.
Epi Erichsen

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
I inherited love for Star Wars from my mother. I remember as a young girl, sitting down with my very excited mother to watch the prequels. I still remember to this day when she saw Anakin building up C-3PO, she jumped off the couch and yelled, “That’s C-3PO! He’s my favorite!“ Ever since then, she’s always indulged my Star Wars whims. She even made me a Queen Amidala costume from scratch for Halloween once. And she’s no seamstress, but it looked great.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
This is such a hard question. It kind of feels like you’re asking me if I would rather dress like a Hobbit or an elf for the rest of my life. I think, more than characters, the fashion of this Galaxy far, far away is what inspires me. Whenever I put together a Star Wars look, I just try to tell the story of the character through my clothes, and it really depends what character I’m trying to portray.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
I don’t really own many Star Wars fashion items. I did just purchase a beautiful hooded scarf from Ren. They made it with such love and such quality, it’s amazing! I’ll be wearing it for all sorts of looks, you can count on that.
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
I don’t really buy from many “geek brands.“ I’ve recently been trying to lower my environmental footprint, and I’m trying my hand at plus size thrifting or ordering handmade custom items I know will fit me for a long time and just right. I can’t imagine Queen Amidala going to a mainstream mall, so should I?
Nina Penalosa
@lefancygeek
What was your introduction to Star Wars?
My proper introduction to Star Wars was when my aunt took my sister and I to watch the original trilogy’s theatrical re-release in ‘97. Before that, I vividly remember — around the age of 4 or 5 — walking into the living room at the part in The Empire Strikes Back where Darth Vader dismembers Luke’s hand. I was traumatized for quite some time but, ironically, Empire ended up becoming my favorite among the Star Wars films!
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
Padme Amidala and Lando Calrissian, without a doubt! I’m enamored with both of their styles. I mean, how can you not?! But I can’t help but gravitate towards the Dark Side when it comes to my own sartorial choices. From the clean lines, tailored coats, mock necks, and overall color scheme, the Empire and the First Order is a smorgasbord of style inspo.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
I have an incredible Admiral Ackbar statement necklace that I purchased from Jennifer Landa a few years ago. She upcycled an old Micro Machines toy and it’s by far the most extravagant piece of Star Wars jewelry I own!
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
Her Universe really helped pave the way for geek fashion — a lot of my Star Wars clothes came from them at first, but I really love smaller brands like Jordandené for their subtly geeky hand-lettered tees, Utinni Bikini for their fun skater dresses and enamel pins, Po-Zu for their comfy-stylish-eco friendly Star Wars shoes, RockLove for their beautifully detailed jewelry, and Lantern Pins and BB-CRE8 for enamel pins. I love finding geeky t-shirts on RedBubble, TeePublic, and TeeTurtle as well.

What was your introduction to Star Wars?
To be honest, I don’t remember a time when Star Wars wasn’t in my life. Growing up, I watched the Original Trilogy with my family. Then, as I got older, I went opening night or weekend to see the prequels come out. My sister always loved Star Wars too, so marathoning all six movies was something we would do regularly!
Who’s your favorite Star Wars fashion icon/character?
Even though it could be seen as the obvious answer, I HAVE to say Padmé. All her looks are so incredible with all the textures and details. Her hair and makeup are phenomenal as well and super inspiring to me as a hairstylist. In one of the Star Wars books, they even explain how her looks aren’t frivolous, they have cultural symbolism and even feature things to keep her safer. I do have to say that my favorite character overall is R2-D2! I always love the droids but I especially love R2 for his sass.
What’s your favorite Star Wars fashion item that you own?
Last Christmas, I got one of the CoachxStar Wars purses and it is my favorite for sure, I use it every day! I had been on the hunt for a certain size of purse for my new everyday bag and the fact I got it 70% off AND it shows off my love for Star Wars, it’s an all-around win. Plus, it’s sparkly and the strap is super extra!
What’s your fave geek (or Star Wars) fashion brand?
This one is hard to answer because I love sewing and making my own clothing as much as I can. I do love Loungefly and Danielle Nicole handbags, I love novelty purses so much. A lot of the time though, because I am always looking for sewing inspiration, I love looking at designers like @adria.renee, who makes some of the greatest couture gowns. Her Star Wars collecting is SO GOOD! Such amazing inspiration for how to add special fandom details to my every day clothing!
